Day-1: Khulna – Harbaria – Kotka

• Meet at Khulna Jahaj Ghat at 7.00 am, transfer to our waiting boat, and start immediately toward Sundarban. Breakfast will be served on the ship. 
• Reach Harbaria Eco-Tourism Center in the afternoon. Walk inside the forest and have the first experience of Sundarban Mangrove Forest.
• Back to the ship and start for Kotka. Reach Kotka around 11.00 am, and overnight stay on the ship. Lunch and dinner will be served on the ship.

Day-2: Kotka – Kochikhali

• Early in the morning, go for a ride on a noiseless wooden boat, and explore the creeks and canals of Sundarban searching for wildlife and many different birds.
• Back to the ship and have breakfast.
• Visit Kotka Wildlife Sanctuary, where you’ll encounter a lot of wildlife. 
• Trek inside the forest to Jamtola Beach (45 minutes walk one way) and enjoy the beach for some time. 
• Return to the ship and start for Kochikhali. We will go through a small river where you’ll be able to feel Sundarban from a close distance. Lunch will be served on the way. 
• Reach Kochikhali in the late afternoon, and walk in the jungle for some time. 
• Start our return journey toward Chadpai or Dangmari forest station in the evening. Overnight stay on the ship near the forest station.

Day-3: Koromjol – Khulna

• Early in the morning, go for a ride on a noiseless wooden boat, and explore the creeks and canals of Sundarban, searching for wildlife and birds.
• Back to the ship and start for Koromjol Eco-Tourism Center. Breakfast will be served on the way.
• Reach Koromjol Eco-Tourism Center around 11.00 am. Walk on the trail inside Koromjol Eco-Tourism Center, watch the Sundarban Mangrove Forest from the observation tower, and visit the Crocodile Breeding Center.
• Return to the ship and start for Khulna. Lunch will be served on the way.
• Reach Khulna around 6.00 pm. Have evening snacks with tea/coffee. Disembark from the boat and say goodbye! 
• End of the tour.

• Fill up the booking form and submit it to start the booking process.
• After that, pay 50% of the total tour price as a deposit. You can send the payment by bKash (bKash charge applicable), deposit it in our City Bank account, or pay physically by coming to our office.
• Booking will be confirmed only after getting a 50% deposit. The rest of the payment has to be paid one week before the tour.
• Booking will be automatically canceled if the tour’s full price is not paid one week before the tour.
• We’ll also need a copy of the National ID or passport for everyone for the forest permit, and the children’s birth certificate as proof of age.
• Cancellation procedure: If you want to cancel any confirmed booking, you need to do that by replying to the booking email of the tour. No cancellation will be accepted without a written email. The time of receiving the email will be considered as the time of cancellation.
• Cancellation before 7 days of the tour: 25% of the tour price will be deducted, and the rest of the deposit will be refunded.
• Cancellation between 7 days and 48 hours before the tour: 50% of the total tour price will be deducted, and the rest of the deposit will be refunded.
• Cancellation between 48 hours and 24 hours before the tour: 75% of the total tour price will be deducted, and the rest of the deposit will be refunded.
• Cancellation in less than 24 hours before the tour: No refund will be provided. Also, it will not be possible to move the tour to another date.
• Cancellation by BTA Holidays: If we cancel the tour because of bad weather or any national emergency, or any other unavoidable circumstances, 100% of your deposit will be refunded.
• The itinerary of the Sundarban Tour will change depending on tide and season. But we’ll do our best to visit all the places mentioned.
• Wear shoes with a belt on the backside and waterproof, which are strong enough for walking a lot. Do not wear a high hill or any formal shoes.
• Wear clothes that are not tight. Wear something comfortable. Do not wear jeans.
• Bring a binocular if you have, to watch wildlife on Sundarban better.
• Bring medicine for fever, pain, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, and other common diseases. There is no hospital or pharmacy inside Sundarban.
• Sundarban is a sensitive ecosystem. Do not talk loudly or make noise while inside Sundarban.
• Be completely quiet and do not talk during the boat rides on small canals or while walking inside the forest, to not scare the wildlife.
• Do not stand on the boat during the ride on the canals. Remain seated in your place and enjoy the tranquility of Sundarban.
• Do not tear leaves or flowers from any tree inside Sundarban. Leave no mark of your visit. Only bring happy memories at home.

Boat Type : Sharing Basis (Max capacity 40, but we normally allow upto 25/30)

Car Type : For a Sharing or Group tour car will be sharing Type, We normally prefer to book a big car like Tempo 17/26 seater, Winger 13 Seater and even small car 4/7 seater. It depends on the no. of travellers going on a particular day. Also, no. of families. But always a family in a same car.

For Sundarban Private Tour Package car will be always Private

Although you can opt for pvt car (by extra payment) in a sharing Sundarban tour , we may allow you pickup and drop from your home (Within Kolkata).

