BORACAY TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS + How to Visit

Boracay is one of the first destinations to re-open to tourists since the COVID-19 pandemic brought the tourism industry to a standstill. However, health and safety protocols are still in place. The local government units (LGUs) strictly implement these policies and require tourists to submit necessary documents prior to their trip.

We were able to visit Boracay a few times since the pandemic started and in this post, we’re documenting the process that we went through on our most recent visit. Here’s a step by step guide on what you need to do before your trip. Note that these travel protocols may change, so make sure to check for updates with the local government for good measure.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

1. Complete the Boracay Travel Requirements.

Before we go to the specifics of each requirement, here’s a quick overview of the travel requirements for non-Aklanon TOURISTS visiting Boracay.

Take a good look at it so you know which ones you need to prioritize. In the pre-pandemic world, flights usually get taken care of first. But it may not always be the wisest way to go these days.

• For Vaccinated Tourists: Proof of Vaccination. This can be any of the following: – VaxcertPH certification – locally-issued vaccination card with contact details of vaccination center – International Certification of Vaccination and Prophylaxis (ICV) from WHO – vaccination card or certificate issued abroad
• For Unvaccinated or Partially Vaccinated Tourists: Negative RT-PCR test. Must be taken within 72 hours prior to departure. RT-PCR tests must be done by any of the accredited laboratories. You can find the list of accredited labs here .
• For Children 12 years old or under: Certificate of Undertaking. Here’s a template.
• Confirmed hotel or resort booking on the island. Make sure that you book a hotel with Certificate of Authority to Operate/Provisional Certificate of Authority to Operate from the Department of Tourism. You can check the list of hotels here: LIST OF OPERATIONAL HOTELS IN BORACAY .
• Roundtrip transportation details
• Valid ID (for local tourists) or passport (for foreign tourists)
• Online Health Declaration Card (OHDC) . You will be accomplishing this online at Tourist Boracay website .
• Tourist QR Code and copy of your Health Declaration Card. These will be sent to your e-mail if the processing is successful. Print or keep a digital copy of your Tourist QR Code and keep it with you at all times when you are in the island.

For tourists coming from Western Visayas: also submit the following:

• If driving private vehicle, photo of the vehicle plate
• If taking public transportation, accomplished Certificate of Undertaking. Template here.

2. Accomplish the Online Health Declaration Card (OHDC).

• Go to www.touristboracay.com and click Boracay on the homepage.
• Fill out the form with all the required details and click Submit .

The form will ask you for info on your health, accommodations, and itinerary.

You’ll also be asked to upload the requirements. More info in the next section.

3. Upload a copy of the requirements.

At the bottom of the same OHDC page, you’ll find a section for uploading of the required documents.

(Previously, the submission of requirements was done via email. In our case, we had to email to [email protected] and use the subject OHDC-Family Name, First Name. For example: OHDC-CARLOS-VINS. But it has since been integrated in the OHDC form.)

Here are the documents you need to upload:

Only JPG, PNG and PDF files smaller than 2 MB are allowed. If your file is bigger, you need to resize it first.

Make sure to send only valid documents. Keep in mind that falsification of documents is punishable by law.

Enter the CAPTCHA code and click SUBMIT.

4. Save your QR Code.

After submission of the requirements, the next page will present your unique OHDC QR code.

You may click the PREVIEW AND DOWNLOAD button to keep a copy of your QR code. You may print or take a screenshot of it.

Keep this QR Code with you at all times when traveling to and around the island. You’ll be presenting it at various points including the ports of entry and exit. In our experience, they check for the HDC and QR code as early as airport check in. They also asked for them at the gate, upon boarding.

If for whatever reason you didn’t get an OHDC QR code or you failed to save it, you must start a new application.

5. Check for updates from the validators.

While the OHDC QR code is generated automatically, your documents will still go through a manual validation process to check if they are all authentic and complete. If the validators have any concern with your submission, they will try to reach you via phone call, SMS or email.

If you’re asked to submit additional documents , you must comply by sending an email to [email protected] with the subject following this format: COMPLIANCE-LASTNAME,FIRSTNAME-DATEOFTRAVEL.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region VI has a list of hotels and resorts with a Certificate of Authority to Operate (CAO) or a Provisional Certificate of Authority to Operate (PCAO). Here are just a few of the hotels on their list.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

I plan on extending my stay in boracay. what to do.

Your Tourist QR Code will expire 12 hours from your accommodation checkout time. If you plan to extend your stay, send an email with a new booking slip to [email protected]. You must do this before your original checkout time.

When uploading requirements, I get an error saying “Size Validation Failed”. What to do?

This means your files are bigger than 2MB, so you need to resize them first. Here’s how to resize files .

I get an error “Extension Validation Failed”. What to do?

The system accepts JPG (JPEG), PNG and PDF files. If your file isn’t any of those, you have to convert them first.

I didn’t get a QR Code. What to do?

If after your submission, the system failed to generate a QR code or if you failed to save it, you should fill out the form again and start a new application.

I still have issues about the OHDC QR Code. How to contact them?

Hi Carlos, from Boracay to Manila? As far as I know, no need to do another One Health Pass for that. It’s only for those entering the country from abroad.

First Timer’s Guide to Boracay Island 2024

Fine sands, turquoise water, and glorious sunsets – Boracay Island is truly a tropical paradise for those who want a beach vacation. It’s also easy and convenient to travel to, making it ideal for first-time tourists, families, friends, and couples on a romantic holiday.

Over the years, Boracay has seen significant changes. From a previously unknown island inhabited by the indigenous people, it was developed to a world-renown tourist attraction. In 2018, it was closed for a 6-month rehabilitation as part of a move toward a more sustainable future. This year, it also introduced new requirements for visiting tourists.

Boracay Travel Requirements

As of 2022, here are the requirements you need to present to visit Boracay Island:

• Confirmed hotel booking
• Boracay Tourist QR Code (generated at touristboracay.com , 3 days prior to arrival date)
• For vaccinated individuals : vaccination card / For unvaccinated individuals : RT-PCR test result taken within 48 hours

How to get to Boracay

Boracay Island is located in Aklan province. It is close to 2 international airports: Caticlan and Kalibo. From either airport, you need to travel to Caticlan Jetty Port where you’ll ride a ferry to the island.

Caticlan is considered the main gateway to Boracay, as it is only 30 minutes away from the island. From Caticlan Airport, there are tricycles waiting to take you to the jetty port. Fare is P50 per person.

You can book your transfer from Caticlan Airport to your hotel via Klook.

Kalibo is a popular option among budget travelers. It is located about 2 hours away from Boracay Island. From Kalibo Airport, there are vans bound to the port. Fare is around P250-300 per person.

You can book your transfer from Kalibo Airport to your hotel via Klook.

Once you arrive in Caticlan Jetty Port, pay the registration fees and secure a boat ticket. The boat transfer to Boracay takes about 15 minutes. Ferries are available daily, from 4AM to 10PM.

Once you arrive at Boracay Island, there are e-trikes waiting to take you to Station 1, 2, or 3. You can share a ride with other passengers or charter the whole tricycle. Fare is P30 per person if sharing and P150 per ride if chartering the whole e-trike.

Take note that drivers can only drop off passengers along the main roads, so if you are booked in a beachfront accommodation, you may still need to walk. If carrying heavy luggage, considering booking transfers from your hotel.

Where to Stay in Boracay

Boracay is famous for its 3-kilometer stretch of fine-sand beach called White Beach. White Beach is divided into three stations: Station 1, Station 2, and Station 3. You can walk this stretch — it will take about 30 minutes from Station 1 to Station 3.

Station 1 is the best place to stay in the island. It is quiet, relaxing, and home to high-end beachfront resorts. It’s also where you can find the famous Willy’s Rock.

Station 2 is the main tourist hub in Boracay. It’s the best option if you want to stay in the middle of everything. It has numerous shops, cafes and restaurants, and activities. It offers a mix of mid- and high-end accommodations.

Station 3 is ideal for budget tourists who want to stay in a quiet part of Boracay. Although this area has fewer commercial establishments, the beach is uncrowded and it only takes a few minutes to get to Station 2 by foot.

Aside from these stations, there is also Station Zero where you can private luxury resorts such as Crimson Resort and Spa Boracay. If you are looking for other relaxing places to stay, there are also alternative beaches and mountainside resorts you can book in the island. If you’re a solo tourist looking to mingle, you can also find party hostels in Boracay .

Top Things to Do in Boracay

Here are the best activities you can do in Boracay.

The main reason you’re visiting Boracay is to experience its famous shores, so pack up a towel and sunscreen and sunbathe, swim, or just watch the beautiful paraw sail boats along the shore. Don’t forget to witness the island’s sunset, which is said to be one of the best sunset spots in Asia .

Island hopping is one of the popular activities in Boracay. This activity takes around 5 hours and may cover the following: Puka Beach, Coral Garden (snorkeling), Magic Island, Crystal Cove, Crocodile Beach, Ilig-Iligan Beach, and Ariel’s Point (cliff-diving) .

Similar to an island hopping tour, a land tour via e-trike will take you to the best spots in the island, including Puka Beach. Other land tour destinations include Tambisaan Beach (with picture taking in a kawa), Bulabog Beach, Keyhole, New Coast Beach, and/or Ilig-Iligan Beach.

You won’t run out of outdoor activities to do in Boracay, whether it’s a chill one such as parawsailing or something more adventurous such as helmet diving , parasailing , paddle boarding, jet ski, banana boating, and more.

In addition, the island is also a favorite of windsurfers and kitesurfers due to excellent wind conditions. Divers will also appreciate the plentiful dive sites around Boracay. Over 20 are located only a short boat ride away and advanced divers can access world-class sites such as Yapak Wall, Virgin Drop, Camia, Tribird, Punta Bunga, and Crocodile Island.

One of the newest activities offered in the island is crystal kayaking. A guide will take you out to sea so you can pose for some social media snaps with the clear water of Boracay in the backdrop.

Finally, if you’re looking for something unique, Boracay also offers mermaid swimming lessons!

Boracay Island is a haven for different restaurants, so you can always find a place to satisfy your cravings. Whether it’s for traditional Filipino cuisine or else Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, Mediterranean, Indian — you’ll find it in the island.

Of course, a Boracay food trip won’t be complete without going to a seafood restaurant for fresh oysters, clams, and other local harvests.

A lot of the activities vary in price because there are no standard rates, so you might find differences in tens to hundreds of pesos depending on the tour agency or vendor. It’s best to compare prices when you’re in the island.

Where to eat in Boracay

One thing that you’ll find about Boracay is everything is expensive, especially the food. So it’s best to prepare your wallet if you want to explore the culinary scene in the island.

