7 Scariest Places To Visit In Baguio City

baguio tourist spot horror

Last Updated on November 8, 2021 by Ran

Some of you may know that I majored in tourism when I was in college. However, only a few people know about one of my main interests in this area: dark tourism .

Dark tourism is the study of places dealing with death, tragedy, and horror. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been interested in such places. So interested, in fact, that I proposed the topic to my college BFF Kat for our undergraduate thesis. After all, I’ve always been a fan of horror and macabre, so it’s only natural that I would go down that route, isn’t it?

Today, I’m going to share the 7 scariest places to visit in Baguio City based on our research, plus the horror stories that go along with them.

I have to warn you though, these places are not for the faint of heart. Keep that in mind if you’re planning to go for a spooktacular adventure to discover Baguio City’s most haunted sites!

Table of Contents

1. Teacher’s Camp

The Horror Story

A group of friends decides to stay in one of the dormitories-turned-transient-homes inside Teacher’s Camp.

Come midnight, one girl wakes up to the sound of heavy footsteps and knocks outside their door. She gets up, still sleepy, and opens the door, thinking it’s just one of her friends who might have used the restroom. Nobody comes in so she decides to leave the door open before coming back to bed.

Suddenly, she hears the sound again, this time much worse: the sound of someone dragging their chain-bounded feet on the floor, slowly getting closer and closer to their open room.

Behind Teacher’s Camp

From the outside, Baguio’s Teacher’s Camp is seen as a premier event and training center for professionals, especially teachers, from all around the Philippines. Built in 1908 to serve this purpose for American ‘Thomasite’ teachers, the camp has already seen countless stories, both of success and horror alike.

During World War II, Japanese soldiers used the site to hold hundreds of people captive. Numerous people are said to have been beheaded and killed at the camp, making it no surprise to hear all the horror stories culminating in the place.

Top 7 scariest places to visit in Baguio City, you say? There’s no way Teacher’s Camp can’t make it into the list.

My Personal Experience

In all our travels together, this is probably one thing that Kat and I will always remember. We stayed at the Teacher’s Camp for 3 nights as part of our study and we personally experienced something scary during our stay on the 3rd floor of a transient home.

We were unpacking our bags on the first day when Kat told me she needed to pee, so I accompanied her to the common restroom.

While I was waiting for her, we heard some people talking in Ilokano (Baguio’s local language) outside. Nothing too strange, right? It actually comforted us a bit, knowing that there were other people in the transient home aside from the lone caretaker downstairs.

Later on, as we were about to leave to conduct our research, we asked the caretaker how many people were staying on the same floor as us. He said that there was another family staying for the night.

We were about to breathe a sigh of relief when he added, “ Mamayang gabi sila dadating. Solo po muna kayo ngayon. (They’ll be arriving later tonight. You’re the only ones there right now.)”

Chills, man.

Teacher’s Camp is open 24/7, and you can stay in transient homes for as low as 300PHP (6USD) a night.

2. Loakan Road

baguio tourist spot horror

A taxi driver is on his way back home when he /gets flagged by a lady dressed in all white by the side of the road near Loakan. He picks her up and asks her where she’s going, but she says nothing.

After a minute or two, he looks in the rearview mirror to ask her again, but to his surprise, there’s nobody sitting in his backseat. It’s as if the lady just vanished into thin air.

Behind Loakan Road

Exit Teacher’s Camp and you’ll come face to face with this infamous haunted road in Baguio City. The road itself is already eerie in the dark, thanks to the rows of pine trees by its side, poorly-lit spots, and a naturally foggy atmosphere. What makes it even scarier though, is the story of the ghost that roams the site, looking for poor folks to spook at night.

According to local urban legends, the White Lady of Loakan, as she’s called, was a rape and murder victim whose body was dumped in the area. To this day, she hitchhikes random taxis and cars, still hoping to find her killer.

Many locals would advise avoiding this road completely in the dark as there have already been multiple accidents. allegedly due to frightened or surprised drivers. This and other ghostly encounters make Loakan Road one of the scariest places to visit in Baguio City.

3. Japanese Tunnel

baguio tourist spot horror

A couple is busy teasing each other while walking inside the tunnels for fun.

Out of nowhere, somebody taps the man on the back. He turns around, but there’s nobody there so the two get back to their antics.

This time, the man feels another tap, harder than before. Now annoyed, the man tells his girlfriend that someone’s playing a prank on them. They decide to check the inner tunnels for the prankster.

Inside one, they see a shadowy figure. The woman lights up the tunnel with her phone, only to find a man dressed in an old soldier’s uniform, with a bayonet still stuck in his bleeding chest.

Behind Japanese Tunnel

Back in the 1940s, the Japanese were said to have built numerous tunnel complexes underneath Baguio City in order to serve as emergency escape routes from their enemies.

Today, the opening to the tunnels can be found inside Baguio Botanical Garden. Rumor has it that this is also where Yamashita stored his famed Yamashita Treasure, but of course, there’s no scientific evidence that this treasure even exists in the first place.

Nevertheless, all these stories make it one of the scariest places in Baguio City, that’s for sure.

Japanese Tunnel is located inside Baguio Botanical Garden. It’s free to enter and open every day from 6AM to 6PM.

4. Secret Cemetery

baguio tourist spot horror

A young family is resting on the patio of their lodge at Camp John Hay, watching the sun set over the trees after a fun but tiring day.

Later on, while the wife brings the kids inside, the husband hears something strange in the distance. He realizes it’s the sound of native drums, seemingly coming from nearby.

Assuming it’s just from a parade of sorts, he thinks nothing of it, continuing to look out the patio. As the sound of humming drums comes closer and closer, he decides to check it out just to see what kind of event is underway.

To his surprise, it disappears the moment he steps out, the same time as strangely-shaped shadows on the road run in different directions.

Behind Secret Cemetery

Many say that the reason why Camp John Hay is one of the scariest places to visit in Baguio City is because of its rich history. According to some urban legends, one area inside Camp John Hay actually used to be a burial site for native tribes living in the area.

When the Americans came and transformed Baguio into the city it has now become, the natives were forcefully driven out of their native lands. The Americans then decided to turn the area into a military base, building over the burial sites completely.

It sounds like the plot of a new Poltergeist movie, sure, but there are chances that it could be true. The local government is notorious for continuously forgetting to maintain old sites, even those with historical importance.

In 2014 , a US Navy veteran expressed his disappointment at the CJH admin allowing cows to ‘desecrate’ the WWII cemeteries inside the area, where almost 500 war vets are buried. “If only veterans buried there could talk.”

Secret Cemetery is a hidden site inside Camp John Hay. I’m not sure about the exact location, but it’s near some lodge accommodations. Have fun looking for it inside!

5. Murder Woods

liveloveran scariest places baguio city murder woods

Three friends are out drinking and experiencing the nightlife at the famed Camp John Hay.

It’s a wild night. One of the friends, too drunk to know what he’s doing, stumbles outside and finds himself face to face with the entrance of a densely packed forest nearby.

Deciding it’s a good time to pee, he enters the forest, just in time for his friends to see him go inside. The two friends call out to him, to no avail. They also try calling his mobile phone but they can’t even reach him.

Eventually, they had to call authorities to do a search, but their friend was never found. Authorities ruled it off as a runaway case, but to this day, the two remaining friends claim that they really did see their friend enter the forest, never to be seen again.

Behind Murder Woods

To be honest, I can’t find any sources regarding Camp John Hay’s Murder Woods, except for Pine City Fright Tours. According to Mr. Fright, the place got its moniker way back during the Japanese and American occupation in the Philippines.

Apparently, soldiers would take their prisoners here and kill them on the spot. The site is also a dumping ground for bodies, which makes its name quite suitable.

Other than that, there isn’t much documentation regarding this place. This seems to be one of those things that will forever remain to be an urban legend, or perhaps a horror story to be passed down from one generation to another.

Certainly one for the books – if you’re talking about the scariest places to visit in Baguio City, that is.

Murder Woods is also inside Camp John Hay!

6. Laperal ‘White’ House

liveloveran scariest places baguio city laperal house

A young woman and her friend were passing by the famed Laperal White House. As they pass by, she begins to retell an urban legend about the place.

Scared, the other girl tells her to stop. She laughs, saying it’s all just a joke and that the stories aren’t true.

They both look again at the house, only to see the ashen face of a young girl looking down at them from the empty attic window.

Behind Laperal House

Once you find out the backstory behind the house, you’ll see why this makes the list of the scariest places to visit in Baguio City.

There are many stories as to how the Laperal House, or the White House as it’s commonly called, became so haunted. Some say it was due to the Japanese occupation during World War II.

Others say it was already haunted right from the beginning. The house was formerly owned by Don and Dona Roberto and Victorina Laperal. It was built back in the early 1900s and served as the family’s summer home. They had six children and a nanny who took care of the younger kids. One by one, everyone in the family started dying. From the nanny who apparently killed herself up in the attic to the father who died on the steps of the house, nobody was spared.

Over the years, the house has turned into a popular tourist site in Baguio. Currently, it is closed to the public, but many visitors still report seeing strange shadows or hearing noises. It is said that sometimes, the little girl can still be seen waiting at the entrance, to this day.

My most recent visit to Baguio was actually just earlier this year when I went with K, my dad, and a couple of other family members for a two-night getaway from the city life.

I was determined to show my cousins all the scary sites on this list, but since my dad was the one driving (and believe me, he’s the biggest scaredy-cat of them all) he wouldn’t allow us to even step foot in any of them. He did relent when it came to the Laperal ‘White’ House, however, since it was just along the way.

We convinced him to slow down just as we were nearing the White House. I began retelling the story to my creeped-out cousins as we all looked out at the house, taking the entire view in.

