Before your adventure begins, you'll want to decide what type of bag(s) to pack. To determine the type of luggage you'll need, consider:

• How many days will you be traveling? If you're traveling for a week or longer, you may want to bring a large suitcase that can be checked in at the airport, or perhaps a complete luggage set . For a shorter trip, a carry-on and personal item (such as a backpack or small weekender bag ) should be sufficient.

The Ultimate Travel Packing Checklist for 2024 and the Best Vacation Packing Tips (Printable)

Before taking a vacation, it’s a good idea plan. In addition to planning your itinerary, you also need to figure out what you will pack. Taking the time to sort out what you need to bring before you leave is an excellent way to prepare well for your trip. What to Consider Before You Pack

Before you begin packing, it’s best to think more about the trip you will be taking. After all, not all trips are the same, and some trips may require different items.

Here are some things to consider:

• What bags to bring: Your travel plans and airline’s baggage policy may dictate what bags you bring. Knowing what bags you plan to bring before you begin packing is a must. That way, you can strategize and not overpack based on the luggage space available. 
• Number of travel days: You want to have plenty of clothes and essentials for your entire trip. Make sure that you pack plenty of items for the number of days you plan to travel. If you’re staying in a home rental with laundry facilities, you may be able to pack less and do laundry during your trip. If you prefer to pack light, check to see if you’ll have access to laundry facilities or if there is a laundromat near your accommodation. 
• The weather situation: You want to make sure that you pack clothes that will be comfortable for the weather. Check the expected temperature, see if there will be rain or snow, and let this information guide you when packing. If you don’t pack appropriate clothing and gear, you may have to spend money when you arrive or risk being very uncomfortable. If you have room, bring a compact umbrella.
• The type of trip you plan to have: Your planned activities and travel style will also dictate what you need to pack. If you’re all about comfort and hope to lounge around a lot, you may not need to pack many dress clothes. If you’re an adventure seeker who plans to participate in recreational activities, athletic attire and appropriate shoes are necessary. 
• What you can buy at your destination: Some items may make more sense to buy at your destination. For example, if you’re only bringing a carry-on bag, you might decide to buy a bottle of full-size sunscreen after you arrive. When creating your packing list, note items that you can easily buy at your destination to avoid wasting space.

How to Decide Which Items to Put in Which Bags

When it comes time to pack for your trip, take some time to think about which bag each item will go in; for example, if you’re planning to check luggage, some things may make more sense to go in your checked bag rather than your carry-on bag. Additionally, some items may not be allowed in your carry-on bag—such as full-sized liquid products.  

If you take any medication or have other essential items that you’re packing, those items should stay close to you—such as in a carry-on bag or personal item, like a backpack or purse. Checked bags may get lost or delayed, and you don’t want to be without essential medications or other necessary items. If you’re packing medications, the TSA recommends they be clearly labeled. 

As you pack your carry-on bag, It’s also a good idea to bring at least one change of clothes with you. If something happens to your checked baggage, you’ll be thankful that you have some clothes to change into after traveling. 

If you’re traveling with a laptop or another electronic device, like an iPad, keep those items in an easy-to-access place (like upfront or in a laptop pocket). These items will need to be removed from your carry-on bag, purse, or backpack during security screening. If they’re not accessible, it will take you longer to get through security, and you’ll hold up the line.

Packing Liquids

As you prepare for your trip, don’t forget to consider which liquids you’ll need to bring. If you’re bringing some checked luggage, you’ll need to consider which liquid items will go in your checked bag vs your carry-on luggage. 

If you plan to pack liquids in your carry-on bag, they must be in containers that are 3.4 ounces or less. They also need to fit in one quart-sized resealable bag. If you’re traveling with multiple people, each person can have one quart-sized resealable bag with appropriately sized liquids. Ensure that all containers are sealed well, so you don’t have a mess all over your suitcase and belongings. 

When you go through the security screening process at the airport, you’ll need to remove your bag of liquids and place it in a bin; You do not have to remove your liquids if you have TSA PreCheck or Global Entry . To conserve space, focus on packing liquids that you need. Most hotels and some home rentals provide essentials like shampoo, conditioner, and soap. Before packing, check to see what will be provided at your accommodation.

Packing Shoes

Most people plan to bring more than one pair of shoes when traveling. If you have several pairs of shoes that you want to bring, you may be worried about wasting space. But if you’re strategic, you can pack several shoes and make it work. 

One way to save on space is to use the empty area inside your shoes to your advantage. You can fill your shoes with smaller items such as socks, underwear, and belts. If you’re worried about dirty shoes, put disposable shower caps on the bottoms of your shoes. If you don’t have these, you can use smaller plastic bags to protect your clothes from dirt.

Ideas to Maximize Space

If you’re looking to maximize the space that you have available, you may be wondering how to pack your items to save room. Here are some techniques that may help: 

Packing cubes: Some travelers use packing cubes for their clothing items and accessories. These cubes can help by slightly compressing your items, so they take up a bit less space in your bag. If you’ve never tried packing cubes, it may be worthwhile to give them a chance. 

