Robert Pickering Burnham (born August 21st, 1990), better known simply as Bo Burnham, is an American comedian, singer and songwriter. He hails from Hamilton, Massachusetts.

Burnham is one of the success stories of the YouTube generation, having uploaded a couple of comedic songs about teenage angst to the website in 2006. Originally, they went practically unnoticed, but became sensationally popular once they were shared on the then-popular website Break.com; so much so, in fact, that YouTube itself - then relatively fledgling by way of comparison the staple of the internet that it is today - struggled to cope with the incredibly sharp overnight upturn in traffic. Burnham continued to upload content alongside his university studies, but was eventually forced to put the latter on hold in 2008 when his career within the media made it impossible to juggle the two.

Since then, his status as both a comedian and a musician has continued to grow steadily; as far as the latter interest is concerned, he’s released three comedy album - a self-titled effort in 2009, the follow-up ‘Words Words Words’ in 2010 and his latest, ‘what.’ in 2013, which tied in with a stand-up video special that made it to Netflix. ‘Words Words Words’ kept the music and the stand-up on separate discs, but the other records have blended them - Burnham’s ability to incorporate both styles is fast becoming his signature.

Live reviews

Bo Burnham’s is one of the funniest and most original comedians to have entered the comedy scene in a while. Although he performs standup, most of his material consists of comedic songs, which often encompasses taboo subjects such as race, gender, and religion.

Bo Burnham started his career as an internet sensation by posting his songs on youtube, which soon went viral after his post. Since then he has perfected his craft touring across the world and participating in many prestigious comedy festivals such as Montreal Just For Laughs. He also appeared on Comedy Central Presents in 2009 making him the youngest person to have performed on the show. His songs are often sung in a very fast manner, packing in jokes at rapid speed. The jokes in the songs often use puns and are heavily based on wordplay. Perhaps the reason why Bo Burnham is so funny is because of the authenticity of the material. Bo Burnham’s material is never presented in a macho way, but he relies on his self-deprecatory style of delivery to make his jokes stand out.

Bo Burnham often purposefully develops a pretentious, snooty stage persona in order to divide himself from his comedy. Some of his more recent shows have incorporated more abstract and unconventional methods of performing such as using pre-recorded material of himself, which engages him when he is on stage. Since Bo Burnham comes from a theatrical background it is of no surprise that he incorporates a more physical and scripted aspect to his performance.

When attending a Bo Burnham performance you can expect a little bit of everything that has made him such a well-respected comedian. He will perform jokes using the more traditional format of stand-up delivery, he will engage you in some of his hilarious songs, and he will present comedy in a more abstract theatrical performance.

Bo Burnham has once again managed to create an amazing and unforgettable show! I laughed harder than I have in a long time and I enjoyed the show more than any other I have been to. Bo has absolutely earned my respect and adoration as a comic and social critic who has a unique view of the world and society. He is not afraid to tackle social issues, the flaws in pop culture, and the pressure and expectations placed on him in a way that is accessible and makes you think while still providing a show that never fails to make you laugh. It is rare to find someone who is as witty, intelligent, and funny as he is that haves you leaving the show happy but also thinking about the deeper issues he talked about and the meanings of what he has said. It is an experience that you cannot get anywhere else and some of the things he has said have given me a completely new outlook on issues in life. Bo never ceases to amaze and I absolutely look forward to seeing his show again as soon as possible. I would absolutely say that the show was perfect.

His personality and genius shine through at his live shows. Watching his specials, he's seems calculated and has the elegance of someone way beyond his years. But at his live show, I sort of realized that he doesn't have any idea what he's doing -- in the best way. At some points I realized I was just watching an absurdly talented kid doing things that he thought were funny in an unapologetic way. He's a genuine artist, and his live show felt like a concert and a standup show and a performance art piece all mixed into one. It was very, very funny!

This show was amazing! It was a small theater, so the show had a great, personal feel. There was a little heckling, but Bo took it in great stride and actually used those moments and others involving the audience to create even more humor.

The sound was great, but at certain times, the music did drown out the vocals a little bit. It's to be expected in such a small theater, but was otherwise superb. The lights were spectacular, and the cues were perfectly executed.

