Sarah Lynn Evans (born February 5th 1971) is an American country singer/songwriter from Boonville, Missouri, US, signed to RCA Records Nashville.

Performing in her family band from a young age before having a two-year gig performing at a Missouri nightclub at the age of 16, Sara Evans has been singing for most of her life. In 1991, she moved to Nashville to try a career as a country music artist, impressing Nashville artist Harlan Howard with her demo, leading to a contract with RCA Records, where she has remained throughout her career.

With her debut album, “Three Chords and the Truth” (1997) she received limited success initially. Although through her second album and title track, ”No Place That Far” (1998) she had created a hit, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The success of this single eventually led to the album gaining Gold certification. Sara Evans garnered critical acclaim for her neo-traditional sound, moving away from the country pop that dominated country radio’s airwaves.

It was with her third album, “Born to Fly,” that Evans was to break through to mainstream success, with the title track becoming a number one hit. She gained two further top ten chart positions with the singles “I Could Not Ask For More” and “I Keep looking,” with the album going on to being certified Double Platinum. Her fourth, “Restless,” released in 2003, continued this success, featuring her third number one single, “Suds in the Bucket.”

Evans has become a household name and veteran of the country music scene. In her esteemed career she has received several awards and accolades. She won a Billboard Video Award for Best County Music Video, as well as awards at the BMI Country Awards in 2004, 2007 and 2008, and at the 2010 Dove Ceremony.

Live reviews

Missouri songstress Sara Evans has enjoyed commerciality with her own solo recordings as well as her successful co-writing career. Despite being involved in numerous aspects of the music industry, she continues to take to the road in order to delight the dedicated and devoted fanbase who got her to the comfortable position she now finds herself in.

They cheer at large volume as the lights dim and Sara's accompanying band files onto stage followed by the lady of the hour. Beginning with a rousing rendition of 'Born To Fly' the mood is set and Evans goes about showcasing her country stylings and impressive vocal range. She is a very down to earth performer as she laughs and jokes with the crowd as if they were old friends. Sara becomes more and more excitable the louder the reactions to the likes of 'A Little Bit Stronger' and 'Suds In The Bucket'. After introducing her loyal backing band one by one, they conclude the final set with 'A Real Fine Place to Start' before returning for an encore of covers. This has a jam session style and goes down fantastically well with the crowds who get involved in a final chorus wailing of 'Just Give Me A Reason' by Pink.

I just love watching Sara Evans perform live because she sounds even better live than she does when performing in the studio. She is a country singer/songwriter that loves to sing heartfelt ballads.

The show that I saw opened with the song “I Could Not Ask for More” which was beautifully done. She took the time to talk to her audience and show her appreciation for her fans. She was so grateful and humble that I fell in love with her right there. She was dressed in the cutest little pink top and jeans, very casual but beautiful and she looked wonderful. She is easy on the eyes for sure and resembles Daisy Duke just a little bit.

I love to hear her talk almost as much as I love to listen to her sing. I was so glad that I got to see her perform live because it gave me an all new appreciation for this very talented singer. Talent like hers is hard to find. Even if you don’t love country music you will have a hard time not liking this beauty. She is a natural beauty and a natural talent. I am sure she will have a long career and keep her audiences coming back again and again!

SARA EVANS is the best ive seen and heard yet, from her first time on the grand ol opry she has amazing talent to say the least a voice like an angel that can belt out a range and sing any song from country to pop and more its like she has all the great female artists qualities in her from patsy cline Loretta Lynn Emmy LOU Stevie nicks and so many more Sara puts her heart and soul into all that she does this beautiful angel has a way about her that you feel each and every song that she sings i have never known another woman that sounds like her from the time she opens with her first song right to the last she keeps you on the edge of your seat she has perfection all about her spends many hours in the studio and long nights and days away from family to give her very best at each show along with interviews and promotions Sara is the busiest woman in country music today not just one of the greats but a legend i know it was an honor seeing her perform in IOWA and she gives it her all no matter wear she is performing Country music is blessed to have such a well talented artist