In case of drop-in time, many travellers request to drop elsewhere other than Science City. Please keep in mind our commitment is from Science City to Science City, so if you need to drop-in elsewhere you can talk directly to the driver about extra payment and his availability.

Waiting Time : During 1st Day Car Drop-in Time and Boat Check-in Time is not always possible to maintain accurately. So, you may wait in parking area 15 to 30 mins (We always prefer not to wait).

We wake up to the riverine beauty of Bangladesh in the morning. We arrive at Hularhat around 9:00. Drive to Bagerhat and explore most of the remaining mosques from the 15th-century city known as Khalifatabad, including sixty dome mosques, nine dome mosques, Khan Jahan Ali shrine, and Kodla Moth, a beautiful Hindu temple from the 17th century. Today we begin discovering the wildlife and nature of thrilling Sundarban, We start cruising early in the morning towards our ultimate destination, the Sundarbans, and enjoy a delicious, fresh breakfast on board. We will stop at Harbaria Ranger Station for our first trail; On this morning’s walk, you can see some of the animals, birds, and insects of the Sundarbans. If we are very lucky, we may hear or spot a Bengal Tiger. We will continue our cruising towards Kochikhali, having lunch on board. In the evening we have a boat trip for an hour through a narrow creek to spot different wildlife. Overnight at Kochikhali (Sleeping Cabin on Boat)

Early in the morning we have a cup of tea/coffee and get ready immediately to explore wildlife in nearby canals and creeks on a small wooden boat. This is also an area where we sometimes spot Bengal Tigers if we are lucky. We will walk the trail to Kotka Forest Station. On this two-hour walk, we will visit Jamtola Beach, and see spotted deer, monkeys, wild boar, reptiles, many kinds of birds, and maybe even tiger pawprints. In the late afternoon, we will go to Kotka Watchtower for the sunset. Many herbivorous animals come here to graze and sometimes carnivorous Bengal Tigers come here for their meal, too. This is our final chance to spot Bangladesh’s Bengal Tigers. Overnight at Horintana.(Sleeping Cabin on Boat)

We travel by boat to visit a fishing village. Life here is simple and difficult. The fishers catch fish from the river, especially prawns and lobster during low tide. After arriving at Karamjol Wildlife Rescue Center we have a one-hour walk, our last in the Sundarbans. We will visit the crocodile breeding center, and deer-breeding center and see some other exquisite wildlife species. We will have our final meal (lunch) in the Sundarbans, head back to Mongla to say goodbye to the boat staff, load our luggage into our waiting car, and leave the river for the drive to Khulna. We will leave the hotel and transfer to the Khulna railway station for the ride to Dhaka. There is time to walk around the railway station and then experience another way to travel to Bangladesh. We will travel in the first class AC compartment called Snigdha. Our train journey will start at 08:40 AM from Khulna Railway Station towards Dhaka and it’s a nine hours long journey. You can expect to see today from the train; vast vegetation beauty in the countryside, different types of harvest fields, a lot of mango orchards, litchi orchards, and other orchards well and you will see the longest steel railway bridge in Bangladesh (Hardinge Bridge) and 6th longest bridge in South Asia (Bangabandhu Bridge) which is 4.63 km long, and you will notice may local peoples day life activities. The Sundarbans mangrove forest, one of the largest such forests in the world (140,000 ha) lies on the delta of the Ganges, Brahmaputra, and Meghna rivers on the Bay of Bengal. It is adjacent to the border of India’s Sundarbans World Heritage site inscribed in 1987. The site is intersected by a complex network of tidal waterways, mudflats, and small islands of salt-tolerant mangrove forests, and presents an excellent example of ongoing ecological processes. The area is known for its wide range of fauna, including 260 bird species, the man-eating Royal Bengal tiger, and other threatened species such as the estuarine crocodile and the Indian python.

The forest is a veil of wilderness and haunting with its deepness of endless waterways. More than 300 hundred rivers-canal and its mystic tidal changes allow incentive adventure through the mangrove carpet. Sundarbans connect 80 kilometers of the Bay of Bengal and its sandy beaches that are quite natural. The silence of the forest overwhelms the mind and produces a restful ambiance that helps anyone to fill the heart away from routine life. The beauty of Sundarbans is wildlife. The only thing you can hear in the forest is the sound of water, wind, birds, and animals. The full moon at Sundarbans is a mystery. Dinner inside the forest on the full moon is genuinely memorable. Plenty of deer comes to the bank of the river to drink at night. When you target a spotlight, you can see the shiny eyes of animals. Imagine a night in the deep forest where there’s no human and you are sleeping in a small ship cabin. You will meditate by the sound of silence and water waves. And of course, you can hear the roar of the tiger, the Royal Bengal Tiger if you are lucky.

