Day 4: Luxor After breakfast, transfer to the Cairo Airport for your flight to Luxor where you will be met and transferred your hotel. Check in at your luxury hotel on the West Bank. Day 8: Alexandria After a very early breakfast transfer to Alexandria, the “second capital of Egypt,” where you will visit Qaitbay Citadel, built in the 15th century by Sultan Qaitbay on the spot of Alexandria’s ancient lighthouse. See the grand Montazah Palace, which combines Turkish and Florentine architectural styles, then move on to the new and much-acclaimed Alexandria Library. Things you should know before you visit Egypt

If you are an American, you will need a valid passport for at least 6 months after the day you plan to return from Egypt. You must also provide proof that you intend to return or continue your travels elsewhere. You are responsible for ensuring your passport is current and that your name on your passport matches all other travel documents we will issue. If you find that your name differs between any documents, please let us know right away.

You will need a visa to travel to and inside Egypt. You can get one when you arrive at Cairo airport. We can include visa fees and proceeds in your itinerary upon request. When you leave Egypt, you must show proof of entry via a stamp on your valid passport. If you don’t provide this stamp, officials may prevent you from leaving Egypt.

It is a good idea to have insurance if you need to cancel your trip or any medical need while abroad. Most insurance policies also cover baggage loss/damage or problems completing the trip due to circumstances beyond your control. Get a policy that provides medical coverage to avoid large health care expenses in an emergency. We can help you find the right insurance policy for your trip with us.

In general, for women traveling to Egypt, anything that is below the knee should be fine. Short sleeves should be fine as well, but nothing too short or too tiny. You do not need to cover your head in Egypt but do dress modestly. Wear pants or long skirts. It is hot in the summertime so that loose-fitting pants will be more comfortable than a pair of skinny jeans. It is also dusty and dirty, so that white clothing will appear soiled far more quickly than other colors’ clothing.

Egypt’s power grid is set up for 220V AC. Some rural areas only have 110V AC. Sockets are either the “Type C” Europlug or the “Type E” and “Type F” Schuko plug. You’ll need to purchase an adapter for devices from North America. Outlets marked as 110V or “For Shavers Only” won’t work for devices not rated for 110V and may even damage them. Mobile phone roaming charges are different between carriers, so be sure to check on costs with your phone provider in each area you’ll travel to. The large cities such as Dahab, Luxor, Cairo, and Alexandria have many Internet cafes where you can pay to use the WiFi or wired network ports. Some small towns like Siwa have at least one Internet cafe. Hotel in-room or lobby WiFi can be expensive, so check the rates before connecting to their services. Osiris Tours will not have control over which hotels have Internet access, but we do have information on which establishments are likely to provide it. Egypt is very dry in some places and very wet in others. Be prepared for a hot and dry climate. It can get cold in the northern regions if you happen to visit in the Winter. Most tourists visit during the cooler months from December to February. February to April and October to November is the best time of the year climate-wise to see the pyramids and Valley of the Kings. It can be very hot and dusty in April because of winds blowing in from the Sahara, so visiting sites can be a bit of a problem during that month. We recommend that you bring about $100 US per person for each day’s expenses. Small bills are best to tip waiters, porters, and housekeeping. Tipping is at your discretion based on your satisfaction with the service you receive. The Egyptian currency is called the “Egyptian Pound” (guinay in Arabic). Notes come in denominations of 5pt, 10pt, 25pt, 50pt, E£1, E£5, E£10, E£20, E£50 and E£100. Coins come in denominations of 10pt, 20pt, 25pt, 50pt, and E£1. Some tour operators and hotels only accept US dollars or Euros. Get your Egyptian Pound currency from your own bank before leaving or from an Egyptian bank machine. Those methods are cheaper than in the airport currency exchange or in tourist areas. Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted, but your bank card may or may not be valid in-country.

