| THIS ARTICLE WAS CREATED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH Cape York Motorcycle Adventures |

This article was created in partnership with cape york motorcycle adventures, cairns to cape york: four words guaranteed to hypnotise any australian off-road motorcycle rider into an open-mouthed, drool-producing daydream..

However, until now, relatively few people tackle this epic ride which traverses the wondrous wilds of tropical North Queensland , bound for the continent’s northernmost tip.

Too hard, too expensive and a logistical nightmare, are some of the excuses you’ll hear. Well, Cape York Motorcycle Adventures’ new seven-day Cape York return guided tour might just leave these excuses in your rear-view mirror. Here’s why Cairns to Cape York by motorcycle need not be just a daydream any longer.

Cape York to Cairns Motorbike Adventures

Take in the beauty of Cairns to Cape York with Cape York Motorcycle Adventures.

1. You don’t have to rough it on a Cairns to Cape York adventure

Most Cairns to Cape York motorcycle trips require you to flop onto a blow-up mattress or camp stretcher deep, deep in the Cape’s wilderness each night. Perfect, if camping under starry tropical skies is your thing, but for those looking for a little bit of ‘Cape luxury’, this seven-day tour offers way more creature comforts than creatures keeping you awake.

At the end of each day’s epic ride, a comfy bed, steaming hot shower and substantial sit-down feast await. Naturally, a cold one or two will be available to stimulate the evening’s storytelling.

‘Luxury’ in a Cape York context can mean anything from wood-fired pizza by the water, to sleeping soundly on a remote cattle station.

Enjoy hot showers and cold beers at the end of each day.

2. You’ll drive further with greater comfort on new adventure bikes

Small and light dirt bikes might seem perfect for Cape York’s varied and challenging terrain – until day two, when your bum and wrists might have something to say about it.

This is why Cape York Motorcycle Adventures provides ‘adventure’ motorcycles for its seven-day tour. The CFMOTO 800MT is a nice balance of off-road capability and big-bike power, offering a wrist-friendly upright riding position and tush-saving touring-style seat.

The grunty two-cylinder engine helps you eat up the big distances required to get from Cairns to the Cape and back in a week (around 2,500 kilometres, following a less technical route than the one-way, smaller-bike tours).

3. You’ll see the Daintree (and other Aussie icons) on your way to Cape York

Making it to ‘the Tip’ is the ultimate goal, but the Aussie icons along the journey up and back rival the destination. Burbling along sun-rayed tracks through the Daintree and Cape Tribulation – where the rainforest and Great Barrier Reef rendezvous – is a life highlight.

This World-Heritage-listed realm has pay-offs around every bend, whether it be standing under the plunging magnificence of Bloomfield Falls or stealing a glimpse of the Southern Cassowary or teeny-weeny Musky-rat Kangaroo. A few hundred kilometres north, the millennia-old Quinkan Indigenous rock art site at Laura may just blow your mind, too.

4. Cape York Motorcycle Adventures saves you thousands

Let’s be honest, ladies and gentlemen, riding Cairns to Cape York under your own steam is a one-way ticket to re-mortgaging the house.

You’ll be spending minimum $15,000 for a decent adventure bike, plus as much as you want to spend on boots, a helmet and panniers. You’ll need somewhere to sleep, so stash some cash for a tent and sleeping bag or a week’s worth of food and lodging, plus a few thousand kilometres’ worth of fuel (if you know where to find it).

However, on Cape York Motorcycle Adventures’ 7-Day Cape York Return everything is served to you on a platter. Your bike, accommodation, food and fuel are all included and they can even provide all the safety gear, too. Feel free to ride your own motorcycle though.

5. You’ll get time off to appreciate Cape York’s magnificence

First things first: you’ve made it. Climb down onto the rocky point and snap the group shot next to the sign confirming that “you are standing at the northernmost point of the Australian continent”.

