  • Trivia Bruce Horak , the actor who plays Hemmer, is legally blind, just like his character's species, the Aenar, who are also blind.
  • Goofs There are some rank insignia mistakes. Number One is introduced as "Lieutenant Commander Una Chin-Riley" yet she is wearing the rank insignia of a full commander: two full stripes. A Lieutenant Commander's rank insignia is a full stripe under a thin stripe (in TOS it is a full stripe and a staggered stripe). It is not uncommon for a ship's first officer to be a Lt. Commander if they have not been in the position long. Spock at this point is a Lieutenant but he is wearing Lieutenant Commander's stripes; a Lieutenant just has one stripe. La'an is the ship's chief of security and the ship's second officer. She is also wearing Lt. Commander stripes but is addressed as a Lieutenant, but it would make more sense for her to be a Lieutenant Commander. Either way both of their rank insignia are not matching the rank they are addressed by. Ortegas is addressed as a Lieutenant but is wearing Lieutenant Commander's strips. A Lieutenant Commander may be addressed as a Commander or Lieutenant Commander but never as just a Lieutenant, so either her rank insignia or the manner she is addressed by the rest of the crew is in error.

'Star Trek: Prodigy' to Hit Netflix in December

The show was cancelled at Paramount+ earlier this year.

The Big Picture

  • Star Trek: Prodigy 's first season will stream on Netflix starting December 25.
  • The animated series targets a younger audience, following a group of young aliens escaping from a prison planet on a lost Federation starship, with the help of a holographic Captain Janeway.
  • Netflix has acquired the show and will also air its nearly complete second season, which features the Protostar crew officially joining Starfleet and meeting the holographic Doctor from Star Trek: Voyager.

Star Trek: Prodigy is coming home for Christmas. The first season of the animated Star Trek series will stream on Netflix starting December 25. Netflix Geeked tweeted out the news today, revealing that Star Trek: Prodigy 's first season, which was scrubbed off Paramount+ earlier this year as a tax write-off , will stream on the service on December 25.

Netflix announced that they had acquired the series last month; they will also air the series' second season, which was nearly complete when Paramount dropped the ax. The show's cancelation was met with collective outrage from the Star Trek fandom and inspired a letter-writing campaign to save the show. Collider's Collier Jennings wrote that the series deserved a second season , as "not only does it provide a great entry point into the world of Star Trek , but it also manages to blaze a few paths that no other live-action series has been able to take."

What Is 'Star Trek: Prodigy'?

A show aimed at a younger audience than other Star Trek series, the series details the adventures of a crew of young aliens who escape from a prison planet aboard a lost Federation starship, the USS Protostar . Pursued by the tyrannical Diviner ( John Noble ) and his robotic henchman Dreadnok ( Jimmi Simpson ), the crew attempt to become a team with the aid of a sentient hologram based on legendary Starfleet captain Kathryn Janeway ( Kate Mulgrew ). The Protostar's crew includes the wannabe captain Dal ( Brett Gray ), the Diviner's daughter Gwyn ( Ella Purnell ), the energy being Zero ( Angus Imrie ), the eccentric mechanic Jankom Pog ( Jason Mantzoukas ), the gentle giant Rok-Tahk ( Rylee Alazraqui ), and the mysterious, amorphous Murf ( Dee Bradley Baker ). In addition to providing a jumping-on point for younger viewers into the world of Star Trek , it featured the return of several classic Trek characters for longtime fans, including Chakotay ( Robert Beltran ), Edward Jellicoe ( Ronny Cox ), and outrageous smuggler captain Thadiun Okona ( Billy Campbell ).

Star Trek: Prodigy 's second season does not yet have a release date, but it was nearly complete prior to the initial cancellation. Last month, the producers released a clip of the second-season premiere , which sees the Protostar crew formally join Starfleet and meet Star Trek: Voyager 's holographic Doctor ( Robert Picardo ). Star Trek: Prodigy 's first season will stream on Netflix on December 25, 2023 . Stay tuned to Collider for future updates, and watch Collider's interview with Kate Mulgrew below.

"First Con-tact"

Star Trek: Prodigy is the first Star Trek series aimed at younger audiences and follows a motley crew of young aliens who must figure out how to work together while navigating a greater galaxy, in search of a better future. These six young outcasts know nothing about the ship they have commandeered – a first in the history of the Star Trek franchise – but over the course of their adventures together, they will each be introduced to Starfleet and the ideals it represents.