Rolling instead of folding: Another option to consider is rolling your clothes. This does take time,  but you may find that you’re able to fit more items in your bag this way. Just make sure that you remember to roll your clothes back up when packing up to head home. 

Choose versatile clothing items: You can also save on space by strategically choosing which clothing items you bring. Consider packing versatile clothing items that work well for multiple outfits. As an example, packing clothing with neutral colors is a great idea. You can wear items multiple times without it looking obvious. Doing this will make it easier to mix and match outfits, and you may find that you can pack fewer items. 

Buy some items at your destination: If you only have so much space to work with, buying some things at your destination may be the best bet. Make sure that you consider cost and availability before choosing to do this.

• Do laundry while traveling. If at all possible, do laundry while traveling. Whether you stay in a home rental with laundry facilities or stop at a laundromat, this can help reduce the number of clothes you need to pack.
• Don’t overpack. It can be easy to overpack accidentally. Focus on what you truly need instead of bringing “maybe” items.
• Ensure your house is in order. Before leaving, make sure all of your lights are off and your alarm system is set if you have one. Other things to do include watering your plants, taking out the trash, setting automatic pet feeders, and notifying your credit card companies of your travel.

Yes, you can travel with liquids. Liquid containers must be no larger than 3.4 ounces, and all liquid containers must fit in one resealable quart-sized bag. If you want to bring larger liquid items, they must be packed in checked baggage.

32 Top International Packing List Items for 2024 + What to Wear & NOT to Bring

International travel opens up doors to entirely new worlds. The ideal packing list for travel abroad will obviously depend on factors like where you’re going, what season you’re traveling in, what you plan to do, how you prefer to get around, and how long you’ll be away.

That said, there are lots of things I rarely go abroad without regardless of the destination! So I put together this international packing checklist to encompass the world. Below, you’ll find a list of things NOT to bring, as well as tips about what to wear and common FAQs to make your trip a success.

Of course, any trip will be better with a healthy dose of patience, humility, and adventure – so consider them part of the ultimate packing list!

International Packing List – 32 Essentials

1. packing cubes.

Packing cubes are high on my list of what to pack for even exploring domestically because they really help with staying organized on the road. Instead of constantly digging to the bottom of your bag in search of that missing sock or the one clean shirt you have left, you can just pull out the appropriate cube since they’re all labeled and color-coordinated for each family member.

2. Water Bottle with Built-in Filter

Especially in warmer climates, staying hydrated can be a challenge for travelers. While bottled water is available almost everywhere, relying on it gets pricey and creates a ton of plastic waste. Instead, bring a water bottle to refill with tap water. Pro tip: since airplanes are also extremely dehydrating, take the bottle in your carry-on and fill it up after passing through security.

3. Virtual Private Network (VPN)

You’re bound to connect to a hotel or restaurant’s wifi when traveling overseas, so keep your digital information safe with a VPN like NordVPN . Most people don’t know that you should always be using a virtual private network (VPN) to keep all of your digital information secure while using public wifi networks. It keeps your private info safe and encrypted from hackers so you don’t have to worry about your credit cards, passwords, or other confidential information getting stolen. 4. Universal Power Adapter

Especially if you’re coming from North America, you’ll need a power adapter almost anywhere in the world. 5. Jet Lag Relief

Any drawn-out flights or layovers can leave your circadian rhythm out of whack! Jet lag reliefs are a brilliant supplement that I discovered a few years back and now can’t live without. Using chamomile and other botanicals, it’s a much more natural method for regulating your exhaustion than with caffeine or other stimulants.

6. Quick-Dry Travel Towel

In some parts of the world – hostels and guesthouses don’t necessarily provide towels free of charge, so you’ll want to bring your own. Plus, regular bath towels are super bulky and take forever to dry, so leave them at home and bring this travel towel that dries 10x faster than cotton. 7. Travel Insurance For International Travel

Omitting insurance is one of the biggest mistakes I see travelers make. Since your at-home provider generally covers you domestically, you are typically not covered once you travel overseas. This means that a medical bill or simple fee could become exponentially more expensive when paying out-of-pocket (doing six-figure damage in some cases, which would be difficult to recover from).

8. Comfortable Walking Shoes

Most travel plans include lots of walking and international towns can range from gravel to cement to cobblestone. Wearing that pair of cute-but-less-than-practical shoes will inevitably leave you miserable by the end of the day. So bring a pair of shoes that are decent-looking but comfortable for walking, and your feet will thank you.

9. Neck Wallet

You’ll obviously need your passport no matter where you’re going, and it’s one thing you really don’t want to lose. A neck wallet like this one will protect it, and keep other valuables organized, too. They’re much less likely to get stolen than a regular wallet, and you can also carry cash, credit cards, and a cell phone in one place. I wear mine under my shirt when we’re going through crowded areas so pickpockets have zero chance getting my valuables, plus it has RFID-blocking material to stop e-thieves from scanning your credit card numbers.

