Supercar factory tour

Francesco organises excellent personalised tours of the supercar factories in Italy eg Ferrari, Lamborghini etc. My son and I undertook a full day tour and had a great time and the total experience was unforgettable. We look forward to doing this again in the near future and visiting some other factories such as Pagani, Ducati etc.

Since I am obsessed with exotic cars, I knew that I had to book this tour while staying in Bologna for several weeks. Well, the tour was all I'd hope for and much more. The website was easy to navigate, and the owner and tour director, Francesco Bini was prompt in e-mail responses and booking. There were many different tour packages available, depending on personal preferences, and had something for everyone. I had included the Lamborghini factory tour, which had just resumed April 1 (Had been closed due to the installation of a new assembly line for the new and awesome Aventador). I also liked that I could pay via PayPal. I was picked up promptly at the planned time and location, and as the day unfolded it was like a dream come true. We visited the Ducati store and then factory tour first. It was led by an excellent tour guide, familiar with Ducati bikes and production. From there we went directly to Maranello, where we saw the Ferrari factory (outside only), and had also booked a test drive of a Ferrari California S. If you are a car lover, especially exotic Italian sports cars, you must not miss this experience! Getting registered and into a car seemed effortless. My test drive was incredible, and a memory that will last a lifetime! From there we went and had lunch in Maranello, included in the tour price. There were choices available for people with gluten intolerance, if that is an issue for you. We then returned to the Ferrari Museum, and Mr. Bini provided an expert tour of the museum. Onward to the Lamborghini factory tour, which was equally amazing. Again, the tour guide was friendly, approachable, and knew all there was to know about Lamborghini, its history and car production. It was a priceless experience to be able to see a car made by hand, from the ground up. All in all, I believe the tour is worth every penny. It was obvious to me that Mr. Bini had spend a lot of time and effort to build great relationships with the various factories and personnel, and this was reflected in a tour that seemed seamless and effortless. One note though: If you are a person with special dietary needs or food issues, be sure to take along some snacks and/or eat breakfast before the tour. (I do this routinely, anyway). Our lunch was around 1pm or so. Great tour, and not to missed!

My wife and I have been to Europe on 8 occasions, 2 of which have been in Italy. This year, we brought our 12 year old with us to Italy for his first trip to Europe. Since we were based in Florence with plenty of day trips planned, I wanted to make things special for him (and me!) by visiting at least one Italian automobile factory. While researching tours, I came across the Motorstars website. Not only would we be able to visit the Ferrari factory town of Marinello, with Motorstars we would also have the option of visiting Lamborghini, Pagani, Ducati, and others. All we had to do was take a 30 minute train ride from Florence to Bologna, and the rest would be handled for us. Motorstars did not disappoint us in the least, and our time in the "Motor Valley" of Italy (think "Silicon Valley" of the US) was special indeed. Francesco Bini, proprietor of Motorstars, is an expert in your field, is a very good tour guide, and his passion is quite evident. Francesco went above and beyond the call of duty to make us feel special and we received no less than first class service and treatment the entire day. The price we paid when compared to the value we received was well worth every cent! We departed Florence at 8:30AM for Bologna – a 30 minute train ride – where we were met by Francesco promptly at 9:30AM. We elected to partake in Tour No. 23 which includes a visit to the Ferrari Museum, an opportunity to have a Ferrari Experience (i.e. test drive) at an additional charge, visit the Pagani factory and assembly line, visit the Lamborghini museum, and (if you are lucky) visit the Lamborghini assembly lines. Transfers to the various auto manufacturers is by way of a luxury Mercedes van, and we were lucky enough to have the entire bus (and Francesco) to ourselves! The van had individual LCD screens, and Francesco played documentary segments that gave a preview of each destination in which we were headed (Ferrari, Pagani, Lamborghini, etc.). The first stop was Maranello, home of Ferrari, an approximately 45 minute drive from the Bologna train station. We were unable to tour the assembly line because that tour is reserved for Ferrari owners. However, we were able to test drive (for 20 minutes) a Ferrari California (4 seater so my son could ride along). Test driving a Ferrari will give one the adrenaline equivalent to 10 shots of espresso. After this experience, we were both good to go for the rest of our entire trip in Italy! We then had a private tour of the Ferrari Museum, with our guide being Francesco. The museum was incredible, with us being able to see the first Ferrari ever made along with the newest models and many in between. After touring the Ferrari museum, we headed to lunch at a café in central Maranello where we both had pizza and soft drinks. After lunch, which was included in the tour price, we departed Maranello for the Pagani factory in the small town of San Cesario sul Panaro. There were 3 other visitors in attendance for the tour, and the tour was led by none other than Francesco. Pagani is a specialized sports car where cars are made by special order only. Each car costs €1 million and up. The car is 100% built by hand. 120 cars have been produced over the life of the company, and approximately 17-19 cars are produced each year. 4 were in the process of being assembled during our tour. After Pagani, we headed to the Lamborghini museum in Sant'Agata Bolognese. We had hoped to tour the Lamborghini assembly line, but we were informed that public tours were not going to be available until April 1. Our disappointment was quickly turned to full surprise and excitement when Francesco introduced us to Cristina (the curator of the Lamborghini museum, to whom we send our many thanks) who promptly had us deposit all cameras, cell phones, and backpacks in a locker for a private tour of the Lamborghini assembly line! There was a French couple who arrived at the museum at the same time, and they were lucky enough to be allowed to attend the tour with us. The assembly line was somewhat as you might imagine – partially assembled cars being moved ahead each hour to a different station where a particular component, the engine, or piece of the body was installed – 100% by human hand. There were 2 lines, 1 for the Gallardo model and 1 for the Aventador model (which is the newest model released to the public only 10 days ago). These are the only 2 models available for purchase new from Lamborghini. The Aventador assembly line had the latest in technology, but I will not bore you with line sequencing and organizational capabilities that are informative only to logistics dorks like me. Currently, only 3 cars per week are completed. After April 1, full ramp up to 3 cars per day is expected. Over 2 years of inventory (made and to-be made) have already been sold – at a price tag beginning at €250k. Each station at the Aventador line was manned by an engineer with 2-3 others (apprentices) observing for training for the full ramp up on April 1. We saw the racks of leather hides that would be used to cover seats and other appointments in the car, and we saw the seamstress creating patterned covers etc, and we saw the actual covering of the various appointments. On the Gallardo line, the only other assembly line in the factory, many more finished cars are produced daily, and we saw several roll out off the assembly line for final testing and then delivery to their lucky owner. Francesco dropped us off at the Bologna train station at 6:30PM just in time to catch our return train home to Florence. Needless to say, this day was a true treat for both of us -- a dream for any 12 year old, and an experience to make any adult feel like a child again!

