When are the best and worst times to visit Dubai?

Ben Smithson

Although we're in the throes of summer now, it's never too early to plan that winter vacation. When temperatures start to drop and the days become shorter, you might start dreaming of warmer destinations, sunshine and beaches. Dubai is a popular destination for these reasons, especially in the winter months when it can get dark around 4 p.m.

Temperatures, prices and crowds can vary enormously throughout the year in Dubai, so here are our top tips for when to visit and when to avoid the city.

Best times to travel

You can expect consistently pleasant weather between November and March -- daily maximum temperatures will be in the upper-70s, which is warm enough to enjoy the beaches and those amazing luxury hotel pools, as well as getting out to explore the sights without having to constantly duck into air conditioning. Overnight, the temperature drops to the low-60s, which is comfortable for sleeping.

Mid-December to the end of February is peak period, so while the weather is great, Dubai can be really crowded and hotel rates rocket. The popular Atlantis The Palm hotel can be booked for a little as $250 per night during August while prices soar up to $850-plus per night in December. One of our favorite Dubai hotels here at TPG, the Park Hyatt , can be a steal at less than $120 per night in the hottest months but increases to $550 per night around Christmas.

Christmas is obviously a popular time to visit, and January also sees the Dubai Shopping Festival, where tourists flock to the city to enjoy huge discounts on all sorts of items. For instance, you could get 78% off gaming consoles and up to 80% off selected women's fashions at NissNass. So if you are planning to visit in January, make sure you leave some room in the suitcase .

For the best of both worlds, consider mid-November through mid-December as well as the month of March. Temperatures will still be good (though on the warm side), but there will be fewer tourists and prices should be lower. The slightly warmer daily temperatures should be just about perfect for enjoying the sea.

You may also experience some rain during the December to March peak season, as it is technically winter there. But don't expect this to have much impact on your trip -- it only rains on average five days per year in Dubai (compared to the 156 days a year the U.K. sees).

Worst times

The months of June, July and August have searingly hot temperatures in Dubai. Think an average high of 106 degrees Fahrenheit every day, with temperatures not dropping below 86 overnight. Temperatures can even hit 117 degrees Fahrenheit in these months. It's likely to also be quite humid, which can drain your energy even more.

Most tourists will find these temperatures far too hot to even step outside (let alone lie by the pool or beach), which may be a big reason you are visiting. If you are willing to stay inside the entire time, you can expect cheap accommodation because there are so few other tourists.

The month of Ramadan, which changes dates each year but will be from April 12 in 2021, is a period where eating, drinking and smoking in public is banned during daylight. This means many businesses close during these times, which can be difficult for tourists who are not observing Ramadan themselves.

Bottom line

Dubai has much to offer in terms of hotels, beaches, shopping and night life. Plan carefully and you can avoid astronomical costs and maybe stay in the hotel of your dreams for a fraction of what you thought.

Best Times To Visit Dubai

The best time to visit Dubai is from November to March. Weather-wise, Dubai really only experiences two seasons: hot and hotter. During the winter months, the city sees blue skies and primo beach weather. However, this is also peak tourist season, so expect plenty of company on  Jumeirah Beach . You can escape the crowds if you visit during the summer months, but be prepared for triple-digit temps and high humidity levels

With its location in the Arabian desert, it's no surprise that Dubai has only two settings on its thermostat: warm and hot. In the months when much of the Northern Hemisphere is shivering, Dubai makes a great getaway for winter sun, but in the sweltering summer months, anyone who is brave enough to stay in the city is hustling between air-conditioned patches of cool.

Here's a month-by-month guide for the best time to visit Dubai .

Editor's note: During COVID-19, please check the latest travel restrictions before planning any trip and always follow government health advice. Events may be subject to change.

High season: November to April

Best time for outdoor urban adventures

Visitors on the viewing platform at the Burj Khalifa, Dubai

When much of the Northern Hemisphere is bundled up in hats and winter coats, Dubai is blossoming. Moderate temperatures bring in major festivals and events, and al fresco dining lasts late into the night. Accommodation rates are high. Outdoor activities and excursions into the desert are best done at this time of year.

Shoulder season: May, September and October

Best time for quiet beach holidays

Boat on a canal through Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai

The days are hot, and the nights are balmy. Because the winter crowds have disappeared, these months are good for quiet beach holidays, with sea temperatures averaging 82°F (28°C). Pleasant temperatures also mean it's still possible to camp in the desert.

Low season: June to August

Best time for budget travelers and indoor shopping

Visitors at the Aquarium in Dubai Mall

During the hot and humid summer months, travelers on a budget can more easily book into Dubai five-star's accommodations thanks to steep discounts. Life moves indoors, and summer sales lure shoppers into the air-conditioned malls.

Month-by-month breakdown

Here's a monthly guide to what you can expect through the year in Dubai. All events are subject to change.

January is a blissful month in Dubai. When much of the rest of the world is suffering post-festive season doldrums and icy conditions, the daytime temperatures in Dubai average a pleasant 77°F (25°C). January is still Dubai's coldest month, so bring a light jacket for evenings out. Key events:  Dubai Shopping Festival, Dubai Marathon

February in Dubai is another warm and winning month, with sun-kissed weather and plenty going on, including many outdoor events. Pack a pashmina for al fresco evenings. Key events:  Dubai Jazz Festival, Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, Dubai Food Festival

Dubai's weather in March might be heating up a fraction, but it is still near perfect in this action-packed month, with warm seas for swimming and enough of space on the sand. Key events:  Festival of Literature, Art Dubai, Sikka Art Fair, Taste of Dubai, Dubai World Cup, Middle East Film and Comic Con, Burj Al Arab Swim, Dubai International Boat Show

The spring weather in Dubai is still warm rather than blistering, but school breaks mean you’ll see more tourists around the Easter holiday. April is a rollicking good month for beach fans and fashionistas. Key events: Fashion Forward, Al Marmoom Heritage Festival, start of Ramadan in 2021 and 2022

In May, temperatures in Dubai can nudge 95°C (35°C) or more, and most visitors have cleared out in anticipation of the summer heat wave. Beach clubs and indoor shopping centers provide welcome relief during the day.  Key events: Al Gaffal Dhow Race

A woman walks through Al Fahidi Historic District in Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Summer has arrived, and it's already blisteringly hot outside. Life shifts indoors to air-conditioned malls and museums, and swimming in the sea or a hotel pool feels like sitting in a bathtub. Key events: Dubai Summer Surprises

July is the hottest month of the year in Dubai, and it's a scorcher, with average temperatures of 105°F (40°C). Flight prices and hotel rates drop significantly. You can really cool down at the city's snowy indoor slope, Ski Dubai . Key events:  Eid Al Adha in 2021 and 2022

Dubai is still roasting hot in August. Tourist attractions are generally empty, especially toward the end of the month when schools start up again.

View of Burj Al Arab hotel, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Dubai's searing summer temperatures are slowly starting to drop, and it's a good time to be by the sea. Excursions into the desert are possible again, and the balmy evenings lend themselves to stargazing among the sands.

Temperatures in Dubai have started to cool nicely, although you can still expect humidity and toasty warm days in early October. The cooler nights are lovely for a stroll along the Dubai Canal and for dining outdoors. Key events:  Diwali in 2022

By November, the summer heat has subsided, and visitors from colder climes are returning to enjoy the balmy temperatures. Much of life moves outdoors. Key events: Diwali in 2021, Dubai Rugby Sevens, DP World Tour Championship, Global Village

The end of the year marks the beginning of the peak tourist season for a reason: the sea is still warm, the air is crisp and clear, and evenings are warm enough for outdoor dining. Key events:  UAE National Day, Dubai International Film Festival

The Best Times to Visit Dubai for Beautiful Weather, Lower Prices, and Smaller Crowds

These are the best times to go to Dubai, according to local experts.

Dubai is one of the most popular travel destinations in the Middle East, known for its contrasting mix of cutting-edge architecture and time-honored traditions. The best — and most popular — time to visit Dubai is from November to March when temperatures are pleasant and outdoor activities, like visiting bustling souks and cafes, abound.

Summer months get a bad rap because of the extreme heat, but Kelvin Cheung, chef and partner at restaurant and cocktail bar Jun’s, finds joy in all seasons. “During the winter months, my son and I bundle up and build sandcastles in the sun, while in the summer we jump in Jacuzzi-temperature waters in the early morning or late evenings, searching for sea creatures.”

The shoulder season is a much-overlooked time to visit Dubai, offering milder temperatures (in the 80s and 90s) and less-crowded streets. Founder and editor of " Near + Far ," an independent travel magazine for travelers to the Middle East, Isabella Sullivan says, “I genuinely believe Dubai is a year-round destination. Of course, winter has the best weather, but I love the heat, and the shoulder months are my favorites, as you don’t need a jacket at night.”

  • High Season: November to March
  • Shoulder Seasons: April to May and September to October
  • Low Season: June to August

These are the best times to visit Dubai for the best weather, fewer crowds, and more.

Best Times to Visit Dubai for Smaller Crowds

Many visitors fall in love with Dubai because of the people — the city is home to a diverse group of residents and attracts tourists from all over the world. That said, during the high season, Dubai can get so crowded that it becomes difficult to get tickets to attractions or score reservations at the hottest restaurants. If you’re looking to avoid the crowds, your best bet is to visit anytime from April to October. This includes the shoulder and low seasons, when residents often leave the country and tourists are few and far between. Plus, fewer crowds coincide with more favorable accommodation rates. It’s also the perfect time to see the sunset at the Burj Khalifa, get a photo at the Dubai Frame without throngs of people in the background, or finally nab tickets to the Museum of the Future.

Best Times to Visit Dubai for Good Weather

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the best time to visit Dubai for good weather coincides with a high number of tourists. November through February is a beautiful time to visit, as temperatures range from the low 60s to the high 70s. “In the winter, the weather is so fantastic,” Sullivan says. It's also a perfect time to experience the city’s diverse topography. “With consistently beautiful weather in winter, you can be at the beach, in one of the world’s most dynamic, futuristic cities, and then into the rolling, peaceful dunes of the desert all in a matter of hours,” adds Sullivan. The weather during these months usually allows for T-shirts during the day and long sleeves or a light jacket in the evening.

Best Times to Visit Dubai for Lower Prices

The summer months of June, July, and August — when many people have fled the country because of the heat — are when you will likely score the best deals on Dubai hotels. It’s also the perfect time to explore the plethora of indoor attractions Dubai has to offer, from numerous aquariums and museums to the sprawling Mohammed bin Rashid Library. “I think only recently has summer evolved into a season that’s worth visiting. You can get a great hotel deal during summer, and sitting by the pool or swimming outside is entirely possible," Sullivan says. "The city isn’t crowded, so you can get a booking at the most coveted restaurants or beach clubs. I think summer in Dubai will only get more attractive as the years go on."

Best Times to Visit Dubai for Festivals and Events

Festivals and events occur throughout the year — in hot, warm, and mild temperatures — so the best time to visit depends on your specific interests. Sullivan says she admires that Dubai goes out of its way to create things for people to do. One example is Dubai Summer Surprises, a city-wide shopping festival offering a lineup of steep discounts and special offers, plus concerts and other events, during the low season.

Many enjoy visiting in December for one of the city's most-anticipated holidays, UAE National Day, when Emiratis celebrate the anniversary of the country's independence with fireworks, cultural performances, falconry displays, and more. Others love being in the city during Ramadan, when Dean Hayter, travel product manager at Origin, says the city comes alive. "There is such a wonderful sense of festivity. The buildings are covered in lights, there are so many great locations to meet with friends for Iftar, the meal that breaks the fast; it's always my favorite time to be in Dubai.”

Worst Times to Visit Dubai

Unlike most places in the world, June to August are the worst months to visit the city, as temperatures are almost unbearably hot with highs that can reach over 105 degrees Fahrenheit and lows of only around 90 degrees. In addition to the scorching heat, high humidity plays a role in how hot and sweaty you’ll feel. Even though this may be the most uncomfortable time to visit, Hayter says there are plenty of ways to escape high temperatures. "I spent every summer in Dubai, and you can still have a fantastic experience if you know where to go and how to avoid the heat. Luckily, everywhere has AC (even the bus stops)."

Sullivan makes a salient point that Dubai works hard to accommodate its residents and visitors during this much-dreaded season. “They know summer is hot, and people often leave to go elsewhere, so they build indoor sports centers and facilities and run summer-long initiatives,” says Sullivan. For example, you can ski in the middle of summer at Ski Dubai inside the Mall of the Emirates or ice skate year-round at the Dubai Mall. And you probably won't get hot while exploring the sunken wonders of Deep Dive Dubai , the deepest indoor diving pool in the world.

The best time to visit Dubai is from October through April, due to the cooler temperatures compared to during the summer months. You’ll find plenty of festivals to attend, beautiful beaches to escape to at that time of year, and hotel deals during this peak travel time.

No matter when you decide to go, use this guide to help plan your trip to Dubai to experience the commanding skyscrapers, superlative shopping malls , and unique cultural experiences.

Weather in Dubai

While many people have the time to travel during the summer months, Dubai can be a challenge for those who aren’t used to extreme temperatures. In the summer months from the last week of April to early October, the weather can be unbearably hot. Temperatures can range on average from 100 degrees F to 106 degrees F during this time.

Fall is a prime time to visit Dubai between September through November, as temperatures become more bearable with highs in the low 80s to high 90s.

Popular Events and Festivals

Dubai is home to many festivals and events throughout the year. Emirati culture is firm on bringing people together, especially families, during religious holidays such as Ramadan and EID. There are also plenty of festivals for tourists to enjoy throughout the year.

During the winter, there are a great deal of festivals and events such as Dubai’s National Day and other holidays to enjoy. It’s prime travel time to Dubai from locals in other GCC regions and from further abroad. Therefore, it’s best to get a head start on booking accommodations early. There are hundreds of hotel options in Dubai, but it’s best to book months in advance to get the best deals. See a detailed list of events from month to month below.

Tourist Attractions in Dubai

Most popular tourist attractions are available year-round in Dubai such as the souks (outdoor shopping markets), the Burj Khalifa, and the Dubai Mall. Depending on the time of year, certain attractions aren’t ideal, such as a desert safari, where you go dune bashing, or even Dinner in the Sky . The extreme summer temps from June through August make it impossible to enjoy certain outdoor activities. Dinner in the Sky, for example, is not available during the summer months because no one wants to sit close to the sun when it’s 100 degrees F outside.

Also, take into consideration holy months and holidays such as Ramadan. Many things that you would be able to do throughout the year will not be available during the day, such as eating in public at most restaurants since locals fast during the day. Certain upscale places will make an exception for tourists, such as Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen, located in Atlantis the Palm , which opts to have black-out curtains so outsiders can’t see guests eating during the day for Ramadan.

