Wembley Stadium Tour Review: Go Behind the Scenes

Inside Wembley Stadium

Wembley Stadium may be the most famous stadium in the world.  Pelé once said: “Wembley is the cathedral of football”.

As a sports fan, I had been to Wembley before. I went to see my favorite Dallas Cowboys play in London back in 2014.  I remember it clearly – the Cowboys won and we had a great time! Being an American, I didn’t know much about the stadium’s history.

I thought taking a Wembley Stadium tour would be a good way to learn and go behind the scenes.  Let me tell you more about our experience so that you can decide if a tour of Wembley Stadium in London appeals to you.

Wembley Stadium History Overview

Self-guided tour of wembley stadium, down at pitch level, heading to the wembley royal box, wembley tour review, wembley vip tour, logistical details for your wembley tour, purchasing wembley stadium tour tickets, how to get to wembley stadium, is the wembley stadium tour worth it, expert tips for your london wembley stadium tour.

The original Wembley Stadium was built for the British Empire Exhibition in 1924 and was intended to be a temporary structure.  Over the years, they continued to develop the stadium, but by the end of the 20th century, it just wasn’t capable of meeting the demands asked of it anymore.

The stadium was too small, old, tired, and the facilities were inadequate. It had reached the end of its usable life. Demolition started in 2002. The towers came down in 2003, which was a poignant moment for football fans across the world.   The current Wembley Stadium was finished in 2007.

Wembley played host to the Olympics, World Cup, several European football (soccer) championships, the annual FA (Football Association) Championship game, countless concerts, and even the Pope – just to name a few.  Additionally, it was (and still is) known as the home of football .

Wembley was the first place to be called “hallowed turf.” Go to enough pub quizzes in England and sooner or later the question will come up – who scored the last goal at the old Wembley? (Keep reading for the answer!)

They did try to incorporate some of the structure of the old stadium into the new Wembley Stadium.  It was not possible to move the two famous towers so instead, they used the material from the towers in the foundation.  You can also see the plaques with the winners from the 1948 Olympics preserved outside the Wembley Stadium Store.

In 2019, Wembley was also the home to Tottenham, who plays in the English Premier League, while their stadium was under construction.

The first part of your tour of Wembley Stadium is self-guided.  You are given your video/audio guide and headphones after you pass through security.  The guide was easy to use and you can repeat sections if you like or even skip any that don’t grab your attention.  During this section of the tour, you learn more about the history of the stadium.

It was fascinating to see the models of the old and new stadium.  The turnstile on displayed looked like a piece of art.  It was fascinating to think about how many people had passed through.  The videos during this part of the tour help you feel more engaged. I especially liked the 360 virtual reality ones.  The video about the arch was a bit unsettling especially if you are scared of heights.

I didn’t know much about the old stadium, so it was interesting to learn about some of the historic events that took place here.  The most talked about one is probably the 1966 World Cup Final between England and West Germany. It was decided by a controversial goal by England in extra time.  Not only can you see a video of the goal, but you can see the actual crossbar from that game and marking on the floor where the ball landed in relation to the crossbar and the goal line, calculated using modern technology.

There were also exhibits on some of the other sporting events that have taken place at Wembley like NFL games.  For those who are not into sports, the tour also included information about some of the big concerts, the Pope’s visit, and even Evil Knievel’s stunt.

Wembley Guided Tour

After we had finished seeing the exhibits, it was time to join our guide to go behind the scenes at the stadium.  First, we went outside onto the middle tier and sat in the seats. He threw out so many fascinating facts about the stadium.

The one that probably surprised me the most was that the designers of Wembley Stadium tilted the glass of all the suites five degrees to help with the acoustics.  We all stood up and yelled to test it out.

Then, we had a few minutes for photos. Our guide took a few excellent ones of us. He definitely knew what he was doing!

Next, we headed down to the pitch (field) level which is actually below ground.  After walking down a hallway with lots of memorabilia, we entered the area where the players arrive at the stadium.  Then we went into the media room where press conferences happen after games. I appreciated that we had time to go take individual pictures sitting behind the table.

After everyone had their chance to take a photo, we headed to the dressing rooms.  The first room we entered had displays for some of England’s heroes and even a few NFL players who had played at Wembley.

Next door, we found the England dressing room where each member of the national team had a spot. Their jerseys were laid out in numerical number.  Some jerseys were autographed. I wondered why Harry Kane hadn’t autographed his until our guide explained he had autographed the front of the shirt.  I was surprised that there weren’t any lockers but these areas are called dressing rooms and not locker rooms.

Anisa in the Dressing Room that plays tribute to some of the top stars that have played at Wembley.

Then, we got to see the shower block.  In addition to the shower, this area also includes some therapy beds, ice baths, toilets, and sinks.  I was a bit surprised to also find hair dryers! We had time to take photos in the dressing room and shower area then it was time to go to the tunnel.

On our Wembley Stadium Tour we saw the Shower block that the England National Football Team uses! - Two Traveling Texans

The tunnel is where the players line up to walk out on the pitch (what we call field).  Our tour guide had us line up so we could pretend to be players. He started playing a video and then opened the doors.  As we walked out onto the field, we could hear the roar of the crowd.

Since the pitch is natural grass, there is only a small area that you are allowed to walk on (where the managers can stand).  We did also get to sit in Gareth Southgate, the England manager’s, seat. Again, we had time to take as many pictures as we wanted.

View from the Wembley Pitch - Two Traveling Texans

Then it was time to head back up.  We took the same route that the players who won the FA Cup would take to claim the trophy.

