Atlas MedStaff Travel Nursing Agency Review 2023

  • Last Updated: April 18, 2023

One of the great advantages of Atlas MedStaff travel nursing agency is the immense experience its team has in the world of travel nursing .

They’ve been in the game over three decades, and plenty of their nurses have created lifelong friendships within the company. This has created a unique family culture that only mid-sized agencies can support.

The Atlas MedStaff management creates an agency experience that fully understands the stresses of the modern healthcare industry. They also understand the overwhelming feelings the industry can induce in any caregiver .

That’s why any nurse that signs with them receives their full support and attention. This is regardless of whether they’ve been on many travel nurse assignments before, or if they’re complete newbies to travel nursing.

Whatever the case, Atlas MedStaff travel nursing agency is committed to connecting each of their nurses with their ideal travel assignments.

Table of Contents

A unique adventure for every travel nurse, 1. plenty of insurance, 2. wide range of benefits, 3. paid private housing options, 4. long-term relationship, experience varies depending on the recruiter, conclusion , why choose travel nursing with atlas medstaff.

There’s one belief at the core of the Atlas MedStaff travel nursing experience.

Its recruiters and managers believe that every nurse deserves a travel healthcare agency that actually cares about them and views them as individuals.

That’s why their travelers are a tight-knit community led by transparent managers and co-founders. They’re all dedicated to providing travel nurses with both fair compensation and the potential for adventure.

Those are not just empty words. Every one of their travel staff gets a free Atlas Adventure that’s uniquely suited to them.

Do you like the adrenaline or skydiving, or the perseverance necessary for mountain climbing? Are you an avid skier, or do you just want to spend a weekend at the spa? When you travel with Atlas MedStaff, all of this is possible.

Granted, these are all subjective experiences of individual nurses.

However, there’s no denying the fact that Atlas MedStaff remains one of the fastest-growing travel nursing agencies in the entire country.

Also, Staffing Industry Analysis shows they’re one of the most prospective healthcare staffing companies in general. They’ve received multiple industry awards and recognitions for their diligent and thoughtful approach to the management of travel nurses.

Pros and Cons of Atlas MedStaff Travel Nursing Agency

There are several upsides to working with Atlas Medstaff travel nursing agency. Some of them include:

  • Atlas Adventure
  • Plenty of insurance
  • Wide range of benefits
  • Paid private housing
  • Long-term relationship

The pros definitely outweigh the cons for this agency.

The only drawback we noticed is that your experience will depend on the quality of your recruiter.

4 Benefits of Travel Nursing with Atlas MedStaff

Let’s first look at the advantages of working with Atlas MedStaff.

We discuss 4 of them here.

When it comes to medical insurance, Atlas MedStaff travel nursing provides an incredibly plentiful package.

They offer both HSA and PPO options as Blue Cross Blue Shield partners. This also includes substantial telehealth services, which has become especially important during the pandemic.

Furthermore, the Atlas package includes dental insurance through two incredibly comprehensive dental plans. There’s even an option that provides orthodontia coverage to the kids of their nurses.

Besides that, there’s vision insurance in the form of a base vision plan. This can be upgraded with a “buy-up” plan, providing coverage for advanced optic needs.

Finally, there’s voluntary life insurance divided into increments ranging between $10,000 and $100,000. This insurance comes with guaranteed eligibility.

Alternatively, the coverage goes up to three times of a nurse’s base salary if there’s evidence of insurability. The coverage also extends to a nurse’s children and spouse.

Besides the base insurance coverage and competitive salaries that Atlas MedStaff travel nurses get, the agency also provides them with hospital, accident, and critical illness plans.

These plans assist with cost coverage in case of unexpected problems.

On a brighter note, there’s also money to be made from referrals. Nurses that recommend their friends to the agency will get a hefty $750 bonus for each nurse that stays with Atlas MedStaff for at least a month.

