This means that each sailing starts and ends here, which is excellent because not only is Hong Kong accessible, it’s also a fantastic destination packed with family-friendly attractions. This means you could also have a grand time before or after the cruise. It’s also quite easy to find budget-friendly flights to Hong Kong.

From Hong Kong, the ship will sail to another destination (in most cases). Depending on what route you choose, you could also explore a completely different destination in another country like Vietnam, China, or Japan .

If you’re more interested in the ship rather than another destination, you could also go on a 2-night weekend getaway aboard Resorts World One. The ship will be in high seas the entire time and won’t be making any stop elsewhere. It will just sail back to Hong Kong after. This is also the most budget-friendly option, making it ideal for those who just want to try cruising.

On our most recent sailing, our ports of call were Nha Trang and Da Nang in Vietnam, which was fantastic because I had never been there before. This wasn’t our first sailing with this particular cruise ship. We have been onboard twice before, back when it was still Superstar Virgo , which was designed with the Asian market in mind. In 2019, after a major refit, it was reintroduced as Explorer Dream . Most recently, after Resorts World Cruises took over operations, it is now known as Resorts World One, with Hong Kong as its homeport for now.

I didn’t realize it at first. The makeover gave it a new, fresher, cleaner look. But its heart and soul remain the same. Resorts World One’s workforce is 80% Filipinos, which are undoubtedly the best workers both in seafaring and hospitality industries. This also makes it an ideal first-time cruise experience for Pinoys. While the majority of the market is from Hong Kong and mainland China, being surrounded by Pinoy staff will make you feel right at home.

How much is a Resorts World One cruise?

You could go on a cruise for as low as HKD 1250 (USD 159.75, PHP 9080) per person , as of this writing.

This rate is for one person who is part of a group of four (4), staying in an Interior Room, on a 2-night Hong Kong-Sanya sailing. The price of the Interior room including port charges for 4 pax is HKD 5000 (USD 639, PHP 36,320) . Divide that by four, and you’ll get the price above.

If you’re a couple or a group of two (2), the cheapest I found is an interior room also on a Hong Kong-Sanya sailing at HKD 3400 per room (USD 434.52, PHP 24,690). Per person, that’s HKD 1700 (USD 217.26, PHP 12,345) .

Here’s a summary:

These are the cheapest rates I found at the moment. But note that the price of the cruise depends on four factors: the booking date, the travel date, the route, and the stateroom you choose.

Let’s talk about booking dates first. Much like flights, pricing is dynamic. Cruise companies, especially Resorts World Cruises, like giving away discounts and other freebies. For example, right now, there is an Early Bird promo wherein you could have a third or fourth guest join for free . This is how I’m able to afford to cruise with family!

Different travel dates have different prices, too. Expect the dates surrounding Christmas and Chinese New Year to cost significantly higher than others.

The route matters as well. In general, longer routes cost more.

Finally, the stateroom you select determines the price of your booking.

What is the best room to book?

There are four main types of accommodations aboard Resorts World One:

• Interior Stateroom : smallest, no window
• Oceanview Stateroom : with a window allowing a view of the sea
• Balcony Stateroom : with a balcony
• The Palace suites : the most luxurious options

We’ve seen all these types, but we’ve only tried sleeping in two of them: Oceanview and Balcony staterooms.

The Balcony Stateroom gives the best value for money. It’s not too big or too small. The balcony adds more space to move around. The Oceanview Room is good, too.

But if you have just enough budget for an Interior Room, go for it . Don’t drop the idea of cruising altogether just because you can’t afford the best rooms. In my experience, we spent most of our time outside the room — going on shore excursions, pigging out at the restaurants, and exploring other amenities.

Whatever stateroom you choose, even though you could book any of these for up to 4 guests, I highly recommend that you limit the number of guests to only 3 per room. I feel like four is “too cozy”. The fourth person’s bed is positioned awkwardly, blocking the way to the door and the restroom, which can restrict your movement. Trust me, I’ve tried the 4-pax room sharing before.

Each room is equipped with slip-on sandals, bath robes, and toiletries. If you’re not married to particular shampoo, soap or toothpaste brands, you may use what’s provided.

What’s included in the booking?

When you book a Resorts World One cruise, you already pay for the following:

• accommodations
• port charges (charged per person)
• access to amenities like pool, gym, lounges
• nightly entertainment including shows at the Zodiac Theatre
• ALL meals at the 3 inclusive restaurants onboard

Yes, ALL MEALS — breakfast, lunch, dinner — provided that you dine at any of the three complimentary restaurants, which are The Lido (buffet), The Pavilion (Chinese), and Dream Dining (Western and Chinese menus). Technically, it’s unlimited, even at the non-buffet places. I’ll explain it in more detail in the Dining section below.

What’s NOT included in the booking?

• Airfare to Hong Kong
• Mandatory gratuities at HKD 150 per night per person
• For Okinawa sailings ONLY: International tourist tax, HKD 55 (JPY 1000) per person
• Meals at specialty restaurants

And of course, other purchases onboard like massage and shopping.

How to book flights to Hong Kong for your cruise?

Several airlines fly from the Philippines to Hong Kong, making it one of the most accessible destinations for Pinoys. For those joining a cruise, Philippine Airlines offers some of the most ideal flights. The timings are great, with morning HK-bound flights that arrive just in time for cruise boarding (usually done in the afternoon) and evening return flights to the Philippines.

If you decide to fly on the same day of ship embarkation and disembarkation, these flights will give you plenty of allowance. As of this writing, here’s PAL’s Hong Kong schedule:

Because different routes may have different timetables and changes to the schedule may happen, always double check the cruise ship’s latest boarding/disembarkation times before you book your flight .

We flew with Philippine Airlines on our most recent Hong Kong-Vietnam cruise this year and also on our Singapore-Malaysia cruise last year. One thing I really appreciate is the generous baggage allowance that automatically comes with each booking. For Hong Kong flights, check-in baggage can weigh 35 kg maximum for Economy passengers (30 kg for Economy Saver). That should cover all your cruise #OOTDs and pasalubong.

You also get a 7-kg carry-on baggage allowance on top of it.

Often, although some flights with low-cost carriers really do appear cheap, when you start adding baggage allowance, the total cost gets close (sometimes even exceeding) PAL’s prices.

Another reason we prefer PAL is its four-star service that matches the pampering and comfort that cruises are known for. We can always rely on PAL to serve delicious inflight meals and unlimited drinks on board, already included in the booking. On our last trip, the chicken sausages and chicken rice were yum yum!

That said, it’s always good practice to book a flight scheduled at least a day ahead of the sailing date. For example, if your cruise starts on a Monday, fly to Hong Kong on Sunday or earlier for your peace of mind. But if you choose to go that route, you’ll also need to book a hotel in Hong Kong. BEFORE YOUR CRUISE

What are the requirements when boarding resorts world one.

Before your trip, make sure you have the following documents:

• Valid passport
• 2 photocopies of your passport’s bio page (same size, not enlarged)
• Cruise booking confirmation (printed or digital)
• HKD, USD, or credit card: The default currency onboard is HKD, but USD is accepted, too.

As of December 2023, online check in is now mandatory. To do that, just visit this page .

Is a visa needed for Okinawa and Sanya when arriving by cruise ship?

For Philippine-passport holders, no need to apply for a visa, even for Okinawa (Japan) and Sanya (China). The policy applies to tourists arriving and departing via the same cruise ship.

However, you must settle the international tourist tax (JPY 1000/pax) for Okinawa and the admin fee (RMB 10/pax) for Sanya.

These policies might change, so double check with the authorities first before your trip.

What to pack for your cruise

Each passenger can bring onboard a maximum of two (2) pieces of luggage, up to 25 kg each . Each bag must fit inside the cabin comfortably.

Bring clothes that will cover all your days and nights onboard. Personally, when I go on a cruise, I typically pack two sets of outfit per day: one casual set for exploring during the day, and another smart casual set for night time activities.

Each room also has sets of robes and indoor slippers. I wear these robes when I sleep, so I don’t bring additional clothes to sleep in. While each room is provided toiletries, I like using my own skincare, bath, and dental products.

Most ports of call are in the tropical zone, so the climate is pretty consistent. But Hong Kong experiences four distinct seasons. Bring light clothes from May to October, and warmer clothes from November to April.

What NOT to bring onboard?

• weapons, firearms, ammunition, explosives, and incendiary devices
• inflammable and dangerous items of any kind
• extension cord
• live animals of any kind
• any alcoholic drink, intoxicating liquor or beverage

Is there a dress code?

Casual . Unlike some cruises that require semi-formal or at least smart casual in certain areas of the ship, Resorts World One is pretty casual all over.

T-shirt and shorts are generally accepted everywhere. A few restrictions are implemented at some restaurants and establishments, mostly prohibiting slippers or flip-flops and swim suits.