Overall, the show was amazing. I would definitely go again!

The show was amazing! It was the best concert thing I've ever been to! Shouting out "I love you Bo!" And him replying "no you don't." Was pretty funny! I wasn't ex him to be so tall! He even dissed missouri by saying we stole barbecue (we all groaned so loud it made him laugh and he said that was the loudest groan he's got all tour!)! He also had us crack our knuckles at the same time! The sound was disgusting but awesome at the same time! It was a blast and couldn't ha been better!

The concert itself was great! Great set with some amazing new material :D I especially liked his "country song" and the one about finding true love. The only issue was it being all-ages and there being some reaaaaally rowdy young people at the venue. They were so loud that there were even times where Bo had stopped the show and even one of his songs because of people yelling out. He was cool about it though and handled it well. A real class-act. I would definitely watch him again.

I usually never write reviews for anyone, but Bo deserved one. This was hands down the best show I've ever been to, and everything that he said influenced me immensely. The experience was surreal, and Bo was able to find a healthy medium between comedy and introspection. I commend him on everything he did, and I hope with all of my might he returns to Las Vegas again.

10/10 Bo Burnham is a genius and has an incredible amount of talent! I cried from laughing so hard. The opener was really funny too! I was in the front row and there was a time when all I could see was light then Bo came out of that light. Pretty sure he's God.

normalbl0ws’s profile image

Bo was hilarious and amazing as always! I will definitely go to see him next time he's in Milwaukee. The show wasn't complete, but he made up for it by playing some of his hits that the whole house knew and with some witty banter with the audience.

Will Bo Burnham Ever Tour Again? Social Media Break Gives Rise to Rumors

Bo Burnham's social media break lights up fan rumors about his potential tour.

will bo burnham tour again

Is bo burnham going on tour fans think so, bo burnham previously shared his struggles on stage, when was bo burnham's last tour.

Will Bo Burnham ever tour again? The American comedian recently changed his profile pictures on his social media platforms, and though he has yet to comment on it, fans think he might be announcing something big soon.

Burnham is best known as the viral Vine creator who directed and wrote the 2018 flick, Eighth Grade .

He also had his own Netflix special, Bo Burnham: Inside , win 3 Primetime Emmys due to its timely message in the early days of the COVID pandemic.

On January 17 this year, Bo Burnham deleted his posts and changed his profile icon, as well as the background photo on all his social media platforms to one specific image: the sea and the horizon.

Since fans seem to think that Burnham is following the trend of how celebrities delete and rebrand their social media before making big announcements, they appear to be convinced that the comedian may be prepping for another incoming tour:

In a 2021 interview, Bo Burnham told Tim Box the reason why he stopped holding tours for two years since his 60-show tour from May to June 2018.

Burnham not only shared his vulnerability of how different his panic attacks felt compared to the ones that were shown in media but also the reason behind why he wouldn't want to hold his tours again.

Burnham added he had three panic attacks in the four shows he had to do in 2018, which he described as "the worst time of my life."

The comedian admitted that he would ask himself if he would want to go through it again, to which Burnham said, "For me, it was no, and I stopped doing it for two years because of that reason."

Despite what he said, will Bo Burnham tour again?

Burnham's last time touring was back in August 2021, when he shared the West Hollywood stage at Largo at the Coronet alongside Phoebe Bridgers, Marshall Vore, and Harrison Whitford.

So, is it possible that Bo Burnham is teasing an upcoming tour?

It is worth mentioning that the anticipation for his "big announcement" has yet to be confirmed by Burn himself or his representatives.

So, we'll have to wait and see when he plans on updating his fans about his current status.

The most that fans can do for now is speculate on what Burnham is planning this 2024, and as of writing, the reason for his disappearance online remains unknown and uncertain.

Bo Burnham Takes Us Deeper Inside in The Inside Outtakes

bo burnham tour germany

By Chris Murphy

Bo Burnham is still stuck Inside …sort of. One year after releasing his Emmy-winning Netflix comedy special , Inside, the comedian is back with more musings and jokes from the belly of the pandemic with his latest comedic offering, The Inside Outtakes .

