Islamabad is the capital of lovely Pakistan and, without a doubt, the most gorgeous city in the world. Islamabad has something unique for everyone, from the lush Margalla hills to the colorful markets of the F6 sector. It is the 9th largest city in Pakistan with a population of about 1.2 million. There are numerous activities to do and many lovely sites to see in Islamabad, so you won’t ever be bored while visiting. There are many best places to visit in Islamabad but the following places are worth checking out if you want to visit the capital city.

The Faisal Mosque is a famous site in Islamabad. It is the most magnificent mosque not only in Pakistan but also in the world. A Turkish architect created this mosque. Faisal Mosque is one of South Asia’s largest mosques, with a capacity of 300,000 people. It is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Islamabad. The mosque is surrounded by mountains and gorgeous green gardens. It is also a famous tourist destination due to its unique and outstanding design.

2. Margalla Hills

The Margalla Hills are a range of Himalayas located in northern Pakistan. It is one of the best places to visit in Islamabad and a great destination point for adventures, visitors, and locals. The hills are covered in lush green vegetation and are home to a variety of wildlife. These hills offer stunning views of the city and are a popular spot for hikers. There are many hiking trails so one can enjoy hiking in the natural environment. The trails are well-maintained and offer a peaceful escape from the hustle and busy life of the city.

3. Pakistan Monument

The Pakistan Monument is a heritage museum located at the western Shakar Parian hills and is considered a national museum of Pakistan. It was constructed to show the unity of Pakistani People. 8. Centaurus Mall

The Centaurus Mall is one of the largest malls in Pakistan. Centaurus Mall building has a modern design and looks very beautiful. As the trip or vacation is not completed without shopping if you want to do some shopping go to Centaurus Mall. As usual, this Mall offers a variety of shops of national and international brands and entertainment venues. Visitors can also enjoy food because there is also a food court which has many restaurants.

Shakarparian Park is a national park located in the hills of Islamabad. The park is home to a variety of wildlife animals and birds. The park has green lush land and a pine tree garden which gives a unique experience. It is a beautiful spot to spend time with friends and family. Visitors can also enjoy activities such as hiking, camping, and bird-watching.

The Bruti Waterfall is a famous waterfall located in the Matgalla hills of Islamabad and is also a famous tourist attraction in Islamabad. Bruti waterfall has a lush blue pure water which gives a fresh vibe to mind. In the summer season, this place is a great attraction for visitors due to the hot weather visitors can enjoy cool fresh water and release stress from their minds. People are also allowed to take a bath in this waterfall which gives a unique experience.

There is also a hiking trek for people which starts from behind the Bari Imam Shrine and ends at the mountains close to Pir Sohawa Road.

Traveling to Islamabad, Pakistan soon? I used to find it bland, but after living there for months, I’ve learned of all kinds of things to do in Islamabad.

To be honest, Islamabad used to bore me. Unlike the rest of Pakistan, Islamabad is orderly, clean, quiet, and… well, dull? If you’re traveling in Pakistan , Islamabad is a likely first stop, but it isn’t exactly the most thrilling destination. Years ago, if you asked me about things to do in Islamabad, I would come up blank. Or procure a snide comment or two about how thrilling the capital wasn’t.

…  but as my Pakistan women’s tours and motorcycle tours picked up steam, I found myself spending months in Islamabad in and around the tours. And, dare I say, I’ve learned to love the city. Just a bit.

There are a lot of things to do in Islamabad if you’re willing to look, especially if you’re fond of the outdoors. Clean, green Islamabad is heaven for those who need a bit of fresh air while traveling in Pakistan… but even if you’re not the hiking type, we’ll still find something for you to do there! Best things to do in Islamabad: see the evening call to prayer at Faisal Mosque

Another one of the best sunset spots in Islamabad: Faisal Mosque. The massive  masjid  is a stark contrast to mosques elsewhere in Islamabad; its futuristic white design evokes ideas of a nomadic bedouin tent, rather than a Mughal monument. Not a surprise, considering it was funded by a Saudi king. Contrast aside, the mosque is beautiful when it lights up at sunset with the Margalla Hills as a backdrop, and the call to prayer rings out over the air. You can join crowds of worshippers going inside for the sunset maghrib  prayer. Don’t miss it; visitors are not allowed inside the actual mosque outside of prayer times.