Later on, when we got home, we began discussing the house again. This is where the spooky part begins. We all remembered seeing a vehicle parked in front of the house, but we couldn’t agree as to what it was.

I saw an old red coupe, Sza says she saw a blue Beetle, while Tine saw the weirdest one of the three: a brightly-colored Filipino-style jeepney with the word “survivor” written at the side.

After a few minutes of stubbornly insisting on what we each saw, we finally looked at the few snaps that we took when we passed by the house. Guess what?

There was no car parked there at all.

White House used to be open to tourists, but now you can only look at it from the outside.

7. Old Diplomat Hotel

liveloveran scariest places baguio city old diplomat hotel

A couple is hanging out at the Old Diplomat Hotel. They decide to play hide and seek, so the girl hides, while the guy counts to ten.

Finally, he begins his search. He hears her giggling in one of the rooms. Smirking to himself, he follows the sound, but upon arriving at the room, he realizes there’s no one there.

His girlfriend then appears, surprising him. Feeling a bit creeped out, the guy tells his girlfriend that they should probably go.

She laughs and then suddenly stops, a horrified look on her face. They run out screaming, as the headless priest dressed in all black stands still inside the room.

Behind Diplomat Hotel

No list of Baguio City’s most haunted sites would be complete without the Old Diplomat Hotel.

The hotel was originally built in 1911 as a retreat house for Dominican priests. During the Second World War, the building served as a refugee camp until it was hit by the Japanese. Reconstruction began in 1947 and went on for a year, finishing in 1948.

In the ’70s, Diplomat Hotels, Inc. acquired the hotel and opened it as a 33-bedroom hotel. It was managed by Tony Agpaoa, a part-time faith healer who falsely claimed to cure people of all kinds of ailments using his hands alone. This continued until 1982 when Agpaoa died from a heart attack at the age of 42.

As the years went by, Diplomat Hotel fell into ruins, giving it its current dilapidated look. In 2005, the city of Baguio took over the property, but by then, urban legends were already permeating the hotel’s walls. With stories talking about headless priests and disembodied cries, how Diplomat Hotel not be one of the scariest places to visit in Baguio City?

Old Diplomat Hotel is free of charge and it’s open from 8AM-5PM daily. If you want to stay after 5PM, you’ll have to arrange a private tour, just like we did.

Pine City Fright Tours

If you’d like to visit all of Baguio’s scariest places at once, I recommend that you check out Pine City Fright Tours . Some of the photos I used in this post were actually taken during my Fright Tour with Kat early last year. We paid around 900 PHP (18 USD) per person for a 4-hour tour.

Don’t let his looks fool ya, the owner and tour guide, Mr. Anton Villa-Abrille, is a very nice and approachable man. At first, Kat and I were a bit hesitant to interview him for our thesis because he wore all-black and looked kinda menacing, literally looking like a real-life Felonius Gru from Despicable Me. But, as it turns out, he’s actually really nice–just like Gru! He’s well-traveled and knows a lot about sites like the ones listed above. He’s also very knowledgeable about Baguio City in general and will tell you everything you need to know, and more.

Just don’t call them dark tourism sites as he doesn’t really agree with the labels! 🙂 For more details, check out Pine City Fright Tours’ official Facebook page .

So, what do you think? Do you like dark tourism sites? Have you ever gone to any of the scariest places to visit in Baguio City? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below!

Me multo talaga sa teacher’s camp kasi me friends ako nagstay dun tapos nung gabi me narinig sila na mga batang tumatakbo pero pagtingin nila wala man. Haunted na talaga.

Looking for a place to visit today and found myself browsing your article (kinilabutan ako)😂😂😂 I’m not a fan of horror pero parang gusto kong puntahan mga to😁.

Tara @Crystal manghuli ng multo 😀

I used to know that the legend of Diplomat Hotel started in World War II, it says that a priest was beheaded by a Japanese troop in that place, while the nun was actually a nun killer

oh man i got goose bumps by reading about these places. these reminds me of the dunes that i saw in the deserts of Dubai that were also terrifying in the first look.

may experience din kami ng mga ka-work ko dati sa Teachers Camp. May company outing kami that time at Baguio ang napili ng management na puntahan at sa Teachers Camp kami nag stay during our 3days and 2nights excursion.

We are currently staying rn in Teacher’s Camp, lagi naming nadadaanan yung Laperal at Loakan Rd, and yesterday, nasa Camp John Hay kami and ngayon, nagbabalak kami pumunta ng Diplomat Hotel. Wish us luck! emz. Advance Happy New Year everyone!

Laperal White House TikTok Horror Story | May nagparamdam! 😱

The Laperal White House is a dilapidated, American colonial-era white mansion by Leonard Wood. It’s located near the city’s popular drinking spots.

Initially, it was the residence of a wealthy businessman and his family. During the Japanese occupation, it became a military post where soldiers were said to have killed locals, to which the mansion’s eeriness is attributed.

Passers-by often saw a “white lady” standing on the third front porch step. Guards, caretakers, and paranormal investigators have also heard footsteps coming from inside the mansion.

In 2021, makeup artist and YouTuber GOLDIE GEE who’s known for camouflage makeup went viral for her hair-raising experience in front of Laperal House which was caught on camera .  Her ponytailed hair moved despite the wind being calm, and, when she got home, she found out that there were scratches on her shoulder and back.

The Laperal White House is not open to tourists, but you can take photos from the gate at any time of the day.

I stayed at the HAUNTED Teacher's Camp in the Philippines AND THIS HAPPENED....

Video credit: AmysCrypt via YouTube

Teacher’s Camp is an affordable accommodation in Baguio that potentially comes with a free paranormal experience. It’s also in Leonard Wood Road, just a stone’s throw away from Laperal White House.

The place was built during the American colonial period as a training camp for teachers. During World War II, Japanese soldiers used this as a hospital but killings may have also taken place at the site.

A white lady, a headless priest, and a woman soaked in blood are said to haunt Teacher’s Camp. Previous guests have also heard noises at night even when they’re the only ones in their building, including the sound of something dragging its chain-bound feet across the floor.

You can check out its premises for free during the day or you can also book a stay in one of its rooms or guesthouses to get the whole spooky experience.

Baguio haunted places - Casa Vallejo

Casa Vallejo is another haunted accommodation in Baguio that you can still book for your vacation.

Built in 1909 and among the oldest buildings in the city, it has gone through many historical events . It was a detention center for German Prisoners of War in 1917 and a British and Indian refugee center in 1940. The building also survived carpet bombing during World War II.

Most guests who experience the paranormal in Casa Vallejo only hear crying at night. However, you might bump into 3 otherworldly guests that still linger in the hotel’s hallways.

TV Patrol: Former Hyatt Hotel site in Baguio haunted?

Video credit: ABS-CBN News via YouTube

South Drive was the location of the 12-story Hyatt Hotel which collapsed and killed nearly 100 employees during the devastating 1990 Luzon earthquake.

Although the hotel had been reduced to ruins, people have claimed to see ghosts on the property or the street in front of it. One witness even saw a group of ghosts dancing. Some people even smell kalachuchi (plumeria), which is often associated with the dead, in the area.

Since the road is said to be a hotspot for the supernatural, motorists sound their horns before crossing the pedestrian lane in front of the gate of the former hotel site. They do this to pay respects to the deceased and keep restless ghosts away.

In 2020, the construction of a new hotel began in the former Hyatt hotel site, which honestly gives us the spooks.

Address: South Drive, Baguio City

Baguio haunted places - Loakan Road

Another popular haunted road in Baguio is Loakan Road that’s said to be haunted by a white lady.

According to stories, the white lady gets in the passenger or back seat of private cars and taxis, asking to be taken to the city. Local legend says that this is the spirit of a woman who had been a rape-slay victim and whose body was dumped by the side of the road.

Besides the white lady, there was also another supernatural phenomenon in Loakan Road. There used to be a pine tree in the middle of the road that brought illness to those who attempted to cut it.

However, the said tree died in 2001 and was removed the following year.

Address: Loakan Road, Baguio City

Fort Gen. Gregorio Del Pilar, Philippine Military Academy, Baguio, Philippines

You can expect at least 1 resident supernatural being at the 373-hectare Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in Baguio.

Things falling and doors being shut are said to be common occurrences in the academy. However, what sends chills down military trainees’ spines is a faceless ghost cadet who likes to do his rounds at nighttime. Sometimes, cadets also hear a ghost platoon marching at night.

PMA grounds

There are also non-military ghosts that reportedly haunt the academy, including a headless priest.

Paranormal activity seems to be more active in the academy at night, but it’s only open to visitors during the day.

Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho: Rember Gelera’s Diplomat Hotel | Gabi ng Lagim IV

Video credit: GMA Public Affairs via YouTube

The ruins of the old  Diplomat Hotel is arguably the most popular haunted spot in Baguio – and understandably so.

Visitors have repeatedly seen and caught headless priests, nuns, and children in photos and videos taken at the place.

If you’re wondering why there are many headless ghosts in these Baguio haunted locations, it’s because beheading was a common execution method during World War II.

The Diplomat Hotel being one of the most active haunted places in Baguio doesn’t come as a surprise, with many tragic points in its history. It became a refugee camp during World War II but was raided, which led to bloodshed. It was also bombed after Japanese soldiers turned it into their headquarters.

Tourists can visit Diplomat Hotel for free but are not allowed to stay until the evening or overnight for security reasons.

REAL GHOST caught on camera? | HAUNTED TUNNEL underneath Baguio

Following the history of some of the aforementioned places, the Japanese tunnels in Baguio is another place that many believe to be haunted – and with good reason.

According to history, the Japanese used the tunnel system for storing ammunition and weapons. Later on, they were used as an escape route from their enemies. At some point, the Americans discovered the Japanese tunnel, which led to the bombing of all its entrances, leaving tons of Japanese soldiers to die while trapped inside.

