The Traveler True Rotary® Vise was first introduced in 1988. Since then, it has become the most popular vise in the world. It offers the True Rotary® feature Renzetti Inc is known for, as well as portability, unquestionable hook holding power and an affordable price.
The T2000 Traveler Series Vise, as it was called back then, has gone through some major changes. From a Traveler Non-Cam Jaw to a Traveler Series with Cam Jaw. But it was not until almost 20 years later that the most dramatic change took place when the Traveler 2200 Series Vises was introduced.
Now many will ask, what is the difference? Both vises have the portability, True Rotary® feature Renzetti is known for, and unquestionable hook holding power and range. The difference is the finish. The Traveler 2000 is the original Traveler introduced in 1988. The newer Traveler 2200 Series is anodized. Our tyers still wanted more, and the Traveler 2300 Series was introduced in 2012 as a result of the introduction of the Special Edition Master .
The Traveler Series, regardless if its the 2000 Series, 2200 Series or the 2300 Series, offers the great features of True Rotary® Vise. A larger black powder coated pedestal base (5” x 5”) with a 7″ stem, or a black powder-coated C-clamp with 8” stem. A cam jaw with the strongest hook holding power in the industry. A bobbin cradle, and yes, made in the USA. There are many options and accessories you can add to the Traveler Series making it very versatile for the fly tyer who wants a vise that will do it all.
Our goal is to continually offer a True Rotary® Vise, whether its for a beginner or experienced tyer, that will offer top of the line performance and last for years to come. We will continue to listen to tyers and offer new products to make your time at the bench more enjoyable. This is the reason for introducing products like the Traveler with the Streamer Pedestal Base or the Standard Base.
The Renzetti True Rotary® Series Vises are sold thru authorized Retailers worldwide, and our ecommerce site rdflyfishing.com .

Renzetti 2300 Traveler Vise Review
4 comments / Posted on October 2, 2018 / by Louis Cahill
By Bob Reece
The Renzetti 2300 Series Traveler Vise is a serious upgrade.
Years ago I was blessed to receive a phone call form an elderly lady in my community. She knew that I was a young fly tier and fisher. Her husband had passed away several years earlier and had left behind a life time of fly tying tools and materials. Through her great generosity, I happened upon what has been the most valuable asset of my fly tying career.
When I arrived at her house she guided me into the basement and toward a bedroom. When the bedroom door opened I found myself looking at chest high boxes wall to wall. Each box was filled with either fly tying tools or materials. After recovering from the shock, I began the process of working through the extensive collection. As I worked my way toward the back corner of the room, I opened a small tattered box. Inside sat the slim silver frame of a Renzetti Traveler vise. Never having tied on any form of quality vise, I was elated over the find. Looking back, I could have found any brand of vise in that box. With the fly tying experience that I now have, I’m thankful that it was a Renzetti.
Until recently, every fly that I have constructed since has been on that vise. Several weeks ago I moved on, to another Renzetti Traveler. With the creation of their 2300 Series Traveler, I couldn’t help but reach for the upgrade.
The range of hook sizes that I spend time tying on fall into the typical trout sizes of mid twenties up to one. Within the jaws of the traveler, all of these sizes remain firmly locked down during the tying process. When constructing patterns on these hooks, I tie with pedestal variation of the vise. With the 2300 Series, Renzetti beefed up the weight of this all-important foundation. As a result the stability during the tying process is rock solid.
While all of the above features are important, the most valuable element of the 2300 Series Traveler is the construction of its frame. Many popular vise brands sport various elements of their frames that are large and bulky. The Traveler has maintained its slim streamlined form. This is hugely important in terms of how the vise interacts with the two most important tying tools, your hands. The sleek frame of the Renzetti allows ample room for the tiers hands to work from any angle on patterns of all sizes. This element above all others has helped me to improve the quality of flies that I create during my journey as a fly tier.
If I could take home a Ferrarri for the price of a Toyota, I would. Renzetti provides tiers with that option in the 2300 Traveler. With its solid construction and sleek function this vise can help you continue to grow in your journey as a fly tier.

