Although the Trek 7000 is a great bike on its own, we believe some riders may want to add accessories like a rear rack, fenders, or upgraded pedals to further personalize their bike and improve its utility.

Trek 7700 Mountain Bike

Posted by Mark | Hybrid Bikes

trek mountain bikes 7700

Trek 7700 – A Hybrid To Impress

The Trek 7700 is a hybrid bike that steps into the spotlight with stiff, lean sportiness and a premium level of quality. It is designed to appeal to those who do not want to choose between a mountain bike and an everyday city run around. Whilst it is fast and lithe enough to let you pound the tarmac and duck in and out of traffic, it is also set up with enough durability and compliance to help you get off the beaten track at the weekend.

The Trek 7700 has an Alpha Gold Aluminium frame, which you will find on other similarly equipped bikes from this manufacturer. This is a tough frame with geometry that helps you feel engaged with the ride and handling that allows for precise controls whatever the weather. This leads to a confident ride that will be suitable for a wide range of potential users.

Unlike some hybrid bikes this model comes with suspension integrated into the front fork. It is an SR Suntour NXC shock, which has 50mm of travel available when you feel like taking some big hits aboard the Trek 7700 on tracks and trails where standard road bikes might be less suitable. There is a mechanical lockout mechanism that lets you eliminate the travel for your convenience. This means that on flat, smooth road surfaces the bike is tauter and therefore faster out of the gates. This can come in handy when you want to take off from a standing start without stifling the progress of other road users.

The drive train utilises components from the Shimano SLX range for efficient shifting and peddling. One of the other convenient component additions is the Shimano M446 hydraulic disc brakes at the front and rear. This is the kind of kit you would expect to see on a fully-fledged mountain bike, but on a hybrid model like the Trek 7700 it still makes a lot of sense. Operation of the brakes is smoother than mechanical alternatives and they behave more reliably in adverse weather conditions, which is something to consider in the city and in the countryside.

The wheelset harnesses Shimano M435 hubs, Bontrager Nebula rims and Bontrager LT3 tyres . The tyres have enough grip to see you safely to your destination whether you are on wet roads or muddy fields, but they still give you that quick rolling speed that is necessary to keep you going at a decent pace on dry tarmac when you have an appointment to keep.

The Bontrager Race handlebar lets you experience the best of the Trek 7700 and its handling, with a responsive feel that never feels too dull or disengaged. You get a Bontrager Race seat post and the Evoke 2 saddle on chromoly rails, confirming this bike as being light and nimble in spite of its all-rounder hybrid setup.

The front and rear of the frame have mounts that will allow you to integrate a rack and fender if you want to expand the hybrid nature of the Trek 7700. This will allow you to carry more items with you whilst you are out and about, which might make it better suited to commuting and travelling long distances.

The Trek 7700 is an impressive hybrid bike that makes the most out of its components and lets riders enjoy a diverse experience not limited by the technical capabilities of their cycle . If road based practicality and off-road fun sound like something that you want out of a bike, a hybrid model like this may be a good purchase.

Good Components--should last many years.

Chain chatter

I was looking for a new bike to replace a mountain bike, had thought about getting a Gary Fisher Sugar 3--wow those are really nice and $$$. But I do most of my riding around town and am only on trails 2-3 times a year. So I started looking at hybrids. I was looking in October--not really a good time to purchase as there is not much selection. I wanted to try the Fisher Fast City, but there was not one available within 250 miles. I rode the Fisher Utopia and that seemed pretty nice, but when it came time to buy, it was 3 hours away. Thus, I purchased a Trek 7700 fx, very pleased with it. Overall, I am very pleased with this bicycle. It is smooth to ride, offers a fast pace, and the miles just float by.

Trek, what more do you have to say. Frame-Very solid Tires-handle gravel better than I expected

rear gears are very sloppy and hard to adjust. Even the dealer had a hard time adjusting the rear derailer. It is fixed by changing to a road racing, more solid, gears.

This is my first Trek bike. I had to special order it in jan of 2002. I rode it on a trainer for 3 months, Minnesota has winter. It works well on the trainer and for distances of 0-60 miles. Tires worked better than expected. However, I have changed them to Bontrager race lites and x-lite slicks off of my 2002 USPS Trek 5200. It handles them very well, and is less sloppy on gear changes with Ultegra gears in the back. I probably have about 2000 miles on it this year. However, I decided to purchase an actual road bike to race with. I think with some upgrades you could seriously race with the bike. If you have any thoughts of road racing/triathlon, buy a road bike. I did, but baught this first and then later in the season purchased a carbon fiber 5200.

Similar Products Used:

Trek 5200 Schwinn MTB's

Inexpensive. FUN fun fun. Easy to hot rod and fairly inexpensive to do such.

None. This bike has done all that I could expect.

