The award-winning Star Trek game casts players for the first time ever as Kirk and Spock in a totally original co-op experience worthy of gamers and fans. Set in the new canon of director and producer J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek (2009) reboot, players will be immersed in the game’s rich story and action-packed combat.

Under development by acclaimed Ontario-based developers Digital Extremes (Bioshock 2, Dark Sector, The Darkness 2), Star Trek features an original story by BAFTA award winner and God of War writer, Marianne Krawczyk, in collaboration with the writer/producers of the new Star Trek films, Bob Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof.

Key Game Features:

  • Meet the Crew – The 2009 Star Trek film cast will be contributing their voices for the game, including Chris Pine as Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock.
  • Original Standalone Story – Set after the events of the Star Trek (2009) reboot, continue the sweeping journey through the new universe with a completely original story that takes place between the 2009 movie and its 2013 sequel Star Trek Into Darkness.
  • Ultimate Co-op – Built from the ground up as a co-op experience, Star Trek packs two vastly different gameplay styles and unique character abilities into one game. The result: the most fully realized and varied co-op experience of this console generation.
  • Kirk and Spock Reborn – Play for the first time as two of the most well-known characters in science fiction, as only this new Star Trek game could allow. With the fate of the galaxy on the line, players must rely on each other to create a kick-ass team.
  • The Gorn Return – Determined to conquer the galaxy, the Gorn returns as re-imagined versions of the classic Trek villains, infecting their foes with venom that can poison, cause hallucinations, and even kill. Ranging in size and abilities, the Gorn seed mayhem and destruction as they destroy populations and deplete planets of their resources.

Welcome to the Star Trek 2013 game walkthrough! Doug will be your voice-over commentator showing you how to complete the game, tips and all. 🙂

In Part 2 of the Starbase chapter we must destroy the Gorn devices.

Part 3: Shuttle Bay & Power Station.

Tip: The infamous jumping part in this chapter might be a glitch, but it can be overcome by clicking on the left analog stick (LS) of your controller so you will run faster, and jump right at the end of the platform, then just let him grab the ledge.

Part 4: Power Cores & Relay Tower.

Tip: If you encounter the glitch where Spock won’t transport you through, then it’s recommended you reload the checkpoint, and if that doesn’t work then start the whole chapter over. Note: Restarting the chapter fixes both the glitch in this “Chapter 4: Frontier Starbase” level as well as in “Chapter 7: Gorn Planet” if you get stuck in a room/cell with no way to get out.

Part 5: Power the Antennas.

Star Trek 2013 Game Walkthrough continues on Page 2 with Chapter 5.

The game was developed by Digital Extremes , with a script written by Marianne Krawczyk , and story input from Roberto Orci , Alex Kurtzman , Damon Lindelof , and Mike Johnson . The primary cast of the films ( Chris Pine , Zachary Quinto , Karl Urban , Zoe Saldana , Simon Pegg , John Cho , and Anton Yelchin ) all returned to reprise their characters, [1] while Chad Seiter composed the game's score, adapting Michael Giacchino 's score from the films. [2]

Brian Miller, Senior Vice President of Paramount Pictures and the game's producer, has made statements that the game is canon , [3] [4] [5] [6] though these claims have been denied by Orci. [7]

Gameplay [ ]

Trek game kirk bridge

Captain Kirk and crew on the bridge

The tricorder is the primary gameplay element, allowing players to access information on various items and individuals they encounter. A successful scan is rewarded with either a playable log recorded by a character other than Kirk or Spock, or Montgomery Scott 's humorous personal opinions/anecdotes regarding the object of their study.

Kirk and Spock also each have their own unique gameplay attributes. Kirk can call down an orbital strike from the USS Enterprise , while Spock can use his mind melding ability to unlock certain cinematics. [8] The choice of character affects how non-playable characters interact with them. For example, female officers encountered in the Enterprise s hallways will flirt with Kirk while ignoring Spock. [9]

Using set blueprints, Digital Extremes shows areas of the Enterprise not shown in the film, such as the captain's quarters . The player can explore the ship and use research points collected by the tricorder to upgrade phasers , communicators , and the tricorder. [10] The game also features subterranean swimming gameplay [11] and ship-to-ship combat. Co-op can be allowed during Enterprise gameplay, with one player controlling the phasers and the other using the torpedoes . [12]

Enemy archetypes [ ]

The Gorn were redesigned by Neville Page and come in several variations, ranging in intelligence, gender, size, and color. [13] They are depicted as being skilled with biological weapons (namely a virus), which they can use to turn some Vulcans and Starfleet personnel on Kirk and Spock, through whom the player can earn commendations by stunning or nerve pinching them to take the victims down non-lethally. [14] The Gorn also deploy attack drones, turrets, and mines which can be hacked.

