Amazon Credit Cards and Points

Making the most of every dollar you spend is another Amazon Prime perk. Prime members have exclusive access to certain credit cards: The  Amazon Prime Store Card and Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card .

The Visa card gives you five percent back on Amazon and Whole Foods purchases and two percent back at restaurants, gas stations, and drugstores, with no annual fee. You can redeem your points for Amazon purchases, and the card also has travel benefits like no foreign transaction fees, baggage delay insurance, and travel accident insurance.

The Store card lets Prime members receive five percent back on Amazon and Whole Foods purchases, has no annual fee, and gives access to promotional financing.

Some credit card companies let you “ Shop With Points ” on Amazon, though you won’t get Prime benefits.

Food Delivery: Amazon Fresh

If you want to schedule a delivery at a vacation rental or to have items waiting upon your return home, check out Amazon’s grocery delivery service, Amazon Fresh . Amazon Prime members have access to free delivery or pickup above a certain order minimum. Similarly, customers can place an order for delivery or pickup at nearby Whole Foods locations. Discounted Memberships: Student and Family

If you’re ready to join Amazon Prime, look into some of the discounted membership services first to see if you qualify. Right now Amazon offers Amazon Family and Prime Student at discounted rates.

Amazon Family costs $119 per year with a free 30-day trial, but lets you create a household—meaning multiple users—for shared family benefits. Amazon Family also comes with discounted prices on Amazon Kids+ (previously FreeTime Unlimited)—a subscription service for kids’ entertainment—as well as special discounts on household products and diapers.

Prime Student comes at the discounted rate of $59 per year with a six-month free trial to start and a special student page filtered for college-specific needs.

The Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card is technically a cash-back credit card , but the redemption options are actually broader than you might expect.

Besides getting cash back — available in the form of a statement credit or as an electronic deposit into an eligible U.S. checking or savings account — you can redeem your rewards to pay for all or part of your Amazon purchases, for gift cards or for travel through Chase's travel portal .

In fact, all rewards are technically earned as points no matter how you end up redeeming them. No matter what you do, you'll receive a flat value of one cent for each point when you redeem them.

Using Amazon rewards for travel

Because your points are always worth one cent each, there's no advantage to redeeming them for travel. You won't get a boost as you would with the Chase Sapphire Reserve, where points are worth 1.5 cents each when redeemed for travel on the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal. And there are no travel partners to which you can transfer your points in search of even more value.

However, flexibility is what makes the option of travel redemptions valuable for some.

Earning on the Amazon card

The Prime Rewards Visa does offer some high-value rewards for category spending, so this card still may be worth it to some consumers, particularly if you shop frequently at either Amazon or Whole Foods. You'll earn:

• 5% cash back at Amazon.com and Whole Foods Market
• 2% back at restaurants, gas stations and drugstores
• 1% back on all other purchases

There are a number of no-annual-fee cards that offer more valuable rewards on non-bonus spending including:

• Citi® Double Cash Card: 2% cash back on all purchases (1% when you make purchases, 1% when as you pay your bill)
• Chase Freedom Unlimited: 1.5% cash back on purchases
• The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express: 2x Amex points on the first $50,000 spent on the card per calendar year; then 1x

But no card can top the Prime Rewards bonus on spending at Amazon.com . You'll pay no annual fee to own the card, but you must maintain a Prime membership to be eligible. The membership costs $119 annually. On the plus side, new cardmembers receive a $70 Amazon.com gift card instantly upon approval.

How to redeem points for travel

There are a few things to be aware of when redeeming rewards from your Amazon card for travel. You can use your points to purchase airline tickets, hotel rooms, car rentals and cruises, but you'll have to book over the phone, and Chase says that "travel rewards are subject to availability." If you don't have enough points to book your travel, you can pay the additional cost with your card account.

If you need to make a change or cancellation , you have to call back. Fees may apply and will be charged directly to your card account. If a refund is granted for travel booked in whole or in part with points, you'll receive a credit to your points balance for the number of points used.

Is there a strategy to use your Amazon points for travel?

Because all redemptions are worth a flat one cent each, there really isn't a particular travel reward that stands out. However, Chase's travel portal is powered by Expedia , so it's a good idea to compare pricing directly with an airline , hotel, rental car company, or activity provider.

Although you can typically earn redeemable airline miles and elite-qualifying miles when you book airfare with Chase , the same can't be said about hotels. You usually won't receive credit toward elite status and you probably won't be offered the benefits of any status that you already have.

Bottom line

Amazon and Chase don't make redeeming your points for travel easy, nor is there any incentive to go this route since points aren't worth any more by redeeming them for airfare or hotels than they are for paying your Amazon bill. However, flexibility is nice, so you could pay your Amazon bill one month and buy airline tickets the next month and do it all from one account.