It’s believed that their souls still live within the tunnels. Since its reopening, people claim to have seen headless ghosts and heard strange voices and noises coming from the tunnel.

HORRIFYING MURDER WOODS in the PHILIPPINES (MOST HAUNTED PLACES IN BAGUIO) 👻🎃

Video credit: The Hungry Syrian Wanderer via YouTube

Murder Woods is another spot whose history originated from the Japanese occupation. True to its name, Murder Woods used to be a dense forest at Camp John Hay where American, then later on, Japanese soldiers would take their prisoners and execute them on the spot, leaving them there without a proper burial.

There have been stories of people going into the forest and disappearing without a trace. Some have also claimed that ghosts and even mythical creatures such as duwende (dwarf or goblin) were captured on camera there.

This spot is certainly one that you should at least proceed with caution if you ever dare to visit.

Address: Loakan Road, Baguio City

If you’re looking for an alternative vacation experience in the mountain city, consider visiting these diverse Baguio haunted spots.

When you do, remember to stay safe and be respectful to both the living and the dead, so unseen beings stay where they are and don’t follow you home.

Awesome post!!! I love going on ghost tours! I went to one when I was in Australia - probably around 7-9 years old then - and it scared the hell out of me. I can still remember the faint, musty smell that came from one of the "torture" rooms in an underground passage we visited. Your experience makes me want to go to Baguio and sign up for this too! >_< Love your writing style by the way. Really complements the tone and topic.

I've never been on a ghost tour before, this sounds creepy as hell though! I'm tempted now :D

OMG!! Not sure if I would trade a nice and quiet stroll around the city for a spooky and mysterious tour. But well done courageous lady! Loved the post, good to know that in Baguio we can find such unique experiences. Cheers, Nat

I find ghost tours really fascinating! I went on one a few years ago in Sydney and it was both funny and scary - this one looks like an interesting way to explore the city.

I always wanted to see this place! I was too young to do it the late I visited Baguio, hopefully soon!

So creepy! I love exploring abandoned buildings, didn't even know about this one!

Wow! Creepy and fascinating at the same time! I'm easily scared so not sure if I would be brave enough to do this!!

Creepy! I think this would give me nightmares! :)

AHAH I am kind of a baby when it comes to ghosts and horror, so I probably would not have the BEST time here ahahah

A Civil Engineer will be astonished how well this antique haunted house remained strong. A powerful earthquake and a couple of super strong typhoons never brought it down.

I stayed for 5 days at teachers camp. We lock our rooms all the time, when we came back it's unlocked. This happens during our entire stay in the village. Maybe the door is broken or something? Then the toilet cistern keeps on clanging..not flushing mind you... maybe the blasted thing needs fixing as well. Then one night at about 2 to 3 am all hell broke lose! The girls dorm went crazy, the chicks came running out screaming "Ghost! Ghost! someone one was crying in agony in their toilet. No one was there. The Chicks left in a hurry. some of the brave gals stayed and ignored the crying. Seems that the Ghost only cries and didn't hurt anyone. I heard the crying like this before in one of my newly rented retail shop. we where all men about 6 of us. We turned chicken that day. I acted brave and tried to look cool by checking the toilet out. I swear the crying was right besides me but no one was there! No wonder the stupid landlord gave me such cheap rent! Baguio’s Haunted DIPLOMAT HOTEL and Its Dark Past

The former  Diplomat Hotel in Baguio City , Philippines sits on top of the  Dominican Hill . It used to be a rest house and a seminary way back 1911 before it was developed into a school and eventually, a hotel.

Almost every tourist that goes to Baguio makes it a point to visit this place because in spite of the ruins, it remained as one of the most panoramic and picturesque spots in the  City of Pines .

During the World War II, numerous nuns and priests were beheaded here. This is believed to be the reason why headless apparitions can often be seen during the night inside the hotel. The employees and guests also claimed that they would often hear strange sounds coming from the building. Crying coming from kids and babies became a common noise, which can be attributed to the massacre of numerous children done at the fountain.

The bombs that showered this structure so many years ago reduced it to something almost beyond renewal. Fortunately, it was reconstructed in 1947 and in 1973, it was acquired and transformed into a hotel by Diplomat Hotels, Inc. Managing it then is businessman, psychic surgeon and spiritual healer  Tony Agpaoa . Since then, it became the haven of his patients that mostly came from abroad and they stayed here while being healed.

Based on research, there was an incident wherein fire broke out many years ago and several guests who were then staying at the hotel were trapped inside and died. One of the caretakers also affirmed that for unknown reasons, a woman who used to work here as a nurse committed suicide by jumping from the rooftop where the cross is situated.

Since the death of  Tony Agpaoa  in 1987, the hotel ceased its operation and was temporarily closed to the public. It was declared off limits to visitors as well. However, the people who are living nearby were often disturbed by sounds coming from the Dominican Hill at night. They would hear banging of doors and windows, clattering of dishes and voices of screaming people, who seem to be agonizing.

Note: Tony Agpaoa had a heart attack inside the hotel and was rushed to a hospital where he died.

A lot of documentaries have been written about this mysterious structure. Up to these days, many curious people go to Baguio to see the ruins of what used to be the spellbinding grand hotel that boasts of its large rooms, striking details and admirable design.

I, myself, have very special memories of  Baguio’s Diplomat   Hotel  that I can ardently share to those who will join us when we explore this place once more. Considered as one of the  most haunted locations in the Philippines , I would always want to see this wonderful site again and again.

The hotel’s tragic history is rooted in its use as a military base during World War II. In 1945, Japanese soldiers used the hotel as a concentration camp where they tortured and killed prisoners of war. After the war, the hotel was restored and used as a seminary and then a hotel until it was abandoned in the 1980s. Since then, it has become a popular destination for ghost hunters and thrill-seekers, with many claiming to have witnessed paranormal activity on the premises.

Despite its eerie reputation, the Diplomat Hotel remains a popular tourist destination in Baguio City . The local government has initiated rehabilitation efforts, which began in April 2022, with a 15 million Philippine pesos grant from the government. The rehabilitation aims to preserve the hotel’s historical significance and restore it to its former glory.

During World War II, the Japanese forces occupied the Philippines, and they used the Diplomat Hotel as a garrison and headquarters for the Kempeitai, the Japanese military police. The hotel was heavily bombed by the Americans during the war, and it was left in ruins.

Liberation of the Philippines

After the liberation of the Philippines in 1945, the Diplomat Hotel was rebuilt and renovated by the Dominicans. It was then used as a school and a seminary before it was developed into a hotel in 1973.

Diplomat Hotels, Inc and Tony Agpaoa

In 1973, Diplomat Hotels, Inc. acquired the property and developed it into a hotel. The hotel was owned by Antonio Agapito “Tony” Agpaoa, a prominent businessman and politician in the Philippines. The hotel was known for its luxurious accommodations and stunning views of Baguio City.

In 1987, Tony Agpaoa was assassinated, and the hotel was closed down. Since then, the Diplomat Hotel has been abandoned, becoming a popular destination for ghost hunters and thrill-seekers.

Haunted baguio: the diplomat hotel story.

diplomat hotel story

The Diplomat Hotel was originally built as a retreat house that would serve as vacation house for the Dominican order. It was remodeled as a hotel but later ceased operations and became abandoned. At present, the Diplomat Hotel story is referred to as one of the creepiest tales in the City of Pines.

I’m not the bravest person but I love watching horror movies and going to spooky places (in daylight).

Diplomat Hotel

Even if I’m usually one of the first ones to scream in the cinema and have my eyes covered most of the time, I take delight in these scary stories. When it comes to places, I’ve only visited a few haunted sites, one of which is the Diplomat Hotel in Baguio City.

Table of Contents

The Diplomat Hotel Story: Foundation

What is the underlying Diplomat Hotel story? How did it came to be? The Diplomat Hotel was built on top of the Dominican Hill. It was originally called the Dominican Hill and Retreat House because it was constructed to serve as a vacation house for the Dominican Order.

Construction started in 1913 and the Dominican Hill and Retreat House was inaugurated in 1915. They also established a seminary in the place but with very few students, the seminary was later closed.

The Diplomat Hotel Story: Refugee Camp and Japanese Headquarters

When the Second World War broke, the Diplomat Hotel story turned to be a tragic one. People fleeing Japanese forces came to Diplomat Hotel. From a vacation house, it was converted into a refugee camp. Unfortunately, the place was eventually invaded and became headquarters for the Japanese. During these disastrous times, Japanese forces performed brutal acts like rape, torture, and decapitation of nuns, priests, and refugees.

When the Americans defeated the Japanese forces later, Japanese soldiers committed suicide at the Diplomat Hotel.

The Diplomat Hotel Story: Hotel Accommodation

A company called Diplomat Hotels, Inc. acquired the property in the 1970s. The former Dominican Hill and Retreat House was turned into a fancy and beautiful accommodation. It became The Diplomat Hotel. An entrepreneur named Agapito Agpaoa managed the place. However, he suffered a heart attack and later died. After his death, the hotel ceased operations and eventually became abandoned.

The Diplomat Hotel Story: A Haunted Place in Baguio

The deserted Diplomat Hotel deteriorated until it turned into a haunted ruin. The dilapidated building however attracted visitors with its creepy tales that may have rooted from its brutal past. Some people claimed to hear peculiar sounds and even see ghosts like white lady. Other tourists visiting the place took photographs and saw silhouettes and strange images.

The Diplomat Hotel Today

The old Diplomat Hotel Baguio today is being called Heritage Hill and Nature Park. The haunted stories still continue and some people visit the place to see the truth for themselves.

