Il capodanno in montagna è la destinazione, anche per quest’anno, con minore disponibilità di offerte: hotel e soprattutto residence vanno a ruba un po’ in tutto l’arco alpino, soprattutto sulle Dolomiti, sempre più apprezzate anche grazie ai moderni sistemi di innevamento artificiale, che ovviano alla scarsità di neve.

E’ possibile trovare buone offerte in Piemonte e (poco) in Valle d’Aosta , oppure nelle località minori (senza nulla togliere) del Trentino. Sempre poca la disponibilità in Appennino, ma qui dovete fare massima attenzione all’innevamento se volete sciare. Se l’offerta vi pare troppo buona, indagate sullo stato delle piste!

Probabilmente nella vostra città ci sarà almeno un centro termale che organizza la mezzanotte in acqua, ma difficilmente potrete risparmiare qualcosa.

Se i last minute si possono acquistare circa 2/3 settimane prima della partenza, i last second migliori (anzi, “veri”) sono quelli acquistati da tre giorni a qualche ora prima della partenza : spesso, proprio perché a ridosso della partenza, si fanno affari miglior che con i last minute, perché i tour operator pur di “dare via” gli ultimi pacchetti invenduti, abbassano ancora di più i prezzi.

Come abbiamo già detto all’inizio dell’articolo, cercate di diffidare di quei last minute o offerte simili camuffate da last second: si tratta di quelle vacanze scontate proposte con data di partenza non così a ridosso del 31.

Infine sappiate che anche se ormai esistono dei siti specializzati in offerte last second (vedi dopo per una lista), i veri last-second si trovano anche in aeroporto, presso appositi desk. Si arriva con la valigia già pronta, senza sapere la propria meta e ci si affida a cosa c’è (scontatissimo) in partenza.

Our VIP Caesar's Palace tour with Christina to the Colosseum with Special Access to Palatine Hill & the Forum was first class. Christina had a passion for these places and the knowledge to back it up. We were the beneficiaries. There is so much history packed into this area and Christina knew it backwards. Definitely worth getting a guided tour! We got access to so many extra spaces in the colosseum, the forum and went into the home of Augustus on the VIP Caesar's Palace: Colosseum Tour with Special Access Palatine & Forum. Our tour guide was patient and knowledgeable with excellent English and had a passion for the history and architecture. There were 14 in our group which was a manageable size. This requires extensive walking at a decent pace and several flights of stairs. There were 51 stairs at once in the colosseum stairs alone. Highly recommend if your health allows!

Your guide will be holding a green Walks sign.  If arriving by metro, please note that there are two entrances/exits for the metro. The Gate to access the Park is located on the street above the metro station. You can take the stairs up either inside the metro station or from outside. Once you arrive to the street above the metro, face the Colosseum and then walk to your left 150 meters and you will find the Oppio Caffè and the Gate to the Park at the corner. My husband and I will be in moscow and wanted to take a side trip..understand Vladimir & Suzdal is quite nice. Do you prefer that to Sergiev Posad? Do you know any agencies that provide group tours or private tours to Vladimir & Suzdal? I understand that Patriarshy Dom is not operating its group tour during this time. Please advise. Any information you have to share would be helpful.

Vladimir & Suzdal are close to each other. you can use vladimir as base and also visit suzdal.

My sugestion would be to go to Vladimir by train from moscow in the evening, take rest and then join a full day tour of vladimir - suzdal and return at night or next day morning. The train takes 2-3 hrs. Details available at http://www.poezda.net ( in english) .You can even book online

Trains are clean and safe. Hotel Vladimir at Vladimir is ok. near the train station. you can find the contacts in google. ( book the tickets in advance.)

You can visit sergiev possad ( quite near to moscow) using the moscow based tour agency mentioned above. They offer day trips to Sergivev possad.

If you want to search the net further, go to http://www.yandex.ru ( russian website) and type in "vladimir tour" or "suzdal tour" in ENGLISH. This will give you many sites with english option

from moscow to vladimir take a long-distance train or a suburban (electrichek) train from kursky station. there are several in the daytime/early evening. certain long-distance trains are faster and can arrive in 2 hours. suburbans take 3 hrs. probably less complicated to buy suburban ticket than one of a long-distance train (where you need passport, specify what type of seat, which train number...) and also cheaper

once in vladimir you can walk around for 1-2 hours or even have your dinner there. then take a bus (avtobus) at the bus station just up a slope from the train station. the bus runs every 30-60mins till late. i took the one around 8-9pm. and the evening buses go directly into city centre of suzdal. the trip is about 40-60mins

the tricky part is if you reserve your accomodation in suzdal with a guesthouse/B&B, it may not be easy to locate. the one i had booked did not have a sign hanging at the door. i walked around for about an hour and at last had to find a local to talk to my host over phone and then she kindly led me to the right wooden house