The banks of the rivers-canal host a lot of animals and are truly fascinating. Crocodiles basking in the sun, deers hunting foods, birds running for fish, otters swimming, and sometimes dolphins saying hello to you at the same time is an unforgettable visual for a lifetime. The small tiny canals and a country boat trip in the early morning permit one to experience the elegance of the forest. A lot of birds you can see when going through the canals. You can see a deer eating leaves and running when you got by them. Kotka is a place where a see more than a hundred deers together. You can get closer and closer if they are busy eating.

The most exciting thing in Sundarbans is walking inside the forest. This is an adventurous and horrible moment at the same time when you know there are the man-eating tigers and it could be anywhere, anytime. The forest guards with their guns give you the courage to experience the moment. Walking inside the mangrove trees and the field covered by tiger fern and watching running deers are a lifetime experience.

Waiting for a tiger from a watchtower could be the best thing. Cups of tea with a binocular or a camera with a telephoto lens and your patience of waiting to see a tiger are a true wild. Only a very lucky one can see a tiger, but you can see the pugmark. Whatever the past reports, the number of tigers are increasing when we got some baby tigers on our watch.

Tour Itinerary

• Early in the morning, our Sundarbans' journey will start in Mongla. Our guide will pick you up from Hotel Pashur.  Get your accommodation and breakfast on the boat.
• After the journey of two hours, the boat will stop at the Chadpai forest office to complete the formalities and to pick up an armed forest guard for security.
• We’ll cruise to visit  Harbaria eco-center,  a popular spot for Sundarbans.  It 30 minutes of walking through the sanctuary.
• We will cruise again through the deep forest. Experience the silence of the largest mangrove. In the evening, we’ll anchor our boat near the  Kochikhali  Forest office.  If time permits, we will make a small boat cruise through the canals.
• Overnight stay in Kochikhali.
• Today is our biggest day on the Sundarbans. Very early in the morning, we will start with a  boat trip  through the small creeks. The best time for making a boat trip is very early morning.  At a point, we’ll get off the small boat for a long walk into the forest office area.
• We will cruise for Kotka. It takes 2 hours to reach Kotka station. On this journey, you’ll see wildlife including deers, crocodiles, birds, otters, and Bengal monitors.
• We need an hour of walking to visit  Jamtola Sea beach.  This is an adventurous journey through the deep forest.  It's the Bay of Bengal where is our destination.
• After lunch, visit the  Kotka  wildlife sanctuary  area. This is the major point to see the group of deers. We will take enough time to explore the sanctuary and enjoy the sunset on the beach.
• Then, we’ll start the journey back. We will anchor the boat at the middle point of Sundarban in Chadpai/Jaimoni. Enjoy  B-B-Q Dinner  on the boat and make the day fulfilled.
• Early in the morning, we will make a small  boat trip  through the small creeks.
• We will visit a  fishing village  today.  The village also produces a lot of Shimp firms. Meet people to know their lifestyle. Spend an enjoyable moment with happy children.
• We will visit the Karamjal Crocodile breeding center. Actually, it is a zoo where you can see groups of deer and crocodiles in a cage.
• After lunch, make yourself ready to depart from the boat.  Finish the Sundarbans adventure.

• The itinerary could be changed because of tides, daylight hours, moon phase, and weather. But we'll cover all the mentioned places as per the itinerary.
• The small boats are best for the Sundarban cruise. We organize a private basis tour with the accommodation of 4-10 people with a reserved boat. The room size is quite smaller, no running hot water, electricity is supplied by the battery, and a small generator to charge up the electrical devices. But it’s comfortable to spend days with the facilities.
• We make the food on the boat by the experienced chef during the trip.
• The quantity of mosquitoes is more sometimes. You must carry the mosquito repellent for the trip.
• No phone signal works inside the deeper forest. But at some point, you will get a phone signal to call the emergency. If you use Bangladeshi TeleTalk SIM, we’ll get better coverage in a remote area like Kotka.
• The chance of seeing tigers is very rare in the Sundarbans. The lucky one gets the chance of it.

What about the permission of Chittagong Hill Tracts?

You must get permission to visit Chittagong Hill Tracts and it’s included in our package. Separate permission is required for Rangamati and Bandarban. We are an authorized company and you must not worry about that.

What kind of meals are included? Is customization possible?

Our Package includes complimentary breakfast at the hotels and lunch-dinner at good-quality restaurants. Bengali local food is spicy. Plain rice, vegetables, fish & meat are available in restaurants. Biriyani & Khichuri made of Rice, lentils, meat, and special spices are the famous food of old Dhaka also available in other cities. Non-spicy food is possible to order at most of the restaurants if you like. In Sundarbans, we have a special chef to make your food. We offer food for vegetarians. But there are limitations of items at some restaurants in remote areas.