From afar, the Diplomat Hotel displays that alluring yet enigmatic ruin. Its position atop a cold hill adds a more eerie vibe. Whether the ghost stories are true or not, I’m sure walking around in the afternoon especially when there’s not much crowd would give you an uncanny feeling.

Going inside, you can walk on empty corridors. A big fountain strikingly decorates the first floor. You can also climb and reach the next level, then peek on huge, hollow windows.

Diplomat Hotel story

Aside from tourists visiting the place, Diplomat Hotel is also now being used in events.

The building may simply look like an abandoned structure. But to many people who knew the Diplomat Hotel story, they recognize the brutal past beyond the empty walls. Truly haunted or not, the agonizing and disturbing stories definitely linger.

42 BAGUIO TOURIST SPOTS + ITINERARY (2024)

by thepinay solobackpacker | Mar 18, 2024 | Baguio , Philippines , Tourist Spots | 0 comments

Comprehensive travel blog of Baguio tourists spots, includes how to get there and nearby tourist destinations.

The Baguio City that we see today was designed by the Americans, this is why you’ll find some tourist spots here with American names like Camp John Hay and Burnham Park.  After the Spaniards surrendered the Philippines to the United States, they established a hill station in Baguio City because they were beckoned by the  pleasant weather and pine-fringed hills here. But long before the said foreigners arrived here, Baguio City was already inhabited by the Kankana-ey and Ibaloi indigenous peoples of the Cordillera Region, an area known as Kafagway back then.

Fast forward today, Baguio is a melting pot of cultures and where the modern and the traditional thrive and blend beautifully.  Baguio has long been my favorite vacation spot, yes, it’s now pretty crowded especially during holidays and weekends, but it holds a special place in my heart because this is where I traveled during my first solo trip over a decade ago. There’s this good, unexplainable feeling whenever I visit this bustling city.

If you plan on visiting Baguio, for a few days or as a weekend getaway, here’s a list of some of the top tourist spots in Baguio.  If I miss something, feel free to suggest and comment below.

Situated in Pinsao Proper, Tamawan Village is the place to go in Baguio if you don’t have the luxury of time or resources to trek to the remote villages of the Cordillera.  This place was founded by Chanum Foundation Inc. sometime in 1998 as sort of a living museum where visitors can witness and experience a place reminiscent of a traditional Cordillera village.  Here, you’ll find around 7 Ifugao huts (namely, Bangaan Hut, Dukligan Hut, Anaba Hut, Nagor Hut, Batad Hut, and Kinakin Hut)  and 2 Kalinga houses from Bugnay and Luccong, made of indigenous materials such as cogon and pinewood. Tourists can also stay in one of these houses for ₱500 ($10) per person.

Bencab Museum, another must-see tourist attraction in Baguio, is situated in Asin Road with a scenic view of the pine forest, garden, farm, and the surrounding mountains. This contemporary museum houses a collection of his works, and other Filipino contemporary artists. Here, you’ll also find varied indigenous crafts, sculptures, and arts of the Cordilleras. My friend said it’s not as big or jaw-dropping as the Pinto Art Museum, so if you’ve already been there, don’t expect much.

BAGUIO TOURIST SPOTS: BENCAB MUSEUM

Despite being born in Manila, Benedicto Cabrera has long been fascinated by Baguio and the Cordilleras, where he chose to live and nurture his artistic career. As per the official website of Bencab Museum, this place is committed to the promotion of the arts, and the preservation, conservation, and protection of the environment and the heritage of the Cordillera Region.

While you’re in Asin Road, do drop by at the Ifugao Wood Carver’s Village. A 3 km stretch of road along KM 5 oozing with woodcarver shops. Based on anecdotes, the first woodcarvers who settled and made this place known as Ifugao Woodcarver’s Village were the late village chief Reynaldo Lopez-Nauyac and his son Wigan Warren. Both of them are originally from Hapao, Hungduan in Ifugao. So, back in the 70’s and 80’s, woodcarvers from Hapao eventually started transferring to Baguio when they heard that they can earn a living doing woodcarving.  Back then, many tourists from the US Naval base and Japan ordered 6-foot wood carvings of different designs – Buddha, American Indian, warriors, deer hunters, etc. Today, woodcarvers have shifted to furniture making due to the rising condominiums in Baguio.

BURNHAM PARK GUIDED TOUR: BOOK HERE

BAGUIO 7 collage

My friend once told me, if you get lost in Baguio, just go back to Burnham Park and you’ll find your way again. Indeed, she’s right. Baguio has always been special to me, as it is my first solo travel destination over a decade ago.  Whenever I feel like getting lost, I travel to Baguio and stroll along Session Road and go people watching in Burnham Park. It may be crowded and chaotic most of the times, especially during weekends and public holidays, but I don’t know why I still feel at peace when I see its timeless beauty.

Burnham Park is situated at the heart of downtown Baguio, fringed by hotels, restaurants, and shops.  It’s an ideal place for a leisurely walk due to its paved walkway. This sprawling park was the brainchild of the eponymous Daniel Burnham, who designed the park when Baguio was first developed as a retreat for the US military due to its cold weather.   You can actually find his statue at the park’s main entrance, enveloped by a rose garden.

The park features a man-made lagoon surrounded by tropical flowers, where visitors enjoy riding and rowing the swan boats.  Also, inside the confines of Burnham Park is Melvin Jones Grand Stadium, fronting the soccer field.  This place is often used as venue for concerts, parades,  political rally, and Panagbenga Festival, Baguio’s biggest festivity.

8. ILILIKHA ARTISTS VILLAGE

  • Open Hours: Daily 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Address: #32 Assumption Road, Brgy. Kabayanihan, Baguio City
  • How to get to Ililikha Artists Village: Make your way to Session Road. It’s about a 5 minute walk from there. Make a turn to Assumption Road.
  • Nearby Baguio Tourist Spots: Our Lady of Atonement Cathedral, Burnham Park

BAGUIO TOURIST SPOTS: ILILILKA ARTIST'S VILLAGE

Another creation of  Kidlat Tahimik (Eric de Guia), a National Artist for Cinema is Ililikha Artist Village. Situated in Assuption Road. It’s also a restaurant, just like Oh My Gulay café. Baguio is home to massive, dramatic painted murals showcasing the people and culture of the Cordillera region. The famous ones are part of Project Hila-Bana Mural, mostly created by Venazir Martinez, a young Filipina visial artist who believes in the power of street art as an additional learning tool for the local culture bearers. You can find one of the Project Hila-Bana Mural at PNR Compound where jeepneys are parked. It’s just across the Victory Bus Terminal in Baguio.

This historic house is inspired my American colonial architecture. It was named after General Franklin Bell who converted Camp John Hay into a military resort.  This modest building served as the residence of the Commanding General of the Philippines.

The Bell House is embraced by a garden, a pine forest, and the Bell Amphitheater, a beautifully manicured garden with concentric circles as steps.  Interestingly, these steps was designed using indigenous Ifugao terracing technology.

BAGUIO TOURIST ATTRACTION: CEMETERY OF NEGATIVISM

While you are in Camp John Hay, don’t miss the Cemetery of Negativism or the Lost Cemetery.  It’s a unique kind of cemetery as no dead person is buried here, instead, it’s meant to remind people to bury their negative traits.  It was established by the former commanding general John Hightower sometime in 1980. The cemetery is not really eerie, it is beautifully surrounded by towering pine trees and just walking distance to the age-old Bell House.

One of the reminders engraved on the stone marker here is:

“Negativism is man’s greatest self-imposed infliction, his most limiting factor, his heaviest factor.”

Camp John Hay is synonymous to Baguio and one of the best tourist spot in the pine city.  This place is surrounded by pine trees and serves as a forest watershed reservation. It was established by the Americans as a military reservation on a site owned by Ibaloi leader Mateo Cariño. During the World War II, the Japanese warplanes bombed the gates of Camp John Hay.  Later on, it became the headquarters of General Tomoyuki Yamashita during the Japanese occupation.  It is here where Yamashita surrendered. After the devastating war, Camp John Hay was transformed into an airbase by the American forces, until it was returned to the Philippines. Today, Camp John Hay is undoubtedly one of the most scenic tourist spots in Baguio.

If you are headed to Stabosa Colorful House (Valley of Colors) or to La Trinidad Baguio, the jeep that you’ll take will pass by the Bell Church.  Thus, you can drop by at this distinctly Chinese Buddhist temple on your way there or on your way back to Baguio city.

The Bell Church is an old temple established in 1960 by the Chinese immigrants from Guangzhou (formerly Canton, China) headed by Ng Pee. It is situated in Brgy.Balili La Trinidad, Benguet, near the border of Baguio City.

I remember visiting Baguio over a decade ago, and I told myself I wanted to see something different, so I went to the Bell Church. When I first set foot on its ground, I feel like being transported to a different place. Everywhere I look it’s distinctly Chinese, the ornate pailou, the towering pagoda, the dragons, and the images of Buddhas and saints.

The site is now referred to as the Colors of Stobosa, known for its colorful houses, which is somehow inspired by the Favelas of Rio de Janiero in Brazil.  The solar artist Jordan Mang-osan led a team of Tam-Awan Vilage artists, including Ged Alangui, Jenny Lorenzo, and Clinton Aniversaryo with the help of the DOT Cordillera Region and Davis Paint to revitalize the area as part of the RevBloom (revitalize and bloom) campaign.  They painted almost all the houses (except for the original blue house) here as if it is one big mural as homage to what they believe as the area of origin of mountains of sunflowers and limestone rock formations.  The residents here hoped that through this, their livelihood will be boosted.