January is the tail-end of peak season to travel in Dubai due to the mild temperatures, and it is also the cheapest time to visit Dubai. Tourists can enjoy sunny days and bright blue skies during high season.

Events to check out:

  • January is ideal for shoppers, as the Dubai Shopping Festival involves most shops and malls in the city.
  • The charitable event, Dubai Marathon, also runs in January, where participants pay a small fee to partake.

Still high season in Dubai, February brings with it fairly cooler evenings and a bit of rain. It’s an ideal time to enjoy outdoor activities such as desert safaris and relaxing by the beach.

  • The Dubai International Jazz Festival is an annual event that is held at Dubai Media City. It has featured jazz and pop icons such as Mariah Carey, John Legend, and Toto.

In March, temperatures begin to climb higher, but it is still reasonable enough to enjoy the many activities and events that Dubai offers. The average temperature in March is around 83 degrees F with moderate amounts of rain and wind.

  • One of the most prominent art shows is hosted in March, the annual Art Dubai festival. Art lovers from near and far flock to the city to enjoy innovative artwork from local talents, as well as displays at contemporary art galleries around the city.
  • Tourists can enjoy a bit of the luxurious life at the Dubai World Cup . It is held at the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse and features the world's best horses, trainers, and jockeys.
  • The Dubai Food Festival starts this month and extends into April, as it hosts a massive celebration of gastronomic delights from around the world. With offers like dining deals during Dubai restaurant week, masterclasses, and the culinary event Hidden Gems throughout the city, foodies will be in their element.

On the other end of peak season in Dubai is in April, when crowds start to lessen out but hotel prices are still relatively high. The days start to get longer with average sunlight of 10 hours and temperatures in the low 90s.

  • Held at the Dubai World Trade Center, The Middle East Film and Comic Con (MEFCC) plays host to one of the biggest pop culture festivals in the world. It features music, celebrities, and art exhibitions from all over the globe to celebrate film and gaming entertainment.
  • In late April is the Children’s International Film Festival , which promotes young people in the filmmaking industry. Award-winning filmmakers have screened their films at the event.

May is the start of shoulder-season, just before the extreme summer heat rolls in but still a pretty warm time to visit Dubai. It is possible to find more hotel bargains during this time. It’s a great time to enjoy the beaches, which are less crowded than during high-season.

Event to check out: The annual Al Gaffal Dhow Race occurs in early May. The race involves nearly 100 traditional wooden boats and draws nearly 3,000 participants who sail the glistening waters of the Arabian Gulf.

June is typically marked by Ramadan and warm summer temps in Dubai. Tourists will be immersed in Muslim culture during Ramadan when locals fast during the day and break fast at sunset. Be prepared for afternoon closures at shops and not being able to eat or drink in public, unless a restaurant has blocked off views to the public.

Event to check out: When Ramadan falls in June, the Ramadan Night Market takes place in this month for 10 days. It features a range of brands in some 300 outlets with deals and sales galore. Dates vary by year so check the calendar before booking your trip.

The month of July brings about more hot temperatures and steamy, sunny days. The average temperature in July is around 105 degrees F with about 11 hours of daylight.

Event to check out: Dubai Summer Surprises is a month-long celebration where the city offers reduced hotel rates, discounts on shopping, and fun family-friendly activities for locals and tourists alike to enjoy during the hot summer months.

Extreme heat persists and the humidity calls for hot, sticky experiences outside. August is the hottest month of the year, bringing about temps well into the 110 to 115 degree F range on average.

Event to check out: An indoor movie event is a welcomed reprieve to the hot temps in Dubai in August. Check out the South Indian International Movie Awards , which features the biggest names in South Indian entertainment.

September is the start of the fall season when temperatures in Dubai begin their descent to pleasant levels for doing outdoor activities. Fall brings about less humidity, but still long sunny days.

As one of the more pleasant times to enjoy outdoor activities in Dubai, October has temperatures averaging in the mid-90s during the day and lows in the 70s in the evenings.

Event to check out:

October is the start of the camel racing season in Dubai. It draws crowds of Emiratis and tourists alike, usually being held on Friday and Saturday mornings at Al Marmoom Camel Race Track.

GITEX Week is a technology event featuring ground-breaking events displaying the latest in tech by startups and pioneering companies.

Cooler temperatures in the 80s and minimal to no rainfall awaits visitors to Dubai in the month of November.

Event to check out: Located in the Dubai Design District (D3), is the annual Dubai Design Week . It hosts local creatives to showcase designer exhibitions and installations.

December is one of the most popular months to visit Dubai with stunning winter temperatures in the 70s. It’s the holiday season for locals and visitors from around the globe.

  • UAE's National Day is celebrated in December. Enjoy an array of activities to mark Dubai’s independence like fireworks displays, concerts, and gatherings throughout the city.
  • Sponsored by Emirates Airlines, the annual Dubai Rugby Sevens tournament brings crowds from around the globe to root for their favorite rugby teams.

October to April are the best months to visit Dubai, when the weather is warm but not unbearably hot. December is one of the best months to visit Dubai, but it's also crowded.

Summer is long and sweltering in Dubai, with frequent triple-digit temperatures from May to September. The days are so hot that it's hard to do much of anything.

Dubai is very dry year-round and rarely sees rains. The little rainfall that does occur happens almost exclusively in the milder winter months.

Best Time to Visit Dubai – MUST READ • 2024 Guide

Dubai is a glittering oasis surrounded by desert, on the shores of the Persian Gulf. A city of opulence and excess, where skyscrapers reach incredible heights and man-made archipelagos shaped like palm trees fan into the ocean. Beneath the glitz and extravagance, lies a more traditional heart and historical sites to explore.

Whether you’re planning on hitting the malls for an epic shopping spree, heading out into the desert for an adventure or simply lazing on the beach soaking up the sun, Dubai has something for every type of traveller.

Choosing the best time to visit Dubai will depend heavily on what you’re planning to do there. You may also be influenced by cost, climate, and crowds, as these can heavily impact the experience you’re likely to have.

We’ve created this guide to help you figure out which time of year is the best time for your trip to Dubai – to create the experience you’ve always dreamed of.

Best Time To Visit Dubai – April and May, September and October

Best Time To Go for a Desert Tour – November to March

Best Time To Go To Abu Dhabi  – December to March

Best Time For Sightseeing – April and May, September and October

Cheapest Time To Visit Dubai – June to August

When is the Best Time to Go to Dubai?

When to visit dubai – a month by month breakdown, faq about the best time to visit dubai, final thoughts on the best time to visit dubai.

Planning a trip to Dubai ? It is a great destination at any time of the year, but if you’re heading there to experience something specific, then choosing the best time to go to Dubai is extremely important.

While most destinations experience their high season in the peak of the summer, Dubai is a little different. The summer months (June to August) are baking hot and humid, and being outdoors is unbearable. With temperatures reaching the 40s, hitting Dubai’s beaches or heading into the desert is simply not an option.

Because of the limited outdoor pursuits on offer during summer, rates are at their lowest, so if you’re looking for the cheapest time to visit, then go in the summer. This is the best time to visit Dubai if you plan to hit the shopping malls – crowds of tourists are at their lowest and there are plenty of great sales to check out.

Another consideration during the summer is the month-long period of Ramadan which usually falls during this time. During the holy month, it’s forbidden to eat, drink or smoke in public during daylight hours and many restaurants are closed.

when to visit Dubai

If you’re hoping to sample Dubai’s nightlife, you may want to avoid visiting during Ramadan. The dates for Ramadan change annually, so make sure to check before making your plans.

Winter (November to April) in Dubai is the high season. The weather is sunny and warm, and perfect for being outdoors. Occasional rain can be expected, and the early mornings and nights can be cool, so pack a light jacket. If a desert safari is on your list, this is a great time to head out into the dunes.

As one would expect from high season, it’s the most expensive time in Dubai and tourist crowds are at their peak. There are also many events and festivals at this time that attract visitors, so if you’re planning to visit then, book well in advance – check out our guide to Dubai accommodation for ideas.

Relaxed beach holidays are best enjoyed over the shoulder seasons of spring and autumn. May and September to October offer mild weather conditions, warm sea temperatures, and crowd-free conditions. Prices on hotel rooms are also more reasonable at this time.

You can enjoy most of the same wintertime outdoor activities at significantly lower costs and with fewer other tourists.

When it comes to Dubai vs Qatar , you might be interested to know whilst similar, the weather is actually slightly different in each place.

Best Time to Go for a Desert Tour

Desert tours are one of Dubai’s essential itinerary stops Because these trips are heavily weather dependant, it’s best to plan your trip for the winter months (November to March) when temperatures are much milder than in the scorching summers.

This does mean you’ll be visiting Dubai during the peak season, so you’ll be among large crowds of tourists and will be paying peak season rates for flights and accommodation.

If you’re planning on camping in the desert, then these times of the year can get quite chilly in the early morning and evening. There’s also a higher chance of rain – usually only brief showers, so make sure to pack something warm just in case (check out our Dubai packing list for more inspiration).

It is possible to head into the desert in the spring (April and May) and autumn (September and October). It’s likely to be more affordable at this time and much less crowded, if a little hotter.

Desert tours usually take around three hours and can be enjoyed in the morning or the late afternoon. Both offer a unique experience, with the morning tours being more tranquil and late afternoons offering blazing desert sunsets.

Because the days can warm up fairly quickly, this can impact the amount of time you have to enjoy activities on a morning trip, while the afternoon offers a more leisurely experience.

Best Time to Go to Abu Dhabi

If you have time, you can take a trip from Dubai to Abu Dhabi by taking the direct train.

Abu Dhabi is the thriving capital of the United Arab Emirates. Offering visitors a range of experiences from desert adventures, world-class shopping, majestic architecture and magnificent natural landscapes, this diverse city offers a little something for everyone.

Choosing the best time to visit Abu Dhabi will depend on what you’d like to experience.

For the best weather, plan your visit over the winter months (December to March) when it’s not too hot or too humid. Because of this very pleasant weather, it’s a popular time to visit Abu Dhabi. This means you’ll spend more on accommodation at this time, and experience larger crowds of tourists at main attractions.

abu dhabi uae

Between June and August, you’ll experience much quieter conditions in the city and much cheaper hotel rates. The weather during the summer is extremely hot and very humid, making it almost unbearable and raising safety concerns to be outdoors for more than just a few minutes at a time, so sightseeing options may be limited to those that offer air conditioning.

The shoulder seasons offer a great balance between the fantastic weather of peak season and the great prices of low seasons. April to May and September to October offer pleasant weather conditions, fewer crowds, and lower hotel rates.

Visiting Dubai During Ramadan

Ramadan is a holy month for all Muslims when they abstain from eating and drinking between sunrise and sunset. It’s a solemn time of self-reflection, purification, and closeness with Allah.

As a visitor to Dubai during this time, it’s important to show respect for the rules and customs, and adhere to any restrictions in place.

For example, it is prohibited to eat, drink and smoke in public. While some restaurants and cafes will still operate, walking around eating or drinking is not acceptable and can carry a fine. If you must sip on water, it’s best to do so discreetly out of respect to those fasting.

Money saving Tips Dubai

Because this is a holy month, Muslims abstain from not just food, but most revelry and even sex. Be mindful of how you’re dressed – nothing too revealing or figure-hugging. Public displays of affection – kissing, hugging, holding hands with your partners – should be avoided as should playing loud music, shouting or swearing.

If you’re hoping to enjoy some of the city’s nightlife, you’ll find things very much subdued to other times of the year. Tourist attractions and stores, while still operating, will adjust their operating hours, and certain mosques that usually offer tours to tourists may adjust their schedules.

Most tourists are understandably nervous about visiting Dubai during Ramadan, but as long as you are respectful of the rules, there’s no reason you can’t still have an incredible time. And you’ll benefit from lovely low season rates and crowd-free conditions.

Best Time for Sightseeing in Dubai

The ideal time for sightseeing in Dubai is when the weather is not too hot. The winter months (November to February) offer the ideal climate for being outdoors. It’s warm and mild, with an occasional chance of rain.

However, this is also peak season, so will likely involve increased pricing on accommodation and crowded sightseeing conditions.

The summer months are the worst time for sightseeing as it’s unbearably hot and humid, and being outdoors for even a few minutes is unpleasant. Activities at this time of year are reserved for those attractions and tourist spots with air conditioning.

The best time to visit Dubai for sightseeing that strikes a good balance between crowds, climate and costs, is during the shoulder seasons of spring and autumn. Between April and May, and September and October, you can enjoy the costs and crowd-free conditions of the low season with the benefits of peak season weather – warm and mild.

Whenever you choose to visit, it’s always better to get your sightseeing done earlier in the day before attractions get too busy.

Cheapest Time to Go to Dubai

The low season is the cheapest time to visit any destination. In Dubai, that means the summer months between May and August. This is when the weather is simply too hot to venture out of doors, and options for sightseeing are limited to those attractions that offer air conditioning.

The holy month of Ramadan also falls over the summer months. This leads many tourists to avoid travelling to Dubai, resulting in less people for sightseeing and some really great offers on Dubai hostel and hotel stays.

Busiest Time to Visit Dubai

Dubai welcomes tourists all year round but because of the desert climate, certain seasons are not good for sightseeing at all, while others are better for hitting the beach.

Dubai’s busiest season is the winter period between November and February. At this time, the weather is much milder than during the blistering summer months, and outdoor sightseeing is much more comfortable.

Not only is this the busiest time to visit Dubai, but because of this increased demand, it’s also the most expensive and most crowded time to visit the city. Of course, if you do want to visit Dubai at this time, you can mitigate the costs slightly by booking well in advance.

Weather in Dubai

Dubai is blessed with a desert climate, which means there are two very distinct seasons – winter and summer. Winter is hot and sunny, while summer is sweltering and humid.

Summer generally begins in April and ends in early October. Hot winds and high humidity make the average maximum temperatures of around 38°C feel significantly hotter. There’s little chance of rain but the occasional dust storm can be expected.

Dubai

During the summer, being outdoors for even just a few minutes is unpleasant and outdoor pursuits take a backseat to any air conditioned activities.

Conversely, the winter months between October and March offer warm weather in Dubai but not so hot as to be unbearable. This is the best time to visit Dubai for outdoor activities, like going to the beach and desert safaris, although precipitation is more likely.

Most of the precipitation in Dubai falls over January and February, occasionally in the form of short thunderstorms. On average, daytime highs are around 22 °C. Mornings and evenings can be cool, dropping to around 12 °C.

Festivals in Dubai

Dubai is a modern metropolis that hosts some of the world’s top sporting events, as well as traditional celebrations and festivals, and premier shopping experiences.

Dubai is a great year-round destination, if you haven’t yet settled on the best time to visit Dubai that ticks all of your boxes, we’ve put together this month-by-month guide to help. At a glance, you’ll be able to see exactly what each month offers in terms of weather, prices, and tourist volumes.