Here are some of our favorite restaurants:

• Nalka Seafood Restaurant . This open-air restaurant offers unlimited seafood buffet . Ideal for sunset dining for the beautiful sunset views. Loc: Station 1.
• Café Maruja . This restaurant serves delicious Buddha bowls and tropical smoothie bowls. Loc: Station 1.
• Nagisa Japanese Restaurant . An underrated restaurant that serves amazing Japanese food like sashimi, curry, etc. Loc: Station 3.

You should also check out popular stalls such as Coco Mama (ice cream in a coconut bowl) and Jonah’s Fruit Shakes in Station 2.

One of the most commonly asked questions when visiting Boracay is where to find budget restaurants? Most restaurants in the island have expensive menu because the ingredients have to be brought in by boats, but there are still plenty of budget options.

Fast food restaurants like Jollibee , McDonalds , and Mang Inasal are popular dining options. There are also small restaurants that offer good food at reasonable rates, such as Meze Wrap and BunBun . The island also has ordinary eateries often located in small alleys that offer rice meals and silogs.

When in Boracay, you should try fresh seafood!

If you want to go on tradition, head to D’Talipapa where you can buy fresh seafood from wet market stalls and have them cooked in a restaurant (aka paluto service).

There are also Boracay buffet restaurants where you can indulge in seafood and local delicacies. Nalka Seafood Restaurant offers unlimited seafood buffet. Henann Crystal Sands Resort also offers seafood buffet dinner, while Henann Regency Resort and Spa is said to have the best buffet in the island which includes seafood and other options.

Night life in Boracay was toned down after its rehabilitation and new regulations were put in place (i.e., drinking is no longer allowed in the beach), but you can still enjoy a night out in the island.

Head to OM Boracay Bar , Kasbar Boracay , and 360 Lounge Bar for drinks and performances. Certain spots such as Wave Bar and Lounge also have fire dance performances.

Buy your pasalubong at D’Mall , a huge open-air commercial space where you can find various shops and souvenir stalls, as well as cafes and restaurants. It is hard to find pasalubong outside of Boracay.

• When is the best time to visit : Boracay is a popular destination all-year-round, so expect that there will always be a lot of tourists in the island. That saying, it’s off-peak season starts from July to November . During this period, you can score hotel and resort discounts. February and the shoulder season from late May to early June are also lean periods. If you arrive during peak season (summer and holidays), expect long lines in activities such as island hopping, helmet diving, etc.
• How to get around : You can walk from Station 1 to Station 3. Trikes is also a common transport.
• ATMs : There are ATMs in the island. A lot of establishments also accept GCash.

Here are important travel tips to Boracay before you go.

• Don’t forget to bring your OOTDs and reef-friendly sunscreen in your beach packing list !
• A lot of vendors will approach you to offer tours and activities. It may feel pushy and annoying. Just firmly decline if you are not interested.
• Beware of common “scams” in the island. Always ask for the full price when going to a seafood paluto, especially if you are asking the restaurant to do the shopping for you. Ask for the additional fees in island tours, since entrance fees are often not included in published rates. You should also be careful when getting hair braids — some vendor will quote a price and then ask additional money for the actual braids used. Lastly, you may get approached by locals offering free buffet or lunch — what they won’t tell you is that you will need to attend a 2-hour presentation for a membership program to get these free lunches.
• Lastly, it is easy to visit Boracay DIY. But packaged tours are also worth considering, since it’s easy and you can even get discounts if you’re in a group.

If you are going to Boracay to relax, try island-hopping, or experience water activities, you should take note of the weather during your target travel dates before booking your plane ticket. This is to avoid canceled plans and to lessen the hassle usually caused by unexpected rains and thunderstorms.

You can enjoy Boracay all year round, but the best season to experience the island and its beaches are from December to May, the dry season in the Philippines.

You would be able to walk around the powdery white sand beaches of Boracay while taking in the warm summer sun. A lot of locals and international travelers visit the island during this time as well, so you can expect bars to be lively at night. 

Boracay’s peak season is from March to May, the country’s summer months. During this period, Boracay becomes the go-to beach destination for locals.

National holidays such as Christmas, New Year, Chinese New Year, and Lent or Holy Week (from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday) are also peak seasons in Boracay. 

No matter what time of the year you choose, the weather will never be too chilly or too hot. The average high temperature is approximately 30 °C, while the average lows are at around 25 °C. The hottest month in Boracay usually falls from March to June, while the wettest month often falls from August to October.

Bring beach necessities such as a swimsuit, a rashguard, shirts, shorts, slippers, shades, goggles, towels, and a hat or cap. Wear sunblock to avoid getting sunburnt.

How to Get to Boracay 

Boracay is accessible from the major cities of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, the three primary island groups of the Philippine archipelago .  

Before traveling to Boracay, make sure you have a printed voucher from your pre-booked accredited Boracay resorts and hotels . You will be denied entry to the island if you don’t hold a voucher from your resort or hotel.

Going to Caticlan Jetty Port 

The main jump-off point is Caticlan Jetty Port, but there are different ways to get there. Here are four transport options when traveling to Caticlan Jetty Port:

It is the fastest route when going to Boracay. It is also the most accessible since flights to Boracay  come from different parts of the Philippines (including Manila to Boracay flights ) and even several countries outside the Philippines.

If you’re coming from Manila, the capital of the Philippines located in Luzon, take a 1-hour domestic flight from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport to Caticlan. You can also easily book  Boracay to Manila flights . Flying in from Clark to Boracay via Caticlan is also an option if you’re coming from the Northern part of Luzon or if you want to avoid the traffic in Manila. Clark to Boracay flights are usually cheaper than Manila.

If you’re coming from the Visayas, there are direct Cebu to Boracay flights from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport. If you’re coming from Mindanao, there are direct flights from Davao Francisco Bangoy International Airport to Caticlan. From Caticlan Airport, take a 10 to 15 minute tricycle ride going to Caticlan Jetty Port.

Kalibo Airport 

A flight to Kalibo in Aklan, a more significant island near Boracay, is significantly cheaper than a direct flight to Caticlan. However, you will need to travel for 2 hours from Kalibo Airport to Caticlan Jetty Port.

When you land at the Kalibo Airport, you will find a multitude of transportation options that will take you to the Caticlan Jetty Port. Be sure to check whether it’s cost-effective or if it will be more expensive for you. Your land travel options to Caticlan include riding a bus or van.  

By Ferry 

Most locals ride a ferry going to Boracay as it's much cheaper. If you don't mind traveling for long hours or a couple of days, then this mode of transportation may be for you.

Batangas Pier

If you’re coming from Manila or Southern Luzon, you can go to Boracay by sea through the 2Go Travel ferry. It takes about 9 hours from Batangas Pier to Caticlan Jetty Port. From Manila, you will need to board a bus to Batangas Pier from the Cubao or Pasay bus terminals.

Your  2Go Travel  fare, on the other hand, will depend on the accommodations you choose. 

By Direct RoRo Vessel 

If you would like to take the more scenic but much longer trip to Boracay, you can ride the Roll On, Roll Off (RoRo). RoRo ships are vessels that are designed to carry wheeled vehicles. 

By Bus from Manila and Board a RoRo

Several bus companies are maintaining the Manila-Caticlan route. You can hop on a bus from either the Cubao or Pasay terminal. Your total travel time for this route is approximately 13 hours, excluding the boarding time between trips.

Cubao/Pasay to Batangas Pier (2 hours)

RoRo trip from Batangas Pier to Calapan, Mindoro (2 to 3 hours)

Land travel from Calapan to Roxas Port, Mindoro (2 to 3 hours)

RoRo trip from Roxas Port to Caticlan Jetty Port (4 to 5 hours)

By Private Car from Manila and Board a RoRo 

You can also take the RoRo route using your own or hired car. It can be a good option when traveling in a big group or with your family and if you don’t mind the long travel hours. The same bus route will apply, except that you will drive to the Batangas Pier, and you must book your RoRo tickets on your own when you get there.

You can’t charter your vehicle into Boracay Island, so you need to leave your car at the Caticlan Jetty Port for a parking fee per night. Depending on the size of your vehicle, this may cost you a lot. You also need to pay for the passenger and terminal fees during vessel transfers.

After the registration, you will take a short ferry ride to Cagban Jetty Port on Boracay Island. From here, you can take another tricycle or your hotel’s private van to your chosen accommodations.

If you’re a solo traveler, it’s better to join a group so you can save more money on transportation. 

Getting Around Boracay      

The primary public transportation vehicles in Boracay are electric or motorized tricycles, motorbikes, and shared or private tours. Depending on where you're staying and your budget, it's essential to take note of the following types of transportation for a more convenient getaway.

You can explore some of the parts of the island by walking around. Just make sure to bring a handy map or download an offline map with you so you'll know how to go to the tourist spots in your itinerary. There are walking and hiking trails, too, if you plan to trek to farther places such as Mount Luho.

By Tricycle

The tricycle is the standard type of transportation in Boracay, especially if you're traveling from one station to another. Take note that during off-peak hours, special rides (private) might be the only ones available in the area and can be much more expensive than the regular ones (shared). Make sure to bring enough cash with you and ask how much you'll be paying beforehand to avoid any extra charges.

By Mountain Bike/Motorbike

If you're passing by tricycles, chances are you can see motorbikes moving around the area too. It's not regulated, but many locals use it because of the convenience it offers. You can also rent one if you want! It gives you the freedom to check out the other tourist attractions on the island without having to pay extra for a driver.

By Shared/Private Tours

If you're not keen on commuting, there are various Boracay tours  that include hotel pick-up and drop-off. It's hassle-free and convenient, especially if you're in a big group.

You can’t enter the island without a printed booking confirmation from your chosen resorts or hotels in Boracay. But before booking your accommodation, make sure that the establishment is on the Department of Tourism’s Accreditation List.

Beach Resorts

Most travelers in Boracay stay at beach resorts . It is more convenient because you get easy access to the beaches. Resorts are also a good place to stay if you're on your honeymoon in the Philippines . Most of their amenities also focus on creating a relaxing atmosphere. Depending on your resort, you might get access to luxurious spas and indoor pools.

If you're looking for a more comfortable place to stay, then it might be best to stay at a hotel. In Boracay, you can find a lot of this type of accommodation; luxury accommodations (some of which offer  Philippine luxury vacation packages ), mid-range, and budget hotels are all available, some even offering free cancellation. Most basic amenities can be found in hotels, such as en-suite bathrooms, minibars, and free WiFi.

Neighborhoods and Areas

There are barangays and towns in Boracay, but when it comes to distinguishing the different areas on the island, the stations in White Beach act as a map for both locals and tourists. White Beach is divided into three sections: Station 1, Station 2, and Station 3. You can buy the freshest catch in their wet market and have them cook it for you.  

