A Photographer’s Guide to Paris

Where to take beautiful pictures in paris.

Paris evokes a feeling of wonder. Avenues exude French character; monuments portray elegance with gothic architecture, not to mention the Parisian rooftops, cafes and gardens.

Photographing Paris is definitely a journey through time and you’ll want to visit famous icons and unique locations to secure the best view possible of this incredible city.

What started out as my top five locations soon developed into more of a guide to the incredible sights and hidden gems you can photograph around the French capital. It’s definitely too hard to narrow this list down any further so be sure to give yourself a few days to explore all that this beautiful city has to offer.

Below you will find a list of the best photography locations in Paris alongside a collection of images I’ve personally taken at each one.

** Paris Photography Location Map: Scroll to the bottom of this guide for a Google Map with a suggested walking route + all Paris photography locations mapped out for your next visit to this gorgeous city. There’s also a handy little section with links to other photogenic regions in France!

eBook Announcement – If you want to skip the ads and download a Paris eBook for photographers straight to your device, I’ve just released my brand new ‘Paris Photography Location Guide’, it’s big, beautiful and filled with over 65+ photography locations, 75 pages, custom maps and self-guided walking tours to follow in my footsteps.

D’accord, allons-y (ok, let’s go!)

Paris photography locations:, #1 basilique du sacré-coeur – panoramic views + sunset.

Overlooking the entire city, the Basilique du Sacré-Coeur offers what is in my opinion, the best view in Paris. Few people realise you can access the top of the dome so at sunset you’ll be sharing with only a handful of visitors who dared to take on the 300 stair climb. The peak of the dome has a narrow walkway that gives you 360degree views, an incredible scene to witness as the sun sets over Paris. Be sure to check closing times before you start the climb as they vary from month to month and sometimes even day to day. View the Basilique du Sacré-Coeur site with further visitor information here .

Paris Photo Tip –

In summer the sun doesn’t set until late in the evening, offering the chance to wander the streets and soak up the beautiful golden light. Plan a route to follow or simply wander back from Montmartre and get wonderfully lost along the way. Read more about tips for photographing in sunset and golden hour her e.

The path around the dome with lots of photo windows to see and capture the city from.

#2 Saint-Michel + The Latin Quarter – Street Scenes + Cafes

For quaint cobbled streets lined with cafes and restaurants that ooze charm, this is the place to wander. You’ll find this area just over the river to the south of Notre Dame. Roam along Rue de la Bûcherie and Rue Saint- Séverin for photographs of traditional Crêperies and street scenes.

Wander from the banks of the Seine towards Tour Montparnasse to pass by a lot of the highlights of Saint-Germain-des-Pres and Left Bank. Read more about my adventures photographing the Left Bank of Paris here .

Left Bank Paris Photographs from the Seine to Tour Montparnasse

#3 Montmartre – Artisans + French Character

One of the best places to take pictures in Paris and home to resident creatives and street artists, Montemartre is the epitome of French character. At first glance it might seem like a tourist frenzy but if you venture away from the Place du Tertre (artist square) you’ll find a village like atmosphere with a unique ambience unlike anywhere else in Paris. Have a peek at the cute pink restaurant ‘La Maison Rose’ and the draping vines along Abreuvoir Street then head down to the windmill of Moulin de la Galette on the corner of Rue Lepic and Rue Girardon.

Visiting Montmartre in the early afternoon gives you plenty of time to wander the streets and then enjoy the changing atmosphere as evening approaches. Street photography opportunities are great around lunch time then again once the crowds start appearing for dinner.

#4 Notre Dame Cathedral – Low light interiors and panoramic city views

*Update – Due to the fire inside Notre Dame in April 2019, it’s not possible to currently access this beauty from the inside. You can however still see and photograph Notre Dame from various spots alongside the banks of the Seine River.

One of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture, Notre Dame is an essential photo stop in Paris, even if you can’t venture inside. Take advantage of glowing morning light along the Seine and head straight for Pont Saint-Michele where you’ll have a beautiful vantage point toward Notre Dame. The roof and spire at the back of Notre Dame were damaged the most in the fire, however the front towers are still as they were, albeit with a little more scaffolding.

I’ll also mention my description from prior to the fire as I loved visiting Notre Dame and hope that one day, if you haven’t already, you’ll be able to go inside too. The interior is dimly lit offering shadowed arches, intricate detailing and patterned flooring. If you arrive early enough in the day (before 10am) you’ll avoid lengthy queues to climb to the top of the cathedral…an absolute must for a fabulous view! Climbing the narrow staircase to the top is an experience in itself then once you arrive to the open air walkway circling the tower you’ll be greeted with views along the Seine River all the way to the Eiffel Tower. My favourite angle was looking down upon the Parisian rooftops where the Gargoyles sit, such a unique way to view the city! Be warned however it’s very popular and can feel a little rushed due to groups being ushered through to avoid congestion.

Notre Dame 2022 - Image by Google

Updated image by Google – A current view of the construction at Notre Dame. It’s best to photograph from Pont Saint-Michel for the time being to capture the front facades, compose your image to exclude the cranes/scaffolding and instead photograph Notre Dame with the Seine in the foreground. *Unless you like to document the construction, in which case you’ll find many angles to do this from!

#5 Eiffel Tower – Iconic Scenes + Photo Locations

I’m pretty sure that if you’re going to Paris you want at least one shot of the magical Eiffel Tower, right? Well the great news is you’ll see this mighty icon popping up from different vantage points all over the city. The most popular spot is of course right underneath it or from the gardens of the Champ de Mars but if you’re looking for somewhere different here are a few options…

  • Printemps Department Store. Catch the elevator up to the rooftop café and enjoy views over the Parisian roof tops with the Eiffel Tower standing tall behind them.
  • Chaillot Hill and the Trocadéro. You definitely won’t be alone here but the view is hard to beat and you can use the Fontaine de Varsovie (Warsaw Fountain) as a great subject to compose your image against the Eiffel Tower.
  • The banks of the Seine. Stroll along the river banks to take some unique images of the Eiffel Tower framed with trees, as boats pass by or just a varied city scene from the norm.

Skip the Ticket Queues –   Secure your Eiffel Tower Tickets in advance here . If you’re planning to visit other attractions, purchase The Paris Pass prior to arriving, save up to 31% and map out all the museums and attractions you want to visit with the one ticket. Take a peek at the options here .

#6 The Louvre – History + Architecture

As a central landmark in Paris and one of the most inspirating Paris photography locations, the Louvre was originally built as a fortress in the 12 th century. Now the most visited museum in the world housing over 30,000 objects from history, you could spend all day here taking photos and that’s just the interior. Outside are the perfectly landscaped spaces, The Carrousel Garden and The Tuileries. When the weather warms up you’ll find people sharing picnics and soaking up the sun in the gardens creating a great atmosphere! The Cour Carrée is another great photo location within the Louvre complex. This square courtyard was completed by King Louis XIV as part of the ‘Old Louvre’ and is perfect for composing linear angles.

Travel Tip – Purchase ‘Priority Entrance’ for The Louvre and skip the queue which can take up a lot of your day! You can opt to have a professional tour guide, audio guide or wander with your camera and browse at leisure, this ticket just means you save time.

#7 Jardin du Luxembourg –  Fountains + Gardens

A green oasis amongst the 6 th arrondissement of Paris, the Jardin du Luxembourg is known for tree lined promenades and chestnut groves. The perfect place to set yourself up for the day to capture lifestyle images and have a picnic at the same time! You’ll also find little sailing boats available for hire to float around in the fountain in front of the Palais du Luxembourg. Fontaine Medicis is nestled in a little corner and is well worth a peek too.

#8 Avenue des Champs-Élysées –  Evening Slow Motion Shots

Perhaps the most famous street in the world, the Avenue des Champs-Élysées is bustling throughout the day with shoppers, tourists and locals visiting the stores and offices that reside here. The best time of day to photograph here would be in the evening once the stores have closed and the streets are a little emptier. You’ll find the beautiful Arc de Triomphe sitting pretty at the top of the street waiting to be photographed as the traffic lights glow below. In the middle of the road are pedestrian islands so you can stop and take slow motion shots without worrying about being hit by a car!

#9 The Paris Metro – Murals + Architecture

Underneath the streets of Paris you’ll find creative spaces and tunnels to photograph. Of course not every metro station is picturesque but some are little gems of creativity with murals, themed designs and art nouveau entrances. If you feel like training it around the city take a peek at Arts et Métiers, Saint-Michel, Varenne (Rodin Museum), Concorde (designed as a giant word puzzle), Abbesses and Cité stations.

#10 Marché aux fleurs Reine Elisabeth II

A flower markert on Ile de la Cite – A little oasis just near Notre Dame

Nestled in a quiet square one block away from Notre Dame is the tranquil Marché aux fleurs Reine Elisabeth II market of Paris, one of my favourite Paris photography locations. Here you’ll find what feels like a greenhouse of dreams with so many blooming florals in carefully arranged bunches, it’s hard to believe you’re right in the centre of the city. Little green market stalls link together to form a maze of all things gardening and decor, boy is it photogenic!

#11 Galeries Lafayette Haussmann

Other notable paris photography locations –.

Marché Mouffetard: A narrow street market described by Hemingway as ‘A Moveable Feast’. Colourful fresh food stalls and a vibrant atmosphere!

Place de la Concorde: A main thoroughfare for tourist buses and pedestrians, this is a great place to sit on the stone walls and watch the world go by. Located at the end of the The Tuileries Garden not far from the Louvre, it’s a giant public square decorated with fountains. Side note…you’ll also find THE best public toilet in Paris here at the entrance to the garden. I’m not even joking, you’ll thank me later!

Palace of Versailles: A 40minute train journey out of the city will take you to the Palace of Versailles, an extravagant royal chateau. Have a peek inside here .

Hotel de Ville: The town hall of Paris is home to the city’s administration offices however it’s exterior is far less boring. Looking more like a palace, the Hotel de Ville features a gorgeous Gothic roof and in winter it’s the backdrop to a giant ice skating rink…it looks beautiful lit up in the evening too!

Le Stade Roland Garros: Even if you’re not in town for the French Open in May, Roland Garros is a great day trip for tennis fans like me! You can get lucky and see a tournament or take a tour behind the scenes. Catch the Metro to Porte d’Auteuil and wander the lovely area and parks too!

St Etienne du Mont: An impressive Gothic church with unique details such as stone spiral staircases and giant stained glass window panels…light and airy.

Galeries Vivienne: A hidden little arcade off Rue Des Petits Champs filled with character.

Roland Garros…tennis fans get yourself here!

Where to Stay in Paris

When covering numerous Paris photography locations, there are of course thousands of hotels, apartments and boutique properties to choose between depending on which areas suit you best. For me, there’s one spot I love to stay when photographing Paris. Right near the Eiffel Tower. Not only because this iconic beauty is right outside the window, but because you’re close to the Seine and a short walk from some of the most beautiful areas in the city.

Mercure Paris Central Tour Eiffel – If you are looking for somewhere fabulous to stay in Paris that doesn’t break the budget BUT offers views of the Eiffel Tower from your room I’ve found just the place! The Mercure Paris Central Tour Eiffel is not only a funky and really comfortable hotel but it’s located one block from the Eiffel Tower! From your room you can watch as the tower sparkles before you drift off to sleep, only to wake and watch the sunrise glow behind the French icon. Because I only list places I’ve personally stayed, be sure to ask for room #1031, #1131 or #1211 for the best views of the Eiffel Tower! To check room rates visit – Mercure Paris Central Tour Eiffel

Take me with you: Maps to Paris Photography Locations

Map: diy paris photo walk.

Start your walking tour in Saint-Michel then walk to all of the major sites of Paris, ending at the Luxembourg Gardens. This walk takes over 4hours without photo stops or going into museums etc, so I highly recommend breaking it up into a few days! If you are short on time, jump on the metro to zip between locations easily.

Map: Paris Photography Locations

Now if you’re more into catching the metro or choosing which locations you want to see, here is a map to all of the photography locations listed below in this guide. You should be able to click open this map and add your own locations, or create a customised walking tour. By clicking the ‘add directions’ button on the map it will bring up a Point A + Point B to work out directions for driving or public transport.

Wow – I have seen a lot of photos of Paris, and these are among the most wanderlust inspiring. Thank you for the route, the tips, and most of all the beauty 🙂

October 27, 2015 at 7:42 pm

Oh my gosh! Your photographs are simply stunning! I’m so inspired.

August 15, 2016 at 5:17 pm

I will going to Paris next month and planning to shoot the Eiffel Tower from afar. The Basiliquedu ‘3oo stairs up’ like you mentioned seems like a very good vantage point.

However, I’m a photographer who kinds of afraid of heights 🙂 When you mentioned narrow walkaway, does it mean the stairs are narrow from the beginning to the top or only from the dome area to the top?

Please advise. Thank you in advance 🙂

thewanderinglens

August 15, 2016 at 5:25 pm

Great to hear from you! Exciting news you’re visiting Paris soon. The Basilica is probably (in my opinion) one of the more fear of height friendly vantage points. It feels super secure at the top and there’s actually a walkway around the dome that has a thick stone/marble? barrier the entire way that’s about chest height so you never feel like you’re about to fall over the edge and always have something strong to hold onto. The staircase up is narrow and enclosed so if you’re a bit claustrophobic this would be the only issue 🙂 From memory there is one section about half way up where the staircase is on the exterior of the basilica but again, it has the stone barrier to hold onto. Have fun!! Tag your photos with #thewanderinglens if you use Instagram so I can have a look 🙂

Is there any chance you can share this map via google? This is an excellant resource and would like to add some items to this.

I have used your map during my vists to my office and would like to build on it.

January 25, 2017 at 4:42 am

Hi Robert, I’m glad the map is of use for your time in Paris! The map should open up in Google when you click ‘view larger’? I’ve just added a second map that simply lists all of the locations noted in the guide, rather than a set walking path. The direct link to the Google map is https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ln1f9rlgO5l93XL-KnTlk7Qx1QM&usp=sharing hopefully you are able to open this up, add your own places and use the directions tab. Access is set to public so hopefully it works 🙂

April 24, 2017 at 12:52 pm

Great guide Lisa!

By far the most popular place to take photos of the Eiffel Tower is from Trocadero (on the lines 6 or 9). But beware that not all hours of the day or all spots here are good to take photos with the Eiffel Tower, because you will often get a lot of people in the background or even walking in front of your photos.

Also, if you take photos just on the lookout platform, you will probably get a shot where the person is dark and the Eiffel Tower in the background is super bright.

I found this to post to give you the best time and exact spots at Trocadero for pictures of the Eiffel Tower: http://www.ofleatherandlace.com/best-time-and-spots-to-take-photos-with-eiffel-tower-from-trocadero/

April 26, 2017 at 9:28 pm

Thanks for sharing Tina! Yes Trocadero is the most popular but like you’ve mentioned, it can get a bit overwhelming with the crowds and to be honest isn’t my favourite place. I must prefer the view from further afar where the Eiffel Tower looks all moody in the late afternoon haze. That said, any view of the Eiffel Tower is a good view and it’s absolutely worth testing them all 😉

I love how warm your photos are! they make me SO nostalgic for Paris one of my favourite cities in the world. I’ve been a few times in the summer/winter, but never in Spring so that’s next on my list. I wouldn’t be able to resist those incredible blooms. Amazing post!

Thanks so much Christina! Spring is such a gorgeous time to visit Paris, even better if you’ve been before because you can dedicate all your time to simply wandering and chasing blossoms!

June 23, 2017 at 5:17 am

Canal St Martin is in my opinion the most beautiful and photogenic part of Paris! There is a wonderful film that captures that beauty, it is called ‘Amelie’ (my daughter is named after her).

March 6, 2018 at 11:13 am

Oh what a wonderful tribute! I love the movie Amelie also, and it’s a beautiful name 🙂

March 6, 2018 at 10:31 am

I’m going to Paris soon and would like to download the “map: Paris Photo Walk” how do I do that? Photos are great! Thanks.

March 6, 2018 at 11:14 am

Hi Marshall, if you’re reading the article on your phone you should be able to open the map and it switches to Google maps so it’s accessible for you.

May 23, 2018 at 9:07 am

Excellent! Heading to London, Paris, Cologne and Zurich next months with my 4 kids. I’m mapping out walking trips. You had some points that weren’t on my map already. Thank you!

So, I’m second guessing carrying around thousands of dollars worth of camera gear but I know I’ll be upset if I didn’t. What gear did you take? What precautions did you take?

June 2, 2018 at 5:33 pm

That’s so great to hear! I hope you have a wonderful trip 🙂 it’s a beautiful time of year to visit Europe! I always have my gear with me and it’s just a matter of being wary and keeping it close, I’ve never had any issues with theft. If you’re feeling a bit funny about it, wear your backpack on the front so it can’t be unzipped from behind. Also sometimes when I travel alone I carry a camera handbag, it’s big enough to fit my camera + lens but doesn’t look like it’s got expensive gear inside!

March 12, 2019 at 9:19 pm

awesome suggestion. thanks for the sharing. useful information.

March 16, 2019 at 1:50 pm

Hi, Lisa. I´ve been checking your blog and really liked your pictures. I was checking the ones from the Sacre Coeur Dome and wanted to ask you how did you get to take them. I looked at the opening hours during the whole year, and I can see it is never open at sunrise. Do you have to ask for special permission or any type of authorization? Thanks in advance!

