Depending on what type of coverage you’re looking for, Allianz offers several different travel insurance options. Allianz’s plan choices fall under single trip or annual/multi-trip plans.

Single trip plans are designed for individuals who are leaving their home, visiting another destination (or destinations) and returning home. These travel insurance plans are the most comprehensive and provide benefits like trip cancellation, trip interruption and medical coverage. 

Annual/multi-trip plans are designed for those who like to take a lot of little trips throughout the year as well as for business travelers. Because the coverage period is longer, these plans are more expensive.

Some of these plans include medical coverage only while others also provide more comprehensive travel insurance perks. There’s coverage for business equipment as these plans are geared toward work travelers.

Allianz offers five travel insurance plans for single trips, including a plan that's mainly focused on emergency medical coverage.

The OneTrip Cancellation Plus plan is geared toward domestic travelers who are looking for trip cancellation, interruption and delay coverage but don't need post-departure benefits like emergency medical or baggage loss. This plan is Allianz’s most affordable option.

OneTrip Basic, Prime and Premier are three comprehensive travel insurance plans.

OneTrip Basic is the most economical plan and offers trip cancellation, interruption and delay benefits along with emergency medical and baggage loss.

OneTrip Prime provides all the benefits of the Basic plan but with higher limits, a few extra coverage areas and complimentary coverage for children 17 and under when traveling with a parent or grandparent.

OneTrip Premier offers the most coverage, doubling almost every post-departure limit of the Prime plan with more covered cancellation reasons.

If you don't need pre-departure trip cancellation and interruption protections or you already have coverage through a premium travel credit card , the standalone OneTrip Emergency Medical plan may be a good choice. The plan mainly provides emergency medical protections along with some baggage loss/delay benefits.

Allianz single-trip plan cost

Here's a look at the cost of an Allianz travel insurance policy for a one-week, $1,500 vacation to Croatia in August 2020 taken by a 30-year-old from Texas.

The OneTrip Premier is the most expensive plan and provides the highest level of protection, especially for emergency medical events.

However, if you’re OK with lower limits on emergency medical, a OneTrip Prime or Basic plan could be a more appropriate choice. These costs represent a range of 3.4%-7.5% of the total cost of the trip, which is in line with typical costs of 4%-8%, according to the U.S. Travel Insurance Association.

Allianz offers four different annual/multi-trip plans.

AllTrips Basic is suitable for those who would like emergency medical coverage while abroad but don't need trip cancellation and interruption benefits. The AllTrips Prime, Executive and Premier plans provide an entire year of comprehensive travel insurance benefits.

The Executive and Premier plans offer various levels of trip cancellation and interruption benefits. The Executive plan is specifically designed for business travelers since it offers protection for business equipment.

Allianz annual/multi-trip plans cost

Let's look at an example of an annual Allianz travel insurance plan that starts in July 2020 for a 50-year-old from Illinois.

Coverage under these plans is offered for trips up to 45 days in length.

The AllTrips Executive plan costs significantly more than the other plans; this is mainly due to higher trip cancellation coverage, emergency medical and business equipment protections. The Executive coverage amount for trip cancellation can be increased beyond what is quoted here, driving that plan's price up to as much as $785.

If you’re not concerned with pre-trip cancellation benefits and don’t need the increased level of medical coverage, the Basic plan is the most affordable option.

For trips longer than 45 days, the AllTrips Premier plan might be a better choice as it offers coverage for up to 90 days. Using the same search parameters but with 90 days of coverage per trip, the cost of the annual plan is $475.

Choosing the right plan for your trip involves understanding what type of coverage you will want while you’re abroad.

If you have a premium travel card (e.g., the Chase Sapphire Reserve® ): These cards often offer some trip cancellation and trip interruption coverage, so you may not need a plan that offers all the same coverage. In this case, getting the OneTrip Medical plan might be enough.

If you’re going on a trip and returning home: OneTrip Prime, Basic or Premier are good options to choose from while offering different levels of coverage.

If you’ll be going on multiple and longer trips: the AllTrips Premier plan might be best as it provides insurance benefits for trips up to 90 days in length. The remaining three annual AllTrips plans cover multiple trips, up to 45 days.

If the coverage provided by your card isn’t adequate, you don’t have credit card coverage or you didn’t pay for your trip with that credit card: In these instances, it's best to choose a comprehensive plan depending on how much coverage you need and for how long. Consider one of the single trip or multi-trip plans.

High-risk activities: Skydiving, bungee jumping, heli-skiing, and other types of high-risk sporting activities that the insurer deems unsafe.

Intentional acts: Losses sustained from intoxication, drug use, self-harm and criminal activity.

Specifically designated events: Epidemics, natural disasters and war are specifically mentioned in the policy as exclusions.

It's important to note that exclusions may vary based on the policy and where you live, so it's always best to review the fine print to ensure you’re clear about what is and isn’t covered.

No, Allianz doesn't offer the Cancel For Any Reason optional upgrade. Review the policy details of the Allianz plan you’re considering to ensure you’re comfortable with the list of covered reasons. For example, the loss of a job can be considered a covered reason, but wanting to cancel a trip because you’re afraid to travel isn't.

Most often, you will need to file a claim with the insurer after you’ve incurred costs. If the claim is approved, you will receive a reimbursement. In other instances (e.g., covered baggage delay), the insurer will pay you a fixed amount per day and you won’t need to submit receipts.

AllTrips Executive, on the other hand, is a multi-trip plan designed for business travel with higher trip cancellation and interruption limits and coverage for business equipment. You can also opt for OneTrip Rental Car Protector if you need primary car rental coverage against collision, loss and damage.

This is a customer service review for Allianz itself. All current Yelp entries that I see are for insurance brokers that sell Allianz. In addition to everything else, COVID-19 has upended the travel industry - and the travel insurance industry. In our case, we bought a policy in January 2020 for a trip scheduled for June 2020. That trip didn't happen, naturally. It was postponed for a year, but Allianz had no trouble rewriting the policy for 2021. This year the trip was postponed again, but only until September. Meanwhile we scheduled a longer trip for which the original trip was the first part. The tour company also contracts with Allianz (our first policy was our own). Their contract requires that they insure the entire trip; they could not pick up where the original left off. That left us with two policies covering the same trip, one of them a year and a half old. I didn't think Allianz would cancel the older policy, but I tried calling them anyway. Imagine my surprise when they not only allowed me to cancel, but offered to refund the ENTIRE premium, no sliding scale, even though the policy was a year and a half old. This all happened last week, and my credit card company reported the refund last night. I reward good customer service. Allianz will get my business moving forward.

What a rip off this insurance was!! I am sick to my stomach!! As bad as was enough that lost lots of money from trip. Our claim for 2 tickets of the Foreigner concert on 23rd of March in Las Vegas was denied!! Because they don't cover on animals. To me that shouldn't be matter what the reason is. We paid for contingency. Our senior cat Winky was in emergency situations. If you do not value pets as a family member. I don't think that is very unreasonable reason to not pay our claim. That was a bad enough coming him from trip way earlier. Just don't understand why they don't pay our claim. Shouldn't be matter any reason. It's not death & accidental insurance. Pets are very important reason. If you don't value pet's emergency situation. That is not an honest business. Therefore I highly not recommended this insurance.

This company is a rip off. Their ad says "If you have a covered travel delay, our travel insurance can reimburse you for necessary, eligible expenses like hotels and meals. Without insurance, delays can be expensive." "OneTrip Prime includes generous benefits: trip cancellation/interruption, emergency medical and emergency transportation, travel delay and more." So the airline had a mechanical problem, he missed the last flight of the day, had to stay in Dallas, and didn't get into Abilene until the next day from Phoenix. His nonrefundable hotel was NOT covered. Why? THEY ONLY COVER STRIKES (AND ONLY IF NOT ANNOUNCED) AND WEATHER. This is from "line 11" on the policy. Their front-page on line ad talks about trip interruption twice --- but only covers 2 highly unlikely events? Talk about misleading.