You’ve definitely earned a breather, so this tour factors in a day and night on stunning Punsand Beach, close to the Tip, before heading south again. Throw out a line and battle with a barramundi (keeping an eye out for ‘salties’) or just drink in a few beverages and the tropical serenity, before grabbing a nanna nap in your beach hut. For a higher perspective over the Cape, spend a little extra and book a scenic helicopter flight.

6. Cape York Motorcycle Adventures guides have unrivalled local knowledge

Cape York Motorcycle Adventures’ Roy Kunda has been exploring the Cape’s termite-mound-fringed red roads and bush tracks for decades, so be prepared to ride where few before you have.

Take a dip in the crystal-clear and croc-free waters of secluded Fruit Bat Falls in remote Apudthama/Jardine River National Park. Detour along bush tracks that take you to sombre plane wrecks dating back to World War II. The experienced guides know easier ways to tackle the famed Overland Telegraph Track (including the infamous Gunshot if you’re game).

And, naturally, they take you to all the best ‘watering holes’, including the thoroughly eccentric Lion’s Den Hotel, located in a swathe of rainforest south of Cooktown.

7. You don’t have to be an expert rider to do this Cairns to Cape York tour

You do need a full motorcycle licence, a can-do attitude and, preferably, some off-road riding experience. This is no ride in the park – with river crossings and sand riding involved – but the guides will get you through it.

They can modify the route to your experience/ability, and there’s always a ‘sweep’ rider behind, so take your sweet time and ride safely within your limits. Crucially, you won’t be loaded with luggage (thanks to the support truck) so it’s just you and your un-laden adventure bike versus The Cape.

Lastly, this is no guys-only adventure, with an ever-increasing number of women motorcyclists hopping on this ride of a lifetime.

A bit about Cape York

Cape York is a wondrous place of adventure for Motorcycles, 4WD vehicles and travelers in general.

Cape York has its own unique plants and animals that exist in this region alone.

The Cape is steeped in history with the first maritime Dutch explorers, its Aboriginal past, its white explorers (Edmund Kennedy), gold mining and the settlers that opened up this remote tip of Australia.

Cape York is still remote in places yet touristy enough for those who are willing to navigate the many heavily corrugated dirt roads and sandy trails.

This region has it all – from the Savannah grasslands and mountainous Great Divide to the many crystal clear streams and rivers which make for great fishing.

Alternative campsite of Musgrave Station is a great second choice campsite if Kalpower is not available. We will meet up with the truck for lunch and there after ride through some more tight trails before arriving at the township of Coen to have a beer at the famous Exchange Hotel. The rest of day will see us drop in at the Coen quarantine station for an interesting visit where you can ask any questions from the station officer. The Frenchman’s Track is one of the high lights of the days riding with plenty of sand and creek crossing to negotiate. We will arrive the famous Moreton Telegraph Station for lunch on the green grassy lawns. The rest of the afternoon is a lazy ride into Bramwell Station, make camp and enjoy the evenings entertainment usually a one piece band along with a great outdoor smorgasbord BBQ dinner (definitely a highlight).

Day 4 alternate route 165km If the Pascoe and Wenlock rivers are impassable due to flooding we will not be taking he French Track. The itinerary for the day will be Batavia goldfields and there after smoko, we take the Peninsula Developmental road to Moreton Telegraph station for lunch, swim and a fish before making our way up to Bramwell station to finish off the day.

Day 5 Bramwell Stations to J ardine River (Tele Track Sth & Nth) 156km We leave Bramwell Station and refueling at the Junction so we can get straight into the Telegraph Track. We have plenty of time up our sleeve for the day to ride full length of Telegraph Track which will take all day with her many sand stone creek crossing and sandy trails of fun!! The southern section of the Telegraph track include all the famous creek crossings such as steep banks of Palm CK, impossible Gun Shot Ck and Cockatoo Ck just to name a few. Along the way we will stop at Fruit Bat falls for a relaxing swim followed by BBQ lunch. The Northern section of the Telegraph Track see’s more fabulous creeks and sandy trails for rest of the day, there after we making our way to the banks of the magnificent Jardine River were we will make camp for the night next to this super clear tranquil river, you might even possibly get to see or hear some Crocs.

