Detailed Itinerary

Your guide will await you at your hotel lobby at an appointed time 8:00am. A moderate amount of walking is also involved in this day. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

The tour will be began from Tian'anmen Square where the famous Chairman Mao's portrait is hang on the wall of the Gate of Heavenly Peace. Like the Times Square in New York, Red Square in Moscow and St. Peter's Square, Tiananmen Square is a must-visit place for traveler to Beijing and is the largest public square in the world. You will have around 20 minutes there for taking photos.

NOTE: Tian'anmen Square could be enforced martial law due to government activities temporarily, which we can NOT be informed in advance. So the tour guide may adjust the itinerary according to the situation.

You will then have a short walk from Tian'anmen Square to the Forbidden City. The world's largest historical palatial complex, this massive walled compound dates from the 15th century, and was home to 14 Ming and 10 Qin emperors. Tour the main pavilions, halls and courtyards — the complex houses 800 buildings — and admire the classical Chinese architecture.

Your tour guide will share tales of the royals who lived and ruled from here, more hidden story about this palace and any historic things with you.

Good to Know:

  • As the most popular attraction in Beijing, the Forbidden City receives many tourists everyday. Usually people have to stand in a queue to buy the tickets for a long time! In order to save your time, your tour guide will buy the tickets on-line in advance to avoid this situation.
  • We will provide the FM headset while the group is more than 3 people.

After that, your guide and driver will take you to the Temple of Heaven. This is one sight not to miss when touring Beijing. The Altar, Echo Wall, and spectacular Imperial Vault are the highlights of most tour packages. Spending some time to discover that this was a fasting palace for the emperor. The emperor would fast at the palace before he held a ceremony to pray for a good harvest, and would abstain from meat and wine.

Admire the religious buildings and see the magnificent Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, where the emperors prayed for fruitful harvests. You will also get a chance to glimpse at the pictures of all the emperors who ever worshipped in the Temple of Heaven, as well as a 600-year-old copper statue of a high ranking official who supervised the fasting process of the emperor.

Before go to the Summer Palace, take a break and enjoy a delicious lunch in our well-selected restaurant to taste local dishes.

In the afternoon, heading to the Northwest of Beijing city. Approx. 50-miniute driving to visit the world-famous imperial garden called the Summer Palace. The imperial building was constructed by the emperor in celebration of his mother's birthday.

It is 273 hectares in size and is composed of three main scenic areas: the palace area, lake area, and mountain area. The best way to enjoy sightseeing at the Summer Palace is by taking a dragon boat on the lake (the boat trip is not available in winter as the lake would be frozen) and, on the way, you will have a chance to view all of the beautiful palaces at the side of the lake.

Finished the boat trip, enjoy a leisurely stroll to admire the ornamental gardens, buildings, and other architectural gems.

Your guide and driver will transfer you back to the hotel, making a perfect end to your Beijing panoramic tour with Trippest.

Tailor Make Your Beijing Tour

Vivian, a sales manager at Tour-Beijing, did a fantastic job of coordinating a wonderful trip for myself and my friend. She helped make our travel dreams become reality (bike riding alongside the Great Wall, dumpling making lesson in a private home, hiking the Great Wall, seeing the Terra Cotta Warriors, etc). Our guides were all fantastic. They always showed up on time (including at the airports), which put my friend and I at ease, seeing as we did not have phones with SIM card capabilities. They all spoke English proficiently, and we did not have any communication issues. I highly recommend Tour-Beijing! Annedebhoff Brooklyn, New York

Beijing (4 Days)

Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Jingshan Park, Hutongs, Simaitai Great Wall, Gubei Water Town

Itinerary Day by Day

Nihao! Welcome to Beijing , the capital city of China! Upon your arrival at the airport/train station in Beijing, the tour guide and driver will meet and greet you at the exit, and then escort you to the well-selected hotel in downtown Beijing. The rest of the day is free on your own so you can have a good rest for the jet lag or explore by yourself around your hotel.

Arrival Ideas: Beijing is well connected by air and high speed rail. There are two airports - Beijing Daxing International Airport and Beijing Capital International Airport operating many international and domestic airlines. Travelers can go to Beijing by air from most cities of China, like Hong Kong, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Xian, Guilin, Hangzhou, Kunming, Wuhan, Xiamen, Guiyang, Chongqing, and Lanzhou. In addition, travelers can take the high speed train to Beijing from Xian (4-5 hours), Shanghai (4.5-6 hours), Zhengzhou (2.5-3 hours), Wuhan (4-5 hours), Harbin (5-5.5 hours), etc.

Free Time Ideas: You are welcome to ask your tour guide for some useful tips to spend your free time based on your time and interest.