If you're a big Amazon shopper , your best bet is to use the points to discount your Amazon purchases or to have cash directed to your bank account. Then you can use it to pay off the expenses you incurred by booking travel with your favorite travel rewards credit card .

I’m Maximizing Space in My Carry-On Bag for an 18-Day Trip with These 7 Amazon Travel Finds — All Under $30

I went deep on Amazon’s best-selling travel gear chart

In just a week, I’ll be boarding a flight to Europe and beginning an 18-night journey with five stops across three countries — and I’m determined to do it all with nothing but a carry-on .

Because I’ll be unpacking and repacking in four hotels and one friend’s guest room over the duration of my journey, I want to keep my belongings as organized (and edited) as can be. In my quest to streamline my suitcase, I went deep into Amazon's best-selling travel gear chart to browse the site’s most popular organizers and accessories. 

I found seven standouts, including a set of compression packing cubes , a small but mighty makeup bag , and a super-compact hanging toiletry bag — and they’re all under $30.

Eneteck 3 Pair Travel Shoe Bag, $13 (Save 10%)

This travel shoe bag is hands down my favorite discovery. It fits three pairs of shoes in a neat package that measures 11.8 inches by 8.7 inches, which is about the size of a piece of printer paper, and it’s only 5.5 inches high once zipped up. 

One reviewer confirmed it was the “perfect size” for two pairs of shoes and sandals, and another shopper called it a “lifesaver” for fitting a pair of running shoes, hiking boots, and sandals. This is perfect for me, since I plan to wear my bulkiest shoes while traveling (chunky loafers), and I’ll use this to pack a pair of ballet flats , heels, and my trusty Adidas Sambas . 

Bagail 4 Set Compression Packing Cubes, $17 with Prime

I know from experience that packing cubes are a game changer. Compressive packing cubes?! This is next-level, and I want in. These ones are designed with a second zipper that packs the cubes down into neat little packages. They come in sets of four, five, or six and in plenty of colors and patterns, as well as clear. 

The packing cubes have more than 14,500 five-star ratings from shoppers, so I feel pretty confident about picking them up, and they’re only $17 right now. One reviewer who bought them also got a “more pricey set” to compare with, and when they did a “practice pack,” they said these packing cubes “won hands down.” 

And another reviewer , who traveled internationally with the packing cubes, wrote, “When customs opened my suitcase, it kept my items tidy, covered, [and] not exposed to dirt or germs.” But, most importantly, the compression cubes helped them “get a lot more” into their suitcase. 

Purevave Compact Hanging Toiletry Bag, $19 with Prime

The hanging toiletry bag I have now is great, but it’s huge. This compact version is only 10 inches by 5 inches by 3.5 inches when it’s closed, and it’s big enough for the essentials. It also has nice design details like a middle compartment specifically designed for a toothbrush and toothpaste and elastic bands to hold liquid items in place.

Late last week, Amazon announced that Prime Day 2024 will kick off in July. Based on previous years, we anticipate the sale taking place some time during the second week of July. Once the sale starts, you’ll have 48 hours to shop the deals before Prime Day 2024 comes to a close.

Technically, there’s only one Prime Day each year. But for the past two years, Amazon has run a similar savings event in October. However, Hayes’ public life and superstar status present many obstacles for the two to overcome, and Solène learns that life in the spotlight may not be as desirable as it looks from the outside. “The Idea of You” premiered at South by Southwest in March, where it earned a rave reception and ahead of its release on Prime Video it holds a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes .

'Clarkson’s Farm' season 3

“Clarkson’s Farm” has been a huge success story for Prime Video, the documentary show follows outspoken presenter Jeremy Clarkson as he attempts to create his own farm business from scratch. It’s a surprisingly compelling concept and this third season looks set to be the most dramatic installment yet as Clarkson’s farm, which he named Diddly Squad, faces all manner of challenges from severe hot weather, skyrocketing inflation impacting the cost of necessary supplies and the potential closure of his beloved farm shop. Needing a creative solution to generate some quick cash, Jeremy hopes to turn hundreds of acres of unfarmed woodland into a profit-making space. ‘Maxton Hall — The World Between Us’ 

Based on the best-selling novel “Save Me” by Mona Kasten, “Maxton Hall - The World Between Us” is a new teen drama series that sees the quick-witted scholarship student Ruby (Harriet Herbig-Matten) inadvertently witnesses an explosive secret at the uber-posh Maxton Hall private academy. James Beaufort (Damian Hardung), the egotistical millionaire heir, is determined to stop Ruby from spreading the truth, but unable to buy her silence, he’s forced to deal with her for the foreseeable future. However, their initial dislike of each other soon gives way to a passionate spark, and these two people from different worlds might have more in common than they first thought.

Prime Video is hoping to have the next big reality hit with “The GOAT” an over-the-top competition that brings together more than a dozen reality superstars to compete for a grand prize of $200,000. The participants will also have the opportunity to earn and then break their fellow competitors' trust, adding an extra strategic element to the proceedings. “The GOAT” is hosted by charismatic comedian Danial Tosh, and looks like the chaotic gameshow we’ve been craving.  