I purchased this bike to ride to and from work initially. I then started riding this bike for distance and found it to be quite capable of that also. I replaced the front fork with a Reynolds Ouzo Pro, Bontrager Race Lite wheels, Ritchey stem and Conti GP 3000s, an Italia Trans Am saddle and now we are talkin'.This bike also has a full computer. This bike gets down the road! I love this bike around town.It is nimble, quick and comfortable. I have also put 150 plus mile days on this rig with no complaints. This bike is supposed to be a training bike and train it does.

Lotsa other bikes, but not like this one have I had.

Weight and Mountain Bike handlebars and brakes make it nimble and safe on the heavily populated trails.

Chain broke on my first ride. Dealer replaced it with a better than stock chain for zippo (Shimano). Tiagra Crank Arms on all new FX7700's that I saw were all scratched up. Dealer replaced after ordering one from Trek.

Wanted a bike that is good for the Paved Bike Paths and Crushed gravel or Limestone Paths that criss cross the Cook County IL area, and this bike seems to fit the bill. I've done both and the bike feels very quick and light yet has handled the bumps, cracks, gravel and dirt quite well.

Light frame and gears

Bought this Bike in January but have only used it seriously in the last month or so, I''ve done a couple of 40mile rides and quite a few 25mile ones and have enjoyed them greatly. This bike eats up the miles, was a bit dubious about the SPD pedals. Now think they are great.

Updated: Trek 6700 review

Sorted if not outstanding all-rounder

Guy Kesteven

The top dog in Trek’s 6000 range is a reliable, responsive and obedient ride, and it’ll have a decent go at most things, from racing to trail centre red routes. However, at this price we’d expect a better fork and overall kit level on what is an adequate rather than outstanding frame.

Ride & handling: Well-balanced overall ride that’s ready for anything

With a long (105mm) stem and a PopLoc remote lockout lever under your thumb, the first impressions of the 6700 are that it's designed for racing rather than more casual use. This also sets up a swift but safe rather than cut-and-thrust handling character that’s carried right thought the bike.

The mid-width 660mm low-riser bar gives enough leverage to coax it into corners without too much effort though, and it’s well balanced enough to surf the slippery-when-wet Bontrager tyres through boggy sections, or otherwise treacherous corners.

The neutral feel was appreciated by less aggressive riders, and the general feedback from all our testers was that it was a “safe and confident ride”. It’s not the lightest bike at this price but still hops and pops around well if you need to lift it over rather than roll through.

It climbs and drives out of corners with encouraging purpose too, and it’s comfortable enough to make day-long rides easy rather than a test of endurance. The reduced control of the TurnKey (rather than Motion Control) damping circuit of the RockShox Recon fork becomes more noticeable the harder you push the bike, though.

While the low (11.75in) bottom bracket aids stability, it sometimes makes itself noticed by pedal-to-ground strikes when you’re riding through bumpy corners. But you soon get used to such limitations. It’s essentially a well designed and reasonably equipped all-rounder that’s sprightly enough to make £1,200 seem well spent.

Frame & equipment: We'd hope for a better chassis and fork at this price

The 6700 is the most expensive model that uses Trek’s mid-range Alpha Black aluminium frameset. It’s a competent chassis with a balanced cross-country-style geometry. Features include a twin taper reinforced down tube, a big hydroformed top tube and a semi-integrated head tube.

There are three sets of bottle cage bosses and eyelets for a rack and mudguards, all of which point to the bike's all-rounder credentials and workhorse rather than thoroughbred breeding.

Going with the relatively cheap frameset doesn’t reap the dividends you might expect when it comes to kit. Specifically, while the TurnKey damper equipped Recon SL fork offers reasonable compression and rebound control, it's definitely lacking in composure compared with the RockShox Motion Control or Fox forks found on some other hardtails at this price.

The Shimano XT chainset and rear mech spec is diluted by SLX front mech and shifters, although these keep shifting just as slick and precise as XT. Avid's Elixir brakes are powerful performers, well suited to the bike's intended use.

The fat-carcass 2.2in XDX tyres on broad Bontrager Ranger rims add a welcome dose of float and comfortable buoyancy to the bike, as long as you’re prepared to ride the slide of the non-directional tread. The wheels aren't especially light but they're tough enough to take a bit of punishment.

The rest of the finishing parts are mid-range Bontrager tagged offerings, including a 660mm low-rise bar, comfy saddle, lightweight single-bolt seatpost and decent stem. The whole thing isn’t as light as we’d hope for a £1,200 racer though, at 11.7kg (25.8lb, without pedals).

Frame and fork.

When it comes to biking, having a sturdy and reliable frame is key. This is no surprise since the frame is the backbone of the bike and can make a huge difference in terms of stability and control while you’re riding.