“Thank you to our incredible Star Trek: Prodigy fans, who championed not just a show, but a community that’s always been connected by the belief that we build a better future together,” said executive producer Alex Kurtzman and co-showrunners Dan and Kevin Hageman. “We set out to inspire you, but you inspired us. The team is still hard at work on the second season, and we can’t wait to share it with the amazing fans around the world.”

“I've always held that the Star Trek fan base is among the strongest and most intelligent in the world. They have shown their collective passion, and we’re happy to be able to celebrate Prodigy once again,” said Kate Mulgrew, voice of Admiral Janeway.

Earlier this summer, Kevin and Dan Hageman revealed an extended first look at the second season's premiere episode, where the former crew of the U.S.S. Protostar and now warrant Starfleet officers in training are reunited for an internship under the command of Admiral Janeway. Escorting them to the admiral's new ship is Janeway's dear friend, The Doctor.

Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin, Aaron Baiers, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth serve as executive producers, alongside co-showrunners Kevin and Dan Hageman. Ben Hibon directs, executive produces, and serves as the creative lead of the animated series. Aaron Waltke and Patrick Krebs also currently serve as co-executive producers.

The Star Trek: Prodigy voice cast includes Kate Mulgrew (Hologram Kathryn Janeway), Brett Gray (Dal), Ella Purnell (Gwyn), Rylee Alazraqui (Rok-Tahk), Angus Imrie (Zero), Jason Mantzoukas (Jankom Pog), Dee Bradley Baker (Murf), John Noble (The Diviner), and Jimmi Simpson (Drednok). Also featured in the series are recurring voice cast members Daveed Diggs (Commander Tysess), Jameela Jamil (Ensign Asencia), Jason Alexander (Doctor Noum), Robert Beltran (Captain Chakotay), and Billy Campbell (Thadiun Okona).

Star Trek: Prodigy received a 2023 TCA Award nomination for “Outstanding Achievement in Family Programming” along with a 2022 Children’s and Family Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Animated Series, and production designer, Alessandro Taini, won the award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation.

Star Trek Beyond – Official Trailer

Star Trek Beyond – What to Expect from the Movie?

Helmed by director Justin Lin and overseen by producer J.J. Abrams, Star Trek Beyond stands as the thirteenth installment within the beloved Star Trek franchise. Centering on the charismatic Captain James T. Kirk, brilliantly portrayed by Chris Pine, the film delves into his introspective journey while undertaking Starfleet’s lengthy five-year mission.

However, when the Enterprise falls under the merciless assault of Krall, masterfully depicted by Idris Elba, the crew finds themselves scattered and ensnared. Their arduous quest encompasses reuniting, vanquishing Krall, and safeguarding their cherished home base from impending catastrophe.

Captain Kirk Reflects on His Role

In the film Star Trek Beyond, we witness Captain James T. Kirk deep in contemplation regarding his purpose within Starfleet. He finds himself questioning the motivations that led him to enlist and experiences a sense of monotony in the routine nature of their ongoing five-year exploratory mission. As the anniversary of his father’s passing approaches, his introspection intensifies.

The Enterprise Sets Course to Nebula

At the present location of the USS Enterprise, Yorktown, an escape pod arrives carrying an extraterrestrial woman who claims her vessel is stranded in an uncharted nebula nearby. The Enterprise embarks on a rescue mission, unknowingly walking into a carefully laid trap.

Krall attacks the Enterprise

Upon reaching the nebula, the Enterprise falls victim to a ruthless attack from a vast swarm of small ships controlled by the merciless Krall. The swarm systematically tears the Enterprise apart, causing the ship to crash on the neighboring planet, Altamid. Krall’s ultimate goal is to acquire an ancient artifact present on the Enterprise, which he plans to weaponize as a bioweapon.

The Crew Scattered and Captured

The surviving crew members find themselves scattered across the planet’s surface, with many falling into Krall’s clutches. Meanwhile, Kirk, Chekov, and Kalara discover the saucer section of the Enterprise, only to unravel Kalara’s treachery before her demise. Concurrently, Scotty encounters Jaylah, a resourceful scavenger residing within the crashed USS Franklin, a long-lost vessel missing for centuries.

Kirk and Team Plan a Rescue

Kirk, Chekov, and Jaylah reunite, pooling their efforts to repair the Franklin in order to mount a daring rescue operation for the rest of the captive crew. In the midst of their endeavors, Spock, injured and accompanied by Bones, receives news of Ambassador Spock’s (his alternate reality older self) passing.

