The 5 best destinations you can visit on a Virgin Voyages ship

Gene Sloan

Anyone looking for the best Virgin Voyages cruise itinerary will want to start with its sailings to the Bahamas and Caribbean.

The three-ship line has focused most of its energy since its debut in 2021 on creating relatively short, fun, adult-focused voyages out of Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico, to the two regions, with two of its vessels spending a significant amount of their time on such itineraries.

For a line with so few ships, that makes sense, as the Bahamas and Caribbean account for the biggest chunk of demand for cruises.

Still, as Virgin Voyages grows — it has a fourth ship on order — it is likely to greatly expand its offerings in other parts of the world.

Already, in addition to a year-round presence in the Bahamas and Caribbean, Virgin Voyages has been offering regular sailings in the Mediterranean on a seasonal basis, from spring to fall, with at least one and sometimes two ships. With the arrival of its third ship recently, it also was able to expand its offerings with its first voyages to Australia and New Zealand.

While the latter voyages aren't starting up until the end of 2023, they're already open for bookings.

What are the best Virgin Voyages destinations you can visit and itineraries you can choose? Here are TPG's top five picks.

Short sailings to The Bahamas and Caribbean

voyages 5 destinations

Virgin Voyages got its start offering short sailings to the Bahamas and Caribbean out of Miami, and that's still the line's biggest cruise destination focus. In fact, one of Virgin Voyages' two vessels currently in operation, the 2,770-passenger Scarlet Lady , does nothing but short sailings to the Bahamas and Caribbean out of Miami.

In all cases, these sailings include a stop in the Bahamas. Some then add a Caribbean stop, while others add a stop in Florida.

Related: I've been on more than 150 cruise ships; here's why Scarlet Lady surprised me

Specifically, Scarlet Lady offers four different four- and five-night Bahamas itineraries out of Miami year-round. All include a stop at Bimini in the Bahamas, where the line has a private beach club , as well as a single call in either Mexico, the Dominican Republic or Key West, Florida. The four itineraries are:

  • Fire and Sunset Soirees itinerary: a four-night cruise to Bimini and Key West, plus one sea day
  • Riviera Maya itinerary: a five-night cruise to Bimini and Cozumel, Mexico, plus two sea days
  • Dominican Haze itinerary: a five-night cruise to Bimini and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, plus two sea days
  • Mayan Sol itinerary: a five-night cruise to Bimini and Costa Maya, Mexico, plus two sea days

In keeping with its "time to let loose" adults-only vibe, Virgin Voyages has built relatively late stays into several of the port calls on these itineraries, allowing passengers to maximize their fun time ashore. The typical stay at Bimini — where the line holds DJ-led pool parties at its private beach club late into the day — extends until 8 p.m., which is later than most ships stay at Bahamian ports. Visits to Cozumel, Mexico, also extend to 8 p.m.

Scarlet Lady has operated these sailings since it debuted as Virgin's first vessel in 2021, and it'll continue rotating through the itineraries until May 2024. At that point, Scarlet Lady's nearly identical sister vessel, the 2,770-passenger Valiant Lady, will take over these Bahamas and Caribbean routes.

Longer sailings to the Bahamas and Caribbean

voyages 5 destinations

Initially, Virgin Voyages only offered shorter sailings of five or fewer nights to the Bahamas and Caribbean. But its list of itineraries in the regions is now peppered with longer voyages of six to eight nights.

These are sailings that stop in more distant Caribbean destinations such as St. Croix and Roatan, Honduras, and will appeal to cruisers who find trips of just four or five days too short.

For 2024, Virgin is offering four such longer itineraries, two of which are out of Miami and operated by the line's second ship, Valiant Lady , as well as its original vessel, Scarlet Lady:

  • Eastern Caribbean Antilles itinerary: an eight-night cruise to San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. Croix; Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic and Bimini, plus two sea days
  • Western Caribbean Charm itinerary: a six-night cruise to Costa Maya, Mexico; Roatan, Honduras; and Bimini, plus two sea days

The other two longer Caribbean itineraries that Virgin is offering in 2024 are both out of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and operated only by Valiant Lady.

