Spend the day riding a zip line over the reptiles, going on an off-road adventure complete with singing tour guides or attending a wildlife show. I've Visited All the Theme Parks in Florida — and These Are the Best Ones

These are the best theme parks in Florida, from Disney to Universal and beyond.

travel orlando theme parks

Valerie de Leon/Travel + Leisure

Florida is known for its white-sand beaches, year-round sunny weather, and a collection of some of the world's best theme parks. Here, you can enter the enchanting world of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando or shrink down to the size of a toy at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It’s also the place where coasters take you to new heights at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay and everything is awesome for mini thrill-seekers at Legoland Florida.

I’ve been lucky enough to visit all the parks in the state; here are 10 of the best theme parks in Florida so you can start planning your next trip.

Magic Kingdom

Valerie de Leon/Travel + Leisure

This park set the standard for the Florida theme park industry we know today when it opened in 1971. Today, Magic Kingdom Park bridges the old with the new, inviting guests to relive the tales of childhood and enjoy beloved attractions, like Pirates of the Caribbean. It’s also the home of Disney World's newest ride, TRON Lightcycle/ Run , a thrilling roller coaster.

Magic Kingdom is the park I often find myself returning to again and again, with its picture-perfect Cinderella Castle and the old-timey feel of Main Street, U.S.A. There’s a distinct charm here that hasn’t been replicated, and that feeling of nostalgia is especially palpable in classic attractions like It’s a Small World and Haunted Mansion.

Michela Sieman/Travel + Leisure

EPCOT is a unique park that started as a passionate vision from Walt Disney; its name stands for the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. While it didn’t exactly pan out as he expected it to, it stands alone as one of the very best theme parks in the world , marrying entertainment with education in a world's fair-inspired experience. World Showcase features 11 different countries presenting their cultures through shopping, dining, and attractions. The other half of Epcot sparks imagination and inspiration, with a focus on advances in technology that explore space, time, and the future depicted in one-of-a-kind attractions, like Spaceship Earth and Living With the Land.

It’s my favorite park to dine at, thanks to its year-round restaurants — the very best at Disney World — and acclaimed food festivals. It also shines from season to season, with enchanting holiday décor in the winter and stunning topiaries come spring, offering something new to see visit after visit. Disney movie fans will also find some of the best film-inspired attractions, including high-spirited Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind , one of the longest indoor roller coasters in the world.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Disney’s Hollywood Studios takes the yesteryear glam of Tinseltown and combines it with the biggest films of the modern age, inviting park goers to step into the worlds of these beloved franchises. Without a doubt, its showstopper is the immersive Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge , a pioneering feat of Walt Disney Imagineering. Here, all five senses take an intergalactic journey with otherworldly bites and trailblazing experiences, like the astonishing Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance . And park newcomer, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, is pure family fun.

My very favorite rides at Disney World are here, including The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, known for its unique ride system, and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith. I also enjoy the vibrant Toy Story Land, adorably themed with stellar character interactions and great rides, including all-ages roller coaster Slinky Dog Dash. Its unique dining options have become a family mainstay, like the delightfully quirky Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater, which invites diners into a dimly lit indoor movie theater as they munch on American eats from within retro cars.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Disney World’s most beautiful park is inspired by the company’s devotion to animal conservation; they even tapped legend Jane Goodall to consult on the project’s conception. The park explores vast cultures of the globe, from Africa to Asia, within scenic lands. Its pinnacle, Pandora — The World of Avatar, will impress Avatar film superfans and casual viewers alike. Here, you can find one of Disney World’s best rides , the exhilarating 3D flying simulator attraction, Avatar Flight of Passage.

A visit here isn’t complete without experiencing Kilimanjaro Safaris, which guides riders on a tour of a wildlife reserve with hundreds of majestic creatures. Tapping into its global inspiration, food here is some of the most eclectic and ambitious I’ve found at Disney World.

Universal Studios Florida

Elizabeth Rhodes/Travel + Leisure

Inspired by the greatest moments from entertainment history, Universal Studios Florida is a movie and television-themed park that began as an actual working studio. Several lands pay homage to iconic backlot sets, including San Francisco and New York, and it’s since evolved to include a colorful Minion Land, Simpsons -themed Springfield U.S.A., and an upcoming DreamWorks Land. This is also where muggles can find The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Diagon Alley, one of the most impressive theme park feats of all time.

The Wizarding World here is a real treat, from its Butterbeer ice cream to Harry Potter and the Escape From Gringotts, a 3D indoor roller coaster that captivates with thrills and fun. Potter aside, the park carries a very retro feel maintaining much of the charismatic nature it debuted with in the 1990s. And I hope it never gets rid of the classics, like the E.T. Adventure dark ride and Men in Black Alien Attack. This park is all about the little nuances to me, like roaming characters impersonating Hollywood greats and kitschy entertainment as depicted in Universal’s Horror Make-up Show.

Related: The Complete Guide to Universal Orlando Resort — Including Everything to Know About the Theme Parks, Hotels, and More

Universal Islands of Adventure

A short ride on the Hogwarts Express (or walk to the gate) will take you to Universal Orlando's second theme park, Universal Islands of Adventure. Here, Universal takes its nod to movie magic and adds a serious dose of thrills, most notably in the form of its two best roller coasters, the impeccably themed Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure and the heart-pounding Jurassic World VelociCoaster. You’ll also find a Harry Potter- themed land that transports guests to the snow-capped streets of Hogsmeade and even inside the iconic Hogwarts Castle.

There’s a transportive nature to this park that I just love as I wander from one highly themed land to the next, including the whimsical Seuss Landing. It’s a true day-to-night park that’s easy to navigate, home to incredible rides, and packed with lots of gems, including some of the best restaurants at Universal Orlando .

Legoland Florida

Ricardo Ramirez Buxeda/Orlando Sentinel/Tribune News Service via Getty Images

Themed to the brightly hued bricks, Legoland Florida is the place for the next generation of thrill seekers, home to entry-level roller coasters and kid-friendly attractions. The park's newest attractions include Pirate River Quest, a scenic boat ride through the former Cypress Garden, and Lego Ferrari Build & Race, a hands-on experience like no other. And park goers ages five and under can visit the first-ever Peppa Pig Theme Park, centered around the beloved British cartoon character.

While the attractions may focus on younger guests, this is really a park for everyone. I could spend hours exploring Miniland and its large-scale Lego structures portraying iconic cities around the globe. The park’s signature apple fries are worth a visit alone. And with several on-site resorts, a water park, and two theme parks, it’s become a bona fide destination.

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay

Nik Wheeler/Corbis via Getty Images

Home to over 50 attractions, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is an animal-focused theme park with an emphasis on pushing boundaries. Here, you’ll find the tallest and fastest inverted roller coaster in the world, Montu, as well as the area’s largest zoo, with over 200 animal species. One of its newest coasters is the adrenaline-pumping Iron Gwazi which ascends 206 feet in the air and reaches speeds of up to 76 miles per hour.

While Disney festivals get all the attention, this park's award-winning Food & Wine Festival is reason alone to visit and wows me with globally inspired bites and live entertainment.

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon

Courtesy of Disney World

Find quintessential Disney storytelling at Typhoon Lagoon, one of Disney World’s two water parks. There’s a rich backstory as you visit a former tropical paradise that’s been wrecked by a typhoon. It’s a delightful mix of approachable thrills and family fun, as evident with Miss Adventure Falls, an immersive whitewater family attraction. And you’ll feel a world away from Magic Kingdom as you float Castaway Creek, an over 2,000-foot-long lazy river.

There’s an effortless, relaxed vibe at Typhoon Lagoon, and although the slides are great, the highlight for me is North America’s largest wave pool set against a towering mountain. Snacks abound, including delicious Caribbean-inspired bites and even the famous Dole Whip.

Related: Disney Water Park Guide: What to Know About Typhoon Lagoon vs. Blizzard Beach

Universal’s Volcano Bay

Universal Creative took its excellence in theme park design and applied it to the world of water parks for the first-of-its-kind Volcano Bay. The park is 25 acres of pure South Pacific-inspired paradise centered around a 200-foot human-made volcano. Plus, Universal flexes its culinary skills with inventive foods so good you’ll forget you’re at a water park.

Admittedly, I’ve never been a water park person, but this one truly blows the others out of the water. If I’m feeling daring, I’ll ascend the daunting steps to the top of the volcano for the thrilling Ko’Okiri Body Plunge. I also love the fast-moving Fearless River which requires guests of all ages and sizes to wear a lifejacket because it’s that intense. But there’s also plenty to do for the non-sliders, like lounge on white-sand beaches or hit up one of the many beach bars reminiscent of a tropical resort.

Magic Kingdom

Park Map | Website

Best Orlando theme parks - Disney's Magic Kingdom Cinderella Castle

Magic Kingdom is Walt Disney’s original Floridian theme park. It’s the home of the magic and a must-see for anyone. The iconic castle in the centre is recognised worldwide and the park has retained many of its original rides, whilst adding new ones and expanding at the same time. The park is split up into themed ‘lands’, from western frontier to a futuristic ‘Tomorrowland’. There are rides across the park that suit all ages and interests, from rollercoasters to slow moving carriages and motion theatres.

The park isn’t all about the rides either. From the moment you enter, you’re in a world unlike no other. Uplifting music, street performers, parades, shows and much more is on offer at Magic Kingdom. Even the restaurants and snack bars have something special and everything is themed, from the drinks to hotdogs.