Feast on street food at Melody Food Park

Islamabad is more limited than other Pakistani cities when it comes to street food, but Melody Food Park in the G6 markaz is one place where you can fill your belly without emptying your wallet. From fresh juices to fried samosas to steaming plates of pulao topped with kebabs, you can find almost any food your heart desires if you look long enough in Melody Food Park. It’s one of my favorite places for cheap food in Islamabad!

Best things to do in Islamabad: take a day to explore the streets of old Rawalpindi

Dive into the depths of old Rawalpindi (AKA Pindi)

Rawalpindi has my heart, and deserves far more than a single spot on a list of the best things to do in Islamabad… but, for now, this must do! The sister city of Islamabad is older, busier, and dirtier than the capital, but within its depths lie a treasure trove of historic buildings, fantastic façades, and religious centers waiting for curious visitors. I’ve spent weeks roaming around in the old center of Rawalpindi, and learn something new every time I visit.

Save yourself the traffic hassle and take the Metro Bus from Islamabad into the center of Rawalpindi; Waris Khan station is a good starting point. From there, wander your heart out. If you prefer to have a bit more guidance—and a  lot  more history and context—my friend Hassan runs fantastic walking tours of Rawalpindi that highlight places I’m positive you’ll never find on your own. Pro tip: If you don’t have time to travel to Lahore , Rawalpindi’s old city is a very good substitute!

Have chai in the hills above Islamabad

Monal restaurant is famous for its views over Islamabad… but it’s expensive, crowded, and cliche in my opinion! My favorite place to enjoy a snack and some chai with a view is a small dhaba across from the Isloo Grill restaurant. It’ll be on your right when heading past Monal toward Pir Sohawa. Chai is cheap, the view is great, several hiking trails start from the area, and there’s a man selling most excellent pakoras from a small stall nearby. What more could you ask for?

Get a taste of village life (and religious diversity) in Saidpur Village

Before Islamabad became the capital of Pakistan, the territory was just a collection of small villages up against the hills. The city has since swallowed most of them, but you can still find remainders of village life on the outskirts; Saidpur village is one such spot. A touristic center has been organized at the entrance of the village, but if you wander past it, there’s little to differentiate Saidpur from other rural villages in the region.

That’s not to say that you should skip the tourist area! In its center is a reminder of the religious diversity that used to exist before Partition: a Sikh gurdwara, Hindu temple, and Islamic mosque sitting side by side. It can’t get more South Asian than that!

Shop for secondhand everything and anything in the Itwar Bazaar

If you love thrifting—or just want to see the closest thing Islamabad has to a “bustling bazaar”—the Itwar Bazaar is right up your alley. The name means “Sunday Market”, but it’s actually open on Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

You can find virtually anything both new and old in the market. Ice skates? Check. Grandmotherly tea sets? Check. Chinese leafy greens? Check. I particularly like going there to pick up cheap secondhand clothes and shoes; it saves me money  and  buying secondhand is more sustainable!

Pro tip: If you’re heading up north to the mountains of Pakistan and need more warm clothes, the Itwar Bazaar is a great place to find cheap used jackets, hiking boots, sweaters, and more. Heck, you can even find backpacking backpacks from time to time; just keep searching!

Sip chai into the night at Quetta Tea and Teas

Quetta T&T is  the  place to go for chai without pretention in Islamabad. The renowned dhaba in the center of F10’s markaz serves Islamabad’s best chai 24/7, but the spot really comes alive after night. I’ve spent countless nights with friends chatting over too many cups of doodh patti  (thick milkty tea) or aromatic kawa (green tea) on Quetta Tea’s terrace, picking at stuffed parathas in the meanwhile. If you’re looking for an iconic place to hangout in Islamabad on a budget, Quetta Teas is the place to be.

Go for a hike in the Margalla Hills

The Margalla Hills National Park is, arguably, Islamabad’s greatest asset. The 12,000+ hectare area is a rolling green delight for hikers, bikers, and creatures alike. Dozens of trails crisscross the hills, some more visited than others. There is an official set of numbered trails throughout the hills, but there are plenty of unmarked paths in the region for more experienced hikers. Trail 5 is one of my favorites for starters. Check Google Maps or Maps.me for inspiration in regards to other hiking trails.