One of the top things to do in Baguio to to go to ukay-ukay or wagwagan. Many thrift shops mushroomed over the years around and near its central business district, offering cheap clothes, jackets, shoes, toys, bags, etc. My go to ukay-ukay shops in Baguio are located at the corner of F.Calderon along Session Road . This place is quite clean compared to other shops, but the apparels are quite expensive compared to the usual ukay-ukay, perhaps because of its popularity.

Bayanihan along Shanum Street is also a pretty famous  ukay-ukay haven. Most of the products here are upscale, so expect the price to be quite expensive compared to the usual ukay-ukay prices.

Another great place to shop for ukay-ukay are the shops around U-need Supermart along San Perfecto Street corner Session Road , it’s fronting Malcolm Square

Stayed in Sotogrande Hotel last time. This is a new hotel. Room has enough space to move around. Their breakfast buffet is pretty generous. They have an in-house restaurant, and I like their crispy pata, pizza and pasta. For dessert, try their sansrival cake.

Stayed here before and I really like the cozy lobby of this hotel as well as the restaurant. Rooms are spacious too. Food at the restaurant is just okay.

35 BAGUIO TOURIST SPOTS & Things to Do

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double check with the authorities or other concerned entities for the latest updates.

Baguio has always been one of the top destinations in the Philippines. Because of its chilly temperature, pine-dominated landscapes, and overall romantic atmosphere, this mountain city has attracted tourists especially in summer and the holidays like Christmas and New Year.

Although a highly urbanized city, Baguio retains its rustic charm in spots. From natural sites to modern ones, Baguio has something for each type of traveler and each age group. Moreover, the food culture and shopping districts have become attractions themselves.

Whether you’re a regular or a first-timer, here are some of the best things to do and places to visit in and near Baguio City. In this list, we are also including attractions in the neighboring municipalities like La Trinidad and Tuba .

Note: Baguio is geographically within Benguet but is not under the jurisdiction of the province. It has its own charter and administration.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

TOP BAGUIO TOURIST SPOTS & ACTIVITIES

Baguio is bursting with interesting places to visit and things to do. But here are some of our top recommendations!

Mirador Hill and Eco Park

JAPAN IN BAGUIO! Easily a highlight of our most recent trip, the Mirador Heritage and Eco-Spirituality Park is a rising tourist destination, boasting a combination of local and Japan-inspired attractions.

This 5-hectare property is scribbled with hiking trails leading to different sites including the Rock Gardens, the Pandemic Healing Memorial, the La Storta Garden, Ifugao Houses, and the Circular Seismic Chamber (closed when we visited). But perhaps the most popular is the iconic Mirador Peace Memorial, a red-painted torii gate atop the hill, overlooking the city and the surrounding hills. It is a favorite photo spot for many visitors.

Mirador Peace Memorial

Another crowd-drawer is the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, perhaps named after the bamboo forest of Kyoto’s temple district. While the bamboo trunks are not as big or tall as those in the Japan site, it still makes for a refreshing resting and photo spot.

Mirador Hill Bamboo Groves

Aside from the park, Mirador Hill also harbors the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, Kapilya ni Hesus at Maria, Café Iñigo, and the Mirador Jesuit Villa Retreat House.

Address: Mirador Hill, Barangay Dominican Hill-Mirador, Baguio City Opening Hours: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Daily). The opening hours might change, so please check the official website or Facebook page before visiting. Entrance Fee: P100 (Regular); FREE (Below 12 y/o)

Oh, by the way, if you’re interested in only the newest attractions, we have a video about that here:

Igorot Stone Kingdom

Launched to the public in the second half of 2021, the Igorot Stone Kingdom is Baguio’s newest attraction. So new that construction of some parts were still ongoing when we visited. The park showcases both modern and traditional Igorot culture as well as the values of the Cordillera Region.

Igorot Stone Kingdom

The whole area covers about 6,000 square meters and is dominated by two massive structures facing each other — a modern-day castle and an old-school stone wall. Made of hollow blocks and cement, the modern-day castle is etched with walkways, punctuated by statues, photo spots and viewing decks. It also crowned by a food court, serving mostly Pinoy snacks.

The stone wall, on the other hand, resembles the rice terraces that feature the rock-laying skills of the Igorot people. As you climb, you get to see the Fertility Stone Tower, the Temple of Kabunyan, Bangan’s Dome, the Tower of Gatan, the Face in the Rock, and many more.

Inside Igorot Stone Kingdom

Other attractions are the Igorot Gold Mine, the Wishing Well, and the Igorot Golden Bridge. Soon, the park will also have life-size statues of prominent Igorots.

Address: #86 Long-long Benguet Road, Pinsao Proper, Baguio City Opening Hours: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Daily). The opening hours might change, so please check the official website or Facebook page before visiting. Entrance Fee: P100 (Regular); P80 (Senior & PWD with ID); P80 (Kids 4-12 y/o); FREE (3 y/o and below)

Tam-awan Village

Just a stone’s throw from Igorot Stone Kingdom lies Tam-Awan Village , nicknamed Garden in the Sky . It was commissioned by the Chanum Foundation in 1998 in order to create a model village showcasing reconstructed traditional Cordillera houses and make them accessible to more people.

Tam-awan Village

The village highlights the indigenous craftsmanship and aesthetics of the region and its local artists. From three huts transported from Ifugao, the village now has nine traditional houses — seven Ifugao huts and two Kalinga houses. These structures were reconstructed using mostly the original materials.

If you want to immerse yourself more, you can also book your lodging here.

Address: 366-C Pinsao Proper, Long Long Benguet Road, Baguio City Opening Hours: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Daily). The opening hours might change, so please check the official website or Facebook page before visiting. Entrance Fee: P60 (Adults); P40 (Students & Seniors); P30 (4-10 y/o); FREE (3 y/o and below)

Diplomat Hotel

Diplomat Hotel

Officially named the Dominican Hill Retreat House but popularly referred to as the Diplomat Hotel , the 17-hectare property is sprawled atop the Dominican Hill. It was originally built as a retreat house for the Dominican priests and nuns in the first half of the 20th century until World War II, when the Japanese took over and turned it into a military garrison and war prison.

After restorations and remodeling, the Diplomat Hotel was launched and operated between the 1970s and the 1980s. Given its history, especially the atrocities of WWII, it gained notoriety for paranormal activities, consistently putting it on the list of most haunted places in the Philippines.

Diplomat Hotel Baguio

Today, the whole hill area is declared a heritage and historical site by the local government of Baguio and was named Dominican Heritage Hill and Nature Park. The property is undergoing rehabilitation and development for tourism and is open to photoshoots, filmmaking, wedding receptions, and other events and functions.

Before we share more attractions that await you in Baguio… Have you thought about your budget for this trip? When traveling, it’s often difficult to keep track of the expenses. Thankfully, one handy app can help you watch your spending so you won’t run into some unexpected moolah troubles! And we’re talking about LISTA ! This app was originally meant for small businesses (like stores), but it’s so flexible that travelers can use it to take note of expenses! You can enter the budget you have for this trip and then type in the cost of items that you spend on along the way. This way, you know exactly just how much wiggle room you still have, money-wise. The app works offline, so you don’t have to have an internet connection to use it.

Another key feature is the SAVINGS CHALLENGE! Using the LISTA app, you can set a target amount, the target date and the frequency you’re comfortable with so you know the exact amount to save per day, week or month to turn your Baguio goals into reality. Also located within the perimeter of Camp John Hay and not far from Tree Top Adventure is the Bell House , named after General J Franklin Bell.

Cemetery of Negativism

Located on a hill’s slope between Bell House and Camp John Hay Picnic Area, the Cemetery of Negativism (also called the Lost Cemetery) was commissioned in the early 1980s by the base’s commanding general John Hightower.

baguio tourist spot horror

But this cemetery is not the usual site for burying human bodies but rather a symbolic place for burying negativities. The tombstones were inscribed with witty and punny “eulogies” which may sometimes require a dash of sarcasm to understand.

One tombstone reads “Itz Not Possible”, conceived November 11, 1905 but “still not born”. Another one has “Know Dam Way” engraved on it, then below it, “Conceived New Years Eve 1910. Didn’t work out.”

If you are looking for something unique, funny, and inspiring at the same time, head over here and scare the bad vibes away.

Address: Historical Core, Camp John Hay, Baguio City Opening Hours: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Daily). The opening hours might change, so please check the official website or Facebook page before visiting. Entrance Fee: P75. This fee also allows entrance to the Bell House.

Picnic at Camp John Hay

The park is bustling with lots of fun activities such as renting paddle boats (swan boats), biking, and go-karting. Baguio Cathedral

baguio tourist spot horror

Baguio Cathedral , officially named Our Lady of the Atonement Cathedral , is a hilltop cathedral overlooking Session Road and the busy downtown streets. It was launched in 1936 and dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

It follows a neo-Romanesque architectural style that features twin belfries/spires, a rose window (facade), and stained glass windows. It is one of the prominent landmarks in Baguio and is located beside Saint Louis University.

To access it from Session Road, visitors have to climb several steps, leading to the courtyard and the cathedral. Alternatively, you can go to Porta Vaga Shopping Mall and use the escalator leading to the cathedral’s courtyard.

Address: Our Lady Of Atonement Cathedral, Session Road, Baguio City Opening Hours: Tourists are welcome anytime but please be considerate when mass is ongoing. You can check the mass schedule on the official Facebook page. Entrance Fee: FREE

Ukay-Ukay Stores

Baguio won’t be Baguio without “SM” — Segunda Mano stores. These second-hand stores, locally called wagwagan but popularly called by tourists ukay-ukay , littered the busy streets and corners of downtown Baguio. Tourists will find themselves easily getting lost in the mountains of options for pre-loved items. The pieces vary — clothing, bags, shoes, belts, scarves, and others.

