How to Reach?

By Road: There are two National Highways that cross through Dimapur. NH 39 connects Kohima, Imphal and Dimapur to the rest of the country, NH 36 connects Assam (Nagaon) with Dimapur. Regular state transport buses play on a daily basis on these National Highways and tourists can avail them to reach Kohima.

By Train: There are direct trains from Guwahati, Kolkata, New Delhi and the other metropolitan cities to Dimapur.

By Air: Tourists can avail daily flights to Guwahati, Kolkata and Delhi from Dimapur Airport.

By Road: Kohima is connected to all major places in the North East including Guwahati, Imphal, Shillong and Dimapur. NH 39 is the main route to this place that connects it with Dimapur. NH 37 links Kohima to Guwahati.

By Train: Dimapur is the nearest railhead and is about 75 kilometers from Kohima. Daily trains for Guwahati, Kolkata, New Delhi and other major cities in the country are available from here.

By Air: Dimapur Airport is the only airport in Nagaland and is located about 68 kilometers from Kohima. There are daily flights available for Kolkata and Guwahati from where tourists can board flights to other parts of the country.

Reckoned to be the most beautiful and a lively district in Nagaland, Mokokchung is the home of the Ao tribe. Known for its hospitality, rich traditions and festivals, Mokokchung is gradually becoming a hotspot for tourism in Nagaland. It is often said that one of its destinations named Longkhum is a paradise for nature enthusiasts.

Its hillocks are adorned with Rhododendron and its pristine environment is worth falling in love with. Longkhum is also known for its ethnic handloom and handicraft and a sect called Limapur that practice animist religion. Ungma is yet another destination of interest in Mokokchung district that is believed to be the first place founded by Ao tribe when they entered Nagaland from Chungliyimti.

By Road: Mokokchung is well connected by road. National Highway 61 runs from Kohima to Amguri via Wokha, Mokokchung, Changtongya and Tuli. Nagaland State Transport buses run regularly from Mokokchung to Kohima, which is at a distance of 162 kilometres. Shared taxis are also available on this route.

By Train: The nearest railway station to Mokokchung is Mariani (85kms) in Assam. Many trains operate from Mariani to Dibrugarh. One can avail buses and taxis from the Mariani railway station to Mokokchung.

By Air: The nearest airports to Mokokchung are in Dimapur (located at a distance of 212 kilometers) and Jorhat (located at a distance of 105 kilometres). There are daily flights from Guwahati or Kolkata.

The land of Konyak Nagas, Mon is an interesting land to visit in Nagaland. Famed for warriors with tattoos on face, head hunting prowess and blackened teeth people, Mon is a fascinating place to be in Nagaland. The Konyaks call themselves the descendants of Noah and practice agriculture; it is believed that have the finest harvest in the state.

By Road: Mon can be reached via Sonari by bus. Sonari is at a distance of about 65kms from Mon. Buses also ply from Simulguri but there are no direct services from Simulguri to Mon. One has to first reach Naginimora and then board another bus from here to Mon.

By Train: Lakwa railway station enroute to Sivasagar in Assam is one of the nearest railways stations to Mon. The other important rail head is Guwahati fromwhere one has to take the road for the remaining journey. One can also reach Dimapur by train and then continue by road to reach Mon.

By Air: The nearest airports to Mon are Jorhat (157 kilometers), Dimapur (296 kilometers) and Guwahati (479 kilometers). From all three places one can get conveyance in the form of state transport buses and tourist taxis.

Wokha is nature’s spectacular gift to Nagaland. Dotted with colourful orchards, carpeted with multi-hued flowers and fringed by hills and river, Wokha is a nature lovers’ paradise. About 4 hours drive from Kohima, this district is the perfect place to bask and see the glory of nature. A tourist village above Riphyim is a major attraction in Wokha district, this place is known to offer splendid views of a dam on Donyan River.