  • Commander: the ten-foot-tall leader of the Gorn. [15]
  • Henchman: The second-in-command of the Gorn Armada, he possesses a cloaking device and wields the Pillager. [16]
  • Rusher: Unarmed, weak, and unintelligent Gorn who serve as shock troops. [17]
  • Initiates: Front line soldiers, unarmored, wield automatic Ravager rifle, stand over six feet tall and can run on all fours. [18]
  • Lieutenants: Armored commanders of the initiates. [19]
  • Warrior: Genetically-enhanced initiates that can wield the Pillager and Arc Driver, and are equipped with basic armor. [20]
  • Guardian: Purple "Royal Guard" that wield energy axes. [21]
  • Brute: Too stupid to use weaponry, but the strongest and most heavily armored enemy, capable of smashing through cover. [22]
  • Scout: Unarmored snipers that can walk on walls and camouflage . [23]
  • Champion: A burly mutant who stands eight feet high. He is designed as a homage to the Gorn in " Arena ". [24]
  • Sentinel: Nine foot tall subordinates to the Commander, armed with Arc Drivers that can disintegrate organic matter. [25]

T'Mar

Captain T'Mar

The Enterprise receives a distress call from a space station ( β ) harvesting the power of a binary star . There is too much interference to beam the crew aboard, so Kirk and Spock take a shuttle to rescue the crew. They encounter T'Mar ( β ), a childhood friend of Spock, who explains they were gathering energy to power the Helios device ( β ), which would speed up the terraforming of New Vulcan, but unwittingly opened a rip in space. Beaming to New Vulcan, Kirk and Spock meet with T'Mar's father Surok ( β ), who explains the station's power from the base was lost after they were attacked by creatures – who call themselves the Gorn – from the Rip. Kirk and Spock enter the locked down sections of the base to recover the infected survivors, but are unable to stop the Gorn from stealing the Helios device and kidnapping Surok.

Kirk opts to take the infected to a nearby starbase instead of pursuing the Gorn commander's ship through the Rip. At the starbase, the captain meets the sleazy Commodore Daniels ( β ), who implies he gave T'Mar the specifications for the device as he knew it would create a wormhole. Suddenly, the Gorn attack the starbase and kidnap T'Mar. Just as he is about to be beamed aboard the Enterprise , Spock tackles the Gorn henchman, bringing him aboard the ship. Kirk and Spock pursue him to the shuttlebay before he can commandeer a shuttle. Spock mind-melds with the henchman, learning Surok was killed after confessing he has no insight into the device, but that his daughter would. Kirk has the henchman imprisoned .

Kirk resolves to enter the Rip. After the Enterprise enters the Gorn's galaxy, Kirk and Spock take a shuttle with Sulu and McCoy to a nearby planet. When their shuttle is shot down, Kirk and Spock use wingsuits to glide to a Gorn outpost and blow it up before infiltrating a base to rescue T'Mar. They find Daniels, who is killed in an ensuing firefight. The Gorn bring Kirk and Spock to the commander, who has them taken to an arena to fight his soldiers to the death. Angered by their besting of his champion, the commander has Spock infected to fight Kirk to the death. Suddenly, Sulu's shuttle arrives and McCoy shoots Spock with a finished antidote, while the commander flees to his ship with T'Mar and the device.

The shuttle returns to the Enterprise , which has been taken over by the Gorn. Kirk and Spock space dive to engineering and beam McCoy and Sulu back on board. They help Scotty and Keenser reactivate the warp cores , and restore power to sickbay so McCoy can replicate more of the antidote for airborne dispersal. The duo head to the bridge where the henchman is holding Uhura hostage, demanding Kirk give them control of the ship. Kirk responds by directing their shuttle to crash into the viewscreen , decompressing the Gorn into space.