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

“A year ago today, I released a special called inside,” tweeted Burnham on Sunday. “I’ve spent the last two months editing together material that i shot for the special but didn’t end up using. it will be on my youtube channel in one hour. i hope you enjoy it.”

Without further ado, Burnham presented The Inside Outtakes —an hour-long special of sorts comprised of various bits and snippets that, for whatever reason, didn’t make the cut the first time. Rest assured: It’s not because they’re any less funny or biting than the material that did make his impressive yet slightly recursive special. In The Inside Outtakes, Burnham displays the same sharp cultural criticism paired with an unflinching look at his own depression and precarious mental state during the height of the pandemic.

Burnham gets back to his roots with The Inside Outtakes, eschewing Netflix for YouTube—the platform that made him an internet sensation when he was just 16 years old. He presents the material complete with fake ad breaks, including commercials for jeans (“Jeans don’t read the news…jeans are jeans”) and a Google-esque missive for would-be content creators where his only advice is to “be yourself” (but if that doesn’t work, then “be somebody else”).

A year out from Inside and a year closer to a return to “normalcy,” the depths of Burnham’s mind—and the effort and care with which he put into the special—are still somewhat alarming. With a little space from the belly of the pandemic, it’s unnerving to be dropped back into the psyche of someone who hasn’t left their apartment in multiple months. While the original special was impressive in how professional it looked for something ostensibly made by one trapped man, The Outtakes shows exactly how painstaking it was for Burnham to achieve that goal. Burnham shows the dozens of takes it took to achieve the final versions of songs like “Content,” “White Woman’s Instagram,” and “Bezos,” often displaying multiple takes of the same moment simultaneously.

Burnham is also unafraid to lampoon the one-man-band aspect of Inside —including a sketch in The Outtakes where he’s the host of a talk show that interviews the special’s director, writer, star, editor, and even hair and makeup people. The twist, of course, is that they’re all him. On the panel, Burnham asks himself why there were no women or people of color involved in the making of Inside. “Thank you for asking this question,” says one of the Burnhams after a long pause. “If you hadn’t asked this question, I was gonna to ask you to ask this question, because it’s so important.”

The multiple Burnhams nod along as Burnham gives a convoluted nonanswer to explain the lack of diversity in his solo project. “We could and would and should have done better,” he continues, “and we have and am and shall continue to have done and did and do. Our doing isn’t done and our doneing isn’t did, okay? So know that.”

Often, The Inside Outtakes feels more personal and “real” than Inside. While Burnham’s initial offering provided an intimate look at his psyche, at times it felt like it skirted the actual circumstances of his life. (Burnham doesn’t actually live alone in a single room, for instance.) This time, though, it’s different. The new video includes a Drake -esque bop called “Five Years,” apparently about his long-term relationship with director Lorene Scafaria. “Okay, for the record, you owe me a dumpling. I mean it, I won’t forget,” Burnham sings to his fictional partner, after she takes one from his plate without asking. “You owe me a dumpling or a dumpling equivalent.”

In Inside, Burnham takes a loose, comedic look at his origin story as a viral teen in the song “Problematic.” In The Inside Outtakes, though, he goes a step further, sitting down and watching one of his old YouTube videos. “Since I started out so young, basically every shitty joke, every sort of misstep is…there’s a lot of material I’m just really embarrassed by and makes me cringe for a lot of reasons,” he says during “YouTube Kid.”

“Yeah, it doesn’t hold up,” he continues. “I often wish that I could just, you know, start over. But I also know if I didn’t have that material, I wouldn’t be who I am today. Or who I was before I locked myself in this room and lost my mind.”

For the many obsessed with Inside, The Inside Outtakes will be a vital look into Burnham’s madness and genius. For those, like myself, who liked Inside but longed for something more personal and authentic, The Inside Outtakes breaks the cycle of Inside —and like the chicken from The Outtakes ’ final musical offering, actually gets to the other side.

Every bo burnham stand-up comedy special & where to watch.

