Customize Safari Toolbar, Favorites, Tab, and Status Bars

Like many applications, Safari lets you tweak its interface to suit your preferences. You can customize, hide, or show the toolbar, bookmarks bar, favorites bar, tab bar, and status bar. Configuring these Safari interface bars to suit the way you use the browser can save you time and effort.

The toolbar runs across the top of the Safari screen, where the address area is. Here's how to add and remove items to your liking.

From the View menu, select Customize Toolbar .

Select an item you want to add to the toolbar and drag it to the toolbar. Safari will automatically adjust the size of the address and search fields to make room for the new item(s). When you finish, choose Done .

Try adding iCloud Tabs to easily continue browsing sites right where you left off when using other Apple devices. Select Text Size to add the capability to change the size of text on a page quickly.

Alternatively, right-click in an open space in the toolbar and select Customize Toolbar .

You can adjust a couple of other things very quickly, too:

• Rearrange icons in the toolbar by clicking and dragging them to a new location.
• Delete an item from the toolbar by right-clicking it and selecting Remove Item from the pop-up menu.

If you get carried away with customizing the toolbar, and you're not happy with the result, it's easy to return to the default toolbar.

Click and drag the default toolbar set from the bottom of the window to the toolbar.

Click Done .

Safari Favorites Shortcuts

Apple changed the name of the bar from bookmarks to Favorites with the release of OS X Mavericks . No matter what you call the bar, it's a handy place to store links to favorite websites.

Hide or Show the Bookmarks or Favorites Bar 

If you don't use the Favorites bar or want to gain a little screen real estate, you can close the bar. Simply select View > Hide Favorites Bar ( or Hide Favorites Bar , depending on the version of Safari you are using).

If you change your mind and decide you miss the bookmarks bar, go to the View menu and select Show Bookmarks Bar or Show Favorites bar.

In OS X Yosemite and later: Web page titles no longer appear in the toolbar area of the Safari browser if you have the tab bar hidden. Displaying the Tab Bar allows you to see the current page title, even if you don't use tabs.

Like other browsers, Safari supports tabbed browsing , which lets you have multiple pages open without having multiple browser windows open.

If you open a webpage in a new tab, Safari will automatically show the tab bar. If you want the tab bar always to be visible, even if you only have a single web page open, select View > Show Tab Bar .

To hide the tab bar, select View > Hide Tab Bar .

If you have more than one page open in a tab, you'll need to close the tabs before you can hide the tab bar. Click or tap the Close button (the little "X") in a tab to close it.

The status bar displays at the bottom of the Safari window. If you let your mouse hover over a link on a web page, the status bar will show the URL for that link, so you can see where you're going before you click the link. In most cases, this isn't important, but sometimes it's nice to check a URL before you go to the page, especially if the link is sending you to a different website.

• To display the status bar, select View > Show Status Bar .
• To hide the status bar, select View > Hide Status Bar .

Experiment with the Safari toolbar, favorites, tab, and status bars to find what works best for you. Generally, you'll find that having all the bars visible is most helpful, but if you need to maximize your viewing area, closing one or all is always an option.

Customize the Safari browser window on Mac

You can change the layout of Safari bars, buttons, and bookmarks to suit your browsing style.

Open Safari for me

Use the Favorites bar

Show the status bar, customize the toolbar.

Change the items in the toolbar: Choose View > Customize Toolbar, then add, remove, and rearrange toolbar items by dragging them. For example, you can add an iCloud Tabs button that shows a list of webpages open on your other devices that have Safari turned on in iCloud preferences .

Quickly rearrange toolbar buttons: Press and hold the Command key, then drag buttons right or left. This shortcut doesn’t work for the Back/Forward, Sidebar, Home, History, or Downloads buttons, or the Smart Search field .

Remove a toolbar item: Press and hold the Command key, then drag the item out of the toolbar.

Show or hide the toolbar in full-screen view: While in full-screen view, choose View > Always Show Toolbar in Full Screen.

Customize the tab bar

Choose where to put tabs.

Compact: Tabs move up to the toolbar. The active tab is the Smart Search field .

Separate: Tabs remain in the tab bar, under the toolbar.

How to Set Safari's Address Bar to the Top or Bottom of the Screen

During the beta phase of iOS 15, Apple added a new Safari design element that moves the URL and tab interface to the bottom of the screen, a decision that was immediately controversial with iPhone users.

If you can't get on with the address bar living at the bottom of the screen and would prefer to have it in its original position at the top, like it was in iOS 14, follow these steps.

• Launch Safari on your ‌iPhone‌.
• Tap the " aA " icon in the left side of the address bar.
• Tap Show Top Address Bar in the popup menu.

You can also control this design change in Settings -> Safari , under the "Tabs" section. To take the URL bar to the top of the Safari interface, select Single Tab .

