The 14 Best TV Shows About Cruise Ships and Yachts
Top cruise ship reality, scripted, documentary, and travel series.
One of my favorite family vacations to this day will always be the 3-day cruise we took from Singapore to Malaysia on the SuperStar Virgo. Even though it was some 20 years ago, I still remember the excitement I felt walking up the grand staircase that wrapped around the Christmas tree, the inordinate amount of time I spent in the arcade room (one the jet skiing game in particular), running down the carpeted hallways to find our room, and the awe I felt at just how huge the entire ship looked from the outside.
My tiny, eight-year-old brain had a hard time processing how something so big could stay afloat, but I had no worries that it wouldn’t. I also remember thinking how cool it was that there was a swimming pool on the top deck, asking myself “how can there be water on top of water?”
It was, without a doubt, a memorable experience and one that I’d like to have again as an adult. I definitely recommend going on a cruise at least once in your life! However, since our collective 2020-2021 reality has put our travel plans to a grinding halt, the only way to do that is vicariously through our TV screens.
So we’ve put together a comprehensive list of TV shows about cruise ships for all you sea-lovers to get the travel bug somewhat out of your system. Whether the format you’re looking for is reality, travel, scripted, or documentary – we’ve got it! So put on your best cruise outfit, grab that poolside cocktail, and settle down onto your couch to binge these TV shows about cruise ships!
CRUISE SHIP REALITY SHOWS
Below deck, brave (2013 – present).
As passengers, we only ever see the surface of what happens on a cruise. We’re the consumers in this entertainment and service industry, after all. Bravo’s reality series Below Deck literally brings us below the ship’s deck – to behind the scenes of the luxurious experience of a ship.
Each season of Below Deck follows the young crew of a superyacht during the ever-busy charter season, chronicling their lives both working and living aboard the vessel.
Some of the yachties, as the crew members are also called, have a prior yachting background while others are there to personify the “work hard, party harder” attitude and bring little to no experience to the table, which always makes for an interesting team dynamic.
One thing is for sure though: there’s nothing these guys wouldn’t do to make sure their clients have the best experience possible.
Below Deck also gives a great view into the perks of working on a yacht, one of which is traveling to places like Sint Maarten, the British Virgin Islands, the Mediterranean Sea, the Bahamas, Tahiti, and most recently, Phuket!
Below Deck Mediterranean, Bravo (2016 – present)
Below Deck was so popular and successful that in March 2015, Bravo announced the arrival of its first spin-off show: Below Deck Mediterranean .
The premise of this spin-off reality show is similar to the original in that it documents the personal and professional lives of the crew on board a superyacht, this time 150-feet in length!
While the regular yachties take a break, the cast of Below Deck takes over for roughly 6 weeks and sail through all sorts of beautiful locations.
Each season features a myriad of colorful guests and customers, ranging from executives on business trips and millionaires on vacation to groups of friends looking for a good time and a sea-bound party.
Here, Chef Ben Robinson from four seasons of the original Below Deck joins the Mediterranean crew as they visit Greece, Croatia, Italy, France, and Spain!
Below Deck Sailing Yacht, Bravo (2020 – present)
News of a second Below Deck Spin-off first came in March 2019 and it wasn’t until December that year that fans got confirmation of a premiere date: for February 2020.
Entitled Below Deck Sailing Yacht , it follows the same format as its predecessors but this time, for the crew on a 180-foot luxury sailing yacht called the Parsifal III as it sails through Greece during charter season.
In a crew mixed with vastly different members, there’s bound to be some tension when certain attitudes and job ethics come to clash – and that’s what reality shows are all about, especially when you’re in a country so beautiful, surrounded by equally beautiful people!
Old relationships are tested while new ones are formed (often to the chagrin of others), but there’s never a dull day on Parsifal III.
Chef Adam Glick, who was on two seasons of Below Deck Mediterranean , joins the Sailing Yacht crew this year. However, with the second season lined up to air in March 2021, it looks like Adam will be bowing out of this new crew.
The Cruise, ITV (2016 – 2018)
It’s not glaringly obvious what the difference is between a yacht and a cruise ship, especially when there are some yachts that are the same length as a cruise!
One difference is that yachts are privately owned and directly chartered while cruise ships are owned by corporations. However, the main difference really lies in the guest experience.
On a cruise ship, you have access to amenities like a gym, pool, spa, arcade room, restaurants, what have you. Renting a yacht, though, provides a more personal and luxurious experience.
ITV’s The Cruise takes us from the yacht setting of the previous shows to an actual cruise ship, though this series does primarily follow the ship’s crew as well.
The Regal Princess ship is over 1,080 feet long and has a whopping 19 decks, so it makes sense that there are more than 1400 crew members manning operations.
The Cruise shows us the hustle and bustle of maintaining their five-star service as they go from Copenhagen to St. Petersburg, the Mediterranean, and even Alaska throughout its five seasons.
DOCUMENTARY TV SHOWS ABOUT CRUISE SHIPS
Mighty ships, discovery channel canada (2008 – 2016).
After a successful one-off special entitled Inside Queen Mary 2 , the Discovery Channel commissioned an entire series exploring the workings of the world’s mightiest ships!
What’s great about Mighty Ships is that while we do get to learn about a few cruise ships along the way, the show actually covers all types of sea vessels – probably some that you never even knew existed!
Mighty Ships lets you in on all the secrets these vessels hold throughout their voyages; from preparations made for the journey to the voyage itself, and ending when their job has been successfully delivered.
While the previous shows primarily display the crew’s interactions with each other and the guests, Mighty Ships focuses heavily on the operational and technical side of running the ships.
It even goes so far as to computer-generated animations in order to better explain to its audience certain aspects of the ship that cannot be seen or visited in person. Interlaced with that are interviews with the crew as they provide more information about the ship as well as what life is like aboard it.
Mighty Cruise Ships, Discovery Channel Canada (2014 – 2022)
Mighty Ships evolved into two spin-offs; the first was Mighty Planes that aired for four seasons and employed the same format while following various types of aircrafts. The second premiered in 2014 and was a more direct spin-off of the parent series: Mighty Cruise Ships .
Everyone wants to know what happens on these huge, extravagant, cruise ships and Mighty Cruise Ships definitely lets us witness the lavish life without having to pay the thousands of dollars that come with a cruise ship ticket.
Each episode brings us aboard a brand new ship – each with its own features, amenities, and cutting-edge technology that only seems to get better as the episodes progress.
These ships are built for their destinations, whether intended to endure the harsh cold temperatures and narrow passageways of the Nordic fjords or to breeze through the coastlines of Scotland.
On board, the ships cater to every aesthetic too – interested in Viking history? The Viking Sea is the boat for you. Looking for an adrenaline rush at sea? Check out Carnival Vista and their suspended bike loop and waterpark! Mighty Cruise Ships truly lets us see the best cruises there are to offer.
Cruise Ship Killers, Justice Network (2020 – 2022)
This next show takes a much darker turn than those that came before – if you couldn’t tell right away from the title Cruise Ship Killers . If you’ve got an interest in true crime, you’re definitely going to want to add this show to your list.
However, if that’s not your thing and you’re the kind to get paranoid pretty quickly, maybe you should skip this one. I say that because one thing’s for sure: Cruise Ship Killers might make you second guess your desire to go on a cruise – ever.
This true-crime documentary series tells the stories of people who got on a cruise expecting to have the vacation of a lifetime – only to never return or be heard from again.
Each episode will keep you guessing right from the get-go: was the businessman’s death foul play? Was the young woman kidnapped? Did he fall overboard? Did the missing woman just get off at one port and decide to stay to start a new life? There’s just no telling where each episode of Cruise Ship Killers will take us.
* Side note: if you want to look into cruise ship crimes even more, check out the Cruise Ship Disappearances episode of the Wine and Crime podcast . It’s very informative, and the hosts are also really funny!
The Cruise, BBC One (1998)
Not to be confused with the ITV reality show of the same name previously mentioned, BBC One’s The Cruise is an observational documentary series that followed the crew of the luxury cruise ship named Galaxy as it set off on its maiden voyage through the Caribbean – including a pit stop in Jamaica on Christmas Day!
While we have a chance to witness the personal lives of the crew onboard Galaxy, we also get a glimpse into how the crew handles the pressures of everyday operations on the luxury cruise. From dealing with a confrontational passenger at the ship’s casino to facing a whole congregation of born-again Christians, you truly never know what challenges a new day will bring. Not to mention the preparations for their new entertainment show!
Most notably, The Cruise is what paved the way for singer Jane McDonald, who was then an entertainer for Galaxy. After the show, she went on to become a recording artist, actress, media personality, and TV presenter. The Cruise even released two additional specials with Jane in the spotlight!
CRUISE SHIP TRAVEL SHOWS
Cruising with jane mcdonald, channel 5 (2017 – 2020).