Are taxis safe in Dubai

January in Dubai

January offers the lowest temperatures that Dubai experiences, with average highs reaching the low-to-mid 20s. It’s mostly warm and sunny but the occasional rain shower is not unheard of.

Unlike other destinations that have their peak season in summer, winter is Dubai’s busiest time, so you’re likely to be among large crowds of other tourists and pay elevated pricing for accommodation at this time.

February in Dubai

February sees temperatures increasing, with average highs consistently in the mid-20s, and sometimes closer to the 30s. There’s more likelihood of rainfall as the month progresses.

The sunny skies and warm temperatures are ideal for outdoor adventures and beach days. The good weather also means there are more events and festivals at this time.

For these reasons, it’s still peak season, and you can expect the beaches to be extremely busy. Large crowds of tourists are common at popular attractions, causing increased wait times and queues. Prices on airfare and accommodation are still high.

March in Dubai

Warm seas for swimming and hot days make this the ideal time for a beach holiday in Dubai. Temperatures increase steadily, with average maximums in the high 20s, and the chance for rain decreases.

As things get hotter, a word of caution around revealing clothing. If you’re heading to the city or a mosque, modest attire is recommended – shoulders and knees should be covered.

It can still be fairly busy with tourists and hotel prices are still inflated.

April in Dubai

Expect long, hot days during April with a low chance of rain. On average, daytime temperatures hover in the low 30s but can get much hotter. Being outdoors starts to become less appealing as the temperatures climb.

Sea temperatures are lovely for swimming at this time, but if you’re hitting the beaches, remember to always wear good sunscreen as the sun can be brutal.

School holidays around the Easter holidays mean an increase in tourist numbers and crowds.

May in Dubai

Most tourists have left and the city feels more pleasant to explore without the crowds. Hotel prices are coming down for the low season and you’re likely to pick up a great deal.

The summer heat arrives and maximum temperatures average in the high 30s. It’s difficult to be outdoors for extended periods, so the beaches are fairly empty. Most people seek out relief in air conditioned venues.

In response to the heat, it’s tempting to wear shorter and more revealing clothing but it’s recommended that, out of respect for local culture, women dress modestly. This is especially important if you’re visiting during the holy month of Ramadan.

June in Dubai

The sweltering heat of summer continues to intensify, and with 12 hours of daylight, it doesn’t cool down much in the evening either.

Average maximum temperatures are in the mid-30s and there’s very little chance of rain. You’ll most likely want to spend as little time as possible outdoors, seeking out the air conditioning of malls and hotels instead.

The city is still pleasantly free of the large crowds of winter tourists, and hotels offer some really great deals.

dubai atlantis

July in Dubai

The hottest month of the year is here, bringing average high temperatures of 40°C. It’s even too hot for lying by the hotel pool which feels more like bathwater and does little to cool you down. Most activities take place indoors in the blissful air conditioning.

This is the cheapest time to visit Dubai, with hotel and flight prices dropping even further. Tourist attractions are mostly empty and there are few other tourists around.

August in Dubai

August’s weather is much like July’s – hot and hot. Being outdoors for even just a few minutes is unbearable.

The harsh weather keeps many tourists away and leads hotels to offer exceptional value deals to attract visitors. While it is hot and unpleasant outdoors, the city is well equipped for the heat and there’s still plenty to see and do indoors.

September in Dubai

The oppressive heat finally starts to dissipate, with average maximums dropping into the high 30s. It’s possible to hit the beaches again in the mornings and late afternoons when it isn’t as hot, especially towards the end of the month.

There are still few tourists around so sightseeing is pleasant and relaxed, and hotel prices are still attractive.

October in Dubai

Temperatures are coming down and locals and tourists alike are venturing outside more. Average daytime temperatures are in the mid-30s and there’s very little chance of rain.

Tourist numbers start to increase again, but are still not at their peak, meaning sightseeing is still relatively crowd-free.

November in Dubai

Average daytime highs are in the mid-20s and it’s much more pleasant to head outdoors. It’s mostly sunny and rainfall is rare.

While the rest of the northern hemisphere is bundling up against the cold, visitors to Dubai can still spend lazy days on the beach. Because of this lovely weather, many visitors head to Dubai for relief from the cold.

It’s now peak season, so in addition to increased tourist numbers, hotel prices are significantly higher.

December in Dubai

The pleasant weather continues, offering average highs in the low-to-mid 20s. It’s more likely to rain this month, but that said, rainfall is still relatively low. Mornings and evenings can get chilly, so make sure to pack a light jacket.

Tourist numbers steadily increase causing hotel prices to reach their peak. Having said that, it’s one of the top places around the world to spend December , so maybe that’s why!

Visiting Dubai During Ramadan?

Visitors tend to shy away from visiting Dubai over the holy month of Ramadan. While it’s true there are certain restriction and observances, it’s still a great time to visit, and offers a wonderful opportunity to experience Islamic traditions.

When is the Rainy Season in Dubai?

Dubai is not known for being a rainy destination. The city receives most of its precipitation in the winter months between November and March, and this usually falls in brief showers and occasional thunderstorms.

When is the Coldest Month in Dubai?

Cold is not a word that one would often associate with Dubai. The coldest month of the year is January which sees temperatures averaging around 20°C, sometimes reaching the mid-20s.

When is the Worst Time to Visit Dubai?

This all depends on what kind of experience you’re after. Generally, June, July and August are oppressively hot, so being outdoors is out of the question. That said, it’s the most affordable time of year to visit.  The winter months, while offering pleasantly mild weather, are the worst time to visit in terms of crowds – it’s the busiest time, and also the most expensive time to visit.

Don’t Forget your Dubai Travel Insurance

ALWAYS sort out your backpacker insurance before your trip. There’s plenty to choose from in that department, but a good place to start is Safety Wing .

Whether you choose to visit Dubai in the peak season when the weather is milder or during the summer heat when prices are at their lowest, you’ll not leave this thriving metropolis disappointed.

While temperatures in the low season are extreme, remember that there’s still loads to experience without venturing outdoors. You’ll also benefit from some attractive deals on flights and accommodation.

If you prefer a peak season visit, remember to plan and book your trip well in advance to avoid disappointment and to try to keep costs down slightly. Peak season also usually comes with stricter booking and cancellation terms.

Whenever you decided to visit, the dazzling city of Dubai has many layers just begging to be explored. Dubai really is so much more than just a stop-over destination.

I disagree with you regarding June’s weather. I have been living in the UAE ever since I was born in Abu Dhabi in June of 1995. My experience in June’s weather in both cities, Dubai and Abu Dhabi is not so bad especially around early to mid-June. To tell you the truth, June is the best summer month to visit the UAE compared to July and August, because in June, although outdoor temperatures generally soar out to 45+ degrees Celsius outside during the day and lows of not less than 30 degrees celsius, but at least on some days in June, especially early June, you would still get some chance of pleasant weather similar to the shoulder monts April, May, September (even better than September), and October with highs of 37 degrees Celsius and lows of 26 degrees Celsius during the night. So no, I don’t think June is the worst month to visit Dubai or Abu Dhabi, in fact, June is the best month to visit Dubai and Abu Dhabi for Thrilling Rides and Activities, such as Skydiving in Dubai or visiting Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi.

At least in June weather is pretty much similar to September’s weather, you get a nice and crystal clear weather, even if it gets hot at 50 degrees, the night-time temperature and the mornings of June is even cooler than in September, as it is similar to May, hovering at around 25~28 degrees celsius, making it pleasant. Standing under the sun of course it feels boiling hot, but under the shade, it is breezy nice. Sometimes you sweat because of the increasing humidity as you approach July. Nevertheless, June is not a bad month to visit Dubai, in fact it is of the best months to visit the beach in early mornings or watch the beautiful sunset during the evenings at the beach. Average Sea temperature in June is 30 C which is cooler when compared to September of 32 degrees celsius, making June a better month for visiting the beach or going for a dip in the swimming pool. Hotels are at the cheapest levels in June, so you would get a great deal at this time. For best weather conditions in June, visit Dubai in the first two weeks of June or before the Summer Solstice (before June 21), as afterwards, the weather gets worse as you approach July. Between June 1st and June 21st would be a great time visiting Dubai, and Abu Dhabi.

July and August is by far I would say they are definitely the worst two months in Dubai, temperatures are sizzling hot, and even in the evenings and mornings, the temperatures barely hits below 30 degrees. Trust me, the weather conditions in July and August is far worse than June’s weather, especially the weather over there is far too humid, even standing in the shade feels like you are in the oven, and visiting the beach won’t give you much relief, as the Average Sea temperature is over 32 degees celsius, the maximum temperature the sea can cool you off during this intense heat, sometimes it goes up to 35~37 degrees celsius, making it an unpleasant time to visit the beach. Hotels are not so cheap either, since most of these hotels you can find are fully booked or reserved. Better avoid traveling to Dubai in July and August.

If you come from a climate similar to Dubai, or hotter, I think June will be a perfect month to visit. Otherwise, if you come for a cooler climate and cannot bear temperatures above 40 degrees celsius, then better avoid traveling in this period (May to September).

Although June is a summer month, I don’t consider it a low season. I would rather consider it part of the shoulder season instead, especially when it comes to the first 10 days of June, in fact, I would say the Best Time To Visit Dubai – April to June, September and October, and Best Time For Sightseeing – April to June, September and October

  • Museum of the Future (book well in advance!).
  • Luxury Yacht Tour .
  • Abu Dhabi Day Trip .

What to know when traveling to Dubai - practical information and helpful travel tips for visiting Dubai UAE

Here are our top travel tips for visiting Dubai:

1. Avoid Traveling in Summer

Dubai is known for its scorching temperatures, especially during the summer months. To give you an idea, average daytime temperatures during June, July, and August are well over 40°C (104°F). Even in April or November, Dubai temperatures usually still exceed 30°C (86°F).

The best time to visit Dubai is during the winter months – between December and February. The daytime temperatures at this time of the year are usually around 25°C (77°F). So it’s still warm enough to enjoy beaches, pools, and waterparks, but the temperatures are also pleasant for sightseeing and outdoor activities.

Good to know: Winter is also the peak tourist season in Dubai. So expect accommodation prices to be higher and more crowds at the main attractions. However, with some advance planning and preparation, you can still have a very enjoyable visit, more than in the summer.

The shoulder season – the months of March-April or October-November – can be a good time to visit Dubai as well. If you don’t mind temperatures of around 30-35°C (86-95°F), you can take advantage of somewhat lower prices and fewer crowds than in the winter.

In addition, you may want to check when Ramadan is. During this month, most Muslims do not eat from sunrise to sunset, so many restaurants will be closed during the day. This may might impact your experience, depending on the places you visit.

TIP: No matter when you visit Dubai, be prepared for the heat by wearing lightweight, breathable clothing, using sun protection, and staying hydrated. Plan outdoor activities for the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the peak heat.

2. Book Attraction Tickets in Advance

One of the biggest mistakes you can make when planning a trip to Dubai is not to plan/book attraction tickets in advance.

Booking in advance means more time slots to choose from, better prices, and less time wasted queuing.  After all, you want to make the most of your trip to Dubai and not spend all your precious time standing in lines.

Good to know: Tickets to many popular attractions in Dubai are often sold out at least a few days in advance. Furthermore, many tickets are cheaper if booked online. In addition, some attraction tickets, e.g. Atlantis Aquaventure , cost less if you book at least a week before your visit.

For some places, not reserving in advance means that you won’t be able to visit at all.  For example, the Museum of the Future is so popular that all tickets are usually sold out at least 2-3 weeks upfront. If you want to be able to choose the time slot that fits you best, you need to book at least a month in advance.

If you want to visit observation decks at Burj Khalifa or Dubai Frame , you also need to book ahead. In most cases, a few days in advance is sufficient, but it really depends on the period when you travel and how flexible you are. Also, consider visiting these attractions early in the morning or late in the evening for smaller crowds and better photo opportunities.

PRO TIP: For Burj Khalifa, we recommend getting a ticket that includes Level 148 . Not only you get to visit another level which is not included with standard tickets, but you also get skip-the-line access through the security check and at the elevators, and it includes some snacks and drinks. It’s well worth it.

Overall, we always recommend booking tickets and tours at least a month before your trip. But keep in mind that for many popular destinations worldwide booking a month or even two upfront is not sufficient anymore.

Tickets don’t get cheaper and there’s less availability the longer you wait. Plus, if you use GetYourG u ide for all attraction tickets and tours like we do, you can take advantage of their very flexible cancelation policy.

Good to know: Booking tickets/tours via websites like GetYourGuide , Viator , or Tiqets also saves you money on exchange rates. The exchange rate they use is the official rate and transactions are in your currency. Whereas if you pay on the spot, it will usually cost you quite a lot more (not only because many tickets are more expensive at the counter, but also because of credit card fees, exchange rate deviations, etc.).

Plus, booking and paying ahead makes it easier to budget for your vacation and keep your credit card’s spending limit available for other expenses during your trip.

3. Foresee Enough Time & Plan Wisely

There is one thing that you may not realize as a first-time visitor to Dubai and that’s how huge the city is. It’s not a place that you can compare to cities like Rome or London , or even New York City where you can still walk between many attractions and see a lot in a short time…

Dubai is totally different! It’s big, not really walkable (except in some areas), and the attractions are spread out all over the enormous and ever-growing city.

Plus, road works and traffic jams turn every ride into an expedition. The same trip that takes 20 minutes at night or early in the morning can take you an hour or even longer during the day. And yes, public transport can be a good option, but it also has its limitations – more about it further below.

Good to know: When planning your sightseeing itinerary, you will see that most Dubai attractions work with timed entry slots. Be sure to foresee plenty of extra time everywhere though! Even with timed entry tickets, you will often be standing in line for an hour or even longer, not to mention the time that it takes to actually visit the place or get from one attraction to the other.

TIP: So while planning what to see and do, foresee enough extra time between the sights and don’t try to do too much in a single day. Also, group the attractions based on their location, and go for a mix of top attractions with some lesser-known ones. That way, you don’t have to rush from one queue to another and your trip will be much more relaxed.

This brings us to the next tip – see below.

AYA Universe - Dubai travel tips

4. Don’t Try to See Everything

There is so much to see and do in Dubai that you could easily stay here for a few months and still not experience everything the area has to offer. So resist FOMO and the urge of having to see ‘everything’. It’s simply impossible, especially if you are only traveling to Dubai for just a few days or a week.

TIP: Choose a few places, attractions, and experiences that interest you the most and focus on those rather than ticking off boxes just because some guidebook told you that one or the other place is ‘a must’.

If you absolutely want to go to the top of Burj Khalifa, well – just do it and tick it off your bucket list. After all, how often will you get a chance to visit the world’s tallest building… In that case, book tickets in advance and be prepared to queue, or save time and avoid the crowds with priority access .

