About Daryl Hall & John Oates

From the mid-’70s to the mid-’80s, the duo would score six #1 singles, including “Rich Girl” (also #1 R&B), “Kiss on My List,” “Private Eyes,” “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do) (also #1 R&B), “Maneater” and “Out of Touch” from their six consecutive multi-platinum albums—’76’s Bigger Than Both of Us , ’80’s Voices , ’81’s Private Eyes , ‘82’s H2O , ‘83’s Rock N Soul, Part I and ‘84’s Big Bam Boom . The era would also produce an additional 5 Top 10 singles, “Sara Smile,” “One on One,” “You Make My Dreams,” “Say It Isn’t So” and “Method of Modern Love.” By 1987, the RIAA recognized Daryl Hall and John Oates as the NUMBER-ONE SELLING DUO in music history, a record they still hold today.

On May 20, 2008, the duo was honored with the Icon Award during BMI’s 56th annual Pop Awards. The award has previously gone to the Bee Gees, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Paul Simon, Brian Wilson, Willie Nelson, James Brown, Ray Davies, Carlos Santana and Dolly Parton.

In 2014, Daryl and John were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.  2017 finds Daryl Hall and John Oates very much at the height of their powers making their own kind of soul, with a new generation of musicians recognizing not only their historic track record of success, but also their continuing influence and achievements.

About Tears For Fears

Beyond selling 30 million albums worldwide, performing to countless sold out audiences, and winning various awards, the DNA of Tears For Fears—Roland Orzabal [vocals, guitar, keyboards] and Curt Smith [vocals, bass, keyboards]—remains embedded within three generations of artists. Quietly casting a shadow over rock, hip-hop, electronic dance music, indie, and beyond, their music has been sampled by Kanye West, The Weeknd, David Guetta, Drake, and more, while getting covered by Lorde, Adam Lambert, Ally Brooke Hernandez, Gary Jules, and Disturbed, to name a few. Meanwhile, classic songs figure prominently everywhere from The Wire and Donnie Darko to Straight Outta Compton and Mr. Robot .

Representing an inimitable intersection of pop palatability, clever and cognizant lyricism, guitar bombast, and new wave innovation, their catalog spans a string of classic albums, namely the gold-certified debut The Hurting [1983], quintuple-platinum BRIT Award-winning Songs from the Big Chair [1985], and Seeds of Love [1989]. The latter proved to be Roland and Curt’s last collaboration together until Everybody Loves A Happy Ending in 2004, which rekindled the creative fire between them. Breaking another quiet spell, the boys engaged in a three-year touring whirlwind across North America, Japan, South Korea, Manila, and South America beginning in 2010. 2013 saw them return with their first recorded music in a decade: a cover of Arcade Fire’s “Ready to Start.” It proved to be a welcome addition to their three-decade discography of immortal hits ranging from “Mad World,” “Change,” and “Pale Shelter” to “Everybody Wants To Rule The World,” “Shout,” “Sowing The Seeds of Love,” and “Everybody Loves A Happy Ending.” Now, 2017 marks the beginning of a new era for the band. Signed to Warner Bros. Records, they will release their seventh full-length album, fifth for Roland and Curt together, and first in 13 years following a summer co-headline tour with Daryl Hall & John Oates.

About Allen Stone

On his third full-length album, soul artist Allen Stone proves himself deeply devoted to making uncompromisingly soulful music that transcends all pop convention.

Made in collaboration with Swedish soul singer/songwriter/phenom Magnus Tingsek, Radius captures the warm energy of that creative connection and transports the listener to a higher and more exalted plane. Now including seven exciting bonus tracks, Radius Deluxe will be available March 25th. Among them will be the previously unreleased songs “Voodoo” and “Faithful” as well as a new version of Stone’s energetic single “Freedom”.

The New York Times said the Chewelah, Washington-bred 28-year-old’s lyrics on Radius “promise honest sentiments, grooves built with physical instruments and a gospel-rooted determination to uplift ... glimmers of Al Green, Bill Withers, Curtis Mayfield, George Clinton, Prince and a bit of Sting."

Tearing through nearly 600 shows in just two years - including sold out performances at LA’s Ace Hotel and NYC’s Apollo Theater – Allen Stone is determined to make 2017 yet another impactful year of writing and performance.

Tears For Fears are a New Wave band hailing from Bath, England who formed in 1981. They were one of the most commercially succesful British bands of the 1980’s, selling millions of albums and headlining arenas all over the world with their dark hued synth-pop.