There is no doubt that Sara Evans is fantastic. Her voice is a gift from God and there is NO OTHER like her. Her voice combined with great songs is like magic. I have other singers that I like, but I love Sara. My mother's maiden name is Evans and is also from the same area, near Missouri, and when she was young, was a beauty like Sara. I am so thankful that I have seen her perform in person, and met her backstage years ago. Wouldn't you know that a young guy took my picture with her, but due to a problem with my email, when he tried to send it, I wasn't able to retrieve it.

I have grieved over not having that picture, and now it costs too much for me to get the VIP pass.

God Bless you and your family Sara Evans...You will always have a place in my heart.

Sara put on a great show. Despite having strep throat her powerhouse vocals were absolutely flawless and she performed all of her hits and a few cover tunes as well. Her performance only reinforced my opinion of her being one of the most underrated female vocalists in the history of country music.

That being said I was very disappointed in the venue which is a semi pro baseball park. Although I purchased seats in the second row behind the dugout, we were nearly 200 yards from the stage which was placed in the far end of center field.

Sara Evans gave one of the most entertaining concerts I've ever attended. Her non-stop energy level is something to see. She moved up and down the 150 foot stage at the Grand Sierra for 1-1/2 hours singing all her hits and a few pop songs as well. Her voice was exceptional and I am looking forward to her next concert in Reno.

Sara was beyond 'good'. She was amazing!! What a beautiful voice! She did an excellent job of mixing her original songs with Christmas tunes. She's a down-to-earth person with family values...no doubt! I would not hesitate to see her again! Thank you, Sara, for a very enjoyable evening in small-town Indiana. God bless! :)

Sara Evans and her band put on a great show. This was the first time I have ever hear her sing in person. What an amazing voice. The vocals with her sister Leslie were beautiful. I would highly recommend seeing her. I hope I will have the chance to see her in person again. New big fan.

I just saw her perform at the Mill Town Music Hall last night. Good show, but beware, she did NOT play “I Could Not Ask For More,” which I think is her top song. I didn’t mind the cover songs, but not at the expense of her biggest hit. Very disappointed.

Excellent performance! Sara's talent, combined with her heart-warming ability to entertain, truly gave us an emotional evening. We are amazed by her beauty and absolutely love listening to her sing! Her new album, WORDS, is definitely her best!!

ABOUT TIGIRLILY GOLD

Sister duo Tigirlily Gold has been playing music together since they could walk, and officially formed their band in high school. Growing up, they crisscrossed the mid-west, growing a fierce fan base and selling out amphitheaters across their home-state of North Dakota. After moving to Nashville, they landed a weekly residence at Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row on Nashville’s famed lower Broadway. Playing four-hour sets, three to four nights a week, the sisters developed a performance style that’s not only captivating and fun but shows just how much entertaining is in their blood.

After releasing their original song “ Somebody Does , ” in 2021, the track topped the iTunes chart and Tigirlily Gold was signed to Monument Records. They released their  self-titled, debut EP  in July 2021, working with multi-Grammy Award Winner Shane McAnally, and hit the road with artists Walker Hayes and Ashley McBryde.

Now, the powerhouse duo has embarked on a new musical chapter with their EP, Blonde –a deeply personal project that includes tales of love and loss alongside powerful anthems and songs of female empowerment. Their debut single at country radio, “Shoot Tequila,” reached the Top 40 and found viral success with millions of views across social media, and millions of streams across platforms. Their much anticipated follow up single “I Tried A Ring On” will hit airwaves at the top of 2024. After making their Grand Ole Opry debut and performing to a national audience on the “TODAY Show,” Tigirlily Gold is ready to bring girl group energy back to country music.