Atlas MedStaff knows that no nurse will be happy with their assignment unless they’re satisfied with their housing.

That’s why they provide all of their nurses with assistance in finding the best possible place. Meanwhile, they also give a housing stipend to nurses that already know where they want to live.

Rather than treating their nurses like mere numbers, Atlas MedStaff constantly tries to form future-proof, long-term relationships with their staff.

For instance, they provide continuing education programs through their partner companies. These programs offer a variety of courses for all kinds of nursing specialties .

Furthermore, they make saving for retirement easy through a generous employer-matching Atlas MedStaff 401(k) program.

Disadvantage of Travel Nursing with Atlas MedStaff

Atlas MedStaff travel nursing clearly offers a lot of benefits and quality-of-life features that make them stand out among other travel nursing agencies .

However, there is one drawback to note.

It’s worth pointing out that each nurse’s experience will only be as great as their individual recruiter.

Be sure to foster a good relationship with the right recruiter, and hopefully you won’t have to worry about this disadvantage.

Atlas MedStaff travel nursing agency is a fantastic option for any nurse looking for adventure and lucrative travel assignments.

Just remember, you’ll want to make sure you connect with the right recruiter to get the assignments you want.

Great Agency. Will travel with them again.

I am on my first assignment with Atlas. My recruiter is good about answering any questions I have and I feel that she wants to keep me happy. The pay is not the best and the cost of insurance is ridiculously expensive.

After 16 years and many companies I have found the one that I plan to never leave. My recruiter is the best ever and the integrity of this company is what I want working for me.

This is a fantastic agency. Not only are they fast growing and continue to remain within the top ten of several reputable ranking sites they are simply fun and cool to work with. When other nurses ask me about what its like to work with them I often compare Atlas to the Apple or Google of the Travel agencies. They work with their nurses and other allied staff to encourage relationship development with their recruiters by doing lots of different things. Atlas is doing a great job of using their social media platforms to create a fun, informative, and unique way of looking into the travel business. With weekly episodes like Atlas All Access, Wine-O-Wednesday, Atlas Now Streaming, and even A Beer with Atlas, they not only introduce their different personnel to the community but offer different tips and suggestions for travelers along with where to look for a good brew! I’m all about doing what I need to find a good contract but at this point I might be willing to pass on some other higher paying contracts just to stay within this company because I know I’ll be well taken care of.

I love Atlas Medstaff and my AWESOME recruiter Pete Geldes. It’s like I’m married to Atlas. I don’t even entertain other travel nurse companies phone calls or recruiters.

I have never had any issues and have always had a paycheck on time with great selection in the assignments and cities. The only issue I truly have is that the pay is not on the highest end and the insurance is pricey for a HDP for 2 people.

I have traveled off and on for 7 years with multiple companies. Ive been with Atlas for 1.5 years now. It is in my opinion the best run and nurse friendly company out there. Pete G is my recruiter and he is the best. I can talk to him like a friend, he makes sure my assignment is going well and lets me know frequently that he appreciates me and my hard work as well. He planned my Atlas adventure to go to the race in Kansas City and my husband and I had so much fun, most companies do not thank you like that for your part. I was fortunate to do an assignment in Omaha and got to visit everyone in the office a few times. Everyone is so friendly, kind, down to Earth and honestly enjoy their jobs too which is refreshing. Atlas is where you belong if you dont want to be just a name and paychecks. Atlas is a second family and the only company Ill travel with!

I have been with three different agencies and Atlas medstaff is by far my favorite. Very professional, friendly, and easy to work with. I would definitely recommend them to anybody who is pursuing a travel nurse career.

I love Atlas! Theyre always there for me if I need them and treat me like family!!

Atlas Medstaff has made me feel apart of their company from the second I met them. They are determined to go above and beyond in all aspects of travel nursing. I have met many employees with all different job titles and all have the enthusiasm and compassion that anyone would look for in a company. I would recommend this company to any and all travels, new or old.