Driving the band ever since their formation has been the partnership of Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, who met while they were teenagers at the same school in their native city Bath, in Somerset, England. Both of them were very musically talented and had chemistry together right away, performing together as The Baker Brothers around local pubs and clubs when they were a mere sixteen years old. However, they soon grew out of their band name, and since they opened their gigs with a cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Mrs. Robinson”, the duo decided to rename themselves after the film that the song was made famous in.

As the ska/mod revival band Graduate, the band secured themselves a publishing deal and an extra three members backing the original duo. They ended up releasing an album and a single in 1980 but both tanked in the U.K, despite making some small waves over Europe. By 1981, however, both Orzabal and Smith had moved on from what they were playing in Graduate, and wanted to start playing music influenced by the likes of Peter Gabriel, David Byrne and Brian Eno. They disbanded Graduate and formed a band influenced by the most cutting edge music of the time called History Of Headaches. They soon came to their senses and renamed the band Tears For Fears.

Using the connections they’d built with their previous group, the band secured a record deal with Phonogram Records the very same year they formed and expanded the group to a four piece with the addition of drummer Manny Elias and bassist Ian Stanley. Their first single came out in the November of that year, but “Suffer The Children” failed to chart despite it being play listed by the massively influential Radio One DJ John Peel, and their second single, “Pale Shelter”, didn’t do much better. Things looked bleak for the band, but their third single would prove to be their making as a band. In November 1982, “Mad World” peaked at number three on the U.K charts and is one of the most enduring hits of the 1980’s to this day.

With a head of steam and masses of momentum, the band’s debut album, “The Hurting”, was released in March 1983 and spent 65 weeks in the album charts, peaking at number one and going platinum with ease. They had a further two top five singles in the U.K with “Change” and a re-recorded and re-released “Pale Shelter”, and the album, along with its three singles, saw high chart placements all over the world. Tears For Fears became one of the hottest bands in the world within the space of a single year, and they had the world at their feet. One would assume that this would be the point that they’d blow it, and truth be told, they nearly did.

Between late 1983 and early 1984, the band released two singles that were more experimental than most were expecting. The first of them “The Way You Are” stalled in the Top 30 and its follow up “Mother’s Talk”, did peak in the Top 20, but its release was delayed when the band had to re-produce the whole single from top to bottom after being unimpressed by the initial results. However, the bands fortunes were sealed in November 1984 with the single “Shout”, was yet another Top Five hit for the group in the U.K, and the album it came from “Songs From The Big Chair”, went to number two on the charts and stayed in the Top Ten for six months.

However, they’d done all that before. What they hadn’t done, up until that point, was make much of a commercial impact in America. “Songs From The Big Chair” did just that on its release in the U.S, hitting the number one spot on the Billboard 200 for five weeks and “Shout” topping the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks the following August. They had officially made it, and ever since then they’ve been one of the most acclaimed bands of the 80’s, with songs like the aforementioned singles and “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” becoming pop standards for generations afterwards. They’re still a pretty unmissable live act to this day, and still come highly recommended.

Live reviews

My wife and I saw TFF at the TABLE MOUNTAIN CASINO (!!) in Fresno, CA almost 10 years ago now. They are freaking awesome!!

I was under the impression that since they were settling for doing casino venues, that they were on their way out. Boy was I wrong!!

I was introduced to their music by accident, when a roommate of mine back in 1985 put on his HURTING LP unbeknownst to me. The opening riffs of the title track absolutely entranced and mesmerized me!! I had never heard of them or of this song. It was actually a while later before I listened to the whole album....and years later still when I stumbled back into their library of everything after SONGS FROM THE BIG CHAIR (since I had tickets for that casino show). Its actually the LATER stuff that reeled me in, hook line and sinker!! As GREAT as the 1st 2 albums were, their later gems just blew me away!!!

At that show they busted out a rock jam that I wasn't familiar with....turns out it was SORRY. Holy shit!! These guys are unbelievable!!!

That song, and COLD, SOWING THE SEEDS, RAOUL AND THE KINGS, etc....launched TFF solidly into my 4th fave band of all time.

(Sorry, ZEP, FLOYD and RUSH will always be my trifecta at the top)

The anchor song on arguably their BEST album, EVERYBODY LOVES A HAPPY ENDING, "THE LAST DAYS ON EARTH", catapulted itself to my 5th favorite song of all time!!