There’s another thing you need here: an adventurous spirit! While walking along the beach, you’ll see various water sports available for you to experience. You can try banana boat riding, jet skiing, parasailing, paddleboarding, or helmet diving in Boracay!

The Philippine government is taking serious steps to preserve the beauty and natural resources in Boracay. As tourists enjoying the breathtaking island, it’s our responsibility to comply with the new guidelines.

Please take note that you can only enter Boracay with a proper reservation at DOT-accredited accommodations. Make sure to print your booking confirmation. No booking, no entry! It is essential because, according to Boracay's new rules, only a limited number of tourists may stay on the island.

While a lot of the restaurants, resorts, and hotels in Boracay accept credit cards, it is still best to bring enough cash with you. Most ATMs and money exchange centers are around Station 2.

Drinking is not allowed on White Beach, which is why beachfront parties are banned. You can only drink alcoholic beverages inside the approved bars. Dining by the beach is also prohibited. Smoking is not allowed on the beach, but you can find designated smoking areas to avoid penalties.

Don’t light a campfire by the beach. Any open fire by the beach is prohibited. And most of all, don’t litter. Pick up after yourself and throw your trash in the right garbage receptacle.

RT-PCR COVID Test

1. Provide a Negative (RT-PCR Test)  Saliva Test, Nasopharyngeal or Oropharyngeal

You will need to provide any of the following;

• A Negative RT-PCR test with date of extraction 72 hours to date of travel is required.

2. Accredited Hotel Booking Confirmation

When making your Boracay Hotel arrangements make sure the hotel you wish to stay at is on the list of  Department of Tourism Accredited Boracay Hotels . An extra step is to ask if the hotel has received a Certificate of Authority to Operate (CAO). A couple of examples are 7 Stones Boracay and Red Coconut Beach Hotel.

3 . Complete the Online Health Declaration Card

Visit the website  https://touristboracay.com/  to fill out your Health Declaration Card or (HDC). This form is a legal formality to make sure you haven’t been exposed to COVID, tested positive in the past or had a recent fever or any other COVID symptoms. If you answer “No” to these questions and sign your life away you are good to go.

To receive your QR Code for clearance to travel to Boracay you will need to send the following documents to the LGU.

To:  [email protected] Subject Line: OHDC-Family Name, First Name, Date of Travel (MM-DD-YYYY)

You will need to include the following items in your email.

a) Health Declaration Card (HDC) b) Proof of Vaccination Status or Negative RT-PCR Test (valid 72 hours before arrival in Boracay) c) Accredited Hotel Booking Confirmation d) Proof of Identity (Copy of Passport, National ID or Valid ACR)

Expect a response with 24 hours. Once you are approved you will receive a Tourist QR code which you will need to print out and use to show at the airport, jetty ports and other various check points in order to prove your right to travel. It’s also a good idea to have your other important documents printed out and ready to show at any time.

Aklanon tourists who wish to return to Aklan and are currently residing outside the province of Aklan must also comply with the above guidelines. Local residents of Aklan will also need to submit a Health Declaration Card and a Confirmed Hotel Reservation in order to travel to Boracay.

Other Important Information

Airplane and airport terminal guidelines.

Do I book tickets to Caticlan or Kalibo Airport?

If you are traveling by air, Caticlan airport will be the designated entry and exit airport for Boracay. Kalibo International Airport will be reserved for Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROF), Authorized Persons Outside Residence (APOR) and Locally Stranded Individuals (LSI).

Inside the Airport Terminal

Remember to check-in online before you make your way to the airport terminal. Upon entering the airport each passenger will be required to wear a mask, a face shield and undergo a temperature check. Practice social distancing while making your way through the airport terminal and keep a small bottle of sanitary alcohol readily available to sterilize your hands. It’s also a good idea to bring your own pen to use throughout your journey.

On the Airplane

When boarding the aircraft practice social distancing when necessary. The cabin crew will be wearing full personal protective equipment (PPE) and will provide a shortened inflight safety announcement. Meals and snack will continue to be served in sanitized packaging.

Upon Arrival in Caticlan Airport

When you land in Caticlan, approach your designated Airport Transportation provider. It’s a good idea to plan ahead and pre-book your  airport transportation  with a local company which will make the journey safe, comfortable and hassle-free.

Prepare your printed documents including a copy of your RT-PCR Test, Hotel Booking Confirmation, QR Clearance code, along with a print-out of your HDC and of course your government issued ID. You will need to present this at the Jetty Port checkpoint at the gateway to Boracay.

You will need to keep your mask and face shield on while you make the journey through Caticlan Jetty Port and onto the boat which will take you to Boracay. The boats will recognize social distancing and be travelling at half capacity. If you wish to book a private boat you can speak with a local agent  here .

Airport Transportation

Hotel and Resort Protocols

Every hotel and resort will have it’s own set of guidelines that guests will need to follow. Generally speaking most of the common rules you are already used to will apply. Temperature checks upon entering the hotel and/or resort. Proper sanitization of your hands upon entering the resort and a face mask and/or face shield needs to be worn at all times.  Social distancing should be respected with while outside the rooms. Some resorts may restrict outside guests, so you may want to check with the hotel management before bringing in any outside visitors. Some resorts may also have contact tracing protocols that you will need to abide by.

Food Delivery to Your Hotel Room

Don’t feel like going out for dinner or perhaps you have a hankering for a late night snack. Choose from a wide variety of Boracay restaurants and have your meals delivered by  MyBoracayGuide Delivery .

Enjoying the Island Activities

It’s never been a better time to visit Boracay and enjoy the islands activities.  The beaches are practically empty and the sea life has returned to the reefs due to practically zero boat traffic. If you ever wanted to experience Boracay at it’s finest, Now is the time to book your trip. The most popular activity to experience while you are here is  Group Island Hopping . During all activities you will need to practices social distancing also wear a mask and/or face shield at all times during the trip except while snorkeling of course.  You are able to rent scuba masks, but at this time snorkels are not available to rent so, it’s best to bring your own. If you are wary about mingling with other guests you can even book your own Private Island Hopping.  Other popular activities that are available include jet skiing and parasailing.

Step-by-step Process to get your QR Code

• After accommplishing the Online Health Declaration Form at www.touristboracay.com, don't forget to submit the following documentary requirements by sending an email to [email protected] with the subject "OHDC-FamilyName-FirstName" to receive your QR Code.
• Screenshot of the confirmation page.
• Proof of identification with Philippine residency address (Valid government-issued ID i.e. Passport, Drivers License).
• Vaccination certificate from VaxCertPH or vaccination card from LGU for fully vaccinated travelers.
• Negative RT-PCR Test Result from any DOH-accredited laboratories taken within seventy-two (72) hours for unvaccinated and partially-vaccinated travelers.
• A copy of your confirmed hotel/resort booking.
• Rountrip flight or travel details. Caticlan Aiport must be used for those traveling by air.
• Processing for QR code takes at least 12 hours. Be sure to submit these requirements ahead of time.
• After receiving your QR code, be sure to take a screenshot or download it to your phone. You will need this QR code to enter and exit Boracay.

If you're traveling to boracay, be sure to prepare the following documentary requirements..

Boracay Travel Guide 2024  – Everything You Need to Know Before Visiting!

So you’re planning to visit Boracay?

Well, you’re in for a treat! 

Boracay is EASILY one of the very best beach destinations not just in the Philippines, but in the WORLD. 

Not only is it breathtakingly beautiful, but it’s also extremely convenient – you won’t have ANY problems here. 

But alright, alright. There are a few things you need to know before you come visit. 

That’s why I’ve put together this Boracay travel guide for 2024. 

In it we’ll look at:

• How to get to Boracay
• Boracay travel requirements
• A map of Boracay’s spots
• Things to do
• Where to eat
• Sample Boracay itineraries (including my itinerary when I was there)

Then I’ll finish it off with some quick-fire FAQs about Boracay! 

There’s a lot to discuss, so let’s dive right in! 

How to Get to Boracay

There is only one entry point into Boracay – the Caticlan Jetty Port. To get there, most tourists take a flight to Caticlan airport, ride a 10-15 minute van or tricycle trip to the port, then jump on a ferry for a 10-20 ride to the island. 

There are flights almost every day from Manila or Cebu to Caticlan. 

From Caticlan Airport, you have several options. You can hire a transfer service – which will take care of:

• The van to the port
• The ferry to Boracay
• The van to your hotel

This is probably the most convenient way to get to your hotel, and only costs php800 for local tourists, and php1,000 ($20) for foreign tourists if you book at the airport (If you book through Klook , it costs php640 for locals and 830 for foreigners) .

For budget travelers, you can skip the service and go straight to the tricycle terminal right outside the airport. 

When you arrive at the port, you’ll have to present your Boracay tourist QR code (more on this later), then pay several fees including:

• Environmental fee
• Terminal fee

Then when you dock in Boracay, there’s another tricycle terminal that can take you to your hotel. 

You can save about php200 ($4) per head this way, which certainly adds up if you’re traveling in a big group. 

But just a warning! Things can get pretty crowded and disorganized at the Caticlan port. So if you don’t want to be jostling around trying to find the right booths to pay the right fees, the transfer service will be better for you. 

Also, many hotels in Boracay can organize private transportation for you at your request! 

Boracay Travel Requirements

As of 2024, you’ll only need:

• Valid ID or Passport
• Confirmed booking with a DOT-certified accommodation (full list here )

There are no longer any requirements relating to COVID vaccinations!

You will have to fill up a few forms when you get to the Caticlan Jetty Port. However, these only ask for basic information, and you only need IDs and confirmed bookings to get to the island.

Boracay Travel Map

Boracay is quite a small island that’s shaped like a drumstick. 

There are four “zones” that you need to know about. Starting from the south, to the north, there is:

• The “town proper” in the south
• White beach (with stations 1, 2, and 3) on the east side of the “drumstick bone”
• The windy east side of the island
• The hilly northern side of the island (the meat of the drumstick)

Boracay “Town Proper” (Manoc-Manoc)

The port is found in the southern tip of the island. This is the part that’s closest to a “town proper”. Many locals live here, and there are budget hostels that are great for backpackers. 

It isn’t the most beautiful part of Boracay, but it’s interesting nonetheless! 

White Beach (Balabag)

Heading a little north, you’ll get to the main tourist area of Boracay, White Beach.  

White Beach is found on the western side of the island, and this 4km stretch of white sand has it ALL. 

Aside from the beach, this is also where you’ll find lots of resorts, restaurants, stores, and even D’Mall – an open-air shopping zone for all your needs. 

Honestly, if you spend your entire vacation in White Beach, that’s alright – because this is where the real Boracay experience is at. 