Dining

After breakfast, your tour guide and driver will meet you at your hotel in downtown Beijing. Then, you will spend the whole day exploring the ancient citadel Beijing through China’s famous landmarks, epic imperial grandeur and royal gardens.

You will head to Tian’anmen Square first, which is the world’s largest public square and also the symbol of China. It has witnessed many big events in China over the past decades and from here you can take good pictures of Tiananmen Gate showing on CCTV News every day.

Walk across the square and you will visit the might and splendor of the awe-inspiring Forbidden City (World Heritage), the world’s largest palace complex and one-time home to 24 emperors of China. With about 500 years’ history, Forbidden City served as the political and ritual center of China during the Ming (1368-1644) and the Qing (1644-1911) dynasties. With 9,999 rooms, the Forbidden City is not only China’s largest and best-preserved collection of ancient buildings, but also a city within the city, like the Vatican in Rome. Enter through Meridian Gate and visit along the central axis to ensure you won’t miss any highlighted palaces. You can admire its brilliant architecture and numerous ancient art treasures while listening to your guide and learning more about the emperors’ stories hidden inside the Imperial Palace . Later, take another 15-minute walk up to Jingshan Park , where you can have a magnificent panorama of modern Beijing and princely views over the russet roofs of the Forbidden City.

In this afternoon, you will enjoy a relaxing time exploring the ordinary local life through the Beijing Old Hutong . Stroll along the Yandaixiejie Steet , the oldest commercial street (about 800 years) and one of the oldest and top 10 popular hutongs in Beijing. Yandaixie Street, which means Skewed Tobacco Pouch Street in Chinese, is a 232-meter-long Hutong. During the Qing Dynasty, people were fond of smoking and carried tobacco pouches (Yandai) with them wherever they went. As a result, many tobacco shops (selling smoking sets) opened on this skewed (xie) street, giving rise to its name. Now you can still purchase tobacco pouches of various sizes and shapes there, including porcelain ones, jade ones, wooden ones, and bronze ones. Located close to the Shichahai Park and Nanluoguxiang Hutong, Yandaixiejie is also a cultural street, where many quadrangle dwellings (Si He Yuan) are dotted, attracting millions of visitors each year. Don't forget to try the Hutong food and take a Rickshaw Tour around the Hutongs and the Shichahai Area.

After the tour, be escorted to your hotel in Beijing.

Beijing Tian'anmen Square

Get ready for an extraordinary day as you journey through two sections of the Great Wall, from the breathtaking beauty of Jinshanling during daylight hours to the enchanting ambiance of Simatai as night falls.

Your private guide will meet you at your hotel in the morning and it will be a 2.5 hours drive to Jinshanling Great Wall . The Jinshanling Great Wall is one of the most photogenic parts of the Great Wall. It was named after the Greater and Lesser Jinshan Ranges, also known as the "paradise of photographers."

Your exploration starts at the Zhuanduokou Pass , from where we will traverse the eastern section of the Jinshanling Great Wall, passing through iconic watchtowers such as the General Tower , Lesser Jinshan Tower , Larger Jinshan Tower , each with its unique charm and historical significance and excellent photo opportunities. Afterward, you can either opt for a cable car ride from Small Jinshan Tower down the mountain or continue walking to the East Tower with Five Holes to descend. ( The cable car is optional. If you want to take it, please tell your guide who will be very happy to arrange it for you.)

Next, you'll transfer to the Simatai Great Wall . Your guide will accompany you on the cable car up to the Simatai Great Wall to see the sunset. As the sun begins to descend, your adventure takes an intriguing turn. The captivating allure of Simatai beckons you to explore its mystical ambiance under the night sky. As darkness blankets the landscape, the Great Wall undergoes a stunning transformation, adorned by the soft glow of lights. After the night tour, take a cable car down the wall and go to check in at your hotel at Gubei Water Town.

Jinshanling Great Wall, Beijing

Start your day with a hearty breakfast at your hotel. Today's itinerary begins with exploring Gubei Water Town , a charming ancient town that's nestled against the Simatai Great Wall. Gubei Water Town is a rare combo of the Great Wall, mountains, lakes, and ancient Villages.

Gubei Water Town offers a glimpse of historical and cultural China with its well-preserved courtyard-style homes, classical bridges, old streets, and the picturesque Mandarin Duck Lake . With its serene waterways, stone bridges, and quaint courtyards, it exudes a charm reminiscent of the famous southern water towns of China.