Safety note: I recommend heading out in groups when going hiking in the hills. There are a lot of wild animals, including monkeys, leopards, and… men. There have been incidents of assault on women hiking in the hills, so be cautious, and carry sticks with you. Know that mobile signals are not guaranteed in the hills, so let people know where you’re going ahead of time.

Watch the sunset from Pakistan Monument

Built on the spot where—supposedly—it was proclaimed that Islamabad would be the new capital of Pakistan, the lotus-shaped monument represents the unity of Pakistan’s people and its variety of cultures. Though the monument itself doesn’t take much time to appreciate—indeed, it’s hard to on weekends while surrounded by crowds of selfie-takers—the view from the monument over Shakarparian Park and the rest of Islamabad is hard to beat. Make sure to stay a bit after sunset, when the monument lights up for the night!

If you’re looking for offbeat things to do in Islamabad, Golra is a small, regional railway station on the edge of Islamabad (well, technically Golra village). There’s a small railway museum there to peruse at any time of day, but you can sit and be transported back through time as you watch trains pass by in the evening, when the sunlight fades and the station lights come on.

Go for a stroll (or run) in F9 Park

F9 park helps Islamabad breathe. Occupying four square kilometers within the heart of Islamabad, the city’s biggest park contains a web of paths throughout green fields and tree-lined ways. You can spot different flowers in bloom almost year-round, and the park can be positively dreamy at sunrise and sunset. If you need a breath of fresh air while traveling in Islamabad, or just need to get away from noise and chaos for a bit, walking in F9 park is sure to clear your head. It’s the ideal place for travelers looking for active things to do in Islamabad.

Listen to music at Shah Allah Ditta caves

Music isn’t a given at the Shah Allah Ditta caves on the edge of the city, but it’s a likely scene once the weekend comes. You can occasionally find a couple of musicians armed with plenty of Sufi songs and a heaving harmonium stationed under the trees on Saturdays and Sundays. They’re a cheeky lot, and happy to play requests if you have any! Even if they aren’t there, don’t fret; you can still poke around in the caves and enjoy a cup of chai at one of the handful of cafes that have set up shop near the caves.

Best things to do in Islamabad: Chilling out by Rawal Lake on one of my Pakistan motorcycle tours

Chill out next to Rawal Lake

Rawal Lake ain’t just a lake; it’s one of the main water reservoirs for Islamabad! Situated in the southeast of the city, the sprawling man-made lake is a popular sunset spot with families and fishermen alike. (Whether they actually catch anything is another question; I sure haven’t seen anything.) You can go for boat rides, munch on snacks, or enjoy the peace and quiet… if you come early in the morning, that is.

Unfortunately, like many popular natural places in Pakistan, the lakeside is woefully polluted. Do your best to walk a bit further away from parking areas and the trash situation will improve. Slightly.

Devour a desi nashta (local breakfast) at Cheema & Chatta

Desi food is, unfortunately, often forgotten in aspiringly posh Islamabad, but Cheema & Chatta is one place where you can feast on a proper Pakistani breakfast without all the frills. Sink your teeth into the sweet and savory combinations of a traditional halwa puri breakfast with a side of lassi. More adventurous eaters can try a hot plate of  paaye  (stewed goat hoof) with a side of bheja masala  (fried brains). Wash it all down with a hot cup of chai… then go back to sleep. Trust me, you’ll need to.

Rent a motorcycle and head into the hills

To be honest, my love for Islamabad started once I got a motorcycle. (To be even more honest, I think traveling Pakistan by motorcycle is the best way to go, period.) Before I had my own wheels, the city was just a bland grid of attempted culture… but once I started exploring the surroundings by motorcycle, I realized that Islamabad is surrounded by a fantastic amount of natural beauty. Now, I can’t imagine being based anywhere else in Pakistan. Biking around the hills is one of my favorite things to do in Islamabad, any day of the week.

You can easily rent a motorcycle for a day (or a week, or more). Where you go is up to you, but two of my favorite routes are the road to Pir Sohawa that goes past Monal, and the tourist route to the Kotli Sattian area.

The famous landmark consists of four tall spires gleaming from a vantage point.

Margallah hills and daman e koh.