motorstars italian car factory tours

I recommend the tours Motorstars offers to everyone who is passionate about cars. And even if cars are not really your thing you will have a great experience. I was on a trip with my guests from Iran and accompanied them one of the tours Motorstars offers: visiting Ferrari museum ,Ferrari driving experience, Pagani factory and showroom and Lamborghini museum. Francesco Bini of Motorstars did so much more than he had to, to give a us wonderful day; In fact my guests stated that their tour with motorstars was the best day of their whole trip! Next time I organize a trip to Bologna I will certainly recommend Motorstars tours to my guests.

I've always wanted to visit the Land of Supercars and Francesco's Motorstars helped fulfill this for me. It was a long but glorious day. Together with an American couple, we were met at Bologna Centrale by Francesco in his very techy Mercedes Vito. He had various documentaries, all relevant to our tour, loaded onto the DVD player for our selection. Our first stop being the Museo Ferrucio Lamborghini, naturally we opted for the Lamborghini piece. The visit was truly amazing. Not only did we get to see everything that was ever produced by Ferrucio Lamborghini, our guide was the museum director, Fabio Lamborghini, the nephew of Ferrucio Lamborghini! Our next stop was the Museo Lamborghini at Sant'Agata Bolognese. If we were impressed by what we saw earlier, we were now bowled over. I saw and touched the Reventon! We had a very informative and affable guide in Cristina, who has worked at the museum for more than 12 years. She knew Ferrucio Lamborghini and shared a few anecdotes of him with us. It was a pity the factory was off limits due to ongoing refurbishment works or we could have visited the assembly line as well. After lunch, which was included in the tour, we were off to Pagani. Very opportune for us as the Zonda Uno was on display awaiting shipment to one very lucky person somewhere in the Middle East. Francesco was our guide and even took us inside the Pagani factory! It was truly a lifetime experience. We came within touching distance of the blocked and cordoned off C9 - the new Pagani model due to be launched in early 2011. The other unexpected highlight was seeing Mr. Horatio Pagani. He was downstairs to meet a (potential?) buyer so I didn't think it appropriate to ask him for an autograph! And then came the highlight of my entire trip - I got to drive a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560! Being a lifelong Lamborghini fan, that was truly a most remarkable and unforgettable experience. Our final stop was the Galleria Ferrari where once again, Francesco was our guide. Having worked at Ferrari as well as Pagani, he was very knowledgeable but most of all passionate about his work and those cars. I recommend his tour highly and even if you're not a car enthusiast, you will be before the day is over. Oh, and solo travellers need not fret because Francesco is also a great photographer!

I tried to organise a tour with Francesco through his website but after weeks of back and forth emailing, he "refused" to accept my reservation. I phoned Francesco and found him to be extremely rude and he told me to go elsewhere. I ended up booking the tours with the factories direct and rented a car. The whole trip ended up being a lot cheaper than what he charges for his tour and I had the fun of going at my own pace. Would not recommend others to hand over hundreds of Euro's to someone so unprofessional.

