Ayala’s trajectory from his early days with Los Relámpagos del Norte to the zenith of his career with Ramón Ayala y sus Bravos del Norte helped reshape the norteño music landscape, propelled by his riveting and virtuosic accordion skills. He’s widely recognized for crafting timeless norteño classics such as “Mi Piquito De Oro,” “Que Casualidad” and “Tragos Amargos.”

Throughout his career, Ayala has influenced great artists such as Grupo Frontera and Intocable. “The first song I fell in love with the accordion was ‘Mi Piquito de Oro’ by Ramón Ayala. I was sold,” Ricky Muñoz, Intocable’s leader and accordionist, told Billboard Español earlier in February.

His albums Antología De Un Rey (2004) and Arriba El Norte (1991) have reached No. 1 on the Regional Mexican Albums chart, and 12 of his songs have entered the Hot Latin Songs tally, including “Del Otro Lado Del Portón” at No. 12 and “Quémame Los Ojos” at No. 19.

As the four-time Grammy-winning artist prepares for his swan song, his partnership with Fundación Hermes Music through the Guitarras Por La Paz (Guitars for Peace) campaign will continue to underline the Monterrey artist’s dedication to harnessing music as a vehicle for peace. This initiative sees the distribution of guitars and educational materials to various charitable organizations, ensuring his impact extends beyond the stage.

Música Mexicana Icon Ramón Ayala Announces Farewell U.S. Tour

Ramón Ayala is leaving the stage soon. On Feb. 27, the King of the Accordion announced his upcoming The Beginning of An End (El Principio De Un Final) Tour that will wrap up 60 years of musical trajectory. The tour will officially begin at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, CA, and finish back in the City of Angels at the Intuit Dome on Nov. 30.

Ayala, known for playing the accordion, will tour throughout the nation for the greater part of 2024. For one last time, fans will be able to sing along to his accordion on iconic songs like “Mi Piquito De Oro,” “Que Casualidad,” and his signature song “Tragos Amargos.” After his appearance at the Bésame Mucho festival in Austin, TX , on Mar. 2, the extensive tour will hit venues and state fairs in major cities like Atlanta, GA; El Paso, TX; Chicago, IL; and Las Vegas, NV. The tour will wrap up at the new Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, CA.

At the same time, the famous musician is gearing up to release a new single called “El Retén,” out on Mar. 8. Moreover, he’s partnering with the Fundación Hermes Music (Hermes Music Foundation) to donate guitars to different charities. The new campaign, “Guitarras por la paz [Guitars for Peace],” will donate guitars to institutions like churches, non-profit schools, and detention facilities. It will also donate books to show children how to play the guitar.

Ayala is one of música mexicana’s most popular accordionists and singers. He was part of the iconic duo Los Relámpagos del Norte with vocalist Cornelio Reyna, which helped define the modern norteño sound with songs like “Tengo Miedo” and “Devolución.” Later, he formed his band Ramón Ayala y sus Bravos del Norte, where he released popular songs like “Un Rinconcito En El Cielo” and “Chaparra De Mi Amor.”

Ramón Ayala (born December 8, 1945) is a Mexican Norteño and Conjunto accordionist, composer, singer and songwriter hailing from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

Born to his music playing father Ramón Cobarrubias, Ayala picked up an accordion at the unusually young age of six and soon got rather proficient at it. Inspired to support his modest family’s situation the accordionist began playing in host of different public places and honed his skills and musical interests.

The musician’s first excursions into a band was the Los Jilgueros de Marin followed a little time after by the group Los Pavorreales. After moving to Reynosa, Mexico in the early 1960s, still only a teenager, Ayala pioneered modern conjunto music collaborating with the likes of Cornelio Reyna, the late bajo sexto guitarist, who together formed Los Relámpagos del Norte. It didn’t take long for the pair to start making waves within contemporary latin music, the duo released their first single “Yo No Llores” in 1963 ahead of their eponymously-titled debut album.