With only an hour before the Rip closes, Kirk and Spock space dive to the Gorn commander's ship, where they disable the targeting platform to give the Enterprise a fighting chance, and enter the core where T'Mar and the device are being held. Kirk and Spock destroy the device and defeat the commander, and are beamed back to the Enterprise with T'Mar. The Enterprise warps back to the Milky Way Galaxy before the Rip closes: in their closing logs, Kirk and Spock state T'Mar has recovered enough to continue working on New Vulcan, and the Enterprise has been ordered to Nibiru .

Memorable quotes [ ]

" All right, all right, all right! Great... now there’s two of you guys driving me nuts. "

" We are almost at your location. " " Well, I hope you almost find me alive. "

" HELP! Don’t let them touch me! "

Release [ ]

The game began development in 2010 and was announced the following year at E3 for a 2012 release. On 10 February 2012 , it was announced that Namco Bandai would co-publish and distribute the game in Spring 2013, shortly before the release of the Star Trek sequel. [26]

Shatner and the Gorn

On 28 March 2013, a humorous advertisement for the game was released. It depicted William Shatner "fighting" a Gorn in a parody of the classic " Arena " episode. [29]

Kre-O USS Enterprise TOS

GameStop's Kre-O USS Enterprise game premium

Hasbro 's Kre-O USS Enterprise (from the Original Series ) toy was distributed by video game retailer GameStop with pre-orders of the Star Trek video game. Those who pre-ordered the game from the UK outlet Game won a ticket to see Star Trek Into Darkness at Cineworld and were entered into a prize draw to attend the film's premiere. [30]

Downloadable content [ ]

Star Trek has the following downloadable content:

  • Brawler Pack: Kirk leather jacket skin, Spock Vulcan Science Academy skin
  • Academy Pack: Kirk Starfleet Academy skin, Spock officer dress uniform skin, Academy phaser
  • Kobayashi Maru Pack: Kobayashi Maru skins
  • Stealth Pack: Stealth outfits, Starfleet Type IV Stealth Sniper Rifle and extra ammo
  • Kelvin Pack: USS Kelvin uniform skins, Kelvin hand phaser [31]

Continuity [ ]

  • This game takes place shortly before the events of Star Trek Into Darkness . Kirk and Spock mention the upcoming mission to Nibiru in their log recordings at the end of the game.
  • Both the game and the comic Star Trek: Countdown to Darkness end on some variation of the crew of the Enterprise being sent off to Nibiru. As such, confusion has sprung as to which story takes place first if indeed both are set in the same continuity. A likely explanation is Spock's line in the opening of the game where he comments about Kirk's endless desire to stretch his legs. This would seem to reference the events of the beginning of the comic wherein Kirk mentions a desire to stretch his legs when surveying a planet which he wishes to observe up close, thus indicating that the events of the comic happened first. This reference coupled with an acknowledgement of Mike Johnson , the comic's writer in the game's end credits, would seem to support this conclusion.
  • In a conversation with Kirk over the comms, McCoy mentions an incident which he will later brag to Carol Marcus about – the delivery of baby Gorn via Caesarean section . This event was precipitated by Hikaru Sulu stunning a pregnant female that tried to attack them. According to McCoy, the infant nearly bit off his hand.

Reception [ ]

Reviews were critical of the game's AI and controls, as well as the dated graphics. Some praised the voice acting and story, [32] [33] [34] [35] [36] [37] although Digital Trends took issue with the Gorn being from another galaxy, " which constitutes a liberty taken by the developers. J.J. Abrams ' story went out of its way to reboot the franchise without disregarding the established universe. It was a time paradox, but one that allowed the existence of all the old mythology, just in a slightly different way. The game does not. " [38] The Xbox 360 version of the game possesses a 42/100 score on Metacritic. [39] The PC version possesses a score of 43/100 [40] and the PlayStation 3 version possesses a score of 45/100. [41]

After the game's release, PC users reported problems with using co-op. Paramount and Steam reportedly solved the issue two days after release. [42]

In September 2013, J.J. Abrams stated he was "emotionally hurt" by the game's poor quality and reviews. He also claimed the game hurt Into Darkness by being released shortly before the film. [43]

Description official description

Star Trek is a cooperative action game based on the movie reboot of the franchise in 2009, and released as a tie-in with the second film Star Trek Into Darkness . Based on the same canon, the game's events are set between the two films. Players can play as one of two characters, Captain James T. Kirk, or his second in command, Commander Spock. The whole game is co-op, with an AI player or friend playing whichever character you do not play as. Playing alone characters can only be switched between chapters and not during gameplay. With another player, a drop-in mechanic is supported. The antagonist of the game is the Gorn, an evil reptilian race, who attack a New Vulcan colony through a rip in space.