Sara Evans Blue Christmas Tour

Sara Evans Blue Christmas Tour

Opening Act: Everette

With five chart-topping singles (“No Place That Far,” “Suds In The Bucket, “A Real Fine Place To Start,” “Born to Fly,” and “A Little Bit Stronger”), multi-platinum entertainer Sara Evans is one of the most played most-played female artist on country radio in the last two decades. Enjoy a country holiday concert complete with traditional Christmas music as well as her greatest hits.

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and Sara Evans is about to put smiles on a lot of faces with the release of Copy That .  The 13-song collection finds Evans putting her distinctive creative stamp on some of the most iconic songs in country and pop music as well as shining a spotlight on some little known gems.

Released on her own Born to Fly Records, Copy That is Evans’ first solo studio album since 2017’s critically acclaimed Words . On Copy That she shines a spotlight on songs that have served as the soundtrack for the American experience for the last six decades. Little Big Town’s Phillip Sweet joins Evans for a buoyant rendition of the Stevie Nicks and Kenny Loggins classic “Whenever I Call You Friend” and Old Crow Medicine Show adds their unique flavor to the Hank Williams standard “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry.” Her cover of Dexy’s Midnight Runners’ 1982 hit “Come On Eileen” is absolutely infectious and her pulsating rendition of The Knack’s “My Sharona” shows a rockin’ side of Evans rarely heard.

Over the last two decades, Evans has carved a successful career anchored by her insightful songwriting and warm, evocative voice. With such enduring hits as “Suds in the Bucket,” “A Real Fine Place to Start,” “Perfect” and “A Little Bit Stronger,” she’s earned recognition as the fifth most played female artist at country radio and continues to be a force on the road with tour dates criss-crossing the country. For her ninth studio album, the Missouri native serves up an eclectic bounty of songs that have shaped her life and storied career.

“I’ve always put cover songs on my records just because I think they are so fun. My fans have been asking for a covers record for years and now just seemed like the right time,” says Evans, who has always been a champion for great songwriting and has covered Gavin DeGraw, Radney Foster and others on previous records.  “We first started out thinking we’d really change some of the songs, but then every time we started to record it we were like, ‘That part is so good, let’s just do that!’ We wanted to honor those songwriters and musicians and say, ‘What you did on this record was amazing. Now we’re just going to make it a little more modern.’”

Evans co-produced Copy That with Jarrad K — known for his work with Ruston Kelly, Weezer and the Goo Goo Dolls — at Chateau Noir in East Nashville.  “I started listening to Ruston Kelly’s album and just became obsessed with it,” she says. “That’s what I do. I obsess over different artists and listen for months. Then my whole family gets addicted to it, so we became obsessed with Ruston Kelly and I said, ‘I have to find out who produced that. I want to work with him.’”

When Evans met Jarrad, they quickly discovered they were kindred spirits.  “We just immediately bonded. He’s like my little brother now,” she says with a smile. “At our first meeting, we immediately fell in love musically.  We were talking about the Ruston record and had such a connection. We had another dinner and then we were like, ‘Let’s do it! Let’s go for it!’ So we started just sending song ideas to each other.”

Evans admits it was difficult culling the thousands of songs they liked down to the 13 that made the album.  “I knew I had to have a Patsy Cline song. I knew I had to have a John Mayer. I wanted a Wallflowers song because of how important Matt Chamberlain, the drummer, has been to my music,” she says of recording the Wallflowers’ “6 th Avenue Heartache.”  “Things are so different these days the way people make records, but Jarrad and I both agreed that we had to have everything real, everything super authentic, people in the studio together.”

That approach created magic that can be heard on every track. Evans recruited her son Avery to play guitar, which made the experience even sweeter. “The first day we did ‘She’s Got You’ and Carole King’s ‘It’s Too Late,’ and then we did Chicago’s ‘Hard To Say I’m Sorry.’ Avery ended up playing on the whole album.”