To much scams…please READ!

So whenever I use this app/ Safari it get these trackers and scammers to get my location and this is making me nervous. I installed ad blocker I think it’s called and I blocked some trackers which made me feel better. Every time you search something you usually get a scam or tracker. I do not like when people track me down. I rarely use this app because of the scams and risks. I think it is an OK app in general because it’s the people making these small BAD websites. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because it could use work but it is pretty much like google. I use google way more because I feel like it is much safer than safari. I could be wrong… Safari could use some work with all these BAD websites. Can you block these bad websites? I would love to block these websites cause they are scary. Also watch out for nine anime/ 9anime websites… I searched up 9anime on safari and clicked a link. It looked safe but then these inappropriate pop ups kept coming. I immediately got off. I checked my ‘ How much trackers we have prevented’ or whatever it’s called it said that it had prevented 14 trackers from getting my IP address. This was good and bad news. I’m glad that safari and google can prevent these trackers but it is bad because this is dangerous. BE CAREFUL ON SAFARI!!!

Your Underrated Prince, Safari

In my humble opinion, Safari is the underrated king among multiple web browsers on the market. I was a PC devotee from ‘95 to ‘16, since then, it’s been all Tim Cook 🍎 all the time. My only regret is not purchasing a smartphone back in ‘07 from Steve Jobs. Presently, I own an iPhone 6s Plus in rose gold (2016), iPad Mini (2016), iPad Pro (2019) & MacBook (2018) in rose gold with matching Beats By Dre headphones. All four are set up with Safari, not Chrome, TOR, Brave, Edge, or DDGo. I love the ability to quickly save favorites, add to reading list & share content to other platforms. My favorites are alphabetized for quick reference & the reading list keeps all articles & pages in chronological order for quick recall. Also, I learned Safari quickly because it’s extremely user friendly. The browser helped my navigation of Apple when switching from PC. I’ll admit, learning MacBook isn’t easy, but, Safari keeps things familiar for me on the desktop. When lost, just go back to Safari & start over. It’s surprising no one in tech media mentions Safari more often as a go to source for navigating the internet. Chrome is the reigning king of, Land Of Browsers, without an heir apparent. I nominate Safari as the prince with future king potential. Citizens of Land Of Browsers don’t like their chrome-plated dirty laundry aired, sold or tracked.

This new layout is better IMO, but there are a few other problems that kinda bug me

Unpopular opinion, but this new layout is better. I don’t even remember the old layout since I’m not even a long-time iOS user (this is my first iPhone). I looked up the old layout or the “cascade” layout and it looks more painful to me than the new one. By the looks of it, it’s definitely easier to miss a tab you’re looking for in the older version, and then you will have to spend like 10 more minutes scrolling to find the tab you’re looking for. Sure, it may be “faster”, but it’s definitely harder to find the certain tab you’re looking for if most of the tabs are only viewable by a little area at the top. This app is mostly fine except for a few problems I get from time to time. Today I’m having a problem where I was trying to look at some Google images and then I tried to look at more but it was just stuck on loading. It wouldn’t even finish loading. This happened only on like 2 searches thankfully though. I’d probably give it a 95% since it has some minor lags and problems.

Summary: below average and bland food, difficult parking. 2 stars only because Adrian was great! Visited because my grandfather was looking for enchiladas and his usual place was closed. Apparently on Thursdays they have live music (pretty loud so don't count on having a conversation). They have a super small parking lot in the rear however tenants of the neighboring apartments take up all the spots. So good luck driving around you'll need it to possibly find a place to park in the evening. Our server Adrian was great, and was kept on his toes by the other guests but was always friendly and responsive when we asked him for something. The food: The appetizer we ordered was guacamole, this was delivered in a small molcajete, but was not good at all. The avocados were definitely not ripe and left a sour taste in our mouths, we thought maybe adding some lime and salt to it would change the flavor but we were still disappointed and chose not to eat it at all. Entrees: I ordered a combination plate which came with beans and rice. You can either choose 2 or 3 items, I decided to do 1 cheese enchilada with green sauce, 1 asada taco, and 1 chicken taquito. My grandfather got the 3 cheese enchiladas with green sauce and my boyfriend got the Asada burrito. We all agreed that the beans and rice had no flavor at all, they definitely forgot to add salt to this, but even when we added it ourselves, it still wasn't up to par. The chicken taquito was okay but nothing special, the Carne Asada meat itself was pretty tasty, and my grandfather and I liked the enchiladas. We probably wouldn't return as the parking is extremely difficult and the food was less than average.

This is a hidden gem! I was here for their Thursday night happy hour and had their delicious cucumber margarita. For dinner I had their delicious beef Birria . It came with rice , beans and tortillas. Very delicious. The meat was very tender. Rosie, our waitress, was friendly and welcoming . We're differently coming back for their Sunday Brunch.