  • Sunsets in the Lesser Antilles itinerary: a seven-night cruise to Aruba, Curacao, Martinique and St. Kitts, plus two sea days
  • Southeastern Caribbean Isles itinerary: a seven-night cruise to Tortola, Antigua, Guadeloupe, St. Lucia and Barbados, plus one sea day

Virgin also operates one-off sailings out of Miami around the winter holidays. Typical is a six-night "Valiant Caribbean Holidays" sailing out of Miami on Dec. 20, 2024, visiting Puerto Plata, Nassau and Bimini.

The Mediterranean

voyages 5 destinations

Another top destination for Virgin Voyages is the Mediterranean , where the line has been expanding quickly as it adds new ships.

In 2023, Virgin sent its new ship, Resilient Lady, to the Mediterranean through October to join Valiant Lady in the region, doubling up on its Mediterranean departures as compared to 2022. And the line plans a similar two-ship lineup for the Mediterranean again in 2024, when it'll be Scarlet Lady joining Resilient Lady in the region from spring to fall.

The addition of a second ship in the Mediterranean for the summer season has allowed Virgin Voyages to offer seven-night voyages every week during the season out of both Barcelona and Piraeus, Greece (the port for Athens) — a first for the line.

For 2024, Scarlet Lady will be based in Barcelona (taking the place of Valiant Lady), offering two western Mediterranean itineraries that mostly focus on stops in Spain and France. Specifically, one will spend most of its time at the Spanish islands of Mallorca and Ibiza along with stops in Marseille and Cannes in France, while the other features stops in Ibiza; the French island of Corsica; Toulon, France; and the port for Carrara, Italy.

Resilient Lady will continue to be based in Piraeus, alternating between eastern Mediterranean itineraries that focus on the Greek islands and the Croatian coast, respectively.

The Greek Islands itinerary, called Greek Island Glow, includes stops at Santorini, Rhodes and Mykonos, as well as a visit to Bodrum, Turkey.

As with Virgin's Bahamas and Caribbean itineraries, its Mediterranean itineraries are specifically designed for fun-seeking travelers looking for a late-night experience.

In the case of the Greek Islands sailings, Resilient Lady's Santorini visit is a day call that continues until 10 p.m. The Mykonos stop on the same sailing is an overnight call, with the ship remaining in port until 2 p.m. on the day after it arrives.

The Croatian coast-focused itinerary, called Adriatic Sea and Greek Gems, also includes several late-night stops. The ship stays in Split and Dubrovnik in Croatia until 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., respectively. A call at Corfu, Greece, lasts until 9 p.m.

Australia and New Zealand

voyages 5 destinations

The first Virgin Voyages sailings to Australia and New Zealand on the line's new Resilient Lady will begin this winter. After its initial summer cruising in the Mediterranean, the vessel will reposition to Australia in December for a series of 11 sailings ranging from five to 14 nights.

Among them will be round-trip sailings out of Melbourne, Australia, as well as one-way trips between Melbourne and Auckland, New Zealand. Itineraries include:

  • Aussie MerMaiden: a five-night cruise out of Melbourne with stops at Hobart and Burnie in Tasmania, plus one sea day
  • Resilient New Year's Pacific Ahoy: a 14-night cruise from Melbourne to Auckland with stops at Hobart and Burnie in Tasmania; Sydney; and Tauranga, Napier and Picton in New Zealand, as well as five sea days
  • Tasman Sea, Fjords and Maori Shores: an 11-night cruise from Auckland to Melbourne with stops at Tauranga, Dunedin and Christ Church in New Zealand, and Hobart and Burnie in Tasmania, plus four sea days

A pair of one-way, 15-night trips between Singapore and Australia will bookend the Australia and New Zealand sailings. Scheduled for November 2023 and March 2024, the two sailings offer overnight stays in Bali and calls at Airlie Beach, Cairns and Darwin in Australia.

