Hola, como están. Más que una pregunta es una curiosidad que tengo, quería saber si es verdad que Tom Cruise usa zapatos especiales que le ayudan a ganar unos centímetros, ya que en las películas no se le ve tan pequeño y no pareciera de la estatura que dicen que tiene.

Pues no lo hemos medido pero así a ojo muy alto no es que parezca por lo que, fabulando un poco, sí podría llevar lo de los “zapatos especiales”. Seguramente no llegue al 1’70 si es que llega al 1’65.

Eso de calzar alzas no es nada nuevo en el cine. Según se rumoreaba Alan Ladd también lucía calzados especiales en muchas ocasiones. Incluso el gran Humphrey Bogart, que pasaba holgadamente del 1’70, se dice que llevaba alzas en “Casablanca” para estar a la altura de Ingrid Bergman. Es que claro, esta espléndida actriz sueca casi llegaba al 1’80.

“Vendemos online zapatos con alzas. Los llevan Mick Jagger y Tom Cruise”, Antonio Fagundo (Masaltos)

La tienda física se montó en 1993: “El marido de mi madre tuvo una lesión jugando al tenis y para curarse le mandaron unos zapatos ortopédicos, en aquel momento era feo. Trabajaba en Alemania y se compró allí unos zapatos con el tacón más elevado. Como no es especialmente alto le gustó mucho la idea. Cuando se vuelve a España y empieza con mi madre deciden montar el negocio”. En sus años en Alemania había conocido las páginas web y decidió crear una: “Nos metimos en internet en 1994 con un nombre de dominio, en aquel momento la empresa se llamaba Splash Ibérica. La verdad es que lo de internet en aquel momento era algo muy embrionario. Somos la empresa más antigua de Andalucía en Internet. La primera empresa privada de España con un nombre de dominio propio es de diciembre del 92, la nuestra de marzo del 94. En aquel momento registrar nombre de dominio en un servidor, con la cantidad de recursos que se necesitaba, costaba 1,5 millones de pesetas (unos 15.000 euros)”.

Con el paso del tiempo cambiaron el nombre a Masaltos, mucho más fácil de pronunciar para el público extranjero y afín al espíritu de su empresa. En 2010 Antonio, que trabajaba como abogado, se incorpora a trabajar en la empresa a petición de sus padres: “Yo siempre digo que nosotros no vendemos zapatos como tal, sino que vendemos sueños. Que la gente quiere ser más alta no lo digo yo, lo dicen muchos estudios. Recuerdo una vez en una entrevista a Fernando Alonso, que acababa de ganar el Mundial de Fórmula 1, que le preguntaron qué es lo que le faltaba por conseguir, y dijo que quería ser más alto. Hay gente como Mick Jagger , Lorenzo Caprile, Sarkozy, los zapatos de Tom Cruz que reconoce públicamente que son clientes”.

Sólo tienen una tienda en Sevilla física en Sevilla. “El 95% por ciento de nuestras ventas son online, y en concreto la venta a extranjeros suponen el 70%”, comenta Antonio: “Gracias a Internet y gracias a que tenemos también un equipo internacional que atiende al público en 9 idiomas. No sólo el hecho de que la web esté en 9 idiomas, sino que te pueden llamar por teléfono desde Rusia y te responde al teléfono un ruso de Rusia, no un inglés con un ruso random. Y la verdad es que genera mucha confianza”. El confinamiento debido al Coronavirus provocó que sus ventas cayeran en un primer momento: “Si mal no recuerdo, creo que Italia decretó el estado de alarma una semana o dos antes que nosotros. Y Portugal creo que es la semana antes o unos días antes. Lo más curioso es que durante los tres meses de confinamiento los países en los que más vendimos fueron el primero Italia, donde no se podía salir a la calle, y el segundo era Portugal. Es algo que no entenderemos. A partir de junio, que empezamos a sacar la calle, la cosa repunta, la gente consume en la calle y quiere volver a ser más alta”. Como curiosidad Antonio apunta que España es el segundo país de Europa en producción de zapatos normales y de lujo después Italia.

Antonio Fagundo gusta de incorporar nuevas tecnologías en su eCommerce, como el pago vía Bizum: “El pago por Bizum es maravilloso. Con un simple teléfono le envías el dinero a otra persona sin tener que pasar por el banco, sin pasar a comisiones. Creo que es súper cómodo. También hace tiempo implementamos el pago con una criptomoneda, con bitcoins. Entre tú y yo, Masaltos.com no ha vendido aún un zapato con criptomonedas, pero yo sí creo que no tardaremos mucho, en 3 o 4 años se empezará a utilizarla de forma más masiva, porque puedes mover dinero de un país a otro con rapidez, no como hacer una transferencia a Estados Unidos o a Japón que tarda un montón”.

En 2018 empezó a contactar con empresas en España que ofrecían financiación online y lo implementó en su tienda online. “Tú puedes comprar unos zapatos con alzas, nosotros entregamos en 24 horas. Que te quedan bien, te los quedas y dentro de una semana me los pagas. ¿Que no te gustan y te quedan mal? Me los devuelves y no los pagas”. El proceso de verificación de la tarjeta del cliente son sólo dos segundos gracias a la Inteligencia Artificial: “Tú pagas el zapato en 3 meses, en 6, 9 o 12. Entonces no es lo mismo meter 200 € en un carrito de compra que meter 26. ¿Por qué? Porque la gente cuando va a pagar 26 euros en un carrito de compra habitualmente le echa algo más. Y luego paga 34.