Day 6 Jardine River to Cape York to Seisia (Five Beaches run) 150km In the morning we will leave our camp for a final days riding and cross the Jardine river on the local ferry heading for the top of Australia, on the way checking out some WW2 air wrecks and ride the Fly Point 5 beaches before heading into a tropical rain forest.  We park our motorcycles and walk over a rock escarpment reveling breath taking views to the most norther tip of Australia and celebrate the ride at Cape York’s most northerly point sign with a picture, a memory you will cherish for a long time. Before lunch we will ride back into town and finish the ride off with a couple more small trails, drop into the Croc Shop were the friendly staff will help you out with your souvenirs, there after we will ride into Seisia to make camp to rest and unwind. The Seisia wharf is always a hive of activity and a very interesting place to visit as barges come and go, watch them being unloaded and loaded. There are always many locals fishing off the wharf and is interesting to see what they have caught, the afternoon free time is perfect for your chance have a look around.

The south bound tour will see us camp on banks of the Jardine river, we will arrive there by 2pm so this will give you plenty of time to enjoy the beauty of the place, have a cold beer (BYO), flick a lure to see if you can land a Barra but you defiantly can’t go swimming as there are big crocs in the river!

Optional fishing Yes Mobile phone coverage at Seisia Yes Showers, toilets yes Licenced bar operating on Cape York time yes

Day 7 fly out Flying out of Cape York (Bamaga Dept 9:30 am to Cairns Arrive 11:30 am). Flying into Cape York (Cairns Dept 2:00 pm to Bamaga Arrive 4:00 pm).

South bound tour The tour from Cape York to Cairns is the same route as the tour going from Cairns to Cape York the only difference it is done in reverse, you will not miss a thing and have just as good of a time.

Tour  summary This is not a hard tour, designed for the average weekend rider.  This tour is a laid back touristy look around the Cape riding all the famous Cape trails. This tour requires you to have a bit of fitness about you. You will be expect to ride step clay hilly tracks, hot dusty open plains, deep sandy sections of trail, single track, traverse creek crossings, dirt and bitumen roads. We try to finish up at a reasonable hour each day so you can relax, unwind, enjoy a cold beer, laugh and have look around at the end of the days riding. Some section maybe be challenging for riders it will depend on riders individual skill level but generally nothing too hard. If you cannot handle some of the riding we have alternate routes for less capable riders when the harder sections present them selves nearing the top. We schedule our tours in the best time of the year weather wise for you to enjoy! At the end of the day you are going to get great value for your money and have a great time.

Full Tour Itinerary

(Day 1) Meet up at Centenary Park, Nautilus St Trinity beach for briefing. Lets go we’re heading north our first stop will be Rex’s lookout for some pics of the spectacular views. Back on the bikes to the Daintree Ferry terminal. Eyes on the water we might see a croc passing by. The Daintree Village, we will stop for some lunch before we tackle. Option 1 – The Creb track (inland): This 71km track is slippery, muddy with steep ups and downs and water crossings with great views in the heart of the rain forest, the Creb is only open in the dry season almost impossible when wet. Or Option 2 – The Bloomfield Track (the coastal road): 31km of rough unsealed rd with steep inclines, descents and creek crossings, quick refreshment stop at Wujal Wujal. (Accommodation: The Lions Den)

(Day 2) Up early for a cooked breakfast then we’re off to explore Cooktown and the awesome view from Grassy Hill Lookout. Then we have a long ride ahead of us through the Lakefield National Park. Musgrave was first built as an overland telegraph station in 1887, Musgrave is about half way between Cairns and “The Tip” so has been the resting place for many travellers. (Accommodation: Musgrave station)