That said, it wouldn’t hurt to dress up and achieve your #OOTD goals. We packed at least 2 sets of garments a day: one set of light clothes for touring, and another for the evening shows.

ON BOARDING DAY

Resorts World One uses the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal in Hong Kong. Here’s the full address with contact numbers:

How to Get to Kai Tak Cruise Terminal

Here’s how to get from the Hong Kong International Airport to Kai Tak Cruise Terminal:

• At the Airport Ground Transportation Center, board Bus A29 , bound for Tseung Kwan O (Po Lam). Travel time: roughly 1 hour. Fare: HKD 44.
• Alight at Ngau Tau Kok Station (Kwun Tong Road).
• Transfer to Bus 5R , bound for Kai Tak Cruise Terminal. Travel time: 25 minutes. Fare: HKD 7.7.
• Get off at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal stop.

Yes, the bus is the easiest mode of transportation because Bus 5R stops right in front of the cruise terminal building.

There are a few more bus routes that you could take to reach the cruise terminal, but the A29 and 5R combination is the most convenient and entails the easiest transfer.

Taking the MTR will involve multiple transfers and you’ll still end up taking the bus or taxi. The nearest MTR stop is Kai Tak MTR Station, which is a 45-minute walk away from the terminal building.

If you prefer taking a cab, taxi fare is around HKD 310 plus baggage surcharges.

How to check in and board the ship?

• Check in your bags. Upon arrival at the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal’s dropoff area, walk farther into the parking area and you’ll find the baggage check-in queue. Present your passport and they will collect your bags and tag them accordingly. You’ll also be given a claim stub with your last name. The staff will take the bags straight to your room.
• Enter the terminal building and follow the signs pointing to the check-in area. It’s located on the upper level. Find the check-in counters and fall in line.
• Check in. Present your cruise booking confirmation and passport. You’ll be handed the following: – room card , indicating your deck number and stateroom number. DO NOT LOSE THIS CARD. It serves as your room key and your credit card. If you need to access some of the facilities or purchase anything on board, you’ll be using this card. – an assembly slip , indicating your assembly station number. – landing card , only if applicable to your route Should there be changes to the itinerary, you will be informed here.
• Clear Immigration check. Once you’re checked in, follow the signs to the Immigration counters. You’ll need to present your passport and the departure card (the other page of the form you accomplished upon arrival in Hong Kong).
• Board the vessel. Take the escalators down and queue for boarding. Present your mag card. The staff will also collect your passport, which will be returned to you at the end of the cruise.
• Find your assembly station. Your assigned station number is indicated on the slip handed to you upon check in. Just follow the directions of the staff along the way.
• Wait for your room to be ready. It may take a couple of hours, so have lunch at one of the three complimentary restaurants in the meantime. After a few hours, proceed to your stateroom. You should see your suitcase/bags right outside your door.

Don’t forget to attend drill or watch the safety demo.

DURING SAILING

What are the restaurants and other dining options on resorts world one.

Resorts World One has three (3) inclusive restaurants. You could dine at any of these complimentary restaurants without additional charge . All these serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

• The Lido Buffet . The most popular, located on Deck 12, just behind the Parthenon Pool. No reservations needed.
• Dream Dining . Western and Chinese cuisines.
• The Pavilion Room . Family-style Chinese restaurant.

Both Dream Dining and the Pavilion offer full-course meals (appetizer, soup, main course, dessert) with limited selection of drinks, usually coffee and tea. Other drinks will be charged to your room.

Aside from inclusive restos, there are also specialty dining options. At these restaurants, any order will be charged to your room.

We were able to try the following:

• Umi Uma Japanese (donburi and sushi) Deck 8 Mid – We ordered donburi delights. Each order is composed of two main dishes and sides. I had chirashi don and tori katsu don.
• Blue Lagoon Asian dishes Deck 7 Mid, just beside the main lobby – We didn’t get to sample much of the menu because we would go here for the drinks. We got to try the salted egg fish skin, which we couldn’t get enough of!
• Matcha Ice Matcha-flavored drinks and desserts Deck 7 Mid, just beside Blue Lagoon – I had the matcha caramel latte (HKD 35). The matcha flavor was a bit more subtle than I expected. I also got to try the matcha brownie.

Other food establishments that are available but we didn’t get to try include:

• Mozarella Ristorante and Pizza Italian pizza bar Deck 7 Mid
• Silk Road Chinese food, fine dining Deck 7 Mid
• Palm Court Lounge with view and access to the Captain’s Bridge observation room Served drinks and a few snacks Deck 12 Fwd
• Seafood Grill Mostly drinks, with live music at night Deck 13 Fwd, above the Parthenon Pool

Some sailings also do a BBQ Night , where the parthenon pool area on Deck 12 turns into a giant barbeque party. It’s buffet-style with no extra charge, too.

What are the attractions and activities on board?

• Zodiac Theatre , one of the best assets of Resorts World One is its nightly shows, mostly a variety of graceful dances and daring exhibitions. They’re incredibly entertaining, especially the Rhythm and Balance show on the first night. Some performances showcase the talents of the ship’s crew. It has 800 seats so you may simply walk in without a reservation. But we still recommend arriving early to get the best middle seats. Deck 7 Aft.
• Parthenon Pool , the centerpiece of the main pool deck. Its Greek theme is a remnant of its Superstar Virgo days, but the entire area is painted white almost all over, giving it a cleaner, classier look. It’s open to everyone. Located on Deck 12.

• Caesar’s Slide , a loooong, swirling slide with some transparent parts, making it more exciting. It’s located next to the Parthenon pool. Deck 12.
• The Boutiques , lanes of duty-free shops on Decks 7 and 8, selling mostly fashion accessories and jewelry.

• ESC Experience Lab . The ship’s arcade. Enjoy your favorite games and virtual reality thrills.
• The Zone. If you’d rather play board games and console games instead.

• RW@Sea . If you’re interested in the other type of “gaming”, if you know what I mean. Deck 7 and 12.
• Gym . We packed gym clothes but we failed to use them because we would already average 15,000 steps per day just by joining the shore excursions.
• Captain’s Observation Lounge , a mini-museum below Palm Court, where you could learn more about the ship and see the captain and his officers at work on the Captain’s bridge.

• Grand Piazza. This is the ship’s main lobby. Some times, it hosts bingo games; other times, a karaoke music night venue. It also transforms into an open cinema on some days. And on the last day of sailing, it’s where the ship’s grand sale happens where up to 80% discounts are up for grabs.

What are shore excursions?

This is the part where you can get off the ship and explore the ports of call (city where it is docked).

Depending on your route, Resorts World One may stop at the following:

• Nha Trang and Da Nang in Vietnam
• Sanya in Hainan, China
• Manila and Boracay in the Philippines
• Naha and Miyakojima in Okinawa, Japan

Note: The 2N Hong Kong Weekend Getaway sailing does not make any port of call.

At every stop, Resorts World One offers various pre-arranged tours called Shorex (shore excursions). But you’re not required to book with them. You could also pull a DIY (do it yourself). It’s completely up to you.

• If you book a shorex , you will be joining the rest of the cruise passengers who booked that tour. The great thing about it is that you have everything taken care of for you. You will have a tour guide and a few members of the crew will join the group. They will make sure you’re back at the port in time for sailing. Meals are also often included.
• If you pull a DIY , you have complete control of your time and it’s going to be cheaper. However, make sure you’re back by the prescribed time because the ship will NOT wait for you.

What to remember when getting off the ship for an excursion?

Whether you’re exploring independently or joining a shore excursion, take note of the cut-off time . It’s also displayed on the screens all over the ship. It changes per stop. READ IT, UNDERSTAND IT, REMEMBER IT. Bear in mind that the time zone may also change, so keep the ship’s time in mind. You have to be back on board before that cut-off time.

You won’t have your passport with you when you get off the ship, so make sure you have the following with you:

• stateroom card
• a photocopy of your passport
• landing card (if applicable)

You’ll also need your stateroom card when boarding the ship again, so don’t forget it.

CHECKING OUT & DISEMBARKATION

What to do before the end of the cruise.

Most of the time (but not all the time), disembarkation is done in the morning you arrive in Hong Kong. But for a smoother disembarkation experience, there are some things you’re advised to do the day before.

• Claim your passport. The day before you arrive in Hong Kong, you can claim your passport at the elevator lobby of your deck.
• Pack your bags. Your check-in bags will be collected on your last night, up to 22:00 (10 pm). Leave it outside your door and the staff will pick it up. I usually pack all my things except the clothes I’d be wearing the next day and some toiletries.
• Settle your bill. You’ll have to pay the mandatory gratuities or tips and othe purchases you made on board before you disembark. If you feel like you won’t be buying anything else, you could already settle your account the night before to avoid the long queues in the morning.

