All of our Jordan luxury tours include a stop at Petra, the ancient Nabataean city that is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007. During your Jordan private tour, you will explore the city carved into the red rock by the Nabataeans more than two thousand years ago. You may recognize some of these locations in Petra from the Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade movie.

Head to the lowest point on earth and visit the Dead Sea, where John the Baptist baptized Jesus.

Day 1: Arrival in Amman

An Osiris Tours representative will meet with you upon arrival at the Queen Alia Airport, Amman, to facilitate the visa process and escort you through customs and immigration. Continue to the baggage claim hall and finally to the passenger pick up. Meet with your private guide and driver to transfer to your hotel.

Day 2: Amman

Today’s luxury tour to Ajlun will include a private vehicle, a driver, and a trained, certified guide. There, enjoy climbing the narrow staircases and walking through endless hallways, taking you back to a time of chivalry and faith, where you can almost imagine the sounds of battling Iron and the sight of the raging battlefield.

After visiting Ajlun, enjoy a short private ride to Jerash. Jerash is one of the best-preserved Roman provincial towns in the world. Jerash reveals a fine example of the grand, formal provincial Roman urbanism found throughout the Middle East, comprising paved and colonnaded streets, soaring hilltop temples, handsome theatres, spacious public squares and plazas, baths, fountains, and city walls pierced by towers and gates. After visiting Jerash, head back to Amman for a private city tour.

The private custom tour of Amman will include the fascinating Roman Theater and Nymphaeum that reflect the historic legacy of the city and the enchanting Citadel, which has stood since the ancient times of the Ammonites. For a more exotic and traditional experience, you will walk around in the old-downtown, also known as the local market in Amman ”Souq,” and take in the traditional sights and smells of the spice market. During this custom tour to Amman, you will have the opportunity to shop for authentic souvenirs. Enjoy a Falafel snack with the locals at famous restaurants, eat Arabic Sweets (Knafeh), and drink fruit cocktails at a local fruit stand.

Ajlun, Jordan

Day 3: Madaba – Nebo – Petra

Today enjoy a private custom tour to Madaba. Madaba is known for its spectacular Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics. Madaba is home to the famous 6th century Mosaic Map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land. With two million pieces of vividly colored local stone, it depicts hills and valleys, villages and towns as far as the Nile Delta. The Madaba Mosaic Map covers the floor of the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George, which is located northwest of the city center. The church was built in 1896 AD, over the remains of a much earlier 6th century Byzantine church. The mosaic panel enclosing the Map was originally around 15.6 X 6m, 94 square meters, only about a quarter of which is preserved.

After enjoying Madaba and its incredible history, continue to Mount Nebo (15 minutes drive from Madaba). According to both the Jewish and the Christian traditions, Moses was buried in this mountain by God. However, his final resting place is unknown and shall remain so according to the Jewish and Christian tradition. Scholars continue to dispute whether the mountain currently known as Nebo is the same as the mountain referred to in the Torah. However, archaeologists worldwide have conducted endless searches for this cave and have not found a trace of its existence.

Afterward, located 10 minutes north of Petra, explore The Siq Al-Barid (Little Petra) and its temple, the miniature Siq.

After visiting Mount Nebo, we continue to Petra (a 4-hr drive from Mount Nebo) – Drive beyond Umm Sayhun, a short distance north of Petra. The road runs between wild and beautiful outcrops of rock, the color of pale honey. It is called al-Beidha in Arabic, ‘the white one.’ Al-Beidha was one of Petra’s main commercial areas, the entry and exit point for the trade routes to the north and north-west.

Later in the evening, enjoy the Petra Kitchen, which is a delightful way to round out your Jordan travel experience. Like any home kitchen, the Petra Kitchen is a relaxed, informal atmosphere where you will gather to prepare an evening meal, working alongside local women under our chef’s supervision. Each evening meal includes soup, cold and hot mezza and salads, and the main course, all typical Jordanian dishes. You will have the chance to get an inside glimpse of the secrets behind the famous regional cuisine of the Levant.

Accommodation: Mövenpick Petra (5*)

Day 4: Petra – Wadi Rum

Start your day with your private guide and private vehicle visiting Petra, the treasure of the ancient world, and the rock-carved rose-red city, which was “designed to strike wonder into all who entered it.” Petra is the legacy of the Nabataeans who settled in southern Jordan more than 2,000 years ago. Explore its refined culture and unbelievable architecture.