By Train: The nearest railway station for Wokha is Dimapur Railway Station. It is located at a distance of 130 kms and connected by trains to New Delhi, Guwahati, Kolkata and other important places in the country.

By Air: Wokha has no airport; the nearest airport is at Dimapur, which is situated at a distance of 162kms. One can avail daily flights from Kolkata and Guwahati to this airport.

Blessed with absolutely mesmerizing beauty, Dzukou Valley (2438m) is situated at a distance of about 30kms from the state capital, Kohima. Gorgeous Dzukou valley is a trekker’s delight and is reckoned to be the best trekking circuit in the country. Dzukou Valley to Nagaland is what Valley of Flowers is to Uttarakhand.

An unexplored and pristine land replete with a sizeable number of multi-hued flowers, this valley is certainly a must visit place in Nagaland. Offering breathtaking vistas, Dzukou is dotted with many ravines and streams.

Tuophema Village

A tourist village, situated about 41kms away from Kohima, Tuophema is built around ethnic model of tourism. The village offers traditionally styled thatched huts, traditional artefacts, jewelleries, clothing and souvenir museum and authentic Naga delicacies.

Khonoma Green Village

Khonoma Green Village is the result of responsible Naga tribes. Situated at a distance of about 20kms from Kohima, Khonoma Green Village is one of its kinds in India. The village is the home of the Angami tribe who have given up hunting and only practice agriculture (jhum or shift agriculture) to make a living.

The houses in Khonoma are made using natural means and it is a way of Angami to show concern for the conservation of natural resources. In this green village, baskets are woven and handloom work is carried on along with agriculture.

Eastern Mirror Desk Dimapur, Aug. 3 (EMN): Nature and culture lovers may find everything in Nagaland fascinating as it is blessed with both in aplenty. A hill station with good green cover, the state is rich in biodiversity with many flora and fauna, and the people take pride in its rich cultural heritage .

With an area of 16,579 sq.km and population of 1,980,602 (as per 2011 Census of India), the state is home to 17 major tribes and sub-tribes with distinct customs, language and attires. Though the Hornbill Festival, an annual event celebrated from December 1 to the 10 th , has become the biggest crowd puller and a tourist attraction over the years, each of the communities in the state have their own traditional festivals, thus the moniker “Land of festivals”.

While it is difficult to list tourist destinations, as the topography is similar across the state, some places have become hotspots for both local visitors and those from outside the state. But for the adventurous, it won’t be anything like spending time with the villagers and getting close to relatively undisturbed nature in the rural areas. Nagaland offers both – for the adventurous and non adventurous.

Here are top 10 tourist places / destinations (in no particular order) to visit in Nagaland:

Dimapur: The town may be more of a transit point and a commercial hub for Nagaland state than a tourist destination but it has some cool places like the ‘Kachari Ruins’, which dates back to the 13th century. Other places one can visit include Diezephe Craft Village, Green Park, Rangapahar Reserve Forest, Nagaland Zoological Park, North East Zone Cultural Centre, Handloom and Handicrafts Emporium, and Agri Expo. It is the only place in the state with air and rail connectivity.

2. Kohima: Being the capital of the state, Kohima houses the Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly), Secretariat and several other major government facilities. It has a beautiful landscape with a mix of modern and village look. Besides popular spots like World War II Cemetery and The Cathedral of Kohima, there are several tourist hotspots like Kisama Heritage Village, Khonoma Green Village, Japfu Peak, Tuophema Tourist Village etc. in the district.

3. Dzukou Valley: This picturesque valley is located at an altitude of 2,438.4 metre in Nagaland-Manipur border and about 30 km south of Kohima. A trekker’s delight, the valley is home to endemic lily and several other flora and fauna. It attracts most visitors during the flowering season, from the month of June to September.

4. Doyang: Situated in Wokha district, Doyang is a major tourist attraction with a beautiful landscape. It is home to state’s well-known hydro electricity project and the Amur falcon adorns its skies between October and November every year in thousands. It’s an ideal place for people who love camping, boating and angling.