There are currently no vaccinations required to travel to Egypt. There have been some occurrences of “Bird Flu” (avian influenza) in Egypt. We recommend that you: – Avoid going to live animal farms or poultry markets. – Avoid eating eggs or poultry that have not been fully cooked. – Wash your hands regularly. – See a doctor if you feel any flu symptoms coming on while traveling or after you return home.

Make a list of all the medicines and medical items you need to bring with you on your trip, plus dosages of prescription drugs, details of prescription glasses and contacts, and any other medical necessities. Put spare eyewear and medications in checked and carry-on bags in case some of your luggage gets lost in transit. There are non-prescription, over-the-counter medicines available in Egypt, but it is often difficult to get prescription medication or eyewear. Bring water purification devices or iodine tablets in case bottled water is not available. We can advise which locations will have potable vs. non-potable water. We strongly recommend bringing some type of over-the-counter diarrhea medication. Medical Needs Checklist – Basic first aid and medicine kit (band-aids, antiseptics, pain meds). – Pepto-Bismol, Imodium, electrolyte powders for adding to drinking water to solve dehydration problems, and anti-diarrheal medications. – Anti-itch cream for insect bites and allergies. – Tablets for motion sickness. – SPF 30 or higher sunscreen, aloe-vera lotion for sunburn treatment, large-brim hat, lip balm, insect repellent, and sunglasses. – Hand sanitizer and baby wipes.

First, as the Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and then as the Minister of State for Antiquities. During our tour Dr. Zahi Hawass will join our group for sightseeing of the most important sites in Egypt. Thanks to his experience and expert knowledge which he will share with us in front of the world's greatest monuments, you will learn the secrets of Egypt like no one else.

Moreover, you will take part in a private multimedia lecture by Dr. Hawass who will show you his latest and the most exciting discoveries made recently in Egypt! He will focus on his research, including the mysteries of Tutankhamun, the search for the grave of Queen Nefertiti, new findings in the Valley of the Kings, and the search for the tombs of Cleopatra and Mark Antony. Egypt’s First Minister of Tourism & Antiquities

Meet with Dr. Khaled El-Enany, one of the most influential figures in Egyptian archaeology and tourism. Learn firsthand about the newest discoveries and exciting research from Dr. El-Enany, who supervised all of Egypt’s ancient and tourist sites for six years. Between 2016 and 2019, he was Minister of Antiquities, and then from 2019 to 2022, he served in the newly established joint ministry as its first Minister of Tourism & Antiquities. During his tenure, Dr. El-Enany oversaw the construction of the Grand Egyptian Museum, which houses the world’s largest collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts.

Dr. El-Enany continues to teach Egyptology and is affiliated with several universities worldwide, a number of scientific institutions, and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization and the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.

Day 1 – Arrival in Cairo

When you arrive at Cairo International Airport, an Archaeological Paths ’ representative greets you and helps you with visa and airport procedures. You are then transferred to a luxurious 5-star hotel in Giza that offers spectacular views of the pyramids.

Day 2 – Saqqara  /  Exclusive Lecture by Dr. Zahi Hawass

After an orientation with Archaeological Paths ’ representatives, you visit the ancient necropolis of Saqqara , which, according to Dr. Hawass, is one of the most impressive places on Earth and the “birthplace of architecture”. Admire the Step Pyramid of Djoser , the oldest pyramid in Egypt, built 4,700 years ago by the legendary architect Imhotep. You also visit the elaborately decorated Tomb of Mereruka and the Pyramid of Teti , which boasts one of the oldest pyramid texts ever discovered. Today you visit the ruins of Memphis , the ancient capital of Egypt, where you gaze up at a monumental 35-foot-tall statue of Ramses II carved from limestone. Then you head to Dahshur , home to the Bent and Red Pyramids , built for Pharaoh Snefru. These pyramids are among the oldest, largest and best preserved in Egypt.

