Pedro Ramalho of Portugal had a breakout performance in the 77kg division today, submitting all four of his opponents en route to the final, where he’s now set to face reigning World Pro champ Lucas Protasio. Protasio, the division favorite, earned three victories on points.

Meyram Maquine will try to defend his title in the 62kg division after defeating two Cicero Costa representatives, and earning a 28 second submission in his opening round. Maquine will face Khaled Alshehi, who hopes to become the second Emirati World Pro champ in history.

The first is Zayel Al Katheeri, who will return to the 56kg division final for the second time, defending his title against Brazil’s Yuri Hendrix. Hendrix earned a huge upset victory today, taking out two-time IBJJF World Champ Thalison Soares in the quarterfinals in a 4-3 victory.

The 120kg division was filled with upsets, as Felipe Bezerra knocked off reigning champ Yatan Bueno via referee decision, and Russia’s Anton Seleznev took out two of Australia’s finest, Nico Maglicic and Anton Minenko on his way to the final.

2022’s 85kg champion Fellipe Andrew has earned a spot in the 94kg final after seven matches across two days. In the main bracket semifinal today, he submitted Catriel Oliveira, the reigning 94kg champ,  with his famous triangle. In the final tomorrow, Andrew will take on Renan Cruz.

Uanderson Ferreira and Bruno Lima are set to square off for the vacant 85kg title, meaning one of them will earn their first World Pro title. Ferreira, a rookie black belt, had a flash submission in the semifinal. Lima, of Portugal, scored two submissions in his three-match campaign today.

At 69kg, Diego Sodre will return to defend his title, this time against Sebastian Serpa. The American, Serpa, put together a solid run today, taking out division favorites like Florian Bayili and Thiago Macedo.

Mayssa Bastos defeated division rival Brenda Larissa, the 2022 World Pro champ, in the 49kg semifinal, earning her spot in the final tomorrow, where she will try to secure her third World Pro title. She’ll face Margarita Ochoa, the Atos representative.

Ana Rodrigues is also after her third title at 55kg, earning a finals berth against Alexa Yanes. ARod earned an early submission today, then a narrow victory over young Atos purple belt standout Tamara Toros of Hungary. Yanes strung together three victories today to earn her spot in the final.

Julia Alves is also set to defend her title at 62kg, where she will take on Violeta Angelova of Bulgaria.

Ingridd Sousa defeated reigning champ Isadora Silva in the semifinal, and will face brown belt Nia Blackman of the UK in the final. Sousa poses a significant challenge for Blackman; but Blackman has a chance to become the first-ever British World Pro champ.

Yara Soares will once again face her rival Gabi Pessanha in the 95kg final. Pessanha is looking for her fifth consecutive World Pro title, which would make her fourth on the list for most World Pro titles for a single athlete.

Of note, in the purple belt division, teenager Sarah Galvao won three matches to capture gold, putting up 15 points and conceding none. The daughter of three-time World Pro champ Andre Galvao and World Pro champ Angelica Galvao, Sarah could compete in the top level female brown / black division as early as 2024.

Everything You Need To Know About The AJP Tour Ranking For The 2023-2024 Season

admin

The 2023-2024 season of the AJP Tour is underway and competitors all around the world have another chance to fight for their place in the ranking for the year. With big cash prizes and plenty of prestige on the line, the most eager competitors have already started planning the season’s trips and the points they’ll be aiming to accrue on their way to the top. The best in each division can also receive a travel package from AJP to compete in the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship (ADWPJJC), giving them the opportunity to increase their points haul even further before the season ends.

So if you’re planning on being the top-ranked competitor in your division, we’ve set aside a quick guide with important details to help you plan your route to the top of the ranking. Check it out below!

In this 2023-2024 season, scores began to be computed on November 18th, and each tournament will be counted until November 2024, month that ends the season with the ADWPJJC 2024, the biggest event in the calendar that yields the largest amount points for competitors. In addition to the ADWPJJC score, the global ranking analyzes the top results of each athlete in one of the Continentals and seven of the main AJP tournaments ( Grand Slams , Continentals, Nationals, Regionals, and Internationals). This means that each competitor’s seven best performances throughout the year will be taken into account, alongside Continental and ADWPJJC scores, and this will in turn be used to define who leads each weight, age, and belt division. It’s also worth noting that if an athlete fights in multiple Continentals in the same season, the best result is the one that counts, and that gi and no gi events be counted as separate for the purpose of rankings, and as such will not be combined

The best competitors from each country, according to the AJP Tour Continental Ranking in the Men’s Professional Black Belt, Men’s Professional Brown Belt, Women’s Professional Brown and Black Belt, and Men’s Master 1 Black Belt divisions, will be awarded with a travel package from AJP to compete in the ADWPJJC at the end of the 2023-2024 season. These packages will be made available according to the number defined for each Continental Ranking (Asia/Middle East, North/Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, and Oceania).

So don’t waste any more time and start planning your journey to the top of the AJP rankings today. Compete in your local tournaments to start gathering points and then head to the most popular tournaments, such as Nationals, Continentals, and Grand Slams. To know how many points will be issued in each competition, check out their Ranking Definitions or go to AJPTour.com/Events to find out your next challenge!