After visiting Petra, drive to Wadi Rum (about a 1.5-hour drive). This is a stupendous, timeless place, virtually untouched by humanity and its destructive forces.

During this custom tour, you will explore Wadi Rum with your private four-wheel excursion and your private certified tour guide. Here you will explore the uniquely shaped massive mountains that rise vertically out of the pink desert sand in the magnificent Jordanian desert. After enjoying Wadi Rum, head back with your private car and driver to Petra.

Jordan Private Tours

If you are looking for a private tour in Jordan this page is a great place to start. Not only does it include private tour itineraries, but it also includes tips on choosing and booking a Jordan private tour.

For first-timers in Jordan, planning can get overwhelming, and hiring a private guide can take the guesswork out of planning the best itinerary. No one knows a good itinerary like a local Jordan guide who spends every day traveling around the country.

I have seen plenty of bad itineraries, from both tour operators (who often have never done the tour) and from people who plan to see the country independently, but do not do the proper planning. Jordan private tours will enable you to sit back and relax as your guide or driver will take care of getting you from A to B. Behind the scenes, your private tour guide will take care of the itinerary and logistics while you can enjoy your adventure in Jordan.

A private tour guide in Jordan can offer the expertise that first-timers to the country might not think of. From quick detours enabling visitors to see even more that they never thought could happen to a quick word with an employee of a site that is about to close that does not want to admit more visitors; Jordanian tour guides can often give you more than what you would get if you had shown up on your own.

What to Know About Booking A Private Tour Guide in Jordan

How to choose a guide.

The most important thing about choosing a private tour guide in Jordan is to ensure they are licensed by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities . Taxi drivers and private drivers are quick to offer “guiding” services but are usually not licensed guides (or they would be doing tours not driving cars).

Licensed guides are permitted access to all of the sites in Jordan and often are given priority service in restaurants, handicraft shops, and some sites.

Having a private guide with you means you will not have to hire a local guide inside the tourist sites and they can give you a more detailed experience that a guidebook cannot afford you.

Why choose a Jordan Private Tour Guide instead of a Group Tour?

There are several reasons to book a private tour guide in Jordan instead of a group tour. The first is the option to completely customize your itinerary based on your time in the country, the level of comfort you are looking for, and the sites you want to see.

The second reason why you should consider a private tour guide in Jordan is that they can cater to special situations that group tours cannot always accommodate. If you are traveling as a family, young children have different needs when it comes to having a “pool day” or rest afternoon. Also, large families can benefit from booking a private tour instead of taking up half the spaces on a small group tour. It can also often save you money.

The third reason to book a private tour in Jordan is that it caters to travelers who do not like group tours. If the thought of sitting on a bus from A to B and seeing something then getting back on the bus from B to C just turns you off tours altogether, then a private tour is perfect for you. You can lounge at lunch for as long as you want or stop for take-out shwarma without having to stick to a strict schedule. Jordan private tours offer the ultimate flexibility.

How to Book a Private Tour Guide In Jordan?

That is where Step into Jordan comes in. Below you will find sample private itineraries that are perfect for small groups. All of these tours are customizable and they include as much as your want. The tours below just include a guide and the vehicle, to give you an idea of what having a licensed guide will cost you in Jordan.

A safe sliver of land nestled in the heart of the Middle East, Jordan is rich in both historical landmarks and contemporary intrigue. Though many travel to Jordan for a holy pilgrimage through the nation’s biblical landmarks, a specific spiritual itinerary is not necessary to feel the history of the region. In fact, a trip through its’ desert would provide the same ancient feeling, as local shepards clad in robes guide their livestock through the land and ancient ruins are natural backdrops to bustling day-to-day life. The best days in Jordan are spent sipping cardamom coffee and watching Middle Eastern culture unfold around you.

But if you feel eager to engulf yourself further, dive into the capital of Amman. A far stray from the nation’s more rural provinces, it is as modern and culturally diverse as any metropolis but with a spirited, Jordanian flair. Regardless of whether your itinerary steers its’ way through biblical ruins, thriving city markets, or provincial desert air, the locals welcome all with a sincere hospitality. As any Jordan tour guide will tell you, it is truly a land to be discovered.

Tell us your destination, date, and group size.

Our team of travel experts and guides will design a tailored itinerary just for you., enjoy your trip with peace of mind knowing everything is taken care of..

Ahlan wa Sahlan - Welcome to Jordan.

Hi, I’m Abdullah Nawafleh, a private tour guide and I would like to personally welcome you to Jordan. Wherever you go in Jordan you will hear Ahlan wa Sahlan - Welcome to Jordan. Jordanians are famous for their hospitality and nothing gives them greater pleasure or makes them prouder than being able to welcome you to their country and ensure you have a great time. An invitation for a cup of tea to someone’s house is an opportunity to experience firsthand this hospitality and leave with new friendship formed.

Come and delight in the wonders that Jordan has to offer; from being surrounded with stunning natural beauty to exploring ancient ruins steeped with history, taste dishes that will leave you salivating, and experience a culture built on centuries of traditions. There is something for everyone to enjoy.

A holiday in Jordan can see you visiting the ancient city of Petra built centuries ago by the Nabatean people. Marvel at their engineering skills at how they created decorated tombs and monuments chiseled into the colorful sandstone cliffs. Jordan is home to the ruins of Jerash, one of the most fantastic examples of a Roman city you can find anywhere. Walking around the ruins can easily transport you back 2000 years and imagine what life would have been like. A taste of crusader history can be found at Karak or Shawbak Castles. Other ancient and historical sites in Jordan include the Eastern Desert Castles, Um Quais, Um Ar Rasas, Aljoun Castle and among others.

Amman is a vibrant and exciting capital city which whilst offering all the services and facilities that you would except to find in the nation’s capital, it has not forgotten it’s past. The citadel provides stunning views over Amman and a journey through the history of the civilizations that have called this region home over the millennia.

A trip to Jordan would not be complete without spending time at one of the beautiful wilderness areas. From the breathtaking and expansive desert and monolithic outcrops of Wadi Rum, to the forests of the North, the wetlands of the Az Zarqa, and stunning landscape of Dana Biosphere Reserve. Getting off the beaten track is easy to do with many hiking opportunities offered.

Floating in the Dead Sea at the lowest place below sea level is an opportunity to tick a item off the bucket list, and swimming in the Red Sea offers fantastic scuba diving.

I am experienced in being able to offer all kinds of tours in Jordan including: Aqaba Port Shore Excursions, Specialised Petra Trail Tours Tours all over Jordan, and Jerusalem and Bethlehem Tour Extensions.

I look forward to being able to share with you this beautiful country and provide you with a holiday you will never forget. اتمنى   لك   يوما   سعيدا  ('a'atamanna lak yawmaan saeidaan) I hope you have a good day Abdullah Nawafleh

Culture and customs.

As a Muslim country, Jordan’s culture is quite conservative, although not as conservative as some other Middle Eastern countries. Western influences (particularly in Amman and other large cities) have infiltrated Jordanian society so Jordan now possesses a mix of Arabian customs amid modern ways of life. Due to immigration, Jordan now has a significant Palestinian and Iraqi population, adding to the cultural diversity of the country.

Despite the outside influences, Islamic traditions are strong in Jordan with spectacular mosques signaling the call to prayer five times a day, Ramadan being observed each year and some segregation of the sexes occurring.

The desert-dwelling Bedouin have a distinct culture of their own, drawing on traditions that have been passed down for centuries. Living a largely nomadic lifestyle, the Bedouin rely on the herding of animals and the creation of handicrafts in the absence of a fertile environment to farm. With a strong musical heritage, traditional instruments are played and time-honored traditions are continued.

Hospitality is a crucial element of Jordanian culture. Most visitors will be humbled by the kindness, sincerity and genuine care showed by Jordanians. Being welcomed into peoples’ homes is common, and can probably be attributed to the custom of welcoming strangers and sharing food when traveling in the unforgiving desert.

Eating and drinking

Intrepid believes that one of the best ways to experience a country is by eating! Whether you're sampling street food, savoring a cheap eat or indulging in a banquet, there are endless options to choose from wherever you are in the world.

Featuring typical Middle Eastern ingredients like lamb, chickpeas, garlic and a range of aromatic herbs and spices, Jordanian cuisine is delicious.

Things to try in Jordan

Like many other Middle Eastern countries, a plate of shared breads and dips is a great way to begin a feast.