10. Activated Charcoal

You might be surprised to see charcoal on a packing list for vacation, but it’s great to have on hand in case you get sick (especially since anything from fine dining to tap water can give you food poisoning). Taking the tablets when you start to feel an upset stomach will absorb the toxins in your system and help stop the dreaded diarrhea. This way you can spend more time enjoying your vacation rather than dealing with distress in the bathroom.

11. Waterproof Phone Case

If you’re staying along the coast or plan to do any boating excursions, jungle hikes, pool days, or anything near water – bring along this universal waterproof phone case. It’s not worth it to gamble with your lifeline when this one is so affordable and compatible with most smartphones. It protects your device from moisture, sand, and scratches while also allowing you to film underwater videos (with sound!)

12. Flotation Strap

Don’t forget to attach a flotation strap to your phone, keys, or devices. It is durable and vivid so you won’t risk losing your items or being unable to spot them. I once was photographing a flower on a lake and dropped my phone right in! If it were the Caribbean, I might’ve been able to find it… But the water was foggy and my waterproof case didn’t matter because it sunk right to the bottom. Learn from my mistake and know that buoyant is best!

13. Hanging Toiletries Bag

Many parts of the world will not come with tons of storage space or large countertops. If you have nowhere to put your stuff, like in European water closets, on a cruise ship, or at a camping site – I recommend using this hanging toiletry bag.

15. Windproof Travel Umbrella

No international packing list is complete without a travel umbrella. You want to be prepared for all types of weather and if it happens to rain you still want to be able to get out and explore while staying dry. A good travel umbrella is compact, sturdy, and keeps you dry. This one checks all the boxes and is replaceable in case of damage.

Once youve been lost without a charged phone, you’ll understand the value of a backup power bank. 19. Gorgeous Outfit

20. Cooling Towels

A cooling towel can be a lifesaver on trips where you’re spending a lot of time in the heat and exposed to the sun. They’re small and easy to fit into any bag and can cool you down instantly. All you do is wet the towel, wring it out, and it becomes 20-30 degrees cooler than the outside air temperature for up to an hour. A scientific anomaly, but you won’t want to travel anywhere warm without it!

21. Mosquito-Repellent Wristbands

Mosquitos and sand gnats can be a huge problem in destinations with water. Especially in rainforests, tropical areas, or places with still fresh water, you will find these little vampires coming out in packs at dusk and dawn! Mosquito-borne illnesses still exist, so it’s advised to protect yourself with mosquito repellent. This brand is natural and we love that it can be worn as a bracelet so we don’t have to respray toxic fumes all day. They are safe for kids but you can double up with a spray if you prefer, just ensure it’s deet-free .

22. Lightweight Backpack

It’s nice to have a backpack with you that’s made of a duffle-like material that can fold down compactly. This travel backpack is super lightweight and takes up virtually no space when empty, but can hold your essentials during day-to-day excursions. A tote or a purse may not cut it, so you’ll appreciate the extra storage.

23. Reef-Safe Sunscreen

In some parts of the world, sunscreen is notoriously hard to come by and extremely expensive when it’s available. But it’s really not something you want to skimp on, so make sure to bring some with you, regardless of where you’re going. This brand is octinoxate & oxybenzone-free, meaning it’s safer for both you and marine life. In some countries, it’s actually mandated to use reef-safe sunscreen, so making the switch is worthwhile.

24. Hangover Prevention

With all the Italian Chianti or South-of-the-boarder Margaritas – your international travel could lead to a headache the next morning. Even if you only have one or two drinks, hot areas can increase dehydration and you don’t want to find yourself dragging on a day meant for exploring. These supplements use vitamins and liver-detoxing herbs like milk thistle to remove alcohol from the body more quickly. Lyric and I aren’t big drinkers but we’ve heard they really work, making pub tours and vineyard stops a whole lot easier!

A sarong might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you’re thinking about what to pack on a trip, but they’re actually a great travel item. Sarongs are lightweight, dry quickly, and can be used for tons of things: a scarf, sheet, towel, curtain, picnic blanket, swimsuit cover-up, the list goes on!

26. Motion Sickness Patches

If you’re prone to motion sickness or seasickness, I recommend using these motion sickness relief patches. My wife field-tested a variety of brands and this was by far the most effective product! Stick one or two behind your ear and you’ll keep nausea and dizziness at bay.

27. First-Aid Kit

Bringing a first-aid kit when you travel is a good way to be prepared for minor problems. If you’re planning on hiking or spending time in the water, it’s especially important to be able to care for things like cuts, scrapes, and blisters to prevent infection. This kit is small and lightweight but will keep you more than covered with gauze pads, adhesive tape, various bandages, and other basics.

28. Stylish Rain Jacket

Most areas of the world receive rain fairly frequently. A stylish raincoat is nice to have in locations like Paris, London, NYC, Canada, etc. where the fashion styles might be more sophisticated. This look gives off major elegance but still feels casual. It serves as a hooded windbreaker and trench coat, overall combining practicality with quality.