This is got to be the one most difficult insurance companies to deal with. I had an extremely hard time getting my claims processed. It took a number of months. This despite the fact they said it should only be a couple weeks. I sent multiple emails to them with verification they had been received but none of the agents indicated they had received them, until much later. I even sent certified mail to them where they had to sign for my claim. They did not recognize that even though the Postal Service had given an exact time and date, and name of the person who signed for my claim paperwork. Either one of two things happened to explain this in my mind. 1. The Postal Service fabricated the name of the person who signed for it and the exact time and date (To be noted the sent address was verified multiple times as being 100% correct). OR 2. The Insurance company somehow had a disconnect on a received claim, I suspect doing this in hopes I would give up on Having my claim processed. This, Supported by the fact that they also denied receiving my claim material Electronically , Despite having email verification that it had been received I highly suspect that The second option is most likely. I would most definitely look at other travel insurance companies before considering Allianz.

1. American Airlines conveniently has this "insurance" company on their website as an offer while purchasing tickets. 2. You think you're good because "insurance" is insurance and covers your ticket if you have to cancel. 3. WRONG! 4. Have to cancel the trip? American Airlines said to contact the "third party insurer directly" and avoids any responsibility. 5. We call and are told by "Allianz" that our reason (schedule conflict) for cancelling isn't a valid reason and they won't refund the money. 6. This is an outrageous and brazen rip-off that implies assurance, but in reality, has only 16 specific and "valid" reasons that they accept. They never of course show you these reasons up front, just the emotion of having your ticket covered, so you click and move on. We feel we've been scammed. Never again! Shame on American Airlines and shame on Allianz!

So far I have had a horrible experience dealing with Allianz. I have been utterly disgusted by the appalling behavior on their part. My father passed away about a week before our trip (over 2 months ago). I have sent the death certificate and ALL other requested documentation over three weeks ago. Every time I call I get the run-around. They claim that they have a high volume of claims and that's why it's taking longer. It appears that part of their business model is to keep your money for as long as possible hoping you'll just give up. The job of the customer service representative is to get rid of you, not to help you. Do NOT buy their insurance, do NOT do business with them, it'll be a complete waste of your time and money!!!!!!!

CONSUMER BEWARE!! I have never had to redeem my travel insurance before. I bought ALLIANZ because of their great reputation. Well, as bullets were flying in Mazatlan and the US Embassy and Consult issued a Level 4 Emergency (American Do Not Travel), we cancelled our wonderful trip to Mazatlan in January, 2023. Disappointed, to say the least, we cancelled and I notified ALLLIANZ. I then had to submit MANY receipts to prove we didn't go and I didn't get refunds. Some documents I had to do several times. But, I thought, no problem, this amazing company will stand by their reputation and refund my money. Their response---- "Thank you for choosing Allianz Global Assistance to protect your recent travel investment. We are sorry that your travel experience did not go as planned. We have completed our review of your claim, and unfortunately are unable to provide benefits under the coverage you purchased because: Your insurance program provided Trip Cancellation benefits for very specific reasons. Unfortunately, any government prohibitions or regulations are not included among those reasons. Based on the claim documents you submitted, we regret that we are unable to honor your claim." My claim...right from their policy: 16. A terrorist event happens within 100 miles of any U.S. or foreign city you are traveling to during your trip, as indicated on your original itinerary. The following condition applies: a. A terrorist event must not have occurred within 25 miles of that city any time in the 30 days prior to your policy's Coverage Effective Date. Conclusion---------------Make your decision wisely for Travel Insurance. Obviously, I think I made a mistake by choosing ALLIANZ. Nancy Landauer

I have been waiting for a settlement for over a month. Impossible to get a hold of a person. Emails returned as "undeliverable". Went with this insurance due to booking a flight via Pricline. I will never use either again.