How to disembark

On the last day, you could still have breakfast while waiting to get off the ship. And when it’s time to disembark, here’s how:

• Go to Deck 7 and follow the instructions of the staff to the gangway. Upon exiting, a staff member will scan your stateroom card or your passport.
• Undergo immigration check for arrival clearance. You’ll be re-entering Hong Kong, so you’ll be facing another Immigration Officer.
• Once cleared, make your way to the luggage claim area and pick up your bags. The bags are sorted by deck. Most bags look alike, so double check if you have the right one.

Yes. At the end of the cruise, you will have to pay the mandatory gratuities (tips), which cost HKD 150 per night per person .

Because of this, you’re not required to give any more tips to the staff. That said, if the service of the waiter at a restaurant or your room attendant has been more than satisfactory, feel free to tip. I’m sure it would be appreciated by the staff.

Here’s the easiest way to get from the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal to Hong Kong International Airport:

• Board Bus 5R bound for APM Millennium City 5 (D1). Travel time: 15 minutes.
• Walk to Tsun Yip Lane ; Kwun Tong Road Bus Stop. It should take around 2 minutes.
• Ride Bus A29 bound for the airport. Travel time: roughly 1 hours. Fare: HKD 44.
• Get off at the airport.

What are the attractions near the cruise terminal?

• Airside , a brand new 47-story commercial complex including a massive shopping mall housing countless shops, restaurants, and cafes. It also features an immersive exhibition that showcases the history of the district, from its time as Hong Kong’s main airport. It’s a great shopping stop after your cruise and before you hit the airport.

• Kai Tak Sky Garden , an aviation-themed garden featuring over 8- species of plants, mostly trees and shrubs scattered across three zones: the Garden Plaza, the Fountain Plaza, and the Lawn Plaza. It occupies what used to be the Kai Tak Airport’s runway.
• Kwun Tong Promenade , a scenic 1-km waterfront in New Kowloon, not too far away from the cruise terminal. Here you’ll find an amphitheater, a children’s playground, viewing pavilions and a musical fountain.
• Nan Lian Garden , a beautiful oasis in the middle of the vast urban jungle that is Hong Kong. It’s a classical Tang-Dynasty-style garden just next to Chi Lin Nunnery. It’s adorned with manicured trees surrounding a tranquil pond straddled by a vermillion bridge that leads to a small pagoda. You’ll also find various galleries inside its buildings. The garden is open from 07:00 to 21:00, but the exhibits are open from 10:00 to 17:00. Entrance is FREE.

Review of Resorts World Cruises Genting Dream Promotion Package on Klook

I have always wanted to try Genting Dream Cruises but my last attempt was unfortunately foiled by Olympia’s illness. When it subsequently filed for a winding-up application, I thought my hopes of ever sailing on it had sank to the abyss as well. After some shrewd corporate restructuring (depending on which side you are on), Dream Cruises returned under a new ownership structure and taken on the parent brand name of Resorts World. As I have been monitoring its cruise ticket prices for some time, I could immediately tell a good promotion if there is one. Acting decisively, I paid approx. an all-in price of S$320 per pax (including port charges and gratuities) for a 4-day 3-night cruise on a balcony stateroom over the Hari Raya Haji long weekend via the Klook platform. Considering that a cruise package is all inclusive (full-board), this is an attractive price that is much cheaper than a hotel staycation in Singapore. This is my review of Resorts World Cruises Genting Dream which also berthed at Port Dickson and Penang during my sailing.

1) Spanking new facilities that are under-utilised

First impression when I stepped foot on the cruise was how new it was. As shown in Diagram 1, the balcony cabin that I stayed in was clean and spacious while the toilet was of a comfortable size as well.

Despite being modern facilities, they were strangely under-utilised throughout the cruise. I soon realised that this was because majority of the passengers were there for the casino instead. As a result, my family enjoyed the swimming pool, waterground slides, high ropes obstacle, gym and other facilities to our hearts’ content.

There was minimal need to queue in line or share the facilities with other users. This meant that Olympia could use the Little Dreamer’s Club up to the 2-hour daily limit (chargeable after 2 hours) even though it has a maximum capacity of 18 pax at any 1 time.

Some of the complimentary classes offered had so little attendees it almost felt like a private class at times!

On the contrary, the casino was packed to the rafters with virtually every slot machine taken up during peak hours. Little wonder that the line to sign up for membership was insanely long.

2) Penang stopover

My family really enjoyed the half day spent at Penang. It could have been longer if not for observing the little’s one nap time. Unlike at Port Dickson the day before, Genting Dream called at Port Swettenham directly. This meant that we could disembark and board anytime without having to wait for scheduled tender boats.

Once on land, we avoided all the land tour packages and car rental services as they were severely overpriced. We got around Georgetown with Grab and each trip never cost more than RM15 even with wet weather surcharge! Like most tourists, we went on a food tour and sampled great local hawker fare such as chendol, oyster omelette etc. Of course, we returned to the cruise not only with our stomachs full but also hands full of local goodies and souvenirs.

As a tip for travelling during the Covid pandemic, you will save plenty of time by downloading and registering on the MySejahtera mobile app before departure.

What Can Be Improved

Apart from the positives, I also find that there are certainly areas for improvement for Resorts World Cruises.

1) Check in and Check Out process

We were issued a check-in time of 1pm and expected to check in at this time as I had already completed the online check-in. When we arrived at Marina Bay Cruise Centre promptly at 1pm, we were greeted by 3 long queues outside the departure hall. It didn’t help that passengers with later reporting times were also allowed to join the snaking queues.

We finally received our boarding pass and room keys after waiting for 45 minutes and thought that this marked the end of further waiting. To my disappointment, the operator made all the passengers wait inside the departure hall as the cruise was not ready for boarding. After an almost 2-hour ordeal, we finally reached our staterooms at 3pm.

Checking out was an equally cumbersome affair as the operator held everyone up in holding areas before progressively releasing the groups. I understand that this is to stagger the passengers and minimise bottlenecks. However, I felt that this was not completely necessary. Based on my experience cruising with Royal Caribbean , there is usually no congestion as most passengers would have their own preferred times to depart the ship between the 3 or 4-hour window after arrival time.

2) Too many activities/facilities require additional payment

I also found that there were way too many activities and facilities that required additional payment. For instance, I completely understand if a fee per game is levied to bowl in the dark as I imagine that this will be highly popular if it is made free of charge.

However, I find it slightly off-putting when fees are being levied for exercise classes, dance parties and performances:

• $35 fee is charged for HIIT classes in the gym
• $20 entrance fee to Bollywood Blast Party
• Up to $80 VIP tickets for Dream Boys Performance.

Let’s not forget that these tickets were also heavily advertised throughout the cruise to ring up sales. I was not entirely convinced and did not part with my money to enjoy these paid attractions.

3) On-board entertainment

During our 4-day cruise, 2 complimentary shows were available at the Zodiac Theatre during our 4-day cruise:

• 1) Yin. Yang- At best, this felt like watching (insert Country) Got Talent. At worst, this was a mishmash of disparate performances with no central theme running through it. Think acrobat, face-changing opera, Western pop dance etc.
• 2) Love Matters – This was really good and helped to salvage the previous night’s disappointment. Interaction was high, genuinely funny and audience was engaged and enrapt throughout.

I am optimistic that with time, Yin.Yang will be better because I have the nagging feeling that the show was hastily put together to accommodate whichever performers/artistes that decided to stay with the new ownership. Overall, I would rate the on-board entertainment a mixed bag.

I always feel that a big part of a cruise experience is about the food although this may not hold true for Genting Dream’s target audience. There are a few plus points when it comes to the food offering on Genting Dream.

The Lido is a certified Halal international restaurant which makes Genting Dream a viable option for Muslim travellers. Overall, the Malay and Indian food offered here would be the better cuisines, but I would suggest skipping the Western and dessert sections. Outside of meal times, The Lido also serve snacks but these are largely plain congee or processed food that are deep fried.

Genting Dream whip up good Chinese food at the Dream Dining Room Upper. In the mornings, I also enjoyed dim sum with hot tea. Even though this is a sit-down concept, feel free to order second helpings if the initial round of food is not sufficient.

Western food is offered at Dream Dining Room Lower and there’s nothing much to shout about. Let’s just say that I have had better omelette at army cookhouse.

Klook Promotion

Bookings for Resorts World Cruises are currently powered on Klook’s platform where the full itinerary for the particular date is available for viewing. My experience redeeming the vouchers was relatively straightforward.

A week before travelling, Klook reminded me to perform online check in . I also arranged for ART tests via the platform. The only negative was that cabin staterooms were randomly allocated. Since I had booked 2 staterooms for my family of 4, I contacted Resorts World Cruises after booking to request for them to be adjacent or at least on the same deck.