It’s a little more than 100 steps through the stands to the Royal Box. When we got to the Royal Box, we had the opportunity to take a photo with the replica of the FA Cup.  This time though they have a professional photographer to capture the moment and they do not let you take any pictures. You get the opportunity to purchase the photo after the tour.

It is rare that I ever buy these type of photos, but we did this time. The photo turned out to be amazing and it was only £10. I wish Russell would have worn his Liverpool scarf though!

Our photo with the replica of the FA Cup. - Two Traveling Texans

After we left the Royal Box, we went into the Royal Restaurant.  Prince William is the head of The FA, so when he is in attendance, this is where he and his guests dine.  Our tour guide said it would normally be a five-course meal.  It’s the Royal Family so I wouldn’t expect anything less!

Our last stop on the tour was the Three Lions sculptures.  The Three Lions are the symbol of the national team. Each one was impressive in its own right and made out of a different material – paper, steel, and plastic.  The plastic one was my favorite, it was actually made from cups from drinks consumed at the stadium.

Sculptures of the Three Lions at Wembley Stadium- Two Traveling Texans

I have to admit I am not a big soccer fan, although I have come to appreciate the sport more now that I live in England.  Still, I found the tour interesting and informative. The stadium is an impressive piece of engineering and the history is remarkable.  I loved being able to go behind the scenes and see the dressing room, media room, pitch, and more.

The virtual reality videos helped to bring the stadium to life.  There were no virtual reality glasses like I had on the virtual reality tour in NYC (that would not have looked good in the pictures anyway) but some of the videos were 360 images so that the perspective changed as you moved the guide around.  The guide was easy to use. Plus, I liked that you could choose to listen to more in-depth information or skip depending on your interests.

We had a large group for the guided tour of about 30 people.  Our tour guide did a great job keeping everyone together and engaged.  I never had any issues hearing the commentary and I was able to ask questions.  Additionally, everyone had plenty of opportunities for photos.

If you would like a more intimate experience, you might want to try the Wembley VIP tour.  Groups are usually 5 people or less and you get a dedicated guide from start to finish. You also get to see a few stops that aren’t on the normal route.  The VIP Wembley Stadium tour option also includes a free gift and The FA Cup photo.

Get more information about the exclusive VIP tour here .

When you visit Wembley for your tour, there are a few things you should keep in mind:

  • Dress for the weather.  The roof of the stadium was open when we were there, so some parts of the tour were basically outside.
  • Don’t bring any large bags.  They do not have any place to store them and you will have to carry them with you as you tour Wembley Stadium.
  • There is a security check when you enter the stadium.  They did not have any issues with our snacks or water bottles.
  • The guided portion of the tour runs every 30 minutes throughout the day.  You join once you have completed the self-guided part.
  • You can take pictures throughout the tour except for pictures of the FA cup in the Royal Box.  They have a professional photographer to take your picture there.
  • There are stairs on the tour.  Our tour guide asked us if anyone had problems with stairs because there is an elevator.
  • The tour is well-suited for children especially those that like soccer.  They will also enjoy the virtual reality features.
  • The whole experience took us about 2 hours.  This can vary depending on how long you spend on the self-guided portion of the tour.

You can get Wembley Stadium Tour tickets two ways – as part of a tourist pass or individually.

The Wembley Stadium Tour tickets are included as part of the London Pass and the London Explorer Pass.  If you plan on doing a lot of sightseeing, the London Pass gives you access to 80+ of the top attractions.   Get more information on the London Pass here. The London Explorer Pass allows you to buy access to either 3,5 or 7 attractions.   Get more information on the London Explorer Pass here.

If you are not going to get one of the passes, you can book your tickets online in advance here .  For the regular tour, you choose a timeslot and can arrive any time during that period and start with the self-guided exhibitions.  The VIP tour has a set start time. You will get an email confirmation when you book and all you need is the confirmation code to check in for the tour.

It’s best to take public transportation to Wembley Stadium.  We took the Metropolitan line to Wembley Park. (The Jubilee line also goes to the Wembley Park Station).  You see the stadium as you approach the stop and then it’s a short 10-minute walk to get there. It’s a straight line so you don’t have to worry about getting lost.

You can also take the Bakerloo line or the London Overground to Wembley Central but it’s a 20-minutes walk from there to the Stadium.

If you are visiting London from overseas, consider getting a Visitor Oyster Card to save money when you use the tube.  Click here for more information on the Visitor Oyster Card.

To take the tour, enter through the Bobby Moore entrance on the north side of the stadium.  You need to walk up the ramp. You will see the stadium store. Then take the stairs up to the next level and enter right behind the Bobby Moore statue.

Note: Do not confuse Wembley Stadium and Wembley Arena – they are different.  Wembley Arena is a smaller indoor venue also located in Wembley Park. It is the 2nd largest indoor venue in London.  Only The O2 is larger.

The Bobby Moore statue outside Wembley Stadium - Two Traveling Texans

Yes. This is not just any stadium that you are touring. Wembley is one of the most historic places in the sporting world.  Having the chance to go behind the scenes and into the dressing room and Royal Box is a special experience.

If you are going to several tourist attractions while you are in London you can save with the London Pass , which includes the Wembley Stadium tour.

Have you had the chance to visit Wembley Stadium or tour another sports venue? You might also be interested to read about my tour of the Dallas Cowboys Stadium .

And if you are wondering who scored the last goal at the old Wembley Stadium it was Dietmar Hamann of Germany.

  • Bring along your camera, there are a lot of great photo opportunities on the tour.  Don’t try to bring large bags, they do not have a place to store them during the tour.
  • Wear the gear from your favorite team.  It will make the photo with The FA Cup even better.
  • Consider purchasing the London Pass or the London Explorer Pass if you plan on doing other sightseeing while you are in London.