Sundarban is in the lower catchment area of the Ganges-Brahmaputra (Padman-Jamuna) river system, which is the largest sediment basin in the world. Sundarban of Bangladesh are Ramsar sites (wetlands of global importance) and were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for Natural Heritage Sites of Global Importance. Tour Duration: Usual trips are 2 Nights and 3 days or 3 Nights and 4 days staying in the forest, the duration of the trip can be customized on-demand and the nature of the trip.

Good Time to Visit: October to February (winter), when the sun is mild and pleasant, is generally considered the best season for visiting though the Forest offers visitors spectacular sights and experiences all year round. From March to May (summer) and May to October (monsoon) temperatures and humidity are high, increasing chances for sighting snakes and nesting activities in the lush green vegetation. We organize trips throughout the year.

How to get there All travel through the Sundarbans is boat-based. All of our Sundarban tours start and end from and to Khulna/Mongla. Jessore is the closest airport, well connected with a regular shuttle service to Khulna. Bus and train services exist between Dhaka and Khulna.

• Flight:   There are quite many flights between Dhaka and Jessore in the morning, afternoon till early evening both ways, operated by Biman Bangladesh airline, Novo Air and US-Bangla airline. It is about 40 minutes of flight one way to Jessore. The airline offers cheaper shuttle bus services between Jessore Airport and Khulna at a very reasonable rate, and it takes about 2/3 hours depending on traffic and road conditions. And it will take 15/20 minutes more to the boat by rickshaw from the bus stop. Mongla is about an hour or 45 minutes more driving distance by private car. Public bus services between Khulna and Mongla are not recommended for our guests. We can arrange transfers by private vehicle from the airport to the boat on a hassle freeway. Please check the respective airline’s website for the latest flight table and fare chart.
• Train:  There are day and overnight train services between Dhaka-Khulna, which take about 8 to 10 hours each way, plus the delay time. All the train on this route has AC and Non – AC seats, and the overnight train has sleeping cabins too. Please be informed that most of the sleeping cabins are 4 bedded, each compartment has only 2nos, two-bedded cabins. Almost impossible to reserve two-bedded cabins while booking online or purchase the tickets from a station counter, as they are in high demand; still, you can get it by luck. While a couple buying two seats in a sleeping cabin should be aware that there will be two other strangers in the same cabin.

• Public Bus: A good number of AC and Non-AC bus services are in operation between Dhaka – Khulna, during the day and night. Recommended bus companies are Greenline, Shohag Paribahan, TR-Travels, and Desh Travels. AC bus companies are providing quite good services, and the seats are very comfortable and spacious on VOLVO, Hino, Hyundai, Scania and Mercedes buses. It takes around 4-5 hours from Dhaka to Khulna by bus via the newly built Padma Bridge, roads are fantastic all the way.
• Waterways: BIWTA (Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority) operate some water transports between Dhaka and Morrelgonj. The famous old Paddle steamer Launch “Rocket” is one of them besides many modern public ships. Anyone availing of these water transports, should disembark at Hularhat or Morrelgonj and then reach the boat by a reserved transport from the Rocket station, which we can look after. Usually, Rocket (paddle Steamer) leaves from Sadarghat Rocket Ghat at 6:30 PM. In normal situations (of weather and tide) the Paddle steamer arrives in Hularhat by 11 AM. While travelling without a guide, please ask any of the crew onboard to be sure about your approximate arrival time at your destination. Traditional Bangla food can be ordered on the boat for dinner, please don’t forget to order the food well ahead. The Rocket has a particular schedule for trips, which often breaks the plan due to technical issues or so, which does not allow us to make any commitment for this ship reservation. We always try our best to get first-class A/C cabin(s) in the paddle steamer , which is mostly reserved for high government officials and has a minimal slot for public sale/tourists.
• Reserved car transfer: We offer private transport services between Dhaka – the boat, both ways at a reasonable cost.  

Accommodation in Khulna:  While you are arriving in Khulna by the night before the trip starts, we would arrange your accommodation either at a good hotel or on the houseboat, subject to its availability. Parjatan Motel “Pashur” is the only option for accommodation in Mongla. Pashur is owned and run by the Bangladesh government, and this hotel offers basic services with AC and Non-AC rooms. Nevertheless, this is the most secure place in the town.

What to expect on the boat:

A trip to Sundarban is based on a Ship/launch/houseboat for accommodation and meals for the entire excursion period in the forest. Usually, two nights – 3 days or three-night – 4 days trips are conducted and preferred by most local and foreign travelers over the weekends (Friday – Sunday). It is also possible to organize a day excursion around the forest’s fringes through the most touristic spots: Koromjol and Herbaria forest stations. Khulna and Mongla are the stations for all the boats for Sundarbans trips. Therefore, the journey starts and ends at these (same) places; embarking on the ship from Khulna/ Mongla on Day 1 early morning and disembarking in Khulna/Mongla on Day 3/ 4 after dinner/lunch. Accommodations are twin-sharing bunk beds up to quadruple bunk-bedded cabins. None of the cabins is with attached bathrooms, and shared bathrooms are located on the boat’s backside on the same floor as your cabins. As of now, there are no ships with running hot water for showering. A person sensitive to cold showers may request warm water from the kitchen. The number of bathrooms is according to the size of the boat, low commodes and high commodes (western seats) are both available on the same boat.

