UOB unveils refreshed branding with new logo, seal mark
The bank will also be kicking off a regional brand campaign involving TV films and ads.
UOB has unveiled its refreshed branding with a new logo and seal mark to better reflect its long-term strategy of connecting people and businesses in ASEAN for a better future.
The bank has also launched its integrated regional brand campaign “Doing Right By You”, which UOB said reflects its transformation to be future ready in the new banking era.
“As ASEAN re-starts its engine of growth post-pandemic, it is timely for us to unveil our sharpened purpose and brand refresh,” Wee Ee Cheong, deputy chairman and CEO of UOB, told reporters in the press launch at the UOB Privilege Banking Centre at Orchard Road, Singapore.
“Today, we have the most extensive ASEAN footprint among the Singapore banks. By the time we celebrate our 100th year in 2035, we want to be the most preferred bank for both consumers and businesses across our key markets. A truly regional bank that helps our customers achieve their aspirations,” Cheong said.

Explained: Which MCCs are included in the UOB Lady’s Card “Travel” category
UOB does not publish an explicit list of MCCs under the UOB Lady's Cards' Travel category, but here's what you need to know.
As you no doubt know by now, the UOB Lady’s Cards received one heck of an enhancement earlier this month, with UOB Lady’s Card and UOB Lady’s Solitaire Cardholders now earning 6 mpd on their choice of one and two bonus categories respectively, capped at S$1,000 and S$3,000 per calendar month.
Bonus categories can be rotated every calendar quarter if desired, and there are seven different categories to choose from.
While most categories are defined explicitly, there’s one that’s very poorly defined: travel.
How does UOB define “travel”?
In the UOB Lady’s Card T&Cs, travel is defined as:
Credit card retail transaction(s) made at major airlines and/or hotels with their main business activity classified as flights and/or hotels only. (including card not-present transactions like ecommerce/mail/phone order transactions)
That’s not very illuminating, to say the least. Unlike the other categories, no specific MCCs are provided.
To make matters more confusing, the UOB Lady’s Card website defines travel as:
Travel comprises of airlines, hotels & resorts bookings and duty-free stores.
Note the addition of duty-free stores, which don’t appear in the T&Cs.
The landing page goes on to provide some specific merchant names:
Note how all of a sudden cruise liners and travel agencies pop up too! I’m not complaining — it’s certainly good that the net is growing wider — but it makes the scanty T&Cs all the more frustrating.
Obviously, UOB does have an MCC list to refer to on their backend (how else would they award bonuses?), but for whatever reason, they’ve decided against publishing it.
However, they have shown me the actual list (which I can’t publish, sorry), and based on that I’ve been able to piece together the following.
✔ Included in Travel category
Airlines (mcc 3000-3299, 4511, 4582).
Airlines code as MCC 3000-3299, 4511, 4582 , and UOB says that all “major airlines” will qualify for bonuses.
What is a “major airline”? Based on the MCC list I’ve seen, I can confirm it’s pretty much any airline you can book a ticket with.
The excluded MCCs in this range are mostly companies that no longer exist (and that I’m really surprised still have MCCs), such as:
- MCC 3002 Pan American (ceased operations 1991)
- MCC 3061 Continental Airlines (ceased operations 2012- merged into United)
- MCC 3071 Air British Columbia (ceased operations 2002)
There are a few excluded airlines that still operate, but I highly doubt you’ll ever set foot on:
- MCC 3094 Zambia Airways
- MCC 3135 Sudan Airways
So I can’t think of any realistic scenario (short of booking a charter flight maybe?) where you’d buy an air ticket and not earn bonus points.
Cruise Liners (MCC 4411)
Cruise liners code as MCC 4411 , and are included as part of the UOB Lady’s Card Travel category.
This includes Royal Caribbean International (mentioned explicitly on the UOB Lady’s Card website), Carnival Cruises, Celebrity Cruises, Holland America, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Resorts World Cruises, Virgin Cruises etc.
Duty-free Stores (MCC 5309)
Duty-free stores code as MCC 5309, and are included as part of the UOB Lady’s Card Travel category.
This would include DFS, Dufry, Heinemann, KrisShop, Lotte, The Shilla Duty Free etc.
Hotels (MCC 3500-3999, 7011)
Hotels code as MCC 3500-3999 & 7011, and UOB says that all “major hotels” will qualify for bonuses.
Again, making reference to the MCC list I’ve seen, I can say you have nothing to worry about as the excluded MCCs mostly refer to chains that have gone out of business, or have been acquired by larger ones.
Perhaps the only exclusion worth flagging is MCC 3627 Extended Stay America , a budget chain with 650 locations across the USA and Canada.
Do note that Airbnb is explicitly mentioned on the UOB Lady’s Card website. These transactions can code under two different MCCs (4722 or 7011), but both are included for the Travel category.
Online Travel Agencies (MCC 4722)
Online travel agencies code as MCC 4722, and are included as part of the UOB Lady’s Card Travel category.
This includes Agoda, Expedia, Hotels.com and Klook (mentioned explicitly on the UOB Lady’s Card website), Booking.com, Trip.com, Kayak, Traveloka etc.
Regular Travel Agencies (MCC 4722)
Offline travel agencies also code as MCC 4722, and are included as part of the UOB Lady’s Card Travel category.
This includes Chan Brothers & EU Holidays (mentioned explicitly on the UOB Lady’s Card website), CTC Travel, Dynasty Travel, Nam Ho, New Shan Travel, SA Travel, WTS Travel etc.
✖ Not included in Travel category
Airport transfers, private hire cars, taxis (mcc 4121).
Airport transfers, private hire cars and taxis code under MCC 4121, and are not included as part of the UOB Lady’s Card Travel category
4121 is already covered under the Transport category for the UOB Lady’s Card.
Bus Liners (MCC 4131)
Bus liners code under MCC 4131, and are not included as part of the UOB Lady’s Card Travel category (e.g. BoltBus, Greyhound, MegaBus, Peter Pan).
Rental Cars (MCC 3000-3499)
Rental car providers code as MCC 3000-3499, and are not included as part of the UOB Lady’s Card Travel category (e.g. Avis, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt).
Trains (MCC 4111/4112)
Trains fall into two main MCCs:
- 4111 (Transportation-Suburban and Local Commuter Passenger)
- 4112 (Passenger Railways)
MCC 4111 is typically used for intra-city public transport (e.g. riding the local bus/MRT equivalent), and is not included under the UOB Lady’s Card’s Travel category (it falls under the Transport category instead).
MCC 4112 is typically used for inter-city trains (e.g. Shinkasen, Trenitalia, Eurostar), and is not included under the UOB Lady’s Card’s Travel category.
How do you check the MCC?
When dealing with a big-ticket expense like travel, it might be a good idea to check the MCC before spending.
If you’re uncertain about the MCC, here’s three ways you can check it before making a purchase.
For a detailed guide, refer to the following article.
How to check Merchant Category Codes (MCCs) before making a purchase
UOB does not provide an explicit MCC range for the Travel category, but hopefully this article helps shed some light on what transactions do and do not earn bonuses.
The tl;dr is:
Final note: while I welcome comments, there’s not much point asking “will merchant X earn bonuses”, because you can assume my answer will be “yes, if it falls under the relevant MCC”.
Most of the time, MCCs will code exactly the way you suspect they will, but there can be the odd occasion when they go haywire. When in doubt, always check via the method I described above.