Transatlantic

voyages 5 destinations

The expansion of Virgin Voyages sailings in the Bahamas and Caribbean this year meant the line could send more ships back and forth between Europe and North America than in the past. That's created an expanded lineup of so-called "repositioning" cruises across the Atlantic that feature many sea days.

Among the transatlantic sailings on the line's schedule for 2024 are:

  • A 14-night voyage from Miami to Barcelona departing April 21, 2024, that includes 10 sea days plus stops at Madeira, Malaga and Palma de Mallorca. The voyage will take place on Scarlet Lady.
  • A 16-night voyage from Civitavecchia (the port for Rome) to Miami departing Nov. 28, 2024, that includes 11 sea days plus stops at Barcelona, Malaga, Madeira and Santa Cruz in the Canary Islands. The voyage also will take place on Scarlet Lady.

Bottom line

Virgin Voyages is still a relatively small line with just three ships, and that means it can't offer too big a range of itineraries. But with at least one more vessel joining its fleet over the coming year, its destination offerings are growing.

The brand has the broadest array of options in the Bahamas and Caribbean, where it got its start, and is rapidly expanding in Europe. Sailings in Australia and New Zealand are just beginning this coming winter.

Virgin Voyages, the adult-only cruise line launched by Richard Branson, will soon add 19 new ports and 27 new itineraries to its offerings. They include a return to the UK, new ports of call in Australia, and new ports in the Caribbean as well, Virgin Voyages announced .

“Our loyal sailors have been asking for more places to visit with us, so we’re delivering in a big way by announcing new ports, new itineraries, and more local and immersive experiences to create unforgettable getaways,” Michelle Bentubo, senior vice president of Service Excellence and Travel Operations at Virgin Voyages, said in a statement . “From Morocco to Mooloolaba, Australia; Amsterdam to Bordeaux, France; and Catania, Sicily, to Port Douglas, Australia, we now offer more than 120 incredible places you can explore aboard our award-winning ships you know and love.”

Here’s a quick look at the destinations and the ships calling on them.

Resilient Lady

After returning from her inaugural season in Australia, Resilient Lady, the cruise line’s newest ship, will sail three itineraries from May through July 2024 from her homeport in Athens. They include the Greek Island Glow cruise to the islands of Santorini and Mykonos, and the Adriatic Sea and Greek Gems cruise along Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast.

Then in August, the ship will begin sailing from Portsmouth, England, to destinations such as Le Verdon (Bordeaux), France; La Coruna and Bilbao, Spain; Amsterdam; and Bruges, Belgium.

The ship will then move to Barcelona with two repositioning sailings visiting a new Virgin port in Morocco before embarking on a Barcelona-to-Athens cruise with a maiden call in Catania, Sicily.

Resilient Lady will then set off on a 44-night repositioning cruise from Athens to Australia in October 2024. That itinerary will include stops in Dubai, Mumbai, Singapore, and Bali as well as Australian ports in Broome, Albany, Adelaide, Newcastle, Mooloolaba, Port Douglas, Brisbane, Eden, and Kangaroo Island.

Valiant Lady

Valiant Lady will start her 2023 winter season with a return from Barcelona on October 29, 2023, and then begin a series of Caribbean cruises from Miami.

From January through March 2024, she will operate out of San Juan, Puerto Rico, offering two southern Caribbean voyages originally scheduled for sister ship Brilliant Lady .

Finally, when sister ship Scarlet Lady heads into dry dock in 2024, Valiant Lady will take her place beginning in April 2024. Departing from Miami, Valiant Lady will continue to offer Scarlet’s four- and five-night Caribbean rotations.

Scarlet Lady

From May to October 2024, Scarlet Lady will sail a number of cruises in the Mediterranean Sea.

Then, on November 3, 2024, Scarlet Lady will embark on an 11-night repositioning voyage from Barcelona to Civitavecchia, the port for Rome. Along the way, the ship will stop at the islands of Mallorca, Corsica, and Sardinia.

After a short period in dry dock, Scarlet Lady will embark on a 16-night Transatlantic voyage from Rome to Miami. This new itinerary includes calls in Funchal (Madeira, Portugal) as well as Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain.