5. Khezhakeno village: It is a historical village in Phek district known for being the first settlement site of the foremost Naga ancestral forefather ‘Koza’. A flat stone called Tso Tawo (spirit stone), believed by the forefathers to generate double-fold if a basket of paddy is parched in the sun on the stone slab, also located in the village.

6. Mt. Saramati: With a height of 3,826 m, Mt. Saramati, located near Thanamir village in Kiphire district, is the highest peak in Nagaland. It is a prominent peak in Southeast Asia with a variety of flora and fauna.

7. International Trade Centre (ITC): The Meluri sub-division in Phek district is home to Shilloi lake (Lütsam village), which is associated with many legends. The sub-division also has international trade centres at Phokhungri and Avankhung, where many Nagas in Myanmar can be seen shopping.

Mokokchung: Home of the Ao Naga, the district has popular tourist spots like Mopungchuket, which was declared ‘rural tourism village’ by the government of Nagaland in 2007, for its historical, mythological and cultural assets; and Longkhum village, believed to be the resting place of a dead person’s spirit before their onward journey to paradise.

9. Mon: The district has several villages that have Second World War remains and rock inscriptions. Shangnyu is a prominent village where the Angh’s house believed to be more than 500 years old is located. Longwa is another interesting village, where the Angh’s house is located lies half in India half in Myanmar but the administration falls under the village chief. Besides beautiful landscape, visitors can check Shangphan Wildlife Sanctuary, Veda Peak and Chalsoise village where human skulls belonging to the head-hunting days are displayed in a place called Waloo.

10. Noklak: Formally inaugurated as a new district in January 2021, Noklak is blessed with mesmerizing landscape and rich cultural heritage. The Indo-Myanmar border pillar 146 is located in the International Trade Centre (ITC) Dan, the last village of the district. Other places of interest include Pangsha, a historic village that houses Village Guards Museum; Chipur village, which is known for its complex cave system and daunting cliff that adventurers can explore; and scenic landscape of Choklangan village which is located between the mountain of khulia king, kenking, and enshao king.

This small village has an exciting background and picturesque surroundings. It is believed that many Naga tribes have originated from Khezhakeno and migration led them to the other parts of the region.

11. Dzuleke

Dzuleke , just about 10km from Khonoma which is the first ‘green village’ of India and about 40km from Kohima is a treat to the eyes.

The village gets its name from the river Dzuleke that, during its course, goes underground once it reaches Dzuleke. ‘Dzu’ means water and ‘leke’ means underground in the local language.

It has the sparsest population of about 200 households, mostly inhabited by the Angamis – one of the major tribes of Nagaland. Dzuleke is a delight to visit because of its serene beauty. But it is one of the most underrated places to visit in Nagaland.

Now, having gotten its name from river Dzuleke, there’s not just gorgeous flora and fauna but also incredible wildlife, especially ever since this hunting village banned hunting to protect wildlife.

Recognized as one of the cleanest villages in Nagaland, Mopungchuket is also famous for the legendary love story of Jina and Etiben, regarded as the ‘Romeo and Juliet’ of the Ao Nagas. Mopungchuket village has been in the news for its effort in beating plastic pollution and declaring it as a plastic-free village.

Known for its clean living, picturesque landscape, parks, memorabilia, and artifacts exhibit, and the warmth of the villagers, Mopungchuket receives thousands of visitors annually.

Kiphire is also the name of a newly-formed district that was carved out of the Tuensang district in 2004.

18. Chumukedima

Located 14 km from Dimapur city, Chumukedima is a village that lies on the foothills of the Naga Hills. Situated in the foothills of Naga Hills, Chumukedima served as the first district headquarters of the then Naga Hills district of Assam during the 19th century of British rule.