29. Packable “Just in Case” Bag

In French, the word ‘souvenirs’ literally translates to ‘memories.’ And you’ll want to bring home plenty of souvenirs from your global travels! This “just in case” bag is for those treats, liquors, handcrafted goods, spices, and authentic items you may pick up along the way. It’s super lightweight and will count as your personal item on the flight home!

30. Deodorant Wipes

Jetsetting, island hopping, and wanderlusting your way through the world can get tiring… and lead to sweat! You don’t want to feel stinky on long plane days or while sightseeing in new places. I carry these deodorant wipes for the family because they come in single packets that fit in a wallet or pocket. They’re all-natural, refreshing, and simply delightful on a hot day! This brand uses prebiotics to mitigate odor and calm the skin.

31. Electrolytes

If you get sick while traveling, you’ll lose a lot of liquids and could end up at risk of dehydration, so mix these tablets with (clean!) water to replenish your electrolytes. In tropical environments, it can be hard to stay hydrated even if you’re not sick, so using them on a regular basis can really supercharge your water. Electrolyte tablets are available in many places, but unless you enjoy the flavor of chalk, this brand tastes much better than most and will be cheaper.

32. Compression Flight Socks

International flights can mean 10+ hours in the sky. Between the cabin pressure, high altitudes, and lack of physical movement – compression socks are a wise choice. They will increase your circulation and prevent blood clots while in the sky (which is much more likely on flights longer than 4 hours). This is why flight attendants wear stockings or tights. You’ll be happy to have them and they’re very surprisingly comfy!

What Should I Wear When Traveling Internationally?

For any tropical climate, you’ll definitely be more comfortable in lightweight fabrics but might need a light sweater or jacket for evenings and chilly A/C. In environments that are dusty or muddy, avoid wearing white since it’s next to impossible to keep clean.

If you’re visiting conservative countries – especially in Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia – it’s important to dress modestly. Appropriate dress for women usually means covering the shoulders, cleavage, thighs, and knees. In the most conservative areas, women should also avoid tight-fitting fabrics and choose tops that fall below the hips. Foreign women are really only expected to wear a headscarf in a few countries, although wearing one may help you feel more comfortable.

What NOT to Bring on Your International Trip

1. don’t take unnecessary electronics:.

Beyond the things you know you’ll be using, like a camera or Kindle, it’s a good idea to leave expensive electronics at home. Things can get lost or stolen on the road, and there’s no reason to risk it.

2. DON’T BRING lots of cash:

You’ll find ATMs almost everywhere, so there’s no need to bring a ton of cash with you. You don’t want to have to carry it around all the time, and you’ll likely get a better exchange rate by using an ATM anyway.

3. DON’T PACK heavy books:

Books are one of the heaviest things you could pack, and even just one or two will take up significant space in your bag. Instead of bringing physical books, invest in a Kindle – your back will thank you.

4. DON’T BRING too many clothes:

Most people tend to overestimate the amount of clothes they need for a trip (and end up with heavy bags to lug around). Try to limit yourself to a few outfits, and know that you can always do laundry if you need to.

5. DON’T TAKE a sleeping bag:

Sleeping bags are huge and heavy, and there’s rarely a real need for them. Unless you’re planning on doing extensive camping and know that you’ll need your own gear, a travel sheet is probably a better option.

6. DON’T PACK a mosquito net:

Some travel packing lists for developing countries include mosquito nets, but it’s really not worth bringing one. Most accommodations provide nets if they’re needed, and it’s generally not feasible to hang up your own anyway.

7. DON’T BRING expensive jewelry:

Wearing flashy jewelry, especially in places where you stick out as a foreigner, can make you a target for thievery. If you have jewelry that’s expensive or sentimental, it’s not worth the risk of it getting stolen or lost on the road.

8. DON’T TAKE a bath towel:

Regular towels are bulky and slow to dry, which makes them less than ideal for travel. Leave them at home, and bring a quick-dry towel on your trip instead.

FAQs About International Travel

1. is it safe for women to travel alone.

Yes! The idea that “women shouldn’t travel alone” is nothing but an old myth. Plenty of women travel solo all over the world with no problems – and many even say it’s the best thing they’ve ever done. Of course, both men and women inevitably encounter risks on the road (and at home, for that matter), and you should always use common sense and be aware of your surroundings. Research travel warnings while planning your trip and heed the advice of travelers who’ve been to your destination recently.

2. How can I contact friends and family at home while I’m abroad?

In most places, Wi-Fi is increasingly available in hotels and cafes, giving travelers regular access to email, social media, and Skype. Travelers can often purchase a local SIM card and pre-paid phone credit upon arrival, allowing for phone calls, texting, and smartphone apps as well. Friends and family who want to call your local phone number should use Skype or purchase an international calling card for your destination.

3. Can I travel abroad if I only speak English?

Absolutely. Many people who travel abroad only speak English; in fact, except in countries that use romance languages, very few people speak the local language in places they visit. In most countries, at least some people working in the tourism and hospitality industry speak English, and gesturing will get you further than you might think otherwise. That said, learning at least a few basic phrases in the language will earn you favor with local people in most places.