On the other hand, maybe you are perfectly content just seeing the building from the outside and rather spend your time visiting other viewing platforms like Sky Views , the View at The Palm , or Dubai Frame …

Or maybe you don’t care about any of these at all and much rather spend a day at a water park , exploring the old town souks (markets), or enjoying the views from a luxury yacht …

Dubai has so much to offer to all types of travelers. So personalize your itinerary based on what you really want to do, taking into account the time that you have, your interests, and your budget. If you are visiting Dubai with the family, try to incorporate some fun activities for the kids in your itinerary as well, even if it means that you’ll have less time for sightseeing.

5. Consider Tours & Private Drivers

If you want to see a lot of Dubai in a short time or you don’t know where to even start deciding where to go, consider booking tours or private guides/drivers .

Sometimes, a private driver can also be cheaper than taking a taxi between all those places, and often, you can also find cars that can take up to 6 passengers (vs 4 in most taxis).

Just to be clear, I am talking about quickly seeing multiple places all over the city in a single day. If you want to spend more time exploring the sites, you better go on your own.

There are tons of different ‘city highlights’ tours that bring you to many of the main landmarks of Dubai in (half) a day. Keep in mind that in most cases, your ‘visit’ will be just a quick photo stop, so it’s not comparable to actually visiting the sights. But it’s a good way to get an introduction to Dubai and catch a glimpse of the top spots.

PRO TIP: If you do a city highlights tour, do it at the beginning of your trip! That way, you can later come back to some of the places that you like the most. An ideal way to explore Dubai is to take an introductory city tour first as you arrive and then thoroughly visiting some of the main landmarks and attractions on your own later.

Abu Dhabi day trip tip: One of the best guided tours we recently did in Dubai was this highly-rated tour. If you want to see the top sights of Abu Dhabi in a day, this tour has by far the best itinerary (I compared many tours before we chose this one and it didn’t disappoint).

6. Save Time & Money with Combination Tickets

Dubai is expensive, there is no arguing about it. But with some smart planning, you can save some money on some of the main attractions.

One of the best ways to do this is by opting for combination tickets and/or city cards that include several popular places.

Here are some of the most popular deals:

  • Burj Khalifa + Dubai Aquarium (+-$20 savings per person).
  • Atlantis Aquaventure + Lost Chambers Aquarium (+-$25-30 savings per person).
  • GoCity Explorer Pass (up to 50% savings, depending on the attractions you visit).

Good to know: Some tickets cost more during the most popular times. For example, Burj Khalifa around sunset. So if you want to save money, be sure to check prices for different time slots/days when making reservations.

7. Stay Longer

You might be wondering how much time you need to see the best of Dubai. Well, there is really no straightforward answer to this and so much depends on your interests.

That being said, I recommend planning at least a week for a first visit to Dubai. But if you have time and your budget allows it, stay longer. You won’t get bored!

With a week in Dubai, you will be able to visit most of the top landmarks, explore several different parts of the city, and also find some time to relax and unwind. If you want to spend more time at the beach or by the pool, visit a water park or a theme park with your kids, or make a day trip to Abu Dhabi, ideally, you plan at least 10-12 days for Dubai.

But don’t worry if your trip is shorter and you can’t extend it. You can have a perfectly enjoyable visit and see a lot even if you only have a day or two in Dubai. Via the link below, you can find plenty of ideas for planning a shorter visit.

8. Choose the Location of Your Hotel Wisely

Deciding where to stay in Dubai might not be as straightforward as you may think, especially if the main purpose of your visit is to explore the city.

There is not one perfect place to stay in Dubai – it’s simply much too big and too spread out for that.

However, some areas are better than others and some are really a disaster for commute. If you pick the wrong location, you might be stuck in traffic for hours every time you want to go anywhere and do some sightseeing. On the other hand, that same spot might be perfect for those who are mainly interested in swimming and dining, and are just looking for a relaxing vacation with maybe one or two excursions that include a pick-up and drop-off at the hotel…

TIP: I strongly recommend that you look at the map and the location of the places that you want to visit before deciding where to stay in Dubai. Also, consider how you will travel around.

For example, staying within walking distance of a metro station might save you a lot of time and money on commuting if you plan to do lots of sightseeing. Whereas staying in a nice walkable area with lots of shops and restaurants will be ideal if you like to go out at night.

Here are two of the very best areas to stay in Dubai:

  • Dubai Downtown (the area around Dubai Mall – Burj Khalifa) is very central and is perfect for those who want to do a lot of sightseeing, but also for shopping and dining. Sofitel Dubai Downtown is a great choice in this area, close to Dubai Mall and just near a metro station. Remember, however, that this is the heart of the city, so very busy and far from the sea.
  • Dubai Marina in the south of the city is another popular area to stay in Dubai. It’s a great choice for those who are looking for a more relaxing vacation, boat trips, water parks, dining, shopping, etc. The beach is not too far from here, however, it will take at least 45-60 minutes to reach the city center. Millennium Place is a very popular hotel not too far from the main Marina area and close to the metro. On a somewhat higher budget, JW Marriott Hotel Marina is a wonderful choice if you want to be in the heart of the Marina.

TIP: On our most recent visit to Dubai, we stayed at Rove La Mer Beach Hotel . It’s close to the downtown area, so quite convenient for sightseeing, but also with direct access to a private beach – the best of both worlds. We loved this hip modern hotel, also because it’s much smaller and more intimate – a kind of place where you don’t have to worry about losing your kids at breakfast. It also offers great price/quality for Dubai. The only downside is that the area around the hotel is still developing with lots of construction going on, but it will only get more attractive in the future.

9. Beware of Tourism Taxes

Hotel stays (including hotel apartments, guesthouses, holiday homes, etc.) in the United Arab Emirates are taxed with various fees, surcharges, and taxes. These amounts might vary depending on the hotel, but it’s not abnormal that these taxes add over 20-25% to your room rate.

For example, our recent hotel invoice in Dubai showed a 10% service charge, 7% municipality fees, 5 % VAT, and an additional 10 AED (+-$3) Tourism Dirham Fee per night.

Altogether, we paid about 24,4% on top of the official room rate. The good thing is that we knew in advance how much we had to pay. Otherwise, this could be a very unpleasant surprise…

So when looking for accommodation in Dubai and comparing prices, make sure that you are actually comparing the same thing!

Many hotel websites show prices without (some/any) taxes, so you may think that booking directly with them is cheaper. Often, it’s not the case at all!

TIP: We always use Booking.com for our accommodation bookings, also in Dubai. With them, you see the total price, including all fees and taxes, so you know exactly how much you will spend. (Depending on booking conditions, you may have to prepay for the stay in advance whereas the taxes are charged separately when you arrive at the hotel, but the total amount you see when making a reservation is correct).

10. Use Public Transport & Local Taxis

Dubai’s public transport system is efficient and inexpensive. Depending on where you are staying and traveling to, it might be very convenient to use the Dubai Metro, Tram, Monorail, or even local buses.

However, this depends on the exact trip you are planning to make and also on the size of your group. Sometimes, public transport is the best way to get around the city quickly and affordably. But there are also many situations when it’s a real hassle and doesn’t make your trip faster or much cheaper.

In those cases, you will be glad to know that taxis are rather affordable in Dubai . The most expensive taxi ride we recently took in Dubai was 25 kilometers, it took over 50 minutes, and it cost us 76 AED (+-$21).

However, be careful that you only use official taxis! Because e.g. Uber is often quite a lot more expensive. Not even to mention that they sometimes charge twice the price during peak times of increased demand. We learned this the hard way, after taking a few overpriced Uber rides…

Also, unlike in many other countries where we use Uber all the time, in Dubai, you never really know how much you will pay until the end of the ride. The price you see in the beginning is usually just an approximate indication.

TIP: Install Careem app on your smartphone and use it to request ‘Hala Taxi’. That’s the best way to get an official taxi in Dubai. If you request ‘Rides’, it works similar as Uber and is more expensive. We learned this from a local taxi driver after a few very unpleasant experiences with Uber and private drivers randomly offering their services at the main tourist spots, and it saved us a fortune.

To give you an idea, we were quoted 120 AED ($33) by Uber and 150 AED ($40) by random ‘kind strangers’ for a ride that in the end cost us 22 AED ($6) by official taxi. When it comes to busy times and popular tourist hotspots, getting a taxi ride in Dubai can feel like navigating the Wild West…

11. Start Your Days Early

One of the best ways to make the most out of your trip to Dubai is to start your days early.

There’s much less traffic in the morning, so you can get everywhere much quicker. But the main advantage is that there are hardly any other people, even at the most popular attractions. In addition – if you are visiting Dubai in the warmest months – getting up early is the best way to avoid the biggest heat.

Good to know: Be sure to check opening times of the places you want to visit. While some attractions don’t open until noon, many others are open from 9-10 AM. There are also places – like e.g. Burj Khalifa – that you can visit at 7 AM, and on some days even earlier if you like…

For example, we recently went to the Aquaventure Water Park at Atlantis around opening time. There were no lines at the entrance and we could also do many popular slides without any wait. A few hours later, people were queuing for 45-60 minutes at the same rides…

In addition, the taxi ride to get there in the morning took us just 22 minutes. That same ride to get back to our hotel in the evening was over 50 minutes, not counting more than 10 minutes for a taxi to arrive… So yes, it really pays to explore Dubai in the morning!

12. Stay Connected

While pretty much all public places and tourist attractions in Dubai offer free Wi-Fi, we highly recommend getting a local SIM card for your visit to UAE. There are so many situations when it’s just much easier to stay connected. For example, if you need to book a taxi ride, or book some tickets on the go, etc.

Depending on your data plan, roaming can cost a fortune in Dubai. My provider sent me an sms saying that using data in UAE will cost me 15 euros per megabyte (ouch! and no, thank you!). So the first thing I did after landing in Dubai was disconnect roaming.

There are several ways to approach this:

  • Pocket Wi-Fi. One of the easiest ways to stay connected on the go is by renting a pocket WiFi at Dubai airport . This is a very convenient option if you don’t want to change anything on your phone. It’s also convenient if you are traveling with a family/friends since you can connect up to 10 devices to it.
  • Local SIM card. Alternatively, you can opt opt for a physical SIM card, which is also available at the airport . With this option, you will need to place this card into your phone. If you want to keep your ‘own’ phone number working as well, see if your phone has a dual SIM option – then you can use both. Otherwise, you may want to bring an old phone to use with this local card.
  • eSIM. There are many providers available (just search online), but what’s included and the prices vary a lot. Depending on which one you choose and also on your device, this can be a very easy and simple process, but it’s also not very straightforward if you have never done it before. Also, not all phones allow eSIM – so be sure to double-check if your smartphone has this capability.

13. Respect Local Culture

While Dubai is a very cosmopolitan city, it’s also a place with different cultural norms and traditions. Overall, UAE is very ‘Western’ and Dubai in particular is very laid back and relaxed. With over 200 nationalities living in Dubai, it’s a true melting pot of different cultures. Still, remember that you are a visitor here, and be respectful.

Dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites or public places. Also, avoid public displays of affection, as these can be considered disrespectful.

If you’re visiting during Ramadan, be mindful of local customs and traditions. Keep in mind that many traditional restaurants and cafes will be closed during the day but will come to life after sunset. If you are visiting during Ramadan and are planning sightseeing during the day or a day trip to e.g. Abu Dhabi, it’s advisable to pack your own lunch.

One of the most common questions we get is what to wear when traveling to Dubai. Well, you will see people wearing all kinds of clothing – from burkas that cover the entire body to revealing summer clothes that hardly cover much at all. However, while a lot is tolerated, it’s not always appreciated.

So when in doubt, remember that it’s always safer to cover your knees and shoulders. See-through clothing is also not the best idea, unless on a beach.

TIP: Wear loose light clothes – not as much for religious or cultural reasons, but also because of the heat. Long skirts/dresses or wide summer pants will be much more comfortable than tight clothes.

14. Use Credit Cards

The official currency in Dubai is the United Arab Emirates Dirham (AED) and all the prices are displayed in this currency. All regular businesses accept cash and electronic means of payment, such as credit cards or smartphone payments.

We haven’t encountered a single place in Dubai that wouldn’t accept a credit card. So if you want to make it easy and simple for yourself, you don’t even need to exchange money and can simply use cards everywhere.

Important! Inform your bank about your visit so that they don’t block your cards for ‘suspicious activity’. And even then… Despite precautions, one of my cards got blocked by a credit card company after a random payment at a restaurant in one of the main malls in Dubai. We had to call the bank to get them to unblock it again and they say that this happens when ‘the systems’ suspect anything suspicious, despite us having notified our bank in advance…

If you want to leave a tip to someone or purchase something small, you may want to have some local currency at hand. In that case, you can get some cash from local ATMs which you will find in malls all over the city. I strongly encourage you to only use ATMs attached to local bank offices as some others might charge additional fees and/or give the worst exchange rates.

PRO TIP: When using ATMs to withdraw money or paying by card, you always get an option between local currency (AED) and your own currency. Always choose local currency (AED) – that way, your bank will do the exchange and you will always get a better rate than the one offered by ATMs or pay terminals.

Good to know: We heard it on quite a few occasions that money is king in Dubai and it doesn’t matter in which currency you want to pay – they will accept it. Indeed, this is the case at the markets (souks) and some smaller private businesses. On a recent trip to Dubai, I could use Euros at the souk. The sellers also told us that they accept credit cards (just make sure to haggle – see below).

15. Shop Smart

Dubai is a shopper’s paradise, but prices can vary a lot depending on where you shop. The prestigious locations like the Dubai Mall are home to some of the most expensive brands in the world and the prices here are usually very high. You will be able to find much better deals at the Dubai Outlet Mall, for example.

Also, if you go to various local markets (souks), be sure to shop around for better deals. Also, don’t forget to haggle – and not a little! Many sellers take advantage of tourists asking ridiculously high prices. Often, 3-4 times higher than what you should pay, and likely even more… Don’t be shy, offer the price that seems correct to you, and be prepared to walk away.

On a recent trip, I got intrigued by a perfume someone put on me while walking through the Dubai Spice Souk (this is common practice – people will (try to) put all kinds of stuff on you – from scarfs to perfumes etc.). So I asked how much it was. The prices depend on the size and the design of the bottle, they said, and so we settled on a medium-sized simple bottle and they told me it was 280 AED (+- 70 euros).

No way I would pay 70 euros for a tiny bottle of perfume at a market! And so we started the negotiations. In the end, I paid 20 euros in cash which – to me – felt like a correct price. The seller was telling me that this was way too low and he was only willing to do it because it was our last day in Dubai and my kids were cute… 😉

After that, I saw similar perfumes at Dubai Airport souvenir store and indeed, most of them were about 20-25 euros for about the same size I got. So don’t be afraid to negotiate and if you don’t feel comfortable with the price or the quality, simply walk away.