The project further became a family affair when Evans’ daughters Olivia and Audrey added their vocals to the album.  “It was so fun. I can’t even describe it,” she says with a big smile and obvious maternal pride.  “Some things are just magical and you know they are from God. I know God put me with Jarrad and having my girls with me in the studio all day every day was so special. They are truly my best friends.”

Evans admits some of the songs she chose might surprise fans, but that was part of the fun. “I was getting ready to go to my second song meeting with Jarrad and I heard ‘My Sharona’ in the car,” she says. “I was like, ‘Oh my God! We have to record that’ because it made me so happy. It’s badass! ‘My Sharona’ is worthy of being covered.  It’s so iconic and I love surprising and shocking people who can’t believe that a female would cover that.”

As a big John Mayer fan, she knew she had to record one of his songs, but opted for something lesser known and more personal. “My family was against me covering John Mayer because we love him so much,” she admits. “They were like, ‘You can’t cover anything that was really popular. It has to be something obscure,’ so that’s why I chose ‘All We Ever Do Is Say Goodbye.’ That was always mine and Jay’s song because I would travel so much.”

In early 2020, Evans and her family moved back to Nashville after spending the past 11 years near Birmingham, where her husband, retired quarterback Jay Barker, works as a radio personality.  “It’s been the best decision,” she says of returning to Nashville. “I love the fact that I raised the kids in Alabama and it was a great thing to do.  But it’s simply so much easier doing my career from here, and that’s another reason why making this album was so awesome is because I could just wake up and drive across town to the studio and not figure out how to bus up from Birmingham.”

These days, Evans is enjoying the creative process more than ever and it’s easy to hear her passion in listening to Copy That .  “I’m just having fun.  I love being on the road,” says Evans. “We’re working a ton. I’m having so much fun and am just deeply in love with music and performing.”

Country Singer Sara Evans Says She's More Scared of Being 'Fat' Than 'Anything in the World'

Sara Evans is getting brutally honest about her struggles with body image.

During her Monday, April 29, appearance on Cheryl Burke's "S--, Lies and Spray Tans" podcast, the country singer, 53, revealed her biggest fear when it comes to being an entertainer in the spotlight.

"With fame comes people's opinions . How do you handle all this?" the Dancing With the Stars pro, 39, asked Evans.

"It bothers me," the "A Little Bit Stronger" singer explained. "I won't say that it doesn't. I have an eating disorder. I'm more scared of being fat than anything in the world, and that's not good. That's not normal."

Evans said it's hard to come to terms with potentially being "judged" while on stage.

"My record label, every time I had a baby, they would be like, ‘When's she going to lose weight?’" the mother-of-three, who shares son Avery and daughters Olivia and Audrey with her ex-husband, Craig Schelske , said. "So, things like that would just get in my head."

"I'm a people pleaser," she added. "Like, if I'm skinny and I'm pretty and I did a good show , then I'm loved. And I want to feel loved no matter what."

The vocalist has always been an open book about her personal struggles. In her 2020 memoir, Born to Fly , Evans revealed she suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety and claustrophobia after she was hit by a car when she was a child.

"For six agonizing weeks, I remained in that hospital bed," Evans wrote in the tell-all. "I'd have a sudden, overwhelming feeling of pain and panic consuming me. 'I want out of this!' I’d scream, thrashing around till someone held me down and calmed me. I felt like I was being buried alive."

"I had severe PTSD and anxiety, but it was the '80s, and I didn't have a name for it," the matriarch explained in a 2020 interview. "I don't think my mother even thought , like, 'Maybe I should take her to therapy.' I thought I could handle it because I'm tough."

After struggling for years, Evans was finally prescribed medication to curb her anxiety. "It calmed me down," she continued. "Taking it also made me realize you're not going to be this way forever. I always tell my kids, 'The toll that anxiety takes on your body and on your mind, I think, is so much worse than if you have to take [medication] to calm down.'"

People conducted the 2020 interview with Evans.