WEEKEND RECAP: AJP BRINGS ITS SIGNATURE ACTION TO MEXICO, BRAZIL, AND MALAYSIA

July 17, 2023

In addition to the intense US Nationa l, which took place in Atlanta, three other countries opened their doors to receive the action-packed AJP tournaments. Between Mexico, Brazil, and Malaysia, athletes and fight fans had a multitude of options to look forward to, whether in person or through the AJPTour.tv . Check out below the highlights of each championship!

Yuri Hendrex takes the double gold at the North America Continental

Taking place between July 14th and 16th in the beautiful Mexican city of Cancun, the AJP Tour North America Continental Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023 was the place to be this weekend. After welcoming the promising Youths on the first day and the experienced Masters on the second, the Professional category took over the three fight areas set up in the Poliforum Playa del Carmen to give a memorable showing of technique and mettle.

Among the great warriors that stepped on the organization’s mats on the final day, Brazilian Yuri Hendrex (PSLPB Cícero Costha) stole the spotlight by taking the coveted double gold. Yuri started his campaign with his gi in the 62kg division, submitting Rafael Gomez (Affinity Studios Colombia) in the semis before reaching the last match of the bracket. In the gold round, another submission, this time against Enrique Guerrero (Alfa EC JiuJitsu), would put Yuri atop the division’s podium and set the tone for his return later that day.

Brimming with confidence, Yuri stepped onto the mats once more, this time aiming for the no-gi title. On his way stood the local Mario Navarrete (Wolfpack Jiu Jitsu Mexico) in a best-of-three bracket, but Yuri didn’t slow down and submitted once again to take the first win. In the second and last bout, Yuri used his technical know-how to overcome Mario, landing a 10-3 score to take his second gold medal.

Muhamad Fikri wins two gold medals in Malaysia

On Saturday, July 15th, athletes of all ages and graduations were welcomed at the AJP Tour Johor Bahru International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023. With two fight areas positioned in the Educity Sports Complex, warriors from all corners of the world made their way to Malaysia, seizing yet another opportunity to test their skills and rise through the ranking.

The Indonesian purple belt Muhamad Fikri (Gracie Barra South Jakarta) rose to prominence after conquering two gold medals. First, in the 77kg bracket, Muhamad dominated Thanapat Detharn (Gato Studio BJJ) with a 16-1 score. Then, in the final, a well-placed submission gave Muhamad the upper hand against the Vietnamese Duc Lam (Gisdio) to earn his first title.

Later, in the Open Lightweight bracket, Muhamad started by submitting fellow countryman and teammate Willy Hong in the semifinals. In the final round, the Emirati brown belt Yousof Alhosani (ADNOC) posed a real threat to the Indonesian’s campaign, but Muhamad used his technical prowess to land the scoreboard at 4-1 and overcome the last obstacle in the way of his hard-earned gold medal.

Iranslav Neoral and Daniel Martins take the absolute title at the South Brazil Regional

On Sunday, July 16th, Brazilian athletes swarmed the city of São José dos Pinhais for the AJP Tour South Brazil Regional Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023. With six fight areas and 800 points in the ranking for each gold medalist, the Centro de Esporte e Lazer Max Rosenmann became a battlefield for colored belts looking to accrue the necessary experience to reach the next level of their training and black belts hungry to add another achievement to their names.

Iranslav Neoral (Alicerce Jiujitsu) and Daniel Martins (Alliance Mario Reis) were the highlights of the day after each fought hard and conquered their respective absolute divisions. In the Open Lightweight bracket, Iranslav began his golden path by submitting Lucas Baia (Ocsjj) in the semifinal. Then, in the final round, Iranslav fought a very balanced match against Gustavo Silva (Checkmat International), taking the top spot on the podium by a 5-4 score.

In the Open Heavyweight division, Daniel Martins had to face two opponents to reach the gold medal. First, he outscored Andre Luiz Catanhede (Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club) by 2-0 in the semifinals. In the last match, Daniel once again showed his technique and used the scoreboard to beat Itamar Biondo (Ocsjj) by 3-1, taking the win and the absolute title.

Established in 2009, the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP) Tour is the largest professional jiu-jitsu tournament in the world with 80+ events spread across 6 continents each calendar season.

The prestigious series of contests culminate in the grand finale at the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, held once per year in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates. Each April, over 6000 competitors from around the world descend upon Abu Dhabi, ready to carve their names into the annals of jiu-jitsu history and battle for the chance to become "World Champion," and take home the largest cash-prize award in the jiu-jitsu world.

Held under the patronage of His Highness, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the AJP Tour strives to achieve Sheikh Mohammed's vision of 1) establishing jiu-jitsu as a professional mainstream sport recognized around the world; and 2) transforming Abu Dhabi into a world powerhouse of the sport.

AJP Tour events are broadcasted and streamed live to an audience of over 10 million viewers in 60+ countries via international sports broadcasters such as Abu Dhabi Sports TV in UAE, Canal Combate in Brazil, Fox Sports in Europe, Match TV in Russia, Tencent's Penguin Live in China, and FloSports online worldwide.

The AJP Tour season 2022-2023 will consist of a variety of events on all six continents and at different levels of competition:
