The  BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN TOURISM MANAGEMENT Major in Travel Operations and Service Management  program covers the study of various components focusing on the management, operations, and service delivery relevant to the travel and tourism industry. Right now, we’re not aware of any programs that would automatically qualify a graduate of any particular school for a position at Philippine Airlines. From what we have seen from job advertisements in the past, companies don’t require applicants to be a graduate of any particular course or school as long as they meet the company’s requirements. So far, we haven’t encountered any companies that specifically require applicants to be beautiful or look a certain way. Instead, what they usually require is that applicants look presentable at all times. We haven’t encountered any clause about complexion, either. The height requirement is usually strict, though, because height can affect the attendant’s ability to perform their job. Still, if being a flight attendant is your dream, you might want to search around for companies that have lower height requirements. Requirements sometimes vary depending on the company, so it might be worth taking a shot.

If you were referring to becoming a flight attendant, some companies do have specific preferences when it comes to physical appearances. For that, we suggest you check out their job advertisements to see what their usual requirements are.

If you were simply referring to enrolling in BS Tourism Management and pursuing the whole bunch of other jobs that it may lead you to, we believe that’s not really the case, especially if your skills, qualifications, and experiences are up to their standards.

Added information lang: sa kahit anong course ng PUP ay P12 lang per Unit and as far as I know walang maintaining grades ang Tourism. Hindi po ganun kahigpit sa requirements kaya po ako nakapasok xD (2nd year tourism student na po ako sa PUP) hehe.

Nope. It includes both minor and major subjects. You can get a copy of the curriculum from the CHED website; however, it only contains the list of the recommended subjects — not necessarily the actual subjects that the school you’ll be enrolling at will require you to take — so it’s best if you’ll ask the school directly.

We’re not really sure about the “maintaining grades” part, so we suggest you ask PUP directly so they can give you a more accurate and detailed reply.

Hi, im wondering if height and looks really matter when it comes to taking BSTM, my height is 5’0 and i hope im qualified taking BSTM.

That would depend on which particular job you intend to pursue after you graduate. As far as we know, employers that are looking for tourism officers and tour escorts are not very particular with height and appearance as long as you have the skills and qualifications. Flight attendants, however, are required to meet specific height requirements and possess certain physical attributes.

I just want to know, is clear vision also a requirement?

Eligibility and Requirements

College freshman.

  • An applicant who has completed Senior High School and has not taken any college course, or
  • An applicant who has completed equivalent Secondary Education from any school abroad and has not taken any college course, or
  • A passer of Alternative Learning System (ALS) with certification of eligibility to be admitted to college.

College Transferee

  • An applicant who has taken college programs or units not more than 75% of his/her curriculum in other CHED recognized colleges or universities, or
  • An applicant who has taken college programs or units not more than 75% of his/her curriculum in colleges or universities abroad, OR
  • An applicant who has taken vocational or any special training in recognized colleges or universities abroad, OR
  • An applicant who has officially enrolled in any degree or certificate programs after High School.

Second Course Taker

  • An applicant who has completed any college degree from any CHEd recognized college or university, or
  • An applicant who has completed any college degree from college or university abroad.

Retention Policy

  • Any student under the BSHRM/BSTM program is ineligible for re-enrollment under the following:
  • Obtaining six (6) failed subjects (regardless of the number of units) at the end of any term.
  • Found guilty of commission of any major offense as defined by the Student Handbook (non-readmission, exclusion or expulsion sanction).
  • The pre-requisite subjects should be strictly followed. However, students may be allowed to simultaneously enroll in pre-requisite under the following:
  • When the pre-requisite is repeated subject and when the student is graduating at the end of the school term.
  • When it is approved by the University Registrar.
  • The NSTP & PE subjects should be completed at the first and second curriculum year.
  • All freshmen and transferees are required to complete INTRO101 and INTRO102 during the first and second semesters respectively preferably on the first curriculum year.
  • If there were only 48 academic units left before graduation,the student would still be allowed to enroll provided a de-loading of three (3) academic units (per semester) is made to allow a better academic performance during the semester.
  • De-loading of subjects (equivalent to the number of units failed) is a pre-condition for enrollment the following semester.

Bachelor of Science in International Travel and Tourism Management (BSITTM) p rovides in-depth knowledge in the fields of hospitality and tourism education . It provides the students the  opportunity to become involved in managing and planning, to work in the dynamic tourism industry and sectors like hospitality and travel and tourism. The program will give you the knowledge and understanding of how tourism businesses operate, and how tourists behave, and what impact tourism has on countries, cultures, and the environment. It also helps develop a wide range of skills that can be applied to a variety of managerial and entrepreneurial roles in the expanding tourism industry and it provides exposure to becoming globally competitive in the management of the travel, tour, and hospitality industry.