Love my Renzetti Saltwater Traveler 2300 Cam Vise – C-Clamp Model SC2303 which I bought on 19th Sep 2013. I tie flies on No 8 to 6/0s hooks and it has travelled about 82,000 ks with me when I go on my trips and would recommend to anyone as a good vice to tie with. Some day I may get a Renzetti Master, however I will keep the 2303 Traveller as well. Cheers BM
Best vice I have owned. It is simple compact and gets the job done from large streamers to size 20 midges. I was thinking of trying out the regal vice however for another option. I used it in a class a few years back and loved that one too. The price tag is a little steep though. Probably just stick with the renzatti.
I have owned a Renzetti Traveller for four or five years. Very unhappy with the durability of the midge jaws. Replaced one set and the second set is nearing replacement. Went to another manufacturer.
Kurt, I’m sorry to hear that. I’ve never used the midge jaws. I hope you find a model that you’re pleased with. Take care. Bob
Renzetti Traveler 2300 Vise Cam Lever
The Renzetti Traveler 2300 Series fly tying vises represent one of the best values there is in a quality rotary vise. The original Traveler vise was introduced in 1988 and is still available today....but the 2200 takes it up a notch. The 2300 is the "blacked out" version of the 2200 Traveler.
It's difficult to improve on a classic, but the most visible change is the anodizing of all aluminum parts, which ensures a longer lasting finish to the vise. A 7" stem on the base adds more comfort for the tyer, a larger base adds more balance and a polyurethane O-ring on the jaws adds longer wear to your tying experience.
- All black anodized aluminum parts on the 2300 series
- Bobbin cradle
- Black Oxide finished patented cam jaws
- Polyurethane O-Ring
- Rotary Tension Screw
- A new 5" X 5" black powder coated base with a 7" aluminum stem- model C2203
- or a coated C-Clamp with an 8" stem- model C2202

Renzetti Traveler 2300 Review
Renzetti Traveler. Saying that name to a fly tier would be comparable to saying Ford or Chevy to a truck enthusiast. In this Renzetti Traveler 2300 Review, we will be going over some of the great features of this fly-tying vise.
About Rezentti Inc.
Andy Renzetti began his journey into the world of manufacturing fly-tying vises and tools in the early 1970’s. What started as a desire to make a better-quality vise than what was available at the time, morphed into a hobby of making vises and tools and then ramped up to a full-time operation in a three-car garage by 1978. 10 years later, in 1988, Renzetti Inc. was born and the manufacturing facility that they operate out of today was built.
Quality and Warranty
The Renzetti Traveler 2300 series vises are the most popular vises we sell at Sea-Run Fly & Tackle. They offer a high-end performance at a very reasonable price. These vises are 100% USA made and carry a lifetime warranty that quite frankly, you’ll probably never need to use because these vises are built solid.
The features offered with this Renzetti Vise, coupled with the quality and price are all that make this such a popular choice of tying vises.
Locking Cam with Fine Tune Adjustment Knob
The locking cam with the fine tune adjustment knob allows for the tiniest of #28 dry fly hooks up to a large 4/0 big game saltwater hook to be tied on without concern for movement when pressure is applied. there’s nothing more frustrating at the tying bench than having a hook move when you’re putting the finishing touches on a masterpiece of a fly.
A True Rotary Vise
The Traveler 2300 is a true rotary vise. This means that the fly, when rotated, stays in the same horizontal position and does not change in angle even when spun 360 degrees. Having the true rotary feature is so very handy when wrapping a rib or a body material up the hook or for viewing all sides of the fly making sure proportions are perfect.
C-Clamp or Pedestal Base
The Traveler 2300s are available in either a c-clamp or pedestal base. The pedestal base model is our regularly stocked item as it allows the vise to be used practically anywhere. The pedestal model also has two areas where beads can be stored while tying without having them roll away.
Bobbin Cradle
This vise also comes with a bobbin cradle which allows for a place to rest the thread and bobbin while you are doing other jobs for the tying of the fly, such as cutting or preparing materials.
We stock two different models in the 2300 Traveler, the 2003 and the 2303. These are basically identical as far as features and function but the 2303 has a black anodized finish.
In conclusion, the Renzetti Traveler 2300 are a spectacular series of products that will provide a lifetime of fly-tying enjoyment.