Finally, after arriving in Miami on December 14, 2024, Scarlet Lady will begin a series of six- and eight-night cruises from Miami. They include stays in San Juan and a day-trip to St. Croix.

The 5 best destinations you can visit on a Disney Cruise Line ship

I s a voyage on a Disney Cruise Line ship on your bucket list? You'll find a growing number of options when it comes time to pick an itinerary.

While the cruising arm of Disney has long focused mostly on voyages to the Caribbean and the Bahamas, with year-round sailings to those destinations out of Florida, it also now offers a relatively wide range of seasonal sailings to Alaska, the Mexican Riviera, Bermuda, Europe and Canada.

The family-friendly cruise brand, notably, is expanding its footprint worldwide as it adds four new vessels in quick succession.

For more cruise news, guides and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Already, the first of those ships, the 2,508-passenger Disney Wish , has arrived, boosting the size of the Disney fleet from four ships to five and allowing for more departures to the Caribbean, Mexico and Europe.

Two more sister vessels to Disney Wish are due to begin sailing in 2024 and 2025, respectively, allowing for further expansion in Disney cruise itineraries. In addition, the line has yet another new vessel coming in 2025 that isn't related to the other three. Called Disney Adventure, it's a one-off vessel originally designed for an Asian line , and it'll sail in Asia (perhaps catering mostly to Asian travelers; Disney has been mum so far on the target audience for it).

All these new ships arriving in quick succession will likely mean not just more departures to destinations where Disney Cruise Line is established but also sailings in new regions. For example, Disney has never before offered Asia sailings.

Here are our picks for the five best Disney cruise destinations you can visit with your family.

Caribbean and Bahamas

Disney Cruise Line's top destination has always been the Caribbean and the Bahamas. Since its founding more than two decades ago, the brand has based the bulk of its fleet in Florida to offer sailings to the islands. Port Canaveral, which is just an hour away from Disney's Orlando-area theme parks, has always been its biggest hub.

The line is particularly known for three- and four-night cruises out of Port Canaveral to Castaway Cay and Nassau in the Bahamas. These short getaways let families get a taste of Disney cruising that some Disney fans pair with a stay at Disney World.

The cruise line also regularly offers seven-night sailings out of Port Canaveral that visit Caribbean islands like St. Thomas and Tortola.

Related: First look at Disney Wish in photos

In recent years, Disney has also built up its Caribbean and Bahamas cruise offerings from other ports in Florida — initially Miami and, more recently, Fort Lauderdale. The ships the line has based in these ports typically offer four- and five-night sailings to Castaway Cay and one other port, such as Cozumel or Grand Cayman.

In addition, Disney is offering a growing number of Caribbean sailings out of Galveston, Texas, and New Orleans.

For 2024, the line will have four of its five ships — Disney Wish, Disney Dream, Disney Magic and Disney Fantasy — sailing to the Bahamas and Caribbean out of one of the above ports, with their home bases often shifting between them.

Disney Wish, which is Disney's newest ship, will be based in Port Canaveral year-round to operate the line's classic three- and four-night sailings to the Bahamas. These voyages are designed to be paired with a visit to nearby Disney World for a longer Disney vacation.

Disney Fantasy will also sail out of Port Canaveral to the Bahamas and Caribbean year-round, offering longer voyages.

Disney Dream will spend the start and the end of the year sailing short trips to the Bahamas and Caribbean out of Fort Lauderdale, with a stint in the middle of the year (from May to October) sailing in Europe.

Disney Magic will take Disney Dream's place sailing short trips to the Bahamas and Caribbean out of Fort Lauderdale from May to October. During the early and late months of the year, it'll sail out of Galveston.

Come 2025, Disney will have four ships — Disney Fantasy, Disney Wish, Disney Dream and Disney Magic — sailing three- to five-night getaways from Florida to the line's Bahamian destinations, including its new private beach destination Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point and its long-open private island Disney Castaway Cay. Disney Fantasy and Disney Wish will operate the trips from Port Canaveral, while Disney Dream and Disney Magic will sail from Fort Lauderdale.

