Step-by-Step Guide from SeaTac Seattle Airport to Downtown Seattle (Easy!)
By: Author Kim Tate
Posted on Published: June 2, 2022
For visitors flying into Seattle Airport (formerly known as SeaTac but now simply SEA), getting to downtown Seattle from the airport requires a bit of planning. Some may rent a car or use rideshare, but there is an extremely easy, and cheap, way to get from the airport to Seattle. Take the Link light rail train.
As a Seattle local, I documented the steps you’ll need to follow to avoid traffic and save money on your trip into Seattle from the airport.
Leaving the Seattle Airport
The Seattle airport has six terminals, A, B, C, D, N, and S. All of these terminals exit into the same baggage claim area that runs the entire length of the airport.
The two satellite terminals (N & S) will require you to take a short underground train ride to the Main Terminal/Baggage Claim from the satellite terminal (except for International Arrivals). From the train, you’ll exit at the Main Terminal/Baggage Claim stop and follow the signs to Baggage Claim (you’ll go up a level).
From the main terminal, you simply follow signs to baggage claim, which is located one level below the gate level.
Getting on Seattle Sound Transit Link Light Rail Train
Once you have your luggage, you’ll want to follow the signs toward the parking garage. This will mean you’ll go up or down half a level from the terminal or baggage claim and cross a sky bridge to the parking structure.
The Link Light Rail station is located at the north end of the parking lot, so follow the signs and make your way over to the station.
When you enter the station, look for ticket machines to buy your pass. You can also download the Transit GO Ticket app and buy a digital ticket in advance. If you’re planning to use public transit often while in Seattle, look into buying an ORCA card which costs $3 and can be loaded with a value between $5 to $300.
How Much Does It Cost for the Train from Seattle Airport to Seattle Downtown
You’ll pay $3.00 to ride the Link light rail train from Seatac airport to downtown Seattle. Fares vary based on distance, the cheapest being $2.25 and the most expensive being $3.50, but between the airport and the downtown exits, it currently costs $3.00.
Once you have your ticket or have swiped your ORCA card, you’ll take the escalator up to the train deck. There will be two tracks, one for Northgate and one for Angle Lake. Northgate is the most northern stop and passes through Seattle, choose the Northgate track . Angle Lake is the one-stop south of the airport, this is not in the direction of downtown Seattle so don’t take it.
When a train arrives, you’ll be able to walk directly on board and find a seat. Do keep in mind that there are a lot of backward-facing seats since the trains move in both directions. If you suffer from motion sickness, note what direction the train came in (it will move in the same northern direction) when choosing your seat so you can sit forward-facing.
One thing that surprised me about the Seattle Link light rail is that your ticket is never scanned. When I take the train from JFK airport to Manhattan , I have to have my ticket punched by a train agent. Not so in Seattle. So don’t worry about trying to scan your ticket anywhere or being ready to show it to an agent. It’s run on an honor system.
The only exception is those using ORCA cards, you’ll have to scan your pass when you enter the station as well as scan it when you exit the station so that they know how much to charge you for that ride.
Exiting the Seattle Link Light Rail into Downtown Seattle
There are multiple stops for downtown Seattle, so you’ll want to know which is closest to your destination. I find using Google Maps can be useful for figuring this out. You can simply navigate from the airport to your hotel or destination and then choose the public transit option.
This method will help you know which of the downtown exits is closest to where you want to go. For a few of the popular attractions here are the closest exits:
- Lumen Field (Seattle sports stadium): Int’l District/Chinatown Station
- Pike Place Market : University Street Station
- Space Needle : Westlake Station (connect to Monorail to Seattle Center)
As a Seattle local, I think it’s important for me to mention to tourists that Seattle is a major city. Public transit can attract persons who may make some visitors feel uncomfortable. That being said, we use the Light Rail often during the daytime hours and it works fabulously for avoiding traffic and getting between downtown and the airport.
Other Options from Seattle Airport to Seattle Downtown
If you’re wondering if this is the best option for you, here are a few other ways people can get from the airport to Seattle downtown.
While you can explore much of Seattle on foot and car-free, there is a huge amount of our region that offers plenty to see and can only be explored by car. A few things to keep in mind about renting a car in Seattle:
- Seattle does have bad rush-hour traffic. Traffic into the city from the north and south will be heavy during the daytime hours (5-10 am), traffic out of the city to the north and south burbs will be heavy in the evenings (3-6 pm). Also keep in mind any Seattle sports events, they can cause side streets around the stadium to be standstill and the highways can be heavy. Use Waze or your favorite traffic app to help alert you to traffic slowdowns.
- Downtown Seattle also has a lot of one-way roads and hills. If you’re used to driving in a big city with one-way roads and street-parking, you’ll likely be fine. I don’t recommend a manual car because of the hills in downtown. Gas is also expensive in Seattle, so you might want to choose a hybrid car.
- Parking in Seattle can be expensive, especially at the hotels. Be sure to take that into account when planning your budget and car rental.
- The car rental center at SeaTac airport is located off-site. You’ll exit the doors at the baggage claim and catch a shuttle bus to the facility. There are two places to catch the shuttle, one at each end of the baggage claim level.
Rideshare (Uber/Lyft)
Uber and Lyft are readily available in Seattle. You’ll pay about $40-$45 one-way for a rideshare into the city. To catch a rideshare from the Seattle airport, you’ll head to the 3rd level of the parking garage.
If you don’t want to bother with rideshare apps, you can catch a cab at the airport. You will pay around $45-$50 for a taxi, so slightly more than rideshare. Taxis are also located on the 3rd floor of the parking garage.
Note: there are two taxi options at the airport, taxis that are all-one color and have a 3-digit vehicle number charge based on a meter. Taxis that are two-colors and have a 4-digit vehicle number charge flat-fees rates.
Shuttle / Town Car Service
The next most affordable way to get from the Seattle airport to Seattle Downtown is to use a shared shuttle service. Lately many of these services have become private only options dues to health factors, which negates the savings you’d expect for a shared shuttle service.
You can book a private town car for around $75-$120 one-way into the city.
Final Thoughts
You can see that the taking the Link light rail train from the Seattle airport to downtown Seattle is extremely convenient and cheap. The only times I wouldn’t use the train is if I was arriving during the late/early hours of 9pm to 4am. Otherwise, it’s an easy way to get to the city.