The game revolves around a cooperative mindset, with players playing off each others different skill sets. Each character has a distinct set of abilities, with Captain Kirk being a more typical shooter, armed with a phaser with a stun setting, and Commander Spock, a more stealth based character armed with a couple of abilities as well as a gun with a freeze setting. As the player plays through the game, they gain experience by scanning objects, hacking and discovering audio logs. Experience is used to unlock additional abilities for their respective weapons. The tricorder offers many shooting options and the characters have the ability to rewire turrets and hack flying drones. The two characters can help each other out by boosting shields and weapons.

Next to the corridor-based shooting gameplay, there is a space battle with turrets and many platforming sections. Certain stages are set in space, where characters need to dodge debris and a single level contains underwater sections.

Long read: The beauty and drama of video games and their clouds

"It's a little bit hard to work out without knowing the altitude of that dragon..."

Star Trek: The Video Game review

Where lots of games have gone before.

Star Trek doesn't belong in the modern games industry. Gene Roddenberry's idealistic space-faring parable was driven by big, heartfelt beliefs: multicultural co-existence, diplomacy, strategy and an unquenchable thirst to find new things and understand them.

As Captain Kirk, William Shatner may have conspired to remove his shirt at every available opportunity, and he was always ready with a phaser or a two-fisted punch, but Star Trek was never about action. Today's blockbuster games, however, are nothing but action. Headshots are simply easier to execute and market than negotiation.

How has developer Digital Extremes squared this circle? By taking a naval captain and a scientist and turning them into infantrymen. Purely from a military protocol point of view, that's all kinds of wrong.

The script, penned by God of War writer Marianne Krawczyk, goes a long way to compensating for this mistake. While the actions you're asked to perform never fit comfortably into Trek's footprint, the game still feels of a piece with the franchise thanks to strong writing and spirited voice work from the cast of J. J. Abrams' movies. Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto fit comfortably into their roles as Kirk and Spock respectively, and their banter shows that Krawczyk, at least, understands what makes these characters tick.

star trek (2013 video game) gameplay

The plot finds the Federation under attack from a new menace: the Gorn. These reptilian aggressors are best known for their appearance in the original TV series, in which Kirk went mano-a-mano with a rubber-masked Gorn on a remote desert planet. The creatures have been given a rather generic slobbering monster makeover to better suit modern tastes, but their character remains much the same. There's no diplomacy, because it's hard to get through to a warmongering lizard who wants to kill everyone.

Playing as either Kirk or Spock, with the other role taken by AI or another player, you voyage from New Vulcan to the Gorn homeworld via stricken Starbases and the Enterprise itself. Regardless of the environment, enemies enter from one end, you enter from the other, and you each take cover and shoot at each other. The sight of Spock, hunkered behind cover and popping off shots from a railgun or wielding a shotgun, is constantly jarring, and the tug of war between our expectations of the Star Trek brand and the reality of the video games market is never convincingly resolved.

It's a pity, since the idea of a Kirk and Spock co-op game is actually rather inspired. It's their yin-and-yang relationship that defines Trek's heart: a man who is all instinct and a half-alien who is all intellect, stronger together than apart. That's a gameplay template ready to be used, but Star Trek: The Video Game's biggest stumble is to take these iconic and distinctive characters and flatten out their differences. Despite early talk of each having their own strengths, that hasn't translated into the finished product. Both are jacks of all trades, equally at home sneaking or shooting, and, in gameplay terms, these polar opposites are indistinguishable apart from the colour of their uniform.

This flattening effect also seeps into the gameplay. There are vague stabs at alternate ways of playing, but all end up being subservient to the needs of the shooter. You can try to stealth your way through a section, but the game engine simply isn't up to the task. Movement is jerky, animation is glitchy and the AI - both friendly and enemy - is inconsistent enough to make any serious attempt at sneaking more trouble than it's worth.

Your AI partner will run headlong at an enemy turret, get shot down and then sit there in front of the gun asking to be rescued rather than shuffling to safety. Enemies will run right past you or else stay behind cover without moving. Characters are constantly getting stuck in weird animation loops or jamming on the scenery. Low-resolution textures abound and character models are stiff and puppet-like, with rigid faces that make a mockery of the actors' efforts. There's an alarming lack of polish for a game that's been in development for at least two years.