Before taking up residence in Florida in April 2025, Disney Magic will also offer three months' worth of sailings out of Galveston, Texas, to Progreso and Cozumel in Mexico and Grand Cayman.

All of the 2025 sailings are already open for bookings.

Disney has cut back on voyages out of San Diego for 2024, after increasing its San Diego departures sharply in 2023. But it still offers several trips to Mexico out of the city on Disney Wonder.

For 2024, the 1,754-passenger vessel will offer a mix of three- to seven-night sailings to Mexico during March and April. Shorter three- and four-night sailings typically feature calls at Ensenada, Mexico, and California's Catalina Island. Seven-night sailings include calls at Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta in Mexico.

Related: 11 ways to save money on a Disney cruise

The big factor driving Disney's cutbacks on sailings out of San Diego in 2024 is its new focus on voyages out of Australian ports. Disney Wonder will spend much of January and February sailing out of Australian ports and then return to the region in October for another season of Australia trips.

Disney offers a wide variety of itineraries in Europe every summer, from Mediterranean voyages out of Barcelona and Civitavecchia, Italy (the port for Rome), to Northern Europe sailings out of Southampton, England.

Ranging from seven to 11 nights, Disney's Europe voyages each year typically take place on a single ship that sails from multiple home ports throughout the season. For 2024, that ship will be the 2,500-passenger Disney Dream. The line has yet to announce which of its ships will go to Europe in 2025.

Typical for the shorter itineraries the line offers in Europe are seven-night sailings out of Civitavecchia to the Greek Islands. These sailings stop in Mykonos, Santorini and Crete in Greece, as well as Naples, Italy.

Related: 17 tips for sailing on Disney Cruise Line

A longer, 11-night itinerary starting in Civitavecchia and ending in Barcelona includes calls at Piraeus (the port for Athens), Santorini and Mykonos in Greece; Messina (on the island of Sicily), Naples and Livorno in Italy; and Toulon, France.

Among Northern Europe itineraries, Disney offers focused, weeklong sailings to Norway with calls at the Norwegian ports of Alesund, Nordfjordeid, Eidfjord and Stavanger.

Disney does not have a large presence in Alaska. The line sends just one ship to Alaska each year. Family-friendly cruise rivals Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line, by contrast, each send three ships to Alaska each year, and Norwegian Cruise Line sends five vessels to the destination.

Still, Disney fans won't feel like they're missing out. The one vessel Disney sends to Alaska each year, the 1,754-passenger Disney Wonder, stays for nearly the entire summer season, from late June to mid-September and offers a distinctly Disney take on The Last Frontier.

Always beginning and ending in Vancouver, British Columbia, and lasting seven nights, Disney's Alaska sailings typically include stops at three of these four Alaska ports: Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan and Icy Strait Point (which three vary by departure date). Itineraries also include a visit to Stikine Icecap, which is south of Juneau.

Related: 5 reasons Disney cruises aren't just for kids

These are fairly typical ports for an Alaska cruise. But the (extra-charge) activities that Disney has organized for the ports aren't always the same as what other lines offer.

As one might expect for Disney, the line has crafted some of its shore excursions in Alaska ports with special Disney touches, such as Disney character appearances at the Liarsville Gold Rush Trail Camp & Salmon Bake tour in Ketchikan. (Having done this one myself, I will say, for the record, that it's a little hokey; but it does get you a Disney character fix if that's your aim.)

Another shore excursion with a Disney touch is the outdoor Family Scavenger Hunt at Icy Strait Point, where participants join a local guide on a hunt for items such as clam shells and native plants, as well as a "special surprise" with a Disney theme.

Unlike many lines, Disney does not offer one-way sailings to Alaska from Vancouver or Seattle that can be paired with add-on land tours to create an extended sea-and-land Alaska vacation — something known as a "cruisetour." If that's what you're looking for, and you want to stick with a family-friendly line, you might want to consider the one-way cruisetour offerings from Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line.

Related: The ultimate Alaska cruise guide

Disney typically offers at least one and sometimes several cruises to Bermuda each fall, ranging from quick, five-night trips to longer, eight-night sailings.