16. Explore Beyond the Glitz

While Dubai is best known for its skyscrapers and extravagant landmarks, don’t miss out on its cultural gems as well.

One of the best places to catch a glimpse of authentic culture is Old Dubai. Visit the historic Al Fahidi neighborhood, explore the spice and gold souks, and take a traditional abra ride along Dubai Creek. These experiences are also quite touristy, but they are also totally different from the main attractions in Dubai.

TIP: There are many excellent guided tours that visit Old Dubai . They all take you to the same area, do the traditional boat ride on Dubai Creek, and visit the same local markets. Most tours also include local coffee and dades, and some also food tasting. While you can just visit the area on your own, these tours are really affordable and give you a somewhat deeper insight and insider tips.

On our recent visit, we chose this walking/food tour . It started with some traditional food tasting at a local restaurant, followed by a visit to the old town, a boat ride, and ended at the gold and spice souks. A nice way to spend a few hours and get to know a different side of the city.

17. Avoid Weekends

If you think Dubai is busy on a weekday, try to imagine it on a weekend or on public holidays.

So if you can adjust your plans, avoid visiting the most popular attractions on weekends (Friday afternoon, Saturday, and Sunday).

If you are in Dubai for more than a few days, this is really not difficult to do. Visit the most popular places such as Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, Global Village , Miracle Garden , or theme parks and water parks on weekdays.

On weekends, you can do more relaxing activities such as a sightseeing a yacht trip , a speedboat tour , spend time at the beach or by the pool, go parasailing or jetskiing , or take a desert tour – see below.

Dubai Mall and Aquarium

18. Experience the Desert

No trip to Dubai would be complete without experiencing its desert. Book a desert safari tour for an adrenaline-pumping ride over the dunes, followed by a traditional Bedouin-style dinner under the stars. It’s an unforgettable experience!

There are many desert tour options , but when you look closely, they are very similar in what they offer. Depending on the option you book, you have one main activity – usually, dune bashing in a jeep, quad, or camel ride. Afterward, you spend time in a desert camp where you can partake in all kinds of different experiences.

Some of these experiences include taking pictures with falcons and camels, sandboarding, various shows (traditional dance, belly dance, fire show), henna tattoos, etc. There is always lots of local food and it’s surprisingly good.

Our experience: We have done two desert tours in Dubai (on different trips) and they were both very similar and both excellent. The first time we went on this dune safari tour and on a recent trip, we opted for this highly-rated tour that includes a longer camel ride . In both cases, the second part of the tour was quite similar, the main difference was that the first tour included an exhilarating jeep ride through the dunes, and the second one – a 45-minute camel ride.

The whole family really enjoyed these tours and I couldn’t say which one is better. All I can tell you is that it’s a nice experience that will make your trip to Dubai even more memorable.

19. Don’t Forget Little Important Details

Here are some additional travel tips for Dubai:

  • Bring a reusable water bottle. Dubai is so warm and dry that you will want to carry a bottle of water on you at all times. If you want to minimize plastic waste, you may want to bring your own reusable water bottle. Tap water is, in general, safe to drink. In addition, you will also see free water taps at some public areas, where you can refill your bottles.
  • Pack a travel adapter. UAE uses  Type G  plugs, same as in the UK. However, we noticed that in most hotels you can also simply use European plugs and sometimes a simple USB cable. Still, we always pack a Type G adapter just to be safe.
  • Bring a power bank to charge your phone on the go. Also, carry extra batteries for your camera.
  • Know that you are not obliged to tip, but it’s also appreciated. Many people tip 10-15% at the restaurants or give a small tip to tour guides. If you like to tip, make sure you have some small bills of local currency.
  • Bring a small crossbody bag for sightseeing. At some landmarks, you will be asked to leave bigger bags/backpacks in a locker. I like Hedgren crossbody bags for travel – they are light, sturdy, and very durable. The one I have is big enough to hold my camera, a power bank, documents, and even two water bottles, and I was never asked to use a locker. But pack the smallest backpack and you’ll often have to leave it behind…
  • Don’t forget sun protection. A sun hat, sunscreen lotion, and sunglasses are a must when visiting Dubai!

The best time to visit Dubai: few crowds, great deals, and blissed-out weather

Tourists on a beach on a sunny day in Dubai

Dubai appeals to many—from shopaholics and beach bums, to thrill seekers and lovebirds. Whether you’re in need of a sun-filled break or planning a family adventure , find out when’s the best time to visit Dubai. Between November and March, hotels and airfare see a price hike due to the peak season. Pleasant temperatures and shopping festivals are plus points, but expect more company at Dubai’s beaches since it’s the year-end break.

Traveling on a budget? Visit during the off-peak months from June to August. Theme parks and tours see thinner crowds, but Dubai’s merciless summer means scorching temperatures. The balmy shoulder seasons—April to May, and September to October—will lure sun-worshippers and honeymooners.

We’ve broken down Dubai’s peak, off-peak and shoulder months, and what to expect for each. Time your next trip according to what you want to see and do in Dubai.

Peak season in Dubai: November–March

Large crowds at The Dubai Fountain during the day

With clear skies, desirable weather and a full line-up of events, November to March is the best (and busiest) time to visit Dubai. Winter in Dubai sees average temperatures hovering around 77℉. Rain is more likely to happen only in January and downpours are short-lived. Nothing will hamper your plans too much, but have an umbrella handy just in case.

By February, temperatures would have cooled even further to around 68℉. It gets chilly in the evenings so pack some long-sleeved shirts and a sweater to keep warm. For the best middle ground, consider arriving between mid-November and mid-December.

Winter in Dubai

The UAE celebrates its National Day on December 2. A raft of parades, dhow races and traditional performances take center stage to commemorate this special day. To top it off, a captivating fireworks show wraps up the glorious festivities. Keen on traveling during the peak season? Brace yourself for congested areas and pricey hotel rates. Reserve your accommodation early to ensure availability.

The emirate also plays host to the Dubai Shopping Festival—the largest of its kind in the UAE— in January. If your trip extends past the new year, unleash your inner bargain-hunter to take advantage of steep discounts of up to 90% on anything from electronics to designer gear and jewelry. Get a spare suitcase ready.

In March, you can participate in an array of exciting events like the Dubai World Cup, Art Dubai and the Dubai Food Festival. The weather is also mild with the onset of spring, neither too hot nor humid.

Shoulder season in Dubai: April–May, September–October

Tourists at Jumeirah Public Beach during the day

If getting a tan and swimming in the Persian Gulf are top priorities, visit Dubai in April or May. The weather is lovely, and airfare and hotel rates are in the affordable range in spring. The heat and humidity would have fizzled out, and lodging is much easier to attain.

Enjoy inviting sea temperatures and long daylight hours. The cool waters—between 70 and 80℉—are optimal for surfing or wakeboarding . Alternatively, settle for a refreshing dip, minus the crowds.

Dubai Marina yacht tour

Not a beach lover? Indulge in a relaxing yacht tour instead, especially if you’re traveling in a group or with kids. Spot Bluewaters Island , Palm Jumeirah and the iconic Burj Al Arab from the coast, while tucking into tasty barbecue.

Visiting Dubai in September or October? As winter approaches, prepare for shorter days and lower temperatures. Pro-tip: Make time for camel racing—a prestigious event at Al Marmoom Camel Race Track. If watching this doesn’t leave your heart racing, perhaps riding a camel in the desert will. Other things to do during the fall months include: city walking tours and mouth-watering food trails at the local souks .

If you have a day to spare, consider joining a full-day sightseeing tour to neighboring Abu Dhabi . Admire the UAE’s rich capital and what it has to offer—from the revered Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center and Ferrari World Abu Dhabi to the bustling Abu Dhabi Dates Market .

Low season in Dubai: June–August

Buildings at La Mer in Dubai in the evening

The Dubai summer is scorching hot. The sun is unrelenting between June and August, with hardly any rain. Expect at least 10 to 12 hours of daylight, high levels of humidity, and temperatures of up to 107℉. Dubai’s tropical desert climate makes it prone to sandstorms. Tune in to local weather updates before confirming your activity for the day.

Summer in Dubai

Crowds at Wild Wadi Waterpark during the day in Dubai

If you’re organizing activities, park them in the early mornings or late evenings. Trade Dubai’s blazing beaches for cool water parks : Take advantage of shorter lines at Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark , Wild Wadi Waterpark or Laguna Waterpark in La Mer .

Some attractions like Dubai Miracle Garden and Global Village Dubai remain closed in summer. Thinking of heading to a bar or nightclub ? Most terraces and rooftop bars are closed throughout Dubai’s harsh summer months. Those that remain open like Barasti Beach Bar and Zero Gravity usually have limited seating indoors, so book a table well in advance.

A boat on display at the Dubai Museum and Al Fahidi Fort

The dry, off-peak season is an excellent time to retreat into any of Dubai’s air-conditioned megamalls or indoor attractions. Start with the fantastic museums or cloud-piercing observation decks and towers .

Summer in Dubai is a popular time for backpackers and budget travelers to fly in. Airfare is much cheaper, while hotels and retail stores offer steep discounts to draw tourists. Rates at some 5-star hotels can drop by a whopping 75%, with free room upgrades or dining credits to boot. It’s your chance to enjoy a luxury vacation on a budget.

Ramadan in Dubai

Jumeirah Mosque in Dubai during the day

Dubai carries a more subdued vibe during Ramadan. As the Islamic calendar depends on the lunar cycle, the 30-day period varies each year. If your trip coincides with this holy season, schedule it before Eid al-Fitr—a three-day mega celebration—to avoid the city’s congestion.

During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk. This is the best period to experience the cultural and spiritual side of Dubai. Observe local traditions, roam around street bazaars and stunning mosques like Jumeirah Mosque , and participate in grand iftars (evening meal to break the fast). Most shops and eateries will adjust their opening hours. Many malls, theme parks, and tourist attractions are emptier in the day, but the city comes alive at night.

When you’re there, it’s important to be respectful of local customs. Eating, drinking or smoking in public is strictly forbidden throughout the day. Also, be mindful of what you wear. Opt for loose-fitting clothing that covers your shoulders and knees.

When is the best time to visit Dubai?

  • Month-by-month

The best time to visit Dubai is in September and April, when it’s sunny but not too hot. While much of the Northern Hemisphere is wrapped up for winter during this period, the city continues to offer bright skies and balmy temperatures.

Temperatures soar from May to August, so hotel prices drop and crowds disperse. This is an excellent time to visit if you enjoy extreme heat, or plan to spend most of your time inside the air-conditioned shopping malls.

Ramadan is usually quieter, no matter when it falls through the year. This can make it a good time to go, but the holiday can affect certain activities due to restrictions, and you cannot eat, drink or smoke in public. We suggest avoiding Eid al-Fitr, the three-day festival that marks the end of Ramadan, as it can get very hectic in the city.

When is The Best Time to Visit Dubai? 2024 Monthly Guide to Dubai

A city with year-round action, but is there an ideal time to visit Dubai?  We look at the seasons and special events in 2024 that you may want to plan your travel to Dubai around.

Is There a Best Season to Visit Dubai?

What to expect winter in dubai, what to expect summer in dubai, what weather should i expect in dubai, common questions about dubai weather, religion & religious holidays in dubai, public holidays in dubai, school holidays in dubai.

Dubai doesn’t really work on traditional seasons of the northern hemisphere, moving from mild to hot to very hot to extremely hot!

You are better off assessing Dubai on a spectrum of how much heat you can manage!

Some prefer the late spring when outside conditions are perfect for the beach, whilst others prefer the very coolest winter months of December to February , when there is a plethora of outdoor activities going on, though the beach may be too chilly and crowds are at their peak.

We controversially share what we think is the worst time to visit Dubai here

Dubai in the winter is a magical place to be. Packed full of seasonal outdoor events and plenty of hours of sunshine to enjoy with very limited rain.

The coolest months are January to February, where daily maximums usually reach 25°C/77°F, and overnight lows dip to 15°C/59°F.   The sea temperature in winter dips on average to 23°C/73°F, which can be a little chilly for some.

Midwinter festivities start from National Day in early December, accompanied by Rugby 7’s and Christmas (yes, even in a Muslim country, it’s still full of festivity). The mild weather sticks around until April; then things rapidly heat up by the end of May.

Winter is the best time of year to enjoy the Dubai desert too and outdoor adventures .

You can read our complete guide to Dubai in Winter here.

the best time to travel in dubai

Life in Dubai largely moves indoors and to the evenings during the hottest months.  Peak summer temperatures can be as high as 50°C (122°F), though average in the low 40°’Cs.

It really starts to heat up by late April and peaks in August / September when the humidity also really kicks in.

Be mindful not only of air temperatures but sea temperatures which can rise to 32-35 ° C mid-summer – not exactly a refreshing ocean dip!  You’ll want to check that your accommodation has a temperature-controlled pool.

By October, the temperatures start to recede, and humidity drops, then by November, you are back to the mild and pleasant winter.

You can see our comprehensive guide on how to tackle Dubai (and still enjoy it!) during the peak of summer here.

Yes! It might take you by surprise, but rain is possible over the cooler winter months (or it could stay completely dry!). Over the last 10 years, it has rained on average five days of the year. No need to pack an umbrella just in case.  If it does rain in Dubai, it’s best to stay put if you can until it passes. It’s unlikely to go on for days, but when it does rain, there’s most likely flash flooding, and driving becomes chaotic.

Yes! Dust or sand storms are a common occurrence in the UAE.  Maybe not the extreme that you see in the movies (looking at you, Mission Impossible!) But nonetheless, there can be a lot of dust in the air. In fact, Dubai often has a permanent hanging layer of dust spoiling the skyline.  You experience this less so in Abu Dhabi and the other Emirates. The problem in most of the UAE is the fine layer of dust that develops pretty much year-round. A hazard of being in the middle of the desert. Those with severe asthma and other respiratory conditions should keep abreast of the AQI if it’s dusty out.

Fog in Dubai When is the best time to visit

We would joke that the only time Dubai has seen snow is when Ski Dubai arrived! It has, in fact, snowed in the Northern  Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah! The last time this was recorded on the country’s tallest peak, Jebel Jais, was in January 2020.  Jebel Jais in the Hajar Mountains can experience temperatures up to 10c cooler than the coast. In Dubai itself, though… very unlikely, but never say never! This is Dubai, after all.

As a Muslim country, as well as following the Gregorian calendar, the Hijri Calendar is observed.

Note that the weekend has recently changed from Friday/Saturday to Friday afternoon, Saturday & Sunday for the public sector. These days of the week are generally much busier than weekdays.