These are traits the game shares with Digital Extremes' Dark Sector, a very similar third-person shooter from 2008. However, where that game was ultimately sunk by its plodding structure, Star Trek often seems hyperactively determined to break up the corridor shooting with elements borrowed from other, better games.

There's a space battle that takes the form of a large-scale turret section as you shoot down enemy torpedoes and target their weak spots. There are numerous platforming moments that feel copy-pasted from Uncharted, where you cling and lurch your way from ledge to ledge. There's a level with underwater sections that make Lara Croft's much-derided aquatic moments look positively graceful. One stage finds Kirk and Spock teleporting each other past obstructions in a tag-team fashion. And there are many stages where you hurl yourself into space, dodging debris and obstacles as you're taken on a scripted aerial ride.

star trek (2013 video game) gameplay

There's nothing wrong with these borrowed moments in principle, but none are ever fully developed and all suffer from clumsy execution where it's painfully obvious that the game engine is being asked to do things beyond the limits of its design. Rather than a welcome change of pace, such moments end up as clunky distractions. A sprinkling of mini-games, used to access or hack various systems, fare better but quickly become repetitive.

For all Star Trek's flaws, the combat itself can actually be pretty good. There are enough options open to you - mostly via your multi-faceted tricorder - to make shoot-outs different enough from the common shooter herd. Ferreting around might reveal vents or tunnels that will help you flank the enemy. You can hack their flying drones and make them fight for you, rewire turrets to open fire on their handlers and even jam enemy weapons or remotely detonate their grenades. In terms of co-operative moves, there are no specific two-player combat options, but you can boost your partner's shields and weapons to help them through tricky stages.

Such abilities are unlocked via a rudimentary XP system, earned by scanning objects of interest, finding the obligatory audio logs or hacking key systems. It's a bare-bones offering, with a couple of genuinely useful upgrades but nothing that really encourages the player to explore or experiment.

It all adds up to a game that is never as good as it should be, nor as bad as it often seems

star trek (2013 video game) gameplay

This is true of the game in general. There are some potentially interesting ideas hidden in the margins, and some were hinted at during early previews, but all seem to have been brushed aside as the game zeroed in on the homogeneous form needed to fit into a AAA box in 2013. How interesting the combat becomes depends almost entirely on your willingness to shake things up by trying new things, as the game itself - both in mission design and AI - never demands anything beyond the most basic point-and-shoot tactics. Make the effort and the experience overcomes its creaky foundations. Left to its own devices, it's depressingly content to be played as a vanilla blaster.

It all adds up to a game that is never as good as it should be, nor as bad as it often seems. Too much of the game design is fighting against itself, with clever ideas subservient to generic structure, strong writing weighed down by clunky production, rich combat held back by execution that never dares ask too much of the player. It requires patience and forgiveness to find it, but the good stuff is worth the effort.

Star Trek fans are most likely to make that effort, but also most likely to be irritated by the liberties the game takes with its source material in order to squeeze itself into the cover-based shooter template. When the music soars, the characters align and the combat gels, Star Trek becomes a rare movie game that rises above its peers and delivers something genuinely fun. It's only ever a partial success though, too bogged down by timid design and technical rough edges to really be the game that Trek deserves.

Star Trek: The Game Review - IGN Image

Playing Star Trek: The Game felt like playing an unfinished version of a game that, even when finished, still wouldn't be very good. There isn't a scrap of imagination or originality in this whole thing, and it's a flat-out waste of the source material, the sound effects, and the voice cast. Even if you're a life-long Star Trek fan like I am, you don't want to beam down anywhere near this thing.

Star Trek is one of the most popular and well-known stories of all time. When it first premiered on television in 1966, there was nothing else like it. And since its birth, few other shows have even come close to matching the story in terms of scientific accuracy and appeal. Today, one of the ways that Star Trek lovers engage with the story is through video games, which can be more immersive than a show or movie. And the best Star Trek video games are accurate, they depict likenesses, and they come with an unbeatable plot. Here are some of our favorite Star Trek video game picks.

1. Star Trek: Bridge Crew (PSVR)

Star Trek: Bridge Crew was specifically developed as a virtual reality game, allowing Trekkies to interact with their favorite characters in a realistic, authentic way. If desired, players can operate in the co-op mode, designing a team of four to tackle their latest adventures. The team will consist of the Captain, Helm, Tactical, and Engineer as they travel through the galaxy.