Coldplay at Wembley review: As good as it gets in a stadium

Music of the Spheres tour

Twenty-two years on from the release of Yellow, and Coldplay remain the band you might think it’s not okay to like… until you see them live. Coldplay are – and have been for over a decade now – as good as it gets in a stadium: a startling technicolour spectacle that even the most stone-heartedly cynical hater would find impossible to resist.

The LED wristbands – each member of the audience is given one on their way in, turning the crowd into a giant, wildly oscillating light show – stunned from the outset. Add in confetti cannons, fire, cartoon masks, Chris Martin endlessly galloping, grinning up and down the runway, and it barely even matters which songs you are hearing. They played most songs from last album Music Of The Spheres – opening with the great Higher Power – and it still felt like a hits-only affair.

Coldplay, of course, have hits – as well as a burning desire to please – and we got all of them. Latter day songs Paradise, Viva La Vida and Something Just Like This, with their endless “Ooooooh-ohhh-oooohs”, were custom tooled with six nights at Wembley in mind. The older likes of The Scientist and Sparks – the latter performed on a tiny stage in the centre of the crowd – as well as a stripped-down duet with support act H.E.R. on Let Somebody Go (the one on the new album that features Selena Gomez) brought a sense of intimacy amongst all the bombast.

Music of the Spheres tour

By the time they brought out Craig David to first kill the mood by singing one of his newer songs that nobody knew, then rescuing proceedings with Seven Days, every soul in Wembley was beaming from ear to ear. Self deprecating to the last, Chris Martin made his way through an ad hoc verse that went: “Met this girl on Monday, she didn’t want to know me on Tuesday. Went off with somebody else on Wednesday, I was on my own on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Went to the cinema alone on Sunday.”

There was a third guest, too, that nobody really noticed: notoriously reclusive mega-producer Max Martin – basically responsible for every big song by anyone in the past 30 years, from Baby One More Time to Blinding Lights – snuck onstage to bang a tamborine on My Universe: the song on which he brought Coldplay together with BTS.

Fix You should really have ended the show, but Coldplay decided instead to climax with recent single Biutyful, complete with the puppets from the video. And it’s perhaps testament to the sheer likeabilty of this band that few were scarpering for the exits while they did.

Chris Martin singing against backdrop of stadium of twinkling LEDs and balloons.

Coldplay review – a barrage of hits and eye-popping spectacle

Wembley Stadium, London Music of the Spheres may have confused many fans, but the album gains depth with this inventive show

“Y ou’re never quite sure when you go home how people are going to receive you,” says Chris Martin from Wembley’s stage. It’s the kind of thing that hugely successful rock stars say to get a cheer from a home town crowd, but perhaps there is a hint of disquiet in Coldplay’s world in 2022.

What is, presumably, the most environmentally friendly tour in rock history – energy generated by stationary bikes and a kinetic dancefloor in the audience, a backstage generator that runs on cooking oil, and souvenir T-shirts priced at £45, presumably to discourage needless consumerism – arrives at a peculiar moment in the quartet’s career. A band that commercially could do no wrong for decades, everything they touched turning multiplatinum, their sales have noticeably slumped.

Last year’s Music of the Spheres was clearly intended to turn things around – shipping in the Swedish super-producer Max Martin, BTS and Selena Gomez – but seemed to succeed only in confusing Coldplay’s traditional audience, particularly in the US. If the intention was to introduce them to a new wave of teenage fans, then judging by the audience at Wembley, it didn’t work.

Singer Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, drummer Phil Harvey and bassist Guy Berryman.

But as any heritage rock act will tell you, shifting gig tickets and selling new albums are entirely different businesses these days. And if Coldplay have frequently seemed rattled in the studio in recent years, unsure of what to do next – Go extremely pop? Experiment with Malian music and doo-wop? Make a space-themed concept album and unleash their inner Pink Floyd? – then live they seem utterly assured.

They’ve been packing vast sports arenas for 20 years and here at least they know exactly what they’re doing. Chris Martin is pretty craven in his approach to milking the audience – teasing the crowd by prefacing The Scientist with a long, florid piano intro; encouraging them not just to sing along to Yellow, but to turn around and sing it to each other – but in fairness, subtlety gets you nowhere in the stadium rock game, something Coldplay clearly understand.

Moreover, they’re inventive in their approach. Handing out LED-equipped wristbands to the audience is the best idea a stadium rock band has had since playing four songs from your new album in a row and giving less committed fans time to visit the lavatory. Turning big crowds into an immense, twinkling, ever-changing light show and making the audience part of the performance in the process, the effect is genuinely stunning.

Chris Martin singing against backdrop of thousands of twinkling LED lights.

Indeed, there’s something oddly disarming about seeing Coldplay in their natural habitat. They just bombard you with hits – Clocks, Paradise, Adventure of a Lifetime, Hymn for the Weekend – and eye-popping spectacle, until any objections you may reasonably raise melt away amid the lights, pyrotechnics and confetti cannon, all cranked up to 11, and the sound of tens of thousands of voices singing along to Viva la Vida.

More unexpectedly, the live setting potentiates the sci-fi conceptualising of Music of the Spheres. Martin sings Human Heart as a duet with an immense female extraterrestrial puppet, before the band perform Something Just Like This wearing giant illuminated alien heads, which makes the whole business seem funnier and more tongue-in-cheek than it did on record

The slogan “Everyone is an alien somewhere” keeps cropping up – it’s emblazoned across guitarist Jonny Buckland’s T-shirt, which seems to suggest a link to the argument about immigration, something you would have remained completely oblivious of while listening to the album. Perhaps they reverse-engineered that one, but it doesn’t matter: you don’t really feel like nitpicking when you’re being swept along by a genuinely immersive experience.