I want to love this company as much as everyone else but I’m just not sure they meet the bar claimed. Pay packages are good, locations average with everyone else. Recruiters are mixed, mine is nice but not very responsive when I’m looking for a contract and that’s bad for them. Social media shares tons of gifts given to certain nurses (maybe from certain recruiters), but not all nurses get random and sometimes pricey stuff sent to them. One nurse I met just didn’t click with the recruiter but was denied a different one from the company owner. Guess what? She doesn’t use them. Benefits are fine, insurance is high cost. Travel reimbursement is capped below the general cost of the move.

Recruiter didn’t know many special tasks required for assignment in Hawaii, yet kept telling me she has sent nurses there all the time. I was told I wouldn’t start at the hospital on a certain date and was wrong when i didn’t show up. Only gave me enough travel reimbursement for one way. Doesn’t give stipend if put on call. No guaranteed hours.

I worked 2 assignments with other travel nurse companies before finding Atlas. They have been honest and I get offered best wages up front with no game playing. I have been extremely happy with Atlas and will continue to work for them as long as I am a travel nurse.

I could not be any happier with Atlas! They treat you like family and truly care about you!

I have had the best experience with Atlas. They have went above and beyond for me since Ive been a part of their team. My recruiter is amazing and more than I could have ever dreamed of. Definitely loyal to them as a travel nurse company.

Atlas has been great to me and has provided me with a great recruiter that I can trust and know that they are there for me and have my back! Rich Smith takes pride in his nurses and recruiters and goes out of his way to be transparent and open in all aspects of atlas medstaff! I’ve found the place where I belong!

Love working with Atlas. My recruiter Heather is awesome. I love that the owner Rick is always available as well.

Excellent company where I feel like i’m at home with family.

Ive been through some ups and downs with this agency and I stuck through that because after doing my research they were the only agency willing to make some things right. My paycheck is always on time. The fluctuations are work related only. Ive never had to take housing but their stipend is one the best Ive compared around. Im so grateful for this agency and my recruiter and what they have done above and beyond for me and my family. Atlas

Love this company. My recruiter is one amazing friend and business partner of mine!!! Always gets stuff done!!!

Aaron Biddle is a phenomenal recruiter and I recommend him to anyone who asks for a great recruiter! He is always available by phone, kind, understanding and so incredibly helpful. Atlas Medstaff has made my first year of traveling a great one!

Supportive, always has my back, understands and promotes patients safety, goes above and beyond

I would like a little more follow up. But they have always been honest and on time.

Atlas has a great family first philosophy.

Atlas is not just my company, but my family! They take fabulous care of their nurses and I am so grateful!

My recruiter Heather is very helpful and friendly. Seems to look out for me.

Amazing leadership who has their travel nurses in their best interest

Very honest, kind, always trying to be sure nurses are safe and happy. If they can’t make it happen it’s because it is not possible, not for lack of trying.

Most honest agency Ive ever had the pleasure of working with in treated as family. Im supported in everything I do.

Great to work with!

Very family oriented. They are always checking on me with new assignments

My recruiter is Jake Brower he’s awesome. I worked with PPR and Med pro staffing previously. I liked Med pro. PPR was a bunch of arrogant jerks who never called me and constantly low balled me and ignored my phone calls.. Jake has changed the game. Actually. This company changes the game. This is a place where nurses are family. They are people they are loved. They are called to check on them. There for you when something bad happens. Day or night. Remind you constantly of how great you are. How important you are to them. I have met tons of nurses who swear by them. I can promise you. I got to work for them. Any assignment any bad day I do a good job because I’m working with them. No other company is like that. And I have worked with the supposed best. No no this is the best. They were quick to find me assignment. Truthful about pay. Honest. They invest everything in their nurses. I will not recommend any other company. They are superior to all. The CEO is awesome he gets so excited for his nurses. They love their jobs. Therefore they love their nurses. I send all my new travelers to them 🙂

I was excited to work with Atlas after hearing so many things about how amazing they were and such. I had an issue and the agency did not have my back. I felt my license was on the line and they told me that they would no longer work with me. I then reached out to the owner and spoke with the owner and he said that this is a different story than what he had heard. I was told that I would hear back from him and I haven’t. They do offer so many nice gifts and such but when push comes to shove, they are like all the other agencies, out for themselves and not the nurse. I would not recommend at all.