For the year just ending (2023), the line offered four such sailings, and it's offered even more than that in certain years. Alas, for the coming year (2024), Disney currently does not have a single Bermuda sailing scheduled — a bit of an anomaly.

That said, we would expect Disney to bring back its Bermuda sailings for 2025 or 2026. It's been such a mainstay of the brand.

So ... stay tuned.

Bottom line

Family-friend Disney Cruise Line is a relatively small cruise brand, with just five ships (one of its biggest rivals in the family cruise market, Royal Caribbean, has 26 vessels). But that doesn't mean its itinerary choices are limited. The line offers regular sailings to the Caribbean and Bahamas, Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Bermuda and Europe.

5 can’t-miss destinations across minnesota’s north shore.

Minnesota is also known as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes."

While Minneapolis draws visitors in droves thanks to its thriving drinking and dining scene, nature lovers and outdoor adventurers alike can find a truly spectacular array of attractions across Minnesota’s North Shore. Spanning just under 250 kilometers along Lake Superior, this scenic stretch of coastline is rife with cozy communities and spectacular natural preserves, with no shortage of top-tier restaurants and breweries to discover along the way. With summer on the horizon, there’s no better time than the present to plan a nature-filled foray into the picturesque reaches of northern Minnesota.

Duluth was named in honor of French explorer Daniel Greysolon, Sieur du Lhut.

Serving as the jumping-off point for a road trip along Minnesota’s North Shore, Duluth is home to the busiest port in all of the Great Lakes—and all of that constant commerce has fostered a thriving drinking and dining scene along its shores. After a lengthy birdwatching session along the Duluth Lakewalk, Duluth Grill is a top lunch spot thanks to its massive menu that’s packed with hearty comfort food dishes. Options span from cinnamon roll French toast to fried chicken melts to barbacoa tacos around here, and as an added bonus, the nearby Canal Park Brewing Company is just a few steps away, providing guests with an opportunity to sample fresh craft beer like the toffee-reminiscent Nut Hatchet brown ale and the hearty Stoned Surf IPA.

Cascade River State Park is a popular attraction for visitors to Lutsen.

While Lutsen is home to just over 500 residents, this tiny community offers a wealth of high-end attractions for visitors to enjoy. Just north of the Lake Superior coast, Lutsen Mountains draws visitors in droves all throughout the year, with more than 400 hectares of land set aside for wintertime downhill skiing—but for those hoping to bask in the true splendor of the Minnesota wilderness, an autumn trip is tough to beat. During a voyage on the Summit Express gondola, guests can marvel at the crisp fall foliage from more than 300 meters in the air, while the nearby North Shore Winery has earned abundant acclaim for its gorgeous interior and wealth of high-end wines, serving as the perfect spot for toasting to a successful day with a glass of Boundary Waters Red.

WhatsApp Brand New iPhone Feature Just Launched That’s Much Easier To Use

New apple id password reset issue hitting iphone ipad and macbook users, messi blocks fc barcelona star from joining inter miami reports el nacional, grand marais.

Grand Marais translates to "Great Marsh" in English.

Once a prominent hub for fur trading, Grand Marais has morphed into a top-tier tourist destination thanks to its picturesque scenery and many boutique shops. Upon arrival, visitors are welcome to pay a visit to The Fisherman’s Daughter —a cozy shoreside venue that’s known for its stellar fish and chips—or make their way to Voyageur Brewing Company , a charming spot that’s perfect for an order of cheese curds paired with a Brule River blonde ale. During the dead of night, Grand Marais visitors can embark on a fascinating journey with Low Light Experiences —a local tour company that offers night hiking and stargazing excursions—but for those hoping for a deep dive on the North Shore’s storied culture, the North House Folk School is an essential spot. Established in 1997, this organization offers a massive array of courses focusing on blacksmithing, boatbuilding, weaving and a wealth of other topics.

Devil Track Lake

Common loons are often spotted along the surface of Devil Track Lake.