Forming a group according to your budget:

Either on a smaller private boat or joining a bigger group (between 20 to 50 PAX) on a big ship is the usual way to travel Sundarbans. Joining a bigger group may pull down the costs to a reasonable range for budget travelers, worth costly to be in a private smaller boat. Private/ smaller boat trip connects you with the nature and forest. A small group tour is probably the better way to feel the forest and spot more wildlife. On the other hand, being a part of a bigger group can also be interesting because of the multicultural interaction among the group members but has fewer connections to the forest and nature. We do not insist you on a cheaper or an expensive trip but this is actually the fact. Your trip will be arranged according to your choice.

Forest Entrance Permission is Required:

Sundarban is a national forest and UNESCO world heritage site which includes many sanctuaries. Trips to Sundarban are controlled; prior permission is required for local and foreign travelers, which we will take care of on your behalf. While entering the forest, every tourist vessel must visit a forest ranger’s station to complete necessary forest permission formalities and pick up some forest-armed guards on board to accompany the group throughout the trip. All these formalities require some fees.  We would need the passport copies of all foreign visitors during the trip confirmations or at least a week prior to (Sundarbans) trip departure, and that is all from your side; we will do the rest to make your trip memorable.

Areas we mostly cover The Sundarban Forest is the largest single block of mangroves in the world and the only mangrove with tigers. Has the highest diversity of flora & fauna and a complex ecosystem, influenced by fresh-water inflow, proximity to the Bay of Bengal and human activities. At least one-third of the total area is permanently covered by water, therefore boat is the only way to explore the magic of this forest. The biodiversity is highest in the southeastern part. Wildlife diversity and visibility are best here, due to the open sea-facing meadows. Therefore, most of our excursions are within South-Eastern Sanctuaries named Kotka and Kochikhali.

Honey Hunting trip (April – May)

The Sundarban is one of the country’s richest sources of honey, every year groups of honey hunter enter into the western part of the forest in April-May. Hunting starts with an official inauguration ceremony of Annual Honey Collection Season, we will follow a group of Honey Collector’s (Mawali’s) in-order to join their search for precious honey in Burigoalini – a livelihood that has survived through the centuries. Every year over the season some 5 to 10 Mawali’s are attacked and eaten by tiger. However, this is a physically demanding tour, but unique and unforgettable – A true adventure in the Land of the Tiger.

Bonbibi (Goddess of forest) Mela in January

Sundarban provides valuable resources such as fish, shrimp, crab, wood, nypa, grass, honey and wax. Therefore, the community around the sundarban has been extracting and making their life from the forest resources, including fishermen (Jele), wood-cutters (Bawali) and honey collectors (Mawali), pray for a safe return to Bonbibi, guardian spirit of the forests venerated by both the Hindu and the Muslim residents of the Sundarbans. Along the forest edge permanent temples are built in her honor. The clay figurines are replaced and colorfully decorated once a year as like any other Hindu goddess in Indian subcontinent; a unique festive occasion with music, theaters and fairs.

Dubla Rash Purnima Mela

(Dependent on Lunar Calendar, normally end of November)

Dubla Rash Mela is one of the biggest fairs in the country and takes place on Dubla Island. Dubla Island is standing at the mouth of the Holy River Ganges at the coastal edge of the Sundarbans forest, inhabited by fishermen during the winter months. The fair on Dubla Island was started in 1923 by Hari Bhajan. The life of Hari Bhajan was very extraordinary. During his stay in Sundarbans Forest for more than twenty-four years, he lived on the fruits of the forest. In his memory, his devotees, especially the fishermen of the Sundarbans, organize the five-day fair every year during the Rash Purnima (full moon) which falls in the Bengali month of Agrahayan. Thousands of temporary fishermen are at the center of the festival, who are engaged in catching and drying fish on Dubla and nearby islands. The fair has become a grand occasion for many local and foreign tourists to visit the Sundarbans. Approximately 40-50 thousand Hindu pilgrims join the celebrations every year, the devotees congregate in long lines at the water’s edge in the early hours, holding their offerings and awaiting their blessing. This tour might be a special treat for photographers and travelers interested in local culture, traditions and festivals.

Fishing with Trained Otters

No other country will ever give you the excitement of such a unique traditional fishing technique . Bangladesh is the only place where fishermen still practice 200 years old tradition of fishing with their trained otters. This is way beyond anything you could ever imagine. Fishermen from the Narail/Gopalgonj area breed and train their otters to increase the catch. Mainly they work in the rivers north of the forest at night, they also enter the Sundarban forest. Normally this tour will take place in their home villages, but sometimes we follow them from their village to Sundarban.