'Outer Range' season 2 

Prime Video’s sci-fi Western show “Outer Range” is back for its sophomore season this month. Once again starring Josh Brolin as Royal Abbott, a rancher fighting for his land and family after discovering a strange phenomenon at the edge of the Wyoming wilderness, the first season was a unique mix of influences that coalesced to form a (mostly) satisfying whole. “Outer Range” season 2 will raise the stakes even higher, as the Abbott family, including Royal’s wife Cecilia (Lili Taylor), struggle to stick together in the wake of a devastating disappearance. There are encroaching threats on all sides, and things are only going to get more intense as the show’s compelling characters are propelled deeper into the dark void that could swallow them.

Amazon Prime Day has grown into one of the biggest sales events of the year, with discounts rivaling those of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. With so many retailers selling on Amazon, Prime members can save on just about anything, from viral beauty products to new unlocked smartphones.

The best Prime Day deals we saw last year included all-time lows on brands like Apple, Vitamix, iRobot, Dyson, Crocs, and, of course, Amazon-owned products like the Fire TV , Kindle e-reader , and Echo smart speakers . We expect to see more of the same this year as well.

It'll be the first major deal holiday of the year, so it's an awesome chance to score summer discounts on big-ticket items and household staples. The retailer's 10th Prime Day event has officially been announced to arrive in July, but the actual days are still unknown. When is Amazon Prime Day 2024?

Amazon Prime Day is officially coming this July, though the exact days have not yet been announced. In past years, it kicked off on the second Tuesday of the month. If Amazon follows the same trend, it will take place on July 9 and 10. We'll keep this story updated as more details are announced.

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day is the retailer's annual mega sale and one of the major benefits of Prime membership. It's a two-day sales event, usually during the summer, that features products from every category, from fashion staples to hot new tech. 

Though it used to be a deal holiday of a much smaller scale, Prime Day has grown exponentially since the first one in 2015. Now, you can find almost everything on sale for all-time low prices, matching discounts we see during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. 

What should I buy during Amazon Prime Day?

Everything is fair game to buy during Amazon Prime Day. Whether you've been holding out on a pricey new TV or just need to stock up on toiletries, Prime Day is a good time to make your move. 

Last year, we saw incredible prices on tech, including 4K TVs , Fire TV streaming devices , Apple products, Kindle e-readers , PC gaming accessories, Echo smart speakers , and top headphones picks. Prime Day tech deals featured brands like Logitech, Bose, Jabra, Sony, Roku, Samsung, TCL, and more. 

If you're looking for style and beauty deals during Prime Day, last year, brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Tatcha, Laneige, Levi's, Carhartt, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Adidas, and Marc Jacobs all featured products at rare low prices. That means skincare, makeup, shoes, men's clothing, women's fashion, and accessories will all be available for less. 

Home and kitchen products saw no shortage of Prime Day deals either, with big names like Dyson, Shark, iRobot, Philips, KitchenAid, Nespresso, Casper, Leesa, and OXO down to all-time lows for the event. So, whether you need an air fryer , robot vacuum , mattress , or just some sturdy mixing bowls, Prime Day is a good time to buy. 

You don't need to be focused on fancy new gadgets or treatments to shop smart during Amazon Prime Day either. We also catch tons of affordable household essentials available for even less every year, like toilet paper, dish soap, doggy bags, and makeup wipes. These deals are sweet, since they save you money on stuff you needed to buy anyway. 

How long do Prime Day deals last?

How long a Prime Day deal lasts differs between items, but in general, the best discounts will start during the event and end before the 48-hour holiday is over. Some will last the whole two days while others will only last one, so it's always wise to act on a good sale when you see it. Lightning deals especially go fast, the most popular of which dwindle away in less than an hour.

I always recommend buying a product you've had your eye on as soon as it's highlighted as a Prime Day deal. Regardless of how long it's set to last, oftentimes the best sales run out of stock, resulting in shipping dates being pushed out, or the deal no longer being offered at all. Do you need to be a Prime member to shop Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day is locked to Prime members only. It's one of the major benefits of subscribing to the service, in addition to other perks like free two-day shipping and Prime Video streaming. 

If you have yet to become a member, you can sign up for a free 30-day trial to test it out. Once the official Prime Day dates have been announced, you can even time your free period to overlap with the sale, but it's not a guarantee since sometimes retailers will lock out free members from shopping the best deals.

Do other stores participate in Prime Day?

Although Prime Day is an Amazon-specific event, it's grown so large that other major retailers have started kicking off competing sales to overlap with it. No one has announced a competing Prime Day sale just yet, but if past years are any indication, Walmart, Target, and Best Buy will likely be holding their own events.