I loooove TFF....and I hope to get to see them again!!!!

TFF always puts on a great show, and yes, they are one of my top 5 bands of all time. I've seen them 7 times now and our daughter who is 19 now has seen them 3 times as well. Her first show was Little River Band when she was 3 months with ear plugs at the back of the venue up in the mountains of Colorado in Cripple Creek in 1999. Ironically, the current lead singer Wayne Nelson came to the back of that small venue and told the crowd, "this is truly a life experience for us all to be able to share this moment with your newborn child, we thank you for that." He was absolutely right, because, music has the ability to bring both friends together, and generations as well. TFF is the consummate band in their Genre to be that bridge, thank-you Roland and Curt, I'll be eternally grateful for your contribution and book of music.

Sadly enough, Robert Plant is an egotistical, narcissist who can't understand the concept of nostalgia and that concept of bringing us back together to those "good old days and times".

I'll hold on to a flicker of hope, but, time is starting to run out. Fortunately Mick and the crew are on slate for this coming summer, "pleased to meet you, hope you guess my name"...

The acclaimed duo Tears For Fears comprising of Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith were an important player in the British new wave scene of the 1980s. Following the release of their debut album 'The Hurting' is 1983 which topped the UK chart and won critics' praise, the band has been on a steady rise.

Despite having not released new material in over ten years, fans still swarm to the venue to see the iconic pair perform live and hear the classic music that has soundtracked many people's lives. With their distinctive vocal and melancholic tones, the staging is suitably sparse as the duo leads the accompanying band into position. The music created is ethereal, spanning and spine chilling all at once as favourites such as 'Everybody Wants to Run the World' are delivered with an expert level of poignancy.

All of the classics are included this evening including 'Sowing the Seeds of Love', 'Woman In Chains' and 'Head over Heels'. Yet it is perhaps there most iconic track 'Mad World' that receives the largest reaction from the crowd, the duo give this the slightest of tentative smiles as they clearly still enjoy playing this somber gem.

I saw Tears for Fears a few years ago at the San Jose Civic Auditorium in San Jose, California. The venue was relatively large, seating about 3,000 or so, and the band filled every single seat in that room; I don’t think that any of them actually got used, however!

The two-man band had a motley crew of assorted musicians backing them up, and they didn’t hit a sour note the whole night. As the group had its heyday in the 1980s, the crowd skewed older, but clearly hearing the group play brought them back to their younger years as everybody let loose and just plain had a great time.

The lighting in the auditorium was decent, nothing special; but this meant that it complemented the music, rather than distracting from the band. When Everybody Wants to Rule the World played, I’m pretty sure that absolutely every single one of the 3,000 in attendance sang every word – maybe when Tears for Fears sang that “Nothing ever lasts forever,” maybe they were excluding their own songs!

The duo is working on a new album, so when that comes out everybody should make sure to catch the tour when it comes to their city.

Wasn't sure how good they would be after all this time, but I wasn't disappointed. Tears for Fears were better than I've ever heard them before. Their voices were amazing and blended so well together. The accompanying singer was also fabulous as was Alison Moyet who was supporting them but can stand in her own right. Hearing all the old songs gave me a real sense of nostalgia. I can honestly say it was one of the best gigs I've been to in a while and I go to many. I've never heard an audience sing so determinedly last night to get them back on stage for an encore. It was so good I've booked tickets for another date to see them. Well done lads you did yourselves proud.

Saw Tears for Fears live at the Q and was very impressed! They performed a bunch of songs spanning their career. Their voices are still amazing as is their playing. Interestingly, they would sometimes speak between songs, which was cool to hear. The music was strong and power-driven and the feel of it was amazing, not to mention the coordinated light show and the opening. I'd love to see them again and plan on it when they come back. DON'T HESITATE SEEING THEM. THEY WILL BLOW YOU AWAY. I was very satisfied and more to say the least, glad to see one of my favorite bands. I will never forget the experience of seeing Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith live and in person.

Been to Delemere before always good when the weather’s alright. I’ve been to a ridiculous amount of gigs in my life and have a very eclectic taste. My best or favourite being The Cure and The Soundgarden and I would have to say that this was right at the top of my best gigs of all time!!