March 18, 2019 at 12:16 pm

Hi Martin, lovely to hear you’ve been enjoying my website! The images captured from the top of the Sacre Coeur were taken at sunset and at certain times of the year you’ll find the opening hours actually coincide with sunset. It’s best to head up to the top about an hour or more before sunset to capture the golden hour (which is what you see in my images), the stairwell closes roughly 30minutes before closing but always check this beforehand as times do change regularly!

Excellent.!!! Thanks for sharing

Ultimate Guide To Paris Best Photography Spots

paris-photography-locations-notre-dame-de-paris.jp

Paris is truly a gift, a dream-come-true city for everyone. As a professional photographer in Paris , I always find Paris is an excellent inspiration for photography. Although I have lived here for more than three years, I still find very new things about this city. From street photography, landscape photography to couple or wedding photography , I spend a lot of time scouting to look for beautiful photography locations in Paris. And here is my list of the best places for taking Paris photos . Let scroll down!

Update 06/22/2020 I have some updated photos of Le Marais in Music festival Paris 2020, and a new location, The Musée Albert-Kahn, the most beautiful Japanese garden in Paris.

01. Eiffel Tower

02. Louvre Museum

03. Palais Royal

04. Tuileries Garden

05. Montmartre

06. Along the Seine River

07. Pont Alexander III

08. Luxembourg Gardens

09. Champ Elysee

10. Notre Dame de Paris

11. Latin Quarter

12. Le Marais

13 . Paris Metro

01. Eiffel Tower – Symbol of the city of Love

It has not much to say about the symbol of Paris; the tower shows its beauty. This is a place you should have on your list if you want to make authentic Paris photos. For years of experience shooting couple photos at the Eiffel, I always see the tower has something different from the last. And the tower deserves to be the symbol of the city of Paris.  One of the great things is that you can find many beautiful Eiffel Tower photography angles. The following is one of my most favorite spots to take Eiffel Tower photos.

Place du Trocadéro, 75016 Paris.

Champ De Mars

Pont de Bir Hakeim

Paris Photo Pro Tip:

I saw the Eiffel Tower at night when the lights up had a very different beauty, gorgeous and full of romance. If you have time, try to arrange your schedule so that you can take pictures of the Eiffel Tower at night too. And especially, at the right time even, the tower will sparkle within 5 minutes. Pont de Bir Hakeim is one of my favorite places to watch the tower and take photos of Paris at night because there aren't too many people here.

And there are many other beautiful spots, I have combined separately into another post on the best places to take pictures of the Eiffel Tower .

paris-photography-locations-eiffel-tower.jpg

02. Louvre Museum - An architectural Landmark

For me, this is one of the best places to take photos of Paris sunrise and sunset. Why? The combination of typical European architecture with a bit of modern architecture of glass pyramids creates an atmosphere and a fantastic view. You should take some time to go around. There will be many beautiful angles for you to explore. I have practiced a lot of photography composing here. One of the places you should explore when coming to the Louvre is:

The Pyramids

Entrance Gate near rue Rivoli (best for silhouette photos)

Paris street lights near the Pyramids

Pavillon Turgot

In addition to taking Paris photos in the early morning or at sunset , you have to go to the Louvre in the evening. It's magical. And the important thing is, don't forget to bring a tripod. You will need it to take Paris photos at night.

paris-photo-louvre-museum-3.jpg

03. Palais Royal – Must Visted Instagrammable Square

What can I say about this former royal palace? This Paris photography location is like a hidden gem and contains many surprises. The entrance to the Palais Royal is not unobtrusive but is hidden in the Rue Saint-Honoré. First, you'll come to Domaine National du Palais-Royal with 'Les Deux Plateaux', the iconic artworks of a French artist Daniel Buren. You will then see a garden-side view with the columns of the former Galerie d'Orléans. This cute garden will come to life in a beautiful season. This is also the Place where many young painters come to practice painting.

The columns of the former Galerie d'Orléans is one of the great places to take portraits because of its well-balanced composition and dreamy creamy color. Be careful if you plan to have a professional photoshoot here because you need permission. Anything related to professional set up such as lighting, off-camera flash, or even using a reflector also requires approval.

paris-photography-locations-palais-royal-domain.jpg

04. Tuileries Garden - A Expansive & Whimsical Garden

This garden deserves to be one of the most photogenic gardens in Paris. Every time I come here, I find a new perspective on the garden. Interspersed amid the greenery of natural trees are the vibrant colors of the flowers. Besides, the intricate sculpture statues make the garden even more splendid and mysterious. My favorite route to photographing the Tuileries garden is to start from the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel, then the École du Louvre on the left-wing, then next to the Tuileries. If you have a family and want a Paris family photoshoot, then this garden will be an excellent choice for the kids.

Spring and autumn are the best seasons to have the best Paris photos here. One more thing, don't forget to walk to Place de la Concorde nearby.

paris-photography-Tuileries-garden.jpg

05. Montmartre -  Sacre Cœur – Most beautiful view of the city

Montmartre is always the most romantic Paris photography location in Paris. There are many dreaming corner and cobblestone streets. The green space of the city offers a fresh and airy atmosphere to the central area. Don't forget to go to these spots to have your amazing Paris photos. My favorite places when taking pictures here are:

The Most Scenic Street: Rue De L’abreuvoir

La Maison rose

Buste de Dalida

Parvis du Sacre Coeur

This is a big area on the hill, so you will have to prepare a bit to walk. If you want a 360-degree view of Paris, don't forget you can get on top of Sacré-Cœur.

paris-photography-montmartre-sacre-cœur.jpg

06. Along the Seine River - Pont de Art & Pont Neuf

Walking along the Seine is one of the ways to enjoy the fresh air and the beautiful views of Paris what is more enjoyable than a photo that has a balance between the sky, the river, the building according to Haussmann architecture, and the romantic bridge. If anyone asks me where I have all the most typical things about Paris, that's the landscape scenes from the bridges across the Seine. Two of the best bridges for Paris landscape photos are Pont Neuf and Pont des Arts. And the good news is it only takes you 5 minutes to walk between these two bridges.

The Pont Neuf Bridge itself, the oldest bridge with pedestrian paths, is also magnificent and is a fascinating subject for landscape photography. From Pont des Arts, you can have a beautiful view of Pont Neuf to take great Paris landscape photos. And the best time for these photos is at sunset.

paris-photography-pont-neuf-at-sun-rise.jpg

07. Pont Alexander III - The most beautiful bridge on the Seine river

Have you ever seen the movie Midnight in Paris? This bridge appeared romantically in the last scene of the movie. Dubbed as one of the most beautiful bridges in Paris, Alexander III is a combination of Russian architecture and a romantic romance of France. For me, it's a must for a Paris architecture photography.

Instead of standing on the bridge to take photos, I often go a bit away from the bridge so I can capture the whole scene. My favorite spot for taking pictures with the Alexander III Bridge is the Port des Champs-Élysées near the River Limousine .

Paris-photography-location-pont-alexander-III-eiffel-tower-at-night.

08. Luxembourg Gardens - Paris's most prized and beautiful formal garden

If you like the natural and discreet space, this 17th-century garden will be your choice. Inside there is also a fountain, Marie De Medicis Fountain, built on a romantic love story. This garden is not only a place where you can have candid and emotional couple photos, but also an excellent place for a Paris proposal. In the garden, there is also Luxembourg Palace, which will be a place to visit for photography of French Baroque architecture lovers

paris-photography-location-luxembourg-garden-.jpg

09. Champ Elysee - The world's most beautiful avenue in the world

The most famous and luxurious avenue in Paris and the world, Champ Elysee is not only a place for shopper's paradise but also a place for photography lovers. As one of the largest roads in Paris, this is an excellent place for long exposure photography in the evening. Arc de Triomphe is one of the famous landmarks of Paris that you should also include in your visit list.

You can go to the top of the Arc de Triomphe to see the whole city from above. This is one of the best places to photograph Paris from above, and you will not waste a penny on it.

10. Notre Dame de Paris - Tremendous ancient Cathedral

Notre Dame de Paris is one of the most famous churches in the world. A great Paris photo spot that you should visit. The unique thing here is the area around the church, including the seine river, the bustling city of District 4 will bring a lot of photography ideas and many photography angles for you. The Notre Dame House in the spring is also known for the area with cherry blossoms in full bloom. This is one of the most beautiful peach blossom locations in Paris next to Parc de Seaux.

The best place to take a Paris landscape picture with Notre Dame is from Pont de la Tournelle. You will see not only the Notre dame but also the creamy Parisian buildings on the island of Saint Louis. This would be well worth taking photos in Paris.

Updated June 2020 At present, Notre Dame de Paris is still in the reconstruction phase after being burned last year. It is expected that by 2025 you will be able to return to write to visit this church.

11. Latin Quarter (Quartier Latin) - The coolest neighborhood of Paris

Jardin des Plantes, Shakespeare & Company, Panthéon, National Museum of Natural History are some of the photogenic places you can find in the Latin Quarter. Located in District 5 and on the left bank of the Seine River, this is the area with the most students and the most vibrant in Paris. I usually spend a lot of time on street photography here. Evenings in this area are especially bustling because there are many cafes for students. The narrow cobblestone streets full of romance are also one of the endless sources of inspiration for photos of Paris.

12. Le Marais - A historic and fashionable area for street photography

As a photographer in Paris , I found a lot of inspirations for art here. You can easily see a street artist playing music or a painter painting in this area. Art galleries, fashion boutiques, hip boutiques, and street arts are also easily found at le Marais. There is no better place than this for Paris street photography.

Another reason and Le Maris is a must if you are a photography lover that is Maison Européenne de la Photographie. This center for contemporary photographic art is an exciting place to visit in this area. You will learn a lot by visiting it, and you will be more inspired for your next Paris photos. Don’t forget to take photos at the unique cinematic corners near Chez Marianne and Jardin des Rosiers Joseph Migneret.

13. Paris Metro Stations

Why not? One of the most striking features of Paris is the dense subway system. There are many beautiful docks in Paris. Although Metro can be crowded during the day, it can bring a lot of experience and unique to your photos. The photogenic metro stations that you can take into account are Arts et Metiers, Bastille, Louvre-Rivoli, Cluny-La Sorbonne, or Abbesses, The deepest station in the Paris Metro system.

Metro Line 6 from Passy to Pont De Bir Hakeim Station will provide a breathtaking view to the Eiffel Tower. What you capture through the Metro Line 6 window will surely become a unique Paris photo.

Paris is one of the world’s most picturesque, romantic and photographed cities. It’s a city that really doesn’t disappoint the camera lens , and there are many landmarks for you to turn your attention to. Paris photography is a lot of fun, and after reading this guide you’ll be ready to go!

10. Paris Photography: Capturing the Eiffel Tower

The chance to see the Eiffel Tower is a big reason why many people make the trip to Paris. But when it comes to photographing it, there’s something you should know. If you plan on using the photos commercially or posting them anywhere online, you can only photograph the Tower during the day. Night photography of the Eiffel Tower is protected by copyright . But where is the best place to photograph the tower from? Let’s take a look, though bear in mind there are lots of viewpoints for the tower throughout the city.

  • The base of the tower – You’ll need a wide angle lens to make the most of viewpoints here, and you’ll be aiming to get detailed photos of the structure.
  • From the tower – You can ascend the tower, and take photos of the views it offers over the city.
  • The Trocadero – This is one of the best locations for Eiffel Tower photography. Wake up early to capture the tower against the pavement slabs in the foreground. Or use the fountain as a leading line up to the tower.
  • Champ de Mars – This is the park that leads up to the Eiffel tower. You can find it on the opposite side from the Trocadero. Keep in mind that the park is often very busy.

The Eiffel Tower as seen from the viewpoint at the Trocadero.

Photographing the Eiffel Tower at Night

The majority of photographers enjoy taking photos at night. But with the Eiffel Tower you can only do this at night. This is because the illuminations are considered a separate work of art and are still under copyright. Copyright belongs to the artist throughout their lifetime and 70 years after that. The copyright on the tower itself has expired, but the lights were only installed in 1985. Best time to visit – To avoid the crowds go for sunrise . Though under copyright, the tower is beautiful when illuminated during blue hour . Location – The Eiffel Tower

9. Champs Elysee and Arc de Triomphe

A long exposure of the Ard de Triomphe.

8. The Louvre

The exterior of the Louvre at night.

7. Notre-Dame de Paris

Standing on the Île de la Cité in central Paris is Notre Dame. This is another great place to stop and take photos of Paris. It’s worth arriving early to beat the crowds, though that statement is true for most locations in Paris.

  • The facade – The front of Notre Dame is a great subject. There’s an area of open space in front of it so there are a few different compositions you can attempt.
  • From the tower – The top of the tower offers a nice view over the Seine, and you can compose elements of the Cathedral in the foreground of your photo with a landscape of Paris in the background. Arrive early to avoid the cues, and go straight up the tower.
  • The interior – The interior of most religious buildings is photogenic, and the Notre-Dame is no exception. Look for detail photos of the stained glass windows, candle racks, and interesting architecture . Use a wide angle lens to capture a wide scene of the roof, or the central chapel area of the cathedral.
  • The bank of the Seine – There are excellent viewpoints of the back end of the cathedral from the south side of the river, or the bridge crossing the river. Arrive either in the morning with the sun behind you, at sunset, or during the blue hour for the best photographic conditions.

An interesting viewpoint of the Notre Dame from under a bridge.

6. La Defense

5. Basilique du Sacre-Coeur

The view of Sacre Coueur sat on top of Montmartre. The view is from Montparnasse tower.

4. Montmartre and Moulin Rouge

Montmartre is the hill that leads up to Sacre-Coeur, and is a great area to photograph all on its own. The cobblestone streets and attractive shops offer a nice ambience to enjoy, even if you’re not photographing. These elements are great for street photography though. They offer an image of Paris romanticized by street photographers of previous generations. It’s worth visiting here after dark. The street lights add even more mood to the area. This is also where you can find the Moulin Rouge cabaret. It’s an excellent subject for photography especially in the evening. The famous windmill on the front of this building can be photographed with a long exposure, to give the image a more dynamic feel.

Paris Photography Instagram Ideas

There are plenty of places around Paris to take your Instagram worthy self portraits , and other photos. Here are a few ideas you might like to try out.

  • Musee d’Orsay clock – This a great place to try some silhouette portraiture, to really give your Instagram feed something different.
  • Jim Morrison’s Tomb – Those interested in pop culture should visit the tomb.
  • The Sinking House – On the slopes of Montmartre as you climb towards Sacre Coueur, you’ll find a slope that gives rise to an optical illusion . Compose the photo so the house appears to sink into the ground.

After reading this article you should be well prepared for your Paris photography trip. Pack that wide angle lens, a decent prime lens and a telephoto to get the most out of your time in the French capital. Keep in mind Paris offers other great photo opportunities than the ten listed here. You might want to check out Jardin du Luxembourg or make the trip out to Versailles. 20 Best Photo Spots in Paris (+ Secret Spots)

The city combines old architecture, with stunning gardens and palaces, with charming cafes. Whether you are looking for instagrammable places in Paris, a spot for a family photoshoot, or just

This list below includes the best Paris photography locations including some of the most iconic ones, but also some hidden spots. Don’t skip a spot because it’s a popular location (eg. Montmarte) – it’s popular for a reason and while it might be more crowded, it’s definitely still worth your time!

If you’d like to stay near any of these locations, check out my ultimate guide on where to stay in Paris depending on your preferences and enjoy your trip to Paris!

Also, don’t forget that Paris offers plenty of amazing day trips to other amazing castles, palaces and gardens that are must-see spots on every photographer’s Paris bucket list.

Great Photo Spots in Paris

1. eiffel tower.

Everyone wants a photo with the Eiffel Tower and your possibilities are endless! If you’re looking for the best spots for Eiffel Tower photo, there’s no such thing as a top spot. Each spot has a different charm and hence why I included various options.

Because of endless opportunities and angles, I put together a separate post on best places for an Eiffel Tower photoshoot.

2. Pont Alexandre III

The  Pont Alexandre III is a deck arch bridge that spans the Seine that connects the Champs-Élysées with those of the Invalides and Eiffel Tower. The bridge itself is stunning and the views from it are photoworthy. There are always many wedding photoshoots going on there, but everyone is always respectful regardless of whether you’re just shooting a quick selfie, complicated Instagram scene, or professional gown photoshoot.

Click here for Google Maps Location

Pont Alexandre III

3. Notre Dame

Notre Dame Cathedral used to be the top spots to photograph, especially the gargoyles from the terrace. Unfortunately, due to the fire of 2019, this is obviously no longer possible as the terrace and roof are under renovation.

But, it doesn’t mean the cathedral isn’t photogenic from the front of the sides. It’s actually a pretty awesome spot for cherry blossoms if you’re traveling in the springtime.

paris travel photography

4. Arc de Triomphe

Arc de Triomphe is a gorgeous building worth a photo.

My tip is not to go there very late. It’s not the safest spot, especially if you’re just walking with your girlfriends.