A hilltop known as Margalla Hills and Daman-e-Koh Park are the following fantastic places people mainly choose for hiking. The natural wonders of this park soothe the senses, and people especially organize picnics while enjoying the weather. Different species of birds and monkeys also roam here and there, giving an essence of wildlife to the park. Lush green trees and the view on the horizon add more to the experience.

Pakistan Monument Museum

Shakaparian forest gives place to the Pakistan Monument Museum amid mountains. Representing the nation’s unity and the sacrifice of the devoted people, the museum depicts the country’s history and culture. Constructed on 2.8 hectares of land, the domes of the museum appear magnificent. The short petals-based structure represents the territories of Pakistan.

Shakar Parian National Park 

The next park on the list of most beautiful places in Islamabad is Shakar Parian , National Park. The park is famous for its stunning beauty and natural appeal to visitors. Visitors admire the breathtaking views of the park from every side. Especially at night, the visitors enjoy the idea of the city glistening from a distance. The fountain, greenery, and food stalls make this spot my favorite.

Bahria Enclave Zoo

The place admired by millions of children is the next spot, “Bahria Enclave Zoo”, which provides high-quality based facilities to visitors. Many different exotic animals can be seen through the boundary of cages. Surprisingly, a well-maintained shelter for cats can also be seen here. Other than that, white lions and even elephants are kept to let people enjoy the wildlife from a distance. 

Saidpur Village 

The historical background of Saidpur Village is connected with the Gandhara and Kushan periods. Lastly, the Mughal Empire of the 14th century was gifted by Sajid Khan to his daughter on marrying Babar’s son and received it as a dowry and present. 

It is located on the famous Margalla Hills of the Himalayan Range foothills. It was refurbished in 2006 by the development authorities, which finally gave it the identity of being a gem of arts and crafts. A restaurant named Des Pardes enhances the ambiance and makes it more lively. 

Allah Ditta Caves

Known for many centuries, Allah Ditta Caves, filled with dense trees, is a must to visit delightful places. Although isolated, this is the safest area in Islamabad . The weathered hills give an odd look, but they seem untouched and a natural element of Islamabad that most tourists visit yearly. 

People even encounter mischievous monkeys that can distract you while leaping from trees. Enjoy the different carts offering snacks and take pictures on the way. 

Lok Virsa Museum

By paying a simple fee, you can visit the museum to enjoy the history and culture of the different states of Pakistan. The locals also sell handicrafts and traditional accessories to visitors. Enjoy the horse cart ride and collect memories by clicking pictures of enjoyable memories. There are hangings displaying information about various regions and civilizations. 

National Art Gallery

Pakistan’s first famous national art gallery opened its doors to visitors in 2007. The structure consists of modernistic cubes of bricks that give it a new element of beauty. Situated at an 1800-yard area, the gallery has 14 mini-galleries displaying paintings. Visitors can also visit the library and laboratories. Open-air theatres and auditoriums are also fun places built inside. 

Golra Sharif Railway Museum 

The next museum on the list of the most beautiful places is Golra Sharif Museum, built by the British. Dating back to 1882, the museum tells millions of stories about the history of the railway. If you are a history enthusiast, learning about the historical narratives of Pakistan’s and British Raj period railway would give you new insight. 

Korang River 

Flowing through Murree Hills to Islamabad is the Korang River, which falls into Rawal Lake. The primary location is at Malpur village, where it adds value to the place as a reservoir. Adjoining gardens and picnic spots welcome visitors to spend leisure time with family and friends. 

It is a peaceful environment under the blue sky where groups can organise picnics while eating in the open air. Motorboating and paddle boating is also available for visitors to enjoy the cold water sports. It is a highly recommended place because it is the cheapest area and offers good service.  

Neela Sandh 

A magnificent waterfall, Neela Sandh located on Lehtrar Road in Rawalpindi District. Upon covering the long distance, visitors mainly encounter the rich greenery and the tall trees that cover the entire area. Most people visit the place in scorching summer to stay safe from the overwhelming heat of the summer season. Pure water refreshes the soul, while purity normalizes the body’s temperature. It only takes 40 km to reach the destination. 

Bruti Waterfall 

For nature lovers, the next destination is Bruti Waterfall which is adjoined by turquoise ponds. It is near the Margalla mountains near the tallest waterfall. You can stand under the waterfall and rinse yourself with fresh water or sit near the pond while soaking your feet in the water. The white painted floor of the spot makes it appealing to sit and enjoy the beauty everywhere. There is a limited time to visit the location, so you must check the administration to look for the schedule.