4. How can I avoid getting sick while traveling?

Make sure you get any vaccines that are needed for the countries you’ll be visiting and pick up malaria prophylaxis if it’s recommended. If you’re traveling in places where mosquito-borne illnesses are prevalent, you’ll want to use insect repellent and sleep under a mosquito net whenever possible. You’ll also need to check to see if the tap water in your destination is potable; if not, be careful to drink only treated water and avoid other drinks made with tap water (or ice made from tap water), as well as raw fruits and vegetables that can’t be peeled.

5. What are the cheapest places to travel?

The cost of different countries depends on your travel style and what kinds of activities you plan to do while traveling. For the most part, though, developing countries are cheaper than developed ones, andSouth and Southeast Asia are generally the cheapest regions, followed by Central America and Eastern Europe.

6. How can I save money when traveling?

In addition to frequenting budget-friendly destinations, a good way to save money on the road is to live at the typical local standard – use public transportation instead of taxis or car rentals, stay in guesthouses instead of resorts or international hotels, and eat at local restaurants instead of touristy ones. To save more on accommodations, you can also look into alternative options, like CouchSurfing, Airbnb, homestays, hostels, and camping. And to further cut down on food expenses, one option is to purchase groceries for some of your meals instead of eating out three times a day. If you’re going to be traveling extensively, it’s also worth opening an account at a bank that doesn’t charge ATM or currency conversion fees, like Charles Schwab or Capital One.

7. What should I tell my parents who are worried about me traveling?

What aspiring traveler hasn’t dealt with a worried parent, convinced their child will be afflicted by disease, terrorism, or murder if they dare to cross the border? It’s true that some parents will grasp onto this belief no matter what, but others may be consoled by some facts and precautions. For example, over 70 million Americans travel abroad every year –about a quarter of the country’s population. Announcing your travel plans is also a good time to remind your parents that most places are very different in reality than they appear in the media. It might help to direct them to first-hand accounts of travel in the countries you’re planning to visit, especially if they do not have a great reputation at home. Taking precautions like purchasing travel insurance, sharing a copy of your itinerary, and showing that you’ve done some research on your destination might allay their concerns as well.

8. How can I meet people on the road?

Fortunately, in most cases, it’s not nearly as hard to meet people while traveling as you might think. One of the easiest ways to meet people is to stay at a hostel, which are social by nature. Even if a bunk in a shared dorm doesn’t appeal to you, most hostels also have private rooms, which still allow you to take advantage of the common spaces where people hang out. Participating in activities – like hikes, walking tours, day trips, classes, or pub crawls – is another very easy way to meet fellow travelers. There is also an increasing number of apps that exist to connect travelers with each other and with locals: MeetUp, Couchsurfing, WithLocals, EatWith, TravBuddy, and Bumble BFF, just to name a few. And don’t forget the power of social media. Joining travel-focused Facebook groups, asking your own network if they have friends in the places you’re visiting, and searching hashtags on Twitter and Instagram can all lead to new connections on the road.

9. Will my cell phone work abroad?

Depending on your company and plan, as well as where you’re from, your cell phone from home may work in other countries, but will likely charge huge fees for calls, texts, and data use. A better option is to put a local SIM card in your phone when you arrive, or keep your smartphone on airplane mode and only use it on Wi-Fi.

10. How can I find cheap flights?

One of the most common pieces of advice is to set your browser to private or incognito mode before searching for tickets. If you repeatedly search the same route in your browser’s regular mode, you’ll likely see the price go up. It’s also a good idea to check multiple search engines and compare their prices; Skyscanner, Google Flights, Kayak, Momondo, and CheapOair are good places to start. If your travel dates aren’t set in stone, use the “flexible dates” feature to compare prices for a week’s worth of flights. Many search engines don’t include budget carriers, though, so if they’re not showing up, check their websites separately. Low-cost airlines to keep in mind include JetBlue, Frontier, and Spirit in the U.S.; Ryanair, EasyJet, and Wizz Air in Europe; and Air Asia, Tiger Air, and Spice Jet in Asia.

For long-haul trips, check before you book to see if it’s cheaper to buy separate legs of the trip individually (but do be aware that you’re unlikely to receive assistance from the airline in the event of a missed connection). Similarly, always check to see if buying two one-way tickets is cheaper than a round trip. Finally, if you’re not pressed to book right away, set up a fare alert on Skyscanner or Airfare Watchdog to keep you up-to-date on the price of flights you’re interested in.

COVID-19 travel guidance 

Travel restrictions related to COVID-19 vary greatly and constantly change, meaning the decision to travel—and the process of traveling—isn’t as straightforward as it used to be. Last year, we added the COVID-19 travel guidance feature to show you the latest COVID-19 travel guidelines, restrictions, and requirements—alongside infection rates—for the destinations you’re visiting. 

You can also find destination-specific information about vaccination rates and requirements, approved vaccines, testing requirements, and exemptions for vaccinated travelers. 

TripIt Pro users can also search for the latest COVID-19 travel guidance by destination, so you can see these details in advance of adding a plan to TripIt.