IMPORTANT: I see many Instagrammers promoting standing or even worse – sitting, on the dot located in the middle of the road saying the traffic cannot go that way. Trust me, many cars still pass through so it’s pretty dangerous. Also, if you ever partied in Paris you know you’d never want to actually sit on the street especially in your fancy clothes 😉

paris travel photography

5. Plaza Athenee Balcony

Plaza Athenee is THE instagrammable hotel that comes with a heavy price tag. Personally, unless you want the same photo a famous instagrammer has got, I would suggest Shangri-La Hotel instead or even an AirBnB with an amazing rooftop.

6. Musee D’Orsay Clock

Situated in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, the Musée d’Orsay is a former railway station converted to host some of the most iconic works of impressionists.

The photogenic clock is part of this former train station offering great views over Paris and the Seine river. Head there early in the morning to avoid crowds and enjoy the museum after getting your photo.

paris travel photography

7. Les Colonnes de Buren

The 17th century Palais Royal is photogenic itself, but the most popular part – Les Colonnes de Buren. It used to be a highly controversial art installation from 1980s. Its original purpose was to ventilate, but it turned out to be not sustainable enough. Nevertheless, it’s a great photo spot these days!

Paris photo locations

The Louvre offers endless photo opportunities. Starting from the pyramid at the entrance, to view from side cafes and sunsets. However, you can also take photos inside the museum – it’s pretty spectacular!

paris travel photography

9. Galerie Lafayette

Galerie Lafayette is a shopping mall with the most incredible seasonal decorations. If you’re visiting in the winter you need to see their Christmas tree.

There are many photo angles at Lafayette, but if you wish to take a photo on the glass bridge be aware of long lines.

paris travel photography

10. Magazine Stands

Along the Seine there are plenty of newsstands that appear in literally every single movie featuring Paris.

Remember, if you want to take a photo please ask the owner if they’re ok with being in the shot and having their stand photograph. It’s a common courtesy.

11. Dior House

Dior House has never been on my bucket list when I lived in Paris, but thanks to a big Instagrammer @leoniehanne is became super famous.

paris travel photography

12. Opera Garnier

My favorite photo spot in Paris. Opera Garnier is where the infamous Phantom of the Opera was born, so you’ll see actors walking around in phantom’s masks. Everything at this place is gorgeous – stairs, ceilings, balconies!

I recommend visiting right before they close when most crowds are gone. Since it’s a working opera it requires tickets to visit, but there’s no need to purchase them in advance.

Opera Garnier Paris

13. Sinking House of Montmarte

The house is not actually sinking – it’s an optical illusion caused by a hill position. Perfect fun photo opportunity!

14. Le Consulat

Le Consular is an iconic cafe in Montmartre. Not my favorite spot since it’s always packed with tourists (and if you go in the morning the tables aren’t out and the magic disappears).

15. La Maison Rose in Montmartre

A pink building in Montmarte is a famous photo spot, yet it’s never crowded for some reason. It’s also a working restaurant so you can stop and grab a bite to eat.

I actually found streets around it way more photogenic, so remember to wander around Montmartre and simply get lost!

La Maison Rose

16. Sacré-Cœur

The Basilica of Sacred Heart of Paris is located on top of the hill in Montmartre. It’s photogenic itself, but also offer a panorama of Paris when you’re standing next to it. There’s also a carousel at the bottom of the hilly meadow.

P.S. If you want to purchase the helium balloon for your photoshoot there are many stores in Paris that sell them. I got mine at 1000 Fetes store.

Sacre Couer

Lesser-known photo locations in Paris:

17. pink mama.

Pink Mama is a VERY photogenic restaurant. It might not be your typical “Paris photoshoot spot”, but it’s definitely very instagrammable. Plus, the food is actually excellent there.

paris travel photography

18. Rue Cremieux

Rue Cremieux is a regular street with houses painted in different colors, occasionally with different accents like a cat or bird. Think Seven Painted Ladies in San Francisco but on a bigger scale!

The street became famous and while it’s a bit off the tourist path, due to the increased volume of wedding photoshoots the residents ask for not sitting on their porches and definitely respecting their privacy.

19. Square Gabriel Pierné

I discovered this spot by accident and I’m stunned it’s not more famous. Square Gabriel Pierne is a small square, just like many others in Paris, but the benches are shaped like open books.

Paris instagrammable spots

20. Pigalle Basketball Court

Pigalle doesn’t have the greatest reputation due to its past, but it’s now perfectly safe. It’s also home to one of the most colorful basketball court in the world.

It’s not easy to get to a spot, as it’s private property and often closed or used by actual players. If you’re very nice to the caretaker he can open it for you for a few minutes before a new game starts.

paris travel photography

21. Au Vieux Paris d’Arcole

It’s a semi-secret cafe a few steps from Notre Dame. It looks very cute with tables set outside and the decor changes during the year to match the season and holidays.

One thing almost every photographer is skipping is to actually go inside – the cafe has a whole restaurant floor upstairs and it’s just gorgeous!

paris travel photography

22. Sainte Chapelle

Most tourists head to Notre Dame and skip Saint Chapelle, located right next door on the same island! It has a beautiful chapel with tall floor-to-roof stained glass windows and gorgeous gothic ceilings.

Sainte Chapelle

23. Galerie Vivienne

A visit to the covered passage is a must in Paris. Vivienne is 176 meters long and 3 meters wide, and officially a historic monument. It’s never too busy, so you can shoot your photos any time!

Galerie Vivienne Paris

24. Midnight in Paris location

You’ve probably seen the movie! The locations of Woody Allen’s masterpiece are now a mini-tourist attraction, but I’ve never seen any crowds to be honest. Head to Place Place de l’Abbé Basset to sit on the same staircase Owen Wilson sat when he was picked up by a magic car. Actually, if you wait around you might see a vintage car passing by quite often.

Midnight in Paris photo spots

Once you’re done with your photos check out Polidor restaurant nearby – it’s also been featured in the movie. It’s a very old traditional and photogenic restaurant that I really love.

Polidor

25. Le Refuge

Le Refuge is a cafe that’s not very photo-worthy itself, but its location creates a beautiful Parisian shot.

Paris Photography: A List of the Best Paris Photo Spots + Map

By Author Maartje Hensen (she/they)

Posted on Last updated: December 7, 2022

Paris, the city of love, or the city of light, the capital of France and the third most popular destination in the world. It’s no wonder it’s also amongst the most photographed cities in the world and yet, everyone’s obsessed with Paris photography.

Everyone searches for the best view of the Eiffel Tower and couples often book a Paris photoshoot to immortalise the romance. Paris pictures are simply magical when done right!

“Paris is always a good idea.” – Audrey Hepburn

Audrey was right, Paris is always a good idea, however, taking Paris pictures can be difficult. The best Paris places to visit are usually insanely crowded, which is why we highly recommend going to the hot spots during sunrise.

Yes, it takes courage to wake up early, but trust us: it’s so worth it. We’ve visited a couple of times already and have collected the best places in Paris to take pictures!

Best View of the Eiffel Tower, Square Rapp, Paris

Best View of the Eiffel Tower

The question on top of a photographer’s mind in Paris: where can I find the best view of the Eiffel Tower?! We’ve collected our favourite places!

Esplanade du Trocadéro

Trocadero Paris, Eiffel Tower

The Trocadero esplanade (and the Trocadero stairs) is hands-down the best view of the Eiffel Tower. The view isn’t obstructed by anything as you’re elevated on the esplanade.

The symmetry is great and, especially for sunrise, it’s a photographer’s paradise. There are birds flying around, there are many (to be) engaged couples doing photoshoots and although this is the most clichéd location, it’s cliché for a reason.

It’s one of those classic Paris pictures you simply must make!

Port Debilly / from the Seine

If you walk towards the Eiffel Tower in a straight line from the Trocadero Gardens, stop when you reach the Pont d’Iéna. Find the stairs to walk down to the banks of the Seine et voila!

You’re at Port Debilly, one of the best places to take pictures of the Eiffel Tower.

Avenue de Camoens

Avenue de Camoens, Paris, Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower looks great between buildings, and this street is one of those great places to make that happen!

Looking for more Europe city photography? Check out our list of the best Amsterdam photo spots

Rue de l’Université

Best View of the Eiffel Tower, Rue de l'Université, Paris

On the other side of the Seine, you can obviously take pictures from the Eiffel Tower park, Champ de Mars, but if you turn onto the street Rue de l’Université you’ll find another amazing spot for your Paris photography.

A wide-angle lens comes in handy, otherwise, the tower won’t fit in your frame.

Square Rapp

The first time we walked passed this spot, I didn’t take a photo because it looks too obstructed. But I later learned you have to walk all the way into the little street and take a photo from the little garden!

Le Recrutement Café

Best View of the Eiffel Tower, Le Recrutement Café, Rue Saint-Dominique, Boulevard de la Tour-Maubourg, Paris

This place is perfect if you’re looking for a Parisian cafe with Eiffel Tower backdrop. It’s one of the famous Paris Instagram spots actually, and popular amongst fashion and travel influencers.

Pont de Bir-Hakeim

Pont de Bir-Hakeim, Paris, Eiffel Tower

Besides one of the best places to take pictures of Eiffel Tower, this bridge is a beautiful Paris photo spot by itself.

The steel structure of the colonnade is really interesting to photograph, and the streetlights are the perfect addition.

The bridge has two levels: on top the Paris Metro line 6 runs and below there’s a road for vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians.

Pont Alexandre III

Pont Alexandre III from the Seine river cruise, sunset

This elegant bridge connects the Avenue des Champs-Élysées with the museum area of Les Invalides. The bridge was finished for the World Fair in 1900.

For interesting photos, walk along the banks of the Seine, under the bridge, and see the steel structure below. The four golden statues on the pillars on top of the bridge represent the arts, agriculture, commerce and war.

Arc de Triomphe | Avenue des Champs-Élysées

Arc de Triomphe de l'Etoile sunset panorama, Paris Photography

The full name is the Arc de Triomphe de l’Etoile , which is good to know because there are more arches in Paris! The avenue des Champs-Élysées is perfect for taking pictures of this Arc de Triomphe.

If you bring a long lens (or zoom lens) you can create some interesting shots. From close by, you can take good shots from the pedestrian crossings at the roundabout.

Arc de Triomphe de l'Etoile sunset photography

Do not cross the roundabout to get close! There is a pedestrian tunnel to get to the middle.

We highly recommend going up the arch for the perfect Paris pictures for sunset, you can create some interesting panorama shots or long exposure shots.

NOTE: tripods aren’t allowed, but we read mixed reviews about it – some have tried and successfully used their tripods. Otherwise, you can use the railing to stabilise your shots – get creative! Another tip: photograph the spiral staircase, it’s gorgeous.

Be different and photograph the other arches of Paris: Porte Saint-Denis, La Porte Saint Martin, and Carrousel Arc de Triomphe

Louvre Museum & Louvre Pyramid

Louvre Pyramid, silhouette photography, Musée du Louvre, sunset, Paris

Musée de Louvre is the largest museum in the world! The museum has been around since the late 18th century and 30 years ago, the large glass Louvre Pyramid was added to the courtyard.

It is surrounded by three smaller pyramids, which are often overlooked. If you want a shot without other people, go for sunrise.

But we argue that sunset is better because you can see the sunset through the glass pyramids, making for amazing photographs. If you set up a tripod and use slow shutter speed, the crowds won’t even matter that much!

Another magical European city is Budapest, check out our travel guide to Budapest !

Colonnes de Buren at Palais Royal

Colonnes de Buren, Les Deux Plateaux, Palais Royal, Paris

Also known as Les Deux Plateaux, this installation art was created by Daniel Buren in the 1980s. It is located in the courtyard of the 17th century Palais Royal and was highly controversial.

The art was considered ‘unsuitable’ for the historic landmark. It’s absolutely free to enter, but it’s not open 24/7. The openings hours are October-March: daily, 8am-8.30pm. April-September: daily, 8am-10.30pm.

The Clock at Musee D’Orsay

Clock at Musée d'Orsay, Paris

If you want to photograph the city from a unique angle, you must visit the Musee D’Orsay – just across the Seine from Louvre. From the fifth floor, you can look through one of the clocks of the building.

It can be tricky to set your camera settings right, it’s best to expose for the view – that way, you get a great silhouette photo.

If you really want to have all the details, it’s best to make an HDR photo: using different exposures you’ll get better dynamic range by merging the photos.

Good to know: the museum is  closed on Mondays.

Notre Dame Cathedral

Notre Dame Cathedral view, Paris Photography

The Notre Dame is CLOSED for renovation until 2024.  On April 15, 2019, the Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral was badly damaged by a fire.

Before the fire, both the interior and the view from the tower were amazing spots for taking classic Paris pictures.

During the renovation, you’ll see scaffolding in the back of the building and many tents in the front. You can still get creative and get some nice shots from the facade of the cathedral, from the Seine for example!

River Seine

Notre Dame Cathedral, Seine River Cruise during sunset, Paris Photography

You can take beautiful photos of Paris from the bridges over, and the banks of the Seine, but you’ll get an interesting perspective if you book a river cruise.

Pont Alexandre III from Seine river cruise, sunset

We highly recommend going on a boat trip during sunset, to capture the most magical imagery! If you like photographing people, make sure to visit the Tino-Rossi Garden on a summer night to see locals and tourists dancing along the Seine!

Photography tip: bring French props like wine, cheese and baguette to make your photos interesting!

Les Toits de Paris | Paris rooftops

Two girls kissing on Paris rooftops, Toits de Paris

Paris rooftops have that special magic. They’re quirky and romantic, and Parisians love a good DIY rooftop terrace – perfectly fitting the Parisian joie de vivre .

There are a few smart French out there, like @jonathan.bdelaunay and Visuddhi UNG , who can take you up to the most beautiful – and hidden – toits de Paris .

We arranged a sunrise-meeting with Jonathan, who has been climbing roofs since college, and we climbed up to one of the quirkiest rooftops of Paris.

Alternatively, you can visit rooftop bars like Le Perchoir, the one on top of Galeries Lafayette, or climb up the stairs of the Sacre Coeur for a nice view over the roofs of the city.

Paris Carousel

Paris Photoraphy Carousel Eiffel Tower

Like rooftops, carousels in Paris are more magical than they are elsewhere in the world. Maybe because there are three with a very special backdrop!

There are two at the Eiffel Tower, one right in front of the Eiffel Tower and one at the Trocadero gardens, and there is one in front of the Sacre-Coeur Basilica. Bring your wide-angle lens!

Curious what gear we shoot with? Check out our travel camera equipment article.

Sacré-Cœur Basilica

Sacré-Cœur, Montmartre, Paris

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris is a roman Catholic Church and minor basilica. The basilica is located on top of the highest point of the city, making for amazing panoramic views.

The views from and on the basilica are equally beautiful and the interior of the church makes for great photos too (free to enter, open every day).

The basilica is located in the heart of the Montmartre neighbourhood, an area that is full of picturesque places. Let’s explore more!

Montmartre Photography

Montmartre really feels more like a village than an area in the big city of Paris.

The neighborhood is spread over a hill, which makes for sore calves after exploring, but also for the best Paris pictures with great lines in them.

Get creative – a good photographer loves fun diagonal lines. Make sure to check out “Paris Instagram spot” metro station Lamarck – Caulaincourt for nice diagonal lines with the staircases!

Sinking House

Sinking House, optical illusion Sacré-Cœur, Montmartre, Paris

Talking about lines and getting creative: the Sinking House is a fun optical illusion to photograph.

It’s actually a normal house, but when you make the grassy hill your new horizon, it looks like the house is falling over.

It’s actually located just one staircase down from the Sacre Coeur!

Good to know: between April 16 and October 14 you are allowed to climb over the fence to walk/sit on the grass (we asked the patrolling police) to make some fun photos, as long as you don’t leave any trash!

La Maison Rose

La Maison Rose, Pink House, Montmartre, Paris

If you head to the left at the Sacre-Coeur, you’ll walk into the bustling heart of Montmartre. One of the famous “Paris Instagram Spots” is  La Maison Rose .

It’s located on Rue de l’Abreuvoir , and if you walk further into the street, you’ll get an amazing view of the street, with a little top of the Sacre Coeur showing above.

Le Consulat

Le Consulat, Montmartre, Paris Instagram

Another “Instagrammable Spot” of Paris: restaurant Le Consulat. This is a really cute – yet touristy – area with many souvenir shops, but also more artsy merchandise.

Montmartre Art

Paris is full of street art, and we found a few beautiful pieces in Montmartre. There’s a flamingo wall on Rue Berthe, but by wandering around the area you’ll bump into many other murals!

Moulin Rouge

Moulin Rouge, Montmartre, Paris

Another classic Paris picture: the Moulin Rouge. You can take pictures from the exterior, but know that if you book a show, taking photos won’t be allowed!

Paris Art Nouveau Metro Stations

Paris Art Nouveau Metro Station, Blanche, Moulin Rouge

The Paris art nouveau signage is worth photographing, too. The Blanche metro station, close to the Moulin Rouge, makes for great photos.

Some other beautiful stations are Porte Dauphine, Saint-Michel, Cité (interior), Châtelet, Palais Royal – Musée du Louvre, and Pigalle.

Pigalle Basketball | Playground Duperré

Pigalle Basketball Court, Playground Duperré, Montmartre, Paris

Definitely the most colourful Paris photo spot: the new Pigalle Basketball court, aka Playground Duperré.