Honestly, the wide range of choices can get really overwhelming. But if you have the patience and the stamina (haha), you might dig up some vintage and rare items. The popular ukay-ukay areas are Skyworld (Session Road), Hilltop (at the back of Baguio City Market), and Bayanihan (near Burnham Park). You’ll also find some, well, good finds, at the night market!

Happy bargain hunting!

Session Road Nightlife

Session Road

One of the city’s major arteries, Session Road is the most famous street in Baguio. It is abuzz with locals and tourists going about their business during the day, but it becomes livelier at night as bars and hangout places pulsate with good music and great conversations.

If you want to have dinner first before losing yourself in music and booze with friends and maybe new acquaintances, Session Road hosts numerous international restaurants and fast-food restaurants.

But if you want to try the local offerings, it is also home to several homegrown restaurants including Sizzling Plate, Ocha Asian Restaurant, Vizco’s Restaurant, Volante, Oh My Gulay, and Drop Out, among others.

Baguio Public Market

Baguio Public Market

For pasalubong, make your way to the Baguio Public Market, which houses countless stalls selling products that are synonymous with the region — fresh strawberries and Sagada oranges, strawberry and ube jams, peanut brittle, fresh vegetables, and souvenirs!

And of course, grab a walis tambo!

baguio tourist spot horror

There’s something about Baguio’s walis tambo that makes it consistently land in the top items of pasalubong from the city. For some reason, my mom and aunts never fail to buy one when we’re in Baguio or request it from loved ones visiting Baguio. I asked my mom about it and she casually told me that the walis tambo from Baguio is sturdier and thicker.

LEONARD WOOD & MINES VIEW Tourist Spots

In this section are attractions situated northwest of the city center, usually reached by taking the Leonard Wood Road.

Baguio Botanical Garden

baguio tourist spot horror

One of the many green spaces in the city, the Baguio Botanical Garden (renamed Centennial Park) is located between Wright Park and Teacher’s Camp, along Leonard Wood Road.

This is another popular attraction in the city where visitors can enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of the verdant surroundings. The extensive garden park is just a short drive from Baguio’s Central Business District. It has many walking paths where you can see many photo-worthy spots. It also harbors the Baguio Arts Guild and the Igorot Village.

Address: 37, Leonard Wood Road, Baguio City Opening Hours: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Daily). The opening hours might change, so please check the official website or Facebook page before visiting. Entrance Fee: FREE

Wright Park

baguio tourist spot horror

Another vast greenery is the Wright Park , named after the former Governor-General Luke Edward Wright.

This is a favorite leisure spot for both locals and tourists. It’s a lush park that offers walking and jogging trails, biking paths, and rest spots. It features a long pond or pool that almost covers the whole stretch of concrete path linking the Wright Park Kiosk and The Mansion facade. It also has a pine tree-covered forest hill adjacent to the horse stable.

If you want to go horseback riding in Baguio, Wright Park provides quite a number of horses to choose from, plus it’s not too far from the city center.

Address: Wright Park, Pacdal Circle, Baguio City Opening Hours: 6:00 AM – 7:00 PM (Daily). The opening hours might change, so please check the official website or Facebook page before visiting. Entrance Fee: FREE Horseback Riding Rate: P200 for 7 rounds

The Mansion

Wright Park’s long concrete path with a pool leads to the gate of the Mansion House , popularly referred to as The Mansion. It was commissioned in 1908 to serve as the official residence of the US Governor-General in the Philippines. It underwent reconstruction in 1947 after sustaining huge damage during the Second World War.

baguio tourist spot horror

Presently, it functions as the official summer palace of the President of the Philippines. It is also the site for other important state functions and international gatherings.

Address: The Mansion, Baguio-Bua-Itogon Road, Baguio City Opening Hours: 24/7 (Mansion Gate). Most of the time, the Mansion is closed to the public, so visitors can only get a glimpse of the actual mansion from the entrance gate.

Mines View Park

Usually crowded with hordes of tourists, Mines View Park is definitely one of the most popular tourist spots. My local friends say that this is more like a tourist trap, but we’re tourists so go check it out still and see why it’s popular in the first place.

It features an observation deck that presents a panoramic view of the former gold and copper mines of Itogon town below and the mountains beyond. This is also one of the best spots for sunrise watching.

Mines View Park

If you want to avoid the crowd, go there early in the morning. The place is peppered with numerous shops, stalls, and peddlers selling souvenir items, clothes, trinkets, food, and even plants! The entrance to the park is located along Gibraltar Road.

Plant sellers also abound in the area. Baguio’s chilly atmosphere makes it favorable for growing plants — flowering, herbs, and ornamental. The wide range of choices will make veteran and newbie plantitos and plantitas go gaga over these bloom and foliage babies.

Address: Mines View Park, Gibraltar Road, Baguio City Opening Hours: 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM. The opening hours might change, so please check the official website or Facebook page before visiting. Entrance Fee: P10 (Adult); P5 (Children)

Good Shepherd Products

Not far from Mines View Park is a place where you can get the famous ube jam . It’s a quintessential pasalubong stop in Baguio where tourists willingly wait in line for the signature ube jam and other favorite products.

Good Shepherd Baguio

What makes buying from Good Shepherd special and fulfilling is its advocacy. Good Shepherd has built a good reputation for producing quality products for a cause. So where does your money go? Check the packaging (usually printed on the lid): “You help send us to college each time you buy our products”. The proceeds will be used to help send the Cordillera youth to college.

Other products are strawberry jam (seasonal), blueberry jam (seasonal), peanut cluster, cashew brittle, lengua , snowballs, angel cookies, choco flakes, alfajor cookies, banana chips, sampaloc candy, and more. There’s a strict ordering system — write down your orders first, queue, and hand over your order and payment to the attendant.

Also, don’t forget to try some of their Take Out Products which are basically snack/merienda items. Note that the lines can get too long during the peak season and there is an order limit per person. When they products are sold out, they close the site (like during our last visit).

Address: Good Shepherd Convent, 15 Gibraltar Road, Baguio City Opening Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Daily). The opening hours might change, so please check the official website or Facebook page before visiting. Entrance Fee: FREE

CULINARY ATTRACTIONS

Sample local dishes.

Baguio takes pride in its robust local culinary scene. Making the most of the abundance of ingredients, the locals came up with lots of innovative ways to create dishes and food products that embody the Cordillera region and neighboring Ilocos region, whose influence also seeps into the city.

Many of these dishes are available at various restaurants and eateries around Baguio. Some of the most well-known are pinikpikan (chicken soup), pinuneg (blood sausage) and kinuday (smoked meat), as well as dinakdakan (boiled, sliced and grilled pig’s head parts) and bagnet (deep-fried pork).

Pinuneg and kinuday

But if you want to sample a lot of delicacies at once, head over to The Farmer’s Daughter Restaurant , situated just next to Tam-awan Village. They serve mostly Cordilleran and Ilocano fare, prepared traditionally.

If you prefer a more modern twist, Cafe by the Ruins is an established name in the city’s food scene.

Local restaurants also add their Baguio twist to other Pinoy favorites. Mines View Park Hotel’s ZENZ Bar and Restaurant serves strawberry sinigang and strawberry adobo.

Strawberry Sinigang by ZENZ Bar

You can also go food tripping at the night market, Burnham Park, Ili-Likha, Good Shepherds, and Session Road, just to name a few.

You might be thinking, Oh My Gulay is a local restaurant. Why does it have its own entry? Well, if you’ve been to this art cafe, you know it deserves its own spot!

Nestled on the top floor of an old building along Session Road, I was not expecting anything for that day’s lunch stop. And to be honest, I was not too excited at first because I’m not really into vegetables. But when I took the last flight of stairs, boy was I blown away by the quirky interiors and decorations! It was like being transported into a secret, mystical world. And the indoor garden setting has its own small pond, too!

Inside Oh My Gulay!

The restaurant has two-level dining areas. The upper level has two separate sections connected by a short wooden hanging bridge. The lower-level dining area has indoor seatings as well as veranda seatings with a view of the city. A collaboration of Oh My Gulay and Vocas, the place also features exhibit areas for local artists. As the name of the restaurant suggests, it serves affordable vegetarian and vegan meals.

Ili-Likha Artist’s Wateringhole

Lying along Assumption Road is the very peculiar Ili-Likha Artist’s Wateringhole , also known as Ili-Likha Artist Village . It was built by artist and filmmaker Eric de Guia (Kidlat Tahimik), who transformed a vacant lot into this whimsical treehouse-themed food park in 2014.

Baguio Craft Brewery and Craft 1945

Enough about food! How about some drinks? And by drinks, we mean beer!

If you are the type who likes hunting for local craft beers or you just want to have a chill dinner-and-beer type of night in Baguio, there are good watering holes in the city where you can quench your thirst for beer.

Baguio Craft Brewery is a favorite among locals and tourists alike. It offers a wide selection of craft beers, including its signature craft beers named after Ifugao’s mythic characters.

Craft 1945 , partly managed by Baguio Craft Brewery, is a Spanish-themed restaurant serving premium craft beers, tapas and other Spanish dishes.

Benguet Coffee

Coffee is everywhere in Baguio, and it’s not hard to score Benguet coffee when in town. The city’s high altitude and cooler temperature make it one of the best places in the Philippines to grow coffee.

Kape Umali

You can actually buy some at the public market or at cafés like Kape Umali , which is also the biggest coffee supplier in the province and other parts of northern Luzon. The café serves traditional brews as well as specialty brews like liquor coffee and gourmet coffee. Enjoy the music and appreciate artworks at the cafe’s gallery too! The three branches are located in Shangri-la Village, Mine’s View, and Baguio Market.