Inbox Sync 

Inbox Sync connects your Gmail, Google Workspace, Yahoo! Mail, and Outlook inboxes with your TripIt account.

Once connected, your travel plans are automatically added to your TripIt account. You never have to remember to forward an email to plans@ (though that works, too!). TripIt will scan your inbox(es) for travel plans, then automatically import them into TripIt.  

International Travel Tools 

TripIt Pro makes international travel easier by showing logistics such as embassy information, currency conversions, socket and plug requirements, required vaccinations, tipping advice, and more in our International Travel Tools feature. 

Next time you travel internationally with TripIt, you will notice a passport button on your trip summary. Simply tap on it to find an array of tips and tools customized specifically to the country you are traveling to.

Gone are the days of toggling back and forth between your digital boarding pass and TripIt app as you multitask your way through the airport. 

The Documents feature enables you to upload PDFs, photos, boarding pass and mobile passport QR codes to your travel plans—and of course, your new air travel checklist—so everything is in one place. You can add attachments to the Details screen for your flight, lodging, car rental, activity, and other trip items.

Share your TripIt itinerary

To share your travel plans from the app, simply click the share icon on your itinerary to share your travel plans via text or email. You can also select individual (or multiple) trip plans within a TripIt itinerary and send them via text, Slack, WhatsApp, or your favorite messaging app. You can also choose to add people as viewers, editors, or travelers on your trip, and they will see updates to your itinerary in real time.

As a TripIt Pro member, you can add people to your Inner Circle , and we’ll do the sharing for you. New trips are conveniently shared to your Inner Circle as soon as they’re posted in your account. When you’d prefer not to share travel plans, simply select “Do not share with Inner Circle” when creating the trip.  

Airport Maps 

All TripIt users can view airport and terminal maps right in the app to help you navigate to your gate and more. 

TripIt Pro members can also access even more Interactive Airport Maps to quickly and easily navigate your way around the airport, with step-by-step directions, walking times, search options, dynamic 3D detail, and more. 

In pace with the times, we’ve added amenities related to health and safety to Interactive Airport Maps. For available airports, TripIt Pro users can search interactive maps for the locations of COVID-19 testing sites, stores that sell face coverings, hand sanitizer stations, and personal protective equipment (PPE) vending machines—all right in the app. 

Interactive airport maps are available to TripIt Pro users for more than 105 global airports. 

Baggage claim alert

TripIt Pro members can receive flight status notifications via email, push, and SMS. Upon arrival, TripIt flight alerts will tell you what time your flight arrived at its destination and will display your baggage claim information if available.

Our Navigator feature helps you get from point A to point B more easily with a search tool that shows you the transportation options available to you. It will also show you the estimated costs and travel times for each option, so you can decide which works best. You can find Navigator within your flight, hotel, activity booking, and rental car details screens.

Nearby Places 

Whether you’re looking for a place to eat, drink, pick up supplies, or seek medical care, TripIt’s Nearby Places feature makes it easy to find places close to where you’re staying. 

Should you need medical help while traveling, our enhanced Nearby Places makes it easy to find hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies close to where you’re staying. 

The feature will give you the medical facility’s contact details, hours, and more. TripIt will also show you an interactive map with each option tagged so you can see where it is in relation to your accommodations. Then, you can easily get directions or tap the plus (+) sign to save the information for later.  

Neighborhood Safety Scores

TripIt’s Neighborhood Safety Scores feature helps you learn about the safety of the neighborhood they’re visiting. You can access hyperlocal safety ratings along any point within your TripIt itinerary for more than 65,000 cities and neighborhoods for both daytime and nighttime. 

This helps you visualize and gain an understanding of current safety conditions by location. Among the safety categories, you can view a health and medical score —which factors in COVID-19 data—for the area you’re visiting.

Since safety looks different to everyone, we enabled the ability to set a personal risk level within the Neighborhood Safety Scores feature. Once you’ve done so, we’ll warn you if you’re planning on visiting an area that exceeds your threshold—helping you to make better informed decisions while you’re on the go.

Carbon Footprint

TripIt shows you the carbon emissions for your flights, tracks your annual flight emissions, and offers you ways to offset that environmental impact—right alongside all your travel plans. 

With our Carbon Footprint feature, you can: 

• See your flight’s carbon emissions 
• Track your annual carbon footprint for air travel 
• View practical suggestions to offset and reduce your environmental impact 

To view the carbon emissions for an individual flight, visit the flight’s detail screen and you’ll see the Carbon Footprint section. To view the cumulative carbon emissions for all your flights in a certain year, check out your Travel Stats in the More tab. From there, tap on Carbon Footprint for more info and ideas on how to reduce or offset your footprint.

Travel Stats 

Oh, the places you’ve been! Proud of how many destinations you’ve explored? Did you know you can view these stats, and more, in Travel Stats ? 

To check out your Travel Stats, head to the More tab of the TripIt mobile app, then tap Travel Stats. You can also share your travel stats on social media using the share button or by snapping a screenshot. Remember to include #TripItTravelStats with your post.