This collaboration between French fashion brand Pigalle, photography studio Ill-Studio, and Nike was painted in 2017.

The goal was to create a fun court for kids to play basketball but obviously, it attracts many photographers too!

Good to know: the court opens Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday from 12pm-7pm, Wednesday 10am-19pm and Sunday 11am-5pm (as seen on schedule in August 2019) .

Rue Crémieux

Rue Crémieux, Paris

Not as colourful as the Pigalle court, but definitely close: we call it the Notting Hill of Paris . This houses in the street have facades in all colours of the rainbow!

Note: make sure to be respectful of the residents, don’t be too loud or block their entrances.

Maison Fond | The Melting House at Gare du Nord

Maison Fond, Gare du Nord, Melting House, Paris

Like the Sinking house, this melting house is a fun photo spot in Paris. As Gare du Nord is a busy station, expect many people to walk/hang around at this artwork. It’s conveniently located next to the entrance of the station!

Palais Garnier | Opera de Paris

Palais Garnier, Opera de Paris

If you love to photograph buildings, you must visit the Palais Garnier! It was built in the 19th century and is now primarily used for ballet.

Galeries Lafayette

Besides the previously discussed rooftop view, Galeries Lafayette has an amazing ceiling that is worth photographing!

Palace of Versailles

An hour (or one and a half, depending on your location) from Paris lies the impressive Palace of Versailles. Here you can find the famous, endless, gardens and Hall of Mirrors.

Good to know: the palace is closed on Mondays. If you’re into photographing gardens, make sure to visit the other famous jardins of Paris: Tuileries Gardens and Luxembourg Gardens.

The Best Photography Locations in Paris

Last updated: August 25, 2021 . Written by Laurence Norah - 12 Comments

Paris is easily one of my favourite cities in the world, and by far one of the most photogenic . Today, as part of my series where I share some of my favourite photography locations from destinations around the world, I want to give you my tips for where to get the best photos in Paris.

Let’s get started.

1. The Top Of Montparnasse Tower

It took me a while to figure out the best place to photograph Paris at sunset, but after a lot of trial and error, I came to the conclusion that the top of Montparnasse Tower is the place to go. It isn’t free to get to the top (latest ticket prices here ), but it seems perfectly set up for photographers, with holes in the glass to shoot through, and no restrictions on tripod usage.

Eiffel tower at dusk

And what views you get. In my opinion, this is the best location to get photos of the Eiffel Tower , particularly at sunset and through into the blue hour, as the city lights start to come on.

You’ll want both a wide angle lens to get the whole city into your shot, as well as something like a 70-200mm to frame the Eiffel Tower more tightly, and of course a tripod, although I would advise bringing a fairly tall tripod as the partitions in the glass are fairly high, and you want to avoid having to extend your central column as much as I did if possible!

VEO tripod Montparnasse

You can also get lovely shots of other parts of the city, including Montmartre.

2. At the Arc de Triomphe

The Arc de Triomphe is a classic Parisian landmark, well worth taking the time to shoot. My personal favourite location to do so is from the Champs Elysees, on a long exposure.

Arc de Triomphe at night

There’s a pedestrian crossing a short way down the Champs Elsyees from the Arc, where you can set up a tripod on a long exposure, and get a great shot at dusk, dawn, or night, using the moving cars to create light trails.

3. Place du Concorde

The Place du Concorde is home to the 3,000 year old Obelisk of Luxor, brought here from Egypt in 1833. This was no easy feat, given as it weighs around 250 tonnes! The Place du Concorde has also been home to some notable French events, in particular the execution of France’s last King, Louis XVI, during the French Revolution.

Place du Concorde night Paris

I think the Place makes for a fun photography subject, with the Champs Elysees stretching out in one direction, and the Tuileries Gardens in the other. It’s from these gardens that I recommend getting the shot – in particular, taking advantage of the large pond to get a nice reflection shot.

4. Behind Notre Dame

Notre Dame is a beautiful gothic cathedral, well worth a visit. Its stand out feature in my mind are its flying buttresses, which means you need to shoot from behind for the best shots.

To get these, you have two options. The first is from Pont de la Tournelle, a few minutes walk south east of Notre Dame, where you can get some lovely shots with a longer lens.

_by_Laurence Norah-51

Alternatively, head underneath the Pont de l’Archeveche, and to the banks of the Seine itself. Here there are some wonderful locations to grab photos of Notre Dame and the River Seine. Ideal shooting times are at dusk and dawn.

5. The Trocadero

There are numerous places to shoot the Eiffel Tower, but other than Montparnasse Tower, my favourite is from the Trocadero. Across the river from the Eiffel Tower, this offers a slightly elevated vantage point, from where you can shoot the Eiffel Tower against the city skyline, and really get a feel for the scale of this construction.

Eiffel Tower from Trocadero

The other advantage of this location is that there are multiple fountains in the Jardins du Trocadero, which line up perfectly with the Eiffel Tower and the road opposite. When they are going off, they can be a lovely bit of foreground for your composition.

6. Montmartre

One of the most famous locations in Paris to watch the sunset is on the steps and slope in from of the Sacre Coeur on top of Montmatre, a hill slightly to the north of Paris. This whole part of Paris though is excellent to shoot. The hill offers panoramic views, the Sacre Coeur itself is no eyesore, and there are little alleyways galore to explore.

Montmartre Sunrise Paris

Don’t miss the Place du Tertre either – it’s one of the most famous places in Paris to get a portrait painted, and if you’re after a bit of street photography, this is an excellent place to come.

7. At the Moulin Rouge

I very much enjoyed our visit to the Moulin Rouge , even though you can’t take pictures inside the show. Still, you can take pictures of the outside of the world’s most famous cabaret, which is nearly as good.

moulin rouge long exposure

The best spot for shots is just across the road from the famous red windmill, and really you should visit at night with a tripod, and shoot some long exposures. You’ll get that lovely light trail effect from the windmill, and if you position yourself right, you might even get some light trails from passing cars.

VEO tripod moulin rouge

8. The Louvre

Last, but by no means least, on my guide to my favourite photography locations in Paris, has to be the Louvre museum. Again, worth visiting the actual museum, but for photography purposes, you’ll want to be outside. There are lots of angles and shots to try, but my suggestion to use the glass pyramid as the hinge for your shots.

Louvre Paris Dusk

This sits in excellent contrast to the rest of the museum buildings, which are of a more classic architectural style, and offers leading lines galore to draw your viewers in. Again, dusk and dawn are the best times to shoot, with those lights popping on, but you can in fact get decent shots here throughout the day as it’s such a fascinating looking construction.

Where to Stay in Paris

As you would expect from a major European capital city, Paris has no shortage of options when it comes to accommodation. We’ve stayed in a variety of places, from hotels to homestays to apartments.

Ideally you want to be fairly central if you can, to minimise your travel time. Our suggestion is to take a look at the listings for Paris on booking.com . They’re our favourite booking engine when we travel, `usually giving us the best choice and the best prices. They also have everything, from apartments and hostels to high end hotels. Here are some options we suggest, depending on your budget.

  • Hotel Dress Code & Spa , a highly reviewed centrally located 4 star hotel right a few hundred yards from the opera house
  • Hôtel Eiffel Turenne , a well rated 3* hotel within a ten minute walk of the Eiffel Tower
  • Ateliers de Montmartre , an apartment in Montmartre with views of the Sacre Coeur
  • Vintage Paris Gare du Nord by Hiphophostels , a Hostel just next to Paris Gare du Nord
  • The Generator Paris , a well reviewed hostel near Paris Gare de l’Est
  • Hotel le Compostelle , a highly rated 3* hotel centrally located near the Louvre Museum

If you prefer an apartment, then we recommend either  Plum Guide  or  AirBnB .

Plum Guide carefully curate their listings so their options tend to be of a very high quality whilst still being available at a range of price points. See their listings for Paris here .

We’ve also used AirBnB all around the world, and they consistently have the most options to choose from. See their  listings for Paris here .

If you can’t find what you want from the above choices, or you want some new options to try out, we wrote a whole post on the  best alternatives to AirBnB  which you should check out!

We also have a page full of travel resources, which includes our tips for getting the best deals on accommodation, which you can find  here .

Additional Resources for Paris Photography Locations

Thanks for the super useful tips! Can I check the unextended height of your tripod? Trying to compare that with mine for the shooting at top of the Montparnasse Tower.

15th July 2018 at 10:23 am

My pleasure. The VEO 2 I was using has a maximum height of 59″ extended, and I’d say the center column is probably around 16″ of that. I couldn’t get my camera to the cutouts without fully extending the center column, so a taller tripod would definitely have been better.

15th July 2018 at 11:07 am

Thanks again. I am buying a new one anyway so will take that into considerations. And may I also know if you have any recommended spots for taking the Mont Saint Michel (isolated as an island) – have been reading comments online that it will no longer fully submerged even in high tides 🙁 i hope they are not true.

15th July 2018 at 11:38 am

Sure thing. I have a post on visiting, but I don’t know about the submergence. I know the bridge is different to how it used to be, but it was already there when I visited.

The pictures in that were taken from the marsh, from around here: https://goo.gl/maps/CbiPGTe8C5C2

I liked all the little rivulets and waterways that gave some fun composition options 🙂 I was there for sunset, but sunrise would be great too as the light will fall onto the Mont.

A woman taking a photo from Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris

Paris is brimming with photogenic spots that will quickly fill your photo galleries. You can hop on a private photography tour or hone your photo-taking skills as you explore the city.

Don’t know where to start? Browse through this list of the best photo spots in Paris–from elegant landmarks and colorful streets to rooftops that overlook the Parisian skyline. Don’t forget to free up some space on your phone or camera before the trip.

1. Trocadéro Gardens

View of the Eiffel Tower in the evening from Trocadéro Gardens in Paris

A classic photo spot in Paris, the Trocadéro Gardens is an open green space in the 16th arrondissement. It’s famous for offering breathtaking views of the Eiffel Tower , which lies directly across the Seine River .

The city’s iconic landmark isn’t the only thing worthy of your attention here, though. Snap photos of Palais de Chaillot , as well as the garden’s fountains and sculptures. Tip: Be wary of pickpockets that operate in this touristy area.

2. Rue de l'Universite

View of Eiffel Tower from Rue de l'Universite street in Paris

Take a walk along Rue de l'Universite , a residential street with Haussmannian architecture typical of Paris. From Saint-Germain-des-Près , it runs parallel to the Seine River, passing by the Esplanade des Invalides .

Get your camera ready as you near the Eiffel Tower. Soon enough, you’ll spot it at the end of the street, soaring from the ground to the sky. If you want professional photos without the hassle, book a photoshoot experience at the Eiffel Tower .

3. Terrace of Printemps Haussman

View from seventh-floor terrace of Printemps Haussman in Paris

Head up to the seventh-floor terrace of Printemps Haussman for panoramic views of the Parisian rooftops, with landmarks like the Dôme des Invalides and the Eiffel Tower in sight. If you’d like to savor the views with a meal, make reservations at Perruche , a Provencal restaurant tucked on the highest floor. The flagship store of Printemps itself is an architectural marvel, so strike some poses as you do your shopping.

4. The Louvre Pyramid

View of the Louvre Museum in Paris on a sunny day

You’ve seen it in photos countless times. During your trip to Paris, take the opportunity for a selfie in front of the Louvre Pyramid . This structure of glass and metal looks majestic day or night. It’s no wonder this is a popular spot for wedding photography.

For the best photos, come right after the rainfall and capture a reflection of the Louvre Pyramid through the puddles of water. Book skip-the-line tickets for the Louvre Museum to admire masterful works of art after your photoshoot.

5. Les Colonnes de Buren

The Domaine National du Palais-Royal comprises a former royal palace, gardens, and a courtyard transformed into an art installation. Created by French artist Daniel Buren, Les Colonnes de Buren features 260 columns striped in black and white. Its contemporary look lies in contrast to the old buildings surrounding it. Visit in the early morning if you’d like a photo of the courtyard without the crowds.

6. Rue Crémieux

The pastel colored houses along Rue Crémieux in Paris

A short walk from Gare de Lyon train station, Rue Crémieux is the very definition of an Instagrammable street. Pastel-colored houses stand on both sides of this pedestrian street, while shrubs add a touch of greenery. Peer closer, and you’ll spot artistic murals on the walls. Bear in mind that this is a residential area, so keep the volume down during your photo op.

7. Pont Alexandre III

The Pont Alexandre III in Paris in the evening

Pont Alexandre III spans the Seine River, connecting the Invalides neighborhood with the Grand Palais and Petit Palais . This bridge is constructed in beaux-arts style and decorated with sculptures of cherubs, cupids, nymphs, and the like. Massive pillars lie on each corner of the bridge, each with a gilded statue on top. Come during sunset to watch the art nouveau lamps light up as the skies turn dark.

8. Sacré Coeur

View of Sacré-Cœur Basilica from the bottom of the steps

The Sacré-Cœur Basilica sits at the top of a hill in Montmartre . There are numerous spots to click away, such as the steps in front of the church or the carousel at Place Saint-Pierre. This monument is the second-highest point in the city—the first is the Eiffel Tower—so it provides a spectacular view over Paris. After taking a portrait in front of the church’s white facade, head up the tower for 360-degree views.

9. La Maison Rose

View of the La Maison Rose in Paris

La Maison Rose (‘The Pink House’) opened in 1908 after Germaine Pichot painted its walls a powdery pink. Since then, this restaurant has attracted painters, singers, poets, and writers. Among those who have dined here are Édith Piaf and Albert Camus. Come inside for a taste of French-Italian dishes or just snap a photo of its pretty exterior. Then, continue down the winding Abreuvoir Street to capture homes with ivy-covered walls.

10. Le Mur des Je t'aime

A woman taking a photo of the Le Mur des Je t'aime wall in Paris

The Wall of Love or Le Mur des Je t'aime is a romantic spot to exchange sweet words with a loved one—and take some couple shots, of course. Hidden in the Jehan Rictus garden in Montmartre, this wall of enamel tiles features the phrase ‘I love you’ written 311 times in 250 different languages. Spot the red fragments? Those are pieces of a broken heart that can be whole again once put back together.

11. Place des Vosges

People sitting on benches at the Place des Vosges in Paris

The 17th-century Place des Vosges is the oldest planned public square in Paris. With manicured lawns and stylish fountains, it’s a calm respite from the bustling Marais district . Bring along a picnic and have a seat under the shade of trees. The townhouses that surround the square provide an aesthetic backdrop no matter which angle you turn.

12. Galerie Vivienne

A man standing in the middle of a corridor at Galerie Vivienne in Paris

Galerie Vivienne is one of the many historic covered arcades found in Paris. This passage is usually free from crowds, so you can take photos in peace. Switch to wide-angle mode to capture the colorful mosaics on the ground and the glass roof above you. While you’re there, pop into Bistrot Vivienne for a coffee break.

13. La Petite Ceinture

View from inside a railway tunnel at La Petite Ceinture in Paris

Once a railway line, La Petite Ceinture is now a walking path that runs through multiple arrondissements in Paris—such as the 12th , 13th , and 15th . This secret photo spot in Paris is ideal for nature lovers who love a long walk. Slow down when you reach Parc Montsouris in the 14th arrondissement, as this is one of the most picturesque sections of the walk.

14. Louis Vuitton Foundation

The sails of Louis Vuitton Foundation building in Paris

If you’re a fan of contemporary architecture, make your way to the Louis Vuitton Foundation which is nestled in the woodlands of Bois de Boulogne . This art museum is created by LVMH Group, the French conglomerate that owns Louis Vuitton. Designed by architect Frank Gehry, the building resembles a glass sailboat. Head to the rooftop terraces for close-up shots of the sails.

15. Arab World Institute

View of the facade of Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris

The Arab World Institute , or Institut du Monde Arabe, is an exhibition center that showcases Arabic culture and heritage. The building’s facade makes an interesting photo subject with its glass-clad walls. Geometric motifs, which are created by photo-sensitive shutters, are visible behind the glass. As a cherry on the cake, you can access the rooftop terrace which offers views of the Notre Dame Cathedral .

16. Playground Duperre

Playground Duperre is a basketball court in Pigalle that was revamped in 2020 with financial support from Nike. You don’t have to be a basketball fan to appreciate the burst of colors that splash the walls. Come with your friends and family—and who knows, you might end up with photos of a friendly match with locals.

Paris Photography Guide – The Best Photo Spots in Paris

paris at night

Paris is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with its stunning French architecture and unique landmarks. Whether you’re an amateur photographer hoping to capture some memories from Paris to share with friends and family or a professional looking for some picturesque shooting locations, this Paris photography guide can help you take amazing photos in the French capital. Paris Photography Guide – Tips for a Perfect Shot

Tip 1: Get up early! If you want to get photos of iconic sights without tons of people, you’ll have to wake up early to beat the crowds. It can be a pain to wake up early, but I’m sure a little French espresso and a croissant will revive you!

Tip 2: If you can, get a room with a view! I love getting rooms with views of the Parisian streets because they make a perfect photo backdrop! Bonus points if they have a balcony!

Tip 3: Find the overlooked areas in major attractions . Even in the busiest parts of Paris, you can find great photo spots just by walking a little farther past the crowds of tourists. You can find empty rooms of interesting artifacts in famous museums like the Louvre by visiting corridors that don’t house the most famous works of art. Walk around side streets to take great shots with a city backdrop.