Besides taking advantage of the promotion on Klook, I could also triple-stack the following promotions to reduce my purchase price further:

• Take advantage of ongoing promotion codes – eg: Get $25 off with GrabPay
• Activate Shopback to receive 3% cashback. Cashback is enhanced during special dates such as 7.7 sale
• Offset purchase price with existing Klook coins

As a result, I paid an all-in discounted price of $320 per pax for 3 nights of sailing which I consider as a fantastic deal given the food and entertainment that I had on the seacation.

After this review, I have now officially sailed on Quantum of the Seas , Spectrum of the Seas and Genting Dream to destinations that ranged from “Nowhere” to Malaysia. That should complete the grand slam 😀

Based on my recollection, check in timing will be emailed to you a few days before your actual trip. I did not purchase any onboard beverage or credit, so i am unable to advise.

Resorts World Cruises (RWCruises.com), the successor of DREAM CRUISES (DreamCruiseLine.com) is the newest cruise line brand of Lim Kok Thai, the former owner of GHK-Genting Hong Kong (1993-founded/2022-defunct Hong Kong China -based entertainment, hospitality, and leisure holding company). GHK ordered 2 vessels to be custom-built to serve the Asian market, and specifically China. With the "Dream Cruises" brand, the corporation established a separate brand for each of its cruise market segments, the other two subsidiaries being Crystal Cruises (top-luxury, all-inclusive segment, 1988-2022) and Star Cruises (contemporary/mass-market segment, 1993-2022).

Another large Chinese cruise brand is the new company (2015-founded) Adora Cruises/CSSC Carnival China Cruise Shipping . At the following link can be found listed all CruiseMapper's news related to Dream Cruises owner Genting Hong Kong .

IMPORTANT : On January 19, 2022, Dream Cruises' parent company GHK-Genting Hong Kong Ltd (Malaysia) filed for bankruptcy. On Jan 10th, for insolvency filed the two GHK-owned shipbuilding companies in Germany - MV Werften and Lloyd Werft. On Jan 27th, Dream Cruises filed a winding-up petition with the Bermuda Court for liquidation. and the appointment of the provisional liquidators working with GHK.

Resorts World Cruises (company history and changes)

The new brand "Resorts World Cruises" (RWC) was first announced in late April and officially established in May 2022. Its owner/Chairman is Lim Kok Thay (1951-born) Malaysian Chinese businessman. He is the current Chairman of Genting Group (1965-founded holding).

Resorts World Cruises' current President is Michael Goh. His "cruise career" started in 2000 when he was appointed as both VP of Sales & Marketing (Star Cruises) and as General Manager (for Genting's Singapore office). In 2008 he was promoted Senior VP of International Sales (initially for Star Cruises), and subsequently as Genting Cruise Lines' Global Sales manager (managing Star Cruises, Dream Cruises and Crystal Cruises’ Asian sales and marketing). Michael Goh became Dream Cruises' President in 2019, and Resorts World Cruises' President in 2022 (May).

Genting Group fully owns Genting Berhad, which partially owns the subsidiaries Genting Malaysia Berhad, Genting Plantations Berhad, Genting Singapore, Genting Energy, and Kien Huat Realty. Genting Berhad is the Group's principal investment and management company, and as 2021 had market capitalization of ~USD 4,5 billion.

• Genting Singapore PLC (Genting Berhad stake 52,7%, 2021 market capitalization US$6,91 billion) is an investment company.
• Genting Malaysia Berhad (Genting Berhad stake 49,5%, 2021 market capitalization US$4B) specializes globally in leisure and hospitality, gambling and entertainment/casino businesses. Genting Malaysia owns properties like Resorts World Genting (Malaysia) and 40+ "Resorts World"-named casino resorts - including Bimini/Bahamas, Sentosa/Singapore, Manila/Philippines, Genting/Malaysia, New York City/NY USA, Miami/FL USA, Las Vegas/USA, Catskills/NY USA, Birmingham/UK).
• Genting Plantations Berhad (Genting Berhad stake 55,4%, 2021 market capitalization US$1,5B) owns plantations (in Malaysia and Indonesia), biotechnology companies and properties (via Genting Property).
• Kien Huat Realty specializes in real estate investments and development.

RWC is owned by Resorts World via its Singapore-based subsidiary TWO TREES FAMILY HOLDINGS PTE LTD (March 19, 2021-incorporated, operational since April 23, 2021) as a private company limited by shares.

In summer 2023, for all voyages departing between July 12th and August 30th (including), RWC partnered with The Lego Group (Billund Denmark-based construction toy manufacturer) to offer Asia's first-ever LEGO-themed cruises. The onboard experiences featured colorful LEGO decorations and engaging activities including taking photos with the ship's Captain and the Sailor LEGO mascots. RWC's "LEGO BUILDcation" packages (priced at HKD 288 / USD 37 pp) included a variety of themed activities and workshops, with participants receiving a special LEGO box set, a unique certificate (from the Sailor LEGO mascot) and a Resorts World Cruise LEGO certificate.

During a special voyage in 2023 (August 10-14) Genting Dream hosted "Miss Grand Malaysia 2023". Prior to the event were scheduled a meet-and-greet session, a fashion show, grooming workshops, and an outdoor party. The voyage was attended by Isabella Menin (Miss Grand International 2022) and Charissa Chong (Miss Grand Malaysia 2022), as well as by Michael Goh (RWC's President) and Sean Wong (HyperLive TV's/HyperLive Entertainment Ltd's CEO).

In February 2024, the company signed an MoU with Tianjin’s "Shan Xing Hai Su" (Convention and Exhibition Center) and Flying Pigeon Bicycle Co Ltd (bicycle company) to host the world's first Bicycle Exhibition at Sea onboard Genting Dream. The "bike-themed" voyages were scheduled to depart from Singapore on February 18th, 21st, 23rd and 25th.

DREAM CRUISES (company history)

Genting Hong Kong Ltd (1993-founded/2022-defunct) was a member of the Malaysian Genting Group. It was 17,8% owned by Genting Berhad. In addition to the 3 brand lines (Crystal Cruises, Dream Cruises, Star Cruises), GHK also owned Resorts World Manila, and Lloyd Werft shipyards (in Bremerhaven Germany ) as well as a 28% share of NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line .

Via the brands Dream and Star, Genting Cruises had the largest number of annually booked berths in Port Singapore . Dream Cruises company's President was Thatcher Brown, replaced in 2019 by Michael Goh, who was also Genting Cruise Lines' Head of International Sales.

Genting Cruise Lines' President was Kent Zhu.

Dream Cruises was the first-ever premium cruise brand based in Asia. With a heritage of regional and international cruise expertise, it was also Asia's first-ever luxury cruise line brand that catered specifically to the rapidly growing high-end Chinese travel market. The new brand was inaugurated on November 14, 2016, when Mrs Puan Sri Cecilia Lim (wife of GHK's Chairman and CEO) christened the company's first liner - Genting Dream .

The successful product breakthroughs achieved by Genting Dream set the pace for the emergence of the brand's second liner World Dream (sistership) inaugurated in November 2017 in Singapore. The vision of the new brand was to be "international in spirit and distinctively Asian at heart". The new company aimed to redefine vacation travel with transformational voyages featuring Asia's finest dining, international gourmet dining options, world-class entertainment, and exceptional service. Both ships provided a top-luxury product, ultimate comfort and authentic Asian hospitality.

In May 2018, Genting Cruise Lines signed a partnership deal with Wirecard (digital payments / online shop development company) to implement a fleetwide onboard payment system. The system ("Quick Pay") was first installed on World Dream and Genting Dream, then launched on SuperStar Virgo (Explorer Dream) . "Quick Pay" allows passengers to be in full control of their onboard money spending - including pre-authorized limits, account management, monitoring, and paying the total bill at disembarkation. The technology is based on scanning individual QR codes (during check-in, in staterooms, or via the ship's intranet network, then selecting the "Quick Pay" option. Payments can be made via Alipay (Chinese online payment platform) and the credit cards Visa, American Express, Mastercard, Diners Club, JCB, UnionPay. The mobile app allows passengers to set up pre-authorized amounts for themselves, as well as for friends and family members.

On October 19, 2018, Dream Cruises celebrated the company's 1 millionth passenger with an official ceremony held at Hong Kong's Kai Tak Terminal.

Dream Cruises was the industry's only brand that offered life-size Monopoly board gaming at sea. During a promo period in 2019 (January through March), all passengers on all voyages had the privilege to enroll in the company's tournament that featured a customized game board with properties named after the ship's signature venues.

• Along with the final's Grand Prize ("Ultimate MONOPOLY Family Game Challenge"), every game offered instant prizes (onboard credits, discounts, special deals, Chance Cards, Community Chest cards).
• Mr Monopoly (dedicated crew dressed in a captain uniform) greeted passengers during tea time and also played as God of Fortune (on Monopoly-themed voyages). Mr Monopoly also distributed chocolate coins and made appearances at onboard stage production shows.
• MONOPOLY-themed voyages were scheduled for World Dream itineraries (January 4 through March 1) and for Genting Dream (January 4 through March 24).