After lunch, Dr. Hawass takes you on a private tour of the Tombs of the Pyramid Builders at Giza , which date to 2,500 BC. Although it is closed to the public, Archaeological Paths’ guests are granted exclusive access to this active excavation site.

I will take you to see one of my greatest discoveries, the Tombs of the Pyramid Builders. This discovery is even more important than the discovery of King Tut’s tomb, where we found mainly gold; the Tombs of the Pyramid Builders reconstructed our history. For the first time, we got to know the people who built the pyramids. Thanks to this visit, you will learn how the pyramids were actually built.

Day 4 – Private Entry to the Giza Plateau  /  Private Entry to the Great Pyramid  /  Special Access Between the Paws of the Great Sphinx with Dr. Hawass

In the morning, when the entire Giza Plateau remains closed to other tourists, Archaeological Paths ’ guests have exclusive access to this iconic ancient site. This crowd-free experience is typically offered only to royals, heads of state and other honored guests.

First, you enjoy private entry to the Great Pyramid of Khufu , the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still standing today. During  the  entire  visit,  you  are  accompanied  by  an  Egyptology  Expert  who  leads  you  through  the  Great  Pyramid’s  interior  and   vividly   describes   its   history,   construction,   and   mythology. Exclusively for you, the Director of the Giza Pyramids opens two additional chambers – the Queen’s Chamber and the Subterranean Chamber , both closed to the public.

Next, you have VIP access to the Great Sphinx Enclosure . While other tourists see the Sphinx only from a distant observation terrace, you stand right in front of the world’s largest sculpture. Dr. Zahi Hawass awaits you between the paws of the Sphinx to share with you all that we know about this enigmatic monument.

I will tell you all about the latest research and mysteries of the Sphinx and pyramids, including the tunnels under the Sphinx and secret doors and possible hidden chambers in the Great Pyramid.

Later, when the Giza Plateau opens to the public, you visit the stone quarry of Giza and the Valley Temple of Khafre , which was used for the Pharaoh Khafre’s mummification and purification before burial. Finally, take in a picturesque overview of the pyramids from a panoramic viewpoint.

Day 5 – Karnak Temple  /  Special Access to the Khonsu Temple with Dr. Mostafa Waziri

In the morning, you fly from Cairo to Luxor, known in ancient times as Thebes, one of the capitals of ancient Egypt. After checking in to a 5-star cruise ship, you begin your 8-day Nile cruise, continuing your journey to the most impressive monuments from the time of the pharaohs.

Your first stop in Luxor is Karnak , the largest temple complex in the world. Walk through the avenue of sphinxes, gaze up at the towering 97-foot-tall obelisk, and wander among the massive pillars of the Great Hypostyle Hall.

In the Karnak Temple Complex, Archaeological Paths ’ guests are granted special access to the Temple of Khonsu , one of the best preserved and most complete of the New Kingdom temples, which is off-limits to the general public. During the visit you are joined by Dr. Mostafa Waziri , Egypt’s Head of Antiquities, who personally introduces you to the most recent discoveries and restoration work. He also shares ongoing research with you and reveals plans for the future.

In the evening you explore Luxor Market , an authentic, open-air souk, where you have a chance to connect with locals at every turn and sample regional delicacies.

Day 6 – Valley of the Kings  /  Nile River Cruise

After breakfast, a short motorboat ride across the Nile takes you to the Valley of the Kings . It was a royal cemetery for over 500 years, and 62 pharaohs and other nobles were buried there. In the Valley, you see some of the best-known tombs, including King Tutankhamun’s , which was famously found intact in 1922 by British archaeologist Howard Carter.

The rest of the afternoon is free for leisure. You can enjoy the stunning views of the Nile from the cruise ship’s sundeck while sailing to Edfu or avail yourself of some of the ship’s other amenities. In the evening you are invited to the captain’s cocktail party , where you meet the crew and enjoy delicious local and international cocktails.

Day 7 – Edfu Temple  /  Nile River Cruise  /  Q&A Session  /  Kom Ombo Temple

Begin the day with a visit to the marvelous Temple of Edfu . It is among the best-preserved ancient temples in Egypt, built between 237 and 57 BC, and dedicated to the falcon god Horus.

On the way along the Nile to the next site, you can enjoy a drink on the ship’s beautiful sundeck while admiring the local wildlife, flourishing green fields, picturesque villages, palm trees and desert in the distance. Have a swim in the pool or use the ship’s spa, jacuzzi or gym facilities. With all these possibilities for relaxation, do not miss an engaging Q&A session with your Egyptology Expert who answers your questions about history and daily life in both ancient and modern Egypt.

In the afternoon you visit the Greco-Roman Temple of Kom Ombo . It was built between 205 and 180 BC as a place of worship for two gods: Horus and Sobek, the crocodile god. The day ends with a visit to the Crocodile Museum , which houses a collection of mummified crocodiles and ancient carvings.

Tonight’s onboard dinner features exquisite Egyptian cuisine and an Egyptian Night costume party in traditional galabeyas.

Day 8 – Unfinished Obelisk  /  Temple of Philae  /  Nubian Village

Today brings you to Aswan and begins with a visit to the Unfinished Obelisk , the largest-known ancient obelisk, lying on its side in a stone quarry. It measures around 140 feet tall and weighs nearly 1,200 tons. Next, you take a motorboat ride to the Temple of Philae , beautifully located on an island. The temple was built in 208 BC and dedicated to the goddess Isis.

After lunch, another motorboat ride takes you through the cataracts of the Nile to a Nubian village . There, you meet the Nubians and visit their homes and local school to experience their way of living. Back on board the cruise ship, you enjoy a Nubian party featuring traditional music and folk dances .

Day 9 – Abu Simbel Temples  /  Aswan High Dam  /  Felucca Ride  /  Aswan Old Souk

Your second day in Aswan starts with a drive to the majestic Abu Simbel Temples , one of the most impressive monuments of ancient Egypt. The temples were carved out of the mountainside in the 13th century BC for Ramses II and his wife Nefertari. On the way back to the cruise ship, you stop to see the imposing 2-mile-long Aswan High Dam . Its construction began in 1960, lasted 8 years and cost $1 billion. The dam ended the cycle of flood and drought in the Nile River region.

After lunch, enjoy a relaxing and scenic ride across the Nile on a felucca , a traditional sailboat. In the evening you stroll through the Aswan Old Souk , an atmospheric open-air market. Don’t forget to try the local shisha and taste some traditional Egyptian tea.

Day 10 – Nile River Cruise  /  Q&A Session  /  Private Entry to Luxor Temple with Dr. Hawass

Today, you can relax while cruising the Nile back to Luxor. In the meantime take part in the second Q&A session with your Egyptology Expert .

After reaching Luxor, Dr. Zahi Hawass rejoins you and accompanies you to Luxor Temple in the evening. To this day the temple is one of the greatest reflections of the pharaohs’ power and supremacy. You explore the Luxor Temple after it closes to the public and when stunning nighttime lighting brings the temple to life. Dr. Hawass tells you more about his archaeological research and new discoveries in Luxor.

Day 11 – Temple of Hatshepsut  /  Deir el-Medina  /  Colossi of Memnon

Another engrossing day in Luxor starts with a visit to the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut , one of the most characteristic temples in Luxor. It was built for the most successful female pharaoh to rule over Egypt. Next, you discover Deir el-Medina , the ancient workers’ village and home to the artisans and craftspeople of Thebes. During this visit you see the beautifully decorated tombs of the people who built the royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings. On the way back to the cruise ship you stop to admire the Colossi of Memnon , two massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. Before dinner, enjoy a traditional belly dance performance.