The Sundarbans is home to numerous rare and endangered species, such as the Bengal tiger, the Irrawaddy dolphin, the estuarine crocodile, and the fishing cat. It is a sanctuary for bird watchers due to the abundance of waterbirds, raptors, woodpeckers, kingfishers, bee-eaters, cuckoos, drongos, bulbuls, and warblers, among other species.

The Sundarbans have been helping endangered species such as the White-rumped Vulture (Gyps bengalensis), the Masked Finfoot (Helopais personatus), the Brown-winged Kingfisher (Pelargopsis amauroptera), and the Mangrove (Pittosporum megarhynchum). Little is known about the avifauna of the Sundarbans. The Sundarbans of Bangladesh are home to 299 avian species, including 160 resident and 139 migratory species. There are three species that are critically endangered, four species that are endangered, three species that are vulnerable, and 19 species that are near-threatened.

There are many Sundarban tour operators that offer different types of package tours to the Sundarbans National Park in West Bengal. Most are predefined group tours with fixed itineraries and can either be day tours, overnight, or multiple nights with set accommodations included. You will be picked up from Kolkata and dropped back there and can either stay aboard a boat or on land. Hotels and resorts also provide their guests with tour packages.

Help Tourism Sundarbans Jungle Camp

Help Tourism specializes in purposeful, eco-friendly travel to natural areas in east and northeast India. The organization has its own "resort", the Sundarbans Jungle Camp on Bali Island, and boats for river cruises. The resort was built in partnership with locals to provide them with a livelihood and reduce tiger-human conflict. Its six comfortable, ethnic thatched cottages with modern attached bathrooms are located on the banks of the Bidya river. Locals are all employed in the running of the resort and as guides.

Tour packages of various lengths from two to four nights are available. Expect to pay around 40,000 rupees for a private three-day package for two people. This includes transport from Kolkata, accommodations, all meals, boat cruises, naturalist and local guide, park entrance fees, village experience, and country boat ride. Special birding tours are also possible. Bookings can be made through the Help Tourism website, although unfortunately, it's not very ​user-friendly.

Tour de Sundarban

Tour de Sundarban (also known as Backpackers) has its own exclusive purpose-built accommodations and boats as well. The solar-powered Eco Village, located on Satjelia island, has 20 mud cottages with attached western bathrooms, hammocks, and a community center for travelers to hang out in. The company was founded by three "brothers" (they are actually an uncle, nephew, and cousin), who were so inspired by a visit to the Sundarbans that they decided to start taking other people on trips there.

Their tours are most suited to energetic, adventurous and sociable people, who are not looking for luxuries—but rather a village feel, fun ambiance, and value for money. The accommodations are rustic and local transport, including ferries and rickshaws, is used (which is all part of having an authentic experience).

Two and three-day packages are offered, as well as day tours. Their rates include transport, accommodation, Bengali food, permits, boat safari, village walk, and evening performances from local musicians. Expect to pay 5,500 rupees per person for two night, three days. There is an option to spend one night on the boat. Tours are usually limited to 15 people. One-day tours are possible for groups of four or more. The cost is 3,000 rupees per person.

Sundarban Chalo

Sundarban Chalo is another tour company, run by a group of four brothers, that provides budget backpacker-style tours to the Sundarbans. The tours are similar to those offered by Tour de Sundarban. The main difference is the accommodations, which are non-exclusive. Guests stay in basic cottages at a "resort" in Pakhiralay on Gosaba Island, near where the main market is. Again, don't expect luxuries or resort-style facilities. The tour includes a sunset at the Sundarban Bird Jungle, local village walk, and visits to Hamilton Bungalow and Rabindranath Tagore Bungalow. Sundarban Chalo also operates a day tour from Kolkata. The price for group tours ranges from 2,800 rupees per person for one day, increasing to 5,300 to 6,800 rupees per person for three days. The company conducts the tours using its own boat, built in 2015.

Sundarban Eco Tourism

Based in Gosaba, at the entrance to Sundarbans National Park, Sundarban Eco Tourism is popular with domestic Indian tourists. The company has been in business since 2015 and offers reasonably priced tour packages ranging from one to three days. The tours depart from Kolkata, and guests can opt to travel either by train (the cheapest way) or car. Expect to pay 2,600 rupees per person for a one-day package by car. A three-day package by car costs 5,000-7,000 rupees per person, depending on the number of jungle safaris. Accommodations are provided in decent budget hotels in Pakhiralay.

If you'd prefer to stay on a boat rather than on land, and you're looking for a private and personalized tour experience with a touch of luxury, check out Sundarban Houseboat. The unique boat has been specially designed and renovated to provide ​inviting classy hotel-style accommodations. You won't need to sacrifice comfort to stay on this boat. There are three bedrooms, all with attached western bathrooms, that can accommodate groups of 14 to 25 people in total. Facilities include air conditioning, flat screen TVs in all rooms, living and dining room with sofas, kitchen with gourmet chef, sun deck with loungers, library, games, and movies.