This is my first travel assignment and my recruiter and the entire team walked me through every step. Paychecks show up in my acct every week. When there was an issue on the floor I was assigned they backed me 100% and made sure I was reimbursed for every cent. Matt checks on me at least weekly. No matter what the question is he answers usually in less than 24 hours. Cant see why I wont go with this company again.

Great company to work for. My recruiter John is as good as the get! Didn’t rate housing have never used it. Benefits are the average and find I insurance a bit high in comparison. There are a few agencies that offer sick/vacay pay nut not sure about salary. Overall a great agency to work for. I have extended six times with these guys!

I was spoiled by my previous company but Atlas outshines everyone. They are very concerned and caring toward their nurses and always available to help. The insurance is unbelievable. I am glad I hooked up with this amazing company and look forward to many years with them.

I love Atlas. Honest, transparent, one of the best agencies out there. I get my own housing, but the stipend is generous and I never have a problem. Cannot recommend this agency enough. Felt that they had my back in a sketchy hospital, and now my recruiter makes sure that nurses know what they’re getting into at that hospital. He also actively warned me about another hospital where he had multiple nurse complaints, even though it was a high paying contract. You can’t go wrong with Atlas.

Loved my Recruiter, loved my assignment!

Atlas Medstaff is phenomenal they really look out for there nurses and help them in any way that they can

Honest and accountable. Periodic calls to check on satisfaction with assignment and how things are in general. Good communication with both myself and my husband, who helps me keep track of travel details. Even inquired about our fur baby, who is important to us.

Absolutely the best company I’ve worked for!

Can’t rate housing, I have my own. Love working with Atlas.

Very honest, no smoke and mirrors, bend over backwards to help you, available when you have questions at anytime with quick response time. My first time traveling and I don’t want to try any other company !!

I waited for a permanent job to start in Florida the agency contacted me and I was on my way to my first assignment faster than the local hospital could do their part. My agent is so knowledgeable and helpful. They trusted me as a first time traveler to advance me 1200 for rent and deposit. They are truly amazing to work with . Any issue I have had they have responded in 1hr or less every time with a solution or suggestion. I truly am greatful to have found them. My recruiter Diane is like another mother and she actually cares! I have nothing but great things to say about them.

Atlas MesStaff has been a wonderful company to work with! They really do go the extra mile to make sure as their traveler you have everything you need (and more) to do your job.

Atlas Medataff is always available and supportive. They will work on your behalf and negotiate the highest pay for your assignment. I have never had an issue with getting my pay or a contract with exactly what I want.

Atlas is awesome. They are very professional and answer any and all questions. I just love them to death

I have extended with this company 3 times. Elsa is a great recruiter, I feel like family. Pay is always on time, very professional yet with a funny bone:), dedicated to the nurse and very supportive.

Failed to advocate, instead blaming RN. Contracted 13 weeks assignment but was short of 1 week luckily landlady was very considerate allowed me to end the rental agreement at a week earlier. Eric talks a lot like there’s no punctuations in the sentence or it is his way of not allowing you to speak your rights. Small company who are not a direct vendor to any facility.