Wembley Stadium Tour – A Review

When Buy A Gift asked if I would like to review one of their many experiences for Just Average Jen I knew I would be popular with Ben and Stuart if I chose something football related. As big supporters of The Stags (Mansfield Town Football Club) they wouldn’t be too interested in many premiership teams but a Wembley Tour seemed perfect.

There are many Travelodge hotels in the area so we could make a weekend of it without spending too much. Parking was reasonably priced too.

How to book the Wembley Stadium tour

When you receive the envelope from Buy A Gift it is really straightforward to phone up and book your family tour. It is £50 which is a little cheaper than booking the tour directly through Wembley.

If it is for a gift the paperwork says a little about it so nice for someone to open it. However, you could as easily treat yourself and your family to the tour.

BuyAGift voucher and letter on wooden table

As this was a family ticket (2 adults 2 children) we were excited to be able to take Ryan (Stuart’s nephew) with us too. He is a big football fan so was excited to join us.

Both the lads were chatting about it over breakfast the morning of the tour and couldn’t wait. Whilst I am not a football fan I was intrigued about the stadium as a venue for concerts.

Person holding a blue smart device

The Wembley Stadium tour

Upon arrival for the tour, we were each given a handheld device and headphones ready for the tour. This showed clips and VR content at designated points throughout.

Each tour has a maximum of 50 people on it and as ours was in the summer holidays it was full, as we had expected.

The tour is suitable for children though those using a wheelchair or pushchair may struggle to see everything due to the stairs and lifts going to different parts. I am not sure, so do ring and ask them directly at the Wembley tour.

Two people standing in the stands of Wembley Stadium

The tour guide was friendly and really had a lot of knowledge to share. We started the tour up in the stands where we were told some information about the structure of the stadium and how it had been designed with acoustics in the forefront.

We all shouted “Hello Wembley” as all the stars who perform here do. Wow, it was amazing how it sounded. Just to think of all the singers I know who have performed there.

Young boy stood in a dressing room in front of Henderson\'s football shirt

What can you see?

The tour included seeing inside the dressing rooms which had various shirts hanging up to be seen and photographed with.

Whilst it was quite busy with so many people in there it was manageable and great to see. This is the same area stars such as Take That would have as dressing rooms before a show.

Young boy sitting in the dressing room in front of Beckham\'s football shirt

Seeing the shirts of the stars and sitting where they sit to change was great. I personally was surprised by how little space to some degree they each get. Ben and Ryan loved it and Ben took photos of everything.

Young boy stood in the corridors of Wembley Stadium by a football boot

The tour took us through corridors all lined with photos, signed shirts and boots it was nice and fascinating to see the area full of these. It included various stars who had performed or played at Wembley so far more than just football.

There must be so many of these to choose from so I don’t envy who decided who makes the cut, or maybe everyone is around the arena somewhere?

A tiled shower room at Wembley Stadium

Seeing the showers, physiotherapy area etc was interesting and I guess I hadn’t thought that they would all shower together and imagined that whilst there would be some communal areas I thought there would be cubicles too.

Maybe that is just my lack of football knowledge though. I wonder if music groups all share a shower in here too?

They did say that American Footballers have to have the doors removed for the dressing rooms when they come as they are so wide with all their kit on!

When we went to the area where they generally do the player interviews before and after the match rather than taking photos Stuart had the idea of doing videos.

I think these are great so do feel free to have a watch. They show how many of these interviews Ben and Ryan must have watched!

The press conference area was another that was popular both with all of us and others on the tour. Posing for photos and pretending to be the managers was great fun.

The tour guide was taking photos for people if required so that all the family could be in them. There was time for everyone in the group to do this so whilst it was a group of 50 it wasn’t a problem.

Two people sitting at the press conference desk at Wembley Stadium

Wembley Stadium tour for people with autism

The whole tour was amazing and so well organised. At one point Ben’s autism caused him some problems and he had a bit of a meltdown.

The staff were amazing in supporting and an additional guide came along to help so that we could be apart from the main group which helped Ben.

They didn’t know I was there to review so I am sure this is just brilliant customer service and disability awareness .

Young boy stood by the pitch at Wembley Stadium

Running through the tunnel as if about to play a match was one part they loved. Followed by seeing the Royal box and sitting where Prince William, The Duke of Cambridge, sits was great.

There was a replica FA Cup we could hold too. This was the only part of the tour which had an additional cost. Whilst holding the cup wasn’t charged this was the only area we were unable to take our own photos.

They sold those at the end in the shop area. We paid £20 for two large photos and keyrings of the image so not too bad a price at all.

Two kids sitting in seats at Wembley Stadium

Can you imagine these two as future managers watching their teams from the dugout?

An extra to the tour

After the tour, we were outside Wembley and saw a YouTube star, Spencer Owen from the YouTube Channel Spencer FC which is extremely popular.

I must admit I didn’t have a clue who he was until I looked him up, Ryan spotted him being one of his fans.

Spencer was filming for one of his videos and seeing him really topped off, for the boys, what had already been a fabulous morning.

A group of people standing together with a football

Our overall thoughts

For football fans and concert lovers alike this would be a great family tour. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it myself being not really interested in football!

Wembley is somewhere we have all heard of and many have never been to so I would definitely recommend the tour as a family day out.

There are also individual tickets available directly from Wembley. Between us, we must have taken hundreds of photos so these are only a few!

The Buy A Gift ticket was gifted to us to review however all views above are my own and those of Ben, Stuart and Ryan who went on the tour with me.

The Ultimate Guide to visiting the Wembley Stadium Tours

Wembley stadium tour ultimate guide.