Kirk vs. Krall

As the team successfully liberates the crew, they uncover Krall’s true identity as the former Starfleet Captain Balthazar Edison, along with his diabolical plan to annihilate Yorktown using the ancient artifact. In a gripping final showdown, Kirk manages to vanquish Krall and propel him, along with his weapon, into the depths of space, effectively safeguarding Yorktown.

The Crew’s Decision and a New Voyage

Opting to remain the captain of the Enterprise, Kirk declines an offer for a Vice Admiral position. Spock chooses to continue serving in Starfleet while nurturing his relationship with Uhura. With renewed fervor for space exploration and discovery, the crew embarks on their next odyssey, venturing into uncharted cosmic territories.

‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ Saved at Netflix; Season 2 to Debut in 2024

It'll begin streaming the first season by the end of 2023.

Kasey Moore What's on Netflix Avatar

Picture: Paramount

Netflix has announced that it will be saving the short-lived Paramount+ series Star Trek: Prodigy, which recently had its second renewal order scrapped. After shopping the project, Netflix has announced it’ll soon be the new streaming home for both season 1 in 2023 and season 2 in 2024.

Aimed at younger audiences, Star Trek: Prodigy is one of many Star Trek shows (or at least was) produced exclusively for Paramount+ and what was then called CBS All Access.

20 episodes of the series have aired thus far, with season 1 being released across two parts. Season 1, part 2, was released on Paramount+ between October 2021 and February 2022, while part 2 dropped weekly between October 2022 and December 2022.

Created by Kevin & Dan Hageman, the 3D animated series followed a motley crew of young aliens finding themselves living aboard an abandoned Starfleet ship. Brett Gray, Ella Purnell, Jason Mantzoukas, Angus Imrie, Rylee Alazraqui, Dee Bradley Baker, Jimmi Simpson, John Noble, and Kate Mulgrew lent their voices to the series.

In June 2023, Paramount+ joined other streamers like Disney in purging some of its content from the platform, including the first season of Star Trek: Prodigy . In addition, it reversed the season 2 renewal order. That season was already deep into production, and reports at the time suggested that it would be allowed to be shopped to other networks.

Season 2 will be released exclusively on Netflix in 2024

Fast forward to today, and Netflix has announced it’ll be the new home for both season 1, which will drop in late 2023 (keep an eye on our coming soon section for more), and will also exclusively launch season 2 at some point in 2024.

On October 11th, Netflix Tweeted :

“Star Trek: Prodigy is coming to Netflix! Season 1 of the animated series launches onto Netflix later this year while a brand new Season 2 is slated to debut in 2024”

In a joint statement on Alex Kurtzman’s social pages, they thank the fans of the show and state that “they can’t wait to share it [season 2] with the amazing fans around the world.”

star trek prodigy statement on revival

Statement by Alex Kurtzman and Dan & Kevin Hageman on the Star Trek: Prodigy revival

Aaron J. Waltke, a producer and screenwriter on Star Trek: Prodigy , posted shortly following the announcement with the hashtag “WeSavedStarTrekProdigy,” saying:

“At last, we can share the news… Star Trek: Prodigy has landed! Our show is beyond thrilled to be joining NETFLIX for the ongoing adventures of the Protostar crew. Star Trek fans across the galaxy — and young cadets in the making — have been granted the chance to see our series, many for the very first time. With a truly global audience, it is an extraordinary opportunity to grow our already formidable fanbase. It is in no small part thanks to you, the fandom — who demonstrated through your extraordinary efforts that the stories of Starfleet, and the outsiders who aspire to it, will endure. We are so deeply humbled and grateful beyond words. Many on the Prodigy team, including myself and the Hagemans, have created some exceptional television with Netflix — and we very much look forward to doing so again. The possibilities are endless now that the world can see all 40 episodes of Prodigy’s first and second seasons in one place which our passionate cast and crew have worked so tirelessly on – with the potential for more as we boldly go and seek out this new horizon. If you wish to see more Dal and Gwyn and Rok-Tahk and Zero and Jankom and Murf, viewing the show on Netflix as soon as it drops – and telling others the good news, to do the same — is unequivocally the way. There’s not much more to say. Other than… Go fast. Spread the word. Together… …We Saved Star Trek: Prodigy. Set a course for home.”