Haphazardly came across this place, walked in for a quick breakfast/ brunch meal on Sunday Although they had a buffet set up, we opted for alacart. Torta Gigante de asada is as the name states, giant! I got thru half of it and it was delicious! The slices of pickled jalapeños added a nice bite and the wonderful waitress brought me more jalapeños. Taco de pescado, breaded fish with a wonderful spicy mayo sauce on top Tostada mixta- by far one of the best mariscos I've had in quiet some time. The octopus was AMAZING!! not chewy at all and the combination of the other seafood: shrimp and fish was well balanced. I could have added tapatio but by the time that came to mind I had devoured the 3 tostadas it came with. Huevos con tocino (bacon and over medium eggs) just thinking about it makes my mouth water. The eggs were cooked to perfection. Served with rice and beans. We unfortunately missed the 1pm drag show, however we left with a positive impression and looking forward to going back. Ambiance is casual and the patio area looks like a great place to have a drink on a summer night. Looking forward to having a real drink next time around

Excellent food and great service, I was looking for a place the have pozole, this place has green and white pozole, I have never tried either one , so I decided to go for the green one it was excellent, I'm happy decided to try, we also try the mar y Tierra molcajete , The guacamole is so tasty and they serve plenty of food. The food and service were fantastic. However, it's a bit of a dive, but I like a good dive and this one fits the bill. Everything we ordered from the al pastor torta gigante to the shrimp burrito to the chicken mole enchiladas, was delivery and the portions are huge.

Randomly came across this spot during Ciclavia! Huevos rancheros 5/5 runny yolk, tostada like, bomb. Chips & chunky salsa complimentary! Atmosphere & Decor 5/5 - front outdoor patio, dog friendly! Drag shows at 3pm with mexican buffet Great spot to this neighborhood, great 80's music right now Sunday morning. Would definitely come back!

So glad we tried this neighborhood spot! Can't beat a $5 margarita and appreciate a happy hour that goes til 8p! I got the chicken tacos (suave/soft) which were delicious. Their salsa has a good kick! Thank you Rosie, can't wait to come for a drag brunch. :)

The food is delicious my favorite is pozole verde and the Sunday brunch has all the good dishes the service is superb the waitress is very nice n friendly the ambiance is very nice I like to go to hear the kareokee singers n in between the DJ plays cool songs you can request what I want to hear on Sunday they have a special show they have imitadors that dress up as famous singers n perform their songs u feel like u r in a concert very nice show!!

Stop in or lunch yesterday with a business partner for the first time. The food and the service was excellent. We sat outside on the patio we were the only people out there, and the waitress never forgot about us out there at all. We'll... definitely to visit this restaurant again next time I'm in the area. We happened to be visiting family and this great Grill was in the right spot for everyone. The menu here is really varied with nice assortment of flavors. Check it out on line!! Two of our party had the ground beef steak, both said it... was juicy and the potatoes were yummy. Two of us had the taco salad. It too was very good. The chili and the loaded potato skins are tasty too! Our server was delightful and friendly. We stayed longer than the normal lunch crowd, and the chef gave us tastes of upcoming menu specials... very yummy. ( don't want to spoil the surprise) The inside of the location is full of beautiful taxidermy animals. Very clean restaurant . Highly recommend a visit. More

We visit the area a few times a year and always appreciate this place. Quality food, midwest beverage pours, friendly service, clean casual atmosphere and nice small town clientele. The prices will amaze you as will the portions. Go next door to the meat locker... and take home a feast to grill or bbq. More

Decent food, good service and reasonably priced. Lots of specimens of hunted animals on walls, sports events playing on flat panels, this isn't a tablecloth place but for the price and quality it's worth the stop.

Went in to have lunch and a drink 4 different groups of people came in after we had ordered our food and they were served before us, not sure why It took 1 hour to get an order with 2 cheeseburgers. This is terrible

We were driving from Alabama to Montana and were extremely hungry with no decent food in sight. We were skeptical because the restaurant was off the path and the name was a little weird for the location. Food was great! We got black and blue... burgers and western burgers with hashbrowns and sweet potato fries. We felt like we were overlooked because we were there before other people and our order was taken last. Located off of I-90, this local eatery has a great atmosphere and a wonderful Rib-Eye Steak Sandwich – thin cut rib-eye steak on a grilled sourdough bun with pepperjack cheese. Best food in town. Goes without saying that the small town joints have the best food. I have yet to have ordered something on the menu that I wish I hadn't ordered. You can't go wrong with this place.

Lively bar and grill. Service was excellent and the food good. My wife left her purse on the chair and called the next morning...they had it and although it was before they opened, the lady said we could come get it, she'd wait for us.