Given that it was a venue for the 2012 London Olympic Games, and even the historic 1985 Live Aid concert, you don’t necessarily have to be a hardcore sports fan to appreciate all that the Wembley Stadium Tour has to offer.

Wembley Stadium as it is known as today officially opened in 2007, and was built on the same site as the original Wembley Stadium which hosted the 1948 Olympic Games as well as the 1966 World Cup Final. After the original stadium was demolished in 2003, the new Wembley Stadium took over four years and £790 million to complete, and is now known to be the largest stadium in the UK.

The Wembley Stadium Tour, on the other hand, has been around since 1978, and has attracted millions of sports enthusiasts (and even non-sports enthusiasts) from all over the world.

Wembley Stadium Tours Highlights

Each tour is run by an expert tour guide who will lead you to some of the most historic spots in the stadium that are normally only seen on TV during historic matches and championships. Not only that, visitors to the tour will even be shown some of the more private areas in the stadium, such as England’s changing rooms, the players’ tunnel and the Royal Box.

Some of the many highlights you can expect to see during your Wembley Stadium Tour include:

  • David Beckham’s Manchester United jersey (which he wore during his legendary 1999 campaign)
  • The FA 150 Exhibition which celebrates the history of the Football Association
  • The original rules of Association Football from as far back as 1863
  • The Jules Rimet Trophy (AKA The World Cup) commemorating England’s World Cup win in 1966
  • The 107 “sacred” Trophy Winner’s Steps
  • The Royal Box where winners go to collect their prized trophies
  • England Manager’s “hot-seat” in the Press Room
  • The 1966 World Cup crossbar
  • The original flag from London’s 1948 Olympic Games
  • Steven Gerrard’s 2005 captain armband
  • Graeme Souness’ three winning medals from 1978, 1981 and 1984

Visitors will also get the chance to lift up the FA Cup for a commercial photo, and buy some unique sports memorabilia at the Wembley Stadium Store, which offers everything from English and Wembley merchandise, to footballs, scarves, caps, replica kits and much more.

Special Tips

Getting There

Visiting wembley stadium.

Stadium tours last for approximately 75 minutes, but make sure you reserve at least one hour to visit the Stadium Store afterwards as well.

You may want to check the Wembley Stadium’s official website before you plan your visit, as there are numerous closures of the stadium which take place throughout the year.

You can purchase your tour tickets at the door, however it is highly recommended that you reserve a time slot online beforehand, as tours are subject to availability.

Be prepared to walk up and down lots of steps, so try and wear comfortable walking shoes for your visit. If you happen to be visiting in July, please note that the grass pitch may be covered to prepare the field for the start of the next season.

If you want to have a bite to eat before or after your tour, there is a Stadium Tour Cafe which offers both hot and cold beverages as well as sandwiches, snacks and muffins.

Ticket prices and Opening Hours

The Wembley Stadium Tours run every day of the year, except for certain dates which have been highlighted on the stadium’s official website.

Wembley Stadium Tour tickets cost:

Parking at the Official Wembley Stadium Car Park runs on a “Pay on Foot” parking system and costs £2 for up to two hours, and then an additional £1 per hour. “The sonic aggro and infectious licks are there in spades”: For better and worse, Slash strips rock to its basest elements at Wembley Arena

Slash, myles kennedy and the conspirators bring two hours of rock ’n’ roll sleaze to london, but little in the way of arena-sized spectacle.

Slash and Myles Kennedy onstage in 2024

You can trust Louder Our experienced team has worked for some of the biggest brands in music. From testing headphones to reviewing albums, our experts aim to create reviews you can trust. Find out more about how we review.

You already know who Slash is. Put the Guns ’N’ Roses star’s name on top of a marquee and that venue will quickly cram itself, as evidenced by the turnout to tonight’s Wembley Arena extravaganza. Well, normally a concert of this size is an ‘extravaganza’ – this is very much a gig. No splendour, no spectacle… just two hours of rockin’!

Of course, Slash has never been one to evolve with the times. He’s been wearing the same top hat/sunglasses combo since the mid-1980s. Plus, from GNR to Velvet Revolver and now his work with Alter Bridge ’s Myles Kennedy and ‘the Conspirators’ (that’s bassist Todd Kerns, drummer Brent Fitz and rhythm guitarist Frank Sidoris), he’s always dealt in the same strain of rambunctiousness.

It’s an unyielding approach immediately summarised by The River Is Rising . Despite the opener being a single from Slash et al.’s 2022 album 4 , it’s moreover a shot of ’80s-style sleaze. The guitarist’s blues rock leads crackle and crunch on top of a swaggering rhythm section, while Myles’ wiry yet powerful vocals wail about “drowning in paradise” . If you’re even a passing fan of Guns ’N’ Roses (and every rocker who’s ever owned a radio is), it’s a familiar formula, but these songs amassing millions of streams and hits in their own right declares it’s a style that still has legs.

The rock remains raw through Driving Rain , Halo and Too Far Gone , by which point it becomes clear that tonight’s presentation is going to be as no-nonsense as the music. Spoiler alert: the band are going to be onstage for two hours this evening, during which time none of the 10,000 in Wembley Arena will see as much as an ember of pyro, nor the kind of fandangled video backdrop that has fast become expected at a show of this scale. In their stead is a simple SLASH curtain and … nope, that’s it. While we understand and respect that Slash is a hard rock traditionalist, some of the larger-than-life showmanship that’s always powered this genre feels lost as a result.