Shakespeare and Co

The Best Photo Spots in Paris

  • Palais Royal – At the top of my list, the Palais Royal is one of my favorite photo spots in Paris. The former palace has lovely gardens, stunning architecture, and interesting black and white striped columns. Palais Royal is just a short walk from the Louvre, so you can easily stop by when wandering through the 1st arrondissement. Read my full guide to the 1st arrondissement for more things to do and see in this area!
  • Place des Vosges – This square, located in Le Marais, is one of the most beautiful squares in Paris. This perfect square of French buildings looks out onto a manicured green park, ideal for quintessentially Parisian photos.
  • Eiffel Tower – You can’t visit Paris without seeing the Eiffel Tower, so I had to include it in this Paris photography guide! It seems like everyone who comes to Paris takes the classic Eiffel Tower shot. Most people take photos of the Eiffel Tower from the Trocadero or the Champs de Mars. While these locations give great views of the tower, they can be very crowded. I like going down the streets near the Eiffel Tower to get photos of the tower peeking out between buildings! Fun fact: the light show that happens every hour on the hour once the sun sets is actually copyrighted by the artist who created it, so taking photos or videos of this display is technically against copyright law!
  • Tuileries Garden – In the heart of Paris between the Louvre Museum and Concorde, you’ll find the beautiful Tuileries Garden! This is one of the best photo spots in Paris because you can see so many Parisian monuments from the garden! The area also has lots of statues and flowers and cafes where you can sit and have a glass of wine while taking in the atmosphere! This is a really beautiful park, and even though it gets pretty crowded, it can be a g reat place to take pictures.
  • Luxembourg Garden – Luxembourg Garden is a large park located in the 6th arrondissement. The Luxembourg Palace (now the Senate building) is really beautiful, and the gardens and fountains are really lovely. This is also a great spot to stop for a picnic!
  • Montmartre – No Paris photography guide would be complete without Montmartre. This neighborhood was home to the most famous artists in the world during the Belle Epoche era, and its artistic past is still visible today. If you wander up the streets leading to the top of the hill, you’ll pass several picturesque homes and cafes. In the main square, you’ll find artists painting while tourists pass by. The iconic Sacré-Cœur Basilica at the top of Montmartre is really unique and worth taking a photo of. Read my full guide to Montmartre for everything you need to see, eat, and do in this neighborhood.
  • Markets – There are so many interesting markets filled with food, antiques, and more throughout the city. My favorite market for taking photos is the flower market on the Île de la Cité- it’s so colorful and vibrant! The flower market turns into a bird market on Sundays, which is also very interesting to photograph.
  • Shakespeare and Co – If you love book stores, you should visit Shakespeare and Co, a quaint English bookstore with an adorable facade. It’s right across the river from the Notre Dame.
  • For a view of the skyline, there are several options. Lots of people opt to go up the Eiffel Tower, but I prefer the views from other locations because I like to have the iconic monument in my shot. If you want a great shot of the Eiffel Tower, go up to the viewing deck on Montparnasse Tower . You can also go up to the top of the Arc de Triomphe for great views of the Champs-Élysées. Before the Notre Dame closed because of the damage from the fire, you could get amazing views of the city by going up its towers, so hopefully, they’ll reopen this to tourists in the near future.

The Eiffel Tower From Rue de l’Université Is One Of Our Favorite Paris Photography Spots

Rue de l’Université is a street that dead-ends right in front of the Eiffel Tower! It is one of the best Paris photography spots to blend the Eiffel Tower and the street together in one photo because it is a dead end road. Even though Rue de l’Université is a dead end, there are still a lot of people that try and park there or turn around there so you will have to dodge traffic but it is nowhere near as busy as other Paris photography locations.

Rue de l’Université is a great photography spot in Paris at any time of the day but go at night if you are looking for fewer crowds and wonderful night photos of the Eiffel Tower. This little dead-end street is near residential neighborhoods so make sure to be quiet and respectful of those who live there when visiting this cute Paris photography location!

The City From The Musée d’Orsay Clock

Musée d’Orsay is one of the most popular museums in Paris [next to the Louvre], but it also has a secret Paris photography location! For stunning views of the city and a unique photographic perspective, visit the Musée d’Orsay clock face! The clock looks out over the city and up over the Montmartre district and the Seine River. This is a much less popular Paris photography location so if you are looking for something new, this is the place for you!

There are a variety of ways to shoot the city from the Musée d’Orsay clock, but our favorites are shooting just the cityscape itself or shooting a person or the clock in silhouette format! Everyone loves clocks and silhouetting a person with the city of Paris in the background makes this a truly memorable Paris photography location! If you are going with your family, how cool would it be to do photos here of your children overlooking the city?

The Montmartre Vineyards Are A Totally Secret Paris Photography Spot

The Montmartre Vineyards, also known as Vignes du Clos Montmartre are truly a hidden gem and a wonderful Paris photography spot you must visit! The vineyard is over 800 years old and is the last remaining one in the city! This is one of those spots that you most likely never heard of until now and you certainly won’t find in most guidebooks! The Montmartre Vineyards are the perfect Paris photography location if you love off-the-beaten-path places or you have been to Paris before and are looking for something unique!

The thing that makes The Montmartre Vineyards the perfect Paris photography spot is that they change during the seasons so you are in for a real treat no matter what time of year you travel to Paris! They may be green and vibrant, they may be brown and dead, or they may be golden as their leaves change during the fall! We highly recommend The Montmartre Vineyards as the ultimate cute and quaint Paris photography spot you won’t find all over Instagram.

The Les Colonnes de Buren Art Installation At Palais-Royal

The best part of visiting Palais-Royal in Paris is the very photogenic art installation in one of its courtyards! This art installation is called  Les Colonnes de Buren and was erected in 1986. The installation consists of many black and white striped columns that rise up from one of the courtyards in the Palace. There are some short ones you can stand on and some taller ones that are great for the background and it is a wonderful stop on any Paris itinerary!

Les Colonnes de Buren is a wonderful Paris photography spot, especially if you go early in the morning to beat the crowds. If you are looking for an Instagram-worthy spot for Paris photography, Les Colonnes de Buren is quite a popular and photogenic choice. If you want those pastel pink vibes, go early for the morning sunlight!

Port Debilly On The Right Of Pont De Lena Bridge Offers Unobstructed Eiffel Tower Views

Port Debilly is the name of the little bank of the Seine in front of the Eiffel Tower and offers wonderful unobstructed Paris photography views of the Eiffel Tower. This location is located to the right of Pont De Lena bridge, the bridge that runs in front of the Eiffel Tower, and is down by the waterside. It is one of the coolest Paris photography locations for night photos of the Eiffel Tower but works no matter what time you visit!

This spot makes for great night photography because you can get boats in the shot, do long exposure photos of the river, get the Eiffel tower at night, and do it all without people being in the photo! This is an awesome Paris photography location if you are looking to sit along the bank of the river for some awesome Instagram or family photos that feature the Eiffel Tower and are free from tourists! Just make sure to walk down the steps to the little road that runs underneath the Pont De Lena bridge!

Saint Chappelle Is A Stunning And Lesser-Known Place For Paris Photography

Saint Chappelle is another Paris photography location that is popular, but nowhere near as well known as many other sites in the city! In fact, many people who travel to Paris have never even heard of Saint Chappelle! It is located less than 5-10 minutes walk from the more popular Notre Dame Cathedral on the same little island in the middle of the Seine River!

What makes Saint Chappelle such an alluring Paris photography location is the fact the small chapel is full of floor-to-ceiling stained glass windows. These windows are breathtaking and unlike anything else you have seen before in your life! The entire church is basically one giant stained glass window! When we visited this Paris photography location, it was extremely busy because the entrance was free, but we were easily able to angle the camera up and shoot the windows that way. If you are looking to get people, or yourself, in the shot, we recommend visiting Saint Chappelle either early or late for the best Paris photography opportunity!

The “Sinking House” In Montmartre Creates A Playful Optical Illusion

When walking up the hill to Sacre-Coeur in Montmartre, there will be a building to your right that is pink and white and looks like a gingerbread Parisian home. If you photograph the building on an angle next to the hill and then turn the image, it will appear as if this building is actually “sinking” into the ground! This Paris photography location creates a unique optical illusion to add some playfulness into your images!

The Sinking House is easy to find, simply get yourself to the hill leading up to Sacre-Coeur, look to your right, and angle your camera in such a way that the building appears to sink! If you are having a hard time, there are plenty of inspiration photos online, including ours here, that will help you figure out how to capture this cool optical illusion in your Paris photography.

The Arc De Triumph From Champs Elyeese Is A Dangerous But Perfect Paris Photography Location

Looking for a dangerous yet epic Paris photography spot? There is a little circular dot in the middle of the Champs Elysees right in front of the Arc De Triumph. It is in the middle of the road, but it is a divider so no cars are supposed to go over it. This is a great spot for Paris photography because you can capture the Arc De Triumph and the cars, but no people in the shot!

When you are standing on the Champs Elysees facing the Arc, the dot is literally in the middle of the road. Sometimes this spot is very popular and there is a line so make sure to take your shots quickly! It is also a great spot for night photography in Paris because you can get some wonderful light trails from the cars as they go by! Just be careful when visiting this Paris photography spot because it literally is in the middle of the road but well worth it!

Montparnasse Tower Provides You With A Bird’s Eye View Of Paris

Montparnasse Tower is located in the south of Paris and is a giant futuristic looking tower with an observation deck on top. The tower is 59 stories so you get quite the majestic view of the city! This tower lets you see views of all of Paris, including the Eiffel Tower from above! There is a fee to enter, so if you are looking for free Paris photography spots this is  not  the location for you. Believe it or not, tripods are allowed, so if you want to shoot the city by night or are looking to photograph the sunset, you can bring a tripod to aid your photography.

Montparnasse Tower is also a great spot for taking the family as kids love the view and looking through the binoculars on the top deck. Make sure to go early if you want to catch sunset so you have time to set up, choose your angle, and figure out how you want to capture the City Of Lights!

The Louvre Pyramid Is A Can’t-Miss Paris Photography Location

You can’t have a list of Paris photography locations without suggesting the Louvre Pyramid! The Louvre Pyramid is photogenic no matter what time of day you visit! If you go during the day, you may have to combat a lot of people but you will be able to get as close as you want. You will also be able to wander the surrounding halls for different and unique angles of the Louvre Pyramid!

If you decide to photograph the Louvre Pyramid at night or after-hours, you will not be able to get up close as there is a fence that is locked at night. We do not recommend trespassing and jumping over this fence, but you can bring your tripod and a good zoom lens and shoot from beyond the fence. Keep in mind that the lights shut off at 1am so make sure to go before then if you want to make the Louvre Pyramid one of your Paris photography locations!

Notre Dame Cathedral Offers Many Paris Photography Options Both Inside And Out

Notre Dame Cathedral offers so many amazing Paris photography options! You can pick one or do all that the church has to offer! This is a great photography stop to combine with Saint Chapelle, mentioned above. First off, you should photograph Notre Dame from the front and feature all the resident pigeons flying around the shot!

Second, you should photograph Notre Dame from the back because the church and the design is stunning! We even recommend walking across the Seine River to take photos that include the back of the church, the river, and possibly even a passing boat or two! You will totally love the architecture and it won’t disappoint!

You can also enter the Cathedral to take photos of the stained glass rose windows inside and the stonework as well! Finally, if you want more views of the city from above, walk up into one of the bell towers for an up-close view of the architecture and sweeping views of the city! Notre Dame is basically four Paris photography locations wrapped into one stop so you really can’t go wrong!

The Trocadero Offers Picture-Perfect Eiffel Tower Views Day And Night

The Trocadero is another Paris photography location like Notre Dame above that offers multiple angles all in one spot! The Trocadero is the giant building that sits across the Seine River from the Eiffel Tower. We recommend shooting the Eiffel Tower from the steps leading up to the Trocadero and sitting on the wall/banister for some cute photos! If you are taking shots for Instagram or with your family, this is the perfect place to visit! Even if it is crowded, you can get away with shooting the Eiffel Tower without many people being in the photos!

You can also photograph the Eiffel Tower from the top of the Trocadero, even though this location can be quite crowded unless you go early in the morning or late at night! You can also shoot the Eiffel Tower from the bottom of the Trocadero near the fountain. Sometimes the fountains have water in them and sometimes they don’t. When we visited Paris in winter , the fountains did not have water in them and we were able to walk down inside the fountains for some great views of the Eiffel Tower. The views from the Trocadero are the perfect Paris photography location by both day and night!

La Mansion Rose Is A Wonderful Paris Photography Location For Simple But Beautiful Images

If you are looking for something simple and quaint, yet memorable to photograph, head to Montmartre and find Paris’ “pink building.” This building is called La Mansion Rose and is also a working restaurant so you can stop and grab a bite to eat if you so desire! La Mansion Rose is popular with Instagrammers, but not really anyone else because it is a little off-the-beaten-path!

You can visit La Mansion Rose while you are in Montmartre and it is cute during the morning and afternoon. If you don’t want to get anyone in your shots but you still want wonderful light, La Mansion Rose photographs best during sunrise as it will be bathed in soft light that will really accent the pink exterior. Remember to be respectful when photographing this location as it is someone’s business!

The Opera Garnier Will Add Opulent Grandeur To Your Photos

If you are looking for a Paris photography location that looks like a palace inside, The Opera Garnier is the place for you! The theatre room itself is spectacular and impressive to visit and the regal reds and golds look stunning in photos! Even better, walk around The Opera Garnier and the palace for stunning views in the hallways of the detailed artwork on the ceilings and walls.

When photographing The Opera Garnier, make sure to shut your flash off and boost your ISO a bit so that your images won’t be so dark. We recommend shooting on manual for the best results, but smartphone photos work well too at this Paris photography location! This gives you a bit of a different perspective for photography in Paris as you will be shooting indoors instead of outside! The Opera Garnier will not disappoint you!

Sacré-Cœur And It’s City Views Provide You With Plenty Of Paris Photography Options

Sacré-Cœur is the highest point in all of Paris! This Catholic Church is located high on a hill in Montmartre and overlooks the entire city! Like Notre Dame, it offers a variety of Paris photography shots to add to your collection. First off, you can photograph the church itself, which is stunning and all white! You can also go inside and shoot the church that way as well!

You have the option to go up inside the dome of the church and get sweeping views of the city of Paris as well as the Eiffel Tower. While the tower is tiny and far away, it is a unique vantage point and quite cool to see, especially at sunset or sunrise. Finally, there is a platform in front of Sacré-Cœur which is perfect to take your own couples photos, family photos, or shots of the city itself! Simply walk up to the railing and start shooting! You really can’t go wrong and Sacré-Cœur offers a Paris photography option for every type of creative!

Pont Alexandre III And Any Bride Across The Seine Offer Unique Perspectives Of The City

Pont Alexandre III is the fanciest bridge in Paris and a popular Paris photography location. It is decked out in gold and metal and looks wonderful in the background of photos or all by itself. Just because you have photographed Pont Alexandre III Bridge doesn’t mean you are done! Once you have shot this famous bridge in Paris, there are plenty more to explore!

We love the bridge in front of the Eiffel Tower, the bridge in front of the Louvre, and the bridge in front of Notre Dame. All of these bridges in Paris allow you to change up your photography and either photograph the bridge itself, the bridge in the background, or from the bridge over boats that are passing by along the Seine!

The Top Of The Arc De Triumph Offers The Best Sunset Views Of The Eiffel Tower

Did you know that you could go inside and on top of the Arc De Triumph? If you didn’t, don’t worry! Many people don’t know about this cool tip! That being said, the top of the Arc De Triumph is one of the best Paris photography locations out there and one you totally need to visit! The best time to visit for photography purposes is during sunset and it is totally the best place to watch the sunset over the Eiffel Tower.

Unlike other Paris photography locations where you are much higher than the Eiffel Tower, the Arc De Triumph allows you to photograph the tower from a mid-level location that is located near the tower. This is why it is one of our favorite spots! There is a small fee to go inside the Arc De Triumph, and it is also open one day a month for free. We accidentally went on a free day and the lines were so long! Tripods are not welcome so make sure to plan in advance!

The Moulin Rouge Is A Famous Can’t-Miss Paris Photo Location

If you are taking photos in Paris, you can’t miss some shots of the Moulin Rouge! The famous red building is located in the Montmartre District which means you can easily combine it with multiple other Montmartre locations listed here so you can hit them all on the same trip if you want! The Moulin Rouge is also easy to find and is located near Metro locations so you can quickly hop out and get some great photos.

When taking photos of the Moulin Rouge, of course, you can visit at any time of day, but we recommend sundown or nighttime! The best Paris photography of the Moulin Rouge is done when the famous red lights turn on and you can really bring them out when you visit at night or as the sun sets! There is a safe space in the middle of the road where you can take photos of the Moulin Rouge from a distance!

Avenue de Camoëns Perfectly Blends Buildings With The Eiffel Tower

Avenue de Camoëns is a wonderful Paris photography location, especially if you are photographing people. We love Avenue de Camoëns because not only do you get a view of the Eiffel Tower peeping over the buildings, you get all of the cute Parisian homes in the foreground. You can sit or stand on the cement railing and it is a wonderful spot for fashion, family, or fun photos!