Fatima Jinnah Park

Fatima Jinnah Park, made in the name of the national figure from the history of Pakistan, is the next destination for many. The prepossessing consists of a wildlife sanctuary that gives a fantastic soothing experience to the visitors. The steel fence separates the park from the outer area and footpath, which is safe for walking or jogging. Visitors mainly enjoy different activities in the park with their family and friends. 

Rose and Jasmine Garden 

As the name denotes, this garden is where most flower exhibitions occur.

Its quiet, charming, and attractive environment makes me feel better, and surely you also feel well.

Just think of something, and you will get it in Centaurus Mall of Islamabad; it has a huge multiplex cinema for you to enjoy a movie after shopping and also has a huge food court that provides a menu of Pakistani and International dishes. It has everything for everyone. Just make sure when you visit Islamabad, you should do some shopping in Centaurus Mall to get an experience that you never got in any other mall.

When I decided to explore Islamabad’s best places , I made a list, and visiting PC Bhurban is on it. I chose to visit it because this 5-star hotel is one the best hotels in Islamabad.

This hotel has lavish rooms, and the staff of this hotel is very hospitable. But that’s not the thing it is known for. The best part of this hotel is that it is located in the Bhurban town of Muree, which is well known for its beauty. Its food has a significant taste that is served with perfection.

I enjoyed its spa, gym, and swimming pool which are just a small part of the facilities offered by PC Bhurban. When I visited this hotel, I felt thanked for the pleasant view that I never had before and I hope you are going to enjoy it.

If you ask me, what’s the best place to visit in Islamabad ? Then my answer is Shah Allah Ditta Caves. These belong to the 16th century and are named after saint Shah Allah Ditta. This is a very historic palace, and it has Buddhist impressions on it, but they are not so visible today due to time impact. The main cave actually contains a small beautiful mosque in it which is a very popular mosque among Locals.

I love it because when I first visited these caves, they gave me goosebumps because they were a little haunted inside. But their peaceful environment inspired me to explore them too far inside. This a very popular tourist attraction and a must-visit for those who are interested in seeing beautiful, haunted places that define the history in themselves.

A beautiful and admirable place to visit when You go to Islamabad is Giga Mall which is one of the biggest Malls in Pakistan . I love the thing that this Mall is like a Dubai mall because it not only has local traditional clothes, but it also has international brand shops where people can get what they want. It does not hold back from providing Entertainment to its visitors. 

It has big food courts and a huge multiplex cinema to make their visitors feel relaxed after shopping. The one thing for which I choose Giga Mall as one of the best palaces to visit in Islamabad is because it gives a complete shopping and entertainment experience in one place.

What a fascinating place it is!

The park has lush green gardens covered with different colors of flowers and provides a beautiful view of the lake; it is surely heaven for nature lovers. I first went here with my family, and I am pleased to be here. It is the best palace for picnics to spend quality time with family. When You go there, you see ducks floating gracefully on the lake and fish swimming very peacefully underwater. 

This whole atmosphere of Lake View Park does not give you anything but relaxation and some reason to admire the beauty of nature. Double Decker Sightseeing Buses in Islamabad

The Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) announced that it plans to operate double-decker tour buses in Islamabad and Rawalpindi from the end of this month.

Abdul Ghafour, managing director of PTDC, said in an interview: “PTDC will work with private transportation companies to operate double-decker tour buses in the Twin Cities starting later this month. He added: Initially, schools, tertiary institutions, and university students will receive tourist facilities and special discounts.

On weekends, the bus will take visitors to the Faisal Mosque, Zoo, Rawal Lake, F9 Park, Lok Virsa, Children’s Park and Ayub Park, and Taxila Museum in Rawalpindi.

PTDC agreed with the private sector to provide locally manufactured double-decker buses in a joint venture, and MD-PTDC also agreed.

The bus can accommodate 40 tourists. He said that children under five and the disabled could ride for free. This service aims to promote tourism and attract local and foreign tourists to enjoy the culture and scenery of the Twin Cities.

Both domestic and foreign tourists can take the bus. He said it would also be exciting for people visiting Islamabad from other cities.

These buses will be operated by Punjab Tourism Development Corporation (TDCP).