Based on the 2009 Star Trek film timeline, the new ship, the USS Aegis begins searching for a home for the Vulcans. And, to do so, they head into Klingon territory. Players should keep in mind that the Captain’s role is the only one that displays the details of the mission. And the captain must communicate their latest endeavors to the rest of the crew in order to succeed.

The qualities that set this game apart from other Star Trek games are its dynamic gameplay and ongoing missions. Those who play Star Trek: Bridge Crew could really play indefinitely on a solo or co-op mission, which results in a captivating and valuable story. This game also stands apart from others in terms of its realism. As a virtual reality game, players should expect to feel completely immersed in the story.

2. Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force Expansion - PC

Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force Expansion is a first-person shooter game that is set in the fourth Star Trek television series. The game follows a number of different missions on the USS Voyager — some of which take place 70,000 miles away from home. The game incorporates a large number of original characters into the gameplay, and each character features the actual voice from the television series. So, you can expect authentic results from iconic characters like Captain Kathyrn Janeway and Lieutenant Commander Tuvok.

The game starts with holodeck training that the team fails. It shows the characters attempting to complete a task on a Borg ship. But the end result is that the majority of those characters fail, becoming captured by the enemy. After the holodeck training, the Voyager is attacked by an unknown force. And, ultimately, the ship is teleported to a mysterious place. Characters within the game have to attempt to determine where they are, and what threats lie ahead in order to keep the crew and the future of the Voyager protected. This game was an extreme success as far as Star Trek games go. In fact, it received an 86 percent approval rate, attesting to its production and bugless gameplay.

  • Tour mode or multiplayer mode

  • Rich colors

3. Star Trek Encounters - PlayStation 2

One of the interesting things about the Star Trek universe is that it’s incredibly developed. Over the past 60 years, artists of multiple kinds have had the chance to add to the universe, creating new environments and challenges along the way. And this often comes out in video games. In Star Trek: Encounters, for example, gamers control five generations of ships including the Original Series ship, the Next Generation, the Deep Space Nine, the Voyager, and even the most iconic ship: the Enterprise. While some Star Trek games fabricate new worlds and destinations, Encounters features destinations that you’ve probably seen before. And you can even play based on real TV show events.

As you play, you can combat your enemies using a variety of different weapons like Phasers, Pulse Cannons, and Torpedoes. There are also three different modes in the game. So, you can play in a multiplayer mode, in the episode mode of the skirmish mode. The result is a captivating and realistic version of the Star Trek universe that is likely to keep you entertained for many hours to come. Finally, the game style is similar to that which you would find in a conventional arcade – or a shooter game.

  • 5 generations of ships available
  • Authentic Star Trek locations
  • Choose from three modes
  • Multiplayer options
  • Release Date : 2006
  • Fun process
  • Can increase the challenge
  • Reminiscent of the arcade
  • Challenging gameplay
  • Anticlimactic finish

4. Star Trek - Playstation 3

For the first time ever, Star Trek for the Playstation 3 allowed players to adopt the characters of Captain Kirk and Spock in a new, and unique storyline. Set after the events of 2009 in the J.J. Abrams Star Trek reboot, was the first in-house game developed by Paramount Studios. This game is set in the Kelvin universe. It follows Captain Kirk, Spock, and the Starfleet crew as they evaluate and track a theft that took place. Captain Kirk and Spock head to Gorn territories in order to right the wrongs that were done to them.

One thing that sets this game apart from other Star Trek games is that the development of it relied on collaborative efforts from the film team and the video game producers. This means that the production team emphasized authenticity in the making of this game. And it shows. The likenesses of Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto are used throughout this game, making players feel entirely immersed in the plot of one of their favorite films. At the same time, the game allows you to travel to parts of the universe that have never yet been seen. The result is one of the most unforgettable Star Trek gaming experiences yet.

  • Available on PS3, Xbox 360, PC
  • Takes place after the events of 2009
  • Never before seen sectors
  • Includes two of the most well-known characters
  • Release Date : 2013
  • New visuals
  • Lots of items to find
  • Voice acting
  • A handful of glitches

5. Star Trek: Legacy - Xbox 360

Star Trek: Legacy hit the shelves in 2006, and quickly became a fan favorite due to the varied gameplay. Those who integrate themselves in this Trekkie world will be quick to notice that they have full access to the Star Trek universe in all of its glory. Along the way, they can command one to four ships, and battle others in the galaxy. Even when you’re in charge of multiple starships, you only command one at a time, allowing you to focus on the task at hand. You control features like weapons, repairs, and travel. And you can adjust the viewpoint, if desired.