Hi Aaron, does MCC 5309 fall under Travel category then?
Bro did you just skip straight to the comments?
Duty-free Stores (MCC 5309) Duty-free stores code as MCC 5309, and are included as part of the UOB Lady’s Card Travel category.
Why would UOB not publish the list, and also decide it’s okay for you to see the list?

Amazing that a gender discriminatory card can continue to exist in this day and age. Imagine if it were a men only card, the outrage would be global news. Shame on UOB, I wouldn’t give them a penny of my spend

Hi Aaron, can we couple this card with the Amaze card assuming the MCC is covered under Travel? Planning to charge IHG and GHA hotels in Japan with Amaze card coupled with UOB lady’s card
Hey, I did the same assuming it’ll work but haven’t gotten the bonus miles till now. Any news on your end?
Hi, any updates on this? whether u received bonus miles?
Hey Aaron, thanks for the article. Do you know if payment via Google pay or Amaze still gets miles for the ladys cards?
Hey guys, any tips what card to use for car rental then?
Hi Aaron! Do we know if the lady’s card (travel) would qualify for 6mpd if we use it to purchase miles (eg Alaska Milage)?
Hey Aaron, wanted to check if you know for sure 7011 is included? Coz you did point out that “These transactions can code under two different MCCs (4722 or 7011), but both are included for the Travel category”, but 7011 isn’t listed anywhere else in this post (to my knowledge), and its not on your other blogpost about the Lady’s Card either. Kinda concerned coz i use Booking.com a lot and unlike Airbnb/Expedia which is under 4722, Booking.com is under 7011
how about MCC code 4511? some major airlines also fall under this MCC code.
Does using the Grab app code under the Food category or Travel category or none?
Hi Aaron, can you kindly send me the MCC list for personal reference (I won’t share publicly) please??
Hi, would it count as travel if i had booked a car rental via Klook?
if it codes as mcc 4722, yes.
FYI I booked a rental car under Booking.com and it codes as 4121 (Transportation usually)!
Hi Aaron, I paid for a hotel reservation online with UOB Lady’s MC + Amaze, which coded as 5999. Will this qualify for 6mpd under the Travel category? Have to book a second room and trying to decide which card to use. Thanks!
Can anyone confirm if trip.com is part of the list of OTAs for uob lady’s? I’ve made multiple bookings on trip.com specifically but did not get any travel bonus uni$. When I spoke to their customer agent, they listed that there are only 7 eligible travel agents on their travel category: Booking.com, Expedia, Agoda, Zuji, Uob travel, Chan bros and Dynasty.
If anyone has been awarded uni$ for their trip.com transaction, please let me know so I can make an appeal.
MCC 3802 – Palace Hotel not considered under Travel 🙁
Does anyone know if Klook is really categorized under MCC 4722?
Regarding “Online Travel Agencies (MCC 4722)”. I have a trip.com transaction that wasn’t awarded the additional and bonus UNI$. Same for a transaction from ctrip.com (coming in as Shanghai huacheng). It has been 5 days since the transaction posted date… Just putting it out here..
bonus points are not posted immediately.
Restaurant in a hotel would it normally be tagged as Travel or Dining?