If you are looking to just photograph the landscape, don’t pass up Avenue de Camoëns either! It makes for great vintage-style images when transformed into black and white and you will love how the Eiffel Tower ads to the image without taking away too much!

The Rainbow Homes Along Rue Crémieux Is One Of The More Charming Paris Photography Locations

Never heard of Rue Crémieux? Don’t worry! It is a new, up-and-coming Paris photography location, so if you want to shoot it before it gets too popular, now is the time to visit! Rue Crémieux is a street located on Paris’ eastern side near the banks of the Seine. It is relatively easy to find, once you have the name, and photographs best in daylight instead of at night time.

Rue Crémieux is essentially a bunch of cotton-candy-colored homes that are perfectly lined up in a row along the street. It can get busy because a lot of people shooting for Instagram flock to this Paris photography spot, so we recommend visiting during the early morning hours for soft light and to have the place all to yourself! It is such a cute slice of Paris and still relatively secret so you won’t want to miss it!

The Carousels At The Foot Of The Eiffel Tower Offer A Playful Photographic Perspective

If you are looking for a playful and whimsical take on Paris photography, consider shooting one of the carousels at the Eiffel Tower. There are two, one right in front of the tower on the right side of the Seine River, and one across the Seine in front of the Trocadero as mentioned above. You can’t miss them, and they are essential to photograph at any time of the day!

You can either go at dawn to photograph the sunny glow around the carousel or come at night to capture a long exposure shot as the Eiffel Tower gleams in the background and the carousel spins in the foreground. Depending on what angle you are looking to shoot, you can choose the closer or the further carousel to focus on at this Paris photography location. Each offers a unique perspective and you really can’t go wrong!

The Best Photo Spots in Paris: Photography Locations You Don’t Want to Miss

Find the best photo spots in Paris with this photography-focused travel guide. Some of the most Instagram-worthy places in Paris are on this list. These photography locations include Instagram-famous sights, aesthetic restaurants and photo-worthy hotels.

There are so many beautiful photo spots in Paris, it’s hard to capture it all with just one list. This collection of Instagrammable places in Paris will have you off to a great start. Many of these spots are iconic and I find myself returning to them each time I visit Paris.

In no particular order, here are some of my favorite places to take pictures in Paris. With each photo location I include a link to the address on Google Maps. Be sure to save this photographer’s guide to Paris for your next trip!

Best Paris Photo Spots: Sights & Landmarks

Pont de bir-hakeim.

This bridge offers unobstructed views of the Eiffel Tower overlooking the river. Pont de Bir-Hakeim is one of my favorite photo spots I went to on my recent 4-day trip to Paris. And there are some easy ways to get creative here and get a few different types of shots out of one location.

The photos you see here at Pont de Bir-Hakeim are from a sunrise photoshoot. The sun rises in the general direction of the Eiffel Tower. This made me able to capture the beautiful golden light breaking the horizon right alongside the tower.

The lower level of the bridge has a wide center walkway for pedestrians. It’s very spacious so there are no safety concerns when it comes to traffic. // 75015 Paris, France

Make sure you take advantage of all the angles available here. You’ll see that I have photos with the Eiffel Tower in the background. Also, I took some photos under the bridge walkway since I really like the architecture.

You can also step farther back when trying to get Eiffel Tower shots so you can use the arches of the bridge to frame your shot. I like how some of my photos have the bridge architecture framing the shot, along with the characteristics of the light fixtures peeking in.

Champ de Mars

The massive grassy, garden area extending in front of the Eiffel Tower like a football field is Champ de Mars. It’s hard to not find yourself here at least once, likely a few times. The Eiffel Tower seems to be a magnet when in Paris, it’s hard to stay away.

We all know a trip to Paris is not complete without photos of, and with, the Eiffel Tower. Champ de Mars is undoubtably one of the best Paris photo spots, but it does take a little patience and creativity.

Champ de Mars is always busy, for obvious reasons. If you walk down the center of the grass facing the Eiffel Tower straight on, you will be surrounded by people. To avoid the madness, I use this area to explore different angles. // 2 Allée Adrienne Lecouvreur, 75007 Paris, France

Don’t let the crowds deter you completely. There are many paths here to wander off on and find photo spots that are a bit more quiet. I knew I was going to get great shots in other spots that included the full length of the Eiffel Tower.

Therefore at Champ de Mars I wanted to be a bit more creative. You’ll notice my shots are from various angles, most of which only include portions of the Eiffel Tower.

It was fun taking photos here with a more natural and organic approach rather than feeling the need to get one specific shot in one specific spot. The Eiffel Tower is a beauty from all angles so you really can’t go wrong! Go with the flow in this area. I had no expectations and I love how my photos here came out.

Louvre Pyramid

The Louvre Museum is one of the most-visited places in Paris. In front of the Louvre stands the massive glass pyramid. Even if you are not planning to enter the museum, the exterior is a Paris photo spot you should visit.

Like the Eiffel Tower, expect crowds in this area nearly all the time. The good news is that the exterior of the Louvre also has a lot of open area so you can move around and try taking photos from different angles. // 75001 Paris, France

If you want to avoid the crowds and get the best light, early morning during sunrise is the best time. I wasn’t able to make it the Louvre in the morning. The photos you see here are from the middle of the day.

There were a lot of people around the Louvre pyramid, but I tried a few different things. By posing close to the pyramid I was able to get a good photo without massive crowds. Moving closer to the edge of the fountain allows you to use the pyramid itself to block the scenery around it.

If you want to visit the inside of the museum, I recommend to plan ahead to avoid the lines. Before your trip you can buy this entry ticket with skip-the-line access and a scheduled start time.

Posing in front of the Louvre pyramid, one of the best photo spots in Paris

Luxembourg Garden

I love a good garden! Luxembourg Garden sits in front of the palace and is perfectly manicured. The colorful array of flowers surrounding the grass makes it one of the most Instagrammable places in Paris.

The garden area facing the palace is so beautiful. They even have chairs and benches lining all of the walkways so visitors can hang out and enjoy the scenery. The property and garden area is huge, so there are many different photo spots to take advantage of. // 75006 Paris, France

A few of my favorite Paris photo spots are within Luxembourg Garden. You’ll see here two very different shots I took at the garden.

One shot features the palace in the background, along with the gorgeous flowers. The second shot is opposite of the first, where there are walkways with trees lining the edges. Depending on the time of the year, the trees may be full of color.

Sacre Coeur

This stunning basilica sits high on top of the Montmartre hill. Sacre Coeur overlooks the city of Paris and on a clear day it appears as if you can see endlessly into the distance. The view alone makes it one of the best photo spots in Paris.

Aside from the view, the basilica itself is photogenic. There is a grassy area out front of the church that makes for a great spot to watch the sunset. // 1 Parvis du Sacré-Cœur, 75018 Paris, France

Sacre Coeur is huge you can see it from other places besides just the front grass. Explore Montmartre and the perimeter of the church to get cool, unique shots from quiet side streets. If you want to learn more about Sacre Couer and the surrounding area, check out this guided tour.

View from Sacre Couer in Paris, France.

Le Mur Des Je T’Aime

The Love Wall in Montmartre is a popular sight amongst visitors. With ‘I love You’ written on the wall in 250 different languages, it also makes for a great photo spot in Paris.

Lovers flock here for the romantic sentiment, but art lovers have interest in the creation as well. I think it’s worth a stop for any traveller. The blue tile wall is a beautiful color next to the natural greenery within the park. // Square Jehan Rictus, Place des Abbesses, 75018 Paris, France

You can stand directly in front of the wall, but it will be you and a hundred other people. You can try coming early in the morning to avoid the crowd.

Otherwise, try shooting a photo from one of the park benches. You’ll see in my photo how I was able to avoid crowds of people my using the bushes to shield that line of sight. Yet you can still view the character of the wall above the plants.

Photo taken on park bench at the Love Wall in Montmartre, Paris. Best photo spots in Paris

Moulin Rouge

Moulin Rouge is a Parisian icon and one of the top photo spots in Paris. Snapping a picture of the bold red exterior is a must when you head to explore the Montmartre area of the city.

The streets are busy around Moulin Rouge. So if you are the type of person who likes to try to get a photo without any cars or people in the shot, this one may take some work. // 82 Boulevard de Clichy, 75018 Paris, France

You can come early in the morning to capture your Instagram-worthy shot of Moulin Rouge and have a better chance of avoiding crowds and traffic. Personally, I don’t even try to fight it when I want to snap a photo in a crazy busy spot like this. The chaos is all part of the area, so I’ve come around to embracing some places in its natural state.

To experience a show at Moulin Rouge you definitely need to plan and book in advance. Here you can check availability for a show at Moulin Rouge with champagne included. If you want to go all out, here you can find tickets to a show including dinner.

The exterior of Moulin Rouge in Paris is a Instagram-Worthy photo

Galeries Lafayette Rooftop

One of the best views and photo spots in Paris is completely free to access. The rooftop of Galeries Lafayette has a panoramic view with the Eiffel Tower in the distance.

The rooftop provides visitors with one of the most Instagram-worthy views of Paris. From the terrace you will be able to see a number of Paris’ most famous sights and monuments.

Additionally, Galeries Lafayette itself is worth a visit. The flagship store is located in the 9th arrondissement of Paris. It’s easy to get lost inside with the wide variety of fashion at your fingertips. // 40 Boulevard Haussmann, 75009 Paris, France

View from Galeries Lafayette rooftop terrace in Paris

The Trocadéro is one of the most popular photo spots in Paris. This is because it’s located directly across the Seine River from the Eiffel Tower. Assuming there are no crowds, the open area offers unobstructed views.

But experiencing no crowds at the Trocadéro is wishful thinking. It’s hard to visit this photo spot without there also being a bunch of other people. The sheer volume of foot traffic here makes it one of my less-favorite photo spots, but I understand if you want to see for yourself. // Place du Trocadéro et du 11 Novembre, 75016 Paris, France

Arrive early. You are not going to be the only person with this idea, but it will make the experience more tolerable. And don’t be afraid to explore the area for your own photo spots; don’t feel tied to the same spot everyone else is fighting for. The Eiffel Tower is beautiful from all angles!

Eiffel Tower view from the Trocadero, one of the best photo spots in Paris, France.

Saint Chapelle

This gothic style royal chapel is nothing short of magical. The stained glass windows alone are something I cannot help but continually drool over. The construction of Sainte Chapelle dates back to 1238—completely blows my mind. This church is magnificent and a must-see photo spot in Paris. // 8 Boulevard du Palais, 75001 Paris, France

I’m one of those people who loves to plan ahead to try and make all of my travel experiences as smooth as possible. If you’re like me, you can purchase a skip-the-line entry ticket to Sainte-Chapelle & Conciergerie here.

Photography at Saint Chapelle in Paris

Eiffel Tower Second Floor

We all know that the Eiffel Tower makes for one of the best photography locations in Paris, but don’t overlook the view the tower has of the city. You can visit the top of the Eiffel Tower for stunning panoramic views of Paris and some of its iconic sights.

I think that everyone should go to the top of the Eiffel Tower at least once. Personally, I went up the tower on my first trip to Paris but have not done it again on my other trips since. I think it’s a good, one-time experience. // Champ de Mars, 5 Avenue Anatole France, 75007 Paris, France

The lines to access the Eiffel Tower can be painfully long, as you can imagine. If you want to take photos from the top of the Eiffel Tower, I highly recommend purchasing a ticket in advance. This ticket gives you priority access to the second level of the Eiffel Tower . And then there is this ticket that gives you Eiffel Tower summit access via the elevator.

Best Paris Photo Spots: Restaurants

Le consulat restaurant – montmartre.

The street view of Le Consulat Restaurant in the Montmartre neighborhood has become a super Instagrammable place in Paris. I constantly see images from this Paris photo spot. I understand why—the color, the character, the Parisian charm. It’s all here.

I’ve never put much effort into getting an amazing shot here, I just snap a few photos as I walk by. It was worth adding to the list since I know it’s a spot some people seek. // 18 Rue Norvins, 75018 Paris, France

The Montmartre neighborhood as a whole is a great Paris photography location. Take time to thoroughly explore this area and you will uncover your own gorgeous photo spots. Check out this walking tour of Montmartre if you want to learn the history and uncover places the locals love.

Le Consulat Restaurant in Montmartre, Paris

I felt a bit hesitant to include a restaurant space as one of the best photo spots in Paris. Mostly because it makes me feel like I then need to include so many other beautiful Paris interiors.

For this post I felt there is a standout star interior that is easily one of the most Instagrammed places in Paris. This Paris photo list didn’t feel complete without including one of the most beautiful restaurants ever, Pink Mamma.

Pink Mamma has a menu featuring delicious Italian dishes, along with some of my favorite cocktails I had in Paris. The restaurant is located in the Pigalle neighborhood, very close to Moulin Rouge. Every inch of this space is so thoughtfully designed, my creativity was bursting just being in here. // 20bis Rue de Douai, 75009 Paris, France

There isn’t a corner of Pink Mamma that isn’t photogenic. If seating is available on the top (4th) story, I’d sit there. There is a ton of natural light spilling in from the ceiling and it’s plant heaven.

Le Vrai Paris

This French bistro is something I accidentally found when wandering through the Montmartre neighborhood one afternoon. As soon I you approach Le Vrai Paris, you’ll be stopped in your tracks.

The exterior of the restaurant is the definition of an Instagram-worthy place in Paris. Bundles of purple flowers decorate the facade making for a perfect backdrop. I cannot speak to the food, but I sat down outside for a drink and it was a lovely experience. // 33 Rue des Abbesses, 75018 Paris, France

Best Paris Photo Spots: Hotels

If you want to stay in a beautiful, photogenic hotel in Paris, look no further! Below are some Paris hotels with stunning interior design or killer views. I’m so inspired by my environment, so staying in pretty places is an aspect of travel that I like to treat myself with every now and then. These properties make for pretty photography locations in Paris.

  • HOTEL PROVIDENCE // This boutique hotel is decked out with rich color, intricate patterns and vintage touches. The property is in the 10th arrondissement of Paris and is small and intimate, with only 18 rooms. Click here to see photos and prices.
  • THE HOXTON PARIS // I’m a huge fan of Hoxton hotels in general. The design is always so thoughtful, hip and trendy. I haven’t stayed at the Paris Hoxton, but I spent a week at The Hoxton in London and it was the BEST. The Paris property looks just as gorgeous and their service is stellar. Click here to see photos and prices.
  • HOTEL BEAUMARCHAIS // I found Hotel Beaumarchais by chance when exploring Le Marais on foot and immediately fell in love. This property has a pretty, classic French vibe to it. I adore the exterior, all of the color accents, and the lovely wallpaper. Click here to see photos and prices.

Camera Gear Used for Paris Photos

Below I’m sharing all of the camera gear I had with me on my trip to Paris. These are my go-to photography items that I use on most of my trips.

  • CAMERA BODY: You won’t catch me traveling without my Sony camera. It’s my BFF and we are going 2.5 years strong together.
  • SONY 24-70mm F2.8 LENS: This is my favorite lens without a doubt. If I’m going on a trip and only carrying one lens, this will always be my first choice.
  • TRAVEL CAMERA BACKPACK: I’ve had this travel camera backpack for about a year now and it has changed travel for me. Having a solid backpack that is made specifically for travel photography is something I lagged on. Never turning back now!
  • PORTABLE EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE: I couldn’t live without this thing. It’s portable, durable, shock/drop/weather resistant—all of the things I need when I’m on the move and need to back up my photos.
  • PORTABLE CHARGER: I need one of these in my bag at all times since I’m constantly draining my phone battery while traveling. This is photography-related for me because I do shoot a lot of photo and video on my phone as well.
  • HIGH-QUALITY CAMERA STRAP: This is another purchase I drug my feet on for soooo long. I didn’t want to spend “a lot” of money on a camera strap, it didn’t seem like a priority. Well, I finally got this one and it has changed travel for me. Carrying my camera around for 8+ hours a day is now so much more tolerable and comfortable.

How to Photograph Paris

February 21, 2023   18 Comments »

Home » Blog » Destinations » Europe » France » How to Photograph Paris

I’ve been to Paris multiple times, and each time I find new inspiration. It’s one of my favorite cities to photograph, and I know I’m not alone. I’ve developed a few tricks on how to photograph Paris so that I can bring home unique photos of the most photographed Paris sites.

Before I share my tips, first you have to figure out what and where you want to photograph in Paris.

Table of Contents

Best Photo Spots in Paris

The easy answer here is just to walk down any street and you’ll find some great photo spots. But if you want to hit some of the popular sites as well as find some unique spots, here are some of my favorites I have found in my various trips to Paris.

Pere LaChais Cemetery

paris cemetery photography

Visiting a foreign cemetery may seem strange, but Pere LaChais Cemetery is more like a park; gorgeous landscaping, rolling hills, interesting tombstones, and famous people were put to rest there. Plus, I find cemeteries intriguing, they are one of my favorite things to photograph. I think a cemetery can tell you about a culture and history of an area. For this reason, I often seek out cemeteries to visit as I travel – I call it cemetery travel! Regardless, Pere LaChais is truly beautiful to photograph.

Sacre Coeur

sacre cour photography tips

It’s quite a climb if you choose to go up the steps, but it’s worth it. This is a beautiful church to photograph at all angles. Make sure you try different perspectives and keep in mind the rules of composition such as the rule of thirds that take your vacation pictures to the next level !