  • I've read that Francesco has worked into Italian Supercar Factories. Will I spend the day with him or I'll be simply driven around factories and museums by a taxi driver?
Yes, you will spend the whole day with Francesco, founder and owner of MotorStars. Francesco whose experience is as diverse as F3 mechanic, F1 model maker and manufacturer of hi-tech carbon-fiber components (M. Schumacher F1 steering wheel) and as a researcher and developer for Lamborghini can offer you unique insight not only into the history but in the technical background as well. He'll make you feel like you're part of the team and ensure that you have an amazing and unforgettable experience! A real point-of-difference from whole other companies that now sell similar tours.
  • During this tour am I driven around with a licensed vehicle? is it included in the price?
Yes, in order to comply with all the necessary regulations and to offer you a secure, safe service, MotorStars have a special taxi driver's license called "N.C.C." (Italian for Limousine with personal driver). Price of this licensed luxury Mercedes carrier is always included in our total charge.
  • Can I/We have a private tour?
MotorStars offer full-day tours for small groups of people, max 8 people, this is the max number of people our vehicle can take. This intimate size ensures personal attention from our host to your needs and a more enjoyable experience. Please note, due to factories management restrictions out of our control, private tours inside the factories are not allowed.
  • Can I book my tour over the phone?
Please note that in order to avoid confusion we prefer to process bookings by email and do not accept credit card information over the phone. A mobile phone number will be provided at confirmation time for urgent matters.

  • Is there room in van for our luggage or where could we store our suitcases?
Please note - we strongly suggest not to bring any luggage with you during the tour because not all factories and museums have secure parking. Please bring hand-luggage only onto the MotorStars van (max dim. 60cm x 40cm x 20cm) It is important that you leave your luggage at the hotel or at the luggage store facilities at "Bologna Centrale" train station (open every day from 7am-9pm, n°1 suitcase per n°1 day costs ca. € 7)
  • Do you run tours on Saturday or Sunday?
Please, note that most of the factories are not open during the week-end, for this reason MotorStars tours are available only from Monday to Friday.

Please, note that MotorStars arrange reservations for the respective factories and museums only for those people who have chosen and booked one of its tour packages.

The best place we suggest you to stay to join the tour is Bologna. We have a list of good hotels in strategic positions from which we could pick-up you easily. • How long does it take for each stage of the tour?
Please note that the time we spend for each stage of the tour depends on the availability of every activity in the programme. In order to optimize the time at our disposal, we have arranged the best schedules and transfers.

Please, note there is not a deadline for booking, but if you are interested in one of the tour, we strongly suggest you to book at your earliest convenience (due to limited number of tours available per day and the limited number of participants admitted). Before you book your flight and hotel, please, make certain that you have arranged your booking in time and have received our written confirmation of the availability of the tour.
  • Is there an age limit for these tours?

Please note walking through Ferrari factory assembly lines is only for owners, journalists and sponsors; Ferrari directly manage these tours.

MotorStars tour-packages are 100% guaranteed to depart, we do NOT cancel a confirmed booking even if the minimum number of participants hasn't been reached.

Get in [ edit ]

By boat [ edit ].

During summer there are boats from Kazan , Samara and other destinations on the Volga River.

By train [ edit ]

The train takes you here from Moscow (from Kazanskaya train station) in approximately 16 hours or from Volgograd in about 20 hours. Ulyanovsk Main Station is located 6 km from the city center.

Get around [ edit ]

Ulyanovsk has an extensive public transportation network that includes buses, trolleys, and trams. It is very affordable, but congested and may be quite confusing. You won't find any route maps or schedules, neither at bus stops nor in buses. Fee collectors usually don't speak English. Express buses and semi-private van routes are more comfortable and more expensive. Taxis are not expensive, and that's your best bet if you want to get somewhere (relatively) quickly, in (relative) comfort (almost all cars are old Russian ladas or over 10 year old non-Russian cars), and without much hassle. They are also most likely to have English speaking drivers (one in 1000) and superloud Russian pop music.

Getting between the banks of the Volga is a problem. There is a two lane bridge connecting the banks and it's nearly always congested, so if you're unlucky, it can take a couple of hours. Most locals avoid going over the bridge if they can. A four-lane bridge was planned to relieve these problems.

As the home town of Lenin, it's worth visiting the Lenin Memorial Centre and Gardens and museums based in his former houses. There is also a museum dedicated to the poet 'Goncharov' and the war memorial at the end of the main street 'Ulitsa Goncharova' offers breathtaking views over the Volga.

Do [ edit ]

In winter, try cross-country skiing along the Sviaga river, in summer take a boat ride over the reservoir.

Buy [ edit ]

The city's main shopping centre 'Tsum' is basic to say the least but does offer some basic shopping.