The setlist is similarly short on surprises. Though Slash celebrates his roots in ’80s rock with his new material, none of his actual ’80s output makes the cut. The good news is that the fleeting shocks are legitimately ear-pricking. The one Guns ’N’ Roses cover of the night is Use Your Illusion I deep cut Don’t Damn Me , led by Todd Kerns and his convincingly Axl Rose-like snarls. The band, again with Todd on lead vocals, also tackle Lenny Kravitz’s Always On The Run with attitude to match the song’s originator. The most interesting cover is reserved for the encore, however, when Slash dons his pedal steel and Myles gets to flaunt the more delicate potential of his voice in a foray through Elton John’s Rocket Man .

Ultimately, if Slash and the boys sought to celebrate every facet of the wild entity that is rock ’n’ roll, they came so close to pulling it off. The sonic aggro and infectious licks are there in spades throughout two hook-laden hours. At the same time, the spectacle and spontaneity that’s always made this genre so addictive could definitely do with a greater presence.

Facilities not up to standard of other modern grounds

Attended for the FA cup semifinal, my fourth match at the stadium. There aren’t enough facilities so at half time you are forced to choose between using the toilet, buying food and getting back to the seat for the restart. On the higher levels there are less options for food and they serve really slowly, then as half time ends stop hot food sales. Missed part of the second half and still didn’t get any food. So many other stadiums do it better, it shows a lack of care for visiting fans. Embarrassing as a national stadium.

I did the Wembley Stadium tour on Saturday morning. I thought it was brilliant! Luis , our guide was excellent, he explained everything really well, and we saw some real gems. I’m not even into football, and I found the tour really fascinating because it was also about the music history. All staff were really polite, and tour was well organised. You were given time to take photos and reflect on what been said, also you didn’t have to walk to fast. Health and safety were a priority, and Luis ensured that by making sure , any little children stayed with the adult they were with, at all times . I’d deft do the tour again, I’d also say the surrounding area is really good re:- Wembley, with the development of shops and play structures.

Useless website from start to finish. No advice, no help, complete waste of time. Impossible to buy tickets, constantly being told not eligible despite being logged in. Disgraceful delay tactics. Try to buy £1000 + tickets you will get straight through, but the ordinary fan forget it. They don’t care. Awful setup, avoid.

Well done Wembley

I attended the community shield match at Wembley with my two sons and my 8 year old grandson (football crazy) on Sunday 6 August. The short trip from Wembley Park station, whilst extremely busy, was very well policed and marshalled. Our 4 electronic tickets were on one phone so a helpful steward assisted us in getting through. Directional signage both outside and inside the stadium is excellent. Catering was good with ample stalls and quick service. Helpful staff to help you find your seats. Leaving was also easy with good marshalling ensuring easy flow to tube station. My grandson was awestruck by Wembley Stadium👏

I had a Wembley tour yesterday and it was a thoroughly great experience. My tour guide was Gemma and on the whole was quite good however doesn't know who the England Women's manger is. All in all great experience and would recommend to any football fan and make sure you get Gemma to have another look at her notes. On a side note Anthony Collins (the guy giving out wrist bands) slightly ruined my experience as he took my ball away for the whole trip. I understand why but the games the game and I wanted to share this experience with my ball. Overall Gemma was class and it was a great experience.

Wembley stadium Excellent

Took my ( unfortunately) wheelchair bound daughter to the Harry Styles concert. The disabled parking was reasonably priced, easy to book online and easy to find, the staff were absolutely brilliant in helping her and her carer to get to their place in the stadium. Both the stewards and security staff were super helpful getting them out after the gig. You should be proud of all of them. She had a whale of a time completely stress free!!! Why can't all venues be as good as this?

Missed most of the first act

Missed most of the first act, Motley Crue, because Ticketmaster failed to send our tickets. Got mobile ticket replacements, last minute, but the bar codes didn't work. Wasted a lot time sorting our tickets out. The sound quality on Row 5, was terrible. The band couldn't be heard, as the sound was just muffled, and the big screens didn't compensate for the poor visibility. We left without bothering to see Def Leppard. Will not visit Wembley Stadium again to see a band. Very poor experience.

Sent the wrong way!

My first visit to Wembley for Sunday's Blur concert. Great seats, and facilities not too bad, although food choices were not well signposted, you had to go to the counter to find out what was available. Biggest gripe was going into turnstile J and being sent anti-clockwise to get to entrance 101, whereas clockwise would have saved us walking around 80% of the stadium.

Well run stadium

Well run stadium - 4th visit this year coming up and we’re looking forward to it. Park right next door (at a silly cost, but it works for us w a disabled kid) then into Boxpark for food. Inside always plenty of space to live around and the q’s are never too long for the loos or f&d.

Awful experience

Awful experience. The show started 2 hours late with no explanation or warning, we just sat waiting wondering when it would start. There are no proper seats, they put out these awful plastic chairs which are very close to the ground. There are no drink holders so I had to put my overpriced drink on the floor only for the person next to me to knock it over before I’d even had a sip! The queues for drinks and food is insane, you can’t even move when in that area and people are pushing and shoving trying to get past the massive queues. Whole thing was awful and wish I’d never bothered

Ellen - The Three Lions Bar

Ellen (apologies, I’ve forgotten your last name but you had red hair) in The Three Lions bar was dealing with a customer that was being extremely rude towards her. Ellen professionally told him that she wouldn’t serve him and that she wouldn’t be spoken to in such a way. He continued to go on, I told him to calm down and go away, to which he did, and Ellen proceeded to give me the two drinks I’d asked for on the house as a gesture of goodwill. Really nice of her to do this and it would’ve been the highlight of the day had Luton not gone up!