Several waterfalls adorn the beautiful hills of the Chumukedima village, an ancient village near Dimapur which is now being promoted as a must-visit tourist attraction.

Chumukedima is a tourist village on the top of a hill project giving a bird’s eye view of the whole district of Dimapur and even of Karbi-Anglong District of Assam.

Located around 43 km from Dimapur, Liphanyan Governor’s Camp rests at the foothills of the mountainous Wokha district in Nagaland.

The ride from Kohima to Botsa, and further up the hill to Tuophema Village, is only one and a half hours long, but it feels like a world apart from the uphill ascent from Dimapur to Kohima.

Tuophema Tourist Village is located 41 km from Kohima has been modeled around the ethnic tourism model where you will be offered modern and hygienic accommodation in traditional huts in an ethnic setting and can experience the local culture and cuisine.

Situated on a gentle hillock with a panoramic view of the surrounding valleys, Tuophema offers a chance to stay in quaint little huts, enjoy pleasant evenings around bonfires with cultural dances just adding to the rustic feel of the entire place.

21. Chuchuyimlang

Chuchuyimlang is a village that is divided into four sectors or “mopu”, namely Longzung mopu, Teyong mopu, Impang mopu, and Imlang Mopu.

This village is the epitome of natural beauty and also renowned for the glorious celebrations of various tribal festivals. The famous Moastu Festival lasts for 3 full days and commences on 1st May. The roads to Chuchuyimlang are well connected and take you through some breathtaking views.

22. Chenloisho Village

Located near the international border of Indian and Myanmar, Chenloisho Village is one of the biggest villages in the Chen area whose primary tourist attraction of this village is a museum.

This museum houses different types of ornaments that are found across the region. There are all types of pieces of jewelry worn by the tribal people are displayed here and is quite interesting. There is also a place called Waloo where human skulls dating back to the headhunting days are displayed.

23. Kohima War Cemetery

Kohima War Cemetery is a memorial dedicated to soldiers of the 2nd British Division of the Allied Forces who died in the Second World War at Kohima, the capital of Nagaland, India, in April 1944.

The soldiers died on the battleground of Garrison Hill in the tennis court area of the Deputy Commissioner’s residence. This spot is a must-visit as it tells people more about our ancient history. To prevent the Burma attack, the Japanese army attacked the British army who was then stationed in North East India in March 1944. The cemetery is well kept with lush green, mowed lawns, and well-groomed flowers.

The epitaph on the cemetery wall reads? When you go home, tell them of us and say That for their tomorrow, we gave our today…..?

On the 18 plots of the cemetery, there are 1421 slabs erected in memory of soldiers who were killed in the battle of Kohima. The soldiers were from UK, Japan, East and West Africa, and Burma.

A visit to the cemetery leaves you absolutely fascinated by the courageous tales of the martyrs who rest here.

Dimapur Market is good if you are looking for Clothes as its a good destination for a good Bargain.When it comes to sight seeing you would need to travel a Lot as from dimapur Taxi/bus station you will get a lot of yellow cabs sharing basis & hire to mokokchung & kohima. In two days time I would suggest you go to Kohima the Capital of Nagaland, whether is awesome & there you can visit a lot of places like war cemetery,handicrafts market,Old secretariat house etc.I would suggest if you have a local along with you it would be great if they can take you the max places in two days time. The weather places are very beautiful to which you need to time to explore,a visit to Kohima would be more fruitful as you can have a hint of local culture food & tribes.

We are ameature photographers who love to capture landscape, people and life. We want to spend maximum 5 nights in that area. We will go from Kolkata. 10 day offbeat Nagaland Itinerary

Nagaland, a state in India, lies in the north-eastern region of the country’s hills and mountains. It is one of India’s smaller countries. Nagaland is bound to the northeast by the Indian states of Arunachal Pradesh , to the south by Manipur , to the west and northwest by Assam and to the east by Myanmar (Burma). The capital of the state is Kohima located in southern Nagaland. If you love out of the box travel, let us look at an offbeat Nagaland itinerary.

In untamed Nagaland, there are 16 major tribes which share a border with Myanmar. The people are relatively new to tourism, warm, and open to attracting visitors. When you visit villages in Nagaland you’ll never feel alone. But which towns to visit? Depending on how much time you have and how much of Nagaland you want to see, there are different choices. The five popular Nagaland tourist districts listed here will give you some insights about an offbeat experience in Nagaland.

Just don’t expect people everywhere to be dressed in tribal clothes, because modern life in Nagaland is already catching on! Most towns have concrete buildings — the traditional Nagaland these days is only in the villages.

Day 1: Arrive Dibrugarh (Assam)

Arrive at Dibrugarh Airport, from where you will be taken to your hotel. For sightseeing, you can visit the Tea Garden near Dibrugarh in the afternoon. You can also spend time shopping in the evening at Dibrugarh market. Savour a nice meal at the hotel once you are back from your visit.

Day 2: Dibrugarh to Mon

After breakfast, proceed to Mon, and drive through the beautiful countryside of Assam which will take around 6 hours. On the way, stop for an early lunch at Sonari Town. Wander around the small town and continue to drive to Mon. Upon reaching Mon check in to the hotel. Spend the afternoon exploring Mon. Have a hearty meal and spend the night on Mon.

Day 3: Explore Mon

Located at an altitude of 897.64 meters above sea level is the land of Konyak Nagas. They were one of the greatest warriors among Nagas and practised headhunting during the historic times. To kickstart your trip for the day, and get an insight into the history, drive to Longwa village which is on the border of India and Burma. Wander around the village and visit Morung where you can visit a Naga boy’s dormitory that served as an acculturation and learning place during the headhunting times. This will truly a surreal part of your offbeat itinerary to Nagaland.

Proceed to a gun-making place where the Konyak Nagas traditionally manufactured guns and also pay a visit to the craftsmen’s house to see the beautiful wood carvings and appreciate the artistic skills of the Nagas. You can return to Mon and have lunch. The next leg of your journey will be to Hang Phoi village to meet the Headhunters with tattooed faces. You will get a more realistic insight into the Naga culture. After this offbeat experience in Nagaland, you can stay the night at Mon.

Day 4: Mon to Tuensang

After breakfast, drive to the district of Tuensang which is about 6 hours away, bordering Myanmar. It is the state ‘s easternmost district, and the largest. The District is home to tribal groups like Chang, Sangtam, Khiamniungan, Yimchunger, Phom Naga and others. Each tribe has a different culture, different traditions and different festivals and witnessing them will be a winner in your offbeat Nagaland itinerary.

Day 5: Explore Tuensang

Spend the day exploring Tuesang ‘s various villages. You may find several Mithun in this area (a semi-domesticated animal) that is a cross between water buffalo and a cow. Explore villages such as Noklak which is inhabited by the Khiamniungan tribe. The village is popular for its cane work, handicrafts and artefacts.

Another village, Longtrok, finds the ancient ruins of the civilisations of Tsongliyangti and Chungliyangti, which is marked by six legendary stones. Admire the history of this place before heading back to your hotel and staying the night.

Day 6: Tuensang to Touphema

Proceed to Touphema Tourist Village which is a long drive (8-9 hrs drive) away. On the way, stop to see the culture of the Lotha Tribe at Longsa village in Wokha district. Lothas are known for their vibrant dances and folk songs. Unlike other Nagas, in the olden days, the Lothas practised headhunting. You can then check into your hotel at Touphema.

Day 7: Explore Touphema

Visit the village of Touphema in the morning. Touphema offers exquisite traditional Naga life in nature’s lap. This village is set up to preserve and showcase the traditional Naga lifestyle. There is another village called Khonoma which is populated by the Angami tribe. After you finish exploring these villages, you can head back to your hotel for a checkout. The next leg of your journey would be to Khonoma for another offbeat experience in your Nagaland itinerary.