Ube and Strawberry Taho

Don’t you dare get out of Baguio without trying strawberry taho . They are everywhere, especially in the vicinity of popular tourist spots including Burnham Park, Session Road, and Mines View Park to name a few.

baguio tourist spot horror

Taho is a distinct Filipino snack made of silken soybean curd (tofu), brown sugar syrup, and tapioca (sago pearls). It’s traditionally served or peddled in the morning but nowadays, it can be consumed any time of the day, depending on availability.

Since strawberries are plenty in Baguio, the locals made their own version by replacing brown sugar syrup with strawberry syrup. And boy did they own it!

If you feel like you’ve had enough of strawberries, ube taho is also available.

Strawberry Ice Cream

baguio tourist spot horror

Still on the topic of putting a twist on regular snacks, the locals are really making the most of their strawberries by coming up with their own strawberry-flavored ice cream. Fine, strawberry ice cream is not new to the market BUT the ones in Baguio taste different. And we mean in a good way.

For us, the best that we’ve tried are those sold at La Trinidad Strawberry Farm. But if you are pressed for time, you can easily find it in downtown Baguio.

Baguio is dubbed the "City of Pines" and is famous for its green park spaces and hillsides teeming with gigantic pine trees.

Chilly dusk in Baguio City, Philippines

If it's your first time in the city and are wondering where to go in Baguio, put Burnham Park on your list. Considered the city's "mother of all parks," Burnham Park is one of Baguio's best attractions. It was named after urban planner Daniel Burnham, the American architect who came up with the original design and layout of the park.

Burnham Park is an open green park at the heart of Baguio. The park's lush greeneries and blooming flowers make you forget that you are in the middle of a highly urbanized city.

Burnham Park is very accessible; it is located along Harrison Road and is just a stone's throw from the famous Baguio thoroughfare, Session Road. There are also several hotels that are within walking distance of the park, including Holiday Inn Baguio City Centre and Eurotel Baguio.

The park boasts multiple clusters that offer different activities and attractions, such as the Children's Playground, Rose Garden, Orchidarium, Picnic Grove, and Igorot Garden.

Aside from those attractions, Burnham Park is best known for the picturesque centuries-old artificial lake at its center. If there is one thing you must experience at Burnham Park, it is boating at the famous Burnham Lagoon. It's one of the best things to do in Baguio City.

There are several boats you can rent here. The best part is that they are easy to operate so that you can row it on your own. Boating in Burnham lagoon at sunset makes for a memorable experience if you're traveling with a loved one. So go ahead and rent a boat and go rowing!

Trying out other  Burnham Park tours is also an excellent way to explore the park.

2. Feast on Local Cuisine at The Farmer's Daughter

If you want to taste authentic traditional Filipino dishes , there's no better place to go than The Farmer's Daughter, one of the most popular Baguio restaurants .

This unassuming nipa hut restaurant on the outskirts of Baguio will take your tastebuds by surprise. It's thanks to the essential cooking techniques they employ and the fresh local ingredients they use.

The Farmer's Daughter serves home-cooked regional cuisine centered on smoked meats, fresh vegetables, and native wines.

They may be humble home-cooked dishes, but you'll be surprised by how packed they are with potent flavors that will make you crave more. Be sure to try their best-sellers; the Pinikpikan, Etag, and Pinuneg.

Pinikpikan is an Igorot dish. The Igorots are one of the indigenous tribes in the Cordillera region, and they follow a unique ritual in preparing chicken soup.

The Etag, on the other hand, is sundried or smoked pork. The meat is cured in salt for a week and then either sundried or smoked for several weeks.

Pinuneg is the Ibaloi Tribe's signature sausage. What makes it unique is that, unlike ordinary sausages, it's not made from ground meat. It is pig's blood sauteed in onions and other local spices. If you fancy exotic native cuisine, The Farmer's Daughter Restaurant certainly will not disappoint you.

Cordillera mountain view from the Mines View Park at night

Baguio was a former mining town in the early 20th century. To get a glimpse of that past, you have to visit Mines View Park. This park sits on a ridge on the northeast side of Baguio.

As such, its main attraction is a viewing deck that offers a stunning view of the Cordillera Mountains and Benguet's old copper and gold mines.

Tourists are given a chance to dress in traditional Ifugao garbs like bahag (loincloth), vests, and headdresses, and even hold a shield and spear for picture-taking.

Mines View Park is also a great spot to buy souvenirs. There are several shops here that sell woven items, knitted garments, wooden souvenirs, as well as silverwork.

freshly picked strawberries from the strawberry farms in La Trinidad

Visiting the strawberry farm in nearby La Trinidad along with other attractions is one of the top experiences you can't miss out on when you're in the Summer Capital.

The weather in the North is perfect for growing several kinds of vegetables and fruits, but nothing is more popular and delicious than the plump red strawberries here.

See our popular Strawberry Farm Tours

La Trinidad, the capital of Benguet, is about 30 minutes from the Baguio town proper. This municipality is where you'll find hectares of land dedicated to growing strawberries to supply the rest of the country. It is one of the most popular  Benguet tours .

If you want to take your Baguio experience even further, there is no better way than to try strawberry picking at the La Trinidad Strawberry Farms.

The activity is open from November to May every year. The rates for this activity vary. If you leave the work to the professionals, you can buy freshly picked strawberries near the exits of the farm.

  6. Appreciate Art at BenCab Museum

Baguio is home to a vibrant art scene; from contemporary Filipino art to the distinctive traditional architecture of the Cordillera Region.

Whether you're an art aficionado or you're looking to deepen your appreciation for Filipino art, be sure to drop by at BenCab Museum.

BenCab Museum is home to the permanent collection of Philippine National Artist Benedicto Cabrera. It also serves as a venue for art shows and exhibitions.

The museum has several themed galleries. One of which is a gallery dedicated to original Cordillera art pieces such as sculptures, weapons, and paintings. Immersions in Bencab Museum is one of the best ways to enjoy the province and can also be enjoyed as a rainy season activity in the Philippines .

One of the prominent exhibits is BenCab's bulol collection. Bulol is an Ifugao rice god figurine carved from Narra wood. You won't miss this exhibit, as the display occupies a whole wall in the museum.

Another fascinating exhibition is the Erotica Gallery, which features several paintings and sculptures that explore sensuality.

There is also the Indigo Gallery, which features the works of several renowned Filipino contemporary artists.

Of course, the highlight of the museum is the gallery of BenCab himself. The BenCab Gallery houses the National Artist's masterpieces, which mostly feature Sabel, his best-known muse.

Sabel was a real scavenger woman whom BenCab saw and photographed in 1965. She has since been the subject of several of BenCab's paintings.

Aside from the galleries, BenCab Museum also has a restaurant. Cafe Sabel serves the Cabrera family recipes and uses ingredients that are grown in the museum's garden.

entrance to the Tam-awan Village

If you want to explore to learn more about the region's indigenous art forms, go on a Cordillera heritage tour and start with Tam-Awan Village.

Built by the Chanum Foundation in 1998, Tam-Awan Village is modeled after native Ifugao villages to give people a glimpse of the other parts of the region.

The word Tam-Awan in the local dialect means vantage point. An apt name since the Tam-Awan Village sits on a hillside with a panoramic view of the South China Sea.

With a stunning vista and lush greenery, you'll surely enjoy exploring the several Cordillera huts scattered around Tam-Awan Village. You can also go on a quick hike to several viewing decks in the village.

See our popular Tam-Awan Village Tours

If you're not too keen on hiking, check out the art galleries in Tam-Awan Village. The village also holds regular exhibitions and cultural shows from both local and visiting artists.

For a more immersive experience, join Tam-Awan village tours and register for any of their workshops in drawing, oil painting, watercolor, and wood carving.

baguio night market busy scene

If you're unsure of what to do in Baguio at night, drop by the Baguio Night Market. Baguio is a famous bargain shopping hotspot. If you want to put your haggling skills to the test, there is no better place than the Baguio Night Market. This bargain-hunting haven is every thrifty fashionista's dream.

From 9 PM to 2 AM, a part of Harrison Road at the northeast of Burnham Park transforms into a flea market. Here you can find everything to complete a casual look without burning a hole through your wallet, thanks to the rows of ukay-ukay stalls.

Ukay-ukay is the local term for surplus items shipped from other countries and second-hand apparel such as clothes, bags, and footwear that are sold at bargain prices.

Baguio Night Market is overflowing with ukay-ukay. It's the best place to shop for quality second-hand jackets, boots, clothes, and accessories for a fraction of their original price.

And if you're lucky or have great thrift-shopping skills, you can score one-of-a-kind vintage finds or even items that are in mint condition.

After shopping, grab an ear of sweet corn, noodle soup, or other street food on the northern side of the hill.

horses in wright park

Wright Park is one of the many scenic parts of Baguio. It is a quiet promenade with blossoming flowers, a pool lined with pine trees, and a long stairway that leads visitors to a riding circle.

Wright Park is considerably smaller than Burnham Park, but it is also less crowded and more peaceful. It is located in the eastern part of Baguio and fronts the main gate of The Mansion.

Wright Park's long rectangular pond is called the "Pool of Pines," which could not be a more perfect name as the length of the lake is flanked by pine trees on both sides.

There is also a park circle and pavilion where you can sit, relax, and listen to the swaying pine. Wright Park is an open green space, so feel free to stroll around and admire its natural beauty.

Wright Park is often called Ride Park, an understandable mistake since the park is known for its horseback-riding activity.

Indeed, Wright Park is the perfect place for people who love horses and want to learn how to ride one. It’s a great addition to the tourist spots often included on a day trip in Baguio . Follow the long stairway at the far end of Wright Park to reach the Riding Circle.

There you'll find several horses you can hire and ride around in the vicinity. If you're traveling with kids, good news! There are friendly ponies that are perfect for children.

Rest assured, every horse has an experienced handler who will guide and watch riders at all times. If it's your first time, the driver will lead the horse and walk alongside you as you ride.