Bag policy not enforced

Bag policy not enforced. Our group took the correct size bag, removed food/drink etc prior to entering stadium. Saw other people with huge bags being allowed in. We didn't go shopping and make a day of it as we'd originally planned prior to concert due to bag policy! Little disappointing. Not enough food/drink outlets open for a concert hosting 70k plus fans.

Wembley rip-off

Visited Wembley recently for the National League play-off final. We had a small rucksack which we didn’t realise couldn’t be taken into the ground. Couldn’t believe we had to pay £10 to leave it at the bag drop. Just another example of football supporters being ripped off at the National Stadium.

Great stadium badly managed especially crowd control. I attended an Ed Sheeran concert last night. When we left the crowd was channelled towards the station and continually held by stewards the problem was we hadn’t arrived by train! They closed off all side access stairs leading to the street, how ridiculous. I am old enough to have been attended cup finals at the old Wembley with 100000 people with no such stupidity. The crowd controls measures are not only frustrating but dangerous.

While waiting tho the ppl working there started to abuse us shouting screaming forcing us back so we couldn't even watch him from the stands. Girls started crying and they told us if we keep doing it we would be kicked out. Disgusted also this happened every night of harry styles we weren't the only ones. Avoid Venue if possible

VIP TOUR OF WEMBLEY STADIUM

We would highly recommend the VIP tour of Wembley Stadium. My husband and I had the tour guide all to ourselves for almost 2 hours. We had plenty of time to look at everything, take photos etc without having to avoid other visitors. Our Guide Chris was very knowledgeable, we were able to have a laugh and he could answer any questions we had. All of the staff seemed to be very pleasant and helpful. By doing the VIP tour we could go at our own speed, as I am disabled it proved very helpful, although even i managed the 107 steps to the Royal Box albeit slowly. You also get a free photo each with the FA Cup, a lovely momento of the tour and a Guide Book. The tour was a gift for my football mad husband and he loved every minute of it especially seeing many of the old players in photos etc. Not only footballers though but pop stars etc. Would highly recommend this tour.

We took 20 students for a tour around the Stadium as a reward for doing exceptional things for the P.E department. The girls had a wonderful time, and our tour guide, Adam, was awesome. He tailored the tour so that it was interesting for the girls, and captured their attention with his enthusiasm and love for the Stadium. The tour was long enough to allow the students enough time in all of the different areas, but didn't go on for too long that it became tedious. I would highly recommend this iconic tour to anyone, whether they be a football fan or not.

Went to the Liverpool v Barcelona game stadium was a bit of a walk from the train but not too bad. Easy to find with plenty of bars and food places on the way. Easy to work out where you needed to be with regards to seating. Once inside it was not great with food places just didn't look as inviting as it could have. Food places inside seemed ok but not all that and expensive that I would say wasn't value for money. Toilets easy to locate and not too bad given the amount of people.

Great informative tour. Behind the scenes, changing rooms, press room, pitch, managers seat, dug outs etc. Great memorabilia on display. Facilities whilst on the tour (not match day) to get a cuppa and a snack.

We booked the Stadium tour online. The guide was very pleasant and informative providing us with very interesting facts as he took us round this famous stadium visiting pitch, dressing rooms, Royal box etc... We were fortunate to be present when the 1966 World Cup exhibition was also on site.

Whilst Wembley seems to have followed the norm along with many other football venues in the UK, built on a generic model (ok super-sized), it does have a certain amount of history and flamboyance from the previous stadium. You cant help but approach the stadium with a lump in your throat. All too sadly though the usual British traditions sterilise the atmosphere in organised events. For the NFL and England matches I have visited the food and drink are overpriced both inside and outside the venue and fans seem to be spoon fed the activities that those organising the events seem to think the fans want.

(EXCLUSIVE, Premium Rates Apply) Prince performs after being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (Photo by Kevin Kane/WireImage)

Prince had been at a crossroads before, but never like he was at the beginning of 2004.

Popular on Variety

On February 8, he opened the 2004 Grammy Awards with a five-minute medley of “Purple Rain,” “Baby I’m a Star” and “Let’s Go Crazy” — with Beyonce — that may be the greatest opening to a music-awards show in television history. Two weeks later, he announced his first major tour in six years, noting that he’d be playing his hits again. “It’s older music, but it’s going to be played in a newer way,” he said, teasing that it might be the last time he played those songs in concert (it wasn’t). Then in March, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where he played a different, much longer medley of his hits during the ceremony — but of course what everyone remembers is his show-stealing solo during the all-star George Harrison tribute, which he finished by throwing his guitar into the audience.

Musically, “Musicology” was a return to accessibility. And although it didn’t reach the peaks of his classic ‘80s material — to be fair, not much music does — it was a vivid sampler of his musical styles that marked the return of the Prince that people knew and loved. It also was a genuine hit: The ticket-CD bundle helped loft the album to No. 3 on the Billboard 200, but it was top 5 in multiple countries all over the world without that boost, even though it didn’t have a big hit single. Recorded over several years, “Musicology”’s musical baseline is the brand of lean funk Prince was raised on — he even shouts out Earth, Wind & Fire, James Brown and others in the album’s lead-off title track, which concludes with brief, scratchy recordings of some of his own hits in a mock scanning-the-radio-dial segment. There are a couple of “Do Me, Baby”-styled bedroom ballads, bombastic rock (“A Million Days”), even the new wave pop he hadn’t done since “I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man” on “Cinnamon Girl,” complete with splashes of vintage synthesizers. It winds down with a sultry, slow-burning burst of Aretha on the soulfully bluesy “On the Couch” and concludes with the breezy “Reflection.”

Even though Prince’s musicianship was at a new peak — his blazing guitar work, multi-tracked harmonies, production and arranging show an artist at the top of his craft — he was making music that was easy to like again, which isn’t to say it was simple; but even at its most sophisticated and complex (like the jazzy interlude at the end of “If I Was the Man in Ur Life”), it went down more smoothly. Indeed, the only area where “Musicology” fell flat is in the lyrics, which, like much of Prince’s later material, could be shockingly insipid. In particular, the album’s catchiest track, “Life of the Party,” is marred by lyrics so tossed-off that it sounds like they were written off the top of his head. (“So you’re havin’ a party?/ Goody for you/ All the beautiful people gonna be there/ Yeah, that’s cool.”) Even when he tried gravitas — about politics, war, global warming and moral decay on “Dear Mr. Man” — it wasn’t much better.

Prince was not an artist who’d ever lacked confidence, but by the end of 2004, the full swagger was back in his step. He’d significantly increased his wealth: The tour grossed nearly $90 million, the album was certified double platinum in the U.S. early in 2005, and it spurred sales of his entire catalog in an era when most people still bought CDs. But more importantly, it also marked the return of the Prince people knew, one who wasn’t completely refusing to be who he’d been, and not just musically: The weird outfits and otherworldly hairstyles had been replaced by sleek, classy suits and a short, trim cut.

The year’s creative efforts also gave him a model for how to pursue the rest of his career. Any time he wanted another million (or ten), he’d hit the road in some new and unusual way. Over the following years he played everything from a months-long Las Vegas residency to a premium-price one at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood; from a series of 21 dates at London’s Wembley Arena to a handful of shows in specific regions of the U.S. — even the Carolinas. He played brief “Hit and Run” tours that were announced just days before they launched; and of course he staged what is universally considered to be the greatest Super Bowl Halftime performance of all time in 2007. By contrast, his last tour, shortly before his death in 2016, was just him accompanying himself on piano. He kept finding new ways to keep himself interested.

And although he wouldn’t again reach the upper echelons of the charts in his lifetime and his albums continued to be frustratingly hit-or-miss, his sense of innovation returned with “3121,” the album that followed “Musicology” — on it, fans of “Sign O’ the Times,” which many regard as the peak of his creativity, could find much to grab onto, at least for the first half of the album. Unfortunately, most of the other albums he released in these years were maddeningly inconsistent (and sometimes appallingly bad) but although you won’t find any hidden “Purple Rain”s, there are overlooked gems to be found on many of them — like “Lavaux” and “Laydown” from “20Ten” (the latter of which features the priceless line, “from the heart of Minnesota/ Here come the purple Yoda”), and “Better With Time” and especially “ Ol’ Skool Company ” from “MPLSoUND.” Every once in a while on those albums and others, the Prince you love pops up with something so great it’s as if he’d never gone anywhere. And that’s really the gift of his scattershot, impossibly vast musical output — even though he’s no longer here, there’ll always be something new to find.

“Musicology” was the end of Prince’s wilderness years, and in every way, it set him up for the remaining dozen years of his much-too-brief life.

Taylor Swift shares ‘Eras Tour’ rehearsals video – could ‘Tortured Poets’ be added to the setlist?

"A fortnight til Paris"

Taylor Swift has shared a video from rehearsals for the ‘Eras Tour’ , with fans speculating that her new album could be added to the setlist. Watch below.

The pop star is due to begin the European and UK/Ireland leg of her huge career-spanning tour in Paris on May 9. Since wrapping up the previous run of shows in early March, Swift has released her 11th studio record ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ .

So far, the singer has largely stuck to the same 45-track set – separated into her many eras and albums, and including an acoustic ‘surprise songs’ segment .

Swift has now posted some behind-the-scenes footage of herself in rehearsals for her next ‘Eras Tour’ leg, captioning it: “A fortnight til Paris”. The clip is soundtracked by ‘Fortnight’ , her collaborative single with Post Malone .

This has fuelled ongoing rumours that a setlist change could be in the works to incorporate the current ‘Tortured Poets’ era.

“TTPD in the setlist??? I have never been more happy that the Canadian dates were added to the tour late,” wrote one fan on Reddit in response to the video. Another said: “I just KNEW there was no way she wouldn’t add TPD to the setlist!!”

Another Swiftie said they were “so surprised” that the singer appeared to be adding her new songs: “I don’t know why, she loves to do exciting unexpected stuff like this. I just figured it would be too difficult to add it in this far into the tour.”

Others have expressed their concerns over which tracks could potentially be cut.

“I think the songs she cut from the ‘Eras Tour’ movie are what she’s going to cut to put TTPD in,” a Swiftie theorised. “So ‘Cardigan’, ‘The Archer’, ‘Wildest Dreams’…”

Someone else wrote: “Do we think she’ll remove anything to make room for it? It’s already suuuch a long show, surely a whole new set would add 10-15 extra minutes minimum.”

You can watch the video above.

This summer will see Swift bring her massive ‘Eras Tour’ to Wembley Stadium in London, where she’ll play eight sold-out concerts  with  Paramore .

In a new interview, Florence Welch – who features on the ‘Tortured Poets’ song ‘Florida!!!’ – hinted that she could make a surprise appearance on stage in the capital.

It is widely believed that The 1975 frontman Matty Healy is the subject of several songs on Swift’s new album, namely its title track and ‘The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived’ among others.

In a three-star review of ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ , NME wrote: “Swift seems to be in tireless pursuit for superstardom, yet the negative public opinion it can come with irks her, and it’s a tired theme now plaguing her discography and leaving little room for the poignant lyrical observations she excels at.

“It’s why the pitfalls that mire her 11th studio album are all the more disappointing — she’s proven time and time again she can do better.”

Shortly after the album’s release, Swift surprise-dropped an extended ‘Anthology’ edition of the record .