White Beach is divided into 3 stations – Station 1, 2, and 3. 

While there are several overlaps, here’s generally how the 3 stations are divided:

Station 3 is the southernmost station, and it’s where you find most of the budget accommodations and food choices. The floating dock for banana-boat rides, parasailing, speedboating, and other water activities is found in this area as well (you can get here by riding a boat from Station 3 or 1).  

Station 2 is right in the middle of White Beach, and is thought of as the mid-range area. D’Mall is found here, as well as most of the popular restaurants, stores, and some resorts as well. There is no dock in station 2, but this is the place to go paddleboarding or kayaking. 

Station 1 has a reputation of being the “classy” zone of White Beach. This is where you’ll find some of the more high-end resorts. This is also where you can enjoy the famous Boracay Parawsailing.

Again, there are overlaps. But if you want a quick-and-easy way to divide White Beach, that’s how to think of it! 

The Windy East Boracay (Balabag)

On the other side of the drumstick bone is Bulabog Beach . 

Contrary to the chill vibe of White Beach, the East gets REALLY windy. 

This makes it the perfect atmosphere for extreme water sports, like kitesurfing! 

The Hilly North Boracay (Yapak)

Once you pass the thin “drumstick bone” (with White Beach on the west, and Bulabog on the east), you’ll get to some hilly, winding, and oftentimes forested roads. 

Here you’ll find a mix of local homes and super-high-end resorts, like Shangri-La. 

On the Northeast side of Boracay, you’ll find a bunch of secluded resorts, Ilig-Ilagan beach (which can be dubbed as White Beach without the crowds), and Cujo’s keyhole (a nice place for pictures!) . 

Finally, on the Northernmost tip of Boracay, you’ll find Puka Beach which, to me, is the best place to watch the sunset and enjoy nature in Boracay. 

Where to Stay in Boracay

As a tourist hotspot, you won’t run out of choices when it comes to where to stay! 

Budget Places to Stay in Boracay

For budget options , you can always find affordable hotels or hostels around the town, station 3, or in some not-so-well-known areas. 

Lots of these rooms (which are good for 2) go for around php1,000 – php2,000 ($20-$40) per night. 

If you’re going solo, you can even find some that go for under php1,000 ($20) a night. 

Keep in mind though that it’s difficult to find budget accommodations that are along the beachfront – which is kind of a big deal since it’s Boracay we’re talking about. 

Mid-Price Places to Stay in Boracay

There are also mid-priced hotels scattered all over the place which go from php2,000 – php5,000 a night ($20 – $100).

Most of the hotels you find along White Beach fall into this category, with the ones closer to the beach often more expensive. 

My family and I stayed at Piccolo Hotel during our visit, a 3-star hotel 200m away from the beach and about 100m from D’Mall. 

It wasn’t luxurious or anything, but it was everything that we wanted from it (cozy rooms, fast wifi, tv, not too far from the beach, etc.) . We didn’t have any complaints! 

High-Price Places to Stay in Boracay

To me, anything above php5,000/night ($100) is expensive. 

Maybe I’m a little more stingy, or maybe it’s because I’m used to Philippine prices. 

Whatever the case, if you’re looking for something that’s more than just “okay” or “I have no complaints”, then you’ll want a place that goes anywhere from php5,000 – php10,000 ($100 – $200) a night.

Most of the hotels in Station 1 fall in this category. You can also find many of these around Yapak, near Ilig-Ilagan Beach (the northern part of the island). 

Luxury Places to Stay in Boracay

If anything above php5,000 ($100) is expensive, then anything above php10,000 ($200) should be considered luxurious. 

And boyyy are there luxurious places in Boracay. 

We’re talking places like Shangri-La, The Lind, Crimson, all the big names. 

Some of these resorts even have private beaches, so you can enjoy the beautiful white Boracay sand with absolutely no crowds around you! 

Of course, these places aren’t cheap at all. 

But Boracay is easily one of the best luxury destinations. So if you want to max out your trip, why not book one of these luxury hotels? 

Boracay Activities (What to do in Boracay!)

Now let’s get to the fun part:

Things to do in Boracay ! 

It might be small, but Boracay is PACKED with things to do. 

Here are some of the very best ones! 

Things to Do in Boracay #1: Swim and Chill in White Beach

Ahhh yes, of course. 

If there’s one thing that Boracay does better than anywhere else, it’s White Beach. 

4km of fine white sand that stretches far into the water – Boracay’s White Beach is the gold standard when it comes to beaches. 

Not only that, but it’s also an extremely convenient beach. 

A lot of breathtaking beaches come with some inconveniences – like having no resorts, restaurants, shops, atms, or anything else nearby. 

White Beach has it all. 

Now don’t get me wrong. 

The beach itself is extremely clean. In fact, you aren’t allowed to eat and drink on the beach itself. 

But just behind the line of coconut trees are all the shops and restaurants you will ever need – making it super convenient. 

Honestly, the only thing “off” about White Beach is the crowds. 

But other than that, this is the ultimate beach destination. 

Things to Do in Boracay #2: Eat and Shop in D’Mall

A trip to Boracay wouldn’t be complete without checking out D’Mall! 

This open-air “mall” is actually a plaza with all kinds of stores. 

Here you get all kinds of restaurants, coffee shops, convenience stores, souvenir shops, pharmacies, and so many more. 

There’s even a place where you can shoot basketballs for prizes. 

For the food options, you get everything from Italian to Mexican to Chinese to Filipino to fusion, everything. 

There are pizzas, burgers, rice bowls, and everything in between. 

So no matter what your preferences, you’ll find something for you in D’Mall. 

Just a word of warning! 

D’Mall gets pretty crowded. 

But then again, that’s to be expected, since this is a tourist hotspot. 

Things to Do in Boracay #3: Try the Water Activities in White Beach

White Beach is really where most of the Boracay action is. 

Aside from swimming, chilling, and shopping, you can also try the many different water activities on White Beach. 

One of the most popular (and thrilling) things to try is parasailing. 

Strap into a parachute, ride a speedboat, and let the wind take you up, up, and away! 

Just a warning! This isn’t for the faint of heart! 

If you prefer thrills that aren’t as scary, you can go for a banana boat or UFO ride. 

Or try jet skiing and paddle boarding. 

Still too intense?

Do you just want to chill?

Well, there’s still an activity for you. 

It’s called Parawsailing! 

This is another activity that’s VERY popular in Boracay. 

Hop on a Paraw sailboat, and let them take you out to the sunset. 

This is probably the best way to enjoy the gorgeous Boracacy sunset.

Things to Do in Boracay #4: Hop on an Electric Tricycle for a Land Tour! 

White Beach is really what makes Boracay Boracay. 

But if you want MORE, then a great thing to do is to hop into an electric tricycle and let them take you on a land tour! 

You can hail any tricycle on the highway, and they can tour you around for php400/2 hours. 

If you’re staying in White Beach, this is probably the best way to visit places like Bulabog Beach (very windy beach on the east side of the island) , Ilig-Ilagan Beach (White Beach but with no crowds!) , Cujo’s Keyhole (nice little rock formation for pictures) , Puka Beach (beautiful beach on the northernmost tip of the island – great for watching the sunset) , and other Boracay tourist spots. 

This was probably one of my favorite things to do when I visited. So if you’ve got extra time, don’t miss out! 

Things to Do in Boracay #5: Go Island Hopping! 

Aside from Boracay, there are a few other cool islands that you can go visit. 

These include:

Crocodile Island – An island shaped like a crocodile head. If you wanna go diving or snorkeling, this is the place to do it since there’s plenty of marine life here! 

Magic Island – A place to snorkel and cliff dive!

Crystal Cove Island – As the name implies, this island is famous for its beautiful coves – there are 2 on the island. I’ve also heard that snorkeling is great in this place. 

Where to Eat in Boracay

While Boracay doesn’t have a special dish that all visitors have to try (although you could make an argument for Chori Burger) , they do have a LOT of restaurants to choose from. 

And these restaurants cover just about every cuisine you can think of – Chinese, Italian, Mexican, Filipino, American… You name it, they’ve got it. 

Most of the popular ones are found in D’Mall, but you can find delicious food all along the highway. 

Some of the places I tried include: 

Steam Punk ( Burgers)

This is my favorite restaurant in Boracay. 

It’s so good, I ate here TWICE during my visit! 

Hailed as the “Best Burger on the Island”, these guys serve all kinds of delicious burger creations. 

From their standard hamburger, to their pulled pork burgers, to their Chori burgers, even to their footlong sandwiches, it’s ALL good. 

When your order is ready, they also have a cool little presentation, where your burger is lowered by a steam machine from the kitchen above. It adds a little excitement. 

Steam Punk is found right in the middle of D’Mall. 

Island Bowls – Boracay Beach Truck (Rice Bowls)

Found on the roadside entrance of D’Mall, this food truck serves some really, really good rice bowls from different Asian cuisines. 

You can go for things like Bulgogi, orange chicken, adobo, and more. I got the Chinese Pork with Nasi Goreng rice bowl, and it was suuuuuper good. 

They also serve milk teas. So if rice bowls with milk tea is your thing, you’ll love this place. 

Also, the food truck is aesthetic. So you can get some nice pics here! 

Aria (Italian)

For lovers of Italian food, this is the place to be! 

Found right at the beachside entrance of D’Mall, this place gives you a wonderful view of the beach while you enjoy your favorite Italian foods. 

They have pretty much everything you would want from an Italian restaurant – pizzas, risottos, pastas, lasagnas – you name it. 

Halo Mango (Shaved Ice)

Do you ever dream about eating a HUUUUUUUUUGE bowl of halo-halo with your partner? 

Welp, that’s exactly what you’ll get in Halo Mango! 

Let me tell you, the serving sizes here are LARGE. So don’t be shocked when you order the “couple-size” mango halo-halo, and you get a bowl that’s definitely for more than two people. 

And it’s delicious too! 

If you’ve never tried halo-halo before, it’s essentially shaved ice, milk, and a bunch of different fruits. In Halo Mango, their specialty is mangoes (duh). 

If you’re intimidated by what I’ve said about the sizes, don’t worry. They do have a display of their serving sizes in their window, so you can choose accordingly ( we just didn’t pay attention, that’s why we were shocked! ).

Aside from halo-halo, Halo Mango also serves soft-serve ice creams – perfect for beating the heat! 

Merly’s BBQ (Chori Burger)

Whenever I visit a place, I always try to find something that’s truly local. 

For Boracay, the closest thing you’ll get is Chori Burger – which is short for Chorizo Burger. 

While you can get a “sosyal” version of this in Steam Punk, the “original” Chori Burger comes from a small stall on the border of Station 1 and Station 2. 