Until 1971, Los Relámpagos del Norte revolutionised the entire appeal of norteño music, which at the time was seen as wholly cantina music. The pair livened the sound up, modernised the lyrics and together recorded a total of 20 albums together, with a host of classics under their belt.

In 1971 Cornelio Reyna left the group and Ayala formed the Ramón Ayala y Sus Bravos del Norte with vocalist Antonio Sauceda. However Sauceda soon left and made way for Eliseo Robles, who alongside Ayala proved to be legends of the norteño genre, artistically surpassing all of their peers and becoming the standard for the genre. During this time Ayala experienced his greatest commercial and critical success in both Mexico and the U.S. with hits including “Un Rinconcito En El Cielo” and Chappa de Mi Amor”.

By the mid-1980s Robles left the group struggling to handle the pressure and Antonio Coronado took tenure as the band’s singer. After eight albums with Ramón Ayala y Sus Bravos del Norte Coronado also left the group making way for Mario Marichalar. The new singer took the band in a new, younger and livelier direction and appealed to a more youthful audience.

Ayala is revered for his founding of modern norteño music, has released of over 105 albums and is one of the highest-selling Latin artists of all time. He has been nominated for multiple Grammy awards, has won an American Grammy for his album “En Vivo… El Hombre Y Su Música” in 2001, and two Latin Grammy awards for the albums “Quémame Los Ojos” and “El Numero Cien”.

There is no way that Ramon Ayala has time to sleep at night. Somehow the king of the accordion and master of Norteño music has managed to put out 105 albums over the past fifty years. For most artists that is a figure that would be unattainable, but for the multi Grammy Award winning Ramon, making and recording music comes naturally to him and is what he does best. Ramon Ayala’s music is so well known both in and out of his native Mexico, that he has pretty much single-handedly shaped the entire genre of Norteño music; any artist looking for a piece of the action will certainly have their work compared to Ramon’s.

One of the best things about a Ramon Ayala concert is that his work is so well known that a gig becomes one giant sing-along event. Every single person at a gig will know every single word to Ramon’s songs. Songs such as ‘Mi Piquito de Oro’, ‘El Disgusto’ and ‘Mi Tesoro’ always seem to bring audience members back to the moment in which they first heard the song. For many, Ramon Ayala’s music has been the soundtrack to their lives. Births, deaths, marriages, break ups, and graduations have all had a Ramon Ayala song associated with them. There is a reason this man is a national treasure in Mexico; his prolific work spans the range of human emotion and is almost impossible not to connect with.

With a career spanning almost half a century, accordion player and conjontu musician Ramon Benitez Ayala has been on the stage for longer than most. As he is now in his late 80s, music is clearly keeping him young as he continues to take to stage with his accompanying musicians. The music is upbeat and fun and perhaps this is why Ramon is not particularly acting or feeling his age.

The Texan musician has released a huge amount of music over the years and the shows are now a culmination of his best work and his impressive accordion playing abilities. The whole band comes together in great harmony with latino tones around the musician and turns the show into a true musical experience. The crowds go wild when Ramon speaks to them as they must realise that he won't be doing this for very much longer so they must make these shows truly unforgettable for the performer.

It was a great concert. The house of blues staff was amazing. I will consider this venue again. I am a big fan of Ramon Ayala and would love to see him there again.

After having attended several tours in Champagne cellars after the one at Ayala for the first time I have a complete picture about how and why in the Champagne this divine drink is made. It’s not the most impressive and not the funniest tour but it’s far the best learning easily about the specific requirements of the cellar, the details about the vines and what makes Ayala Champagne special. If I would only attend one tour in Champagne cellars it would be this one.

We visited a few champagne houses but Ayala really was our best! The personal guide, interesting story and pretty tour & view was amazing. Within the prestige visit we could tast all of their champagnes and it was delicious. I would recommend this 100% and definitely come back.