Renzetti Traveler 2200 Vs. 2300 Fly Tying Vises Comparison
Fishing is one of the most common hobbies and pastimes of people. One variant of fishing that many people enjoy partaking in is fly fishing.
Fly fishing involves using a lightweight lure also known as an ‘artificial fly’. These flies can either be bought from stores or made yourself.
If you want to make your own flies, what you will need is a fly-tying vise. Two of the best ones available are the Renzetti Traveler 2200 and 2300.
They are both pretty much the same product, with 2300 being the ‘blacked out’ version of 2200.
A Quick Comparison Table
Key differences between renzetti traveler 2200 and 2300 series vises.
Fly fishing is the more active variant of regular fishing. Whereas in regular fishing you would just cast your line and relax until you get a bite, fly fishing involves a fair bit of activity.
Not only will you usually be waist-deep in water, but you will also need to match the fish’s movements, all the while wading through rushing rapids.
You will also need to be able to properly navigate rocky and slippery river beds when fly fishing.
As implied by the name, the quality, and type of fly you use are an integral part of fly fishing.
You would need to make different kinds of flies according to the location you are fishing and the type of fish you are trying to catch.
In the end, you could just take the easier road and just buy the flies you need from your local bait and tackle shop. However, if you want to save money in the long run, it is much better to just make your own flies.
This is where fly-tying vise machines such as the Renzetti Traveler 2200 and 2300 come in.
After going through the comparison table, you should have a pretty good idea about all the characteristics and differences between the two different desk fly-tying vises.
Now, let’s go a bit more in-depth into the characteristics of the shelves and really break down and discuss each characteristic of the Renzetti Traveler 2200 and 2300 vises separately.
- Type of Vise
For custom fly tying, there are three different kinds of vises available. The first one is a stationary vise. As the name implies, these hold the hook in a stationary position without being able to turn.
The second one is a turning vise. These hold the fly with a spring clamp, allowing it to be turned for inspection.
The third and final one is a rotary vise. The Renzetti Traveler 2200 and 2300 vises both fall into this category.
Rotary vises allow the user to inspect the fly from any different angle by simply rotating it.
Another benefit to using rotary vises is that it is much easier to apply specific materials such as hackles to flies using a rotary vise.
The rotary function of vises will not be used on every occasion. However, when you need to apply a hackle or inspect the fly, it could prove to be a very useful feature.
- Vise Bases Availablity
Renzetti Traveler offers two types of vise bases for both the 2200 and 2300.
The two available bases are a 5’’ X 5’’ black powder-coated pedestal with a 7-inch aluminum stem and a coated C-Clamp with an 8-inch stem.
The C-Clamp version of the vise is better for the more casual fly tier. It can easily clamp onto any raised surface at any time.
It is important to clamp one in the most ergonomic position possible to maximize efficiency.
On the other hand, the pedestal version of the vise works well for more serious tiers. Putting the pedestal on an even and stable surface allows for easy fly-tying.
- Vise Material
This is where the main and pretty much the only difference between the Renzetti Traveler 2200 and the 2300 lies. Other than the slight difference in appearance, both the products are the exact same thing.
The Renzetti Traveler 2200 is made of high-quality, anodized aluminum parts. The anodized aluminum gives the whole thing a decorative, durable, corrosion-resistant, anodic oxide finish.
The only way the Renzetti Traveler 2300 differs from 2200 is that 2300 is made of black anodized aluminum instead, giving it a blacked-out look over the more silvery appearance of 2200.
- Additional Vise Features
As already mentioned, both the Renzetti Traveler and 2200 and 2300 are the exact same products so they also have the same features included.
Both vises come with a bobbin cradle and black oxide-finished cam jaws. Past models used to utilize rubber O-rings in the vise. However, the newer versions such as the 2200 and the 2300 use O-rings made of polyurethane instead.
Where rubber degrades and gets damaged more easily, polyurethane gives the O-ring a more durable, long-lasting build.
Both vises also come with rotary tension screws. The vises are available in both right and left-handed variants.
Even in the pricing, the vises do not differ at all. Both vises can be bought for 249.99 dollars.
Which Vise Should I Buy?
Now, we come to the question that most people wanted to know the answer to from this article. Which fly-tying vise should you pick? The answer to this question depends entirely on you and your aesthetic preferences.
As has been mentioned many times in this article, from a feature and specifications standpoint, both the Renzetti Traveler 2200 and 2300 are the exact same products. The only difference is that 2300 is the ‘blacked out’ version of 2200.
So, if you prefer a silvery appearance for your vise, pick 2200. If you want a vise with a darker, black coloring, you should choose 2300. Here is why I like the 2300 model!

Final Words
To sum up, in this comparison of Renzetti Traveler 2200 and 2300 series vise, it is clear that both products are pretty much exactly the same with only a small difference in appearance.
So, if you are a fly fisher looking for a vise to make your own flies with, you can pick either the Renzetti Traveler 2200 or 2300 without missing anything.