People might see Tears for fears as easy listening but at the time when they came out they were obscure and very left field from all that surrounded them. So pleased to see that Curt and Roland are working together again as they (as one) together are Tears for Fears. Pale Shelter rocked and I stole that moment in time on my camera phone

We had the pleasure of seeing Tears for Fears a few years ago at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles and they were awesome!! They sounded amazing and let me tell you....they still have their mojo! The entire audience was up out of their seats and singing along with the band. Kurt and Roland just keep getting better and better. We go to alot of concerts but that concert was one of our favorites. Now we can't wait to see them again this Summer when they come to LA on tour with another favorite power duo....Hall and Oates!!! Just when you thought life couldn't get any better!

Tears for Fears NEVER disappoints! They always sound incredibly good. We had seats in the front of the balcony at the Wiltern and I have never felt it shake the way it did that night. I was actually a bit nervous sitting up there. It was insane -- but in a good way.

Also caught them at Jimmy Kimmel Live. Had to watch from outside (peeking thru a crack in the fence), because we arrived just as they closed the gate. Stood outside and listened along with other latecomers...still a fun night and worth the drive. Just don't be late at Kimmel!

Tears for Fears Announce 2023 North American Tour

By Jazz Monroe

Tears for Fears Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith

Tears for Fears are heading out on a summer tour of North America. The Tipping Point Tour Part II kicks off in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on June 23, and wraps up six weeks later in Los Angeles. Cold War Kids will support on all dates.

Tears for Fears returned in 2021, announcing The Tipping Point —their first album in 17 years—and explaining that “before everything went so right with this album, everything first had to go wrong. It took years, but something happens when we put our heads together.” They began touring the record last year, playing shows with Alison Moyet and Garbage.

Tears for fears announces 2023 north american tour dates.

Posted by Buddy Iahn | Apr 3, 2023

Tears for Fears

Love The Pearl! Got seats Row bB section 203 dead center, awesome! Beers are $7, guess that's to be expected at a concert

Front row seat (there was physically no seat but I was right at the front of the stage). Have loved this band since the 80's but had never seen them live. Most excellent experience! The theatre itself is very nice. Seating for about 2500 people but it seemed more intimate than that.

Just saw John Prine in concert last night and it was excellent. The Pearl is small enough that every seat is great and you still get that concert feel. There were large video screens on each side of the stage for detailed views and the sound was amazing! It was a perfect mix of vocals and music, and that doesn't happen very often. It was easy to get in and out and the handicap accommodations were superb. I would be thrilled to see another show here again!

Loved this intimate venue. 2500 seats, all are good (I should know, I was close to the back). Stayed at the Palms and liked it too.

We are locals and have been to many many concerts in Las Vegas. Came here to see Alice Cooper! He wowed us. We were in section 203 row D and could see the stage perfectly. The sound system is first class and you can feel the music. The lower front section is more for people who want to stand throughout the concert. We preferred being able to sit. Great venue, can't wait to be back.

Great concert venue - it's small and views of the stage are great from just about any location. I would love to see another show here.

How Tears for Fears Helped Launch Oleta Adams’ Global Career

Performances and Artists

Four-Time Grammy Nominee Oleta Adams to Perform R&B, Pop and Gospel Hits

All her life, Oleta Adams’ powerful vocals have made a big impression.

Even in her childhood, her striking singing and piano playing earned her the responsibility of directing four choirs in her church at age 11.

“I loved being a part of bringing joy and solace to people when I sang,” said Adams, now a platinum recording artist and four-time Grammy nominee. “It made me feel that I had something significant to contribute to the world, and that became the main reason for making it my career.”

Adams’ vocals made another important impression years later, when the iconic band Tears for Fears heard her perform and asked her to record and tour with them – launching her global career.

“How ironic to go from small clubs in Kansas City to arenas with a British pop group, and how grateful I am for that opportunity,” she says.

“Everyone, including the band, will be thrilled to hear something familiar that has sustained them for years,” Adams says. “We'll share songs to help us celebrate the fact that, for now, we're still here.”

The Night That Changed Her Life

Adams’ big break occurred in the most unexpected of places: Kansas City, Missouri.

In 1985, she happened to perform at a Hyatt Hotel when the members of Tears for Fears stayed there during a world tour.

“I'm told that they enjoyed my performance with my trio and found it so inspiring,” Adams says.

Adams’ performance proved so memorable, in fact, that two years later the band called the hotel and asked for her contact information.