Those who jump into the world of Star Trek: Legacy can also use the customized skirmish mode. You choose which way you’ll play, giving yourself the ideal gaming environment. And the PC version of this game has a few additional modes. The single-player version of this game operates in three different eras, switching between Star Trek: Enterprise, The Original Series, and The Next Generation. Or in 2159, 2270, and 2333. As graphically rich as it is engaging, Star Trek: Legacy is a collector's item if we’ve ever seen one. And the challenge that it presents to gamers is full of entertainment.

  • Spans the whole universe
  • Large-scale combat
  • 3D battlefields
  • Ships with full-damage modeling
  • Easier to control than PC version
  • Kid-friendly
  • Repetitive phrases

6. Star Trek: Conquest - Nintendo Wii

Developed by 4J Studios, Star Trek: Conquest is a single-player action game that uses both turn-based strategy and real-time strategy to captivate your attention. The game is set in the Next Generation chapter of Star Trek. And it allows the player to choose from groups that exist in that chapter like the Federation, Klingon, Romulan, Breen, Cardassian and Dominion groups. In this game, everyone is at war. Alliances that previously existed between groups have faded or been disrupted due to recent events. And all of this makes for a rather chaotic and dangerous universe. Everyone wants to capture more territories, outlining themselves as universe dominators.

Upon its release, Star Trek: Conquest received mixed reviews. Those who played on the Wii tended to be more skeptical of the game than those that played on other

platforms. We’re a fan of this particular Star Trek game because of its limitless possibilities. Interested in joining the gruff Klingon world for a while? No problem. Would you rather wear Romulan attire? If so, you can do just that in this Next Generation game. While this game is less linear than other Star Trek games, it comes with unique challenges and it requires strategy to win.

  • Nintendo Wii, Playstation 2
  • Single-player
  • Can take direct control of any ship
  • 6 playable races
  • Release Date : 2007
  • Strategy based
  • Challenging
  • Gets boring after a few conquers
  • Clunky controls

7. Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova - PlayStation 4

Trekkies that picture the most notorious and shocking Star Trek movies and shows typically point to those with Captain Kirk or the Next Generation. These are the most well-known chapters of Star Trek. But there are others. Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova is based on an animated Star Trek series. It debuted recently, in 2021 as an attempt to grow the universe that Paramount+ depicts. In the game, the year is 2383. The Voyager has already made its way home to earth when a group of aliens stumbles upon the USS Protostar and takes it as their own. Players have to figure out how to work with their team and make it out of Delta Quadrant in order to be successful.

Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova is a great game for those who love to explore new alien worlds instead of existing in old ones. Along the way, you’re likely to make it to places like Orisi, Mirios, and Taresse. And each place features its own culture, challenges, and puzzles. The goal is to meet with the aliens in each place and learn about their history. But those who make it far enough to do so are likely to run into the enemy.

  • Play as Dal R’El and Gwyndala
  • Takes you to alien worlds
  • Make first contact with new species
  • A new nemesis
  • Release Date : 2022

8. Star Trek: Away Team - PC

One thing that we love about Star Trek games is that they come in different styles. Some options might be first-person shooter games. Others might be more strategic or puzzle driven. Star Trek: Away Team is a real-time tactics game that was originally released for computers in 2001. Set after the Dominion War, the game hosts a variety of new characters in order to keep things interesting. But it also includes some fan favorites like Data, Michael Dorn, and Brent Spiner.

The gamer controls between four and six characters while immersed in this universe. Everyone has their own abilities and strengths, making them complementary and useful in specific environments. It’s up to the gamer to use them accordingly. Specialties that they might have could include a strength in science, health, or even engineering. And it’s fairly easy to see how those strengths could impact the mission. As a special operations group, this gang of characters can face as many as 18 different missions that require sharp faculties, attention, and strategy. You might find your team working against the Klingon race, the Borg, or even the Romulans, depending on that mission. What is certain is that there are plenty of challenges for you and your team to navigate as you make your way through the universe.