It’s… well… a bit underwhelming. 

All it is is a burger bun with chorizo and some ketchup. 

But hey, gotta try the local food right?

One thing that I love about Boracay is that since the island is so small, you can easily piece together your dream vacation. 

It isn’t like some places where one activity is four hours away from the site you want to see. No, in Boracay, everything is accessible. 

That said, here are some sample itineraries you can go for!

Now that you know everything you need to know about traveling to Boracay, let’s answer some of the most frequently asked questions about Boracay! 

When is the Best Time to Visit Boracay?

The DRY season! The Boracay dry season runs from November to April – making those the best months to visit Boracay. Because what better time to visit an island paradise than when the skies are clear and the sun is out?

Now, I should warn you about 2 things:

#1 Boracay is PACKED during this season. 

So expect crowds of people on White Beach. I visited during this season, and whaddya know, it was full of people wherever I went (except Ilig-Ilagan Beach *wink) . 

And #2, Boracay’s seasons aren’t very pronounced. 

Yes, there’s a much better chance of catching the sunshine if you visit during the dry season. But Boracay doesn’t follow a strict winter-spring-summer-fall pattern. 

Instead, it has 2 seasons. Relatively dry from November-April, and relatively rainy the rest of the year. 

So if you’re willing to take your chances, you can avoid the crowds by coming during the rainy season (and you might score some discounts!) . 

Just don’t complain if bad weather destroys your plans! 

Which Airlines Fly to Boracay Island?

Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and Air Asia all have daily flights to Caticlan from either Cebu or Manila. Other airlines, such as Sunlight Air also have trips from Manila. 

Meanwhile, if you’re already at El Nido, you can take a direct flight to Boracay with Air Swift. 

Keep in mind though that these flights are not regular, so you’ll have to check their website for their schedules! 

How Much does it Cost to Fly to Boracay Island?

f you book within a month of your trip, a direct flight from Manila or Cebu can cost anywhere from php2,000 ($40) to php5,000 ($100) base fare. 

That’s why it’s always good to book early! 

If you book months ahead, you can enjoy base fares below php1,000 ($20). 

If you’re lucky, you might even hit a promo! Cebu Pacific, Air Asia, and Philippine Airlines do quite a lot of promos for flying to Boracay, and you might just get your ticket for a base fare of just 1 peso! 

Why is Boracay the Best Tourist Spot?

Beautiful white sand, amenities everywhere you look, luxury resorts – what’s not to love about Boracay? 

In my opinion, Boracay is one of the EASIEST places to travel to – not just in the Philippines, but in the WORLD. 

Combine that with its natural beauty, you get a tourist spot that is truly world-class. 

What are Boracay’s Stations?

Boracay’s stations are a simple way to divide the 4km stretch of white sand on White Beach. 

While there are overlaps, Station 3 is thought of as the budget zone, Station 2 is the mid-range area with most of the shopping options, and Station 1 is considered the high-class zone. 

While it’s not on the map, some people even include a Station 0. This is where the classiest of the classy resorts are found. The types for people on a luxury escape! 

Why Did Boracay Close?

In February 2018, President Duterte closed Boracay to tourism to make way for the island’s rehabilitation. 

Before that, Boracay was getting WAYYY too many tourists – more than it could possibly handle. This led to the island getting dirty. 

With trash everywhere and sewage on the waters, Boracay was no longer the island paradise it used to be. 

Boracay reopened in October 2018, with stricter rules. This is the reason you aren’t allowed to have picnics on the beach nowadays (or even make sandcastles!) . 

How Many Days Should I Stay in Boracay?

3 days and 2 nights should be enough to get enjoy what Boracay has to offer. 

Of course, if you wanna stay forever, why not? 

Kidding aside, I personally think that staying more than a week is already too much. 

Boracay is a place to escape reality. 

But if you stay too long, you’ll probably find that Boracay doesn’t have much in the way of diversity – it is, after all, a small island. 

If you have lots of time, you could jump on the ferry back to mainland Panay and explore that island. With FOUR provinces on that island, you can stay for months (and feel like you haven’t seen everything!) . 

But hey! 

That might just be me. 

If you absolutely LOVE beaches, why not stay for 2 weeks? A month? 

Heck, why not a whole year? 

Which is Better, Boracay or Palawan?

Boracay is better than Palawan for casual tourists and beach lovers. However, Palawan is much more diverse than Boracay, and is better for adventurous people who want to enjoy raw nature. 

Don’t get me wrong. 

Palawan is also EXTREMELY tourist-friendly. Especially the big 3 areas (Puerto Princessa, El Nido, and Coron). 

But I feel that you’ll have to be a little bit adventurous to make the most out of your trip to Palawan. Whereas in Boracay, you can stay in your hotel all day and still enjoy the full experience. 

So it really depends on what type of trip YOU are looking for!

What to Prepare When Traveling to Boracay

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

To ensure a worry-free beach holiday, Kindly secure the following  requirements needed by the Boracay local government unit when traveling to the island:

Bring a copy of the following on the day of your flight:

• Proof of Identification with Philippine Residency or Passport for Foreigners or OFWs.
• Proof of Vaccination Status:
•  For fully vaccinated tourists (any of the following):

1. Locally-issued Vaccination Card/ID with full vaccination status and with verifiable QR Code or, with contact details of the vaccination center; or, 2. World Health Organization International Certificates of Vaccination and Prophylaxis / Vaccination Card or Vaccination Certificate issued Abroad.

• For unvaccinated or partially vaccinated tourists or in the absence of the above-mentioned documents

RT-PCR Negative Result Certificate (saliva, nasopharyngeal or oropharyngeal) with date of extraction within 72 hours to date of travel. Below are the options:

• Saliva RT-PCR  conducted by Philippine Red Cross. You may book a drive thru test through their  website .

• Synergy Sourcing and Development Group
• Safeguard DNA Diagnostics Inc
• Hero Laboratories
• Manila Diagnostic Center
• Unvaccinated children aged 11 years old and below are not required to undergo RT-PCR testing.

3. A copy of hotel confirmation letter from Discovery Shores Boracay.

Boracay Island is a major tourist destination in the Philippines, and for good reasons. It is full of natural beauty, inspiring beaches, and a vibrant nightlife. What to Do in Boracay Island

There are countless activities you can enjoy on this dream island. Yet, in this section, we’ll provide you with a quick overview of them.

White Beach is divided into three sections:

• Station 2: Here you’ll find restaurants, coffee shops, clubs, and shops.
• Station 3: You’ll find lots of greenery here.

However, it’s worth noting that White Beach tends to be the most crowded due to its popularity. Fortunately, there are several other nearby white sand beaches that offer a more serene and relaxed atmosphere, making them great alternatives for those seeking a less crowded beach experience.

Besides the White Beach, some of Boracay’s beaches include:

• Puka Shell Beach : the second most visited beach after White Beach
• Balinghai Beach : small private beach owned by Balinghai Resort. Non-guests can access the beach by paying an entrance fee that includes consumable food from the restaurant.
• Bulabog Beach : great for beach sports like windsurfing, parasailing, and kiteboarding.
• Cagban Beach : This beach is the main port of the island, but you can find quiet spots to relax.
• Crocodile Beach : located in the southeast part of Boracay, this beach is full of marine life and a great spot for underwater activities like snorkeling.
• Diniwid Beach: located close to White Beach’s station 1, this beach has amazing cliffside views.
• Iligan-Iligan Beach : This spot has the same white sand feature as White Beach, and it has some picturesque limestone islets that can be explored. Besides, it’s an amazing place for snorkeling.
• Manoc-Manoc Beach : Here you’ll find a lot of locals; however, it might not be as picturesque as other beaches.
• Tambisaan Beach : Near the shore, you can find coral gardens and reefs. So, this is an ideal spot for snorkeling!
• Tulubhan Beach : Scattered along the beach, you’ll find local villages whose inhabitants rely on the sea to gather seafood. It is a good destination for a tranquil getaway.

Boracay’s Beach Rules

In order to maintain the cleanliness of its beaches, Boracay has implemented certain regulations, which include:

• Eating and drinking on the beach isn’t allowed
• Pets are banned
• Single-use plastics on the beach are prohibited
• You can’t build sandcastles or sand structures on the beach without prior approval from the appropriate authorities.

The Best Month to Visit Boracay Island

The best months to visit Boracay Island are from November to May, during the dry season. This is also the peak season in the Philippines, so you’ll find a lot of visitors.

During these months, you can enjoy a wide range of activities. The White Beach remains calm, providing a good opportunity for swimming, lounging, and enjoying the beach. On the other side of the island, you’ll find strong winds that create favorable conditions for windsurfing and surfing.

It’s worth mentioning that you can still enjoy Boracay during the rainy season (from June to October). You’ll find lower prices and fewer crowds. Most days will be sunny; however, there are chances of typhoons.

How to Reach Boracay Island

As you may already know, the Philippines is an archipelago of 7,641 islands. So, you’ll hardly find roads or trains that connect them. The only way to reach Boracay Island is by plane.

There are two airports close to the island:

• Godofredo P. Ramos Airport (also known as Caticlan Airport)
• Kalibo International Airport

Reaching Boracay from Godofredo P. Ramos Airport

The closest airport to Boracay Island is Caticlan Airport, which is located just 7 kilometers away. After landing, you’ll need to reach Caticlan Jetty Port, which is just a 10-minute walk from the airport. From there, you can board a boat to Boracay, which typically costs around 4 USD. You’ll reach Boracay in 15 minutes.

Moreover, as Caticlan Airport is small, there may not be many flights landing here, and airfares may be higher than at Kalibo International Airport.

Reaching Boracay from Kalibo International Airport

Flying to Kalibo International Airport is generally cheaper. In fact, most promo fares are applied to flights landing here. However, it is worth noting that this airport is the farthest from Boracay Island, approximately 60 kilometers away. Upon arrival, you’ll need to embark on a bus or van ride that typically takes around 1.5 to 2 hours to reach Caticlan Jerry Port. From there, you can take a 15min. boat ride to reach beautiful Boracay.

Travel Requirements for Boracay 2023

The Philippines has recently updated its COVID travel requirements for inbound travelers. Now, fully vaccinated travelers can enter the country by presenting a certificate (in English) as proof of vaccination. Meanwhile, partially vaccinated or unvaccinated individuals must present a negative PCR test taken 24 hours before their departure. It is also mandatory for all travelers to register on the eTravel Platform at least 72 hours prior to their flight.

To sum things up, here’s all the documentation you’ll need to travel to the Philippines:

• A valid passport
• Return ticket
• Vaccination certificate against COVID or a negative PCR test
• Registration for an eTravel card

The sun-drenched Boracay has brazenly succumbed to tourism. It placed the Philippines on the tourists’ radar because of its impeccable palm-fringed, powdery, white shore cuddled by turquoise, warm sea.  But there’s more to Boracay than its world-famous White Beach, the island is also packed water sports activities, beach parties, good food and fruit shakes, and friendly locals to boot.