Approximate time for this journey?
How late do these rails run? I am not sure of our flight times just yet- in June 2024, but did see your warning that late night travel would not be recommended.
Any information you share would be appreciated and most helpful. Thank you in advance.

Hi JoAnn! It's about 40 minutes from the airport to downtown. They run pretty often (every 7-15 min) between 5 am and 1 am, so most of the day. Of course it's always a good plan to check the Sound Transit website to make sure there aren't any track closures. I personally wouldn't take the train after 9 pm and I wouldn't take it if I had a lot of luggage.
Traveling from SEA to 1110 Mercer to hotel. Would the option be light rail to transfer to streetcar? Lake Union area? Times all the same for running? 5 of us traveling with 1 large suitcase and others very small - unchecked carry ons. Luggage okay to carry? Orca cards good for children too? 3children at 11 and 12 years old
Hi JoAnn, I answered some in your previous comment. It would be more cumbersome to take another form of public transit from downtown to Lake Union. I'd probably recommend you look at booking a taxi, shuttle service, or an uber xl.

I am so glad I found this blog the day we flew to Seattle. This was insanely helpful and saved us $200 round trip as we were there during multiple concerts. The pictures were super helpful too. Thank you for all the detailed work you provided in this! Seattle is a great city and I loved all the public transit they have.

Thanks for your info on the light rail, very helpful. Your note about SeaTac now being SEA is not really correct. SEA is the airport identifier or code, but the airport is still named Seattle Tacoma International Airport, or Sea Tac for short.

Hi Elizabeth, I'm glad you found my info helpful! Actually all of the branding is now SEA (they say the letters as their brand, it's not just the airport code). They only reference S-E-A and Seattle Tacoma International Airport (spelled out). SeaTac is no longer used in any branding or references by the port beyond the name of the Light Rail stop and city/neighborhood of SeaTac.

Best Ways to Get From Seattle Airport to Downtown Seattle
Millions of travelers fly into Seattle via Seattle-Tacoma International, also known as SeaTac or SEA Airport, every year (46 million in 2022 alone).
Many of them prefer to be based in the buzzing downtown area. That’s because the city center has all the top hotels, attractions, bars, and restaurants. It’s also the best area to use as a springboard if you’re keen to explore Seattle without a car .
These dependable transport options are the best ways to get from the Seattle airport to your desired destination in Seattle’s downtown area.
Link Light Rail (Sound Transit)
The “Emerald City” is growing rapidly, creating a need for reliable transport options to get visitors from and between the city’s most important locations, like SeaTac Airport.
In Seattle, there are several convenient options for transportation from the Seattle airport to downtown. Selecting the right one depends on your needs, preferences, and budget.
Speaking of budget, using the Link Light Rail is the most affordable way to get from SeaTac Airport to the downtown area. It’s traffic-free, quick, and easy.
The Link Light Rail, operated by Sound Transit , will take you from the airport to Westlake Station downtown. It runs every 10–15 minutes and is my top pick for convenience when traveling light (with relatively little luggage).
Unlike a traditional taxi or rideshare, the Link Light Rail won’t transport you directly to your hotel (or any other final destination). You’ll have to plan and organize a secondary transport option, like an Uber or a cab, to get you from Westlake Station to your accommodation after your train ride.
How? You’ll have to walk about 10 minutes from the airport terminal to the Link Light Rail station at SeaTac. After claiming your luggage, follow the easy signs leading to the Link Light Rail.
From the airport’s northern terminal, make your way up to the sky bridge level (which is one floor above). Use the fourth-floor connection at the airport’s parking garage, which acts as a walkway from International Boulevard. The parking garage takes you directly to the Link Light Rail station, where you can take the Light Rail from Seatac to downtown Seattle.
You can also use the free shuttle or electric cart service to make the short commute between the sky bridge and the Link Light Rail station when going from the Seattle Airport to downtown Seattle.
When you arrive at the station, purchase a pass at one of the ticket machines (or buy an ORCA card). You can also download the Transit GO Ticket mobile app to get your train ticket.
Use Google Maps to check which downtown Seattle stop is closest to your hotel so you can jump off the train at the most convenient location. This is a great way to save money on a 3-day Seattle trip .
Remember: One of the most important things about train services is that they run on set schedules. This might be a problem if you’re coming into town super early (e.g., 4 a.m.) or on a late flight (e.g., after 9 p.m.).
In such cases, a more direct service like a taxi or rideshare option (like Uber or Lyft) will fare better. Check the schedules to clarify your landing time and the Link Light Rail departure times.
The estimated travel times and prices that follow (for all options) are a general guide that excludes traffic and surge pricing.
Estimated travel time: 35 – 40 minutes
Estimated price: $3 (for adults aged 19–64 years). Youths aged 18 and under ride for free. Seniors and disabled riders can use the Regional Reduced Fare Permit (RRFP) for reduced travel fares.
Rideshare is one of the most comfortable ways to get from SeaTac Airport to Seattle’s city center, especially if you have a lot of luggage. Uber and Lyft are the most trusted services and are great for private rides to your hotel of choice.
There is a slight snag, however. Rideshares cost more money because you’re paying for the convenience of direct travel . What softens the pinch on your wallet is the daily, all-hours availability that rideshare options afford you.
This is also one of the safest ways to travel , which comes in handy at odd hours, like early morning and late night. While I do love the Light Rail, I always take an Uber directly home for late-night flights. Surprisingly, early morning and late night are suggested booking times if you love nifty airport hacks .
Rideshares can be tricky if you’re landing in Seattle during high-traffic periods. You’ll have to weigh the pros and cons by considering the particulars of your travel plans when taking an Uber from the Seattle airport to downtown.
How? Once you’ve picked up your bags, follow the signs to the airport’s ground transportation area near the parking garage. You’ll find the pick-up zone on the third floor, where the driver you booked via the relevant app should be waiting for you within the marked rideshare section.
Prices vary depending on your preferred service, your final destination, and your trip’s length. You’ll be stoked to know that rideshares like Uber and Lyft are usually more affordable than standard cab or taxi rides (see below) when looking for transportation from Seatac to downtown Seattle.
Estimated travel time: 20 – 25 minutes
Estimated price: $35 – $55
Cabs or Taxis
Cabs or taxis are a traditional mode of transport, so some people consider them a bit old-school. Even though they aren’t as popular as Ubers nowadays, they’re still an option for direct, private travel . This is one of the quickest ways to get from SeaTac to downtown Seattle.
There are two taxi options to consider at SeaTac Airport: metered taxis and flat-rate taxis . You’ll identify metered taxis by their solid (one) color and the 3-digit vehicle number. On the other hand, the flat-rate taxis are two colors with a 4-digit vehicle number.
Taxi fares are based on a calculated distance from your starting point to your endpoint. Most times, waiting times (like if you’re running late at the airport) and delays will be charged, which drives up the total amount owed for your trip. If you’re caught in traffic, that meter still runs, pushing up the total travel bill.
In Seattle, metered taxis charge between $2.50 and $2.70 per mile (additional pick-up charges may apply), so keep that in mind when considering a taxi from the Seattle airport to downtown.
The significant advantage of cabs or taxis (and ridesharing) is that you get the comfort and convenience of a 24/7 door-to-door service . This is also a winning option if you’re traveling with children. It beats the hassle of trying to manage little ones on public transit, like the Link Light Rail.
How? You’ll find SeaTac Airport’s taxi or cab area on the third floor of the parking garage at the north and south curbs of the airport. Just like you would with the rideshare option, follow the signs that will lead you to the designated taxi or cab zone after collecting your luggage.
If you need help or clarification (airports can be overwhelming, I know), try to find one of the airport attendants on duty. They are always happy to help passengers who need navigation and assistance connecting with their modes of transport.
As can be expected with private travel, prices depend on your chosen service and the total distance to your destination. This is not a cheap travel option, but it may suit your needs when traveling from the Seattle Airport to downtown Seattle.
Many people in a rush after their flight find this is the best way to get from the Seattle airport to downtown. You may also prefer this if you only have a one-day trip to Seattle and are short on time.
Estimated price: $45–$75

Similar to the experience you get with rideshare and taxis, shuttles offer an easy, no-fuss, direct commute from the airport to your chosen destination. Expect quality service with clean, well-maintained vehicles (although they do vary, depending on the company).
The drivers go the extra mile to ensure hospitality, like the small perks of luggage assistance. A lovely bonus is that most shuttles operate around the clock, making them easy to take a Seattle airport shuttle to downtown.
There are two standout shuttle options at SeaTac. The first is Premier Airport Shuttle (by Capital Aeroporter) which provides a shared ride service courtesy of their door-to-door vans.
The shuttle will transport you from the airport to your accommodation in Seattle. With limited stops, your trip is fast, efficient, and safe.
There is also a private non-stop van service, which is ideal for visitors traveling in a group (like a large family or friends) or jet setters with a lot of luggage. Booking a Premier Airport Shuttle ride online can get you up to 10% off your complete fare.
Premier Airport Shuttle fares are calculated based on the travel distance, the number of passengers, and your chosen service. The one thing you can be sure of is that shared ride shuttle services are cheaper than rideshare and taxis.
The second noteworthy service is Shuttle Express which offers non-stop private shuttles, luxury vans, SUVs, and high-end coaches (for groups). You can use the Shuttle Express App to manage your travel plans and reservations via your phone.
Shuttle Express fares depend on your destination’s zip code and the vehicle type you select.
How? To get to the SeaTac Ground Transportation Information Center, collect your luggage and follow the signs that lead to the airport’s ground transportation area on the parking garage’s third floor. The Transportation Information Center is where you’ll find the booths for the available shuttle services.
For Premier Airport Shuttles specifically: After collecting your bags, follow the signs to the third floor’s ground transportation plaza across Sky Bridge 4 in the airport’s parking garage.
For Shuttle Express services, enjoy your private chauffeur’s attention and assistance. They will meet you at the baggage claim area near the escalators closest to your aircraft’s arrival gate.
Remember: Some hotels offer complimentary airport shuttle services or charge a fee (sometimes included in your room rate). When booking your accommodation, it’s worth checking if they provide hotel pick-ups and drop-offs.
Estimated travel time: 20 – 30 minutes (depending on your chosen service and the number of stops)
Estimated price: Fares for shared shuttle rides start around $18 per person. Private, one-stop trips cost more. These prices vary depending on a number of factors, as explained above.
Visiting Seattle? You’ll want to know the unique Seattle gifts to get before you leave.
Car Rentals
Ah, the trusty car rental option for those who prefer to have their own temporary wheels to get from the airport to their accommodation and around town at their own pace.
This transportation method isn’t cheap but allows full control and independent travel . You won’t have any issues finding the right rental company because many popular ones operate at SeaTac Airport.
If you’re spending a few days in the city and want to indulge in a personalized experience, plan a four-day Seattle itinerary and use a rented car to get to the best activities.
If considering a car rental, bear in mind the parking costs at your hotel (and around the city). The price of gas can make a considerable dent in your travel budget, so be sure to factor that in as well. Hybrid cars are great for keeping fuel consumption relatively low.
Pro Tip: The downtown area is known for its steep hills (did someone say automatic transmission? Yes, please.) and tricky one-ways. Have Google Maps ready for expert navigation around the city if you’ll be exploring Seattle in a rented car.
How? To get from the airport to the off-site car rental facility, you must catch a free shuttle ride from outside the baggage claim level. You can wait for the shuttle at the terminal’s north end (near Alaska Airlines) or the south end (near international airlines).
Estimated price: Car rental prices start at $55 per day (depending on the company and the time of your booking)
Don’t forget to check out some of the most scenic views in Seattle before you leave!
Buying a Seattle CityPASS is a great way to save money on ticket costs, as you’ll be able to see multiple Seattle attractions for one price!
Tips for Traveling From Seattle Airport to Downtown Seattle
Traveling between airports and navigating to your desired destination can get a little crazy, especially if it’s your first time in a city. Use these tips to make your Seattle trip as smooth as possible.
- Deciding which transport option to use depends on affordability, accessibility, convenience, and reliability. Transport efficiency, safety, frequency, and user-friendliness also matter. It might seem like a lot to consider, but compare the different transport methods based on these factors. You’ll soon know which one best meets your personal needs and budget.
- SeaTac is well-marked, and the signs you need to get you where you need to be are clear enough. Make your way to the right level to access your chosen transport mode. The Link Light Rail station is on the fourth floor of the airport parking garage. Rideshare services, cabs/taxis, and shuttles can be found on the parking garage’s third floor. Car rentals are accessed off-site.
- Use any relevant mobile apps that will make planning and managing your travels less stressful. These include the Transit GO Ticket mobile app if you’re using the Link Light Rail and the Shuttle Express App if you’d like private shuttle travel. If you’ve opted to use a rented car to champion your way from SeaTac Airport to the downtown area (and beyond), make Google Maps your friend.
- Travelers with limited bags will save time and money by using the Link Light Rail to get from the airport to downtown Seattle. However, a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft is your best bet if you’ve got lots of luggage. Alternatively, consider a shared shuttle service. Large groups will be more comfortable in a private, non-stop shuttle service.
Now all you have to do is pick which method you’ll use to get from the Seattle Airport to downtown Seattle so you can start planning the rest of your trip!

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport 101: The best way to get to Sea-Tac
If you're flying out of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, there are plenty of ways to avoid traffic getting to the airport and make that flight from the eighth-busiest airport in the U.S.
The airport, known as Sea-Tac, is located about 15 miles south of Seattle and 20 miles north of Tacoma. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) serves about 50 million passengers a year. As of early 2020, 32 airlines operate at SEA, serving 91 nonstop domestic destinations and 29 international destinations, including seasonal operations. Alaska Airlines and Delta Air Lines are the top carriers for both domestic and international passengers.
To get to the airport, you can use light rail, bus, car, ride-hailing and ride-sharing services, taxi, shuttle van, limo and town car. If you bike there, there are spots to lock up as well.

Here's a rundown:
Public transportation
In 2018, Seattle ranked in the Top 10 for worst-traffic cities in North America, so if you're headed to or from downtown Seattle during many parts of the day, the Link Light Rail will be your fastest and least-expensive option.
Sound Transit's Link Light Rail currently runs from the City of SeaTac to downtown Seattle to the University of Washington -- with expansion plans in the future. The service operates from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m., Monday through Saturday; from 6 a.m. to midnight on Sundays.
Depending on the time of day, trains arrive and depart about every 6 to 15 minutes.
The SeaTac/Airport Station light rail is connected to the airport parking garage via a covered (but not totally enclosed) walkway (0.3 miles). A free Train-to-Plane shuttle cart for those with mobility issues or excess luggage operates daily from 5 a.m. to midnight.
Transit time on the Link Light Rail from the airport to downtown Seattle is about 35 minutes.
Buy tickets ($3) at the machine in the station or download and use the Transit GO Ticket mobile app to purchase a ticket on your phone. Day passes are available. You won't need to show your ticket to get on the light rail, but fare checkers often board trains to check tickets.
King County Metro and Sound Transit offers bus service to many other Puget Sound destinations . The King County Metro bus stop is by the Light Rail Station; Sound Transit buses pick up at the south end of the main terminal on the lower level. Details on the routes/cities served, fares and pick-up/drop-off locations are on the SEA airport website .
Ride-hailing and shared shuttle service
Uber, Lyft and Wingz are the three app-based ride-hailing services currently authorized to serve SEA airport.
These services may drop passengers off at the terminal on the upper (departure) or lower (arrival) roads but Lyft, Uber/UberX and Wingz may only pickup in the designated area on the third floor of the parking garage (by rows G through J in the orange and purple sections). Attendants are on duty to help passengers connect with rides.
Transit time between the airport and downtown Seattle can be anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic.
Ride-hailing fares between SEA and downtown Seattle range from $35 to over $50, depending on time of day and type of service.
Scheduled Airporters and shared shuttle vans, including Shuttle Express , also serve SEA airport. Fares for the Shuttle Express Downtown Airporter start at around $25 per person, with scheduled stops at a variety of downtown hotels, including Crown Plaza, Fairmont Olympic, Grand Hyatt, Hilton, Renaissance, Sheraton, Warwick and Westin. This is a good option if you have luggage and are going to one of these hotels or a destination nearby.
There are two taxi options at SEA airport: flat rate and metered.
Both flat rate and metered taxis wait for passengers on the third floor of the parking garage, on the north and south curbs.
Flat-rate taxis are bi-color vehicles with four-digit vehicle numbers and offer a flat price based on your destination's ZIP code.
Single-color taxi cabs have three-digit vehicle numbers and operate like traditional metered cabs with a drop price and per-mile charge.
Seattle Yellow Cab , Orange Cab and others offer a $40 flat rate from the Seattle's downtown hotel district to SEA airport. (At certain times a $1 gas surcharge may be applied). There is, however, no flat rate from the airport to downtown Seattle, but rates generally start a $40, depending on time of day.
Car service
Limos and town cars, pre-booked and booked-on-demand, are a more expensive option, of course, but also a convenient option.
STILA limos and town cars are available on the north and south curbs on the third floor of the parking garage, in an area designated as the Ground Transportation Plaza. STILA offers flat-rate fares to downtown Seattle for $45 and drivers may pick up passengers curbside if requested.
Many other limo services, including Blacklane, serve SEA airport as well, but only STILA has cars officially stationed in the transportation plaza.
Other options
If you're renting a car, board a shuttle outside the bag-claim level at either the north end of the terminal (by Alaska Airlines) or the south end (by the international airlines) for a short ride to the off-site rental car facility . Shuttles operate 24 hours a day.
If family or friends offer to pick you up at the airport, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport has a cellphone lot with 200 parking spaces, free Wi-Fi, free parking for up to 20 minutes and electric charging stations.
Bottom line
There are a variety of options for getting to and from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), including public transportation, taxis, limos, shared shuttle vans, rental cars and, of course, friends and family willing to make the drive.
You best option may be determined by budget, traffic, time of day and the amount of luggage or number of kids you've got in tow.

Public Transportation
To quickly and comfortably reach your destination in downtown Seattle from the Seattle Airport, try out public transportation options. Light rail service, bus service, and taxi service are popular and efficient choices for travelers. This section explains how to use these different modes of transportation to reach downtown and also highlights the benefits of each option.
Light Rail Service
A modern railway system that operates with light rail vehicles is an efficient public transportation service. These trains utilize electricity as their main power source and move on tracks either above or below the ground level. Light Rail Service offers a comfortable and eco-friendly ride to passengers, especially in urban areas where heavy traffic is a problem.
Compared to traditional trains, Light Rail Service has a lower capacity limit, which allows for better flexibility in routes. This feature makes it possible for train stations to be set up exactly where they are needed most, even in congested areas. While this company faced regulatory challenges in some areas due to concerns about safety and proper licensing, it has continued to expand globally and offers various services like uberPOOL for cost-effective shared rides and Uber Eats for food delivery.
Notably, this platform also has an option for riders to choose wheelchair accessible vehicles . This ensures that people with disabilities have equal access to transportation services .

Lyft, because sometimes the best way to make new friends is by hopping into a stranger’s car.
As a ride-sharing service, this platform offers an affordable and convenient way for users to get around their city. Tiny detail but you'll be heading *down* (not up) to get to Portland from Seattle... south.
igardyloo has the best suggestions. I can think of ideas for day trips from the Seattle area but mine are heading west or north so don't really work for getting back to Portland.
There's also Willamette Valley down Oregon way, with some pretty countryside, wineries, etc.
May at Rainier will have snow up at Paradise, but the lower trails near Longmire will be snowfree, and on a beautiful day you may not mind the lack of alpine hiking options as the scenery will be stunning.

I used to sneak into an airport to sleep before $64 per month tiny home saved me – but now I could lose it over $626 fee

A WOMAN who previously lived in an airport is fearing homelessness again due to an eviction at her rent-subsidized tiny home in Washington.
Stephanie Austin used to sneak into Seattle-Tacoma Airport for some rest when she had nowhere else to go.
Eventually, she was able to move into a supported housing unit with Plymouth Housing, where she has had a stable home since 2022.
But now, Austin is facing eviction at her Seattle tiny home due to unpaid rent that she said she could not pay due to a cut in her hours at work, according to the Seattle Times .
Austin worked as a part-time cashier and cook at sports stadiums, and community representatives initially determined she could afford to pay $64 a month in rent.
The problems began for Austin shortly after she moved into her new tiny home.

Her job cut her hours — a regular happening for part-time and low-income workers.
Soon the 45-year-old could no longer afford her monthly payment, and the overdue rent and fees piled up.
Now she is facing eviction over the $626 she owes, with little hope of finding a cheaper alternative.
Plymouth representatives told the Seattle Times that they have evicted four tenants since 2022 and are in the process of filing eviction paperwork for another 71 people.