Where are the best places to stream Bo Burnham's comedy specials? Here's a guide for all five shows that are currently available online.

Where can you watch the many  Bo  Burnham  comedy specials? In May 2021, Bo Burnham saw a resurgence of popularity when he released his timely lockdown-themed comedy special,  Bo Burnham: Inside .  The special was entirely produced by Burnham and tapped into the prevalent issues of anxiety and isolation that so many people have had to face as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic. As well as appealing to his previously established fanbase,  Inside has also encouraged many new Netflix watchers to seek out his past work.

Bo Burnham's career started when he gained traction on YouTube with self-produced videos as a teenager during the mid-late 2000s. His debut comedy album,  Bo Fo Sho , came in 2008 and led to three additional releases with Comedy Central Records. As well as producing comedy albums and specials, Burnham has appeared in several mainstream movies that include Funny People , Hall Pass , and The Big Sick. All of these movies helped to lay the groundwork for his own directorial debut with the 2018 movie  Eighth Grade , which was released to critical acclaim.

While YouTube celebrity is starting to become synonymous with controversy in the public consciousness, Burnham has earned a large following and remained popular many years after his breakout YouTube releases. His brand of self-aware comedy continues to appeal to a wide range of audiences and he has worked on productions for big-name peers in his industry such as Jerrod Carmichael and Chris Rock. Here is where to watch all of Bo Burnham's comedy specials .

Comedy Central Presents (2009)

Where to watch  Comedy Central Presents: Bo Burnham :  Burnham's first comedy special, Comedy Central Presents: Bo Burnham , can be watched on Comedy Central, Paramount+, and Amazon's Prime Video Channels. Wearing a tie-dye shirt, Burnham begins the 20-minute set with a performance of his popular YouTube song "My Whole Family Thinks I'm Gay," and shifts into a self-deprecating hip-hop bit that displays his lyrical skills. Released in 2009,  Comedy Central Presents: Bo Burnham highlights the comic's awkward charm and knack for clever wordplay.

Words, Words, Words (2010)

Where to watch Bo Burnham's Words, Words, Words :   Like  Comedy Central Presents: Bo Burnham ,  Words, Words, Words can be streamed on Comedy Central, Paramount+, and Amazon's Prime Video streaming platform .  Words, Words, Words marks Burnham's first hour-long special. The comic takes the stage at Boston's House of Blues on May 21, 2010, and shuffles up the act by performing with various musical instruments and mimicking the styles of traditional stand-up comedians. Burnham returns to his piano for the final 10 minutes, offering musical commentaries about misogyny, gay panic, and fiscal responsibilities.

What. (2013)

Where to watch Bo Burnham's  What. :  Released in 2013, What.  was made available to watch on both Netflix and Bo Burnham's personal YouTube channel and is still available in both places. Burnham's one-hour special kicks off with home video footage, and later includes a Broadway-style performance element during the opening act. The 22-year-old comedian sticks to his usual comedic style by performing on a piano and even reading book passages to the audience. By the finale, Burnham's live show incorporates slick audio design for jokes about masculinity, sexuality, and millennial culture.

Make Happy (2016)

Where to watch Bo Burnham's  Make Happy :  In 2016, Bo Burnham teamed up with Netflix to record and produce his first Netflix Comedy Special,  Make Happy , which can still be streamed on Netflix's platform. The comedian once again makes jokes about sexuality and being a straight white male, but adds more depth to the act and demonstrates his impressive ability to engage with audiences through timely humor. Burnham also co-directed Make Happy , a special that thematically foreshadows his 2017 feature directorial debut,  Eighth Grade .

Inside (2021)

Where to watch Bo Burnham's  Inside :  While  Inside still released on Netflix , Bo Burnham's latest comedy special was produced entirely by Burnham during the COVID-19 lockdown. Bo Burnham's inside can currently be streamed on Netflix. The comic addresses topics such as depression and signal-boosting, all the while acknowledging his personal struggles while under quarantine at his home.  Inside highlights the evolution of Bo Burnham as a filmmaker, and also suggests that he's one of the most innovative comedians to emerge from the early days of YouTube.