Minnesota is renowned for its high concentration of lakes, and for those hoping to spend a few days at the water’s edge, Devil Track Lake is a particularly charming spot. Located just north of Grand Marais, this idyllic water feature is a particularly popular camping and kayaking destination, but for those who prefer to spend their visit lounging in luxury, Skyport Lodge is the perfect place. In addition to cozy cottages and an on-site restaurant stocked with fresh craft beer and decadent American fare, this scenic getaway also offers an ideal relaxation opportunity in the form of the Sisu + Löyly floating sauna. The only public floating sauna in the nation, this picturesque wooden structure provides guests with an opportunity to crank up the heat for 50 minutes before taking the plunge into Devil Track Lake.

Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness

The name "Boundary Waters" refers to a sprawling region of wilderness that's shared between Canada ... [+] and the United States as well as the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

Measuring in at a staggering 4,400 square kilometers, the Boundary Waters shine a spotlight on the abundant beauty found in the most remote reaches of northern Minnesota. Before setting off on the water, visitors can swing by the rustic Gunflint Lodge for a hearty breakfast, then make their way to the water’s edge to set off on a curated day tour across the surrounding preserve. For novice canoers, the Rose Falls journey offers spectacular scenery and provides insight into the art of portaging—a time-honored method of carrying a vessel over land—but no matter which excursion you choose, it’s certain to be filled with a wide array of fascinating native species, with common loons, river otters and even the occasional moose making an appearance throughout the Boundary Waters.

LSU Transfer Hailey Van Lith Officially Announces Transfer Destination

Van Lith will head to Fort Worth to finish her college career, join the Horned Frogs of TCU.

  • Author: Zack Nagy

In this story:

Former LSU guard Hailey Van Lith has officially revealed her transfer portal destination after a three week stint in the free agent market.

Van Lith is headed to the Big 12 where she will join a TCU Horned Frogs program that is quickly piecing together a competitive roster.

There were reports over a week ago that Van Lith would join the program, but she shut down rumors stating that she hadn't put pen to paper just yet.

"I did take a visit to TCU and am very interested in them, but I took visits to other schools and was very interested in them too," Van Lith told The AP last week. "I haven't made an official commitment, but I'm very close. The ink has not touched the paper for any school."

Now, the ink has dried and Van Lith has made her announcement. She will head to TCU for her final season of eligibility.

The former Louisville star, who took America by storm with her elite-level scoring ability, hit the market once again after transferring to LSU a season ago.

After a disappointing lone season in Baton Rouge, the former All-America honorable mention became a coveted name on the market for her final season of eligibility. Van Lith will exercise her COVID year after already playing four seasons of college ball.

A prominent figure in the NIL space, Van Lith is the face of the Adidas women's basketball campaign, and will certainly draw attention to TCU.

She decided not to enter the WNBA Draft while electing to remain in college. A player who believes she has the intangibles to succeed at the next level, she looked for a program that will allow her to be her on the floor and boost her draft stock once again.

“You have to kind of look at what type of player you are,” Van Lith said. “There’s some people that have to capitalize in college because they’re not a pro-type player. Their likability is going to stay in college. And I think for me, that’s not the case. I’m a pro-type player. The deals will follow, like Angel said. The one downfall is visibility. And the amount of times we play on ESPN and ABC and all these major television channels, that becomes a lot less when you go to the WNBA where it’s at right now. You’re not going to be in the media as much, but from a brand aspect, as long as you do what you need to do and keep up that part of your life, then brands, they’re going to follow you when you go to the league.”

The decision to transfer to TCU comes as a surprise to many after she took an official visit to Mississippi State two weeks ago.

Van Lith linked up with former Louisville assistant Sam Purcell, who is now the current head coach of the Bulldogs.

The former LSU guard went up to Starkville to check out the campus, attend a softball game and more, a source told LSU Country.

Now, Van Lith has decided to take her talents elsewhere after reports surfaced of her decision to transfer to TCU.

Van Lith will have an opportunity to boost her WNBA draft stock next season as she looks to get back to her old form as a high-level scorer in the college game.