This traditional Bedouin dish of lamb and yogurt is usually served with rice and bread. This is the national dish of Jordan, so definitely try it before you leave.

These small, sweet pastries made with honey and nuts will have you going back for more.

The coffee in Jordan is strong. Often spiced with a hint of cardamom, coffee is strongly linked to the famed Jordanian hospitality, so drink up – it would be rude not to!

Geography and environment

Jordan is made up of a staggeringly diverse range of natural environments. From stark deserts to towering mountains, fertile wetlands, coastal reefs and urban cities, journeying through Jordan provides changing scenery and varying conditions.

Sharing borders with Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Israel and the Palestinian Territories, Jordan mixes modern architecture with heritage-filled buildings, well-manicured streets with historic alleyways and impressive mansions with simple homes.

Modern, developed cities like Amman and Aqaba feature unique architecture, spectacular mosques, five-star hotels and resorts. Small villages with rustic housing populate the less-built-up rural areas and Bedouin tents made of goat hair can be found in desert areas.

History and government

Early history.

The country now known as Jordan was originally inhabited by the Nabataeans thousands of years ago. Over the centuries, Jordan has been a place conquered and inhabited by many different people including the Romans, Greeks, Assyrians, Ottoman Turks, Egyptians and Mamluks (people of Kurdish origins). All these influences can still be seen today in Jordan's ancient ruins, architecture, crafts and arts. Many battles were fought in Ancient Jordan, including the Christian crusaders who clashed with Islamic Forces in Jordan during the 11th and 12th centuries. The first Muslim Dynasty began with the Umayyad Empire in 661.

Recent history

In 1950, Jordan was renamed the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and in 1951, King Abdullah I was assassinated while visiting a mosque. His eldest son became king but was removed from his duties in 1952 due to mental illness. In 1953, his teenage son Hussein Ibn Talal became king, and continued to rule for over 40 years. In the 1960s, Jordan saw many immigrants arrive and settle – mainly Palestinians escaping the conflict in their homeland.

In 1999, King Abdullah II succeeded his father King Hussein and continues to rule Jordan now. His reign has been characterized by liberal policies, economic reforms and technological advances. His wife, Queen Rania of Jordan, has a visible public profile, is active in many social causes and is regarded internationally as a highly influential woman.

The weather in Jordan can get quite extreme. Overall, it tends to be hot during the day and cold at night (in desert areas, expect it to be extremely hot during the day and freezing at night). Yet during winter it can get bitterly cold, with snowfall occurring in some parts of the country.

Traveling during the summer months (June, July and August) can be challenging for those not accustomed to the heat, so visiting Jordan during spring and autumn is recommended for those who wish to escape the hotter temperatures.

Is tipping customary in Jordan?

Tipping is up to the individual in Jordan. Hotels and up-market restaurants typically add a surcharge that is included in bills, which is usually 10%. Rounding up bills and leaving spare change is a good idea when dining in smaller restaurants and when using taxis.

What is the internet access like in Jordan?

Internet access is growing rapidly in Jordan. Internet can usually be accessed from hotels and internet cafes in major cities. Expect little to no access in small towns, villages and other rural areas.

Can I use my cell phone while in Jordan?

Cell phone coverage is good in Jordan’s major cities and built-up areas like Amman and Aqaba. Expect limited to no phone coverage in more isolated areas like the desert. Ensure you have global roaming activated on your phone before leaving home.

What are the toilets like in Jordan?

Western-style toilets are common in modern hotels, malls and at popular tourist areas. Squat toilets are the standard throughout the rest of the country. Sometimes, you may need to pay and bring your own toilet paper when visiting public rest rooms.

What will it cost for a…?

Can I drink the water in Jordan?

Drinking water from taps in Jordan can be safe, depending on where you are. It's considered safe to drink water from modern hotels that have filtered water but perhaps not so from smaller establishments and in rural areas. For environmental reasons, try to use a refillable water bottle rather than buying bottled water. Peel fruit before eating and avoid ice in drinks.

Are credit cards accepted widely in Jordan?

Major credit cards are widely accepted by stores in Jordan. Smaller cafes and shops may not accept credit cards so ensure you carry enough cash to cover small purchases.

What is ATM access like in Jordan?

ATMs are common in Jordan’s main cities so finding one won't be a problem. Rural and remote areas typically will have less ATMs so be sure to carry enough cash for purchases when away from the city.