The main Muslim religious observances in Dubai and the UAE are:

  • The Holy Month of Ramadan
  • Eid al-Fitr
  • Arafat Day & Eid al-Adha
  • Hijri New Year
  • Mawlid al-Nabi al-Sharif – the Prophet’s birthday

These dates move forward roughly ten days each year compared to the Gregorian calendar.  Actual dates are not confirmed until the moon is sighted, and the Government may move the actual dates that the public holiday is observed.

Catch our complete guide to Dubai Public Holiday Dates in 2024 here – you can also use this tool to convert religious dates on the Hijri calendar to Gregorian dates.

The UAE also celebrates

  • New Year’s Day on 1 January annually
  • Commemoration Day (previously marked as Martyrs Day on 30 November, then 1 December; there was no public holiday declared in 2023)
  • National Day (recently changed to Union Day) on 2-3 December annually
See our guide to special National Day Events in Dubai here.

Although not marked as public holidays, there are many international religious events that you will also find observed on a wide scale in the retail and hospitality industries in Dubai, including:

  • Chinese New Year (10 February 2024)
  • Holi in Dubai (25 March 2024)
  • Easter in Dubai (31 March 2024)
  • Diwali in Dubai (1 November 2024)
  • Christmas in Dubai (25 December 2024)

Ramadan in Dubai

It’s important to observe each year when the Holy Month of Ramadan – the 9th month on the Hijri calendar will occur (the start date changes by approximately 10 days on the Gregorian calendar each year).  This is a period of deep religious reflection for Muslims and is strictly observed.

Ramadan in 1445 will start approximately 10 March and end on 9 April 2024.

The most important thing to observe is fasting, with no eating in public allowed, but also no public displays of affection, and ensuring the modest dress code is strictly followed. It can be a little confusing for visitors to know exactly what to expect, and rules and social norms are constantly changing.

We wouldn’t advise against visiting Dubai during Ramadan, far from it, but you will have a slightly different experience; joining in with iftar (the evening breaking of the fast) and overnight festivities such as suhoor and late-night shopping are great reasons to visit at this time of year.

The other thing you may observe is businesses and attractions closing during the day and only open in the evening. This happens less and less nowadays. Dubai has very much adopted a “business as usual” approach to Ramadan in recent years, aligning with the peak tourism season.

You can read our complete guide to visiting Dubai during Ramadan here.

Ramadan celebrations in Dubai

Visitors should be mindful when local school holidays occur in Dubai.

Most Dubai schools work on a three-term school year from September to December, January to March, and April to June (though some Asian curriculum schools operate a different school year).

School holidays occur locally:

  • Late March to early April
  • Most of July & August
  • Mid-December to early January

Some schools also have mid-term breaks in late October, mid-February, and late May.

You can see the Dubai school holidays for the current year as announced by the Ministerial Development Council here.

If you visit at any of the peak school holiday times, expect hotel accommodation to cost more and attractions to be MUCH busier. At these times, you will want to book in advance and arrange for skip-the-line tickets if possible.

Seeing attractions earlier in the day, you will always encounter fewer crowds than in the evening; it is very much a stay-up-late and evening culture in Dubai, even for families.

What is the best time to visit Dubai?

What is the best season to visit dubai and what should i expect, what are the best months to visit dubai and what is the weather like, what is the cheapest time to go to dubai.

The best time to visit Dubai is from the end of October to the beginning of April , because in this period you will find pleasant temperatures, clear and sunny skies, and you will be able to fully enjoy all the incredible attractions of Dubai and its surroundings.

However, Dubai is a vibrant and modern city, and deserves to be visited at any time of the year . The difference between the various seasons is mainly a matter of temperatures and crowding, so I thought I’d give you all the details about each month, so that you can find out the best time for you.

What is the best time for outdoor activities?

The best time to fully enjoy the many outdoor activities you can do in and around Dubai is between October and June .

What is the best time to go to the beach?

January and July are the months when most shopping centers offer sales. From the end of December to the beginning of February the Dubai Shopping Festival is held in Dubai, full of events, shows, concerts and exhibitions dedicated to the world of shopping. And obviously the malls are very busy, due to the sales.

When is Ramadan 2023 in Dubai and What Should I Expect?

Ramadan 2023 in Dubai is expected from 22 March 2023 to 21 April 2023 . Travelers to Dubai at that time must respect some simple rules of conduct: here you will find everything you need to know about Ramadan in the UAE .

High Season in Dubai starts from mid-October and ends in April. During this period the temperatures are pleasant, mild, and you will be able to fully enjoy all that Dubai has to offer.

Hotel prices could be higher, and attractions more crowded. It is good to book tours and tickets in advance, otherwise you risk wasting many hours queuing at the ticket offices.

Low Season in Dubai coincides with the heart of summer, particularly the months from July to September, when the scorching sun and rather high temperatures discourage many visitors.

This is the best time for backpackers or those traveling on a budget, as you can find great fares on flights and hotels.

The city is less crowded with tourists during this time, but you can still enjoy all of its attractions, theme parks and things to do. You just have to put up with some heat, bring good sunscreen, and pack some good travel insurance .

What should I expect when visiting Dubai in Spring?

Spring is a season that practically does not exist in Dubai: the United Arab Emirates are located quite close to the Tropic of Cancer , in the middle of the desert.

So when traveling to Dubai in Spring you will find good weather, similar to the summer one, but not excessively hot and muggy.

From March to May the weather in Dubai is perfect for visiting the city and enjoying the many things to do.

What should I expect when visiting Dubai in the Summer?

Summer in Dubai runs from May to the end of September, with the peak in July and August.

The weather in Dubai in the summer is quite muggy, with temperatures that can exceed 40 °C . It will be best to enjoy outdoor activities in the cooler hours of the day, in the late afternoon or early morning. On the other hand, you will find better prices, and much less crowds.

What should I expect when visiting Dubai in Autumn?

From the end of September to the beginning of November, the temperatures start to get milder, and Dubai is once again a perfect destination for outdoor activities.

Don’t expect autumn weather, just something similar to summer, but milder and much more pleasant.

What should I expect when visiting Dubai in Winter?

If you expect snow, well, you’ll only find it in Ski Dubai .

Traveling to Dubai in Winter you will find mild temperatures , perfect for outdoor activities like desert safaris , and a rather vibrant atmosphere, full of events and festivals.

You can leave your umbrella at home, usually in Dubai in the winter the sun shines, and it’s warm enough to walk around wearing just a t-shirt.

In April, the weather already resembles summer, although temperatures are still mild, making it pleasant to enjoy outdoor activities and sunbathe on the beach. The days begin to be longer, and the sun begins to be scorching, so beware of sunburn !

KEEP IN MIND: In Dubai (and the rest of the UAE) medical assistance is not free and can easily lead to very expensive bills . So you should seriously consider packing good travel insurance . Here you can find some tips about it.

Dubai in May

In May in Dubai we are already in the middle of summer ! Temperatures can exceed 38 °C, and the weather is quite hot, torrid and characterized by clear and sunny skies. This is a great time to enjoy outdoor activities, such as a jet ski or speedboat ride (you can do it from Dubai Marina ) or a flight on the world’s longest zipline in the Ras Al Kahimah area.

Dubai in June

In June, temperatures begin to get quite high, and the weather is characterized by long days, with clear skies and scorching sun . It is still a good time to enjoy an exciting desert safari , an unforgettable excursion to the scenic Musandam Peninsula or a snorkeling and diving day trip in the Fujairah area . During this period, you may also find advantageous rates for flights and hotels, as it goes towards the low season.

Dubai in July

In July you can feel the typical summer weather of Dubai: temperatures are hot , abundantly above 40°C. The days are long, sultry, and characterized by the scorching sun. The probability of rain is non-existent. During this time you could spend the hottest hours soaking in one of the magnificent water parks , such as the Atlantis Aquaventure or the Wild Wadi Waterpark .

Furthermore, in the evening it is very pleasant to enjoy an alfresco dinner in one of the Dubai Marina restaurants or aboard a traditional boat (dhow) sailing on the calm waters of Dubai Creek .

Dubai in November

November is the perfect month to discover Dubai and its surroundings . We are again in the heart of the high season, so the rates may be higher and the attractions more in demand (better to book in advance). The weather in this period is delightfully mild, with temperatures ranging between 20 and 31°C. Expect sunny days, with clear skies, perfect for enjoying outdoor activities.

Dubai in December

In December, thanks to lovely weather and incredibly mild and pleasant temperatures , Dubai is one of the most popular holiday destinations. The temperatures always remain well above 20°C, even in the evening. Expect sunny days, perfect for enjoying outdoor activities, desert safaris and incredible road trips around Dubai and Abu Dhabi .

Budget travelers and backpackers might choose to visit Dubai during the summer , which is the cheapest time to go.

The best rates for hotels and flights can be found from June to the end of August .

You can actually find great deals all year round, however during peak periods (November to February) the best hotels and resorts tend to be fully booked, and rates tend to soar.

Also keep in mind that the cooler months are the most popular months for families and groups, so it’s best to book tours and entrance tickets for attractions well in advance.

To save up to 60% on ticket prices for things to do and see in Dubai I recommend you book the Dubai Unlimited Pass or the Go Dubai card . These tourist cards allow you to enjoy Dubai to the full, saving a lot of money and getting free entry to major attractions .

When is the best time to visit Dubai

the best time to travel in dubai

Sitting on the trendy Persian Gulf, Dubai is a city that has so effortlessly blended tradition, think souks with smells of spices, creeks bobbing with dhows, and the Burj Khalifa: the world’s tallest building.

As well as an unparalleled coastline, luxury resorts, and limitless culinary delights, the city offers awe-inspiring views and sunshine all year round. The best time to visit Dubai really depends on how hot you like your sun and what you would like to do on your holiday.

Dubai winter: November – February

Why visit dubai in the winter.

DEST_UAE_DUBAI_DESERT_GettyImages-1158876554.jpg

The weather is ideal for sightseeing , with average temperatures ranging from 77 to 86 degrees during the day, with nights cooling down to a balmy 60 degrees. The sea may be a little chilly but most hotel pools are heated. It is also the peak tourist season, so there is a lot going on.

It’s a great time to try a desert safari

the best time to travel in dubai

This is the best time to enjoy a real desert experience as the nights are still warm and the days pleasant. The vast stretches of undulating sand provide the perfect backdrop to any picture. Excursions range from a morning desert safari to an overnight stay in the desert, but the evening desert safari offers everything you can get out of such an experience. Nothing really beats the view of the sun dipping behind a sand dune as it makes its last journey of the day.

Enhance your experience with a camel ride or if you prefer a faster pace, nothing is as exhilarating as riding a quad bike over a sand dune. And as the sun disappears and the sky is littered with stars, there follows an array of entertainment from belly dancing to fire shows over traditional Arabic foods. There are several companies as well as private drivers who offer this experience, so choose carefully.

Go shopping at Dubai Creek

the best time to travel in dubai

The pleasant weather is also the perfect opportunity to explore Dubai’s traditional side. Where better to do this than at Dubai Creek? The natural waterfront area is thought to have been the first major port of the Emirates and is surrounded by heritage buildings and traditional souks. You can catch a glimpse of traditional desert homes in the Al Fahidi historic district or various exotic birds, including flamingos, at the Ras Al Khor wetlands.

Try your bargaining skills at the old souks. They’re filled with the heady smells of spices mixed in with perfume and are lit with lamps at night. You can even take a traditional wooden dhow down the water. There are opportunities to dine by the water, the best being The Dubai Golf Club platform on the water and the floating restaurant which opens its doors at 07:00 hrs to 10:30 hrs.

Best events during Dubai winter

Dubai shopping festival.

the best time to travel in dubai

If you are after a bargain, January is the perfect time for you to visit Dubai. It’s when the Dubai Shopping Festival is held: an event where you can grab yourself a bargain, from designer gear and jewelry to electronics and much more.

Dubai Desert Classic

If you’re a golf fan then head to the Emirates Golf Club to see the world’s best golfers in action in January. Despite its location, it’s actually part of the European Tour. When it was founded in 1989, it was the first ever event to be staged in the Arabian Peninsula. Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia have previously lifted the winner’s trophy.

Dubai Tennis Championships

Grab tickets to one of the ATP tour’s most eagerly anticipated events. There are separate competitions for men and women held at the end of February. Previous winners include Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal and Venus Williams.

The Dubai Marathon

It’s much easier to enter this than the Boston or London one, so dig out your running shoes and prepare for a grueling race around the city. You’ll pass skyscrapers and beaches along the way as you hot foot it around the city. You’ll be ready for your holiday at the end of it!

Dubai Spring: March – May

Why visit dubai in the spring.

While you’re unlikely to see blossoms and hear twittering birds, you will get an average of eight hours of sunshine a day, giving you lots of time for sightseeing and exploring.

the best time to travel in dubai

If you’re after a beach holiday, April is the perfect month when the average temperature is between 70-73 and there is only a very low chance of rain. The sea temperature gets to around 77 degrees, making a dip into the rolling waves a rather enjoyable experience. May tends to be a lot quieter, too, so you won’t be rushing out of bed to grab a sun lounger.

Book your stay with a hotel that has a private beach, but don’t worry if you can’t – Dubai has many beaches to go around. The pristine Al Mamzar Beach offers five white sand beaches for sunbathing and swimming for a small fee, while sporty Kite Beach with its beach side cafes is perfect for those looking for water sports.

It takes place at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in November.

What to pack for a holiday in Dubai

the best time to travel in dubai

In general, pack light and comfortable clothes as the weather is usually quite warm. Do, however, carry a cardigan or light jacket for the evenings when the temperatures tend to dip. Most of the buildings in Dubai are also heavily air-conditioned, so the layers may come in handy. Remember, Dubai is a glamorous city, too. Pack something to glam up in!

Don’t forget that Dubai is a Muslim country, so women may be required to wear clothing that covers shoulders and knees outside your resort. Desert trips are best suited to light travel clothes.

Not surprisingly, room rates (and demand) are at their peak during these months, though skies in January and February can sometimes be rather overcast, and it can even be surprisingly wet at times. Temperatures rise significantly from March through to April and in October and November, when the thermometer regularly nudges up into the 30s, though the heat is still relatively bearable, and shouldn’t stop you getting out and about.

During the summer months from May to September the city boils – July and August are especially suffocating – with average temperatures in the high 30s to low 40s (and frequently higher). Although the heat is intense (even after dark), room rates at most of the top hotels plummet by as much as 75 percent, making this an excellent time to enjoy some authentic Dubaian luxury at relatively affordable prices, so long as you don’t mind spending most of your time hopping between air-conditioned hotels, shopping malls, restaurants and clubs.

Despite Dubai’s popular reputation as the land that culture forgot, the city hosts a number of world-class annual festivals showcasing film, music and the visual arts, while neighbouring Abu Dhabi also stages a number of leading cultural events. For a complete listing of events in the city, see w dubaicalendar.ae .