Best for: Everyone! You haven’t been to Orlando if you don’t go to Magic Kingdom – even if you’re not a big fan of Disney.

Top rides and attractions to check out:

  • Snow White mine cart ride
  • Evening fireworks display
  • Thunder Mountain railroad

Insiders tips for visiting Magic Kingdom:

  • Tour the park in an anti-clockwise route for less queuing. Start with Tomorrowland
  • Book Fastpasses in advance for the top rides you want to check out. This applies to all the other Disney theme parks too
  • Dining at the Beauty and the Beast castle is a must! Lunch and dinner reservations are hard to come by, however arrive early for breakfast and you’ll most likely get a spot.

Shows Disney's Epcot entrance

Epcot is one of our favourite theme parks. It was based on an idea for a self-sustaining community for the ‘World of Tomorrow’. The attractions here are both fun and a learning experience in one, which makes it extra meaningful, especially for kids! Reach speeds of 60 miles per hour on the Test Track race ride, soar across beautiful landscapes on a hand glider in Soarin’ or plan a mission to save the earth on Mission Space simulator ride.

Epcot is split into two sections – a future land full of rides and learning experiences, and ‘World Showcase’, a circular lake full of small ‘countries’, inspired from locations from around the world. This is probably our favourite place to visit. You can wander from Mexico to Canada in one afternoon, stopping at lots of countries in between for cuisine and drinks on a global scale. The restaurants here are excellent.

We recommend Epcot for those that love food and drink and want to a futuristic learning experience with the family. There isn’t a great deal of rides compared to other parks, but the ones it does have are excellent!

Best for: Kids and families will learn a lot and adults can be at home sampling the fine food and drinks. The rides are for everyone!

  • Test Track and Soarin are the most popular rides – book Fastpasses to skip queueing
  • The Seas with Nemo and Friends
  • World Showcase evening fireworks show
  • Try to dine in Epcot at least twice during your stay. The restaurant selection is excellent. We recommend Le Cellier Steakhouse or Teppan Edo.
  • Take the Epcot food and drink challenge and indulge in a snack, drink or meal in everyone one of the World Showcase countries
  • Epcot is huge and you’ll do a lot of walking! Wear good footwear and pack plenty of snacks and drinks. Plan regular rest stops to replenish and enjoy your time here to the max!

Animal Kingdom

Best Orlando theme parks - Disney's Animal Kingdom tree of life

Animal Kingdom is a visually stunning outdoor theme park that focuses on nature and animals as a theme. The centre of the park has a giant ‘Tree of Life’ and there are several off-shoot themed lands depicting different world continents, a dinosaur land and recently opened Pandora, which takes you into a journey through the world of Avatar.

Animal Kingdom is quickly becoming one of the most loved Disney parks as it expands in size and more attractions are opening up. It’s best enjoyed when the weather’s nice and it has a nice contrast between shows, rides, cool scenery and animal exhibits, rather than just rides. Wander around the amazing world of Pandora on an evening as it glows in the moonlight, join a realistic safari across the African plains or conquer the huge mountain rollercoaster, Expedition Everest.

Best for: Families and those that want a cool outdoor theme park with shows and wildlife over solely rides.

  • The Festival of the Lion King show
  • Avatar Flight of Passage simulator ride
  • The Festival of Light – a spectacular evening show that takes place on the Africa lake region.

Insiders tips for visiting Animal Kingdom:

  • Pandora – The World of Avatar is insanely popular and simply a must-visit. Arrive at the park early and head straight there to beat the queues. Take a left just before the Tree of Life. Return on an evening to see the whole area glow in the dark.
  • Once you’ve been on the main rides, slow down the pace and soak in the outdoor atmosphere of Animal Kingdom. It’s a beautiful park to look at
  • Take time to see the animals. There are over 1700 animals in the park, which you can see on the Kilimanjaro Safari and in the close encounters areas.

Hollywood Studios

Depicts Disney Hollywood Studios street view

Hollywood Studios is Disney’s smallest theme park so it won’t take you as long to complete as the others, however it’s well worth a visit for its rides and shows. The entire park is themed around popular Disney movies, from Star Wars and Indiana Jones to animated classics such as Beauty and the Beast and Toy Story.

Hollywood Studios is also excellent for shows and live performances, ideal if you’re not a big fan of thrill rides. Experience ‘behind the scenes’ movie sets, a Beauty and the Beast musical and frequent improv acts of Hollywood stars across the park. Hollywood Studios is currently undergoing a huge renovation to extend the park, welcoming Star Wars and Toy Story areas that we can’t wait to see! If you have tickets as part of a package or you really want to check out certain rides here then you should come for a half-day, however if you’re short for time and have to pay full price, we recommend visiting another park due to the renovations – a lot of areas are closed.

Best for: Movie lovers, families and those that like shows and experiences over lots of rides.

  • Toy Story Midway Mania interactive video game ride
  • Hollywood Tower of Terror
  • Aerosmith Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

Insiders tips for visiting Hollywood Studios:

  • Get some of the best seats in the house at the evening Fantasmic show by booking a Fantasmic dining package. You can choose from some of the best restaurants in the park and have reserved seating for the show, which can fill up fast otherwise!
  • Hollywood Tower of Terror and Aerosmith Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster are so good you’ll want to try them more than once. Join the ‘single riders’ queues to skip the long lines.
  • If you’re arriving in the park early, leave attractions near the entrance and rides such as Tower of Terror/Rock ‘n’ Roller coaster for later in the day. Everyone dashes for these early in the morning. Instead, we recommend seeing many of the shows first.

Universal Orlando Theme Parks

The Universal Parks are the favourite for many Orlando veterans. Some people prefer Disney’s magical atmosphere; however, others love the movie theme of the Universal Parks and the wide variety of big rides and rollercoasters. There’s a lot of rides packed into the parks and you’ll need two full days to see them if you want to cover everything.

  • Universal Studios

Best Orlando theme parks - Universal Studios globe

Universal Studios is the world-famous movie production brand and the first park of its type in Orlando. The entire theme park is designed around movies and movie-sets, taking you into a journey of how films are made, whilst having fun on themed rides at the same time. Universal has an arsenal of hit Hollywood movies under its belt and you’ll find themed attractions ranging from Shrek and the Simpsons to Despicable Me, Men in Black and Transformers. Even the ice creams and drinks are themed!

Universal’s variety of movies will appeal to all age groups and the park is always introducing new rides and attractions, so you’ll find something new every time you visit. As the park is one of the originals and has some excellent rides, we’d recommend it as a ‘must-see’ for anyone, kids and adults alike. The new Diagon Alley and Harry Potter world attractions are latest attractions that are not to be missed. Universal Studios is one of the best theme parks in Orlando for an ‘all-rounder’ appeal; there’s something for everyone here!

Best for: Families with older kids and teenagers / adults

  • Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts
  • Fast & Furious – Supercharged
  • Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon

Insiders tips for visiting Universal Studios:

  • If you’re visiting during a busy time such as the summer or a bank holiday, buy an Express Pass. It’s a little costly but will save you a lot of time
  • Take your time on the rides and have snack breaks and see shows in between. The park has a lot of rides and you may feel sick if you do too much at once.
  • Arrive early and head straight to the Harry Potter attractions first. They’re the most popular and can get very busy. Alternatively, see them at the very end of the day.

Islands of Adventure

Best Orlando theme parks - Islands of Adventure Harry Potter Hogwarts castle

Islands of Adventure is a slightly smaller park than Universal Studios, however in our opinion it’s just as good. Start your visit on an island of Marvel and DC superheroes, pay Popeye a visit in a comic themed area and then head on to our favourite, Jurassic Park. You’ll also find the original Harry Potter rides and Hogwarts Castle, the main reason many people love this park.

Islands of Adventure has an excellent collection of movie inspired rides and themes that you’re sure to love. We particularly like eating in the replica museum restaurant from Jurassic Park whilst overlooking the lake. The park also has a strong appeal for kid’s compared to Universal Studios. Dr Seuss landing features popular characters such as Cat in the Hat and small rides for the little ones. It’s a small park packed with plenty of do and we recommend a visit for anyone that hasn’t been.

  • Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
  • Jurassic Park River Adventure
  • The Incredible Hulk Coaster

Insiders tips for visiting Islands of Adventure:

  • If you’re visiting during on a less busy day, you can complete both Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure in one full day. We recommend starting in Universal Studios in the morning and then catch the Hogwarts Express train to Islands of Adventure in the afternoon.
  • Visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter late afternoon. The park quietens down at this time so you’ll get a better experience of the most popular area of the park.
  • Islands of Adventure has lots of rides that will get you wet! Bring a change of clothes so you’re not uncomfortable for the rest of the day.

Busch Theme Parks

The Busch brand have theme parks across North America, many of which are in Orlando. Delve deep into a sea-life adventure in SeaWorld or Discovery Cove or hold on tight as you challenge yourself to ride on some of the most terrifying roller-coasters in the country in Busch Gardens. Booking a multi-park Busch theme park ticket in UK before arrival can save you lots of money if you plan on visiting all the parks (more on that later).

Best Orlando theme parks - Seaworld dolphin show

SeaWorld has gotten a bad rap over the past years since it was featured in the eye-opening documentary ‘Blackfish’. They’ve since tried to change opinions on the park and have re-thought a lot of attractions and animal care processes for better conversation and animal treatment. We recommend researching for yourself whether you want to see SeaWorld in light of the recent changes.

Ethics aside, SeaWorld can be a fulfilling experience for a theme park and the animal attractions here are plentiful. Feed the dolphins, marvel at the sea life and watch a variety of interactive dolphin, sea-lion and bird shows. SeaWorld also has some fun rides and 3D simulators, fitting with the animal conversation and underwater theme and appealing to all interests, whether you’re a thrill seeker or want something a little tamer and more visual. Visit Seaworld for the unique animal interactions and shows, with some fun rides as a bonus.

Best for: Families with kids of all ages

  • Turtle Trek – an immersive 3D experience of the life of a turtle
  • Manta and Kraken – two exhilarating rides than can be seen a mile away!
  • Clyde and Seamore’s Sea Lion High – a comedy show about a Sea Lion and his friends

Insiders tips for visiting SeaWorld:

  • Show seating fills up quickly, especially when the park is at full capacity. Arrive eating to score the best seats in the house
  • In addition to the standard park entrance and attractions, SeaWorld offers special tours such as up-close encounters with dolphins, penguins and ‘behind the scenes’ operations. They’re well worth checking out if you can afford the extra cost.
  • Ride the rollercoaster’s Manta and Mako first thing on a morning. The queues build up fast and you don’t want to miss the shows!

Busch Gardens

Depicts Busch Gardens rollercoaster

Unlike the other parks we’ve listed, Busch Gardens isn’t in the Orlando area. It’s just over an hour’s drive away in Tampa Bay and many people often overlook the park in favour of Disney and Universal due to its location. Busch Gardens is well worth visiting if you haven’t been! It’s a huge, African themed park with more roller coasters than any of the other parks; awesome if you like thrill rides! Just like a theme park in the UK such as Thorpe Park or Alton Towers, you’ll find big drop rollercoasters, multiple loops and everything in between.

Roller-coasters aside, the park is set in a natural environment to give the impression of being in Africa. You can see animals roaming around in a zoo-style open complex or watch a captivating acrobatic show with vibrant tribal costumes. As the park is so large, you’ll find plenty of rides, shows and attractions to suit all ages and interests. It’s not all about the terrifying roller-coasters, but they’re definitely the highlight!

Best for: Thrill seekers and families with older children. One of the best theme parks in Orlando for exhilarating roller-coasters.

  • Cheetah Hunt launch-style rollercoaster
  • Kumba, a spiralling high-speed rollercoaster in the Congo area of the park
  • SheiKra, the US’ first dive rollercoaster and probably the most popular ride in Busch Gardens

Insiders tips for visiting Busch Gardens:

  • If you’re staying in the park the whole day, and you probably will do as it’s so big, eating and drinking costs can add up fast. The All Day Fining Plan can provide good value!
  • Visit the animals first thing in the morning. As it’s cooler around this time, the animals are more active and you’ll catch a better view. They become sleepy in the hot afternoon sun.
  • As tempting as it may be to dash ride-to-ride all day, don’t forget to see some shows! The production quality is excellent and it’s a nice break from the sun.

Discovery Cove

Shows Discovery Cove lagoon

Discovery Cove isn’t a typical theme park with rides. It’s an immersive animal ‘meet and greet’ experience where you’ll swim with dolphins, snorkel with tropical fish and meet a whole variety of other sea life. It’s an animal encounter that will stay in your memories for life and many visitors pick Discovery Cove as their favourite park.

Don your wetsuit and spend the day meeting the animals and learning about different species, taking part in feeding time, and relaxing in a tropical environment. There’s even a beach where you can wind down with a cocktail in hand. Discovery Cove is an all-inclusive park so unlimited food and drinks is included in the price and it’s a fun day out whether you’re with your partner or your whole family!

Best for: Families or couples

Top attractions to check out:

  • Swimming with dolphins is an experience you won’t forget. Make this top of your priority list!
  • Swim with sharks (with only a glass panel to separate you)
  • Snorkel the Grand Reef, which is packed full of tropical fish

Insiders tips for visiting Discovery Cove:

  • All food and drinks are included in the admission price so arrive hungry and make the most of it! The food is delicious and plentiful.
  • Arrive at the park early to eat breakfast before everyone arrives. You’ll also get an extra hour in the water and can catch the early morning Stingray feeding.
  • On a similar note, head to the ‘Explorer’s Aviary’ early to feed the birds. They’re more receptive on a morning as they’re hungry.

Legoland Florida

Best Orlando theme parks - Legoland

What kid (and adult) doesn’t love Lego? We’re a big fan of the Lego brand and they now have a theme park in the Orlando area, located just under an hour’s drive south of Lake Buena Vista (Disney). Legoland is one of the best theme parks in Orlando for children and families, with lots of small rides designed around creation and having fun.

The park is themed to different Lego sets and characters and it’s a unique experience away from the vast thrill rides of the other Orlando theme parks. We recommend Legoland for families with small children that want a fun day out with less crowds, less walking around and plenty of fun activities.

Best for: Young kids / pre-teens

  • Don’t miss Miniland – an amazing world of miniature US towns and landmarks built using Lego bricks. The whole family will be impressed by this.
  • The Lego Movie 4D, a fun spin-off of the beloved Lego movie
  • Driving School – there’s two driving schools in the park where kids can take control of the wheel in a Lego car and whizz around to their desire

Insiders tips for visiting Legoland Florida:

  • You’ll find ‘build stations’ around the park. Use these as rest stops to re-charge or unleash your creative side
  • There’s an on-site water park. It’s a great way to cool down with a cold drink whilst the kids have fun
  • You can trade Lego mini characters with other guests and the employees at the park. It’s a cool way to interact with the Lego staff and earn some new toys

What are the best theme parks in Orlando?

This all depends on your interests and the type of theme park rides you like. Our top 3 recommendations for anyone that hasn’t visited before would have to be the following three parks. They have something for everyone!

  • Disney’s Magic Kingdom
  • Disney’s Epcot

Where and when should I buy my Orlando theme park tickets?

It’s much cheaper to buy your tickets as part of a package in the UK, before you arrive in Orlando. As many of the ticket re-seller sites offer similarly priced packages, we recommend Attraction Tickets Direct. They’re reliable and have some excellent multi-park packages.

Read more about booking Orlando theme park tickets in our guide here .

If you only plan on visiting one or two theme parks during your stay, it may be better value to just book single entry tickets on the theme park’s official website.

What are the opening hours for the Orlando theme parks?

Opening hours vary depending on the season when you’re visiting and the day of the week. You can view the latest opening hours by clicking on the website links for each park listed above.

Tips for visiting the Orlando theme parks:

travel orlando theme parks

  • Take advantage of Fastpasses to skip the queues. They’re available in all parks, some paid and others free and bookable online. Less queuing means more rides!
  • Arrive early if you can. Getting to the park for arrival gives you a chance to get on the rides and attractions before the crowds arrive and leave the park before it gets really hot if you’re all done.
  • Water spray for cooling down
  • If you have flexible theme park tickets (highly recommended), why not visit one theme park on a morning, return to the hotel for a rest and then venture to another theme park on an evening? It can be tiresome walking around all day.
  • On a similar note, wear good quality trainers or walking shoes. Your feet will thank you!
  • Pack a compact rain-mac in case of a flash Floridian rain storm. They can happen when you’d least expect!
  • Stay in a Disney or Universal resort to gain access to extra park benefits such as longer opening hours.
  • Be sure to check out some of the themed restaurants, drinks and snacks. It’s all part of the theme park fun!

We hope we helped you compare the best theme parks in Orlando. Every park is different and worth visiting in their own way and you should try to visit them all. If you’re short on time or have lots of other things you want to do, prioritise based on your interests and you can do the rest when you return next time. We’re positive you’ll be back!

30 Top tips for visiting ORLANDO THEME PARKS

Heading to Orlando theme parks? We share these top tips for visiting Orlando theme parks so you can enjoy the parks without stress.

is Orlando expensive

Top tips for visiting Orlando Theme Parks

Take a bottle of water and refill it at the various water fountains or ask the servers in restaurants. Most parks will refill water bottles free of charge and we love bringing a foldable water bottle like this ; you can collapse them whenever you are finished using them, so they take up much less space in your bag and you don’t have to worry about it getting crushed under all your souvenirs.

Use the website and park apps to get used to the layout of the park, so you can head straight to the ride you are most excited about. With the introduction of Genie +, there are many new things to learn about the Disney parks especially, so make sure you watch vlogs of those based in Orlando and get planning your days in the park. We always recommend you choose your ‘must-do’ attractions and rides before you visit so that you know which queues to prioritise.

  • BEAT THE HEAT

If you are not too fussed about riding every single ride, head to the parks at around 3.30 pm, meaning you beat the hottest time and the park is starting to clear. Enjoying the parks in the evenings are great ways to beat the crowds and heat, especially if you are stuck to visiting during school holidays.

Both Universal and Disney offer apps with ride waiting times, check these before you leave and whilst you are at the park so that you know which rides are quieter when deciding what to ride next. Make sure to keep refreshing the app too so that you have the most up-to-date times.

  • CHILD SWAP/RIDER SWITCH PASS

Travelling to the theme parks with small children? Many rides offer a ‘child swap’ option for young children to swap with their siblings; particularly helpful when you have only one adult or older sibling wanting to ride.

  • FORGET THE PARADE

If you do love rides, then forget watching the parades and head straight to the best rides you want to try. Queues tend to be a lot quieter during parade times, particularly the evening parades.

  • BUY YOUR TICKETS ONLINE

Avoid queues and save money by purchasing your tickets online and printing them before heading to the park. We save money and time by purchasing ticket packages at Undercover Tourist .

  • LEAVE POTTER TO LAST

Whilst visiting Universal, both Harry Potter areas and rides get incredibly busy, incredibly early. Leave visiting these sections until later in the evening (when younger children are heading home) to avoid long queues. Also, there are lots of great Harry Potter souvenirs available at Universal Studios but skip the wand purchases whilst here, these are massively overpriced. Read this guide to visiting Harry Potter World on a budget if you plan on spending a lot of time at the Universal parks but don’t want to spend too much money.

Although it is tempting, don’t overpack your bag! This will weigh you down and slow you down during your trip. Bring your phone, wallet, camera, raincoat and water bottle and that is all! If you are travelling as a couple or a group of friends, perhaps take turns in bringing a bag.

  • THE CORRECT FOOTWEAR

We have all done it; wore pretty new shoes on a day out and ended up with blistered, achy feet. Trainers are the best choice for trekking around these theme parks but I do love wearing a comfy pair of flip-flops in the hot months. You could also wear pumps or ballerina shoes, whatever you feel comfortable in, but just make sure to avoid brand-new shoes. This foot glide is a must too! Slip it into your bag and use it on achy, blistered feet when needed. The same company have this amazing body glide to prevent chafing too, so you can wear those dresses and skirts without anything aching after!

Food in parks can be so expensive but don’t forget you can bring your own food in with you. We like to bring in a few snacks and get the refillable cups.

Eating at an indoor restaurant can be a godsend during the hot summer months, so bring some extra money for this.

Alternatively, enjoy half days at the park and eat at restaurants outside of the parks before or after your time inside a theme park. This is especially useful at Universal when you can pop outside of the park and eat at City Walk.

If you are visiting Orlando on a budget, you could also choose to take time away from the park to enjoy one of the restaurants on International Drive then return to the parks in the evening.

In Orlando, it is so essential to bring sunscreen and keep applying it. It is easy to forget when you’re whizzing through the air at super speeds but don’t spoil the next few days of your holiday by forgetting to apply a bit whilst you’re queuing for the next ride.

top tips for visiting orlando theme parks

  • WEAR LAYERS

Orlando’s weather can change throughout the day, so bring layers to avoid the ‘waiting for the parade’ chill or to keep you covered in a thunderstorm. We love little raincoats that fold up into a tiny bag – we can throw them into our backpacks and wear them for wet rides or when it downpours.

  • SINGLE RIDER

If you aren’t too fussed about sitting next to your friends or family, take the single rider queue, which can cut your wait time by half, if not more.

  • BRING A CAMERA

Avoid paying for overcharged ride shots and bring your camera to capture your fun memories. You don’t need an expensive one either, just a decent phone camera or an affordable point-and-shoot camera would work. We love these travel cameras under $300.

  • ARRIVE EARLY AND STAY LATE

I know I have said to arrive late if you are not too fussed about riding all the rides but if you are fussed and want a full day at the park then get there early. Parking lots fill up faster in the popular months and currently, you need to book ahead of time to secure your place in a park.

Now, if you are staying on Disney property, we recommend taking a mid-afternoon break from the parks to cool off and avoid burnout. But make sure to head back into the parks as the sun sets, especially Magic Kingdom. I am not sure how much Walt Disney spends on fireworks but the shows should not be missed, even if you only catch them once on your trip!

Bring a Poncho to avoid the inevitable rainy afternoons.

  • BRING SPARE CLOTHES FOR WATER RIDES

The Island of Adventures includes lots of water rides that help you cool off in the summer. Unfortunately, because of the high humidity of the Orlando, clothes don’t always dry as well, so bring along some spare underwear to avoid walking around in wet clothes all day. This is also true for most theme parks if you want to enjoy their wetter rides.

  • START AT THE BACK

No matter which park you are heading to, walk to the back of the park when you first enter the theme park and work your way forward to avoid long queues and hectic walkways. This is especially true if you are visiting first thing in the morning.

  • ALTERNATE YOUR RIDES

This one we find much easier to do in Universal parks, but alternate your rides between outdoor and indoor air-conditioned rides to avoid getting too hot during the day. Also, try to time indoor meals or indoor rides during the middle of the day, when the sun and temperature are at their highest.

top tips for visiting orlando theme parks

  • SIT NEAR AN EXIT

When watching a show, try and get seats near an exit to allow for a fast escape at the end.

  • CHARGE YOUR PHONE

Not just for pictures but for those moments you suddenly lose your party, make sure your phone is fully charged. We always like to carry a lightweight battery pack on busy and long days out but you can also find recharging stations around most theme parks these days.

  • SOUVENIR SHOPPING

Buy your souvenirs at the end of your day, there is nothing worse than carrying around a half-deflated balloon and a collection of Simpson merchandise around the theme park all day. At Disney, if you choose to buy souvenirs during the day, you can collect the items at the exit as you leave the park or even get them sent to your hotel if you are staying at a Disney Resort.

  • BOOK FOOD RESERVATIONS IN ADVANCE

If you are a large family or want to eat in a popular sit-down restaurant for dinner, you need to book a table prior to your visit. This is especially true at the moment, with many places running at a reduced capacity. Remember, you can always opt for a meal at one of the Disney resorts if you want the Disney experience but restaurants in the park are fully booked.

Choose a hotel near the theme parks that offer a shuttle bus to avoid high taxi charges. You can rent and drive yourself, which we found the most convenient method of transport but be warned that parking in any of the theme parks is expensive, costing upwards of $25 per day. Disney resorts offer free transport to Disney parks, Universal resorts are within walking distance to the Universal parks and there are many hotel chains that offer free shuttle buses (especially on international drive ).

  • HEIGHT RESTRICTIONS

If you are travelling with younger children, check the height restriction before visiting so you can purposefully avoid certain rides and therefore avoid child disappointment.

Take advantage of the theme park apps. Not only do they have wait times as we mentioned before, but you can use apps to reserve restaurants too. Disney’s Genie app can be used to help you cut down on wait times at certain rides whilst the Disney Genie Plus app is a paid-for service which allows faster access to most rides.

  • USE THE CROWD CALENDAR

Undercover Tourist has a brilliant Crowd Calendar that gives you a rough idea of the park’s busiest days and weeks. Check it out before you plan any trip and avoid the Christmas period if possible.

top tips for visiting orlando theme parks

  • SPECIAL EVENTS

Throughout the year, the parks hold special events; whether it is a Christmas event, Halloween event or Disney’s popular Food and Wine Festival. For after-hour events, make sure to book tickets in advance, arrive early and stay late to make the most out of your time and money. Don’t overspend on food at these events (be picky about what you try) and avoid the first or last night of an event; these are always the busiest.

  • PHOTOGRAPH THE PARKING LOT

So, theme park parking lots are massive! Take a photo of the area and lot you have parked in so you can find your car at the end of the day.

The Best to Worst Theme Parks in Orlando List for 2024

Amy

The Florida Travel Girl is a free-to-use resource. I may earn a commission, at no additional cost to you, on purchases made from links I have personally chosen to recommend.

Visiting Orlando for the first time can be overwhelming when navigating all the vacation options. There are eight theme parks within an hour of Orlando Airport and only so many days in a trip! Of course, each one has its own unique attractions and experiences. However, if you need to narrow down which ones to visit, I have compiled this theme parks in Orlando list, ranking them from best to worst!

Though my list might be biased, I tried to determine the best as fair as possible. I chose four categories to rank each theme park by and gave them a rating from 1 to 3 (1 being the lowest, 3 being the highest). Then I added the scores up and ranked them from highest score to lowest.

The four categories I used to rank the theme parks in Orlando are attractions, amenities, atmosphere and value. Attractions looks at how many and how good they are. Amenities compares the shows, restaurants and facilities in the park. Atmosphere is judged on how well themed and pleasant of an environment a park is.

Lastly, value looks at how good of an experience one can have based on money spent. After comparing all eight options, here is my theme parks in Orlando list ranked from best to Worst.

Table of Contents

The Best of the Best Theme Parks in Orlando – Animal Kingdom

I am sure many will be shocked to see Animal Kingdom named number one on my best theme parks in Orlando list. When it first opened over twenty years ago, it was regarded as a half-day park for over a decade and often criticized as more of a zoo than a Disney theme park. With the addition of Pandora and many excellent restaurants and attractions through the years, I think it now ranks high enough to be my top pick for Orlando theme parks.

Since there are only eight rides, it gets a 2 out of 3 in the attraction ranking. However, there are many shows and exhibits that elevate it and lead to a 3 in all other categories. Another thing that sets it apart is the flow of the theme. The whole park feels like an immersive nature experience with a focus on conservation and the beauty of the earth.

You can easily spend a full day here starting with thrills on Everest and Flight of Passage. Then you can move on to the Safari, animal walkthroughs, and the shows. The perfect day at Animal Kingdom ends with a top-notch meal at Tiffin’s and then watching the Tree of Life projections.

Don’t forget the numerous delicious snacking spots throughout the day and upbeat attractions like DINOSAUR and It’s Tough to Be a Bug. You might go at a slower pace here than at other parks, but the fact that you can do that and still experience everything is part of the reason it is the best theme park in Orlando!

expedition everest at animal kingdom

Second Place – Magic Kingdom

Next up is the park that started it all Magic Kingdom ! The most magical place on earth opened fifty years ago and has enchanted the hearts of many ever since. This could have been an easy option for first place among the best theme parks in Orlando, but I think it has a couple of areas of improvement.

Magic Kingdom ranks high for attractions and value. There are twenty-three rides here as well as the best fireworks show in the area. You could spend two days in this park and still not experience it all. It also has a nostalgia factor that makes it an essential park to visit.

However, the food scene here is extremely lacking. The quick service options are inadequate compared to other parks and the full-service restaurants are difficult to get into and overpriced. I also find a lot of the theming to be disjointed. Fantasyland’s expansion now leaves old Fantasyland feeling subdued and Storybook Circus out of place.

Tomorrowland is especially a mess with it starting to look more like Pixar plus Space Land. I am hoping with the pandemic and 50th anniversary behind them, this park will get some cohesion, as well as parade and dining improvements. Even so, it is still a must-visit experience for all ages.

Third Place – Islands of Adventure

Of the two Universal Orlando theme parks, I think Islands of Adventures deserves to be in the top three for the area. This park also was not as well received when it opened in 1999. The addition of both Harry Potter and some new thrill rides has helped it achieve this third-place spot.

With 16 attractions, this has one of the best lineups in Orlando. I did give it a 2 out of 3 for attraction rankings because three of those are water rides and a bit too much of the soaking variety at that. The rest of the rides are some of the best you will find in the world, including the VelociCoaster, Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure, and The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man.

In regards to atmosphere, I enjoy the port of entry theming and then the engaging theming of each of the different lands. Though it is pretty cartoonish in Toon Lagoon and Super Hero Island, it is still immersive. There is also a lot of fun and whimsy for kids at Suess Landing, and of course for all ages in Hogsmeade. They are working on adding more restaurants and shows, but both Mythos and the Hogwarts projection show give this park some leverage and make it well worth the cost of entry. If you love theme parks strictly for thrills, this should probably be number one on your list, but I think everyone will find something to enjoy here.

islands of adventure theme park

Fourth Place – SeaWorld

Next up on this list is neither Disney nor Universal Park, but is SeaWorld Orlando. Though this park was originally known for its Shamu whale shows, it has now shifted to more of a rides and zoo experience, similar to Animal Kingdom. Between the fifteen rides and over a dozen animal experiences here, you can spend at least a day exploring this aquatic-focused Orlando theme park.

Starting with rides, SeaWorld gets a 2 out of 3 due to its diversity and number of attractions. Now that Pipeline has opened, there are five roller coasters here that are arguably even more thrilling than Universal’s. And the new Penguin Trek coaster will open this year and be a hit for all ages!

In addition to these, there are also two water rides and some cute kiddie rides. Unfortunately, there are not many rides in the middle ground for adults who do not like fast rides. The animal experiences can make up for that though!

In regard to shows, there is plenty to see including whales, dolphins, sea lions, and otters. Exhibits also include penguins, rays, turtles, sharks, and a touch tank. This helps boost the amenities category to a 2 out of 3. However, I have not ranked it higher due to very basic restaurants that are overpriced as well. Most of the food offerings are quick-service eateries with fast food fare and the sit-down restaurants are mediocre at best.

For atmosphere, this park sticks to its theme almost better than any other theme parks in Orlando. You definitely get the coastal vibes throughout the park. I still find it a little haphazardly thrown together at some parts though. Lastly, for value, this park also ranks in the middle of the pack. Though slightly cheaper than other theme parks here, it is usually only open for eight hours per day with no nightly entertainment. You can probably explore most of SeaWorld in that time though, and definitely should if you like thrills or sea life!

Fifth Place – Hollywood Studios

In the middle of the pack of theme parks in Orlando is Disney’s Hollywood Studios, a park that has had an identity crisis through the years. Few attractions are left from the MGM days. Though the Grauman’s Chinese Theater still stands, the rest of the park has changed significantly, especially in the last decade.

The biggest draw to the park now is Star Wars; Galaxy Edge and Toy Story Land, as well as Sunset Avenue, home to two of the most thrilling rides at WDW. Currently, there are nine rides and a handful of shows, although all but one have been performing since the 90s!!

Because of this, I gave it a 2 out of 3 for attractions. Though the ones they have here are all excellent, the lines are still insanely long and there are frequent outages on most attractions. There are also only three “kids rides” and not a lot at this park for people who do not like coasters or drops.

My biggest complaint is the atmosphere, which is a hodgepodge of intellectual property. Besides the new areas, most of the park is a mess with no concise areas. The fact that there are two separate Star Wars sections outside of Star Wars Land is strange enough. But also, the random placing of Muppets 3D, The Disney Junior Show and the Frozen Sing-Along make no sense. Most of the shows are so outdated and the nighttime entertainment is lacking as well.

For amenities, I gave this park a 2 out of 3. It has a good mix of quick-service and full-service restaurants, including Hollywood Brown Derby, BaseLine Tap House, and Docking Bay 7.

I really like what they have done with the new sections and the Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway ride so hopefully improvements to the rest of the park will follow suit. For now, I place this as a solid middle-of-the-pack park where you can experience fun rides and some tasty treats, but not the full magical Disney experience of other parks.

hollywood studios disney

Sixth Place – Epcot

It pains me to put my beloved Epcot as last for the Disney theme parks on this list, but it has gone down in a few areas for me through the past decade. Though I do love all the food and fun of the festivals , I think they have been focused on too much and the rest of the park not enough, to its detriment. The big Future World refurbishment managed to mostly take away from the park as well and I hate to see the direction of this park.

There are eleven rides here, which is more than two of the other Disney theme parks, but most leave a lot to be desired. Soarin’ and Test Track have not lived up to their predecessor versions and Mission Space, Journey into Imagination, and Spaceship Earth could also use an update. That leaves the rest of the rides to be relaxing boat rides or dark rides (with the exception of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind). These are fun, but a little underwhelming, especially considering the wait times, so Epcot gets a 1 for attractions.

As for restaurants, the food offerings here continue to impress, although less so with the price increases. I still find the World Showcase atmosphere to be gorgeous, but I gave the atmosphere a 2 out of 3. This is due to constant festival chaos with booths causing disruption to the atmosphere and the disjointedness of future world. Lastly, I gave the value of visiting here a 1 out of 3 because this is simply not a park worth spending over $100 to enter. To get the full experience, you need to spend a lot of money on food and drinks and potentially a lightning pass for Ratatouille. Considering the park does not even open until 10 AM now, it is very hard to justify paying for a full day here.

Seventh Place – LEGOLAND

The newest theme park on this list is LEGOLAND , which opened in Winter Haven in 2011. This is about an hour’s drive from the rest of the theme parks in Orlando, so I was tempted to leave it off. However, it is an affordable option, especially for families, and worth mentioning here.

In regards to rides, it has almost the most with 23 to choose from. I still only gave it a 2 out of 3 for attractions though because many will only appeal to the elementary school and under crowd.  The whole family will enjoy rides like Masters of Flight and the Lost Kingdom Adventure, but there is probably not enough for adults or teenagers to enjoy ride-wise.

The park itself is a treat for LEGO enthusiasts. I gave the atmosphere a 2 due to all of the amazing LEGO designs you can see throughout the park. MINILAND USA is especially a must-see, as it is made up of cities built entirely out of LEGOs. In addition, you can also explore the botanical section of Cypress Gardens which has been on display since 1936.

The other two categories earn a 1 out of 3, as this Orlando theme park is pretty basic in terms of dining options. And though you can get a one-day pass for less than $100 per day, it still doesn’t live up to most of the others in terms of value. For young families and LEGO enthusiasts, a day here is a worthwhile experience. For everyone else, I would definitely recommend the other theme parks in Orlando over this one.

The Last Place for Theme Parks in Orlando – Universal Studios

Unfortunately, one park has to be last, and I think this is where Universal Studios belongs. This suffers from many of the same identity issues that Hollywood Studios experiences, as they were both started as competing “movie industry” theme parks. Both tried to operate as an actual studio filming TV and movies, but have long moved away from that. Now each has shifted more towards giving visitors themed lands for different movies and TV shows, but still appears in progress.

For attractions, Universal Studios ranks 2 out of 3. I was tempted to give it a 1 because most of the rides here use screens more than rides, but I figured that is a matter of personal preference. I prefer classic rides and find many of the screen-based attractions at Universal Studios to be unpleasant, including Escape from Gringott’s. However, it does have some fun classics like the Mummy, ET Adventure, and Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit coaster.

For amenities and atmosphere, it gets a 1 out of 3. I find most of the restaurants here to be subpar and way overpriced. The ones that are half-decent usually have long lines as well! As for atmosphere, there is little discerning between the New York, San Francisco, Hollywood, and Production Central areas, so it feels like a mess. Of course, Diagon Alley and the Simpsons Land are very immersive at least, but the rest of the park needs help.

Do not let this deter you from visiting, because there is still plenty of fun to be had here! Though this may be last on the ranking of theme parks in Orlando, everything on here is still much better than any SixFlags or most other amusement parks in the country. Universal Studios has plenty to see and do, and for that, I gave the value a 2 out of 3.

Know Before You Go

This is not a definitive ranking of theme parks in Orlando, it is simply my opinions on the parks in their current state as of 2024. I am sure anyone could have at least a fun half day at any of the theme parks on this list if not a full day. I hope that this article can help you decide which parks to visit if you do not have time for all of them! I have included my comparison chart below, so you can use it to decide if you prefer a theme park with better attractions or atmosphere or what have you. In addition to that, keep these tips in mind before you go:

  • You can expect crowds pretty much any weekend and holiday throughout the year. It is hard to find a time of year when theme parks in Orlando are not crowded, but August and September and Late January to Mid-February are the best bet.
  • If you want to visit for the best weather, I recommend February through May. This is before it gets too hot and also has the least chance of storms. October through December can be nice as well, but there is a risk of storms.
  • Hurricane season is June through October and in the event of a major hurricane, these parks will shut down. I recommend avoiding this time of year unless you are okay with this risk.
  • All of these theme parks in Orlando charge at least $10 per day for parking. Be sure to budget for this expense as well!
  • If you are a Florida Resident, you can usually find ticket deals online if you buy in advance. Most parks require tickets to be purchased online anyway, so make sure to buy your tickets ahead of time.
  • I did not include Busch Gardens in this theme park in Orlando list because it is in Tampa and more in the Six Flags realm than the other offerings on this list. For thrill-seekers, you may want to check out Busch Gardens as well.

I hope this guide helped you decide which of the eight theme parks in Orlando you want to visit! If you need help planning a trip to Orlando, I am partnered with Kelly’s Magical Vacations and highly recommend her services. Find out more here!

  • Hollywood Studios Park : Disney’s Original MGM Studios park, this park honors old Hollywood, Star Wars and Toy Story. Home to churros, light sabers and the Tower and Terror.

Water Parks

The Water Parks at Disney World are typically open on opposite schedules throughout the year to allow for cleanings and refurbishments. The Water Parks at Disney require an additional ticket.

  • Typhoon Lagoon : This Disney Water Park is themed as a tropical oasis with a lazy river, surf pool and water slides. However, it’s been hit by a “typhoon”, causing a bit of chaos.
  • Blizzard Beach : Featuring a Santa Claus on vacation storyline, you can find “snow” at Blizzard Beach, a snow monster and even the snowgies from Frozen.

Other Places at Disney World

These places at Disney are open to the public and do not require a park ticket to visit.

  • Disney Springs:  The shopping center at Disney Springs includes stores, restaurants, and live music. It’s also home to the Splitsville bowling alley, a Movie Theater and the Cirque de Soleil show.
  • Disney’s BoardWalk: The Boardwalk includes a variety of restaurants, beaches, and recreation. It’s also home to 3 Disney Resorts; Disney’s Beach Club, Yacht Club, and Disney’s Boardwalk Inn.

Magic Kingdom Park

Magic Kingdom Park in Orlando is home to Cinderella’s Castle and opened in 1971. By far the most famous of the Walt Disney World parks, it is, however, also the smallest. Magic Kingdom includes Main Street U.S.A. inspired by Walt Disney’s hometown of Marceline, Missouri, and popular classic attractions like It’s a Small World, and Pirates of the Caribbean. This Park consists of six themed lands combining everything old, with everything new. Featuring classic rides like the Mad Hatter Tea Party in Fantasyland alongside the newer attractions like TRON LightCycle Power Run in Tomorrowland. Magic Kingdom has the most rides of any Walt Disney World Park and even though it’s the smallest will take the longest to get through get everything offered here.

Magic Kingdom Resorts

The Disney World Magic Kingdom theme park is near several resorts that get you close to the action. If you’re looking for hotels near Magic Kingdom, you have a couple of options. Easy transportation via the Monorail allows for easy access to and from the park from the Disney Monorail Resorts. These resorts include Disney’s Contemporary Resort , The Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, and the Polynesian Village Resort.

You can also grab a boat from Magic Kingdom to the nearby Wilderness resorts. Both Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort are a quick boat ride to the park, and offer a nature filled alternative to a typical Disney hotel experience.

Magic Kingdom Restaurants

Magic Kingdom is filled with restaurants. Unfortunately, restaurants at Magic Kingdom are not usually the best, and we always recommend heading to the Monorail Resort restaurants instead. However, if you’re planning to stay in the park to eat, we suggest Tony’s Town Square Restaurant, and The Crystal Palace. Home to Cinderella’s Royal Table and Be Our Guest , these are some of the hardest to get Disney Dining Reservations at Walt Disney World. They are also some of the most expensive, and we don’t feel they’re worth the cost.

If you’re looking for something easy and cheaper, you can check out the Best Quick Service Restaurants at Magic Kingdom. Again, the theme park food at Magic Kingdom is not the best, so we try to stick to things that are simple. Pinocchio’s Village Haus has flatbreads, and Friar’s Nook has great potato barrel Bowls.

Magic Kingdom Rides

Of all the parks, you most need Disney Genie+ for Magic Kingdom because there are so many rides. And waiting in line for rides throughout the day is near impossible when crowds are typically the worst at this park. Popular Rides at Magic Kingdom include the Seven Dwarf’s Mine Train, Peter Pan’s Flight, Haunted Mansion and Big Thunder Mountain . The newest ride at Magic Kingdom, TRON, requires a Lightning Lane or Virtual Queue Board Pass. Check out the Magic Kingdom Park Checklist for all the rides to plan for!

Magic Kingdom Disney Characters

Mickey Mouse, Tinkerbell, and Disney Princesses are all available to meet at Magic Kingdom. These Disney Character Meet and Greets don’t typically have the longest lines, but if they are a priority for you, be sure to plan for them! You can also catch Donald and Daisy, Winnie the Pooh and more Disney favorites in this park. Lines are lowest for characters in the morning and between 2-4 PM. Check out the list for where to find Disney Characters in Magic Kingdom.

Magic Kingdom Shows and Parades

Magic Kingdom is famous for its Festival of Fantasy Parade and the fireworks show, Happily Ever After . Both are Disney Must Dos at Magic Kingdom, and you should plan for it! This means a 3pm parade in the park, and an 8 or 9pm Fireworks Show to stay for in the evening. Be sure to check the My Disney Experience App, for showtimes.

Magic Kingdom Events

Best known for it’s seasonal events, you can attend parties at Magic Kingdom and Disney After Hours events. Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party in the fall and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party in December are very popular and an excellent way to take advantage of rides with fewer guests in the park, exclusive snacks, and seasonal fun!

EPCOT

EPCOT combines the worlds of technology, nature, and culture, bringing life to Walt Disney’s original idea of an Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. While his original idea included self-driving cars, solar-powered homes and an international marketplace, the current version of the park is changing with times. As a result, EPCOT is in the midst of several construction projects beginning to complete. Grounded in an overarching goal of creating four neighborhoods within EPCOT these themed areas further solidify the desired look and feel of each experiential land.

These four neighborhoods are World Celebration, acting as the central spine of the park, World Nature showcasing everything on the land and sea that makes up our human experience, World Discovery, featuring technology and space with a focus on innovation and World Showcase comprised of multiple countries sharing cultural experiences in each pavilion. From engineering your own vehicle at Test Track to strolling through nature in the Moana’s Journey of Water attraction, there are many things to explore in EPCOT.

EPCOT Area Resorts

Resorts near EPCOT Park can be found in the Disney Boardwalk Area. Disney’s Yacht Club, Beach Club, and Boardwalk Inn are all within walking distance of the park. You can also find Disney Marriott Hotels in the EPCOT area, giving you even more options of places to stay. Disney’s Swan, Swan Reserve and Dolphin are also other hotels near EPCOT if you’re looking to stay close by. Other resorts included in this area are Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and Disney’s Riviera Resort, both accessible via the Disney Skyliner, with a station at the EPCOT International Gateway.

EPCOT Restaurants

Restaurants at EPCOT combine a lot of different cuisines, as a result of the World Showcase. Home to signature dining experiences at Monsieur Paul and Le Cellier, you don’t have to spend a fortune for a good meal. We most like Via Napoli for the pizza, La Cantina de San Angel for the empanadas, and Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie for everything else. You can also see all the Disney Princesses at once for character dining at Akershus in Norway. Many of the restaurants here are good and you can find even more Quick Service Restaurants at EPCOT that are budget friendly.

EPCOT Rides

Most known for Spaceship Earth at the entrance of the park, there are many popular rides in EPCOT worth riding. Frozen Ever After, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Soarin’ are favorites, and usually require a ride strategy or lightning lane pass if you’re hoping to stay out of long lines. Favorites like Test Track, and Living with the Land are also here. Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind is a thrill rollercoaster that brings back to the past, with fun music. It does require a Virtual Queue Boarding Pass to snag a place in line or a Lightning Lane Pass if you’re hoping for a shorter wait. Check out the EPCOT Park Checklist for details on all the rides.

EPCOT Disney Characters

Characters in EPCOT include Snow White in Germany, Aurora and Belle in France, Mulan in China, and Donald Duck in Mexico, among other. With more characters than you realize be sure to check out the list of EPCOT characters to make sure you have your favorites on the list.

EPCOT Shows and Parades

EPCOT doesn’t have parades, but they do have a nighttime spectacular called, Luminous . Luminous combines music, pyrotechnics and fireworks for a nightly show featuring familiar Disney music and a message about our shared humanity. You can see this show nightly, for a dazzling display on the World Showcase Lagoon. Truly an amazing fireworks show you can even see it from the beaches of the Boardwalk and nearby hotels.

EPCOT Festivals

Walt Disney World hosts 4 festivals at EPCOT park annually. Each festival has it’s own theme, specialty foods, shows, performances and merchandise. Here are the festivals you can see every year at Epcot. First, the International Festival of the Arts happens from January through mid-February. Second, the Flower and Garden Festival takes place from March through mid-June. Third, you can visit the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival late July- November. And Fourth, the International Festival of Holidays in December. Check out all the details on each festival at EPCOT.

Animal Kingdom

Disney’s Animal Kingdom covers 500 acres of landscape comprised of six areas featuring unique cultures, wilderness, and over 2000 animals. The Oasis and Discovery Island features lush landscapes, shops, and the Tree of Life as the centerpiece of the park. Bringing the lands of Africa and Asia to the forefront, Disney’s Animal Kingdom offers winding paths through the Maharajah Jungle Trek, and the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail. DinoLand U.S.A features the world of the past, while Pandora World of Avatar brings guests 4.4 million lightyears away. Here you’ll find Walt Disney World’s most popular ride, Avatar Flight of Passage.

Animal Kingdom Area Resorts

If you’re heading to Animal Kingdom, know that this area of the Disney World Parks, is somewhat remote. Still, there are 5 Disney Resorts in the Animal Kingdom Resorts Area. While none of them are within walking distance, and you can only travel to Animal Kingdom by Bus, here are the Animal Kingdom resorts to know. The Disney All-Stars Resorts ; including All Star Music, Movies and Sports are nearby. As are Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge . These resorts only offer Disney Bus transportation, but if you’re hoping to finding somewhere close to Animal Kingdom to stay, then it’s typically a 10-15 minute bus ride from these resorts.

Animal Kingdom Restaurants

Offering a variety of unique cuisine, hailing from Africa, Asia and even Pandora, the food at Animal Kingdom is unique and flavorful. The Tusker House Restaurant offers character dining with Mickey and Friends in their Safari Gear, and Nomad Lounge serves some of the best drinks and appetizers to be had in the park. If you’re looking for the  Best Quick Service Restaurants at Animal Kingdom , then Satu’li Canteen offers delicious power bowls to keep you going through the day. Animal Kingdom is also great for specialties like dumplings at Mr. Kamals, and Pineapple Dole Whip Cake from Tamu Tamu.

Animal Kingdom Rides

The most popular ride at Animal Kingdom is Pandora’s Flight of Passage . This flight simulator ride has consistently long waits, typically about 1-2 hours long. As a result this is an ideal ride to grab a Lightning Lane Pass for, or to rope drop as soon as the park opens. Due to Animal Kingdom’s shorter hours, there is less time to ride rides. However, there are a few main ones you should be sure to have on your Animal Kingdom Must do list. Kilimanjaro Safaris takes you across the savanna so you can see the animals and is a must see for many at the park. Expedition Everest gets you face to face with a Yeti, and Dinosaur is a must do for anyone eager to outrun a T-Rex, courtesy of a rickety old jeep. Get a full list of Animal Kingdom Rides in the Checklist.

Animal Kingdom Disney Characters

Some of the most unique Disney characters can be found at Animal Kingdom Park. Moana, Pocahontas, Tarzan, Russell and Dug, and Kevin from UP! are all available for meet and greets throughout the year. Plus, you can also see Donald Duck, Launchpad McQuack and even meet Mickey and Minnie in their Adventurer outfits. Animal Kingdom characters can also be seen in flotilla boats sailing along the discovery River throughout the day. A fun treat if you’re not up for standing in line to see them close up. Check out all the Disney Characters at Animal Kingdom you can see on your next visit.

Animal Kingdom Shows and Parades

Due to Animal Kingdom’s early closing, usually by 6pm there aren’t typically nighttime spectaculars , like the other parks. However, on nights when they are open later you can watch the Tree of Life Awakenings Show, which also offers a holiday version during December. Throughout the daytime hours, Animal Kingdom does not offer parades, but does include a steady stream of Disney Character Flotillas that sail Discovery River. Check the My Disney Experience App for showtimes. You can generally see up to 5 different character floats in a day.

Animal Kingdom Events

Disney After Hours Events are sometimes offered at Animal Kingdom throughout the year on select dates. Giving guests the chance to see Pandora at Night, and take advantage of a nighttime safari on the savanna. You can check the Disney Website and the app for times when specialty events are available. Note, that they are in addition to your park ticket, so plan to budget extra if you’re hoping to snag a spot at a late night event.

Hollywood Studios

Hollywood Studios has had many names over the years, but the focus of honoring cinema has stayed the same. Featuring some of Disney’s most popular film franchises like Toy Story, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and the Muppets, Hollywood Studios has rides and experiences perfect for both kids and adults. Home to popular rides like Slinky Dog Dash, Rise of the Resistance and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Hollywood Studios offers a variety of fun for everyone in the family.

Hollywood Studios Area Resorts

Nearer to EPCOT Park than you realize, and actually connected by a walking path from EPCOT to Hollywood Studios, the Hollywood Studios Resort Area includes the EPCOT resort area as well. As a result, all of the BoardWalk Resorts are within walking distance of Hollywood Studios. In addition, there are a few other resorts connected to Hollywood Studios via the Disney Skyliner. These Skyliner Resorts include Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, the Riviera Resort, Art of Animation and Pop Century. As Skyliner resorts guests staying at any of these 4 locations can take the skyliner to both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios.

Hollywood Studios Restaurants

Dining at Hollywood Studios is much like it is at Magic Kingdom, somewhat sub-par. While Woody’s Lunch Box over in Toy Story Land is fantastic for a quick lunch, and the Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge is wonderful for an upscale meal, other options inside the park are basic theme park fare. The exception my be the Ronto Wraps over at Ronto Roasters, which are a must-try Disney Snack. You can check out our Best Quick Service Restaurants at Hollywood Studios to make sure you’re only picking the best ones.

Hollywood Studios Rides

Home to Rise of the Resistance , Mickeys Runaway Railway and Slinky Dog Dash , there are plenty of rides here that are popular and fun. Though lines do tend to be long, if you plan the busiest rides in the morning, you’ll be able to fit indoor rides, like Star Tours, and Toy Story Mania, in during the hot afternoon hours. And don’t overlook the shows; Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage, Indiana Jones Stunt Show Spectacular , and Muppets 3-D are all fun additions to your Hollywood Studios Day. check out the List of Attractions at Hollywood Studios for everything to see and do while you’re there.

Hollywood Studios Disney Characters

The main characters to see at Hollywood Studios include the Pixar Pals, Star Wars characters, and Woody, Buzz and Jessie in Toy Story Land. You can also see Mickey and Minnie at Red Carpet Dreams, if you’re looking for a Hollywood version of your favorite power couple.

Hollywood Studios Shows and Parades

While Hollywood Studios doesn’t typically have parades, you can sometimes see cavalcades, or motorcades throughout the park. You can also catch the Green Army Men and Stormtrooper March performances that are shown intermittently throughout the day.

The main shows at Hollywood Studios are Fantasmic and Wonderful World of Animation. Fantasmic is show that takes place at the outdoor theater, complete with moat, pyrotechnics, fireworks, and storytelling as Mickey and the Disney Villains have a showdown. The Wonderful World of Animation show takes place on the facade of the Chinese Theater. Featuring memorable Disney scenes and songs, this is an honor to the animation of Disney.

Hollywood Studios Events

Events at Disney’s Hollywood Studios often include Disney After Hours, on select nights throughout the year. And during the holidays, you can catch Jollywood Nights , which is a holiday party after hours in parks. Both require additional tickets and get you access to the park after closing.

Disney World Parks Guide

Hopefully this post has helped you get a handle on all the Disney World Parks to visit while you’re in Orlando Florida. If you looking for even more to do, be sure to check out the Disney Water Parks. In addition, visiting the Disney BoardWalk , and Disney Springs to your trip are also free and worth your time!

Start young. What families should know about visiting LEGOLAND Florida

travel orlando theme parks

I wish I’d brought my kids to LEGOLAND Florida sooner.

At 9 and 12, they were still in the park’s target age range on a recent visit, but I think they would have enjoyed it even more when they were younger, and we’d still have more prime park years ahead as a family. The whole resort, one of three LEGOLAND resorts across the country, is designed with kids in mind.

Here’s what I learned on our first trip and what other families can expect at LEGOLAND Florida.

1. The park is geared toward younger kids

Kids of all ages can enjoy LEGOLAND Florida, but the prime ages are 2 to 12.

“If your child is looking for thrill rides, then our park may not be suitable for them,” the resort says on its website .

My 12-year-old thrill-seeker prefers white-knuckle attractions, but we still had fun as a family. Her favorite ride was Mia’s Riding Adventure , a disc coaster with a 48-inch minimum height requirement .

Several attractions at neighboring LEGOLAND Florida Water Park have similar or higher height requirements for safety reasons .

What should I prepare for a family trip? The Bucket List Family knows better than most.

2. Grown-ups can have fun, too

Many attractions are meant to be enjoyed by the whole family, though kids can ride many unaccompanied. In fact, only kids are allowed in the Driving School and Jr. Driving School attractions . Adults have to watch from the sidelines.

Our family enjoyed walking through MINILAND USA , which recreates several iconic U.S. cityscapes and landmarks with LEGO bricks. We easily spent over 30 minutes marveling at the detailed builds, several of which feature interactive elements, like a conga line on the Little Havana side of the Miami section.

We also enjoyed Brickbeard’s Water Sport Stunt Show , which puts a LEGO twist on the water ski shows Cypress Gardens was famous for years ago when it occupied the land LEGOLAND Florida does now.

3. Guests of all abilities are welcome

LEGOLAND theme parks pride themselves on their accessibility. LEGOLAND Florida, California and New York are all Certified Autism Centers . Guests will notice that every attraction has a sensory guide indicating levels of stimuli for each sense. Designated low-sensory areas are available for guests to reset.

Various accommodations are available for different access needs, including HERO Passes for guests who may have difficulty waiting in traditional lines.

4. The Fastrack pass is really a fast track

You can buy a Fastrack Unlimited pass to skip the line at every ride except Pirate River Quest . It starts at $69.99 on top of park admission.

A cheaper, limited Fastrack 3-Pack is also available for one-time access to three of the park’s roller coasters: Coastersaurus , The Dragon , and The Great LEGO Race . That starts at $23.99

5. There’s more to do than rides

The park’s newest attraction, LEGO Ferrari Build and Race , isn’t a ride but a themed space where you can build and test your own LEGO race car. Then you can upload the design into a race simulator to see how it fares against other guests’ creations.

Guests can also sign up for interactive LEGO building classes throughout the park, watch 4D movies and meet larger-than-life LEGO characters.

My in-laws and I enjoyed walking through the botanical gardens that were once part of Cypress Gardens. Guests can also see some of the gardens on Pirate River Quest.

6. The resort is bigger than you may realize

The resort spans 150 acres. That includes neighboring LEGOLAND Florida Water Park, Peppa Pig Theme Park Florida and three themed on-site resort hotels.

Make sure to grab a paper park map or to refer to the free MobileApp so you don’t miss out on entire parts of the park like we did. And wear comfortable shoes.

7. It is not close to Orlando

LEGOLAND Florida is in Winter Haven, about an hour’s drive from Orlando International Airport and about an hour and a half from Tampa.

Many families choose to spend multiple days at the resort, staying on property and visiting its other parks.

If you’re planning to visit other Central Florida theme parks on your trip, know that LEGOLAND Florida is not next door, and you'll need a car to get there.

LEGOLAND is making awesome for everyone: Here's how and what guests can expect

8. Ice water is free, and outside food is allowed

Guests can get free cups of ice water anywhere dispensed drinks are sold. Ice-cold water is also available from Coca-Cola Freestyle machines throughout the park. Bring a refillable water bottle so you can stay hydrated. Plastic cups are available as a backup.

To save money, guests can bring in their own food and snacks. Theme park food is not cheap. A burger and fry combo at LEGO City Burger Kitchen was $15.95 during my visit. A kids meal, which also included a drink, was $13.19.

9. The park is cashless

Like a growing number of destinations, including some national parks , LEGOLAND Florida is now cashless . Payments can be made by debit card, credit card or Apple Pay.

The reporter on this story received access to the park from LEGOLAND Florida. USA TODAY maintains editorial control of reviews.

WEATHER ALERT

2 rip current statements in effect for Coastal Flagler and Coastal Volusia Regions

News 6 insider, 🎢 these are the best amusement parks in florida.

When you hear the phrase “amusement park,” chances are the first thing that comes to your mind is Disney; however, in 2023, nearly 600 businesses described themselves as amusement parks in the United States.

There are places to enjoy thrill rides, view animal shows, swim, and play in nearly every state across the country, and one that might be near and dear to your heart may be unfamiliar to someone else, depending on where you live.

Recommended Videos

For instance, Lake Compounce in Bristol, Connecticut, holds the title of America’s oldest amusement park. It’s been in continuous operation since first opening to the public in 1846 when local scientist Samuel Botsford demonstrated electricity experiments for entertainment, but if you don’t live nearby, chances are you don’t know it (unless you’re an amusement park or history buff). On the flip side, there are behemoth parks that are destinations all their own.

People travel from all over the world to visit Disney’s and Universal’s theme parks in California and Florida.

If you’re a thrill ride, water park, or roller coaster junkie, Six Flags is another huge name, with 24 parks scattered throughout the U.S.

These types of parks truly transport you to another world and are full of their own kind of magic, but the quaint or historic parks like Lake Compounce are just as special—if not more so—to locals.Stacker compiled a list of the best amusement parks in Florida using data from Tripadvisor.

Tripadvisor ranks businesses using a combination of metrics, including overall rating, reviews, and number of page views. As a result, a business with a 5 out of 5 overall rating might rank lower than one with a 4 out of 5. Data is as of April 2024.Read on and see how many of these local amusement parks you’ve visited.

10 of America’s Best Water Parks

Make a splash at these fun-filled oases.

family on water slide at aquapark, romania

We've been independently researching and testing products for over 120 years. If you buy through our links, we may earn a commission. Learn more about our review process.

Whether you’re four or 40, there’s nothing quite like the thrill of zipping down a waterslide on a hot summer day, feeling the rush of adrenaline that comes with every twist, turn and drop, then plummeting into a shallow pool, climbing out, and doing it all over again. Waterparks are some of life’s most nostalgic places, where sore feet and sunburns are the mark of a day well spent.

From innovative theming to record-breaking attractions, here are 10 of America’s best waterparks.

Universal’s Volcano Bay | Orlando, Florida

Schlitterbahn New Braunfels | New Braunfels, Texas

waterslides at schlitterbahn waterparks and resorts in new braunfels, texas

Claiming the title of “World’s Best Waterpark,” the Schlitterbahn park in New Braunfels, Texas, packs more than 51 attractions into 70 acres. The name nods to the area’s German heritage, with dedicated sections housing slides, coasters, rivers and pools interspersed through natural landscaping.

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park | Orlando, Florida

disney’s typhoon lagoon water park in orlando, florida

No one does a theme quite like Disney, and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park is no exception. Telling the story of a legendary storm that struck a tropical island, the focal point of the park is a shrimp boat stuck on top of Mt. Mayday. The surrounding 56 acres are filled with waterslides, a surf pool and the kid-friendly Ketchakiddee Creek playground.

LEGOLAND California Resort | Carlsbad, California

an inside look around sea life aquarium at legoland during covid 19 shutdown

Bare feet and LEGOs finally go hand-in-hand at LEGOLAND California’s waterpark. Interspersed with the park’s waterslides and wave pools are activities like the “Imagination Station,” where kids (and let’s be honest, adults) can build bridges and dams with DUPLO bricks, build a boat to race or build a LEGO raft in the lazy river.

Noah’s Ark Waterpark | Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin

waterslide at noah's ark waterpark in wisconsin dells

Wisconsin Dells may be known as the “Waterpark Capital of the World,” but one rises above the rest with an impressive record: it claims “America’s Largest Waterpark.” Noah’s Ark Waterpark is often a pioneer in water rides, introducing a glowing slide this year (Chameleon) to enjoy alongside the world’s largest king cobra slide (Raja) and the country’s first nearly vertical looping slide (Scorpion’s Tail).

Six Flags White Water | Marietta, Georgia

silhouette of person sliding down water slide

Six Flags Over Georgia has a dedicated water park onsite, Six Flags White Water . As its name suggests, there are plenty of adrenaline-inducing rides like the tropical storm-themed Typhoon Twister or the ultra-tall Dive Bomber with a 90-degree drop. For casual park-goers, Six Flags White Water also has a wave pool and lazy river.

Splashin’ Safari | Santa Claus, Indiana

enjoying summer vacation in cool water

In a town called Santa Claus, a holiday-themed amusement park just makes sense. Navigating through Holiday World park sections with themes like Halloween and Fourth of July will lead you to Splashin’ Safari, a sprawling tropical park with nearly 50 attractions, including the world’s longest water coaster. Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari promise value, with one ticket admitting entry to both parks and free soft drinks and sunscreen offered throughout.

The Boardwalk at Hersheypark | Hershey, Pennsylvania

carefree man having fun while sliding into the swimming pool

The sweetest waterpark around, the Boardwalk at Hersheypark is the waterlogged counterpart to the adjacent candy-inspired amusement park. Challenge your friends at the world’s longest mat racing slides, get an adrenaline rush on a watercoaster, or opt to float down the (more than) 1,300-foot lazy river.

Great Wolf Lodge | Multiple Locations

great wolf lodge georgia grand opening

We’d be remiss not to mention the largest chain of indoor waterparks in the country, Great Wolf Lodge . Contrary to most others on the list, these parks stay open year-round for aquatic adventure no matter the weather. From California all the way to Massachusetts, guests can enjoy wave pools, slides and lazy rivers all day long, then retire to their resort-style accommodations without ever leaving the property. 2023 will welcome two new properties: Great Wolf Lodge Maryland and Great Wolf Lodge Poconos .

Cowabunga Bay | Multiple Locations

nevada reopens water parks as part of phase 2 reopening amid covid 19 pandemic

There are two outposts of Cowabunga Bay , a retro surfer-inspired waterpark in Las Vegas and Draper, Utah. Skip the strip and head to the Nevada location, where more than 25 attractions like body slides, racers and an all-dark tube slide add to the thrill. The Utah counterpart has 11 colorful slides and a dedicated area for little adventurers.