About boracay.

The influx of tourists in Boracay started sometime in 1970’s, when the it was used as filming locations of the US movies Nam’s Angels and Too Late Hero.  After that, in 1978, German Writer Jens Peter mentioned Boracay as paradise on Earth in his book about the Philippines. Since then, foreign backpackers started to travel to Boracay and it quickly became a budget beach destination. Back in the days, Boracay is just one of the unfamiliar places in the province of Aklan, in the Philippines inhabited by the Ati and Tumandok, the indigenous people of Panay Island who thrive on coconut farming, fishing, and goat raising.

Sadly, as Boracay quickly became one of the world’s best beach destination and developed as a prime tourist destination, the Ati and Tumandok people, the original inhabitants of the island, were displaced on a mere 2.1 hectare walled community. Dexter Condez, the spokesperson of the Boracay Ati Tribal Organization (BATO) was gunned down, and the suspect is a security guard of a popular hotel chain. BATO, accused the management of the hotel and 2 other nearby resorts as allegedly interested in the lot occupied by the Ati people. The hotel strongly denied any involvement in the murder.

It is unfortunate that despite being the original residents of Boracay, the Ati and Tumandok people seem to have lost their rights and place in the island. Over the years, only a few of them work in hotels and restaurants around Boracay, when they should be the first ones benefitting from the influx of tourists there. I have visited other ASEAN countries, and I’ve seen how proud they are of their culture. They found a way to somehow preserve, integrate, and showcase their local culture and the way of life of the indigenous people to help educate visitors. Hopefully, in the near future, tourism in Boracay can create better economic opportunities for the Ati and Tumandok, after all, the island is originally their ancestral territory.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT BORACAY?

Boracay is a tropical beach destination, its peak season is around late March to May, the summer months in the Philippines. But take note that since it is the peak season, expect the prices of flights and hotels to skyrocket. Also, there are lots of tourists during the summer.  If you want to travel with less tourist, best time to visit Boracay is around January to early March, before the peak season.  August to November is low season, due to the rainy season and typhoons in the Philippines, but prices can be pretty low during this season, so if you want to save on flights and hotels, you can try visiting Boracay at your own risk during this season. Best to check the weather updates before your trip though.

BORACAY WI-FI

While most accommodations, cafes, and restaurants in Boracay offer free internet, having your own pocket Wi-Fi is still recommended. You can connect securely online when you have your own Wi-Fi and you can stay connected online even outside the confines of your resort or hotel.

There are a handful of ATMs in Boracay (BDO, BPI, and Metrobank) and money exchange centers. Best to stack up on cash when in the island because almost everything is on a cash basis. Some establishments and hotels accept major credit cards.

BORACAY DRONE

Is drone allowed in Boracay? NO.  I was told they no longer allow flying drone for personal use.  As for business use, you need to secure a permit at the Municipal Mayor’s Office, fees may apply.

BORACAY SAFETY:

Is it safe to travel to Boracay? Yes, of course. Boracay is a tourist-friendly place and has been receiving tourists from around the world since time immemorial.  Locals here are easy going and pretty friendly.  But you have to understand that lately, due to the pandemic, which led to unemployment and closure of many businesses around the island, many locals are desperate to earn a living, so, please forgive some touts if they can be quite persistent to sell you tours or souvenirs. Thing is, Boracay is heavily dependent on tourism, that’s why the suffered a major blow when Covid-19 struck the world in 2020, because of the travel restrictions imposed by many countries. But overall, Boracay is still a great and safe destination to visit and enjoy, if you are looking to travel soon. It is also safe for solo female travelers, but I’d still recommend visiting in groups since it’s a beach destination that you’d cherish more if you are with your loved one, family, friends, or colleagues.

HOW TO GET TO BORACAY

Though you can reach Boracay by flying to Kalibo (Aklan), Roxas (Capiz), or Iloilo, because of Covid-19, Caticlan Airport (Godofredo Ramos Airport) is the only airport that accepts tourists traveling to Boracay because the IATF has implemented a one-entry-one exit policy for easier monitoring of tourists.

MANILA TO BORACAY/CEBU TO BORACAY/DAVAO TO BORACAY

  If you want a hassle-free trip from Caticlan Airport to your hotel, you can book a Boracay Airport transfer.

But if you want a DIY Tour of Boracay (Do-It-Yourself), here’s how:

• From Manila (1.25 hours), Cebu (1.5 hours), or Davao (6+ hours, via Manila or Cebu) you can fly to Caticlan Airport. Several airlines offer flights to and from Caticlan. Terminal fee is PHP 200 ($4), but that’s usually already included in your flight tickets.
• At Caticlan Airport, take a tricycle to Caticlan Jetty Port. Fare is about ₱150 ($3) per tricycle, good for 2-3 passengers. Travel time is approximately 10 minutes.
• Find the Registration Booth at Caticlan Jetty Port and register .
• Proceed to the Verification Area and present the Boracay requirements: the QR Code for the Health Declaration Card (HDC), the negative RT-PCR Test Result taken within 48 hours before your trip, and your confirmed hotel bookings.
• Pay the Boracay fees (boat fee, environmental, and terminal fee). There are 2 types of boats to get to and from Boracay:  the cheaper boat costs ₱25 ($0.52) per person one-way, whereas the fast craft costs ₱100 ($2) per person one-way. Meanwhile, the Boracay environmental fee is ₱75 ($1.55) and the terminal fee is ₱100 ($2).
• Enter the Caticlan Jetty Port Building and clear security check.
• Proceed to the Passenger Waiting Area. Wait for your boarding.
• Board your boat. Make sure to follow security protocols while on board. Travel time is approximately 15 minutes.
• Upon arrival at Boracay Port, ride a tricycle to your hotel. Chartered tricycle fare is roughly ₱100 ($2). Or if you’ve booked hotel pick-up through your hotel, look for your hotel shuttle.

Caticlan Jetty Port first trip starts at 5:00 AM and there’s one trip approximately every 15 minutes until 10:00 PM, daily.

On your return to Caticlan from Boracay, you need to pay the same fees at Cagban Port in Boracay – Environmental fee ₱75 ($1.55), Terminal fee ₱100 ($2), and boat fee ₱25 ($0.52) or ₱100 ($2) for fast craft.

KALIBO TO BORACAY

• 1.From Manila, you can also fly to Kalibo to get to Boracay. However, due to Covid-19, the IATF has implemented a one-entry-one exit policy for easier monitoring of tourists. Currently, only returning residents and OFWs are allowed to fly to Kalibo as of last year.
• .From Kalibo Airport, take a shuttle to Caticlan Jetty Port. Travel time is roughly 1 hour. Fare is about ₱500 ($10).
• Follow Step 3-9 above

KALIBO TO BORACAY BUS + FERRY : RESERVE HERE

Alternatively, you can also take the local yellow Ceres Bus to Caticlan Bus terminal. Then from Caticlan Terminal, take a tricycle to Caticlan Jetty Port.  Bus fare is roughly ₱120 ($2.47).

ROXAS TO BORACAY

If coming from Roxas, Capiz, here’s how to get to Boracay:

1.Take a shuttle bound for Kalibo. Fare is roughly ₱100 $2) to ₱150 ($3) per person.

2.Then once you’re in Kalibo, take a shuttle to Caticlan Jetty Port. Travel time is roughly 1 hour. Fare is about ₱500 ($10).

3.Follow Steps 3-9 above.

ILOILO TO BORACAY

If coming from Iloilo City, you may travel to Boracay by public transport. Here’s how:

1.Make your way to Ceres Bus Terminal in Tagbak, Jaro, District, Iloilo.

2.Board a Ceres bus bound for Caticlan, Aklan. Fare is roughly ₱327 ($7) for aircon-bus and travel time is roughly 5 hours.

3.At Ceres Bus Terminal in Caticlan, take a tricycle to Caticlan Jetty Port, fare is roughly ₱150 ($3) per tricycle, good for 2-3 passengers. Travel time is approximately 10 minutes.

Where to stay in boracay.

During my multiple visits in Boracay, I stayed at different hotels in different areas. One is located in Station 3, another in Diniwid Beach, and there’s also one in Station 2.  The most convenient  is the one at Station 2 of course, but I also liked my stay at Diniwid Beach it is quiet and the sunset was really great. Meanwhile, what I like about my hotel at Station 3 is, it’s inexpensive.  But my personal favorite is the one hidden in Bulabog Beach – Ferra Hotel and Garden Suites because it is spotless and has excellent customer service.  You can read my full review through the blog link below.

It’s just a tricycle away from Boracay White Beach or about 15-minute walk. Bulabog Beach is where most of the watersports are happening, thus, this is where watersports shops are condensed. It is the best spot for kiteboarding and kitesurfing.

Mention Boracay and the image of White Beach with Willy’s Rock immediately comes to mind.  This jaw-dropping beach has powdery white shore lapped by a beautiful blend of blue and mint water. Tourists from all over the world are drawn to White Beach, which is now dotted with hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars, and souvenir shops. It is usually pretty busy during the summer months. White Beach deserves its fame, it boasts of the finest sand and definitely one of the best beaches I’ve visited in the Philippines. Even its seafloor has powdery sand, which makes it ideal for swimming.

White Beach is divided into 3 Stations: Station 1, Station 2, and Station 3.  Station 1 and 2 has finer sand compared to Station 3, and it is where most mid-ranged and luxury hotels are located.  That’s where you can find the posted boy of Boracay – Willy’s Rock.  Meanwhile. Station 3 is where most budget hotels are concentrated and is pretty popular to backpackers in Boracay.

How to get to White Beach: Take a tricycle to D’Mall.  From there, you can walk to Boracay White Beach Station 1, Station 2, and Station 3.

2.Boracay Island Hopping

If you still can’t get enough of Boracay, there are many beaches and isles sprinkled around this tiny island.  And the best way to get there is by hiring an outrigger boat or joining a Boracay Island Hopping Tour.  Island hopping boats can Boracay can accommodate 25 to 45 persons, depending on its size. You can join a Boracay Island Hopping Tour that typically costs ₱1,000 ($20) to ₱1,500 ($31) per person depending on the agency.  The group tour usually includes buffet lunch and roundtrip transfer to your hotel, entrance fee is typically excluded, you may have to pay separately.  The Boracay Island Hopping Tour usually includes a visit to:

• Puka Beach – Free entrance
• Crocodile Island – ₱20 ($0.41) entrance fee
• Crystal Cove – ₱300 ($6) entrance fee

Important: Always verify the meet-up point with the travel agency, especially if your hotel is NOT located around White Beach. Because usually the meet-up point is at D’Mall, which may be far from Yapak area or Diniwid Beach.