Spend your morning wandering around the narrow lanes and enjoying the photogenic views of the Great Wall as a backdrop. Here, you can indulge in a variety of activities including boat rides, traditional craft workshops, or just simply soaking in the tranquil ambiance of this rustic town. If you're a food enthusiast, don't miss out on the chance to savor local delicacies at the many traditional eateries scattered throughout the town.

In the afternoon, make a 2-hour transfer back to your hotel in Beijing downtown. Your guide will ensure you have a comfortable and relaxing journey, allowing you to reflect on the unforgettable experiences you've had during your Great Wall exploration and your visit to Gubei Water Town.

Latest Beijing Tours Reviews from Our Customers

Wayne C

I'm a Singaporean traveller who booked a private solo tour. I chanced upon AOT after I googled and decided to travel last min. My planner from AOT named Rita was very patient towards all my request and changes, she is knowledgeable and provided excellent advice for my 8 days trip arrangement from Shanghai, Zhangjiajie N Chongqing. Although there were very minor hiccups just like any overseas holiday, it was still a well planned trip.

I would like thank all my tour guides and drivers (师父) for looking after me so well. Special mention to Zhangjiajie Tour Guide named Ms Rita Wang, she looks after her client with her sincerest heart into the smallest details such as eating habits and my lifestyle. (Example: Turning A/C on knowing we Singaporeans can't live without A/C in car & also I don't even have to look at menu to order food becos she knows what I want to eat) Also thank you 杨师父 who tagged team with Rita, he is a very good skilled safe driver and knows how look after me during long haul journey drive inter cities.

I would strongly reccomended anyone who wants to travel to look for Rita or her colleagues from Asia Odyssey Travel.

Lastly, thank you to all whom I've crossed path during my trip. I'm grateful to all people in China for the warm hospitality. 感恩大家的招待和爱。

I left my heart in Zhangjiajie

China and us resume cooperation on deportation as chinese immigrants rush in from southern border.

WASHINGTON – Beijing and Washington have quietly resumed cooperation on the deportation of Chinese immigrants who are in the U.S. illegally, as the two countries are reestablishing and widening contacts following their leaders' meeting in California late last year.

After China suspended cooperation in August 2022, the United States saw a drastic surge in the number of Chinese immigrants entering the country illegally from Mexico. U.S. border officials arrested more than 37,000 Chinese nationals on the southern border in 2023, 10 times the number during the previous year, further exacerbating tensions over immigration going into the presidential election.

In a statement sent to The Associated Press this week, the Chinese foreign ministry said Beijing was "willing to maintain dialogue and cooperation in the area of immigration enforcement with the U.S.” and would accept the deportation of those whose Chinese nationality has been verified.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas last month told the U.S. House during a budget hearing that he had “an engagement" with his Chinese counterpart to ensure that China would begin to accept removal flights so "we can deliver a consequence" for Chinese immigrants who do not have a legal basis to remain in the U.S.

Mayorkas also said there was one deportation flight to China, for “the first time in a number of years.”

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement did not respond to an AP request for details on the cooperation and the number of Chinese nationals who have been deported or await deportation. Without cooperation from the Chinese government, the U.S. cannot send back Chinese immigrants who have no legal status to stay in the country.

It is unclear when cooperation resumed, but a charter flight carrying a small but unknown number of deportees landed in the northeastern Chinese city of Shenyang on March 30, according to Thomas Cartwright of Witness at the Border, an advocacy group that tracks deportation flights. The group has not detected other flights to China, but it's possible that some immigrants could have been deported on commercial flights, Cartwright said.

The number of Chinese deportees was certainly small on the March 30 flight because the Gulfstream V, which took off from Arizona and stopped in Texas and Alaska before reaching China, typically has a seating capacity of 14. It also made a stop in South Korea before heading back to the U.S., according to Cartwright.

But it was a sign that Beijing and Washington are once again cooperating on deportation, after the Chinese government stopped the cooperation in response to a visit by Nancy Pelosi, then the House speaker, to Taiwan. Beijing claims sovereignty over the island and strongly opposes any official contact between the island and the U.S.

Beijing also halted high-level military-to-military dialogue, cooperation on anti-narcotics and talks on climate change, plunging relations to a low.

It wasn't until November 2023 when President Joe Biden hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping in Woodside, California, that the two sides agreed to restart the military-to-military talks and cooperation in fighting fentanyl. Dialogue on climate change had resumed before then.

In April, Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell complained that Beijing was doing little to curb the outflow of Chinese migrants. Beijing countered that it “firmly opposes any form of illegal immigration and severely cracks down on all forms of illegal immigration organizations."

The number of Chinese migrants arrested by the U.S. border patrol peaked in December but it showed a downward trend in the first three months of 2024.