Enjoy Your New Home but Don’t Forget the One Year Rule
By Joseph Smith EA / MTax, contributor
One great benefit to travel assignments is the opportunity to experience a community for a longer stretch of time and absorb the local culture. Week-long vacations never provide the intimate knowledge of an area that a three-month assignment does, and if a traveler enjoys the work at the facility and the community, there is often an opportunity to extend.
Additionally, if the traveler has a tax residence, he or she can continue to enjoy the benefits of tax-free travel reimbursements. As great as that sounds, the party cannot continue forever, as tax regulations prohibit a traveler from receiving tax-free housing or reimbursements for more than a year in one geographical area.
The One Year Rule
Tax-free travel benefits like provided housing, per diems, tax advantage programs and allowances are only available to those that are working away from their tax home temporarily . Temporary is defined as an assignment not to exceed 12 months in one metropolitan area. This was not the case prior to 1992. Prior to 1992 and the legislative provisions that changed the rule, temporary was defined as work away from home for less than 2 years, regardless of the location of the assignment. The focus shifted to the location rather than the length of transitory job sites.
Applied to travel nurses and other healthcare travelers
The One Year Rule has a broad application. Tax homes are defined as where an individual earns the majority of their income unless they fall under the exceptions for temporary assignments and the engagement does not exceed a year in one location. The 12-month measurement focuses on the continual income in the area to avoid creating a tax home at the temporary job site. Working on a different floor, with a different agency, a different facility across town or taking up another temporary residence within the same metropolitan area does not change the fact that the taxpayer is receiving a continual stream of income in the same area. Additionally, the fact that each contract is for a term less than twelve months, does not “restart the clock”. All assignment extensions in the same area are considered a continuation of the first.
The rationale that Congress had when establishing this benchmark is that it would be unreasonable to expect someone to move their residence to work only for a year. Even though one year may seem short term, a line had to be drawn to prevent abuse of the benefit.
Agency due diligence
A staffing agency is required to question a traveler about their work history to determine if there is a possibility that the one year rule will be broken during the engagement. In addition to the work history that a traveler submits to the agency, many Tax Home Declaration statements will contain a question about the traveler’s work history. Failing to review this could result in some harsh penalties assessed on the agency by the IRS in an audit.
Occasionally, a traveler works multiple contracts that orbit a particular area. For example, if a traveler works in Thousand Oaks, Calif., then Long Beach and Pomona, even though these towns may be construed as different areas, they are still considered the same tax base as one could live in the middle of the assignments and have a reasonable commute. Additionally, if a traveler continues to do this multiple years, the business necessity of maintaining a home in another part of the country ceases as it would be more reasonable for the taxpayer to move their residence closer to the long-term source of income since it was all earned in the same region.
After a year
Once the 12-month time is reached, all reimbursements are to be treated as taxable income subject to Social Security and Medicare taxes. This includes the fair market value of any housing provided by the agency. Just because the agency pays for the lodging, it is still a constructive receipt of income to the recipient/beneficiary as it is a substitute for wages.
What restarts the clock?
In our next article, we will explore the break-in-service rules and what is necessary to restart the clock.

Project Highlight: 2300 Calle De Luna, Tasman East, Santa Clara
By: Andrew Nelson 5:30 am on October 25, 2021
Today’s story highlights the proposed development at 2300 Calle De Luna, a two-towered mixed-use development by Related California . 2300 Calle De Luna is located on Parcel 3 of the Tasman East Specific Plan, which imagines a high-density mixed-use district by Levi Stadium in Santa Clara . Tasman Parcel 3 will add hundreds of apartments and senior housing along with retail and public landscaping to the Silicon Valley housing market.

Parcel 3 will rise 220 feet above street level to yield 1.09 million square feet, with 557,700 square feet for the 509 market-rate apartments, 186,500 square feet for the 191 senior assisted living units, 43,950 square feet for communal amenity area, 19,410 square feet for retail, and 264,270 square feet for the 613-car garage. Parking will also be included for 352 bicycles.
A total of 700 apartments will be created, ranging in size from studios to three bedrooms. Amenities for the senior living include a bistro, flex-space, a 20th-floor amenity deck, a podium-top wandering garden, a fitness center, and medical facilities. The senior housing will be part of the Atria Senior partnership with Related, under the Coterie brand. Other Coterie projects include Cathedral Hill at 1001 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco, and a potential site in Related’s Hudson Yards, as hinted by the brand website.

The market-rate structure includes a seven-floor podium capped with 15 high-rise floors. Two-story townhouse units will line the ground level beside retail and landscaping. An amenity deck will be included on the eighth floor on the podium roof. Another amenity deck will be included on the 22nd floor.

Steinberg Hart is the architect of record and collaborative design architect with Bohlin Cywinski Jackson. Surface Design Inc will be the landscape architect. The two towers contrast in design. The market-rate housing is wrapped with a slick curtainwall facade. In contrast, the senior housing is clad with a solid veneer using pre-cast concrete panels and stone decorated with oversized windows. Both towers have a similar use of terraces, in some cases tapering in size at the building corners.

At full build-out, Tasman East plans to see as many as 4,500 residential units by multiple developers along with over a hundred thousand square feet of retail, a grocery store, a potential urban school, and over ten acres of public open space. Affordable housing will be included in conformance with Santa Clara City code.

Part of the economic calculation for the development of Tasman East hinges on the future $8 billion construction of Related Santa Clara, a commercial-focused master plan to redevelop 240 acres that are currently occupied by a golf course and surface parking. Related Santa Clara is a joint venture between the City of Santa Clara and Related, poised to build over 9.2 million square feet of floor space, including 5 million for offices, 1,680 apartments, a 700-room Equinox hotel, retail, entertainment, and a 30-acre city park.
Future residents will have access to public buses, light rail, and an Amtrak train station within walking distance. Train access includes Capitol Corridor, which moves from San Jose through the Great America station up the East Bay coast to Sacramento.