Packages are available for a duration of one to four nights (or more, on request!), visiting various watchtowers, islands, and villages. The boat can be hired exclusively, or on a per room basis. Rates vary according to guest requirements. Book as far in advance as possible because it is popular!

Vivada Sundarban Cruises

Another option for a luxury Sundarban cruise is aboard Vivada's M.V. Paramhamsa. This huge cruiser has four decks with 16 state cabins of 165 square feet and, 10 state cabins of 135 sqaure feet, as well as a sun deck, bar, restaurant, coffee shop, and massage parlor with steam and sauna room. The boat sails to the Sundarbans weekly from Kolkata, with three-night packages available. Day trips and excursions along creeks are organized in a smaller vessel, and there are numerous opportunities for village visits. Cultural programs also take place in the evenings on the boat's sundeck. Rates start from around 50,000 rupees per person for three nights.

The organization has two large cruisers, Sarbajaya (the better of the two) and Chitralekha. The one-night tour package includes visits to Sudhanyakhali, Sajnekhali, and Dobanki watchtowers. The two-night package includes an additional visit to Jhingakhali watchtower.

What you need to keep in mind when booking these tours is that the boats can not travel through the more narrow waterways due to their large size. Being restricted to wide waterways means less chance of wildlife sightings. Plus, these are group tours with up to 50 people. Expect to pay around 6,500 rupees per person for two nights.

Regular Tour Itinerary

Day-01: Dhaka City Tour and Launch cruise towards Hularhat nearby Bagerhat

Start from your hotel early in the morning by A/C car. The day is involved in the overloaded city is being chaos by the mixed people, key attractions, and historical places from Mughal-British period like Sadarghat (riverfront), Nawab’s (King’s) Palace which is also known as Ahsan Manzil or ‘Pink Palace’, Lalbagh Fort , Star Mosque, Armenian Church, Dhakeswari Temple, National Parliament Building. In the evening board into the British built rocket steamer/ship first-class cabin to enjoy the rivers of life while our guide will story a tale about the peoples and culture of the river.

Day-02: World Heritage Site – The City of Mosque at Bagerhat.

You will find the sun rising over the river at  Barisal while many passengers are leaving and coming in the steamer. it is fantastic on the way to cruise to Hularhat around the rare scenic beauty. Around 10:00 AM disembark the steamer for Bagerhat once Khalitabad city of Khan Jahan Ali who was the saint and independent ruler of southwest Bangladesh during the Medieval sultanate rule in the 15th Century when he built many mosques and water reservoir including the Sixty Dome Mosque over the spiritual nature saved by Khan Jahan Ali. Visit Sixty Dome Mosque  and shrine of  Khan Jahan Ali  before heading Mongla from Hularhat. Spend your evening at the nearest river ports-bazaars or have rest for the day. Night stay at the hotel or Sundarbans boat.

Day-03: Sundarbans: Herbaria & Kochikhali Wildlife Sanctuary.

Early in the morning, the boat starts its cruise to Chandpai where you can watch  dolphin  meantime our forest guard joining into the boat in the way of the Sundarban forest cruise, the boat or ship cross much fascinating scenery while you may imagine sighting a crocodile basking in the sun, a herd of deer may be amazed by seeing under the trees or birds of prey make your journey memorable. Visit  Harbaria Eco-Center and  start the journey again. Late in the afternoon, arrive at  Kochikhali  Forest area and make a canal cruise that will be arranged for watching wildlife. Night stay at the boat in Kochikhali.

Day-04: Sundarbans: Kachikhali and Katka Wildlife Sanctuary.

Start your day with a small  boat cruise  through the creeks and experience the sound of birds and watch wildlife in front of your eyes. After breakfast, a  journey  from Kochikhali to Katka would be a wonderful experience of watching wildlife.  Walk inside  the deep forest, climb to the watchtower and go for  Jamtola Sea Beach  before lunch. In the afternoon on arrival Katka Forest area, to explore  Tiger & Deer points  where many deer and monkey are common habitats to survive under the Keora trees. Enjoy sunset at the Bay of Bengal and  B-B-Q dinner  on the boat. Night stay on the boat.

Day-05: Sundarbans & Dhaka: Dolphin Watch, Crocodile Breeding Center.

On the last day of the adventure, make a canal cruise in the morning, visit a fishing village and experience their lifestyle.  Watch Dolphins at Daingmari range and cruise toward Karamjal Crocodile breeding center (Zoo). After having lunch, depart from the boat and drive toward Jessore Airport. Fly Dhaka with the experience of a wonderful expedition.