As a Muslim country, Jordan’s culture is quite conservative, although not as conservative as some other Middle Eastern countries. Homosexuality has been decriminalized in Jordan since 1951, and while Jordanians who identify as having an LGBTQIA+ identity will not be criminalized, many people continue to hide their sexuality or identity from their families, and there is still a deep social stigma. As long as LGBTQIA+ travelers display some discretion and respect for local culture, particularly when visiting places outside of the major cities and tourist areas, they will have no problem visiting Jordan.

Jordan Express

Great tour from start to finish. Well balanced with very active days. Comfy travel with plenty of stops. Kalid our guide was extremely knowledgable! To be fair I think we got a bit lost with the amount of information at times:) If I was to give some criticism it would be to Not use the hotel in Petra ‘Petra Nights’. Wayyy too expensive, plus we had a little visitor during the night! no apology from the front desk, just a shrug. This hotel wasn’t a patch on the Guest House in Amman, it was fabulous there, staff were friendly and helpful. I don’t think anyone would be disappointed with this trip. Packed full of history and sights you will never forget. Great value. Thanks to all.

Totally Jordan - 8 Days Tour

Totally Jordan - 8 Days

I had high expectations of Jordan but this trip still managed to beat them. Petra was staggering and the night camping in Wadi Rum was great. I would strongly recommend booking this tour instead of the shorter one, as the free day at the Dead Sea is very welcome after a busy tour! All of the hotels were of a high standard, with good Wi-Fi and delicious meals. Our guide Mohamed was attentive and interesting, he made several stops that weren't on the itinerary, for example to see a historic Ottoman train in Wadi Rum. Jordanian people are so friendly and welcoming, and despite the situation in Israel I felt completely safe and looked after for the entire trip. I cannot wait to return.

A Week in Jordan Tour

A Week in Jordan

Great tour, but a lot of driving to see the amazing sites in Jordan. Hotel staff were nice but one hotel did not have working hot water. Another hotel had a broken elevator. Petra is so amazing it would be worth having a second day to explore more thoroughly.

Jordan Jewels - 8 Days Tour

Jordan Jewels - 8 Days

Overall it was very good - perhaps because I was the only person on the trip and so was able to change the agenda a bit. There was a bit of confusion as I had booked two nights before the start of tour at the Hotel (Torino) and when it came to the 3rd night (official start of the Tour) the hotel couldn't find the booking. I had booked through Vacations to Go on the Tour Radar site but it turned out the operating company was Jordan Attractions. This was quite a nuisance as I had to wait to meet the hotel manager w(I had to ring the emergency no to find this out as no-one had told me.) I am very glad I could arrange to stay at the Dead Sea rather than return to Amman as I would not have wanted either the extra travel or to stay another night at the Torino. My guide was excellent and looked after me very well. I knew exactly what I wanted from the trip and the itinerary matched my needs. The company did its best to accommodate me re extra hotel nights as I wanted to spend a few extra days in Aqaba however they wanted an extra $1000 for these bookings. When I questioned this they said I could book them myself if I could get cheaper - so I did, and for $350. I found that a bit strange. I would suggest to anyone to research exactly what they want from a tour quite thoroughly.

Unforgettable Jordan Tour

Unforgettable Jordan

The tour allowed us to get to know the main places in Jordan and have a complete vision of the country. To get to Lot's Cave, the guide suggested doing it with a car, but when getting off it, we had to climb more than 200 steps on foot, of which the guide did not know because he had never been there and it is an important fact to mention for those with reduced mobility. In Betania we spent more than 40 minutes in a souvenir shop but later on the Jordan River the guide said that we didn't have time to see the Orthodox church. We were able to enter at the insistence of the group. We were not told that we could dive into the Jordan River to bring towels and change clothes, other tourists did. The visit to Jerash was very interesting and surprising for the conservation of the ruins. In the Wadi Rum camp it would have been enough to prepare a handbag. This would have avoided loading and unloading the suitcases of all passengers, speeding up the transfer. The camel ride was 45 minutes according to the itinerary but only of 15 according to the guide. Given the claim of several passengers with the agency, it was carried out as indicated. In the Dead Sea, a brief explanation of how to apply the mud to take advantage of its properties would have been good. Excellent Holiday Inn hotel on the Dead Sea.