  • Strategy game
  • Chronicle missions of the USS Incursion
  • Experimental Starfleet ship
  • Holographic masking technology
  • Easy to play
  • No likenesses

9. Star Trek Deep Space Nine: The Fallen - PC

Most Star Trek games exist within worlds with which Trekkies are very familiar. We might find ourselves fighting against the Borg in one iteration of the game. Or perhaps the Romulans. But Star Trek Deep Space Nine: The Fallen presents a new reality to gamers that is both interesting and involved with Star Trek during a different chapter of its existence. At one point in Star Trek history, the Pah-Wraiths were banished from the Alpha Quadrant. But in this game, they’re attempting to come back in pursuit of three powerful orbs that could allow them to not only live within the quadrant but to rule it. If they succeed, life as the Alpha Quadrant will likely change for the worse.

In order to avoid this reality, the gamer adopts the character of Captain Sisko, Major Kira, or Lieutenant Worf in order to beat the Pah-Wraiths to the red orbs. Your goal is to find and contain them to protect the future of the Alpha Quadrant. Along the way, each character is prone to having its own mission and challenge. But they must also be available to coordinate with the team at large, or face ruin. What’s certain is that Star Trek Deep Space Nine: The Fallen offers new and memorable challenges for gamers.

  • Can play as multiple characters
  • Special missions
  • 3D adventure
  • Release Date : 2000
  • Different side of Star Trek
  • Fast reload
  • Great quality
  • Not always user friendly

10. Star Trek: Tactical Assault

Serious Trekkies know what the Star Trek universe is like. It’s complicated, and often chaotic and conflicted, which means that those on Star Trek ships are often in dangerous settings. Star Trek: Tactical Assault shows this reality since it features a variety of warships that are frequently under fire or headed for fire. But one thing that the game also demonstrates is that the captain (or the gamer, in some cases) can best prove their value and ability to exist within the Star Trek universe by either combating the enemy and winning or maneuvering their ship in a way that keeps their fleet safe. This game comes with two campaign modes to offer the gamer variety and multiple types of challenges. And, as the acting captain, it’s up to you to make the choices that will keep your ship healthy and fighting in the future.

In this game, you can also play from the lines of 5 different races, meaning that you can be the captain of a Federation ship, Klingon, Romulan, Gorn, and Orion ship. The altered perspective gives you a greater depth of understanding of the Star Trek universe. This multiplayer game is both entertaining and challenging, support Trekkies in their journeys to become the best captains possible.

  • Five playable races
  • Two full campaign modes
  • Real-time combat
  • Involves multiple war ships
  • Multiplayer option
  • Full-length campaigns
  • Teen-friendly
  • Classic game
  • Gameplay could be improved

Star Trek is an incredibly popular franchise that captivates full generations even today. And since it has been around for nearly 60 years, the story has had the opportunity to go through many different iterations and visual appearances. From the iconic Captain Kirk stories to the Next Generation, the story gets really deep and fascinating to those who stick with it long enough to learn about it. As a result of the story’s popularity, it's made its way into video games. And, over time, those video games have become more and more diverse. Today, you can choose from options like first-person shooter games, strategy, and even management options. And they are likely to satisfy even the most dedicated Star Trek fans.

A Brief History of Star Trek Video Games

Did you know that the first Star Trek game was first released in 1971? Titled Star Trek, this game featured turn-based battles, a text-based design, and tons of potential choices for gamers. Together, these key components teamed up to offer a game with nearly endless options. Although gaming has come a long way in the past 50 years, true Star Trek fanatics could benefit from dipping their toes back into iconic games like the original Star Trek to witness the progression of the story and the birth of Star Trek video games.

After the original Star Trek became popular, several other video games followed in its tracks. While many of the newer variations were slow to captivate audiences, there were a few that truly stood out for their gameplay and plot. Star Trek: 25th Anniversary, for example, allows players to embody Captain Kirk, who is in charge of the Enterprise.

After Activision acquired the rights to Star Trek in 1998, some of the most popular Star Trek games in history came to fruition. Titles like Star Trek: Armada, Star Trek Voyager - Elite Force, and Star Trek: Bridge Commander took Trekkies by surprise because of their improved graphics, likenesses, and storylines. And this solidified these games in history as some of the best video games ever to be released.

Star Trek continues to captivate gamers and story-lovers alike for its depth and realism. Who wouldn’t want to gain a greater understanding of the breadth of the universe, right? And since video games offer users an immersive experience into the universe of their choosing, it's no wonder why these Star Trek titles have become permanent fixtures in gaming history.