Day 12 – Saladin Citadel & Alabaster Mosque of Muhammad Ali

After your adventure on the Nile, you fly back to Cairo to continue your tour. Enjoy more luxury at a 5-star hotel in Giza before today’s visit to the 12th-century Islamic fortress, known as the Saladin Citadel , and the Alabaster Mosque of Muhammad Ali . The mosque was built on the summit of the citadel between 1830 and 1848, bringing an unparalleled contribution to the skyline of Cairo.

Day 13 – VIP tour of the Grand Egyptian Museum*  / Exclusive Lecture by Dr. Khaled El-Enany / Farewell Dinner

CAIRO MUSEUMS (1-day add-on)

During this one-day add-on, visit two of Cairo’s most important museums. First, explore the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities in Tahrir Square. It was built in 1902, and its iconic pink-toned walls in the midst of downtown Cairo still house an extensive collection of pharaonic antiquities. After lunch, visit the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. Just opened in 2017, the museum tells the story of Egypt’s rich history and contribution to world cultures – from ancient times through the Greco-Roman, Coptic, and Islamic periods – with fascinating exhibitions and artifacts, including royal mummies of the greatest pharaohs.

POST-TOURS:

ALEXANDRIA (1-day add-on)

The tour starts in the morning with a 3-hour drive on an air-conditioned bus. Alexandria is the second largest city in Egypt, famous for its Greco-Roman remains and Mediterranean character. The city was founded by Alexander the Great in 332 BC and was the capital of Egypt for more than 300 years. Billionaire Ankur Jain and former WWE wrestler Erika Hammond tied the knot Friday in an over-the-top ceremony that took place in front of the Great Pyramids in Egypt.

“We’re New Yorkers and there’s something so special about being in a completely different world environment,” Jain, the founder and CEO of tech company Bilt Rewards, told People following their nuptials.

“So we decided, our wedding is about having a moment together to celebrate the new beginning, having a really special party with our friends somewhere where you’re in a different world.” (Jain had originally suggested getting married in space, but Hammond was not keen on the idea.)

While the location of their wedding was unique, it wasn’t the only unorthodox detail about their celebrations: The couple had no bridal party and no wedding cake — although they did serve a birthday cake from Milk Bar.

“I had no idea what the napkins looked like or what the table setting looked like,” Hammond, 32, told People.

Jain, 34, added, “We’re not traditional wedding people. Why do you have to spend $20,000 on flowers? It doesn’t make sense.”

The couple worked to make their dream wedding with an event company called Vertex.

The one detail they were certainly involved in was the transportation of their wedding guests from the safari they brought them on in Africa back to Cairo for their ceremony.

Ahead of their welcome party, their private Egypt Air flight was halted by the South African government, leaving them in a huge bind. After the bride and groom stayed up hours trying to get their guests to Egypt, they eventually pulled it off — but it made their welcome event kick off three hours late.

“We partied until 5 a.m. having just the best opening night,” Jain recalled to People April 25. The event, which was held at the Muhammed Ali Palace, had a “Modern Cairo” theme and featured belly and fire dancers.

Jain and Hammond’s 130-person guest list was impressive as well. Some of the biggest celebrities celebrated their love, including Lance Bass and his husband, Michael Turchin, Robin Thicke and his wife, April Love Geary, “Shark Tank” investor Kevin O’Leary and his wife, Linda, influencer Serena Kerrigan, several politicians and prominent businesspeople.

Thicke, 47, surprised guests with a performance, while Bass, 44, gave an impromptu show of “Bye, Bye, Bye” near the end of the night after a stunning fireworks show over the pyramids.

“We had the best time. It was so special,” Jain gushed to the outlet. “When the fireworks went off, it was one of the most spectacular moments. I was so emotional, I couldn’t even put it into words.”

The newlyweds met at Rumble Boxing, where Hammond is a founding member. She was also an instructor there when they first interacted.

A few years later, they hit it off and got engaged in November 2022.