Montmartre Neighborhood

This artistic neighborhood is full of color and a gem to photograph. This is a great stop to make after you photograph Sacre Coeur, just wander the streets. Make sure you capture the details of the neighborhood

how to photograph paris neighborhoods

In all of the times I’ve been to Paris, I’ve never set foot inside the Louvre Museum! I always get stopped by all of the great photos there are to take outside around the gardens. Take a seat in the park by one of the large fountain pools and soak up Paris – it’s a great place to find unique shots.

paris photography

I.M. Pei’s controversial pyramid at the Louvre entrance will test your photography skills. It’s a super place to look for reflections, leading lines, and unique perspectives. It’s also a great place for night photography and a tripod.

louvre pyramid

A popular spot to photograph in Paris, but my favorite time to go there is at night when you can capture it in a different light and without the crowds. After the heartbreaking fire and the loss of the spire, it is being rebuilt. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has slowed restoration work. You aren’t allowed to go inside currently , but you can still photograph the grounds.

notre dame at night

Not only is it fun to photograph the old Art Noveau Metropolitan signs all over the city, it’s also fun to photograph the metro stations. The architecture in the station is always great to capture.

paris metro

Tip – If you are going to take images of people though, be sure to ask their permission.

Paris Chocolate Shops

Take a walk through the small Paris neighborhood of Saint Germain des Pres to photograph something really unique…and tasty…chocolate! This neighborhood is home to a number of famous chocolatiers. Stop in and photograph some of the best Paris chocolate shops and their creations. The best part of this photo assignment is you can taste chocolate along the way!

paris chocolates

Tip – make sure you ask permission to take photographs in the stores.

If you want to learn more about the chocolatiers, check out this Paris chocolate tour that will take you inside the best chocolate houses!

Pompidou Centre

I may have never been to the Louvre, but I do go inside the Pompidou Center. I love contemporary art, and there’s so much to photograph here. Plus, they say the best view of Paris is from the Pompidou Centre!

pompidou Centre photography

Arc de Triomphe

A beautiful building to photograph if you can get to it; it’s surrounded by lanes of busy traffic! To safely reach the monument you can follow the underground passageway on the Champs-Elysées that comes up at the base of the Arc de Triomphe.

3 Tips on How to Photograph Paris

1. get up early.

If you want to catch Paris at its best, get up early – really early. I was up before the sun to get to sunrise at Sacre Coeur and it was so worth it. There were no people, and the light was incredible. After the sunrise and photos of the city from high up at Sacre Coeur, I walked through the Montmartre neighborhood before anyone was awake. I was able to see the cafes open up, artists set up their canvases, and the residents wake up. It was a wonderful time to catch the character of this neighborhood – or any neighborhood in Paris!

paris morning photography

2. Play Metro Roulette

One of my favorite things to do in Paris is play metro roulette. This is when I ride a metro line for ways, get off randomly and then walk through neighborhoods on the outskirts of Paris. It’s a way to find unique parts of Paris that aren’t as frequently photographed.

3. Bring a Wide Angle Lens

It’s no secret that I love my wide angle lens . It’s an important lens to have in your arsenal when photographing Paris because a wide angle lens is super for capturing city streets and architecture. Very few cameras can get a complete shot of the iconic buildings of Paris while standing on a street corner – that’s where the wide angle comes in.

Best Eiffel Tower Picture Ideas

You might notice that I didn’t mention the Eiffel Tower above in the best photo spots in Paris. Instead, I decided to write about this iconic photography spot separately.

Focus on Things People Don’t Notice

One of my favorite days photographing Paris was when I decided to not focus on the tower, and instead focus on the people around me. Sometimes I like to focus on the things that go unnoticed or photographed – the ugly side of something beautiful. I was fascinated by the culture around the tower rather than the tower itself. Photography is about telling stories and as I looked around at all of the people and the men illegally selling the little tower trinkets, I realized that there was a story there.

In this Eiffel Tower photo documentary, I was able to capture the life of the illegal street vendors around the tower selling miniature versions of the iconic building. I was able to capture a different side of the Eiffel Tower – one people normally don’t photograph!

Will the Real Eiffel Tower Please Stand Up Photo Documentary

eiffel tower photography

Everyone around me was taking pictures of the Eiffel Tower , but I was distracted by the thousands of other Eiffel Towers and the touts carrying them. From the first moment I went to the Eiffel Tower, I seemed to be more fascinated by the culture around the tower rather than the tower itself.

There are illegal street vendors everywhere peddling their touristy trinkets; it’s a fact of travel. I’ve learned to ignore them and brush them off, but this time I decided to really try to look deeper at the tout culture through photography.

eiffel tower street vendors

Men of all ages (never women) were carrying mini Eiffel Towers around the grounds flashing the shiny objects appealing to the children while enticing them with their volume discounts. Much to the parent’s dismay, shiny objects seem to capture the interest of children, and therefore the question “Can I have one????” was overheard many times as I walked around the park near the Eiffel Tower.

street vendor paris

There were different selling techniques, some brought out a square cloth and placed it on the ground like a tablecloth and set up the shiny mini towers in an orderly fashion from big to small, and from silver to gold. Some simply had all of the mini towers on a big metal ‘ring’ and would dangle them around and gain attention by the sound of clinking cheap metal floating through the air. Some simply stood in one place and called out their volume price discounts. And some went directly up to people like door-to-door salesmen selling Encyclopedias.

I watched as kids walked away with their shiny new objects satiated for a few moments before wanting something else. I saw the mini towers break and kids cry not understanding that 1 Euro meant no guarantees and certainly no returns or exchanges.

paris street vendor

Finally, I watched as the mini tower vendors scatter in all different directions like a herd of elk being chased by a lion when the police descended upon the Trocadero.

Things You Can’t Photograph in Paris

I found out that one of the things you definitely can’t photograph in Paris – is cabaret shows! I wanted to experience that classic Paris cabaret culture and went to the Paradis Latin Cabaret Show . It was flashy, colorful, and fun – something I would normally like to photograph. But sadly, all photography at this Paris cabaret was off-limits!

Camera Gear for Photographing Paris

Carrying less travel photography gear has made me a better photographer. It makes me pay more attention to composition and working with the light I have, rather than all of the other bells and whistles. I carry a Sony mirrorless camera because it’s a little lighter if I’m going to be out photographing Paris all day.

You can see my normal photography gear and lenses I carry when I travel . And if you are going to be out walking around all day, a good camera bag is necessary. These are my favorite camera bags for travel .

Where to Stay in Paris

I love staying in holiday apartments when I’m in Paris. I found one that I love which is in a perfect location to get to many of the popular photography spots in Paris. This Paris holiday apartment is nestled in the heart of Paris near the Seine, Pompidou, Notre Dame, Louvre, cafes, shops, bars, and metro stops. You can learn more about this cute Paris studio apartment here .

Sherry, As always your pictures are amazing! The clouds are so dramatic and I like your unusual angles. I’m hoping to take a photography class when I get back home to better master settings on my camera 🙂

When are you going? It was lovely being back there without any major agenda – but to simply walk around and enjoy the city! Have a great trip!

I’m going in mid-November. It probably won’t be the nicest weather, but who cares–it’s Paris!

Just superb. I love the close-ups of the artist’s palette (so French with the little sign), the Pere Lachaise cemetery and the sharp angles of the familiar Parisian landmarks. As good as you find in any coffee table book on Paris…

By admin September 30, 2010 - 7:55 pm

Mark – thanks for the kind words! One day a coffee table book may be in my future!! 🙂

Great pics! Just wondering about your gear, how did you decide what lens(es) to bring with you?

For city shooting I like to take my wide angle lens (10 to 20) – it really is great to capture the scene – and it’s especially great for making the clouds take shape and practically pop out of the picture. It’s actually my new favorite lens! I also take my every day lens which is my best quality and is 17 to 55. Quite frankly though – on a day like that in Paris – where my main goal was photography – I took all 3 of my lenses. I’m used to carrying the equipment and I like to have the variety!

I’ve organized these Paris photography shots into location categories and listed them by landmarks, neighborhoods, and best city views. There should be a good mix of the icons as well as candid scenic shots. I have included any tips (both photography and general) I picked up along the way. At the end, you will find a map with all of the locations with their photos attached to help you identify them.

If you don’t have much time, this ultimate guide to one day in Paris will help you hit the highlights. If you have extra time, Disneyland Paris is a great location for more photography. And if you are a curious traveler like me, these Paris nicknames will fascinate you!

Let’s get to it! 🙂

Of course, everyone wants the traditional iconic shot of Notre Dame from the front. I actually got this photo back in 2010, but the weather wasn’t the best and mysteriously, my Notre Dame photos are the only ones I’m missing from that trip. My SD card ate them corrupted. So, I made sure I got them again this trip. 😉

This time around, I also shot the side view from across the Seine River.

The cathedral also makes for a great dramatic shot at dusk.

And for the encore, the side view at night was a win with a bonus of light trails from a (long-awaited) passing boat!

TIP: If you want both the back of Notre Dame at dusk and light trails and don’t have a lot of time, you can get both from the bridge location. Boats will come through around dusk, but they get fewer and farther between the later it gets. This is also true from the side view location and I had to wait a while for a boat.

The Sacré-Cœur is always on the “must-see, must-get” list. There are so many different angles from which you can photograph it. In addition to the traditional iconic front side, walk all the way around, and find another aspect of the Sacré-Cœur that you like!

I fell in love with this red door I found on the side of the Sacré-Cœur. If you haven’t figured it out before now by reading my blog or following my Instagram , I love cool doors!

TIP:  The Sacré-Cœur isn’t the easiest landmark to photograph especially without people. So rather than get it up close with a lot of people in the foreground, try moving farther back and getting the carousel, some of the flowers and greenery in the photo. You will still get people in it but they will be small and won’t overtake so much of the picture. This is also the perfect place for a good selfie stick !

No trip to Paris is complete without wandering around the famous Montmartre neighborhood. While there’s an endless amount of things to photograph here, I hit the highlights such as Moulin Rouge . Although technically not a part of Montmartre, it sits at the base of the neighborhood and is closely associated with it.

Don’t forget to take a shot from inside the Passage Richelieu . It frames everything up so well!

TIPS: Get your tickets in advance for the Louvre and skip the long lines. Also, it’s open at night until 9:45 pm on Wednesdays and Fridays. This is a great time to visit and then you can go outside for a night photo shoot!

In 2015, the Pont des Arts  stopped playing host as home to “Love Lock Bridge”. Because one of the mesh panels of the bridge collapsed due to the weight of the locks (one panel supposedly weighed 1500 lbs alone), Paris made the decision to remove all of the locks and replace the panels.

When I was taking photos from the bridge, I noticed these locks secured to one of the light poles on the bridge.

Likewise, I noticed these new locks on the Passerelle Léopold-Sédar-Senghor (formerly Solferino Bridge). Is this one on its way to becoming the new “Love Lock Bridge”? I’m not sure. There are supposedly 13 bridges that now contain love locks, but this was the only one I personally saw.

There are many cool secret places around Paris. While the Covered Passages aren’t totally a secret, they certainly aren’t the most iconic either. I particularly loved this shot of the Passage Jouffroy .

Capturing the beauty of Paris’ Statue of Liberty at night is a must especially if you are American. Remember, the Statue of Liberty was given to the United States by France!

TIP: Looking straight up at the statue is a unique take, but you can also capture it much further back with the Eiffel Tower in the background too.

The Palace of Versailles was one of the top things I wanted to see on my second trip to Paris. I remember desperately wanting to see it on my first trip in 2010, but with only 3 days there wasn’t enough time. I made sure I saw it this trip!

The most famous part of the Palace? The Hall of Mirrors , of course! I managed to pull off my goal of getting photos without anyone in them. This isn’t easy to do and there’s really only one way to accomplish it…

TIPS: Buy tickets way in advance of your trip for the opening 9:00 am hour. Get there at least 30 minutes prior (45 minutes is ideal). I arrived around 8:30 and was still second in line. As soon as they open and your ticket is scanned, go straight to the Hall of Mirrors. Everyone else will collect their audio guides (I’m not a fan of these personally) and then will walk through the Palace per the audio guide. Confirming with employees that I could backtrack to see the parts of the Palace I was about to zoom past, I made a fast beeline for the Hall of Mirrors and had about 5 minutes or less to grab photos without anyone else present! Thanks to Amanda from KevinandAmanda for this tip!

TIPS:   Tickets to the top go on sale 6-8 weeks in advance and most of the time slots sell out the same day. I got ours the day they went on sale (7 weeks prior to our trip) and still didn’t get my first choice of times. I recommend going late afternoon (which was a 5:30 pm entrance time for us in July) when the lighting is still great. Then you can go down for a picnic with the Eiffel Tower in view and then head over to the Trocadero for sunset photos!

Beautiful pictures and a great guide for getting them!

Thanks! And thank you for reading! 🙂

Absolutely GORGEOUS pictures! You made me feel like I was right there. Paris is a stunning city, and you captured it completely.

Hi Juliann-Thank you so much! I’m glad to hear that from someone who has been. Paris is definitely gorgeous! Thanks for reading! 🙂

I love your dusk shot of Notre Dame and your use of colors to capture the door. Great work all around. The map is helpful too. I have been to Paris a couple of times and knew all of the monuments but none of the bridges.

Hi Ed-Thanks! I’m glad you like it and find it helpful. I have this thing with bridges…I love finding cool ones! Thanks for reading! 🙂

Just beautiful! And really making me realize how many iconic photo spots Paris has!! I’ve been to nearly all of these (my all time favorite is the Sacre Coeur), but next time I’d love to see the covered passages and La Maison Rose. I have to say I don’t really like Paris… I didn’t have great experiences either time I went. However, this post is really making me reconsider and maybe giving it a third shot 😉

Hi Sarah-Interesting you should say that…I didn’t really love Paris on my first time there. I didn’t have much time, the weather was awful, we didn’t get to see a lot and all I had been told was that everyone would be rude. Now all of that was true and did happen except that no one was rude. Everyone was so nice. On my 2nd trip this summer, all of that changed. I was there for a week, had beautiful weather the entire time, saw most everything and thoroughly enjoyed it. So much so I want to go back at different times of the year. So all that to say, third time might be your charm! 😉 Thanks for reading! 🙂

Still in love with your eiffel tower photos, how all those leading lines point towards that iconic structure. Still cannot get over the framed photo of the Lourve Pyramid, and then you truly shocked me about the piece in the middle of the Pyramid. I have yet to go to France and TRULY tour France properly, so will have to try out some of these spots 😉

Hi Janiel-That was like me after my first trip to Paris. I didn’t get to explore it properly. Now that I have it just leaves me wanting more. I want to go back again and again and again! Thank you for your sweet compliments. I hope you get to go soon! Thanks for reading! 🙂

Wow these photos are amazing Heather! Especially the Notre Darm dusk one! They make me want to go back so bad

Hi Leah-Thank you so much! I was so excited about a lot of them, but the Notre Dame photo at dusk was a biggie for me. I hope you get to go back soon and thanks for reading! 🙂

Love your Paris photos, girl! I love the city so much that I want to go back again next year. The last time we were there, we only spent 3-4 days and only went to half of the places you listed. Also, the weather was unusually HOT for May. We need to go back again, maybe in April so we could be out and not suffer from the heat 😛

Hey Cat-Thanks!! That was how my first trip to Paris was 8 years ago…3 days, not even half the places I listed and awful weather. I was there in July and it was pretty hot. April sounds like a great month to go. Since both times I went in July, I want to go in winter maybe for Christmas. But seriously, anytime I get the chance I’m down. Paris is awesome! Thanks for reading! 🙂

Wonderful photos! You have a great eye for detail, the composition, and the lighting! My favorites are the cathedral at the dusk, the street shot with La Maison Rose and the Galeries Lafayette Haussman.

And yes, of course, your photos made me want to go back to Paris again!

Hi Milijana-Aw, thank you! I really appreciate that because I get frustrated with myself a lot. I’m very Type A and my biggest critic! Glad to know your favorites…the Galeries Lafayette is amazing isn’t it? Wish our malls at home looked like that! Haha! Thanks for reading! 🙂

I’ve only been to Paris for ONE day over ten years ago! I think it’s about damn time I get back there too haha. I’ve heard the vegan food scene is unbelievable. Also, I kick my younger self for not taking good pictures. Oh, to have the capability to go back and take good pictures of the places I’ve been.

Girl, you have to get there SOON! I love Paris will there’s still so much I want to explore so let me know if you want to go, I’m always game! And for. real. I would give anything to be able to go back in time to get good photos of places from years ago. My first time to Paris was 8 years ago and I only had 3 days. The weather was awful so I’m thankful I have that as an excuse but if we’re being real I wasn’t on my photography game back then (and still working every day to up my current game)! Thanks for reading! 🙂

The Galeries Lafayette Haussman would be my first stop, simply because it looks so grand and I never heard of it. Next would be Palais Garnier for the same reason – talk about opulent! The Auditorium looks pretty elegant, too.

I often thought certain modern architecture fits in well with older buildings and neighborhoods. Sadly, I think the Louvre does not work well at all in this case. Iconic indeed, but it already looks a bit outdated. What do you think?