(Day 3) The Roadhouse is famous for the massive Archer Burger, which can be enjoyed with an ice cold beer. (Accommodation: Archer River)

(Day 4) Located at the road junction of the Bamaga road and the start of the famous Old Telegraph Line. (Accommodation: Bramwell Junction)

(Day 5) The OTL is easier in the dry season, but if there’s been some wet weather the water crossings get too deep to cross so we will take one of the bypass roads instead. Stopping at the iconic Fruit Bat Falls for a swim. This natural weir is croc-free and is a few kilometres from the junction of the Southern Bypass road and the OTL. It has plenty of shady picnic tables, making it the ideal place for a pit stop. The Jardine river ferry crossing. (Accommodation: Bamaga and Punsand Bay)

(Day 6) After breakfast its only 30km to the tip! Pajinka, the traditional name for the northernmost point of mainland Australia at the top of the Cape York Peninsula! After photos and a beer to celebrate we head back to our accommodation for lunch then there’s something very cool planned. We have a helicopter booked for flights around the tip. It’s our farewell dinner and a chance to remember what we have achieved it’s been hard at times but well worth the effort, a trip of a lifetime we’ve all made new friends and a stack of awesome memories, on a trip full of adventure. (Accommodation: Last night at Punsand Bay)

(Day 7) After breakfast it’s time for the team at FNQ MT to say goodbye and well done to all our new friends. The bus has arrived it’s a short drive to Bamaga airport for your flight back to Cairns. What a trip hope to see you all again on your next adventure!!

The Cape was one of my first fishing trips away with mates about 20 years ago. We have continued to do the trip most years which has given me great knowledge of the area. One of my first motorbike rides was up there with Roy Kunda from Cape York Motorcycle Tours.

Crossing the Daintree River and riding the CREB track is a great blast! The roads and tracks change every day on this tour and I always enjoy the many creeks and rivers we cross heading north. It’s such a big area from the East to the West coast and although we see a lot, you will want to return with mates on a fishing trip to explore the area more or do a custom ride.

1 day slay tour.

Every picture tells a story they say, well if my picture is anything to go by then it looks like I've had the sweetest day ever.  The lads at MOA were awesome, they setup the bike to suit me and got me comfortable. Then we hit the some of the maddest trails I've ever ridden, the bikes are setup nice and are highly maintained. There was the best connection of single trails and the contrast within these sections was just ludicrous. I got into Mount Molloy hungry and pretty thirsty for a beer and again I was not dissapointed with a big tasty lunch.  After this we smashed more unreal trails, the perfect weather made it so bloody good to be out here on a bike.  I absolutely loved it, cant wait for the next trip back. Thanks fellas! Scotty.

1 say slay tour.

Where do I start..

I hadn't ridden in a while but I felt really comfortable being out with the boys from MOA.  The tracks we were taken on were awesome it was a bit of a step up gradually through the morning going onto slightly harder tracks each time and getting a few good tips on the way really improved my riding and confidence. Lunchtime came around at the pub pretty quickly and we had a really good feed before heading out for more.  I need to ride more again and I want a new KTM 300 now.  The seed has been planted u buggers!  The best day on a bike in years. 5 stars to you. 6 day cape york enduro tour.

An incredibly proffessional and friendly operation, KTM 500's are kept in factory fresh condition and set up to tackle all the amazing tracks along the way.  Charlie and the crew really know how to take care of you from showing you the best line through corners or creeks or improving your technique so that you can make the most of your trip. The food was great, the locations were top notch and learned so much along the way.  I went with 3 mates and came back with 17!  You will not regret going with these guys!

A 25-year-old Cape Coral man and a 42-year-old Garrison, New York, woman are dead after their motorcycle crashed, authorities say.

The crash happened 8:55 p.m. Monday along U.S. 41, near Gladiolus Drive, in south Fort Myers, according to a Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

Troopers said the motorcycle was traveling south on U.S. 41, south of Gladiolus Drive, on the inside lane, when the Cape Coral man lost control.