January/February

Dubai Shopping Festival One month in Jan/Feb. Only Dubai could dream up a festival devoted to shopping – and only in Dubai, one suspects, would it have proved so popular. The festival sees shops citywide offering all sorts of sales bargains, with discounts of up to 75 percent, while the big malls lay on lots of entertainment and children’s events to keep punters’ offspring amused during their parents’ extended shopping binges. The festival also sees a spate of events at the Global Village in Dubailand ( w globalvillage.ae ; open Nov–mid-April), comprising a range of eye-catching international pavilions that showcase arts and crafts from countries around the world, as well as performances of world music, dance and other events.

Dubai International Jazz Festival Three days in Feb w dubaijazzfest.com . Top local and international jazz and pop acts perform at Dubai Media City Amphitheatre. Recent participants have included Sting, James Blunt, Santana, Earth Wind & Fire, and Olly Murs.

Art Dubai Four days in mid-March w artdubai.ae . The biggest event in the Dubai visual arts calendar, this four-day Art Dubai fair features exhibits from some 75 galleries from around the world at Madinat Jumeirah.

Sikka Art Festival Ten days in mid-March w bit.ly/SikkaArtFair . Running concurrently with Art Dubai – and other events – as part of the city’s so-called “Art Week” ( w artweek.ae ), the Sikka Art Festival transforms Bastakiya quarter into a vibrant cultural district, with exhibitions and installations galore, plus other events including open-air film screenings, live music, cultural walks, talks and workshops.

Abu Dhabi Festival Three weeks in March/April w abudhabifestival.ae/en . Long-running arts festival featuring a mix of classical music, ballet and theatre, with performances by top global stars.

Emirates Airline Festival of Literature Ten days in March w emirateslitfest.com . Established in 2009 and now the Middle East’s largest literary festival, with several days of readings and discussions featuring leading local and international scribblers.

Arab Fashion Week Dubai Four days in March w dfw.ae . Leading Middle Eastern fashion event, showcasing work by designers from Arabia and beyond.

Sharjah Biennial March to May w sharjahbiennial.org . The oldest (established 1993) and most famous art festival in the Gulf, held over two months every other year (odd-numbered years) and showcasing major Arabian and international artists, along with other cultural events.

Taste of Dubai Three days in mid-March w tasteofdubaifestival.com . Three days of live cookery exhibitions in Dubai Media City by local and visiting international celebrity chefs, plus plenty of chances to sample food and drink served up in situ by many of the city's leading restaurants and chefs.

Dubai Summer Surprises Mid-June to mid-July. An attempt to lure visitors to Dubai during the blisteringly hot summer months, Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) is a mainly mall-based event – really more of a marketing promotion than a genuine festival – with a decent selection of shopping bargains on offer and masses of live children’s entertainment presided over by the irritating cartoon figure known as Modhesh, whose crinkly yellow features you’ll probably quickly learn to loathe. Great if you've got kids in tow, however.

Dubai International Film Festival One week in mid-Dec w dubaifilmfest.com . This major film festival showcases international art house films, including a particular focus on home-grown work and usually a few well-known celebs in attendance.

National Day Dec 2. The UAE’s independence day is celebrated with a raft of citywide events, including parades, dhow races and performances of traditional music and dance.

Al Dhafra Festival Three weeks in Dec/Jan w aldhafrafestival.ae . Held at the small town of Madinat Zayed in western Abu Dhabi emirate, this lively annual festival is devoted to traditional Bedouin desert culture and heritage. The centrepiece of the festival is a huge camel fair, with races, auctions and even beauty competitions for the best-looking dromedaries. Other events showcase the region’s handicrafts, poetry, cooking and traditional date industry.

The Islamic holy month of Ramadan is observed with great attention and ceremony in Dubai, and is the one time of the year when you really get the sense of being in an essentially Muslim city. For Muslims, Ramadan represents a period in which to purify mind and body and to reaffirm one’s relationship with God. Muslims are required to fast from dawn to dusk, and as a tourist you will be expected to publicly observe these strictures, although you are free to eat and drink in the privacy of your own hotel room, or in any of the carefully screened-off dining areas set up in hotels throughout the city (alcohol is also served discreetly in some places after dark, but not during the day). Eating, drinking, smoking or chewing gum in public, however, is a definite no-no, and will cause considerable offence to local Muslims; singing, dancing and swearing in public are similarly frowned upon. In addition, live music is also completely forbidden during the holy month (though recorded music is allowed), while the city’s nightclubs all close for the duration, and many shops scale back their opening hours.

Fasting ends at dusk, at which point the previously comatose city springs to life in a celebratory round of eating, drinking and socializing known as Iftar (“The Breaking of the Fast”). Many of the city’s top hotels set up superb “Iftar tents”, with lavish Arabian buffets, and things remain lively until the small hours, when everyone goes off to bed in preparation for another day of abstinence. The atmosphere is particularly exuberant, and the Iftar tents especially lavish, during Eid ul Fitr , the day marking the end of Ramadan, when the entire city erupts in an explosion of celebratory festivity.

Falling approximately 70 days after the end of Ramadan, on the tenth day of the Islamic lunar month of Dhul Hijja, Eid al Adha (the “Festival of the Sacrifice”) celebrates the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail at the command of God (although having proved his obedience, he was permitted to sacrifice a ram instead). The festival also marks the end of the traditional pilgrimage season to Mecca. Eid al Adha is celebrated in Dubai with a four-day holiday, during which lambs are sacrificed and the meat divided among the poor. No alcohol is served on the day before the festival day itself.

Best time to visit Dubai: when to go and what to do

From when to catch the jazz and film festivals to the best months to visit to avoid the sapping heat, our guide has everything you need to know.

the best time to travel in dubai

T iming is key when it comes to getting the best out of your trip to the second largest Emirate. Touchdown in summer and you’ll be constantly dodging the sun – days here can heat up to 45C – but head in the winter months and you can expect a beach-perfect 26C.

When is the best time of year to visit Dubai?

The best time of year to visit Dubai is from November to February. Sea temperatures are a soul-warming 23C and an average of ten hours of sunshine per day makes it the perfect spot for winter sun.

Which is the cheapest month to go to Dubai?

The savviest time to visit Dubai is September. Brits and Europeans tend to stick to the Mediterranean for sun, causing hotel rates and flight prices to plummet. From October to New Year hotel rates can creep up, peaking in the December to February high season — particularly around Christmas.

You’re here to enjoy the sights and shopping malls, not to get stuck in a hotel room ramping up the air conditioning, so avoid May through to August. In a particularly hot July, average temperatures can be high enough to melt make-up and — without shade — actual parts of your car. For the best all-round winter-sun break, consider February. Or, if you can swing it, try Easter.

Which are the hottest months in Dubai?

The UAE gets guaranteed sunshine from May to September, with temperatures topping out at 40C during summer in Dubai. Air conditioning is set to arctic and the city’s soothing shopping malls become honeypots for eating, drinking and staying cool. To take the heat off around this time, the long-running Dubai Summer Surprises shopping festival helps to invigorate the city with an unprecedented retail extravaganza.

The Dubai Mall from the sky (Getty Images)

If you can brave the heat and intense humidity, early or late summer can be a great time to visit Dubai, particularly as the city’s attractions are at their quietest. At no other time of the year will the Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, or the Dubai Fountain be almost exclusively yours. As for dune bashing or beach hopping? Forget it. Come back in the cooler winter months, from November to February, when average temperatures hover around the mid-20Cs.

High season runs from November through to February and you’re best booking hotels direct to get the most competitive rates. Make sure there’s a pool (you’ll need one for the heat) and ask for a free or discounted upgrade. With more than 100,000 rooms on the map, there’s always a deluxe suite going spare somewhere.

Jumeriah Beach Resort (Alamy)

When is Ramadan?

The holy month of Ramadan, when Muslims refrain from eating and drinking from dawn until dusk, falls at a different point every 12 months. Over the next few years, Ramadan is in late spring, with the month of fasting anticipated to wind back from May to April to March and then into the winter months — the most popular times to visit Dubai. The rule of thumb is that it spans for 30 days and arrives 10 to 11 days earlier each year, in step with the shorter Islamic calendar.

How does this affect you? Ramadan is a time for prayer, reflection and family for the UAE’s Islamic community and being invited to visit a mosque for iftar, the nightly banquet that breaks the daily fast, is one of the most enriching experiences you can have in the Middle East.

That said, the general mood of conservatism and respecting local customs means many hotels and restaurants change their opening hours (or open screened areas for visitors) and it is frowned upon to be seen eating, drinking or smoking in public — including at the beach and in the shopping mall. Conservative clothing is also key and alcohol isn’t served until after sunset. Show sensitivity and common sense and you’ll get more out of the month of Ramadan than you might think.

Key events in Dubai

Dubai has a huge network of artists, athletes, creatives and musicians, so you can expect lots of big, brash festivals to match. The high-season winter months are bookended by the Dubai International Film Festival in December and Art Dubai, the Dubai World Cup and Taste of Dubai in March. The Dubai International Jazz Festival (February) and Dubai Marathon (January) capitalise on far cooler temperatures.

Dubai is also a shopping Shangri-La, bursting with world-leading retail outlets. For aficionados, the annual Dubai Shopping Festival from December to January is to the UAE what Carnival is to Rio, with a riot of bejewelled dresses and head scarves. If that doesn’t suit you make a beeline to the city’s open-air shopping malls and outdoor markets. A few to consider are The Beach in JBR, La Mer in Jumeirah, or City Walk and Boxpark, both in Al Was.

Know before you plan your trip to Dubai

The best time to visit Dubai is definitely from November to February when you can experience the best of Dubai – the desert and outdoor activities to exciting events and live entertainment. March, April, September and October are also ideal for those like me who want a laid back holiday without the crowds. But thanks to its ingenious architecture and building technology to keep cool, there is always something to do in Dubai all year long!

Dubai through the year

  • High Season in Dubai spans from November to April, boasting ideal weather characterized by cool temperatures and radiant winter sun, a stark contrast to the gloomy conditions prevalent in many other parts of the world during this time. This period heralds a joyous atmosphere in Dubai, marked by an array of concerts, live events, shopping festivals, and exhilarating tours such as dhow cruises and desert safaris. It attracts a significant influx of international tourists, resulting in higher airfare and hotel rates.
  • Low Season in Dubai sets in from May to August, when the intense sun tends to deter even the most enthusiastic travelers. This period presents an opportunity for budget-conscious visitors, particularly backpackers, as airfares plummet and various amenities are offered at discounted rates. While outdoor activities may be less appealing due to the
  • Shoulder Season in Dubai , my favourite season, spans September and October, offering the perfect opportunity to embrace the surf! As temperatures begin to moderate, the sea becomes inviting for swimming and a variety of thrilling water sports such as jet-surfing and wakeboarding. With fewer international tourists due to the school season in many parts of the world, this period often brings reduced rates for accommodations and activities, making it an ideal time to explore Dubai's offerings.

Best season to go to Dubai

While Dubai does not have all the four seasons in full swing, the weather borders around the worldly four seasons. Take a look and you'll know.

spring in barcelona

Dubai in Spring

Dubai, nestled in the desert, offers a unique experience void of traditional spring blooms found elsewhere. However, its glorious weather, boasting the perfect balance of sunlight, paints a picturesque scene. March and April unveil spring-like conditions in Dubai, making it an optimal period to explore the city. It's an ideal time for outdoor enthusiasts to revel in various activities and relish the inviting sea, offering just the right temperature for a refreshing swim.

summer in barcelona

Dubai in Summer

Summer is long and hot in Dubai and extends from June to August. The days are long with more than 13 hours of sunlight, and you can venture out comfortably in the early mornings and late evenings for outdoor activities. This is the best time in Dubai to visit attractions and theme parks as it is the low tourist season and you won’t experience too many crowds.

autumn in barcelona

Dubai in Autumn

In Dubai, September and October signal the arrival of autumn, albeit in a unique way. Unlike other parts of the world where autumn is marked by vibrant foliage, Dubai experiences a welcome drop in temperature as summer's scorching heat recedes. This change invites residents and visitors alike to venture outdoors once more. Additionally, autumn in the city brings a flurry of cultural events, adding an extra layer of excitement to the vibrant atmosphere.

winter in barcelona

The Best Time to Visit Dubai

SD › Dubai Best Time to Visit Updated: June 2, 2021 By Santorini Dave

  • Where to Stay in Dubai

The best time to go to Dubai for good weather.

The best time to visit Dubai is from November to April.

When is the best time to visit Dubai?

  • Best Time for Cheaper Hotel Rates : Accommodation rates are at their lowest during the summer, when temperatures are sizzling and it’s far too hot to enjoy the outdoors. To attract more visitors, many hotels offer excellent deals, including reduced rates and sometimes even free meals at their onsite restaurants. The most expensive time to go is between December and February, when rates peak and the best Dubai hotels and best Dubai hotels for families are fully booked months in advance.
  • Best Time for Sightseeing : If you’re looking for the ideal combination of fewer crowds and pleasant weather, the best time for sightseeing in Dubai is between mid-November and early December, and again during the first half of March. While you’re likely to enjoy comfortable temperatures throughout the winter months, visiting from December through February is the peak of high season, when lines tend to be very long and the crowds are often thick, especially during January and early February due to the Dubai Shopping Festival. The worst time for sightseeing is in the summer, and particularly July and August, when the entire city practically goes into hibernation to avoid the unbearable heat. At that time, it’s far too hot to spend more than a few minutes outdoors.
  • Best Time to Visit Burj Khalifa : Dubai’s most popular attraction provides the opportunity to experience “At The Top,” the highest viewing platform in the world. During the winter months, the lines can be very long, especially just before sunset, the most popular time to visit – if you have a good camera, you can capture the city during the day, at sunset, and at night, with the endless sparkling lights below. To avoid the biggest crowds and longest lines, visit Burj Khalifa during the summer months. If that’s not an option, your best bet is to purchase your ticket online, two to four weeks in advance. But keep in mind that during the high season, even with ticket in hand, you’ll have to wait in line for a while at the entrance, so it’s important to come at least an hour before sunset to catch it; for example, if sunset is at 7pm, purchase your ticket for the 5:30-6pm entrance slot. Once you’re there, you can stay as long as you’d like.
  • Best Time for Shopping : Dubai is a shopper’s paradise, but even more so during the month of January when the Dubai Shopping Festival is held. You’ll enjoy significant discounts – as much as 75%, on just about every item imaginable, including electronics, jewelry, fashion and more. Even at the Outlet Mall, where retails already offer discounted items year-round, you’ll find additional markdowns during this shopping extravaganza. The next best time for shopping is during DSS, Dubai Summer Surprises, when a wide range of retailers offer special promotions and discounts for 45 days starting in mid-July.
  • Best Time for Enjoying the Beaches : While it’s possible to go to the beach year-round in Dubai, most people feel it’s too chilly to take a dip in the sea during the winter months. In the summer, the opposite is true, with the intense sun and scorching hot sand making it the worst time to go, particularly in July and August. If you’d like to enjoy swimming in the Arabian Sea and perhaps working on your tan, the best time to visit Dubai’s beaches is in April or May, when the sea temperature hovers around a very comfortable 25°C to 28°C.