UOB's online travel marketplace The Travel Insider takes off in the region
United Overseas Bank (UOB) today announced that it is launching its online travel marketplace, The Travel Insider, to its customers in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand 1 . This is the first such travel marketplace by a bank in each of the three countries.
The Travel Insider was first launched in Singapore in March 2018 2 in response to customer demand for a one-stop travel marketplace where they could easily search, plan and book their holidays. Since the marketplace’s Singapore launch, close to 25,000 unique visitors have visited the online marketplace every month 3 to search for inspiration as they plan their next holiday and to secure attractive travel deals. In 2019, the number of new visitors to The Travel Insider outperformed Google Analytics’ benchmark by close to six times 4 .
Ms Jacquelyn Tan, Head of Personal Financial Services Singapore, UOB, said that the love for travel goes beyond its Singapore customers, with travel-related spend being one of the top card spend categories across the region. In fact, travel-related purchases on all UOB cards from 2018 to 2019 accounted for more than 15 per cent of total UOB card spend.
“Our card data shows that UOB cardmembers travel intra-regionally frequently for work and for leisure, with Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand topping their list of travel destinations. Given the significant role travel plays in our customers’ lives across the region, we have tapped UOB’s regional network and local expertise to bring The Travel Insider to more of our cardmembers. With this regional expansion, we are the first bank in Southeast Asia with an online travel marketplace to help our customers to search, to plan and to book their holidays in one place.”
“We have also expanded the content and travel deals within The Travel Insider for Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand to help travellers make the most of their regional trips. In Singapore, our customers can also access these exclusive travel promotions through our award-winning mobile banking app UOB Mighty in addition to The Travel Insider’s website. We will be extending this same suite of offerings to UOB Mighty progressively in our other markets, starting with Malaysia this year,” Ms Tan said.
Connecting customers to local deals within the region The local editions of The Travel Insider in each market draw on UOB’s regional connectivity and ecosystem of local and international partners to offer a range of international and local travel deals. To make it easier for them to discover the best travel deals, UOB’s regional cardmembers will be prompted on UOB Mighty to access The Travel Insider when they are in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand so that they can enjoy the same promotions as their local counterparts.
Expanding beyond borders – a growing ecosystem of partners With the launch of The Travel Insider in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, UOB has also expanded its team of travel partners, with online travel agent Booking.com and Singapore Airlines 5 coming on board alongside the likes of Agoda and Expedia 6 . With all these partners coming together, travellers can now choose from more than 1,000 travel deals across 23 destinations on The Travel Insider.
UOB has also drawn on the APIs (Application Programming Interface) of its new partners so that they can start booking their next Singapore Airlines flight or other flights and accommodation from the online marketplace. Today, one out of four visitors who visit The Travel Insider’s Book Now page use the functionality and the Bank expects that more customers will enjoy this convenience as its expands its partnership ecosystem to provide consumers with more travel options and services.
Increasing Insider insights One of the elements that makes The Travel Insider unique is providing travellers with tips from locals and inspiration guides on genuine experiences over standard tourist sightseeing holidays. These local travel insiders hail from fields such as architecture, engineering, landscape and teaching and their diverse backgrounds enable them to share unique experiences in their hometowns that go beyond the usual tourist sights.
The Bank has increased the number of local insiders from 16 people to 29 across 20 countries. Combined, these insiders have recommended more than 500 uniquely local experiences to travellers, such as enjoying the perfect egg coffee in Hanoi or playing a game of pinball while doing laundry in New York City. With 170 inspirations guides already available on the marketplace and more to come, travellers will be able to live like a local while abroad.
The expanded number of travel guides also means that travellers looking to explore their country further will be able to find inspiration through The Travel Insider. For example, they can explore the limestone cliffs of Bali, Indonesia, snack on traditional homemade nyonya treats in Penang, Malaysia, or wander around a sea gypsy settlement in Phuket, Thailand.
As part of the regional launch of The Travel Insider, UOB will be offering exclusive deals on the marketplace every Friday from 17 January to 14 February 2020. To find more, travellers can visit https://thetravelinsider.co or UOB Mighty.
1 The Travel Insider is available in Malaysia from 13 January, followed by Indonesia from 20 January and Thailand from 18 February. 2 For more information, please see press release: UOB launches The Travel Insider, the first online marketplace by a bank in Southeast Asia to turn the pain of holiday planning into pleasure 3 Source: UOB data, as at November 2019 4 Source: Google Analytics, as 31 August 2019 5 Singapore Airlines will be available through The Travel Insider’s Book Now function from 21 January 2020. 6 The Travel Insider features deals from more than 500 partners including Klook, KKdays, Pan Pacific Hotels Group, Millennium Hotels Group, Mastercard, Visa and more.