Search for iOS

With a few keywords, you can now search within your travel plans to find trip details like restaurants you’ve booked, hotels you’ve stayed (or plan to stay) at, states or countries you’ve visited or plan to visit, and so on. 

To get started, enter a few keywords—e.g., “London hotel”—into the search bar and results will instantly start to populate. Then, simply click on the plan that you were searching for, and voila! You can jump right to that plan and recall the details you need.

The first baby we took tent camping at a few weeks old.  Since then we have been tent camping and backpacking with infants and toddlers but now with #5 and #6 we have been enjoying RV camping.

I love to tent camp but RV camping with young children has allowed us to get out and camp more and extend the season.  Plus, we have been able to take very long, 3 week and month road trips, that would have never worked in a tent or car camping.

Our first RV experience was renting a camper. We rented from Canadream on a half-price special. Otherwise, that would have been quite expensive.

In an RV you will have the luxury of cooking as you do at home.  Take advantage of this by having a well-stocked kitchen, ready to make, fun meals for the whole family.   When we are boondocking, I use the built-in propane cooktop and oven.  When we are camping at a campground, I pull out all the electric appliances and use the power from the campground.  So I have multiple options when cooking.

In cold season camping, the bottom of the beds and floor can get cold. So we use wool blankets under the sheets or electric blankets to keep warm.

Our first time traveling as a family in an RV was when we flew to Toronto Canada and rented an RV.  The time we had planned to visit downtown Toronto turned into an unforgettable adventure to the surrounding Provential Parks, Niagra Falls, and upstate New York.

I always keep a pre-packed first-aid kit ready to go so I don’t have to think twice about it when I’m packing. Of course, you may need additional items depending on where you’re going and what activities you have planned. But this first-aid kit packing list covers the basics.

First-Aid Kit Tips

• Look in the school supply section of your local drugstore for a small container, or order a small tackle box from Amazon .
• Only separate medication from its labeled bottle if you know you’ll be able to differentiate pills.
• Keep prescription medications separate from your first-aid kit.
• Include over-the-counter (OTC) medication based on your needs; i.e., if you’re traveling on a cruise and need motion sickness pills, make sure to include those.
• Pack a natural balm like GREEN GOO First Aid , which can relieve symptoms for dry skin, insect bites, scrapes, rashes, chafing, cuts, sunburns, blisters, and poison ivy.
• Include various-sized bandages ; they double for blister protection if you plan on doing a lot of walking.
• Hand sanitizer , a small tissue pack , lip balm , and sunscreen are also must-haves.
• Be sure to fill out the Medical ID on your iPhone and list any allergies, emergency contacts, and your doctor’s information.

Bucket list travel on a budget: Expert tips for airfare, loyalty programs, credit card perks and more

Many travelers have their sights set on summer getaways , but with everything from baggage fees to fuel costs impacting the price of a ticket, "Good Morning America" is asking travel experts to share tips for booking bucket list destinations on a budget and finding savings along the way.

Travel expert Nicky Kelvin, senior director of content for The Points Guy, offered his tips for affordable travel techniques.

Where to find the best flight deals

Kelvin encourages travelers to utilize Google Flights and other free price-tracking tools to compare fare prices and snag the best deal.

He also suggests using both the calendar and map features within Google Flights to see which airports, dates and destinations how the lowest fare.

From the Google Flights homepage on a computer, click "explore destinations" and select a departure city without adding a destination. Then zoom out on the map to see the best prices for destinations all over the world.

Get the most out of free travel loyalty programs

Travelers should be earning points for anything and everything that they are buying or booking from airline and hotels to car rentals, Kelvin said.

In addition to the points that can can help travelers earn free flights and hotel stays, Kelvin said to look for extra perks just for joining.

Hyatt rewards, for example, offers all guests free breakfast.

For Thrifty Car Rental and Dollar Car Rental, he said you can add your spouse or domestic partner as an additional driver for free.

Loyalty programs are great for airlines too. JetBlue, for example, allows enrolled customers -- even if they don't have enough points for a flight -- to use points for discounts. Plus, with any airline, as you accumulate points to earn status, you can get free seating upgrades.

Travel credit cards with cash back perks

Along with earning points, travel credit cards give you protection for your trip like insurance to help with lost or damaged baggage and trip cancellation protection

As for credit cards, The Points Guy team suggests the Capital One Venture Rewards credit card as an all-around pick -- you get 75,000 miles after meeting your minimum spend in the first three months. Which Kelvin said is a value of over $1,300.

If you're looking to earn the most miles, he said look to the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card.

"You'll earn the most points on all your purchases with this one," he said.

Finally, if you want a credit card with no fee, Kelvin suggested the Bilt Mastercard, which he said is particularly great for renters because you can earn points on what's likely someone's biggest expense.

If someone's trip is taking them out of the country, using a cell phone internationally can cost $10 to 15 per day. For a family of four, that's more than $400 for a week.

If your phones support eSIM, Kelvin suggested purchasing a data plan for your destination through an app such as Airalo, Truphone or GigSky.