“(Band cofounder Roy Orzibal) said that while on tour, they had had all kinds of electronic equipment and a large band that did not have as much emotion as my trio,” Adams remembers. “He had written a song entitled, ‘Woman In Chains’ and he asked me to bring that same emotion to his song.”

Figuring she had nothing to lose, she agreed.

Adams recorded with Tears for Fears for a full month in 1988, which led to touring with the band across the United State, Europe and South America in 1990.

“It was because of the work that I did on their record that caused me to be signed to the same (recording) company, Polygram-Fontana,” she says. “It gave me integrity and a real boost to my own career.”

Musical Lessons Learned

Adams absorbed a great deal from recording with Tears for Fears — and from the incredible opportunities that followed.

She describes the band members as perfectionists, spending weeks on recording just one or two songs to get the best take, with rolls of analog tape winding through the studio hallways.

“They were the best sounding tracks I had ever heard. They were relentless in getting whatever sound, pronunciation or performance they wanted,” Adams says. “It was the first time that I actually learned to love my voice.”

This jumpstart to her career led to performing with legends like Phil Collins, Michael Bolton and Luther Vandross.

Her favorite memories from performing worldwide include hearing South African audiences singing her songs word for word, she says, and watching audience members in Japan dance in the aisles.

She now considers the Netherlands like a second home, she adds, after performing there often with its celebrated Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw.

Adams always keeps one particular memory at the back of her mind — and will likely reflect on it during post-pandemic shows.

“When a young girl in the Netherlands with a terminal illness came to one of my shows on a gurney because her wish was ‘to see Oleta Adams' show,’ I realized how important music is and what a responsibility it carries,” she says. “It was a sober awakening and one of the most important experiences of my life.”

Tears For Fears have announced they will play an intimate London show at Shepherd’s Bush Empire on Monday, July 4.

Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal will release their first new album as Tears For Fears in 17 years , The Tipping Point , this Friday, February 25. Tickets for what must be one of the smallest gigs the duo have played for years also go on sale on Friday at 10am. Visit the band’s official website for tickets and further information.

“When you’ve known each other as long as we have, and have worked together as long as we have, there’s a bond there that becomes familial. So, it’s different from a friendship,” Smith says of the new reunion. “And it’s different from a marriage. It’s literally like that’s your brother. It’s the kind of bond that you can’t really break. It can fall apart at times. You separate for periods, which I also think is healthy, really. But in the end, we always seem to find each other again.”

Taylor Swift and boyfriend Travis Kelce jetted to Las Vegas over the weekend to support pal Patrick Mahomes before Swift resumes the international leg of her blockbuster Eras Tour.

Dressed in a gorgeous green gown, the pop superstar — who has been on hiatus since March after performing shows in Japan, Australia and Singapore in early 2024 — held hands with the star Chiefs tight end at a gala on the first day of Mahomes’ 15 and the Mahomies Foundation Vegas Golf Classic.

“NBD…. Just T Swift and her man Travis Kelce,” one social media user gushed of the couple, who have been dating since the summer of 2023.

“And they are super adorable together. So down to earth & kind,” the caption continued.

Kelce, 34, helped to amp up the crowd during an auction at the event, revealing his “significant other” Swift, also 34, wanted to offer four tickets to a future Eras Tour show in Miami, Indianapolis or New Orleans when it returns stateside later this year.

“I was just talking to my significant other and we might have one other auction item that wasn’t on the docket. Has anybody heard of the Eras Tour?” Kelce asked the crowd, who responded with cheers and applause.

“… Does that fire anybody up right now?”

Auctioneer Harry Santa revealed in a separate Instagram Story that the tickets sold for $80,000.

Mahomes, who established 15 and the Mahomies Foundation in 2019 to help improve children’s lives, then “started launching signed footballs for $10K each!” according to Santa.

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift were first linked in 2023.

It was an exciting return trip to Sin City, where Mahomes and Kelce’s Chiefs won Super Bowl 2024 in February.

Kansas City defeated the San Francisco 49ers in overtime, 25-22, to claim their third championship in five seasons.

Swift cheered on Kelce from Allegiant Stadium, where they shared a celebratory kiss on the field .

The couple then partied into the night with Mahomes and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, who grew close to Swift this past season.

Swift will head to Europe next month, when the Eras Tour resumes in Paris on May 9.

She and Kelce have been enjoying each other’s company this offseason, which included a PDA-filled getaway to the Bahamas in March and a weekend at Coachella earlier this month.

It’s been speculated Kelce will visit Swift overseas.
