Description

This picturesque trek in the Annapurna region of Nepal takes us past terraced slopes, paddy fields, and through rhododendron forests, thickly covered in moss. Rhododendron trees can be seen blooming in spring, around March-April.

The authentic villages we experience along the trek, including the traditional Gurung village of Ghandruk, provide a taste of the culture and lifestyle of ethnic people like Gurungs and Magars.

The destination and highest point of this trek is Poon Hill (3,210m), which we climb before sunrise to experience spectacular panoramic views of the snow capped mountains of the Himalayas. This viewpoint truly is a photographer’s paradise, and weather permitting, the mountains we see include Annapurna South, Annapurna I, II, III, and IV, Dhaulagiri, Lamjung Himal, Gangapurna, and Manaslu.

We end the trek at the charming and peaceful Little Paradise teahouse, beautifully located on a ridge between two mountains.

Additional information.

This is ADVENTURE travel, and many of the trip destinations in this site are remote areas, within under developed countries, where events are less predictable than is usually the case in. The unexpected is the norm in these areas and, despite painstaking planning and organization, our adventure trips can never be taken for granted like regular trips. Many of the places that we visit do not have the same quality of emergency health and safety services that you are used to in the developed world. Internal flights can be canceled, road transport is generally uncomfortable and unreliable, and hotels often do not approach the standards of the West.

IF YOU ARE NOT PREPARED FOR THIS, YOU SHOULD NOT TRAVEL WITH US. This unpredictability also means that the itineraries that we put forward for each of our trips should be seen as statements of intent, rather than as contractual obligations. A variety of factors, including weather, transport difficulties and political instability, might dictate that we change any itinerary. The trip leader will make any changes that are necessary, after consultation with the group. Only rarely will such changes be significant, and we will always do everything within our powers to minimize the effects of the enforced changes. We cannot be held responsible for the results of changes or delays, irrespective of how they are caused.

Packing List

Below is a list of items to pack for your trekking trip to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience:

Footwear:  Comfortable hiking boots that have been tried and tested before your trek starts, and spare boot laces. Also, 2-3 pairs of good quality walking socks made from Merino wool, which are odourless.

Trekking Gear:  Walking or hiking poles, waterproof jacket, fleece jacket, down jacket (in winter or for higher altitudes), 2-3 hiking shirts, thin & warm hiking trousers, thermal underwear, warm hat, warm gloves, neck warmer, sun hat, sunglasses, and 2 refillable water bottles (each at least 1 litre).

Carrying:  Large rucksack (55 to 70 litres), waterproofed rucksack cover, day bag (25 to 40 litres) in case you booked a helper.

Resting & Sleeping : Fleece sweater, sweatpants or other comfortable trousers, sneakers to wear in guesthouses, bath slippers, sleeping bag (temperature certification depends on the trekking route), sleeping liner (even if the lodges provide warm blankets, they don’t change the bed liners every day, so your own liner is a comfortable and hygienic alternative), warm pyjamas or long underwear, earplugs for the nights, headlamp or torch.

Body Care:  High factor sun cream, lip balm preferably with sunblock, toiletries, travel towel – fast drying, toilet paper, disinfectant for hands, and whatever you need for your personal well-being.

Accommodation : Along the trek, guesthouses offer unpretentious but hygienic lodgings, usually featuring double or triple bedrooms, and frequently with their own eateries. Bedrooms are generally not heated and can get chilly during the night, so although warm blankets are provided, it’s suggested to carry your own sleeping bag or bed liner. In certain tea houses, bedrooms might lack electrical sockets, but electronic gadgets can be charged in the communal area for a nominal fee.

Food and Drinks:  At the guesthouse, the menu boasts an extensive selection of Nepalese and international dishes, and it is recommended to try the local cuisine. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes are available in abundance, with the must-try delicacy being Dal Bhat. It is advised to bring a refillable water bottle, as water is sold from large tanks to reduce the use of plastic in the mountains. The cost of these items may be higher than in Kathmandu or Pokhara.