10. Spend Time at The Mansion

View of The Mansion in Baguio City, Philippines

Located on the eastern side of the city, it is right in front of the idyllic Wright Park. This grand palace is easily one of the most photographed landmarks in Baguio.

Although the main gate is open to the public, visitors are only allowed in The Mansion House Museum, where tourists can check out presidential memorabilia.

Aside from exploring the museum, the only other activity you can do here is picture-taking. So don't be shy about taking tons of photographs!

The Mansion's elegant main building is inspired by the Spanish Colonial Revival design, making it an excellent backdrop for any picture. You can also snap photos in front of the ornate iron gate or by the beautifully manicured lawn.

bridge inside the baguio botanical garden

The Baguio Botanical Garden is one of the most beautiful places in Baguio and provides a much-needed tranquil space amid bustling Baguio City. In 2009, the garden was renamed Centennial Park in celebration of Baguio's 100th year as the Summer Capital of the Philippines.

However, it is more known as the Botanical Garden.

Exploring the garden is a whole adventure on its own, as it has several sections with different attractions. As you enter the park, you will be greeted by a giant sculpture.

This bronze masterpiece is the work of Ben Hur Villanueva, a renowned Filipino sculptor. The statue represents the of the Cordillerans, Americans, Chinese, and Japanese in building Baguio.

Filled with pine trees, the Botanical Garden has two purposes. It serves as a hideaway in the often crowded city. It also houses nurseries dedicated to propagating flora that will eventually be replanted in the parks and gardens of Baguio.

With the abundance of trees and different plants, the Baguio Botanical Garden is truly a great place to unwind. You can explore the various sections, sit by the benches, or have a snack under the cottages.

You will find pocket gardens and pavilions dedicated to Baguio's sister cities in countries such as South Korea, Japan, China, Canada, Thailand, and the USA.

These sections are decorated with symbols that represent each city. There are also relics from the Igorot Village, such as giant statues depicting different Cordillera tribes.

Aside from the pasalubong stores around Mines View Park, do not forget to drop by the Good Shepherd Convent, which is just a stone's throw away.

Their acclaimed peanut brittle, ube, and strawberry jam have become synonymous with Baguio pasalubong. They are also now offering baked goodies like Lengua de Gato and alfajores, homemade ice cream, and strawberry-calamansi juice.

Nuns and volunteers from the international congregation The Religious of the Good Shepherd Sisters run the convent, with profits from Good Shepherd going to charity.

Students of the Mountain Maid Training Center and Development Inc. create the products as part of the congregation's livelihood program for poor female students from Kalinga and Bontoc.

Be prepared to either line up for at least 30 minutes as you wait to be serviced or get heartbroken when your desired product goes out of stock.

Though, you may enjoy taking photos from the convent's view deck with the Cordillera Mountains as your background.

structure of the baguio cathedral

Formally known as the Our Lady of Atonement Cathedral, the Baguio Cathedral stands atop Mount Mary Hill, or what the Ibalois call "Kampo."

The church is known for its Neo-Gothic style, as evidenced by its twin spires and its rose-colored exterior with stained-glass windows.

During World War II, it served as an evacuation center. Baguio Cathedral is also the largest Catholic church in the city. As it is built on top of a hill, it gives visitors an awe-inspiring bird' s-eye view of Session Road and the whole of Baguio.

The Baguio Cathedral can be reached by climbing a 104-step staircase.

If you want to cut some time and effort, the road up the hill is accessible to cars. You can also climb the escalators of Porta Vaga Shopping Mall on Session Road and exit at the top floor, as it'll lead onto the church's parking grounds.

Statue at Bell Church in Baguio City, Philippines

Bell Church was founded in 1960 by Ng Pee, a Chinese immigrant from the Canton Region.

This Chinese temple is primarily influenced by Taoist architecture, but it also features a fusion of Buddhist symbols and follows ancient Chinese methods of construction.

Upon arriving at Bell Church, an ornate arch with dragon highlights and Chinese inscriptions will greet you. In front of the temple, you will find two octagonal lotus ponds that resemble a Bagua.

In Chinese culture, it represents the concept of rebirth and immortality. As you explore the church grounds, prepared to be entranced by the soaring pagodas, dragons, and lion statues, of course, the bells that decorate Bell Church.

Bell Church's pagodas feature images of saints and the Buddha. Past the opposing dragon figures, you will find a charming koi pond where you can make a wish.

You can go to the central patio of Bell Church to witness a panoramic view of the surrounding hills.

Baguio is a melting pot of diverse Cordilleran culture. The Baguio Museum stands as a reminder of that and the city's storied past and rich cultural and historical heritage.

The museum was built to resemble a traditional Ifugao home. It has wood and stone, and it features a pyramid roof that has two towering concrete poles at the stair entrance.

Baguio is part of Benguet Province and the greater Cordillera Region. The main floor of the building is dedicated to the craftsmanship of the provinces of the Cordillera region: Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Apayao, and Abra.

You will find various tribal artifacts, native jewelry, apparel, fabrics, and musical instruments encased by protective glass panels.

If you're curious about what the lives of the indigenous Cordilleran tribes look like, the miniature dioramas in the museum will give you a picture.

Aside from the exhibits, the museum has educational clippings and photographs where you can learn more about the history of Baguio and the different tribes in Cordillera.

Baguio Museum also houses models of the different huts used by tribes in ancient times. Even more fascinating is the museum's collection of burial jars and carved wooden coffins, one of which contains a real mummified body!

See our popular Museum Tours

As you can tell by now, Baguio is full of surprises. And as if the one discussed above is not enough, this perpetually cold city has one more natural attraction that will take you by surprise.

16 kilometers northwest of Baguio lies the hot springs of Tuba, Benguet. Known as the Asin Hot Springs, these thermal and therapeutic springs are the perfect spot for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Because of its considerable distance from the city center, Asin Hot Springs is one of the most underrated destinations in the province of Benguet.

Although the pools are tiled, the waters that fill them are natural and come straight from the mountains. The springs are even said to have healing properties.

For instance, the hotness of the water is known to soothe muscle pains, while the sulfuric water stimulates blood circulation and moisturizes the skin. Take a dip and feel your stress wash away.

Aside from the soothing thermal water, Asin Hot Spring offers visitors scenic mountain views and lush vegetation. There are also different facilities, such as pools for adults and children-friendly ones.

hand-woven cloth in easter weaving room

To complete your Baguio city culture and countryside tour, stop by the Easter Weaving Room. Established in 1909, Easter Weaving Room is as old as Baguio itself.

It is also one of the few places in Baguio where you can witness authentic traditional weaving techniques practiced by the natives of the Cordillera Region.

Easter Weaving Room has a work area where you can watch weavers do their magic on the looms with multi-colored threads.

You also get to witness the intricacy of making the exquisite Montanosa cloth, which is a colorful hand-woven cloth unique to the Cordillera Region.

Aside from watching weavers work, you can also go around and check out the Easter Weaving Room's displays.

traditional weaving of cloth in baguio

You can also purchase those items, as well as baskets and wood carvings.

Compared to other woven products sold around Baguio, the quality of the items made in the Easter Weaving room is superior and, most of the time, even cheaper.

18. Stop by the Ifugao Woodcarver's Village

Another great spot to buy souvenirs in Baguio is the Ifugao Woodcarver's Village.

Stretching for 3 kilometers long along Asin Road, the Woodcarver's Village is the largest concentration of veteran and budding local woodcarvers in Baguio.

Here traditional crafts and skills of weaving and woodcarving that span back decades are practiced and passed on to the next generations. Ifugao woodcarvers are recognized as the best among Cordillera tribes in this art form.

The village is famous for its excellent quality wood carvings. From small critical chains to towering statues of Igorot tribesmen, you will be stunned by the variety of handmade crafts in the Ifugao Woodcarvers Village.

Woodcarver's village showcases the indigenous aesthetics of the region, its natural environment, and the rich cultural heritage of the Cordillerans through wood carving.

Subjects of the carved items are mostly associated with the Cordillera, the indigenous people, and animals. They are also commonly religious icons, household items, furniture, signs, and key chains.

The shanty-covered hills of La Trinidad used to be an eyesore in otherwise scenic countryside.

Inspired by the Favelas of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and the Gamcheon Cultural Village of South Korea, the local government sought to transform the bleak hillside communities of La Trinidad.

Today, the houses of Stonehill, Botiw-tiw, and Sadjap (StoBoSa) have become an expansive life-sized art piece collectively called the StoBoSa Hillside Homes Artwork.

Also known as the Colors of StoBoSa, it comprises around 200 houses over an area of 18,000 square meters. If the sheer expanse of it is not enough to wow you, the vibrant hues of this massive art piece will.

This stunning community artwork has now become a hit tourist attraction. Indeed, the Colors of StoBoSa is a magnificent menagerie of bright colors that will capture your attention and entice you to stop and take pictures.

Ah, first on the list and considered to be one of the “OG” tourist destinations in Baguio City is no other than Mines View Park. When I first visited this place years ago, I remember being mesmerized by its stunning views. I was with my girlfriend (now my ex) at that time, so I only remember happiness and excitement. Oh, what young love could do. Haha!

The main attraction in this park is the observation deck where tourists can enjoy the breathtaking panoramic view of the Cordillera mountains along with the abandoned copper and gold mines of Itogon, Benguet.

Mines View Park is a one-stop-shop for tourists because aside from its scenic views, there are also a lot of other things you can enjoy! Take the chance to shop for nice souvenirs, take pictures wearing the traditional Igorot clothing, try some of the delicious grilled sweet corn and squid, bring home some of the beautiful plants, and finally, have your picture taken with the fluffy and adorably huge St. Bernard Dog! I’ve got to say, the last one is my personal favorite!