3.Boracay Land Tour

  If you want to explore other far more peaceful Boracay beaches without taking a boat, you can do so by hiring a tricycle for ₱500 ($10), good for 2-3 persons.  Alternatively, you can also rent an ATV for ₱800 ($17) – ₱1,000 ($21) per unit, good for 2 pax, and visit Mt. Luho Viewpoint. I took a tricycle tour during my last trip to Boracay and I enjoyed it, especially the view of Boracay from Mt. Luho Viewpoint.  The farther beaches of Boracay are undeniably more tranquil and still retains the appearance of a fishing village.

Usually ₱500 ($10) for a chartered tricycle, good for 2-3 persons. Just walk up and talk to a tricycle driver in Boracay. Discuss first the places you want to visit, the duration of the tour, the rate (per tricycle), and how many persons can the vehicle accommodate (pre-Covid19, it’s usually 2-3 pax).  Make sure you agree with the price and duration of the tour before hopping inside the vehicle for the Boracay Land tour.

Boracay is a highly commercialized beach destination, it is crowded and crammed with water sports for adventure seekers. Here’s some of the water sports you might want to experience while in Boracay:

Boracay is well-known for its delicious fruit shake, and Jony’s Fruitshake is the original in the island, founded in 1982.  I was lucky enough to meet the amiable owner of Jony’s Fruitshake – Mr. Dionisio “Jony” Salme, who also owns Maya’s Restaurant, Pig Out Bistro, Jony’s Resort, and Jony’s Boutique Hotel. Jony’s Fruitshake is also served at Maya’s Restaurant and Pig Out Bistro.

Mang Jony is the long-time President of Boracay Business Foundation Incorporated (BFI), an organization of business owners in Boracay. He told me how he arrived in Boracay, back in March 2, 1972, when there was no electricity yet in the island. Back then, Boracay is still virtually empty, occupied mostly by Ati and Tumandok indigenous people, and a few foreign backpackers who visit the island occasionally. Mang Jony, who is originally from Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, worked for the Elizalde Group of Companies. But due to the land grabbing issues during the Marcos era, he was assigned to Boracay by his boss to manage the properties of Elizalde Family like the age-old D’Mall and a local radio station. Since there was no electricity yet, they use a generator. Jony’s Fruitshake started when an Austrian Dutch Backpacker who visited Boracay had a blender with him and sold him the blender when he went back to his country.  Apparently, the young guy got tired because there was no place to charge his blender.  Since they have a generator, Mang Jony eventually bought it, but said it was pretty expensive to maintain it since they had to travel all the way to Kalibo, which takes a whole day, just to buy gasoline for the generator to run the blender, to buy ice, and to buy fruits. Fortunately, a co-worker gifted him a refrigerator powered by kerosene where he made ice.  Soon enough, foreign tourists started lining up for his fruit shakes. He then added Mexican food to his menu, like tacos and burritos, since that’s what the foreigners like back then. He set up umbrellas and tables along White Beach, and the rest is history.  Today, you can get Jony’s Fruitshake beside Maya’s Restaurant and at Pig Out Bistro.

6.Boracay Food Trip

Boracay may not be the best place in the Philippines to go on a food trip, but it sure has a handful of relaxed restaurants and cozy cafés that serve both unfussy and creative dishes. Also, take note that because of Covid-19, many restaurants, cafes, and bars have closed. Here’s some of my personal favorites:

  Pig Out Bistro

  If you are wondering what Boracay looked like before the arrival of tourists, a huge mural painting inspired by one of the remaining old photos of Boracay taken by Dieter Schrottmann can be seen on the wall of the Pig Out Bistro in Boracay. But aside from the painting, what draws tourists to this tiny café is its ingenious food. Take for example the fresh oysters from Aklan, like the Oyster Mignonette, which, as its name suggests is garnished with mignonette sauce to balance out the brininess of the oyster. My favorite is the Green Oyster relished with herbed compound butter. And there’s also Oyster and Pearl, savored with egg roe, cucumber, and dill. If you’re in a group, try the seafood platter composed of grilled prawns, octopus, and gindara , oyster mignonette, baked oyster, steamed clams, and garlic steamed clams.

Maya’s Restaurant

This good old restaurant has been in Boracay since 1982, it was founded by Mang Dionisio “Jony” the same year as Jony’s Fruitshake. Maya is derived from the local name of a bird and the name of the indigenous people of Mexico – the Mayans, because the resto serves both Filipino and Mexican cuisines.

The palm-fringed Maya Restaurant is a beach-front diner located in White Beach Station 1 in Boracay, in front of Jony’s Hotel and beside Jony’s Fruitshake. It exudes an airy, tropical atmosphere and the interior is decked with modern-designed rattan chairs where you can sit snugly while sipping your favorite Jony’s Fruitshake.

The dishes here are also created by Chef Jun Salme of the Pig Out Bistro. The Mexican flavors include: Tacos Al Pastor , comprised of homemade fresh corn tortilla, slow-cooked pork, avocado, beans, onions, and cilantro rice. The Carnitas Burrito was inspired by the shared recipe of a former Mexican Ambassador to the Philippines.  Meanwhile, some of my favorite Filipino cuisines at Maya’s Restaurant are the Kansi – softened beef bone marrow stewed in lemon grass, ginger, and batwan , and of course, the Lechon Kawali – the popular pork belly served in small kawali , which is oven-steamed to preserve the crunchiness of the skin and the juiciness of the fat.

  The sunset of Boracay is legendary.  It is a big attraction on the island, while enjoying your fruit shake or beer at a beach-front café or a nearby swanky restaurant.

But if you want an extraordinary sunset watching experience, try the Boracay Paraw Sailing tours during sunset.  In the Philippines, “paraw” is a term for small boat with two katig (outrigger) that is propelled by sail. And there’s a plethora of paraw boats on the beach of Boracay used for sunset watching activity.  Paraw can accommodate up to 8-10 persons. Basically, you will ride the paraw and glide along the cerulean sea during sunset. Book ahead below to reserve a seat.

8.boracay pub crawl.

Boracay is well-known for its night life.  Back in the days, during my first time in the island we met some friendly fire dancers who took us to local bars in the island where locals party like there’s no tomorrow. Nowadays, if you’re into party scenes, best to join the Boracay Pub Crawl where an experienced local guide will take you different popular bars in Boracay and get free shots and special drinks at every stop while still enjoying different activities.

9.buy boracay souvenirs.

For a beach destination, Boracay is surprisingly a shopping haven, oozing with boutiques, souvenir shops, restaurants, cafes, and bistros. Its compact downtown area is perfect for shopping, strolling, and people-watching at an outdoor cafe. There are also souvenir stores in Puka Beach selling all kinds of beach outfits and Boracay souvenirs made of local materials.

  While in Boracay, you can actually make day trips to neighboring tourist destinations.

Cliff Diving at Ariel’s Point

This popular tourist destination in Buruanga, Aklan is hugged by emerald and turquoise water and swimming holes hemmed in by rock formations. It’s often crowded with tourists, mostly foreigners, who want to try cliff diving from its 5 different diving boards starting at 3 meters to 15 meters high. If there’s one day trip from Boracay that I would recommend, it’s Carabao Island. I’ve spent a few days in this tiny quiet island, far from the trappings of commercialization, and I loved it. But if you don’t have much time to spend, you can book a day tour to Carabao Island.

BORACAY TRAVEL TIPS AND REMINDERS

Remember that you are only a visitor in Boracay, so, please, follow their rules and regulations for your safety and other people.

• Only 6,000 persons per day are allowed in Boracay.
• Urinating, defecating, vomiting, and spitting in public areas are prohibited.
• Dogs and other animals aren’t allowed to roam freely in public areas and beaches around Boracay.
• Visitors can only smoke at designated areas.
• Open fire and use of kerosene gas aren’t allowed on the shores of Boracay, that’s why fire dancers can only use LED lights.
• Flying a drone is not in Boracay.
• Building of sand castles in Boracay are prohibited. If caught, you may be jailed for it. This activity is prohibited because it may interfere with the natural terrain of the beach, resulting to prolonged presence of irregular contours which affect the natural symmetry of the beach.

Boracay Travel Requirements (Updated)

Updated boracay travel requirements (as of 01 february 2022).

As the island of Boracay opens its doors to tourists once again after its rehabilitation (and now as COVID-19 cases are on all-time low), the local government of Malay, Aklan has since set up different Boracay Travel Requirements for people who plan to visit the island.

As the Municipality of Malay is under GCQ Alert Level 2, Boracay has then eased its requirements for visitors, also eliminating the Negative RT-PCR Swab Test and S-Pass Registration prior to arrival to the island, as per Executive Order No. 001-A of Aklan Provincial Government.

List of Boracay Travel Requirements per Category

*Starting February 1, 2022, only fully-vaccinated individuals are allowed to enter Boracay Island .

*Persons with comorbidities shall not be allowed to enter Boracay.

* For tourists , port of entry shall be through Godofredo P. Ramos (Caticlan) Airport ONLY.

*For Locally Stranded Individuals (LSI), Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROF), and Authorized Persons outside of Residences (APOR) traveling by air shall ONLY enter via Kalibo International Airport.

For Non-Aklanon Tourists

• Proof of Identification with Philippine Residency
• A Copy of Confirmed Booking Slip / Form from a Boracay Accommodation Establishment with DOT CAO (for the full list of Accredited Accommodations, click here )
• Round Trip Flight / Travel Details (Only Caticlan Airport can be used by those traveling by air as per IATF Resolution No. 74, S. 2020), and;
• VaxCert PH COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate with Full Vaccination Status from vaxcert.doh.gov.ph , OR:
• Locally-issued Vaccination Card / ID with full vaccination status and with verifiable QR code; or
• Locally-issued Vaccination Card / ID with full vaccination status and with Certificate of Vaccination from issuing Vaccination Center; or
• If using private vehicles, please upload a photo of car plate;
• If taking public transportation, use the Certificate of Undertaking for Travel Details template in aklan.gov.ph under “Tourism” or you may click here
• In the absence of the above mentioned, Negative RT-PCR Result with date of extraction 72 hours prior to date of travel

For Travelers

• Travel Order / Travel Authority for private and government APORs

• Notice of Coordination / Acceptance from Municipality of Destination issued by the office of the Mayor
• Philippine Government-issued ID with Aklan address

Here are the Boracay Travel Requirements for Minors aged 12 – 17 years old entering as a tourist or otherwise must present, in addition to the requirements for the issuance of a QR code, any of the following:

• VaxCert PH COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate with Full Vaccination Status from vaxcert.doh.gov.ph ; or
• Locally-issued Vaccination Card / ID with full vaccination status and with Certificate of Vaccination from issuing Vaccination Center with contact details
• Minors below 12 years old are no longer required to present any of the above nor they are required to submit a Negative RT-PCR test result before being issued QR codes
• Minors MUST BE accompanied by their parents or guardians

Whether you wanna rage till dawn with shots of Tanduay or just curl up your toes in the sand with a good book, my complete guide breaks down everything you need to know for smooth sailing to some of Asia’s most drop-dead gorgeous shores. Oh, and I’ll also share with you some useful Tagalog words . Sound great? Then let’s do this!