On May 15, 2019, Dream Cruises announced its partnership with SES Networks (US company based in Manassas VA). By this program, SES will install fleetwide its Signature Maritime Solution system providing seamless, ultra-fast Internet (fiber-like broadband) low-latency connectivity at sea. SES' system is based on O3b MEO satellites (positioned on medium earth orbits) backed up by geostationary (GEO) stations.

GHK's FY2018 (fiscal year) reported earnings featured a revenue of USD 1,6 billion (34% increase over 2017).

To finance the corporation's cruise shipbuilding program, in August 2019, GHK sold 35% of Dream Cruises to TPG Darting Ltd - Canadian subsidiary of TPG Capital (USA-based global investment company, ranked among the world's largest private equity firms). The announced price was USD 488,646 million (~EUR 440,5 million). In 2019-Q4 were sold and bareboat chartered (via sale-and-leaseback deals) two GHK-owned vessels - Genting Dream (September) and Crystal Endeavor (December).

(new) Genting Global-Class cruise ships

On March 8, 2018, at MV Werften shipyard ( Bremerhaven Germany ) started the construction of the first of two Global-Class sisterships, with scheduled deliveries in 2022 ( Global Dream/now Disney Adventure ) and 2023 (GLOBAL 2/TBN).

Global Class GHK ships have GT tonnage 208,000 tons, LOA length 342 m (1122 ft), passenger capacity 5000 (lower berths/max 9500). Global Class ships feature artificial intelligence technologies (including facial and voice recognition for expedited passenger services - boarding, disembarkation, payments), robots (performing mundane tasks), Cineplex (theme park), Asian spa complex, multiple Asian dining venues (including fast food), both affordable and premium retail shopping facilities, roller coaster, water park (with 5 slides), surf simulator. Staterooms are designed for Asian families and can sleep between 2-4 persons. Most cabins are with two (split) bathrooms. Each liner has 8 sets of escalators and 28 elevators.

Vessels' waste and water management system was provided by Evac (world's leading company building integrated waste-wastewater-water management systems). The company's Complete Cleantech Solution package includes a vacuum collection system, wastewater treatment plant, dry and wet waste treatment plant, freshwater desalination plants (based on reverse osmosis). The freshwater generation plants have the capacity to produce over 3000 m3 of freshwater per day. The contract with Evac was signed on January 3, 2017.

On January 9, 2017, was signed a contract with ABB for delivery of Azipods (power-propulsion units), automation systems and the marine software for all 5 new Genting cruise ships ordered for both brands - Crystal and Star. The 3 Crystal vessels are from the Crystal Endeavor series expedition yachts (Polar Class 6).

These are the first purpose-built ships for the contemporary Chinese market regarding onboard amenities and services (food, cultural events, shows, enrichment programs, shopping, tours/excursions. Cruise ticket prices will be affordable. In May 2019 were unveiled more Global-Class vessel details. The ships have the industry's first theme park at sea, the largest cinema at sea, the world's longest roller coaster at sea, self-guided robotic assistants, the industry's largest standard staterooms (sized 20 m2), Bluetooth cabin door locks, touch-screen control panel, smartphone-control of different en-suite functions (mood lighting, air-conditioning, etc).

Global Dream (2022-Q1) will be homeported in China (during summer) and in Australia or USA (during winter). The liner will be also seasonally deployed in Europe (Mediterranean and Baltic itineraries). A second sistership will be launched in 2021.

The financing package for both GHK Global-Class units (EUR 2,6 billion / ~EUR 1,3 billion per vessel) was structured by KfW IPEX-Bank GmbH as part of a consortium which also included BNP Paribas (France), Citibank (USA), Credit Agricole Group (France), DescriptionCredit Suisse Group AG (Switzerland) and DescriptionDNB ASA (Norway). The newbuilds were planned for assembly at 3 different MV Werften-owned shipyards. GHK's total investment in this shipbuilding project was ~EUR 3,1 billion (~USD 3,44 billion). The package was backed/guaranteed by Finnvera (Finland).

Each of the Global-Class GHK ships has a huge duty-free shopping mall (DFS-T Gallery at Sea) operated via partnership between Genting Cruise Lines, DFS and Starboard Cruise Services. DFS Group (1960-founded, Hong Kong-based travel retailer) and Starboard Cruise Services (1958-founded premier cruiseship retailer) are both subsidiaries of LVMH (1987-founded, Paris -headquartered French multinational). An interesting fact is that Genting Cruises also offer world-class spa and wellness services and also uses ancient Chinese massage techniques.

Onboard entertainment features a comprehensive Dreamscape educational and enrichment program, Crystal Life (health and wellness facilities), over 1100 m2 duty-free shopping arcade, 6-slide waterpark, ropes course, zip-line, world's first Johnnie Walker House at sea, world's first Penfolds Flagship Wine Vault at sea, private boardrooms, real-time language translation capability (up to 4 languages) in the Zodiac theatre for 400 guests.

Daily onboard activities range from outdoor games and wine tasting to inspirational speakers and world-class entertainment to enrich passengers' shipboard time. Each vessel has Genting Club - a boutique "cruise hotel" complex with a total of 142 suites offering special privileges, including European butler service and priority access.

Each Dream Cruises ship offers unique underwater excursions via 2 mini-submarines (underwater craft). They are able to carry cruise passengers deep under the sea while the ship operates in select Asian destinations. Each minisub carries 1 pilot and up to 4 passengers at a time.

In December 2017, Dream Cruises introduced on MS World Dream Asia's first "Tiffany" retail shop at sea. The fleet's new amenity also offers to purchase the exclusive "Tiffany High Tea Set". The exclusive Tiffany Afternoon Tea service is complemented with premium treats and served at the "Seafood Grill" on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

In 2017, Dream Cruises also debuted on World Dream Asia's (and the world's) first-at-sea "Dior Jewelry and Watches" retail shop. The World Dream ship also features the interactive "Scents and Spirits" (perfumes sampling and potables tasting), as well as the Make-Up Bar where passengers can experiment with the beauty industry's latest products and techniques.

In 2018, Genting Cruise Lines signed an agreement with Okinawa Agricultural Cooperatives Association and Leospo Inc. Following the partnership, on select GHK-owned cruise liners is offered Okinawa-sourced food and local produce.

The new onboard dining options include the famous Okinawa Wagyu beef and Okinawa Agu pork. The offer is available on select ships and during summer when they cruise to Okinawa. In 2018 (April through November), these premium food specialties were available on World Dream, SuperStar Aquarius, SuperStar Gemini, SuperStar Virgo. The exclusive gourmet dishes are served via specially designed theme menus. They also include the traditional Japanese dishes Shabu Shabu (with ingredients stirred in a cooking pot) and Teppanyaki (iron griddle cooked food), as well as BBQ Okinawa Agu Pork and the wok-fried Okinawa beef (with bitter gourd garlic) and Okinawa beef rib eye (with sweet plum sauce).

In July 2020, Dream Cruises debuted (on MS Explorer Dream) the "Flexi-Feast" - a completely customized shipboard dining concept that allows passengers to choose from more venues. Upon boarding the ship, cruisers receive a set of complimentary dining vouchers which can be used at designated restaurants, as well as OBC (onboard credits) for ordering meals at specialty restaurants, beverages at bars and also for room-service orders.

In December 2020, MS World Dream became the Asia Pacific's first Halal-friendly cruise liner to receive certifications from both UNWHD (United World Halal Development/Singapore) and the GVCS (Global Vegetarian Certification Services/Chennai India).

Genting fly-cruise deals

In June 2017, "Genting Cruise Lines" (consisting of the companies Star Cruises and Dream Cruises) and Asia's largest airline "China Southern Airlines" signed a Memorandum of Understanding on an exclusive "flight and cruise" partnership in China.

• The deal is for discounted fly-cruise deals on cruises leaving from port Nansha-Guangzhou - a premium travel hub and cruise homeport in Asia.
• By this strategic agreement, both China Southern Airlines and Genting combined their resources in sales, marketing, promotions, and product development, creating a competitive travel product by the new "Air + Cruise + Travel" program. The program targets both individual and group travelers.

Genting Hong Kong rail-cruise deals

In 2018, Hong Kong City introduced a high-speed train service (4-hour ride) that allows faster travel for around 300 million people from mainland China annually. With the opening of Hong Kong's MTR (High-Speed Rail / HSR) section in August 2018, the city became connected to world's largest ever high-speed train network. In November 2018, Genting Cruise Lines - the only company with year-round Hong Kong homeport deployment - launched a "rail cruise" campaign. The 2-week campaign was based on the World Dream ship (2-day weekend mini-cruise specials) and included numerous roadshows held in key MTR locations.