• Timing and assembling could change because of traffic.
• Bengali local food is spicy. Plain rice, vegetables, fish & meat are available in restaurants. (Non-spicy food is possible to order at most of the restaurant.)
• It requires modest clothes to visit any mosque.
• The dress of shorts is not a problem in the Sundarbans area.
• Ahsan Manzil is closed on Thursday and opens Fridays after 3:00 pm. Lalbagh Fort is closed on Sundays and open on Mondays after 2:00 pm. Ahsan Manzil and Lalbagh Fort are also closed on government holidays.
• The small boats are best for the Sundarbans. The room size is quite smaller, no running hot water, electricity is supplied by the battery, and the small generator to charge up the electrical devices. But it’s comfortable to spend days with the facilities. You must carry mosquito repellent for the trip. No phone signal works inside the deeper forest, but at some point, you will get a phone signal to call an emergency.  The chance of seeing tigers is very rare in the Sundarbans.

Sundarban is called after the Sundari tree. People proposed to name the forest as Samudrabon (Samudra is to Sea and Bon is to forest). But it is not implemented.

We can trace back to 200 – 300 AD to know the history. Chanda Sadagar built the ruin of a city in the Baghmara forest block. Mughals leased the forest to nearby people during that period.

The Royal Bengal Tiger is our national animal.It is mainly found in Bangladesh and India. It lives in a variety of habitats including grasslands, subtropical and tropical rainforests and mangroves. In Bangladesh and India its main habitat is the Sunderbans Mangrove Forest. Royal Bengal Tiger is also the national animal of India.

The Sundarbans is the largest mangrove forest in the world. It lies at the mouth of the Ganges and is spread across areas of Bangladesh and West Bengal of India, forming the seaward fringe of the delta. In Bengali “Sundarban” means “beautiful jungle” or “beautiful forest” but the name may have been originated from the Sundari trees that are found in Sundarbans in plenty. Two-thirds of the forest (62%) is in the southwest corner of Bangladesh while the rest is in the West Bengal. To the south of Sundarbans is the Bay of Bengal. Male Tigers sometimes measure more than 3 meters with their tail. Their weight is around 200-220 kilograms. Females are an average of 100-130 kg in weight. Average lifespan of the tigers is around 10-12 years.

In the wild, Bengal Tigers are pure carnivores and hunt medium-sized and large-sized animals, such as wild boar, deer, gaurs and water buffalo. They also prey on smaller animals like hares, monkeys, langurs and peacocks. But the Bengal Tiger is well known for its liking of chital (sambar deer) as its favorite food. The numbers of royal Bengal Tigers have decreased during the last decades because of illegal hunting of these mammals for their skins and certain bones which are thought to have healing powers in traditional Chinese herbal medicine and because of habitat destruction by human population. The actual number of tigers in the Sundarbans part of Bangladesh is unclear but thought to vary between 300 to 400. U.N reports state that on an average 40 tigers are getting killed each year which is extremely high and if not to be stopped now will bring this wonderful animal on the verge of extinction very soon. Sadly, most probably they will survive only in cartoons and animations Surprisingly in the Indian side, although it is only one-third of Sundarbans, the numbers of Bengal Tigers are two to three times higher than Bangladesh part. A large portion of the jungle has been deforested by local people for agricultural purposes. Areas which were deep and inaccessible forest even a decade ago are now turned into human settlements and crop lands The people living in sundarbans are mainly ‘bawalis’ who collect golpata, mouals who collect honey and woodcutters. They make dwellings about 3 to 5 meters high for fear of wild animals including tigers and snakes. Every year a number of people fall pray to tigers, specially by aged tigers who no longer are physically fit enough to run after young prey like sambar deers.

1st. Day:   Our vessel awaiting in Khulna Rupsha ferry ghat early in the morning within 6:00 am. Then start cruise towards the Sundarban forest. On the way, the boat will stop at Dhangmari /  Chandpai Forest station. Take the permit & pay the fees and take 2 forest armed guard then visit Harabia Forest Office.  The cruising will continue till Kotka upon arrival.

2nd. Day:   Very early in the morning take the small boat for cruise through the small canal for bird watching trip inside forest. Back to the ship and take breakfast then walk through the Mangrove forest and climbing the watch tower to Jamtala sea-beach for sunbath, back to ship  then the boat will resume its journey towards the Forest which will continue till Kochikhali.Upon arrival, the accompanying Guide will lead you towards the Kochikhali Forest Office, where you will find plenty of deer, Monkey, birds etc. Back to the boat, snacks will be served. On this evening, Bar-B-Q dinner will serve. Our vessel will start in the evening journey to Dhangmari/Chandpai forest office upon arrival and stay overnight.

3rd. Day:   After breakfast we will visit the Karamjal forest office and resume its journey towards Khulna. On the way, Take a stopover for surrender forest permission and get down arms guard.  We shall reach Khulna in the evening.       End…………..