Boracay Travel Requirements

Proof of vaccination.

Before you break out the summer jams playlist and fantasize about sunset strolls on White Beach, fully vaccinated tourists should make sure their vaccination certificate is in order! That means having your WHO International Certificate of Vaccination and Prophylaxis (very official sounding, I know). Or, at the very minimum, pack that vaccination card or certificate issued when you got your shots back home.

Double-check that your doses and boosters are valid and up to date per Philippine Government guidelines before traveling. As of 2024, two primary doses plus a booster is the standard. Bring along complete records, as spot checks are likely during your travel journey and hotel check-in.

I definitely did that whole panic-pat-down realizing my vax card was buried somewhere in my carry-on bag through airport security! Not a stress-free moment, but a small price to pay for paradise. Trust me, the Philippines are strict with their health and safety protocols.

And while rules are gradually relaxing, it’s wise to still pack a few KN95 masks in case certain venues or activities require them. Oh, and if you managed to skip getting any shots, it’s unfortunately no entry to Boracay yet.

Negative RT-PCR test

Now for those partially vaccinated tourists, all hope for a Boracay island vacay isn’t lost! But there is an extra hoop to jump through beforehand.

To visit the island, you’ll need to take an RT-PCR test no more than 72 hours before your flight departure. And it needs to obviously come back negative. These tests detect the main coronavirus strain and some variants with a nasal swab or saliva sample.

The catch is that the test must be administered and certified by one of the Philippine Department of Tourism’s accredited labs. Check out the full list of approved test facilities on the DOT website so you get the right one. We’re talking high-precision, internationally-certified labs here!

Once you get your results (paws crossed), print out copies to present at each checkpoint – airports, the Caticlan jetty port, hotels, etc. Going the extra mile shows you’re a responsible tourist committed to keeping Boracay open and safe in this in-between time!

Confirmed Hotel Or Resort Booking

Given Boracay’s reopening rules, make absolutely sure any hotel or resort you book has current DOT certification to host tourists. We’re talking an official Certificate of Authority or Provisional Certificate to Operate.

I definitely almost made the mistake of reserving a cute boutique place from an old listicle online before double-checking. Whoops! Thankfully, a quick scan of their website and socials showed they are part of the accredited Boracay hotels. Crisis averted!

Most spots advertise their DOT certificates openly to attract foreign visitors who do research (smart thinking, go you!) But if you’re not sure, drop them a friendly email or DM asking for confirmation.

The last thing you want is to show up fresh off the ferry, ready to check in, only to get denied with invalid stay vouchers. That’ll throw a wrench in even the most relaxing vacay mood!

Double and triple-check that your passport meets Philippines visa requirements with at least 6 months minimum validity. As a tourist, you’ll likely qualify for visa-free entry of up to 30 days but don’t leave it to chance! So do your homework confirming all those fiddly visa qualifications and durations specific to your home country. The last thing you want is to scrap the whole trip!

While your passport is absolutely essential for entering the Philippines and Boracay, I’d recommend bringing another ID as a backup. Consider it a just in case!

At various points in your travel journey – airport check-ins, security queues, hotel arrivals – you may need to present identification. And carrying just your passport around everywhere increases risks of damage or loss. Not to fearmonger! But I’ve heard one too many horror stories from fellow wanderers.

So be sure to tuck another government-issued ID in your carry-on or safe storage. Driver’s licenses, national identity cards, and student ID cards can all work. I usually stash my license as a backup since it has my name, photo, and birth date.

Pro tip : Snap pics of your passport/ID and save them somewhere accessible offline, like your phone gallery. Worst case, you have the key details available if anything happens to the physical copies before reaching paradise.

Tagalog Words For Your Boracay Entry Needs

Among the diplomats who came was Megawati DatoPaduka Haji Manan of Brunei, Agus Widjojo of Indonesia, Dato Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino of Malaysia, Lai Thai Binh of Vietnam, Imtiaz Ahmad Kazi of Pakistan, Sadre Alam of India, and Wallace Minn-Gan Chow of Taiwan.

Halal food is any food deemed permissible under Islamic law, as defined in the Quran.

Department of Trade and Industry data indicate that there is a $3.3 global market for Halal food.

The Global Tourism Business Associations organized the business forum in cooperation with the Department of Tourism, the Aklan provincial government, and the Malay LGU.

Widjojo of Indonesia told the Rappler in an interview that Halal food is not just meant to be safe to eat by Islams but also of Christians as well.

“It can be eaten practically by anybody and is safe,” he said.

Western Visayas Tourism Director Crisanta Marlene Rodriguez said that they will coordinate with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to provide Halal food orientation to restaurants on the resort island. For several years, the DOST has been conducting food safety training for several restaurants in Boracay.

Malaysia’s Castelino, meanwhile, said that while they support the call to offer Halal food, he would like to improve airports, especially for Boracay.

In 2014, Air Asia introduced the Kuala Lumpur-Kalibo International Airport and vice versa. However, this was suspended at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, when travel was mostly restricted.

“I will ask AirAsia what the current status is now and the possibility of its resumption,” he said.

Indian ambassador Alam said that India has the potential to attract tourists from abroad. He said that there is a lot of potential for Indian tourists to go to Boracay, but he hopes the Philippine government will waive the visa requirements.

“Our Indian nationals are eager to travel to the Philippines but many of them are having difficulty going to the country because of the needed visa,” he said.

Malay Mayor Frolibar Bautista said that he welcomes the development as he hopes that this would attract more foreign tourists to come to Boracay.

According to the Malay Tourism Office, at least 630,648 tourists visited Boracay from January 1 to April 15 in 2024. The Malay LGU targets 2.3 million tourists this year 2024.

Flying With Dogs or Cats? These Are Airlines’ Pet Policies

American recently relaxed its rules for pets traveling inside the cabin with their owners. Here’s what the major U.S. airlines require to travel with a pet.

Flying with a pet can be expensive and confusing, with fees, weight limits, carrier size rules and the need to make sure there’s no loud barking (or meowing) on board.

Recently, American Airlines relaxed its pet policy to allow passengers to bring a carry-on bag in addition to a pet in a carrier, and more private flight options have been emerging in recent years for pet owners who can afford them.

Still, flying with large or medium-size dogs can be tricky, and many travelers are wary of leaving a pet in the plane’s cargo hold.

For those traveling on the major carriers with their pets as carry-ons, here’s what to know about each major domestic airline’s policy.

Southwest Airlines

On Southwest, a Dallas-based carrier, two checked bags can fly at no cost, but not pets. Southwest charges $125 per pet carrier on its flights.

Dogs or cats are allowed to travel below a seat in an approved carrier — up to 18.5 inches long by 8.5 inches high and 13.5 inches wide — according to the airline .

Southwest has a few caveats for those traveling with pets: The pet must stay in its carrier during the flight, and the carrier is considered a personal item or carry-on bag.

Up to six pets are allowed on Southwest flights. Once six pets are booked onto a flight, no further customers may add a pet companion to their booking.

United Airlines

United Airlines has no weight or breed restrictions for cats and dogs as long as they are in an approved hard or soft-sided carrier, measuring 17.5 inches long by 9 inches tall and 12 inches wide for a hard carrier, or 18 inches long by 11 inches tall and 11 inches wide for a soft carrier.

United charges $125 each way for travel with pets. There is no fee for service animals on United flights, but some forms are required before the flight.

The carrier must fit under a seat, and where a passenger is allowed to sit can vary according to the type of aircraft. For example, people traveling with pets cannot sit in emergency rows. If you’re traveling with two pets (the maximum allotted), you are required to book two seats.

Delta Air Lines

Small dogs and cats can travel on Delta Air Lines flights as long as they can fit inside a carrier stored below the seat. The size of the carrier depends on the aircraft, but in general the airline recommends a soft-sided carrier no larger than 18 inches long by 11 inches tall and 11 inches wide.

Your pet must be at least 8 weeks old and small enough to have some room to move around in the carrier, which must have ventilation openings on three sides.

Delta charges $95 for pets traveling as carry-on companions, and the passenger can bring only one personal item along with the pet. Certain seats cannot be booked for travel with an animal, such as those in an emergency exit row.

American Airlines

American Airlines allows cats and dogs to travel in a carry-on container, which must remain under the seat in front of the pet owner throughout the flight. The airline recommends a soft-sided carrier that measures 18 inches long by 11 inches tall and 11 inches wide.

The fee for a carry-on pet on a domestic American Airlines flight is $150.

Flights are limited to seven carry-on pets, not including service animals, and American Eagle flights are limited to five carry-on pets, with one in first class. There is no charge for service animals flying on American flight, but the airline requires forms to be filled out in advance.

The airline said in a statement that it had recently changed its cabin pet policy to allow customers with a pet to also bring either a personal item or carry-on bag stowed in the overhead bin (but not both).

“We made the change to provide a more convenient and comfortable experience to customers whose pets fly American,” the airline said.

Spirit, JetBlue, Frontier and Alaska

Spirit allows dogs and cats on its flights in a carrier no larger than 18 inches long by 14 inches wide and 9 inches tall for a fee of $125. The weight of the pet and the carrier cannot exceed 40 pounds, according to the airline .

Small dogs and cats can fly on JetBlue for fee of $125 each way , in an approved carrier. Up to six pets are allowed on JetBlue flights.

Frontier allows pets on board for a $99 fee each way, as long the pet fits in a carrier. Passengers can have only a personal item or carry-on in addition to their pet carrier.

Pets can travel in a carrier on Alaska Airlines flights for a fee of $100 each way. A passenger can travel with a pet carrier and a personal item, or a carrier and a carry-on bag.

Private or charter flights

Those who take their pets on private or charter flights, which can cost many thousands of dollars, have much more leeway. Dogs that weigh less than 150 pounds can sit on seats.

BarkAir, a charter operator tailored specifically for those flying with dogs, charges about $6,000 for a dog and its owner to travel, with flights between New York and Los Angeles and New York and London. Carriers are not required, and dogs can sit on laps, seats or beds.