For the Trek 7200, you get a solid hybrid bike frame. This bike is made with Trek’s Alpha aluminum, which is known for its lightweight and durability. You’ll feel the difference as soon as you start pedaling, it’s that light!

trek mountain bikes 7700

What’s really cool about the Trek 7200 is its slightly steeper head tube angle of 71.5°. This makes it perfect for climbing hills and gives riders more confidence and balance on fast descents. You’ll be able to handle any terrain with ease!

And for the fork, the Trek 7200 is equipped with an RST CT-COM C5 fork with 50 mm of travel. For a hybrid bike like this, that’s more than enough.

While suspension isn’t usually a top priority for hybrid bikes, the suspension on the Trek 7200 is designed to absorb the bumps of trails and potholes with ease.

Finally, let’s not forget about comfort! As a hybrid bike, the main focus of the Trek 7200 is on providing comfortable rides.

You’ll appreciate the suspension and enjoy smooth rides even on rough terrain, and you’ll feel like you’re gliding on air on paved roads and smooth city streets.

Gears and Brakes

Gears are one of the most important components of any bike, as they can make a huge difference in how easy or difficult it is to ride.

Luckily, the Trek 7200 has got you covered with high-quality components from Shimano, SRAM, and Bontrager. These components provide precise shifting and braking, making for smooth and safe rides.

One of the best things about the Trek 7200 is its 8-speed rear gear. This provides a wide gear range that’s perfect for both commuting, riding around your neighborhood or even taking on rough trails.

trek mountain bikes 7700

You’ll always have the perfect gear to make the ride easy and enjoyable, whether on climbs or descents.

If you’re looking at an earlier model of the Trek 7200, you might find it fitted with 7-speed SRAM MRX Plus shifters and Shimano C102 front derailleur and Shimano Acera rear derailleur.

But in the later 2010 model, these components were upgraded to SRAM MRX Comp twist shifters, Shimano M191 front derailleur, and Shimano Alivio rear derailleur.

Either way, you can be sure you’re getting top-notch components that will give you efficient rides.

Now, let’s talk about the brakes. The Trek 7200 comes with Tektro linear-pull alloy brakes. These brakes are powerful and efficient, giving you the stopping power you need to stay safe on any ride. You’ll be able to stop quickly and easily, even when you’re gliding down a steep hill.

Wheels and Tires

Wheels and tires are crucial components of any bike, as they contribute to its overall performance and riding experience.

The Trek 7200 comes with a high-quality set of wheels, including an alloy front hub and a Shimano RM30 rear hub.

The Bontrager 750 rims have 32 holes and are more than strong enough for most commuters. These wheels are both durable and lightweight, and won’t weigh you down.

trek mountain bikes 7700

Trek 7200 has very solid tires, but depending on which model of the Trek 7200 you have, you may be riding on different tires.

The earlier models were equipped with Bontrager Invert Puncture Resistant tires, while the later 2010 model has 700x35c Bontrager H2 Plus tires with a puncture-resistant belt.

No matter which tires you have, you can expect good traction on smooth surfaces. However, on rougher terrain, the tires may not perform as well. That being said, the tires are puncture-resistant and should withstand most road hazards.

Saddle and Handlebars

The Trek 7200 comes with a soft and padded Bontrager Boulevard saddle that is perfect for long-distance commutes. What’s even better is that the saddle is attached to an alloy seatpost with adjustable suspension.

trek mountain bikes 7700

This means that your seatpost is more flexible, reducing the transfer of high-frequency road vibrations from your bike to your body. It also helps dampen the impacts of big hits from the road, making your ride smoother and more comfortable.

Also, the Trek 7200 comes with a Bontrager Approved handlebar made of solid steel and with a 50 mm rise.

You can always adjust the height of the handlebar to give you a comfortable fit. This means that you can ride for longer without experiencing any discomfort or strain on your back or shoulders.

Size and weight

When it comes to finding the perfect fit for your ride, the Trek 7200 hybrid bike has many sizes to choose from. With sizes ranging from 15″ to 25″, you’re sure to find the size that fits you just right.

The frame sizes are precisely 15, 17.5, 20, 22.5, and 25 inches, giving you plenty of options to choose from.

And even with all the high-quality components, the Trek 7200 still manages to keep its weight down. With an average weight of about 26.4 lbs (11.9 kg), this bike is easy to handle and maneuver on the trails.

It’s not too heavy to carry around when you need to, but it’s still sturdy enough to support riders up to 275 to 300 lbs.

How much is the Trek 7200 Multitrack?

The current Trek 7200 value is estimated to be less than $100, you will most likely find one going from $65 to $110. But, keep in mind that it would be a used bike.

If you happen to find a brand-new Trek 7200, though this is very unlikely, expect the price to be from $250 to $450. It doesn’t go over $500.