Day 8: Khonoma to Kohima

Trek to Dzukou Valley in the morning and witness Flowers Valley. The valley stands above sea level at an altitude of 2500 metres. The entire valley is full of flowers during the months of March and April. After witnessing the breathtaking beauty, trek back to Khonoma in the afternoon, catch a quick refreshment and drive to Kohima.

Day 9: Kohima, Dimapur to Kolkata

Once the capital of the ancient Kachari tribe, Dimapur has some mysterious ruins of the Kachari civilization from the 13th century. These ruins which are scattered around Rajbari Park, are perhaps the most interesting attraction in Dimapur.

There is also a market near the ruins on Wednesday that offers an informative insight into the life of Nagas. There are common items on sale, such as spices, wicker goods and vegetables. However, you can avoid the meat section as they sell bizarre types of meat like dog meat which you might not be very comfortable with. From Dimapur, it’s a two to three-hour drive to Kohima or even a 30-minute helicopter ride can be taken. You can spend the night at leisure in Kohima.

Florida is boring?!

The Sunshine State is home to Disney World and Universal Studios and has hundreds of miles of beaches. We have the oldest city in the U.S. in our backyard and some of the richest people in the world .

To keep life interesting, we even have sharks and alligators .

Apparently, that's not enough.

According to a study by Solitaired , Florida is the fifth most boring state in the United States , based on an analysis of 66.7 million Google reviews of 3,290 popular tourist attractions around the world. The analysis was made to determine what locations were the least interesting.

Here's what the study discovered.

Takeaways from study on Top 100 most boring tourist sites around the world

According to Solitaired , key takeaways include:

Branson Scenic Railway in Branson, Missouri, is the most boring attraction in the world.
Museums comprise 33% of the Top 100 most boring attractions.
Four LEGOLAND Discovery Centers are in the Top 25 most boring attractions worldwide.
Georgia is the most boring state, with many attractions and extensive reviews indicating boredom.
The U.S., Canada and Australia hold the top three spots for countries with the most boring tourist attractions. And yes, U.S. was No. 1.

Here are the Florida locations ranked among the most boring tourist attractions around the world. The "boredom score" is on a scale from zero to five.

"We ranked states based on how often attractions were called boring in reviews compared to the total number of attractions with any reviews labeling them boring in that state," Solitaired said. "By this metric, Georgia, Massachusetts, and Tennessee are the nation's top three boring states."

The "boredom score" is on a scale from zero to five.

Georgia: 21 boring attractions. Boredom score: 5.0
Massachusetts: 4 boring attractions. Boredom score: 4.1
Tennessee: 49 boring attractions. Boredom score: 4.1
Missouri: 33 boring attractions. Boredom score: 3.9

How did Florida rank as 5th most boring state in US?

"With its 104 boring attractions, Florida might seem like the boredom capital at first glance ," Solitaired said.

"Yet, it only ranks as the fifth most boring state because each attraction garners very few yawns from visitors. Despite many attractions being labeled boring by reviewers, this sentiment is such a minority that Florida only pans out as the fifth most boring state."

Solitaired, an online gaming platform that creates classic games — like Solitaire — with a focus on improving mental acuity, memory and processing speed.

In March 2024, Solitaired "analyzed 66.7 million Google reviews of 3,290 popular tourist attractions worldwide , spanning 384 cities across 71 countries.

"We focused our analysis on keyword mentions indicative of a bored tourist. Those keywords were "boring," "bored," "bore," "boredom," "tiresome," "dull," "drab," "lackluster," "lifeless," "mediocre," and "tedious.

"We ranked the attractions by the frequency with which tourists mentioned boredom-related keywords, comparing the mentions to the total reviews for each spot."

Attractions with fewer than 2,000 total reviews were removed.
