Themed History Walks

Historic stony brook: gateway to princeton history.

Before there was a “Princeton,” six Quaker families established a community on the fertile ground along Stony Brook. This two-hour hike explores the lives of the early settlers and the community they established, while following a portion of the trail George Washington took from Trenton to the Princeton Battlefield. Stops include the Stony Brook Meeting House and Burial Ground, walking a portion of the “hidden” back road into Princeton, and a view of the Battlefield. Tour starts at 354 Quaker Road, Princeton.

Check back for spring 2024 tour dates.

Oppenheimer Walking Tour

Want to learn more about Princeton’s role in J. Robert Oppenheimer’s life and the development of the atomic bombs? Inspired by the release of Christopher Nolan’s movie, this tour will traverse the University campus (including locations where Oppenheimer was filmed) while sharing stories about the local academic figures recruited to work on the Manhattan Project. Tour starts outside the Princeton Garden Theatre, 160 Nassau Street.

Getting to Campus

You can get a good feel for all that Princeton has to offer both on campus and online.  Prospective students and their families are welcome to visit campus and enjoy our outdoor facilities. Parking information will be made available upon registering for either a student-led campus tour or an in-person information session.

Princeton is located between New York City and Philadelphia and is easy to reach by public transportation or by car. The closest and most conveniently accessed international airport is Newark Liberty International.

We recommend you consult our list of  local resources , including restaurants and lodging to explore the local area. For a mobile friendly arrival guide with maps and directions, please review our On-Campus Arrival Guide .

The University is easily accessible by train, which runs along the Northeast Corridor line and also stops at Newark airport. Both  Amtrak  and  NJ TRANSIT  trains stop at Princeton Junction. Thank you for considering applying for admission to Princeton University and your interest in engineering.

Reflecting Princeton’s integrated approach to education and its close-knit community that spans engineering and the liberal arts, all undergraduate admissions are handled through the University’s central Office of Admission . Applicants indicate their interest in engineering and express their intention to pursue the Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.S.E.) degree, but there are ample opportunities to transfer between degree programs. Students may pursue the B.S.E. in the departments of Chemical and Biological Engineering , Civil and Environmental Engineering , Computer Science , Electrical and Computer Engineering , Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering , and Operations Research and Financial Engineering . The Department of Computer Science offers both the B.S.E. and the liberal arts (A.B.) degrees.

We have many great things to say about Princeton Engineering as a launching place for your dreams and for making a positive difference in the world – and you can find a few succinct reasons why in our FAQ .

In-person Guided Engineering Tours

Guided engineering tours during the academic year are offered by members of the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society, who are juniors and seniors who are able to describe their experiences as engineering students at Princeton while providing an overview of the academic programs and facilities. Guides will begin the tour promptly at 11:30 a.m. from the SEAS Undergraduate Affairs Office, room C209 in the Engineering Quadrangle (E-Quad), which is K3 on the  campus map .  Tours last 45 minutes to an hour and are offered Monday through Friday, when  classes are in session . Unfortunately, we are unable to offer guided tours on weekends, during Reading Period (just before exams) and exams, or during breaks. Our available tour dates are online  here .

During the summer, guided engineering tours are offered from the Monday after the July 4 th  holiday through the end of July, given by students who are spending their summers at Princeton doing research. Guides will begin the tour promptly at 11:30 a.m. from the SEAS Undergraduate Affairs Office, room C209 in the Engineering Quadrangle (E-Quad), which is K3 on the  campus map . Tours last 45 minutes to an hour and are offered weekdays only, Monday through Friday.

Our available tour dates will be available online  here  in June 2023.

We ask that you please RSVP and follow the instructions. An email confirmation will be sent. Please be aware that during high school vacation weeks in February and April, as well as on holidays such as Columbus Day, there is a very heavy demand for guided tours. Since Princeton students have to meet academic obligations, we do not have large numbers of guides available, so the tours during peak periods can get very large. If possible, please plan to visit outside these periods.

Please note that we are unable to store personal items such as luggage, backpacks, coats or umbrellas in the E-Quad.

A Tour of the Renovated Gym

February 3, 2024, amélie lemay.

Phase 1 of the Dillon Gym renovation was completed just in time for the beginning of the spring semester. On opening day, Campus Rec hosted tours of the new space, and the Princeton Tiger made an appearance. Here are some highlights of the updated fitness center, as well as a preview of what's expected in Phases 2 and 3.

Author smiling with Campus Rec tiger mascot

The exterior of the building remains the same, with its elegant Gothic façade and gargoyles. The interior has been updated with modern amenities, but you still get to sweat in a castle.

Stone exterior of Dillon Gym on a sunny fall day

Once inside, you swipe your prox to check in, and then head down a hallway to reach the main fitness center. The new space is larger than before, and it features brand new machines and weights.

weight machines of the renovated Dillon Gym

There's a row of ab machines in front, followed by free weights and pull-down machines (pictured above), and then several rows of squat racks and bench press bars. On the right, there's an array of new cardio machines (below). There are stair-steppers, rowing machines, treadmills, ellipticals, and even a set of Peloton bikes. On the edges of the main floor area are places for students to use yoga mats for floor exercises, stretching, and free weight reps. In the rear are desks and chairs for students to gather before or after working out.

Center aisle and cardio equipment of the renovated gym

Exercising in this updated facility is really nice, since there's more space, high ceilings, and brand new equipment. And while the previous fitness center would sometimes take on an unpleasant odor, I'm quite happy to report that this new space has continued smelling fresh even at peak hours. One of my new year's goals is to add more strength training to my fitness routine, and I think the new gym will help motivate me to do so.

The new pool is scheduled to open in a few short weeks. This is only Phase 1 of the Dillon Gym renovation, and  Phase 2  is scheduled to open in the fall. The lobby will be renovated and have an accessible entrance, and there will be a new adjacent building with two levels containing group fitness rooms and more cardio and weight machines. The eventual Phase 3 will bring more space for functional workouts, according to  The Daily Princetonian . There's much to look forward to in terms of the future of fitness at Princeton.