Dubai Travel Seasons

  • High Season (November through April) : From late autumn through early spring, accommodation rates are at their highest and the crowds are at their peak, but you’ll enjoy beautiful weather that’s ideal for a variety of outdoor entertainment. During this time, the days bring lots of sunshine and bright blue skies, with slightly cooler evenings as a gentle wind, and only occasional rain, hits the city. The ideal conditions allow visitors to enjoy Dubai’s many outdoor activities, like picnics and lounging on the beach, embarking on desert safaris and strolling through the city.
  • Shoulder Season (May, September and October) : May is the start of the summer in Dubai and sees temperatures ranging from 23 to 36 degrees Celsius, so it will be hot, although not nearly hot as it will be during the peak of summer’s heat in July and August. With sea temperatures around 28°C, this is a perfect time for swimming and you’re less likely to have to battle the crowds to enjoy it. While accommodation rates won’t be significantly lower than high season, there are more bargains to be found. As autumn approaches, temperatures begin to cool. Although it’s generally too hot and sticky during the day in September, it’s often ideal for heading to the beach in the late afternoon. By October, people begin enjoying things like al fresco dining with more reasonable average temperatures hovering around 29°C.
  • Low Season (June through August) : Low season is summertime in Dubai. By June, temperatures begin to become rather unpleasant, with high levels of humidity, while July and August are downright scorching, verging on the unbearable level with temperatures that hit the high 40s at their peak. During this period, while you might find reduced rates and special deals, much of your time is likely to be spent rushing between air-conditioned buildings – the beach is a place only for the very brave, or those that don’t mind getting up in the wee hours of the morning. During the month of Ramadan, which usually takes place for 30 days during the summer, with the exact dates dependent on the year (between June 7 and July 6 in 2016, and from May 27 to June 25 in 2017), even if you aren’t fasting, eating, drinking and smoking in public is strictly banned during daylight hours and many cafés or restaurants close during the day. Unless you’re looking to experience a more traditional setting, you may want to avoid this period – even during the evening things are rather subdued, as this is not a time for revelry, though hotels may offer great discounts in order to attract more visitors.

Dubai Weather by Month

  • Dubai Weather in January : Although January is the coldest month in Dubai, to many people, it will feel like a warm summer day at home, with temperatures averaging 19°C to 20°C, and sometimes as high as 23°C in the afternoon. While those coming from a similarly warm climate will find it too chilly for swimming at the beach, you’ll likely see many people from places like Russia or the United Kingdom enjoying a dip in the sea. Either way, bring your bathing suit as most hotel have heated pools. Summer clothing is generally appropriate year-round, though women should plan to dress more modestly in the city, and especially when going into a mosque, where shoulders and knees need to be covered. You may want a light sweater for the slightly chillier evenings, though you may not need it. Rain is rarely a concern in January, with the most precipitation coming down in the autumn months, though occasionally inclement weather can hit, especially during the second half of the month, but on average just 10mm falls over six days. Rather than an umbrella, you’ll most likely need sunglasses and sunscreen as the sun shines brightly for an average of eight hours a day. (Average Max Temperature: 23°C. Average Precipitation: 10mm.)
  • Dubai Weather in February : The temperature begins to gradually rise in February, with the high creeping up to 24°C, though temperatures of 30°C and even higher are not unheard of this month. While rainfall increases a bit to an average of 40mm over four days, it’s most likely to come toward the end of the month and is unlikely to put a damper on your plans. The sea temperature remains a pleasant 21°C, which again, may or may not be warm enough for a swim, depending on what you’re used to, but bring a bathing suit just in case – if you don’t use it at the beach, you’ll probably use it at your hotel swimming pool. When it comes to other clothing, pack as you would for January and you’ll be well-prepared. (Average Max Temperature: 24°C. Average Precipitation: 40mm.)
  • Dubai Weather in March : With the arrival of spring in March, temperatures noticeably climb. Highs increase three degrees to 27°C this month, and the chance for rain lessens too, with just 10mm falling over six days. Now you’ll enjoy near-perfect beach weather, and with the sea temperature increasing a degree to 22°C, there’s a better chance you’ll find it comfortable enough for a swim. Unless you plan on dining at a swanky restaurant, you could spend your entire time in shorts and a t-shirt, or a bathing suit, though that should be saved for the beach or the pool. The most essential items to bring now become sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, to keep yourself protected from the searing sun that shines nine hours a day. Those days are getting longer now too, with sunset at the end of March about an hour later than it was on January 1, dipping below the horizon a little after 6:30pm. (Average Max Temperature: 24°C. Average Precipitation: 10mm.)
  • Dubai Weather in April : If it didn’t feel like summer already, it will now, and a very hot one at that. This month the temperature rises to an average high of 32°C, though temperatures as high as 40°C have been recorded in April. The month only sees an average of 10mm of rainfall over two days, which means precipitation is very unlikely. Dubai’s high temperatures and intense sun that shines 10 hours a day can quickly lead to a sunburn. Sunbathing for long periods is usually not advisable; instead, you’ll need to slather on high SPF sunscreen and wear a wide-brimmed hat if you plan to be outside for long. The clear, bright skies bring glaring light, so strong UV-filtered sunglasses are a must, though you may want to pick up a pair while you’re in Dubai as even the designer brands are relatively cheap. With the sea temperature at a very comfortable 25°C, this is a great time for going swimming at the beach. (Average Max Temperature: 32°C. Average Precipitation: 10mm.)
  • Dubai Weather in May : May brings the start of the summer heat, with high temperatures at a sizzling 37°C, and occasionally exceeding 42°C. Lows range from 24°C to 27°C, so it will feel fairly warm in the evening too. The chance for rain this month is very slim – in fact, it’s fairly common not to see any clouds at all. The sun shines intensely for 11 hours, and stays up until just after 7pm by month’s end. When it comes to packing, think loose, long linens and cottons that will help protect the skin while allowing it to breathe, in addition to being respectful of the local culture and Muslim religion. It may be too hot now for some people to enjoy a day at the beach, but if you go, be sure to drink lots of water, apply plenty of sunscreen and stay cool by taking regular dips in the sea. (Average Max Temperature: 37°C. Average Precipitation: less than 10mm.)
  • Dubai Weather in June : Now in the heart of the hot season, June brings average temperatures around 33°C, with the mercury rising to 38°C, and sometimes as high as 43°C afternoon. Just like last month, precipitation is very rare in June, and as the sea temperature is even hotter, at an average of 31°C, you won’t get much relief there either. Expect to spend most of your time indoors – and keep in mind that as hotels and shopping malls are typically air-conditioned to the point of freezing, so you’ll actually need a light jacket to avoid a chill. Bring loose, long linens and cottons for those brief periods you will be outdoors. As the sun shines so intensely, for 12 hours a day, you’ll still need sunscreen to avoid a burn, even if you aren’t in it that long. If you plan to spend time at the pool, you’ll want some sandals or flip-flops to avoid burning your feet on the hot tiles. (Average Max Temperature: 38°C. Average Precipitation: less than 10mm.)
  • Dubai Weather in July : July is one of the two hottest months in Dubai, with the average high temperature at a sizzling 40°C, and again virtually nothing in the way of rain with just a 1% chance of precipitation this month. Even the sea feels hot now, hovering around 32°C. And, as the overnight low averages around 29°C, it’s quite warm after sunset as well, which is a little after 7pm throughout most of July. Pack as you would for June, with a sweater for the chilly, air-conditioned indoors; light, loose clothing along with sunglasses and sunscreen for those short periods you’ll be outside, as well as a bathing suit and sandals for the pool. (Average Max Temperature: 40°C. Average Precipitation: less than 10mm.)
  • Dubai Weather in August : August is similar to July, only it’s even hotter, with the average high now a whopping 41°C. The overnight low is even hot at 30°C. While spending time outdoors is downright unbearable, if you’re here during the summer, many of the hotels offer great deals, and some even throw in free meals at onsite restaurants. Going for a swim in the sea won’t help cool you off, as it’s around 33°C, and going to the beach is generally a bad idea, unless you visit in the middle of the night. While a visit in August doesn’t sound very pleasant, keep in mind that Dubai is prepared for the heat and moves everything indoors, so you’ll still find plenty to do. (Average Max Temperature: 41°C. Average Precipitation: less than 10mm.)
  • Dubai Weather in September : Dubai finally begins to cool down in September, if ever so slightly. It will still be hot, but the average high falls three degrees to 38°C, and lows are a more comfortable 27°C on average. There is still little chance for rainfall, as with July and August, it rains only 1% of the time. As September progresses, the day gets shorter, with sunset a little after 6pm by month’s end. Prepare for the heat by packing as you would for the previous two months, as it will still feel very hot and humid, particularly during the early part of September, making it uncomfortable to be outside for any length of time. During the second half of the month, people do begin to emerge from hibernation and venture outdoors a bit. (Average Max Temperature: 38°C. Average Precipitation: less than 10mm.)
  • Dubai Weather in October : While October is still hot, with average highs of 35°C, you may be able to enjoy al fresco dining in relative comfort, and a jaunt to the sea for a swim now feels enjoyable with the water temperature cooling a bit to 30°C. You’ll still want to pack as you would for the summer, with plenty of light, loose cotton or linen clothing, a bathing suit and full-on sun protection. This month, the sun shines for 10 hours a day, and there is still little to nothing when it comes to precipitation. (Average Max Temperature: 35°C. Average Precipitation: less than 10mm.)
  • Dubai Weather in November : November usually brings much-wanted relief from the heat, with temperatures averaging around 25°C, and the high falling to 31°C, four degrees lower than last month. At this time of year, you might even see some clouds finally creeping into the almost always bright blue skies, though rainfall is still rare, with just 10mm of precipitation coming down over one day in November. While the crowds, and accommodation rates, begin to increase, many feel that this is a wonderful time to be in Dubai. While you’ll still need all of your summer gear, along with a sweater for the air-conditioned indoors, you’ll be able to spend a lot more time outside than you would during the hot summer months, including pleasant afternoons at the beach. (Average Max Temperature: 31°C. Average Precipitation: 10mm.)
  • Dubai Weather in December : December also brings lovely weather. Temperatures continue to decrease, averaging a pleasant 21°C, with highs a comfortable 26°C. While rainfall increases to 20mm over four days, it’s still quite low, with most coming down at the end of the month. As low temperatures are in the upper teens, you will need a light sweater and/or long-sleeved shirts for cooler evenings. The weather offers the perfect setting for beaches and outdoor entertainment, but with sea temperatures now dipping to 23°C, the water may be too chilly for a dip for some. As December brings eight hours of sunshine, you won’t want to forget the sunglasses, even though it’s now the middle of winter. (Average Max Temperature: 26°C. Average Precipitation: 20mm.)

It may fall anytime between April and August depending on the year, with 2016’s Ramadan observed between June 6 and July 5. It has a profound effect on daily life in Dubai, and it’s the one time of year when visitors can really get the sense of being in an essentially Muslim city, so you may want to consider this when making your plans. Muslims are required to fast between dawn and dusk, and as a tourist, you’ll be expected to publicly observe this as well, although you can eat and drink in the privacy of your hotel room, or in one of the carefully screened-off dining areas found in hotels throughout the city. Alcohol may be served discreetly in some places after dark, but never during the day. Eating, drinking, chewing gum, smoking, dancing, singing and swearing in public are all considerable offenses to local Muslims. Live music is strictly forbidden throughout the holy month, and the city’s nightclubs close for the duration.

Hi, I went to Dubai during the mid of November. Since the festive season hadn’t started, the rush experienced was less but the offers and discounts were all started at the most of the shopping malls in Dubai. We mainly visited at the Mall of the Emirates and it was fun shopping there.

Great. Thanks for the feedback.

What is the best time (best month) to visit Dubai for families? We’re a family of 5 and looking for a beach holiday with some shopping and activities. Thanks, Gwen.

November to March is the most comfortable for anything outdoors – but you can be hit with some rain. If you primarily want beach weather then October, November, April, and May are best (though early October and late May will be hot).

Flying taxis will cut travel time between Abu Dhabi and Dubai to just 30 minutes, industry experts said, while highlighting the UAE being at the forefront of the urban mobility revolution.

Joby Aviation, a US-based company developing electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for commercial passenger service, is expected to start operations of air taxis by 2025 or early 2026.

“Our aircraft will be able to fly between Abu Dhabi and Dubai in 30 to 35 minutes,” an executive from Joby Aviation told Khaleej Times during DRIFTx – the world’s only smart and autonomous mobility and transport event – held at the iconic Yas Marina Circuit.

JoeBen Bevirt, CEO of Joby Aviation, during a panel discussion, noted that the momentum seen in the UAE regarding creating infrastructure and certifying autonomous aircraft has been fantastic.

“The UAE has been able to expedite moves on building critical infrastructure,” Bevirt said and underlined that safety and noise control have been key considerations for Joby Aviation.

In February, Joby Aviation announced a signing agreement with Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) to launch air taxi services in the Emirate by early 2026.

Other companies like eVTOL developer Archer Aviation and UAE’s aviation services operator Falcon Aviation have already announced plans to develop vertiport infrastructure for critical locations in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Also, both Joby and Archer have signed up for Abu Dhabi's Smart and Autonomous Vehicle Industry (SAVI) cluster established by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO).

During DRIFTx, Archer announced the signing of a framework agreement to accelerate planned commercial air taxi operations in the UAE, slated to launch as soon as next year with its Midnight aircraft.

Key components of Archer’s collaboration with ADIO include vertiport construction, operational enablement for air taxi operations in the UAE, and in-country manufacturing of Midnight aircraft. Under the agreement, ADIO will ensure local workforce development programmes for Emirati talent and facilitate the establishment of Archer’s international headquarters and centre of excellence in Abu Dhabi.

“This substantial agreement with Abu Dhabi is a pivotal moment for Archer’s commercialisation efforts across the Emirates, as it provides the catalyst to accelerate the launch of our electric air taxi service in the UAE as soon as late 2025,” said Archer founder and CEO Adam Goldstein.

Meanwhile, visitors to the DRIFTx were treated to what the future holds. There were Automated Rapid Transit (ART), TAXI self-driving taxis sporting the new livery, and driverless minibus to ferry visitors from one end to another. In between, visitors could check out the sea, air, and land demos of different innovative solutions in action. Once inside the exhibition area, top global companies showcased prototypes of flying taxis, driverless cars, drones, and several innovative systems, including visitors partaking in a real-time streaming demo of driving on the streets of South Korea.