GHK's rail-cruise promo was via a partnership with the Hong Kong Tourism Commission. The first 1000 Dream Cruises train-and-cruise bookings on World Dream received an instant MTR train fare rebate (up to RMB 400 / USD 58 per cabin).

Guangshengang XRL (Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link) is a high-speed railway connecting Beijing with Hong Kong (Kowloon Station) via Guangzhou and Shenzhen . The largest cities connected to Hong Kong via HSR (without interchange) also include Changsha, Guiyang, Wuhan , and Nanning.

Genting Cruises Private Island Resort

In early November 2017, GHK corporation signed an agreement with the Macleod Island 's owner "Tint Tint Myanmar Group" (headquartered in Yangon Burma ) to jointly built new cruise ship facilities on this private island.

Cruise line private Islands are among the best-known assets of the world's largest cruise shipping companies ( Carnival Corporation , RCCL Royal Caribbean , NCL , MSC ). However, most such private island resorts are located in the Caribbean.

GHK's partnering with Tint Tint Myanmar Group makes Macleod Island the first Asian private cruise resort destination. It is opened exclusively for Genting cruise tourists visiting the island via ships operated by the GHK-owned Dream Cruises and Star Cruises. Among GHK's other Asian projects are Guangzhou Nansha Port development (in China) and Port Danang (in Vietnam).

Macleod Island was first visited by a Star Cruises ship (SuperStar Libra) on November 3, 2017. The 5-day / 6-day itinerary also included Penang (Malaysia) and Phuket (Thailand) .

(Coronavirus crisis) passenger shipping pause 2020-2021

Despite the global Coronavirus crisis , Genting Cruise Lines (shipowner) didn't suspend its fleet's passenger shipping operations. Instead, the company expanded its cancellation policy with "Cruise As You Wish". It allows all existing and new bookings made before or on October 30, 2020 (initially July 31), to be canceled penalty-free up to 48 hours (prior departure). These bookings were fully refunded (100%) via FCC (future cruise credit). With rebooking, the amount of the fare paid was automatically transferred to any Star Cruises or Dream Cruises itinerary starting before or on March 31, 2021 (initially December 31 2020).

On March 25, Dream Cruises announced the cancellation of the company's entire Australia-New Zealand schedule for 2020-2021. The ship Explorer Dream had voyages in the region with planned departures between October 8, 2020, and February 21, 2021. All affected bookings received penalty-free cancellations with a full refund (100%) transferred as FCC (future cruise credit) plus of AUD 250 per cabin in OBC (onboard credit) with rebooking. The refund includes fares paid, port fees, gratuities, pre-purchased (if any) shore excursions. For rebooking were opened all Dream Cruises itineraries thru December 31, 2021. Cancellations without rebooking received a full monetary refund (fare paid, port fees, gratuities, shore excursions).

Dream Cruises restarted operations with voyages from Singapore on November 6, 2020. The 2- and 3-night cruises to nowhere (marketed as "Super Seacation") are for Singaporean residents only and scheduled for the ship World Dream.

Itinerary of Resorts World Cruises

MS Resorts World One started operations for Resorts World Cruises with the Maiden Voyage departing Hong Kong on March 10, 2023. A special celebration (held onboard on March 10th) was attended by 400+ VIP guests including media, the company's local partners (travel and business), and chief managers (President Michael Goh, and COO Raymond Lim). The event featured a live performance by HKCO-Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra.

Resorts World One's itinerary program is based on short breaks from homeport Hong Kong (2-night and 3-night roundtrips) offering three voyages weekly with departures on Fridays, Sundays, and Wednesdays.

After Taiwan lifted travel restrictions on Hong Kong/ Macau residents in February 2023, on April 2nd the ship started dual homeporting adding roundtrips from Kaohsiung Taiwan .

The 3-night/4-day voyages depart on Sundays while the 2-night/3-day voyages depart on Wednesdays. The 2-night/3-day "Weekend High Seas" cruises-to-nowhere (roundtrips without call ports) depart on Fridays. Additionally, tourists embarking in Hong Kong on Sundays can debark in Kaohsiung on Mondays (for a 3-4-day stay) and re-embark on the ship on Thursdays to arrive back in Hong Kong on Fridays.

Resorts World One cruises from China to Taiwan (one-way Hong Kong to Kaohsiung) in 2023 were priced from HKD 1300 (USD 165/EUR 155) per person with double occupancy, while the 3rd/4th passengers paid HKD 650 (USD 83/EUR 78) pp. Resorts World's "Early Bird" promotion offered discount pricing (HK$300/US$38) for each of the twin-sharing passengers, with an additional HK$150/US$19) off for each of the 3rd/4th passengers. The promo was valid for bookings made before the end of March and for departures in April-May (2023) excluding only voyages starting between and including April 5th-15th.

With 2 weekly sailings to Kaohsiung from Hong Kong, the ship's 2023 schedule included a total of 78 calls to Kaohsiung. With 3 weekly sailings from Hong Kong, Resorts World's 2023 schedule listed a total of 126 port visits.

In 2023 was also added Magong/Penghu Islands (the first visiting voyage departed on April 11th). The 3-night/4-day itineraries (departing roundtrip from Kaohsiung on Mondays) visit Penghu on Tuesdays and Hong Kong on Wednesdays, prior to returning to Kaohsiung on Thursdays. Fares started from NT$6900/US$226 pp with double occupancy, with the 3rd/4th guests paying NT$3500/US$115 pp.

As a one-way Taiwan-China cruise option, tourists leaving from Kaohsiung (on Thursday) can debark in Hong Kong (on Friday) and book a 2-night hotel stay (in Hong Kong) prior to re-boarding the liner on Sunday and returning to Kaohsiung on Monday.

In winter 2023-2024 (starting Sept 24th) were introduced itineraries between Hong Kong and Sanya . Out of Hong Kong are offered 3-night/4-day voyages to Sanya (departing Sundays), 2-night/3-day voyages to Sanya (departing Wednesdays) and 2-night/3-day Weekend Getaways (departing Fridays). Resorts World One's packages included 5-night/6-day "Hainan Cruise & Land-Stay" (Sunday to Friday, inclusive of 3-night hotel in Sanya) and 6-night/7-day "Hainan Cruise & Land-Stay" (Wednesday to Wednesday, inclusive of 4-night hotel in Sanya). Resorts World Cruises also introduced homeporting in Sanya (as departure port) for guests willing to combine the voyage with domestic flights. Fares started at HK$1200 (US$154) per person with double occupancy.

In October 2023 were introduced three 5-night itineraries (Hong Kong roundtrips) visiting either Vietnam ( Nha Trang and Da Nang/Hue ), the Philippines ( Caticlan/Boracay Island and Manila ) or Japan's Okinawa ( Naha , Hirara/Miyakojima Island , and Sakishima/ishigakijima Island , visiting attractions like Cape Manzamo, Mihama American Village, Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, Okinawa World & Gyokusendo Cave, Kabira Bay, Shigira Ougon Onsen hot spring).

In summer 2024 (June 16th through July 1st), Resorts World One was homeported in Tanjung Priok Port ( Jakarta, Java Indonesia) . The schedule listed 6-night/7-day roundtrip itineraries visiting Singapore and  Port Klang (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) . Prices started from IDR 10 million (~USD 640) per person based on double occupancy, with 3rd and 4th passengers in the same stateroom traveling for free.

Genting Dream itineraries (Singapore roundtrips)

Resorts World Cruises' 2024-2025 itineraries are roundtrips from Singapore scheduled for the period May 5, 2024, through April 13, 2025. Genting Dream 's ex-Singapore program was a revised schedule to optimize embarkation convenience with 3 departures weekly.

The Singapore homeporting allows various itineraries, including the 2-night "Weekend Getaway" (departures on Fridays), the 2-night Kuala Lumpur/Port Klang Cruises" (departures every Sunday) and the 3-night " Phuket Cruises" or " Penang -Kuala Lumpur Cruises" (every alternate Tuesday).

Additionally, voyages from Port Klang/Kuala Lumpur are available every fortnight, featuring the 3-night "Singapore-Penang Cruises" (departing on Mondays) and the 4-night "Singapore Cruises" (departing on Thursdays).

(DREAM CRUISES) Explorer Dream itineraries

Genting Dream (Dream Cruises' first newbuild) was homeported in Singapore (starting December 3, 2016) as the first large-sized (151300 GT tons) liner based there for year-round turnaround operations.

The company offered 2-night weekend itineraries and alternating 5-night (Sunday departure) voyages out of Singapore to ports/destinations in the Straits of Malacca and Java Seas (Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam).

The 2-night Weekend Cruise departed every Friday.

The 5-night "Straits of Malacca Cruise" itinerary served the popular Kuala Lumpur/Klang-Penang-Phuket route. Departures were every Sunday on odd weeks.