This is part of a recent strategy shift from Paramount Global, which has been much keener on licensing titles, to places like Netflix. Earlier in 2023, we saw them shop Ripley to Netflix, which was originally due to be released on Showtime. That’s in addition to other licensing, such as Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber being licensed in the US in October 2023 after being yanked from Paramount+.

On the kid’s side, we’ve also seen them license some of its Nickelodeon content to the service in recent years and work on a brand new Original Spongebob movie scheduled for 2024. We also see Nickelodeon titles arrive exclusively on Netflix from the 2019 output deal that includes the Erin & Aaron, slated for a November release .

At one point, Netflix was streaming home to the majority of older Star Trek shows. It had the complete collection of Deep Space Nine , Voyager, Enterprise, The Next Generation , and even The Animated Series for a period of time, but they slowly departed throughout 2021 and into 2022 .

Internationally, Netflix was also the distributor for Star Trek: Discovery until late 2021, when the first three seasons (marked as Netflix Originals) were unceremoniously removed , with all future seasons exclusive to Paramount+.

Are you looking forward to Star Trek: Prodigy being part of Netflix’s lineup? Let us know in the comments below.

The Star Trek Origins Movie Is Officially Moving Forward, But I Have Two Serious Concerns About It

I f you have a Paramount+ subscription , you know full well how the Star Trek franchise has been thriving on TV again for many years now. Streaming has allowed the shows like Discovery , Picard , Strange New Worlds , Prodigy (which is now housed at Netflix) and Lower Decks to be made, and there are more upcoming Star Trek TV shows on the way, as well as the Michelle Yeoh-led Section 31 movie . However, not the franchise’s theatrical film side of things, we haven’t seen anything since 2016’s Star Trek Beyond , but apparently that’s about to change. Paramount Pictures is officially moving forward with that Star Trek origins movie that was reported about earlier this year , though after hearing this news, I can’t help but have two serious concerns about it.

During the Paramount presentation at CinemaCon today that CinemaBlend attended, it was mentioned that this Star Trek movie, which will be directed by Andor ’s Toby Haynes and written by Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter ’s Seth Grahame-Smith, is set to begin production later this year and is expected to be released sometime in 2025. Beyond that, no other details were revealed, so the only other thing we know about this project is that it’s set decades before the events of 2009’s Star Trek , i.e. the movie that kicked off the alternate timeline which follows Chris Pine’s James Kirk, Zachary Quito’s Spock and more.

Therein lies my first concern with this origins movie: exactly how is this going to function as a prequel? Not to get too nerdy, but the point of divergence between the Kelvin timeline and the main Star Trek timeline occurs when Nero’s ship’s came back in time to the former reality, which also happened to be the same day James Kirk was born. Everything before that day happened the same way in both timelines, including the events of the TV show Star Trek: Enterprise . So because that series chronicled Starfleet’s first deep-space exploration and ended with the formation of the United Federation of Planets, what origin is there to tell?

The main thing I can think of at the moment is we’d learn how Starfleet and the United Federation became the powerhouse forces they are by the time the 2009 Star Trek movie begins. But even setting aside the fact that this doesn’t need to be classified as a Kelvin timeline exclusive-story since again, such events would have happened the same way in both realities, would this make for a compelling enough cinematic event? With talent like Haynes and Grahame-Smith behind it, I hope so.

My second concern with this Star Trek origins movie is what this means for Star Trek 4 , i.e. the Star Trek Beyond follow-up. We’re coming up on 10 years of this project trying to get off the ground, with various behind-the-scenes creative talent boarding and exiting it, including director Matt Shakman, who left to helm The Fantastic Four . It seems like Star Trek 4 can’t catch a break, and I’m worried that this origins movie will result in it being shelved for good.

Now to be fair, when this origin story’s existence was revealed, it was mentioned that Star Trek 4 was still in “active development’ and is intended to be “the final chapter of the series.” So on face value, Paramount reportedly intends to give this version of the USS Enterprise crew a proper farewell, but given how many attempts to move Star Trek 4 forward have failed, will prioritizing the Star Trek origins movie will once again result in the other movie falling by the wayside? At this point, if Star Trek 4 does get made, it’s not coming out until well over a decade after Beyond . Is it even worth being remotely optimistic about its chances anymore?

As a longtime Star Trek fan, I’ll end up seeing this origins movie regardless, but these concerns will keep weighing on my mind until more information comes to light. Naturally we’ll pass along any major updates that come in, but for now, you can look through our 2024 movies schedule to stay on top of the cinematic entertaining coming out later this year.