Academic Performance:

  • Associate Program: Must have no failing grades in all required courses.
  • Bachelor Program: Must have no failing grades in all required courses.
  • Successfully complete all required courses within the stipulated time frame.

Attendance:

  • Associate Program: Maintain a minimum attendance rate of 75% in classes and practical sessions.
  • Bachelor Program: Maintain a minimum attendance rate of 75% in classes and practical sessions.

Professionalism:

  • Adhere to a code of conduct that reflects professionalism in academic and practical settings.

International Tourism and Hospitality Management

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT     

The International Travel and Tourism Management Program is a Bachelor of Science Degree Program that provides foundation and specialization study in the tourism management field through academic, laboratory, and field internship experiences.  The program provides the knowledge and skills necessary for the students, ensuring that their efficiency and quality meets with the world-class tourism standard.  The program is designed in two depth areas in the tourism field operations and management, which is also to prepare students for future employment in a variety of hospitality and tourism positions in the growing tourism business.

Hotel and Restaurant Administration  

The Hotel and Restaurant Administration Program is a Bachelor of Science Degree Program that provides foundation and specialization study in the Hotel Management field through academic, laboratory, and field internship experiences.  The program provides the knowledge and skills necessary for the students to ensure efficiency and to prepare the students to be supervisors in the Hospitality industry.  The program is designed in two depth areas in the Hotel field operations and management, which is to prepare students for employment in a variety of hotel positions in the growing hotel field. 

Cruise Line Operations in Culinary Arts   

The Cruise Line Operations in Culinary Arts Program is a Bachelor of Science Degree Program that provides foundation and specialization study in the culinary arts and food service field through academic, laboratory and field internship experiences.  The Program provides the knowledge and skills necessary for the students to ensure efficiency and quality product preparation and service in the food service setting.  The program is designed in two-depth areas in the culinary field: operations and management, which is to prepare students for employment in a variety of food production and restaurant positions in the growing food service field in the cruise line industry. 

Cruise Line Operations in Hotel Services

Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM)

The program is a ladderized curriculum which provides students with specific skills and competencies to enhance their opportunities to work while studying. Students receive a Certificate in Tourism Sales and Marketing upon one year completion, an Associate in Travel and Tour Operation in the second year, a Diploma in Tourism Supervision in the third year and a Degree in Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management upon completion of the program. The Tourism Management Program covers the study of various components related to the travel and tour industry.

It encompasses technical, practical and professional learning relevant to the different pillars of tourism such as tour and travel operations, transportation, accommodation, food and beverage, events management, allied services, entertainment and recreation, tourism research and education, tourism planning and development and other tourism services necessary for the formation of the students to become well rounded and high-spirited Tourism Professionals imbued with Christian virtues, service culture and cross-cultural ethics.

Description.

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN TOURISM MANAGEMENT  is a four-year degree program related to the fields of hospitality and tourism education. It provides students the opportunity to become involved directly in managing and planning the world’s biggest people industry – tourism. This concentrates on courses such as history, travel, language, and other cultural aspects. It provides exposure and training of becoming experts in management of the travel, tour, and hospitality industry and will lead students to a journey toward a senior role in this exciting, diverse, and growing industry.

The BS Tourism Management program has two areas of specialization: (1) Major in Travel Operations and Service Management, and (2) Major in Recreation and Leisure Management.

The BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN TOURISM MANAGEMENT Major in Recreation and Leisure Management program provides an integrated study of the management and operation of recreation and leisure attractions, facilities, and services. It will also cover important components with regard to the positive use of leisure time, while traveling, engaging in recreation, recreational sport, or entertainment. The program also emphasizes learning and leadership in the recreational environment, through which students will gain strong managerial preparation. The overall learning objective of this program is to prepare the students for professional positions in the fields of recreation and tourism by cultivating a broad understanding of leisure and recreation in our society and developing strong managerial skills.

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates should be able to:

PO2. engage in meaningful collaboration, communication, and processing of information through technology to effectively perform assigned tasks in a diverse cultural environment;

PO3. apply analytical and quantitative skills to formulate business decisions, producing quality research and business outputs that respond to tourism and hospitality issues and trends compliant with the laws of the society; and

PO4. demonstrate the ability to perform basic supervisory job functions, as well as entrepreneurial competencies, manifesting Christian values, in the tour, travel, leisure and recreation, as well as hotel and restaurant careers.

In addition, graduates of BS in Tourism Management Major in Recreation and Leisure Management should be able to develop tourism sites for local and global markets, integrating the latest trends of the leisure and recreation industry while respecting ethical values of a culturally sensitive humanity (PO5-RLM).

Apart from classroom learning and industry immersions, the college also has educational tour for the students. One of the most awaited highlights of being a Tourism Management student is the exciting domestic tours in Cebu, Bohol, Palawan and international tours in South Korea, Japan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.