“Yo creo que la formación es fundamental”, añade Antonio: “Yo creo que las grandes fortunas proliferan a partir de los 40 y pico años. Y eso es porque la gente que dirige estas empresas no ha parado nunca de formarse y de aprender, y eso requiere constancia. No es solamente venga, vale, me formo, hago un Máster hace diez años y paro. Todo evoluciona súper rápido y cambia rápido dentro de internet, y el marketing online más. Dedica un tiempo a leer, da igual que sea un artículo o un blog, algún tipo de curso, conferencia o webinario. Conoce gente que aporte. Si no, de verdad que te quedas anquilosado. Así que animo a todo el mundo a que se forme” .

After the success of Top Gun: Maverick , which came close to an Oscar, Tom Cruise recently hinted that he had considered the role of Iron Man in the past. Would he have sported a pair of equally iconic sunglasses?

Well, because in Tom Cruise's movies, sunglasses have often been the protagonists of a captivating and daring style – just like the characters he portrays. By the mid-90s, the actor became one of the most beloved and acclaimed in Hollywood, inspiring the style of generations of fans.

At TBDE, we tried to match a pair of Made in Italy sunglasses with some of the actor's most beautiful films. 

Top Gun, 1986: aviator sunglasses that make you fly

To convince Tom Cruise to film Top Gun in '86, the actor was taken on a plane with the Blue Angels Navy, who made him experience rolls and spins. It seems that he quickly got into the role of Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a highly skilled pilot with an indomitable character. Leather jackets, bombers, t-shirts, and jeans dominate here. Tom Cruise aparece con un reloj Rolex que todos desearíamos tener

Tom Cruise es un hombre de conmoción y euforia, sus escenas de acción —realizadas por el mismo— en Top Gun y Misión Imposible lo demuestran. Pero recientemente lo llevó al siguiente nivel, cuando sorprendió a sus fans. Mientras un grupo de cinéfilos se preparaban para ver Dead Reckoning en un cine de Atlanta, Georgia, Christophe McQuarrie, el director de la película, y Tom Cruise irrumpieron para añadir un toque de emoción a la proyección. Por supuesto, la entrada triunfal del protagonista de una de las mejores sagas de Hollywood —posiblemente la mejor— estuvo acompañada de elementos muy especiales —uno en particular posee el potencial de despertar la envidia de cualquier coleccionista—.

Para asistir a la proyección, el actor eligió un atuendo bastante discreto, vistiendo su ya habitual camisa polo de lana (¿o cachemira?) azul cielo, jeans y zapatos negros. Y aunque, naturalmente, el público enloqueció al ver a los dos hombres, sobre todo a Tom Cruise , lo que realmente nos emocionó a algunos de los aficionados a la horología fue su reluciente compañero de muñeca. Y es que el actor de 61 años recurrió un reloj digno de un héroe de acción. Entusiasta de la relojería, Tom Cruise ha cambiado varias veces de reloj en las últimas semanas, mientras aparecía en los preestrenos de Misión: Imposible 7 .

Una pieza con gran historia

En Nueva York y Seúl, Tom Cruise eligió un Cartier Santos de gran tamaño —un símbolo de elegancia clásica fabricado con acero inoxidable—, mientras que en Australia optó por un Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin, cuya esfera azulada deslumbraría incluso al coleccionista más exigente. Sin embargo, en esta ocasión, la estrella de Top Gun llevó su gran pasión relojera por el camino de los clásicos, optando por un Rolex que todo hombre desearía tener en su arsenal: el Cosmograph Daytona . En concreto, es difícil precisar si se trata del modelo que la Corona presentó en marzo de 2023, durante la feria de Watches and Wonders o de una referencia similar que se lanzó algunas semanas atrás para celebrar el 24 Horas de Le Mans . Y aunque Tom Cruise posee una gran colección de relojes con más de un modelo Rolex en el arsenal, esta pieza es especial.

¿La razón? Este modelo es un homenaje a las carreras de resistencia, ya que el encuentro 24 Horas de Le Mans (que se realiza en Florida) es toda una institución en el mundo del automovilismo. Y que comparte bastante con el actor Tom Cruise , un hombre al que se puede calificar de perdurable si nos fijamos en su filmografía y en la forma olímpica que mantiene.

El reloj que rodea su muñeca es un Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona de acero Oystersteel , caja de 40 mm, con esfera blanca, brazalete Oyster de acero, bisel de cerámica (Cerachrom negro), correa Oyster negra, y escala taquimétrica (utilizada para calcular la velocidad media, generalmente en kilómetros por hora, en una distancia determinada). En realidad, este Daytona es un clásico de Rolex , que se vende por 16,350 dólares y aunque es un precio elevado, es una cantidad razonable para semejante institución relojera —aunque si eres un fan de la horología, no necesitamos mencionarlo, eso tú ya lo sabes—. Siempre que se pueda encontrar en tienda, lo que no es nada fácil.