Hi Jerry and Fiona-Hmm…what part of the Louvre specifically? The pyramid? Never have thought about it. It’s so iconic one could argue it could never be outdated, but I guess I might could see how the pyramid might be. The building itself is beautiful. Have you seen it in person? To me, it’s just the iconic Louvre and I love photographing it especially at night! Thanks for reading! )

I should have specified the glass pyramid. I cannot help but think of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when I see glass pyramids. Modern architecture often fits in well alongside older styles. Glass pyramids?…..

Hi Jerry and Fiona-Haha! I guessed right then…I can see the glass pyramid for sure! 🙂

This is so useful! I wish I had these tips for every city we visit! I just love Paris. We’ve been twice but have still missed many of these beautiful shots. I just love Sacre Coeur with the carrosel, the view of the Louvre pyramid through the passage Richelieu, and how on earth did you get a photo of the Hall of Mirrors with no one in it??!!

Hi Joanne-I’m so happy to know you find my guide useful! Glad to know I’m on the right track. I love Paris too and this was my second trip to Paris and I was with someone who had been many times so that helped with photo locations. Ha…so the Hall of Mirrors. Get there really early (30-45 minutes before it opens) so you’re first or second in line. When it opens, don’t stop for anything like the audioguides and don’t go in order (don’t pass go, don’t collect $200, LOL). Make a beeline straight for the Hall of Mirrors. I was the first one there and had about 5 min before anyone caught up to me. I made sure I could backtrack but even if I couldn’t have, I wanted those photos and I still would have gone straight there. Hope that helps and thanks for reading! 🙂

I love your photos! And I can’t wait for the end of the year, when I’ll return to Paris. My boyfriend is from Paris, but every time we visit we see family and friends, and we have very little time for me to go exploring. However, this winter will have some days for being a tourist.

His grandfather gave me lovely book, which I want to recommend you: Le paris des curieux, by Michel Dansel. I think you’ll like it and find it inspirational for your photos on your next visit. 🙂

Hi Mirela-Thank you, I’m so glad you like my photos and I’m glad you are getting some time to explore Paris for yourself, it’s so pretty! I have noted the book so I can take a look-thanks for the rec and thanks for reading! 🙂

What fun memories we just relived through your photos. We sat right there at La Maison Rose several years ago. And you are right, the Montmartre neighborhood is a place one can spend days wandering around.

Hi Michael-Glad you liked it and it brought up great memories for you. Thanks for reading! 🙂

How have I never seen the Salon de Lune (and Soleil for that matter)! So very beautiful and unexpected. Your ceilings reminded me of all the time I spent taking similar pics in Catherine’s Palace in St Petersburg, while trying not to slip over doing a backflip, as my shoes were covered to protect the parquet floors. But seriously, what a beautiful collection of pictures. I love Notre Dame from the side, and that pic with the light from the boat is gorgeous. I haven’t been to Paris for way too long, and I’m certainly inspired to return and get better photographic memories after reading your guide.

Hi Bernie-I’m so glad you like the ceiling pics…I LOVE to look up because I find so many cool shots that way. St Petersburg definitely (as you mentioned) has many buildings to look up in. I loved it there too! I hope you get to go back to Paris soon-it’s so beautiful. Thanks for reading! 🙂

Stunning photos!! Love the tips here, and you have the images to prove it 😉 I especially liked the shots from the top of the Arc de Triomf (I wish I’d gone up!) and from the Passage Richelieu… gorgeous! You really brought out the beauty of a beautiful city!

Hi Erica-Thanks girl, glad you liked them! Don’t you hate when you see photos of places you wish you had gone up? I’ve made that mistake so many times. I’m now very aware and try to go to the top of everything! Haha! Thanks for reading! 🙂

The dusk photos look amazing! I have never specifically tried to time being at a certain spot for the lighting yet, but now that I’ve been to Paris a couple times, the next time I go I’ll make some specific attempts to do just that. I especially appreciated your tip about getting a shot of the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles without people – that’s a great idea!

Hi Cynthia-So glad you find my guide helpful. Lighting is everything I think! And yes, the Hall of Mirrors tip is priceless. My friend gave me that tip and it was amazing to not only get those photos but just be in the Hall of Mirrors by myself! Thanks for reading! 🙂

I’ve been to Paris so many time but you mentioned a few places I still have yet to see. That Statue of Liberty replica is on my list… too funny! Also, I just realized I’ve never seen the back view of the Notre Dame.

Hi Carmen, I think Paris is one of those places you can go a million times and STILL not see everything. I lived in LA for 4 years and there are still things I haven’t heard of much less seen and Paris is the same way! You have to see the Statue of Liberty!! Thanks for reading! 🙂

Heather, I thoroughly enjoyed your pictures of Paris — that you for sharing. It’s been too many years since I visited there, and you are certainly making me yearn for another trip!. Your entire set of images is stunning, but I particularly enjoyed seeing the Chagall ceiling in the Palais Garnier. I love the Phantom of the Opera — and I would love to take that tour.

Hi Ann-Thank you! Yes, that Phantom of the Opera tour is amazing!! If you ever get back to Paris, definitely do that tour! I’m a huge Phantom fan too! Thanks for reading! 🙂

Great Paris views can be had at the top of Notre Dame as well. One of the most unknown 360-degree view of Paris is at the top of the Pantheon. Galeries Lafayette and Printemps have gorgeous skyline views as well. I don’t recommend Sacre Couer for sunrise – the steps are full of broken bottles every morning and it isn’t fun to try to navigate that while looking for a photo spot. Just some of my suggestions!

Hi Andi-Nope, broken bottles are definitely not fun. Those are great suggestions for my next trip, thank you and thanks for reading! 🙂

Beautiful photos! Paris is definitely on our list! I can’t wait to photograph everything in the city 🙂

Hi Brianna-Thank you! I hope you enjoy Paris, it’s gorgeous. Thanks for reading! 🙂

Paris Photography at 3 Best Photo Spots that Photographers Go

Paris Photography

Book photoshoot – end of article

Eventually, you are coming to Paris! Wanna know where the pros take authentic street Paris photography for Instagram influencers and sometimes fashion look books? As a  fashion photographer  based in Paris, I would love to share the 3 best spots you must know while planning your trip to Paris.

You are going to discover a gem located in Paris that photographers don’t usually share but go all the time for different kinds of typical Parisian street style look. Parisian book stand, Bridge and river Seine are going to be your amazing backdrops. And they are very CLOSE TO EACH OTHER .

All about Paris Photography Spots

3 Best Paris Travel Photography Spots

1. pont neuf.

Pont Neuf (New Bridge) is the oldest standing stone bridge across the river Seine in Paris. It is on the west side of Île de la Cité (island), where was the heart of the city during the medieval period. And no surprise, it is highly recommended by locals for people who travel to Paris.

Photo composition brainstorm:

  • Walking on the bridge.
  • Stand on the stone bench and have the Seine in the background.
  • Sunset pic at the beginning of the bridge.

2. Parisian Book Stalls (Bouquinistes)

The Bouquinistes are the Seine riverside booksellers in Paris. They usually have green painted boxes/stands and sell used and antiquarian books and etc. You can always find unique pieces there and it is such a joy to walk next to the Seine while checking interesting things. It is one of the iconic street style looks in Paris that many people LOVE!

In order to take a less possed picture, or say more natural Paris travel photo. You can let the model explore the place as if they not getting photos taken. Here are some ideas you can try.

  • Passing by bouquinistes
  • Stopping at the bookstall and check drawings
  • Sit on the stone wall next to the bouquinistes

3. The Seine Riverside

There are countless places to take riverside photos in Paris. But it depends on the time you go and the surroundings of the bank, the results of the photos can have big differences. This riverside I recommend here is really good for sunset shooting, the sun would hit the riverside softly and your skin and create a very dreamy look. And you can also capture the golden sparkles shining on the river too. Just SO beautiful!

I have illustrated exactly how to get down to this part of the river bank. For details please kindly check the downloadable map I carefully designed for you.

  • Sit at riverside
  • Walking next to the riverside
  • Enjoy your moment

*Kind Reminder: These Paris photo spots are suitable for people who are looking for less touristic, more authentic and local looking places in Paris for their photos.

4. Transportation

  • Take metro line 7 and get out from PONT NEUF station.
  • For bus: #21, #27, #65, #89: get off at stop < Pont Neuf – Quai du Louvre >

I will gather more Paris travel tips, exclusive events, unique photo shooting and so much more in upcoming blog posts. Sign up for our newsletter to get fast notice.

An American living in Paris, my style is natural and fun! I love chatting with customers throughout the shoot to put them at ease and keep them laughing. I am happy to give lots of guidance on posing so you can look natural as well. Also, as a woman, I feel I pay extra attention to the details that other women may worry about as well, such as hair, clothing, and makeup malfunctions. It's my job to make you forget the camera is even there and make you look your best!

paris travel photography

I call my style "wedding photojournalism." I like to see people's happy faces in those moments when they forget about everything - including me - as they look into each other's eyes, just like the moment when they first fell in love with each other. I have awards in The Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA), Fearless Photographers and The International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers (ISPWP). I am originally from Russia, and now live in Paris.

paris travel photography

I’m going to ask you to get up early, so you better believe I’ll be caffeinated! It’ll be worth it when you show up to greet the sun in some of the most beautiful places in the world! Just be ready for a great time and laughter with a fresh side of booty wiggles! I may even ask you to run (in heels!!) or twirl until you collapse in a dizzy giggle fest! We’re going to make this one of the highlights of your trip!! Because it’s your dream vacation, and while every moment better be amazing, our session is where we make the memories you'll cherish forever!

paris travel photography

My photography style is candid and elegant at the same time. I love to capture the real emotions and the laugh. A long time ago I was working as a journalist, and still write sometimes for my pleasure. My second passion is weddings. I have a lot of pleasure spending all day with a bride and groom, shooting photos and video. I love to see happy people and I do everything in my life with a lot of happiness. Smiling is the best way to discover the world.

paris travel photography

I am native Parisian, full-time professional photographer living in Paris and taking the most of it. My approach and end goal is to tell your unique story, to provide you with a beautiful, timeless set of photographs that will express real feel and emotion each and every time you look through them. I always keep an eye on details, anticipating candid moments, and capturing iconic shots. My photos are bright, colorful, with a soft feel, and full of love. Mindset "if it's not now, then when ?" and a quote from Paul Smith "You can find inspiration in anything, and if you can't...look again."

paris travel photography

My aesthetic can be summed up in three words: simple, natural and luminous. In fact, my style is very close to reporting, where the most important aspect is to capture the moment. I will guide you to make you comfortable to create shots that are both delicate and full of spontaneity.

paris travel photography

I am a French photographer who's obsessed with travel and exploring my own city. I love giving a little vintage look to my portraits taken in this beautiful city, while keeping my photos vibrant and light! I am a travel photographer and photographed many different places and countries but when I am home, I love to meet new people and show them my favorite hidden spots.

paris travel photography

I love working with couples, families, and solo travelers! I know your kids or husband were dragged to this photoshoot, so I will help keep them entertained so you can get great photos! Let's create beautiful memories to help you remember your vacation for a lifetime!

paris travel photography

I was born in Paris, but my parents are both from Buenos Aires, so I grew up between two parts of the ocean. I'm not only a photographer, I am also a visual artist. I hang bananas, I make experimental movies, and I make my own paper.

paris travel photography

I have been documenting love for 15 years. I love airy and bright tones and can describe my style as elegant, sophisticated, and romantic photo reportage. I’m combining an artistic view with a documentary style: in this way, I’m able to catch real emotions, smiles, and elegant details. I can help with poses and I try to do my best so that you feel comfortable in front of the camera. I have been featured in blogs like Style Me Pretty, Bridal Musings, and Magnolia Rouge.

paris travel photography

My name is Elena, and photography isn't just my passion; it's my pleasure, my favorite pastime, and my dream job! As a Parisian photographer who specializes in capturing couples in the heart of Paris, my photography style is deeply influenced by the timeless charm, elegance, and romance of the city itself.

JE M'APELLE FRAN!

I started the Paris Photographer in 2013. It wasn’t long before my passion for divine Parisian photography and desire to show Paris in a unique way, led me to become one of the most wanted artists in town. And luckily, I was blessed to also to work with some amazing clients.

This success, for which I am deeply grateful, has also attracted talented artists wishing to join the Paris Photographer team. I am excited to have had the opportunity to handpick Parisian photographers that share my artistic vision and desire to make people happy. We are now 7 photographers in The Paris Photographer team.

Our goal is to create timeless memories of your Parisian celebration, whether it is an engagement, a wedding, honeymoon or anniversary or even a birthday or a just for fun event. Let's create magic together!

"everything about The Paris Photographer was a 5 star experience."

For an American embarking on his first trip to Paris, everything about The Paris Photographer was a 5 star experience – from helping plan where the best spot for a photo would be, to capturing the proposal itself, to walking around the gardens with us and creating amazing moments for us to share with family and friends back home. Our photographer, Daniel, was fun and engaging, really adding a unique specialness of the day.

Olympic flame for Olympic Games Paris 2024 lit in spectacular ceremony

Greek actress Mary Mina, playing the role of the High Priestess, holds the torch during the flame lighting ceremony for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics at Ancient Olympia

The Olympic flame for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 burst into life today (Tuesday, 16 April) during a special ceremony at the archaeological site of Olympia—the birthplace of the ancient Olympic Games.

During a ritual that links the modern Olympic Games to its ancient origins, the Olympic flame was lit in front of the ruins of the temple of Hera by an actress playing the part of the high priestess.

Several important dignitaries including IOC President Thomas Bach and Paris 2024 President Tony Estanguet were in attendance for the event, which marked the start of the flame's journey from Greece to Paris, where it will arrive on 26 July for the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

Before the lighting of the Olympic flame took place, president Estanguet spoke of Paris 2024's responsibility to nurture the Olympic flame:

"Our role as organisers is to do everything we can to continue to nurture and grow this flame, in our country and around the world. One hundred years after the last summer Games in our country, the people of France will have the immense honour and pleasure of hosting this magnificent 33 rd Olympiad of the modern Games."

President Estanguet, who won three Olympic gold medals in canoe slalom, added:

"In line with the International Olympic Committee's Agenda 2020, we are proud that the Paris 2024 Games will not only be spectacular, but also more environmentally responsible, in order to meet the challenge of the century: climate change.

"Together, we're going to organise some great Games, and it all starts today, with the launch of the Olympic Torch Relay, which will cross the whole of France, from Marseille to Paris!"

President Bach then took to the stage to deliver his speech, where he stressed that the Olympic Games can bring the world together through peaceful competition.

"In ancient times, the Olympic Games brought together the Greek city states, even – and in particular – during times of wars and conflict. Today, the Olympic Games are the only event that brings the entire world together in peaceful competition. Then as now, the Olympic athletes send this powerful message: yes, it is possible to compete fiercely against each other and at the same time live peacefully together under one roof. The athletes will shine in their sport and show us what greatness humans are capable of with all their excellence, determination and resilience.

"The Olympic flame that we are lighting today symbolises this hope for a better future. The Olympic flame will carry this Olympic spirit from here, our ancient roots, through all of France and to Paris – making the City of Light shine even brighter.

"The Olympic flame will shine over the first Olympic Games inspired by our Olympic Agenda reforms from start to finish. These Olympic Games will be younger, more inclusive, more urban, more sustainable. These will be the very first Olympic Games with full gender parity because the IOC allocated exactly 50 per cent of the quota places to female and male athletes."

The Olympic flame was then brought forward by Greek actress Mary Mina, playing the role of High Priestess, who passed it to the first torchbearer of the Olympic Torch Relay: Greek athlete Stefanos Ntouskos , who won gold in the men's single sculls at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 in 2021.

After receiving the flame, Ntouskos carried the flame to the monument to Pierre de Coubertin, which holds the heart of the father of the modern Olympic movement.

Ntouskos then passed the flame to the second torchbearer of the relay, three-time Olympic medallist Laure Manaudou of France.

After a short run, Manaudou was met by the third torchbearer of the ceremony: Margaritis Schinas , vice-president of the European Commission.

The Olympic flame will now embark upon an 11-day relay throughout Greece that will see more than 550 torchbearers carry the flame, with the final destination being the Panathenaic Stadium for the handover ceremony.

When is the Olympic flame handover ceremony?

The Olympic flame will arrive in Athens ahead of the handover ceremony to the Paris 2024 organising committee at the Panathenaic Stadium on Friday 26 April, with the event getting underway at 18:30 CEST.

Following the ceremony, the Olympic flame will spend the night at the French Embassy in Athens before boarding the Belem (a famous three-masted ship that first launched in 1896) the following day to head for Marseille, France, where it will arrive to great fanfare on 8 May.

Where can I watch the Olympic flame handover ceremony?

The Olympic flame handover ceremony will take place on 26 April at 18:30 CEST and you can watch every moment live on Olympics.com .

The four 360-degree dual-spinner wheels and contoured pull handle allow you to glide through the airport with this carry-on. You can also stack it on another suitcase using the trolley sleeve.

One of this spinner's standout features is the WetPak pocket, which separates wet items such as bathing suits from the rest of your belongings. There are two other pockets inside as well, plus three spacious exterior pockets. As you pack your suitcase, the brand's Smart Fix Buckles are designed to keep the tie-down straps conveniently out of your way.