My experience was the total opposite. Especially about the recruiter. In the very beginning very nice but towards the end bullying tactics were used. I had to fight for everything myself. My contract started out 13 weeks and I was extended quite a few times and ended up staying a whole year. I was even offered a permanent position. I even kept working when I broke my foot. I got hurt while working and had to claim worker’s comp. I was told it was not worker’s comp because I didn’t have their medical insurance. Since I knew better I didn’t let that stop me when my recruiter refused to give me the worker’s comp information I needed to file a claim. So I called the state worker’s comp board and they contacted the insurance carrier. Then the worker’s comp (Traveler) started avoided calls, emails, and denying going to see a specialist without giving reason. Paid the minimum amount of medical bills before after a whole year of accepting claim now they say it’s not work related. Left with unpaid medical bill and a letter stating I had 2 years to appeal. Now my contract was canceled 4 months sooner than expected so my recruiter tells me he can find me another position loved working with me but I had to take their medical insurance because they are spending too much money on my worker’s comp bills we can split the cost 50/50. Are you kidding me. Now I’m finished with that. Let’s move to my work order. It stated that I was guaranteed 24hrs up to 40 with call back hours. So whenever the cases were low they sent me home first even if I only worked 8 hours that week that’s all they paid me. I said no that’s not right. Over and over back and forth with the recruiter with the OR Manager, because she’s thinking she’s saving money. For months this went on and no one would listen and it really made me look unprofessional. Oh did I mention the hospital had me sign their contract when I first got their? Smile! So I never received a copy with all of the signatures. The Director of Human Resources was pulling it for me apologizing for not getting me a copy sooner. I said by the way smile, can you explain to me what this verbiage means? She said sure because we couldn’t get anyone to come we had to sweeten the pot. I said really smile as I pulled all of my pay stubs out.I said I haven’t been getting paid. She said WHAT? Smile. She said I explained with your company over and over and I told my OR Manager too. So she got the company on the phone put them on speakerphone. They apologized up and down. She went on to say we really love her here and we want her happy I want this corrected immediately. The OR Manager made me account for every single hour. But I could and I got paid. The company got their back pay in the high thousands oh whatever you want we love you wait a minute why did I have to go through all of that. That was your job. So insist on getting everything in writing before you sign and keep copies of all timecards and never ever let anyone bully you. No I did not take their insurance no I will never work with them ever again.

I’m on my third contract with Atlas Medstaff. My pay is always right and always on time! Crystal Austin is available to me 24/7 and is always supportive.

After renewing my assignment for the 3rd time they surprised me with a lower travel payout. Had they been forthcoming and reputable about the lower travel pay I would have been open to accepting it or had the choice to decline the assignment and look elsewhere. Instead they said nothing and slipped it in under the radar. I consider this to be unprofessional and will seek other travel companies to work with.

My nurse recruiter, Eric, is efficient, friendly, & keeps up with what’s going on without being obnoxious, seeing as I work nights & sleep during the days. His consideration is appreciated, esp. as I keep getting calls from other agencies waking me up to try to have me change companies. I’m happy where I’m at, thank you very much!

Atlas Medstaff as a company is the only one I’ve worked for that seems to care about their nurses. For Christmas, Nurses Week, I am still surprised that Eric & Atlas sent something nice. And the flowers I got when my mom died on my birthday were gorgeous, something to make me smile during a very rough time.

Eric and Atlas Medstaff are a ‘good fit’ and for whom I feel comfortable working.

I was new to travel nursing and this agency has been great. I trust Eric to place me in assignments suited to my experience and he has. I am very happy I choose this agency. Everyone I have dealt with including Steve the owner has been easy to work with and seem o really have my best interest at heart.

I have worked for multiple agencies and Atlas Medstaff is by far my favorite! Eric is an amazing recruiter and a great person to work for. They make you feel more like family than an actual employee and are willing to FIND you contracts instead of just fill positions they have open. I have had a great experience working with them and have recommended Atlas Medstaff to many of my nursing friends!

Hannah Bryant is the best recruiter ever. No contest. She has my back and takes care of everything. All I do is show up, work, and get paid.

Feels like working with family. They get me where I want with a great pay package. They’ve sent me beautiful day one gift baskets! Love working with them.