They said they cannot comment on Austin's case but that they decided last month to no longer evict tenants with zero income.
A LACK OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING
The upheaval of the COVID-19 pandemic combined with record-setting rates of inflation in recent years has created a lack of affordable housing for many working Americans.
The Seattle Housing Authority reported a threefold increase in tenants with overdue rent over the last four years, a trend reflected in national statistics as well.
“This is the first time that I have ever seen such high percentages of nonpayment of rent,” said Denise Muha, executive director of the National Leased Housing Association, representing low-income housing organizations nationwide .
Researchers said that 23% of renters in Seattle are currently past due on their monthly fees.
Some housing providers have argued that this is because people got used to having housing subsidies during the pandemic.
“It’s kind of conditioned people not to pay,” said Michael Bailey, executive director of Compass Housing Alliance, a homelessness services and affordable housing provider.
“We see people receiving income and not putting that to rent.”

But many housing advocates disagree.
“They’re just unable, actually, to pay rent because the rents have been increasing so quickly,” said Maiko Winkler-Chin, director of the Seattle Office of Housing.
The median home prices in many areas like Seattle have shot up in recent years, making it impossible for some low-earners to pay on time.

Airlines must now pay automatic refunds for canceled flights
Airlines will now have to provide automatic refunds to travelers if flights are canceled or significantly altered under new U.S. Department of Transportation rules, a significant change for consumers that could drive up costs across the industry.
The final regulations released Wednesday outline the circumstances where passengers are entitled to refunds for all travel to, from and within the U.S. The goal is to make it easier for people to get money back and to make refund policies more consistent from one airline to the next.
According to the department, complaints related to airlines and ticket agents rejecting or delaying refunds made up 87% of all air-travel service complaints at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
“Passengers deserve to get their money back when an airline owes them — without headaches or haggling,” Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in a statement.
Under the new rule, passengers will be entitled to refunds if there is a “significant change” to their flights. These include:
—Departure or arrival time that moves by more than three hours domestically or six hours for international flights
—Being downgraded to a lower class than originally purchased, as from first class to economy
—Change of departure or arrival airport
—Increase in number of connections
—Changes to connecting airports or planes flown if they are less accommodating for people with disabilities
Travelers will also get refunds for checked bag fees if the bag is lost and not delivered within 12 hours of a domestic flight’s gate arrival. International flights will have from 15 to 30 hours to return a lost bag, depending on their length.
Anyone who pays for a service, such as in-flight Wi-Fi or entertainment, and doesn’t receive it will also get their money back.
In addition, DOT made changes to make it easier for the passengers to receive the money they’re owed by requiring prompt automatic refunds in cash or through the original form of payment. Buttigieg said during a news conference at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Wednesday that the bulk of the new requirements will go into effect in about six months.
The refund changes are poised to add significant costs across the airline industry, which could have a disproportionate impact on low-cost carriers, according to Seaport Research analyst Daniel McKenzie. “To the extent low cost carriers have to add costs to comply, reduce growth and/or downsize, they become less competitive,” McKenzie said in a note.
The Airlines for America trade group said in a statement that its member carriers already abide by and often exceed regulation on consumer protection.
“U.S. airlines are providing more options and better services while ticket prices, including ancillary revenues, are at historic lows,” the group said in a release.
Also on Wednesday, the department released a final rule requiring airlines to clearly communicate their extra fees upfront for checked luggage, carry-on bags or for canceling or changing reservations. According to DOT, airlines saw a 30% increase in revenue from baggage fees between 2018 and 2022.
“Airlines should compete with one another to secure passengers’ business — not to see who can charge the most in surprise fees,” Buttigieg said in a separate statement, adding that the rule will save travelers more than half a billion dollars a year.
Buttigieg told reporters at the news conference that more rules are on the way, including to expand rights for passengers who use wheelchairs and to allow parents to sit with their children on flights without being charged a fee.
DOT will also continue to pursue more aggressive enforcement when airlines violate rules, he said, pointing to the department’s $140 million record fine against Southwest Airlines Co. for a meltdown in its operations that left more than 2 million passengers stranded in December 2022.
“The level of toughness reflected in the Southwest enforcement is not an exception, but the new standard,” Buttigieg said.