A Star Trek origin story movie is officially on the way from Andor and Black Mirror director

It's set to take place decades before 2009's Star Trek

Chris Pine in Star Trek Beyond

Paramount has officially announced a new Star Trek movie – but it's not Star Trek 4.

The Untitled Star Trek Origin Story was unveiled at CinemaCon, with J.J. Abrams set to produce (H/T The Wrap ). The film will take place decades before 2009's Star Trek, with Andor's Toby Haynes set to direct and Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter author Seth Grahame-Smith set to pen the script. Plot details have yet to be released. Deadline first announced the film earlier this year.

Haynes directed the popular Black Mirror episode U.S.S Callister, which acts as a Star Trek parody. Black Mirror season 7 will feature a sequel to U.S.S Callister , though it has not yet been announced who will direct.

Paramount also stated that the origin pic would begin production later this year to make it in time for a 2025 theatrical release. Star Trek 4, the sequel to Abrams' 2009 flick, is still in development. WandaVision's Matt Shakman was previously attached to direct, but  left the project  in August 2022  around the same time he was announced as the new Fantastic Four director. Last month, Variety reported that Sucker Punch and Supernatural writer Steve Yockey would pen the fourth Star Trek film, which intends to bring back Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and the rest of the cast.

'Star Trek: Discovery' season 5 episode 4 uses time travel to remember the past 5 seasons

It's pretty obvious watching this episode that the cast and crew, at the very least, strongly suspected that this was going to be the last season of "Discovery" when it was written.

in a scene from the tv show star trek: discovery, two women star at each other while standing on the deck of a spaceship

Warning: Spoilers ahead for "Star Trek: Discovery" season 5, episode 4

With the news that "Star Trek: Lower Decks" is ending after its current season, that really only leaves "Strange New Worlds" as the last remaining Nu-Trek series currently airing on television.

And, a word to the wise: If you're a die-hard fan of " Discovery ," make sure you have your own physical media, 'cause no one likes being at the mercy of whatever an overpaid television executive thinks. You're welcome. Moreover, after this final season of "Discovery," we're going to have until wait until next year for the next season of " Strange New Worlds ." It's all starting to feel a bit like "Game of Thrones" all over again.

Episode four, entitled "Face the Strange," is without a doubt the best entry so far in the fifth season, and one can't help but wonder after watching exactly when the cast and production crew were first informed that this would be the last season, because it was definitely before this episode was actually written. The reason? It is, for all intents and purposes, a 60-minute, time-travel-powered, postscript-style reminiscence of all elements of all five seasons — or as much as you can cram into an hour — and what a rollercoaster ride it's been.

So when Alex Kurtzman or Michelle Paradise or whoever it is that actually has authority in the writer's room entered said room, put down their grande iced sugar-free vanilla half-double decaffeinated half-caff latte with soy milk and a twist of lemon in their Paramount-branded 40oz Stanley Clean Slate Quencher H2.0 Flowstate™ Tumbler and announced, "Wouldn't it be great to revisit chapters from seasons one, two, three and four?" no doubt everyone cheered. "And how will this be possible?" asked Kurtzman, to which an eager-beaver intern no doubt excitedly thrust their hand up into the air and exclaimed, "Why, time travel , of course!"

"Quite right," replied Kurtzman (in our imaginations, at least), adding, "But it can be for one episode, so it has to be an isolated, self-contained form of time travel." Thus was conceived the "Time Bug," and with it came a ton of technobabble to precisely explain its parameters. Although quite why Zora didn't detect it was not addressed. Also, you know, transporters.

But this clever Time Bug, which can manipulate time in just about any way that's convenient for the writers to overcome any potential chronological complications — like life-changing paradoxes — came onboard the USS Discovery by way of that shifty Malinne "Moll" Ravel (Eve Harlow), who managed to infiltrate the Trill homeworld undetected, as we saw last week .

As a result, we get reminder glimpses of Michael Burnham's first coming aboard the USS Discovery way, way, way back in season one, complete with appropriate uniforms and everything. We get a fleeting reminder of the Red Angel and the battle with Control , naturally The Burn gets a mention, and there's even a not-very-subtle nod to the short-Trek " Calypso ." It's all a little bit like a Greatest Hits album that doesn't include any of the tracks that you actually liked, being played at 45 instead of 33. Remember vinyl?