The 5-night Indonesian itinerary was in the Java Sea ( Surabaya and North Bali) with departures every Sunday on even weeks. Surabaya's Port Tanjung Perak has max draft 14 m and a cruise terminal.

Passengers were able to combine the above "Straits of Malacca" and "Java Sea" itineraries into a 12-night B2B/back-to-back itinerary , with the option of spending the weekend either on the ship or in a Singapore hotel.

New itineraries visited port destinations in the South China Sea and the Java Sea.

Later, Dream Cruises offered more options for travelers embarking in Singapore by updating Genting Dream's 2-night Weekend Getaway with optional Bintan Island shore tours. The enhanced summer itinerary provided a new alternative for exploring the nearby island resort.

Passengers had a comfortable alternative to visit Bintan during the weekend when hotel rates are higher and, with 12 hours of in-port time between 8 am (7 am local time) and 8 pm (7 pm local time).

Located ~1 hour off Singapore's southern coast, Bintan Island is a tropical getaway highlighted by white-sanded beaches, an impressive list of hotels, quaint seaside villages, and resorts offering various watersport activities. Bintan is the largest of a total of 3,200 islands making up the Riau Archipelago of Indonesia and possesses an eclectic mix of cultures and ethnicities, such as Malay, Chinese, Bugis, and native tribes.

Bintan Island water and shore activities include wakeboarding, snorkeling, kayaking, and off-road ATV tours. For golf enthusiasts, it offers world-class courses designed by the most famous stars of the game. Shore trips range between SGD 50-70 per person, golf packages range between SGD 150-190 per adult (prices also include ferry ticket from the cruise ship to Bintan Island).

Cruisers who prefer to explore Bintan on their own can arrange a Free & Easy Expedition (SGD 30 per guest) with inclusive ferry service and bus transfers to/from Plaza Lagoi Bay in the Resorts area.

The liner World Dream/now Aroya Manara started operations for Dream Cruises in November 2017 (Singapore to Hong Kong ) and in February 2023 was sold to Cruise Saudi.

• World Dream ship's itinerary program was based on China roundtrips from homeports Hong Kong and Guangzhou (Nansha Port) , also operated with fly-cruise deals to Vietnam and the Philippines.
• The 5-night / 6-day itineraries visited the Philippines ( Manila and Boracay Island ). The other set offered 5-night / 6-day itineraries to Vietnam ( Saigon / Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang ).
• The ship also offered the 5-night cruise to Japan (Sundays departures from both Nansha and Hong Kong). The itinerary visited Naha and Miyakojima Island (with 2 sea days) and returned to Nansha and Hong Kong on Fridays. This China to Japan voyage ended with "Dream Night" - the company's traditional for every 5-night voyage laser and fireworks show at sea.

Starting operations for Dream Cruises in April 2019, Star Cruises' SuperStar Virgo was renamed Explorer Dream and homeported in Shanghai (China) . For the winter 2020 season, Explorer Dream was planned for deployment in Australia New Zealand. Following the Coronavirus pandemic peak in Asia, Dream Cruises became the first major company to resume voyages - with Explorer Dream, on July 26, 2020. The Taiwan island-hopping itineraries were scheduled from homeport Keelung and to visit the islands Penghu , Matsu, Kinmen, Hualien .

In late September 2020 was launched the "Discover Taiwan" itinerary program (on Explorer Dream) with short breaks (1- to 5-night roundtrips out of Keelung) to Anping Tainan, Penghu, Kaohsiung , Hualien, plus scenic cruising around Guishan Island (Yilan) and Keelung Islet.

Shorter sailings (3-4-night roundtrips) visited Penghu, Kaohsiung, Hualien. The 2-night roundtrips visit only Anping (Tainan). Explorer Dream's "Discover Taiwan" also offers 1-night cruises (around Keelung Islet and Guishan Island) and 2-night scenic voyage to Ishigaki Island .

High-end pools without high-end prices: A guide to resort day passes

Editor's note: This is a recurring post, regularly updated with new information.

Do you have dreams of your family going down waterslides while you relax by a fancy heated pool with a cocktail, but you can't justify a whole vacation spent paying for an expensive resort just to sit by the pool for a day or two? There's an app for that. Or rather, there are websites that sell day passes to popular resorts so you can stay wherever you want, but play at the poshest pools around.

My family uses these sites to book resort days on cruises when we are in ports we have already explored extensively in the past. However, this day pass system is far from reserved for cruisers. It is alive and well in places like Miami and Hawaii , too, where most folks arrive by plane. Using a resort pass, you could stay at an Airbnb or more budget hotel and then spend a day of your vacation living it up at the pool and beach of a pricier resort. Or, you could book a day pass as part of a "staycation" closer to home, since even some hotels in metro areas such as New York City have pool day passes available.

My colleague, Betsy Eccles, was in need of a reset recently and tested out a day pass at Walt Disney's Swan Hotel in Orlando. Here's her report:

"While working alone in Charlotte has its perks, I recently decided to venture out and come work remotely in Orlando for a month. Being a big Disney fan (annual passholder and all) Orlando just seemed like the right place. I was able to find a rental close to the theme parks, and with mild February temperatures, thought it was the perfect time to come. Unexpectedly, Orlando is unseasonably warm. Seeing that it was going to reach almost 90 degrees last weekend, I knew a day at the parks would be way too hot to be enjoyable. Ironically enough, I saw an Instagram ad pop up for ResortPass, so I checked it out. It had the [Disney] Swan and Dolphin resort listed as a potential place to get pool access.

"For $25, I was guaranteed a reserved chair at the pool of my choosing (they have a few), access to the fitness center, pool bar and grill. When I arrived, I followed the instructions (ResortPass' pre-communication was excellent) and checked in. I was escorted to my chair and given the rundown of everything. I stored my backpack in one of the lockers in the fitness center right beside the pool, so it wasn't in the sun all day. They've made it easy with the ability to walk up to the pool bar to order drinks or use mobile ordering from your chair for food and beverages. After a few hours of sun and cocktails, I showered in the locker room (which was very clean and updated), changed into other clothes and headed to the theme park.

"It was a wonderful experience and I cannot recommend it enough. I even tried to book again for Sunday, but they were already sold out, I did rebook for a day in two weeks with my friend who is coming to visit. It's a great option for those that don't have annual passes, and are being a bit more money conscious [but] still want a Disney-esqe experience.

"As for masks, you do not have to wear one in the pool or while laying out in your chair (all chairs are spaced apart), but do [need to] wear one walking to the bar or bathrooms. Everyone did a great job of following the guidelines, and I felt safe."

How does a resort day pass work?

With a resort day pass, you typically pay a flat rate — either per person or per cabana — that includes access to the hotel's recreational amenities. Some passes kick it up a notch in the value department to include a food and beverage credit for on-site dining venues and/or transportation to and from the port if cruisers are the target demographic.

Some resort day passes even include a private hotel room for your family's use during the day. In more urban areas, the pass may only include use of the pool and/or fitness center. (Spa passes are also available for adults.)

It's best to reserve your day passes in advance since they are capacity-controlled. If you just show up at the resort, you might be turned away if its allotment of passes has already sold out for that day. Most often, the resort's recreation department handles day pass clients, so you'll usually check in at the recreation desk near the pool or in the spa/fitness area.

Apps and Sites That Sell Resort Day Passes

There are a handful of sites that sell resort day passes. Start with a search of these sites:

ResortPass : Perhaps the gold standard among resort day pass purveyors for U.S.-based hotels, ResortPass works with the major hoteliers, including Hilton, Hyatt (including Miraval), IHG, Marriott (and many of its brands from The Ritz-Carlton to Moxy), Omni, Fairmont, Four Seasons and more. Day passes start at $25 per person.

This site works with many resorts right here in the U.S., including in California, Florida, Hawaii, Arizona, Texas and New York. If you sign up for its newsletter, you'll be notified when new hotels are added.

Its list of overseas options was meager — just six Mexico resorts and eight in the Caribbean. So, if you're looking for day passes beyond the U.S., one of the other options below will be a better fit for you.

Daycation : While Daycation's footprint is smaller than ResortPass, it's got some nice options in the U.S. and beyond. Resort brands include Kimpton, Fairmont, COMO, Marriott, Hilton, Park Hyatt and others. With Daycation, you can purchase day passes as well as rent cabanas.

In the U.S., most of Daycation's resort day pass options are in Florida with more than a dozen options in the Miami Beach area. Some of the standout options in that area are the Tidal Cove Waterpark at the JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa ($65/day), and SLS South Beach (day passes starting at $40 per person or cabanas for up to six people starting at $375).