For example, one of Airalo's global SIM plans costs $9 for one week, which could save a family close to $350 dollars, depending on their existing international coverage.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has thanked "partners" as he said Ukraine is "making every effort" to use drones more effectively.

In addition to posting some pictures on X, the Ukrainian president said he wanted to thank people who train drone operators, as well as "our warriors for their efficiency".

He added: "I thank everyone involved in the production and those who ensure better protection of the Ukrainian skies through their work."

Ukrainian servicemen have been saying goodbye to their visiting partners at the railway station in Kramatorsk, eastern Ukraine.

The men were on a short break from frontline duty.

Russia's defence ministry says its forces have taken control of the village of Semenivka in the eastern Donetsk region.

Yesterday, the ministry announced the capture of another village, Novobakhmutivka.

Ocheretyne, also near by, has been a focal point of fighting in recent days.

Ukraine's top general, speaking yesterday, said fighting had intensified in the east of the country, with troops falling back in three areas. 

Oleksandr Syrskyi said Russian troops had achieved "certain tactical successes" in the villages of Berdychi, Semenivka and Novomykhailivka.

Ukraine has confirmed that chatbots used by its security agencies on Telegram have been restored after being temporarily blocked.

We reported earlier (6.56am post) that Kyiv's security service described their blocking as "unreasonable".

Now, Ukraine's Centre for Strategic Communication has said three affected bots, used by Ukraine's SBU security service, the GUR and digital ministry for the war effort, had been restored.

A Telegram spokesperson said they were "temporarily disabled due to a false positive but have since been reinstated".

The number of civilians killed or injured in Ukraine in March was 604, according to the UN, which has a human rights monitoring team in the country.

The figure is 20% higher than February's.

The UK defence ministry, highlighting the numbers in its daily intelligence update, said 57 children were reported killed in March, "double the previous month". 

Their deaths have been "attributed directly to Russian use of aerial munitions", the MoD said.

Civilian deaths in general are attributed to "missile and aerial-munitions strikes throughout Ukraine and increased bombardment at the frontlines".

The UN's report highlights an increase in coordinated strikes on critical Ukrainian infrastructure, with 20 sites "destroyed or damaged".

In total, there have been 31,366 civilian casualties in Ukraine since 24 February 2022, the MoD said (including areas Russia is controlling).

Of those, 10,810 were killed and 20,556 were wounded.

We reported earlier in our big picture post (6.27am post) that Oleksandr Pivnenko, who commands Ukraine's National Guard, is not ruling out a Russian attempt to target Kharkiv - Ukraine's second-largest city.

Kharkiv has been the focus of recent air attacks.

The US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) thinktank assesses that the Russian military "lacks the forces necessary to seize the city".

But the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed forces, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi, has said the threat of an invasion is causing Ukraine to allocate additional resources to defend the city - weakening forces elsewhere.

The ISW said: "Syrskyi noted that Ukrainian forces have recently improved their positions near Synkivka (east of Kharkiv)."

The Russians' "combat effectiveness" can be questioned because of their "inability to seize Synkivka despite repeated mass infantry and mechanized assaults", the ISW said.

It went on: "ISW continues to assess that a potential future Russian offensive to seize Kharkiv City would be an extremely ambitious undertaking that would pose significant challenges to Russian forces, particularly since Russian forces will be facing better-equipped Ukrainian forces following the arrival of US military assistance."

Telegram has reportedly restored some blocked Ukrainian bots.

They include those of the security service and ministry of digital transformation, the Kyiv Post said on X.

As we reported earlier (6.56am post) the security service said Telegram had "unreasonably" blocked bots that "opposed Russia's military aggression against Ukraine".

There is concern within the international community about the US supplying long-range missiles to Ukraine, North Korea has said.

As we report in our big picture post (6.27am post) Kyiv has used long-range ballistic missiles from the US against Russia twice this month, according to NBC News.

"The US has secretly supplied long-range missiles to Ukraine, sparking off uneasiness and concern of the international community," North Korea's defence ministry said.

 "The US can never defeat the heroic Russian army and people with any latest weaponry or military support," it added, according to state news agency KCNA.

Professor Michael Clarke, Sky News's military analyst, has said North Korea is supplying weapons to Russia - facilitated by China.

Official bots that oppose the Russian invasion of Ukraine have been blocked by the Telegram messaging app, Ukraine's military spy agency has claimed.

Ukraine's own bot was included, GUR added.

"Today, the management of the Telegram platform unreasonably blocked a number of official bots that opposed Russia's military aggression against Ukraine, including the main intelligence bot," GUR said in a statement posted on Telegram.

"Despite the blocking of our bot, your personal data is safe." 

A bot is a piece of software that can run on its own, mimicking conversations or collecting content.

Telegram, which is based in Dubai, was founded by Russian-born Pavel Durov, who left Russia in 2014 after he refused to comply with government demands to shut down opposition groups on another social media platform.

Since the Ukraine war began in February 2022, both Ukraine and Russia have used the app to share updates.

Almost all major media outlets, government departments and public figures in both countries have channels on Telegram. 

Telegram's press service did not immediately reply to a request for comment, Reuters said.