Since it's now obvious that this season was written after the cancellation announcement had been made to the cast and crew, the single most important question is, Will the show benefit from that, or will it suffer? Are the remaining six episodes going to be a drawn-out epilogue, tied loosely together with a mostly lame plot? Or, will advance knowledge of the show's future actually serve the writers well, allowing them to produce something above and beyond the normal level of writing?

There's even a very entertaining scene, in which 23rd-century Burnham must fight her 32nd-century self. Of course, the illudium Q-36 explosive space modulator fitted to the space bug prevents any changes from affecting the timeline, so you know, phew .

Most of the original Discovery bridge reappear, as close to how they looked seven years ago as possible, and even Lt. Cmdr. Airiam (played by Sara Mitich in the first season and Hannah Cheesman in the second) makes a cameo, so that's nice. Also, we can really see as Sonequa Martin-Green flips between her two Burnhams just how effective that dreadlock hair piece that she wears through this season actually is. Half the show's budget probably went to that.

It's a fun filler episode, and, even if it doesn't advance the plot an inch, it does allow character development to take place, particularly between Burnham and Captain Rayner (Callum Keith Rennie). Arguably the biggest surprise was that the writers were able to resist putting Captain Pike (Anson Mount) into this episode.

The fifth and final season of "Star Trek: Discovery," and every other episode of every "Star Trek" show — with the exception of "Star Trek: Prodigy" — currently streams exclusively on Paramount Plus in the U.S., while "Prodigy" has found a new home on Netflix.

The dark knight star's new thriller with 48% rotten tomatoes score gets new life on netflix.

Dark Knight star Aaron Eckhart's action-thriller The Bricklayer finds a new audience on Netflix after its critically-panned 48% Rotten Tomatoes score.

  • The action-thriller The Bricklayer , starring Aaron Eckhart, defies its Rotten Tomatoes scores and finds success on Netflix.
  • With 4.6 million views and 8.5 million viewing hours, The Bricklayer impresses as a Top 10 global movie on Netflix.
  • Fans of Eckhart and the action genre should catch The Bricklayer on Netflix soon, as its streaming success may be short-lived.

The Dark Knight star Aaron Eckhart's action-thriller The Bricklayer has found an unexpected new lease on life on Netflix after its 48% Rotten Tomatoes score. The movie, directed by Renny Harlin, and co-starring The Vampire Diaries lead Nina Dobrev, follows a disillusioned former CIA agent-turned-bricklayer, who is forced out of retirement when an extortionist threatens the lives of those at the agency. The Bricklayer features a strong cast and received a day-and-date release in the United States on January 5.

Despite a poor critical Rotten Tomatoes score of 48% and a 30% audience score, The Bricklayer is enjoying a resurgence on Netflix , with the film hitting the streaming platform's list of Top 10 Global Movies in its first week. The movie is currently ranked as the sixth most-watched on the list, notching 8.5 million hours viewed with 4.6 million individual views . This is for the week of April 8 through April 14, which saw What Jennifer Did arrive at No. 1.

Could The Bricklayer Be A Long-Term Netflix Hit?

The bricklayer is off to a positive start.

How long The Bricklayer might be in the Netflix Top 10 is unclear, but, despite its critical mauling, the movie does appear to have hit the ground running. The 4.6 million views and 8.5 million viewing hours make for a pretty impressive debut for the movie, and it was enough for The Bricklayer to come in above more well-known movies such as The Maze Runner and Hotel Transylvania 2 . It could well do enough to remain on the list for at least a week or two more.

It is unlikely that critics are going to look at the movie more favorably, but audience opinion could be on the rise as The Bricklayer has proven to be an unexpected hit. Those who enjoyed it could contribute to positive word of mouth. Eckhart has never been box office gold, but he has always been a consistently reliable actor , and The Bricklayer seems to be another example of the Golden Globe-nominee diversifying his roles in recent years. He has added a slew of action-thrillers to his filmography, and Eckhart even performs his own stunts in The Bricklayer .

While it seems unlikely that Eckhart will evolve into an action hero in the same way as someone like Liam Neeson has managed to, it does appear that he feels at home in the genre. It also seems that his experiences with The Bricklaye r have been positive, as he is set to star in another Harlin movie, the upcoming Deep Water . While The Bricklayer has had a strong streaming debut, it might not be around for too much longer, so viewers would be advised to check it out sooner rather than later.