If you're outside the U.S., here are some of the standout offerings:

• Bahamas: Breezes Bahamas Resort & Spa, British Colonial Hilton Nassau and Warwick Paradise Island Bahamas.
• Caribbean: Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina, Autograph Collection (British Virgin Islands), The Westin Punta Cana Resort & Club (Dominican Republic), Bay Gardens Beach Resort (St. Lucia), Eagle Aruba Resort & Casino, and others.
• Costa Rica: Selina Manuel Antonio, Selina Puerto Viejo, Selina Santa Teresa and Selina La Fortuna.
• Mexico: Selina Cancun Lagoon Hz, Selina Playa del Carmen, Allegro Cozumel, Melia Cozumel Golf and Occidental Cozumel.

DayPass : If you're looking to spend a day at an all-inclusive or luxury property, DayPass may have what you're looking for, though its inventory isn't very extensive.

It includes destinations such as Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the Middle East; Indonesia's Bali, Thailand's Koh Samui and Singapore in Southeast Asia; Punta Cana and San Juan in the Caribbean; and Miami Beach and Port St. Lucie in Florida.

The day passes on offer are interesting though. Properties of note include the InterContinental Abu Dhabi (from AED 99 per day), the Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife (from 40 euros per day) and the Park Hyatt Siem Reap (from $30 per day).

Closer to home, check out the all-inclusive day pass to the Club Med Sandpiper Bay in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. It's $120 per person and includes lunch, dinner and all the resort's amenities, including four pools.

Resort for a Day : You need to be a cruise traveler to book a resort day pass from this company.

Its portfolio includes resorts in Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic, Antigua, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Cabo San Lucas and Cozumel in Mexico, Curacao, Grand Cayman, Grenada, Hawaii, Jamaica, La Romana in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Vallarta in Mexico, San Juan in Puerto Rico, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St. Martin – and even a few resorts in Florida cruise ports like Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

While Resort for a Day usually sells Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark passes, day passes can currently be purchased in advance directly from the resort .

Day Passes : The sister site to Resort for a Day, Day Passes is for non-cruise travelers but offers access to many of the same resorts.

Essentially serving the same destinations as Resort for a Day listed above, Day Passes has some standout resorts, including all-inclusive and adults-only options, that will make for the perfect day in the sun. In Jamaica, for example, two Hyatt all-inclusive resorts are available, Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara, both starting at $132 per adult. In Bermuda, the Elbow Beach Resort is available at $74 per person.

A real-world example in Miami

When TPG studied the lists of resort day passes that can be purchased across the above-mentioned services, we were impressed. There are some terrific options for families that will allow them to punch above their weight class and use a day pass to gain access to some pretty cool resorts.

I was interested to see Tidal Cove Waterpark was available as a day pass from several of the companies we've talked about. Marriott spent millions renovating The JW Marriott Turnberry Resort & Spa and it added this incredible waterpark in the process. The kids' pool is 4,000 square feet, and there are seven waterslides, a FlowRider surf simulator, a meandering lazy river and 25 luxury cabanas. This could be the perfect way to spend a pre-cruise day if you're departing on a Disney Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean or Carnival cruise out of PortMiami. ResortPass, Daycation and the DayPass all offer day admission to Tidal Cove Waterpark, though we noticed different pricing across the companies. ResortPass had certain dates starting at $55 per person for a Resort Membership Day Pass but that rate fluctuated between $125 and $250 for various weekends throughout 2021. DayPass and Daycation rates seem to also be between $125 and $250 any day of the week. Across the board, kids under 3 are allowed in free and taxes and fees may differ across the companies.

JW Marriott own entry rates to the waterpark start at $55 for guests when access to the waterpark isn't already included in the room package.

This resort just unveiled the waterpark and there are some decent packages available to stay on site. However, later in the year, the per night cost creeps up. At that point, you may be better off staying somewhere like the Holiday Inn Port of Miami – Downtown, less than 2 miles from PortMiami, from around $150–$170/night and then buying a pass to spend your pre-cruise day at the waterpark.

Call the Resort Directly

If you're traveling and want to book a day pass at a resort but it's not listed at any of the booking sites, don't give up. Call the hotel directly and inquire about the availability of day passes. That approach has worked for my family in the past and it's also a great opportunity to negotiate for the hotel to throw in a day room if you're visiting during low season. It never hurts to ask.

Right now, some resorts have capacity restrictions due to COVID-19, so you may need to call more than one resort to find one with availability on your preferred date.

Bottom Line

Depending on where you're traveling or how your family prefers to spend its vacation days, a resort day pass may be a terrific solution. Day passes can also be a terrific way to sample a resort to determine if your crew would like to vacation there at some point in the future – or to simply have a great afternoon at the pool.

If you choose to dine in for western cuisine in the formal restaurant, please do not wear informal attire. For male guests, at least wear long pants or jeans, no shorts, sleeveless shirts, travel shoes or sandals will be allowed; for female guests, no shorts, sandals and camisoles is allowed.

Normally, a welcome cocktail party and other special parties that are specially designed for interested customers will be held. All guests are required to wear formal attire for these events.

Except for the above mentioned occasions, you can wear casually onboard at any time!

What to do?

Daily notifications will be put up at every corner on the cruise. Moreover, the cruise crew will put a detailed daily itinerary inside each guest room. Except for the standard and fix activities, there are other special activities as well and they differ from day to day. What a pity to miss out on any of them! So please remember to check the agenda every day!

Take for instance, Royal Caribbean offer high standard performances such as magic shows and concerts delivered by famous artists from all over the world every day. If your children prefer playing than to watch performances, you can always let them go to the children room. These rooms are divided into different age groups and your children will definitely have a great time playing there!

How to pay?

As you check in, you can link your credit card to your room card. For every purchase you make onboard, you only need to show your room card. Payments will be automatically deducted from your credit card as your journey ends. There is no need to bring cash onboard.

Tips: The staff provide excellent service but they will not accept tips under any circumstances. However, their performance will be assessed based on the feedback from the customer survey forms that you will fill up when you leave. You can show your appreciation by giving them positive feedbacks!

What does my payment for the trip include?

Accommodation, 3-5 meals daily and some inclusive entertainment are included. Majority of the public facilities are free.

(Zodiac Theatre /Rope course /Rock Climbing /Waterslides /Sportsplex / Mini Golf /Jogging Track /Gym etc) **Swimwear and Coverd shoes required! 

What can I bring onboard?

There is no need for you to bring any food or water because food and drinks will be provided for free onboard. You can pack food from restaurants or those stalls with 24-hour food and water supply and consume in your own room. There is also 24-hour hot drinking water supply onboard if for the need of the elderly customers. Please remember not to bring any liquor with you to the cruise!

Two cruise lines (Royal Caribbean Cruise and Genting Cruise) have been given the green light to offer cruises to nowhere from Singapore starting next month, giving Singaporeans their only option for a year-end overseas holiday.

Genting Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean International will be part of a “safe cruise” pilot scheme that will cater only to Singapore residents, at a reduced capacity of 50 per cent.

On 10 March 2023, Resorts World One commenced her maiden voyage from Hong Kong. Resorts World One also provides multiple 5-Night cruises to Okinawa, Vietnam and the Philippines departing on selected Sundays.

Is Resorts World One a newly built ship or a rebranded existing ship from the industry?

Resorts World One was formerly the Explorer Dream (under Dream Cruises), a 75,338 gross ton 13-storey high cruise ship that features 928 rooms, which can accommodate over 1,856 guests with world-class cruise facilities. The ship will undergo a rebranding exercise under Resorts World Cruises.

Yes, Resorts World Cruises bookings for Resorts World One are open to all Hong Kong residents / non-residents / international travellers.

What are the boarding requirements for Resorts World One under Resorts World Cruises?

Hong Kong residents will require a Hong Kong identity card to cruise. Non-Hong Kong residents and international travellers will require Valid travel documents with a minimum validity of 6 months and valid visa (where applicable). Additionally, all residents should provide a photocopy of their passport and the cruise confirmation slip.

What preventive measures are taken to ensure crew members are COVID-19 free?

We would like to assure you that the safety and well-being of both our guests and crew is our number one priority. All our crew signing on are fully vaccinated and we will continue adhere to the local requirements and guidelines.

In terms of air ventilation is there any recirculation of air on the ship?

Both Genting Dream and Resorts World One ship design enables 100% external fresh air to be filtered and supplied to the cabins and on board public areas – ensuring a constant and healthy flow of fresh air throughout the vessel with no recirculation of air between cabins within the ship.

Will there be any medical officers on board that are specialized to handle any potential COVID-19 outbreak? Also is the ship well equipped with the medical facilities?

Our on board medical team, which include nurses, doctors and an Infection Control Officer (ICO) on board are certified to manage any emergency or medical crisis with a well-equipped medical facility, including Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) machines for on board COVID-19 testing.

What are the measures in place to ensure the virus is contained should there be an infection on board?

Guests will have the option to cancel their bookings 48 hours prior to the departure date and will be entitled to Future Cruise Credit via their original booking source.