I have always thought that hosts of these lifestyle-type shows have the best job in the world – those that get to do food and restaurant reviews, explore different countries and cultures, and now, even experience cruise ships!
Remember Jane McDonald from the previous show, The Cruise ? Well, she’s back for more sea-worthy adventures on the Channel 5 travel series, Cruising with Jane McDonald , where she films a travelogue showcasing the very best aspects of the ship, both in terms of service and aesthetics.
Right off the bat, she starts off with a mega-cruise ship called the MSC Divina through the Caribbean, where over 4000 passengers make the most of their holidays on the ship and at the port.
Throughout its six seasons, Jane travels the world one cruise ship at a time, truly living the best life.
The Voyager With Josh Garcia, NBC (2016 – 2019)
NBC’s The Voyager with Josh Garcia also follows the travelogue format through the eyes of traveler and host, Josh Garcia. However, instead of focusing solely on the experience with cruise ships, The Voyager provides a wider perspective of the world as a whole.
Josh takes his viewers with him as he travels the globe by ocean, disembarking at every port with the intention of discovering the nooks and crannies of each culture he encounters.
Each episode is a learning experience not just for Josh, but for us as well. He speaks with the locals, learns about native and regional traditions from cultural experts, and fearlessly tries the local cuisine every chance he gets.
Through The Voyager with Josh Garcia , our global wanderlust is ignited, and our traveling bucket list just keeps getting longer and longer!
SCRIPTED CRUISE SHIP TV SHOWS
High seas, netflix (2019 – 2020).
High Seas , also known as Alta Mar in its original Spanish, is a Netflix original series that aired for three seasons beginning in 2019.
Unlike the modern cruise ship settings that we’ve seen so far, High Seas takes place on a luxury ocean liner in the 1940s!
Sisters Eva and Carolina Villanueva climb aboard the Barbara de Braganza liner as it voyages from Spain to Brazil. Unbeknownst to the other passengers and crew, they’ve smuggled a mysterious woman onboard after she pleaded for their help.
Things go terribly awry when the woman is thrown overboard and Eva, a curious and headstrong writer, launches an investigation into the mysterious goings-on on the ship.
Eventually, both she and her sister discover shocking secrets that tie into their family’s dark past. Who are they supposed to believe?
Sadly, the fourth season of High Seas was originally planned to continue the series but was subsequently canceled in mid-2020.
Wreck, BBC Three (2022 – present)
One of the newest shows on this list of top cruise ship shows is BBC Three’s horror-comedy series Wreck .
The series follows Jamie Walsh, a nineteen-year-old who takes a job on a board cruise ship called The Sacramentum to figure out what happened to his sister, who went missing from the same ship three months ago.
As Jamie learns the ins and outs of living and working on a ship, he befriends other crew members in order to help with his investigation into the disappearance of his sister and how a recent attack on a crew member could be connected to it.
The Love Boat, ABC (1977 – 1986)
The Love Boat is a scripted rom-com/drama series that aired on ABC more than 30 years ago! However, when watching this series you’ll find that a lot of the scenarios portrayed are still reflected, to some extent, in the reality shows on this list as well.
The show takes us on board the MS Pacific Princess, a luxury passenger cruise ship. Captain Merrill Stubing is at the helm, guiding not only the ship himself but his crew members as they attempt to deal with a new passenger’s antics in each episode.
These crew members included the cruise directors, photographer, purser, bartender, doctor, and eventually, even a troupe of dancers!
The Love Boat was based on the original made-for-TV movie of the same name, which in turn was based on the non-fiction book Love Boats.
The reason the scenarios in this show seem so true to life is because the book was written by Jeraldine Saunders, a real-life passenger cruise ship director !
Avenue 5, HBO (2020 – 2022)
Science fiction and dark comedy collide in this HBO original, bringing cruise ships to a place you never could have imagined: space. Yup, you read that right! Titled Avenue 5 , this is also the name of the interplanetary cruise ship owned by Herman Judd (played by Josh Gad) and captained by Ryan Clark (played by Hugh Laurie).
While setting off on an eight-week-long cruise, Avenue 5 experiences technical difficulties that set off a devastating chain of events: a temporary loss of gravity and the Chief Engineer’s accidental death, causing the ship to veer off-course.
When it’s estimated to take three years for them to return to Earth, Captain Clark and his crew need to figure out how to keep their passengers calm, collected, and safe – even as mishaps are happening left and right. Will they ever be able to make it back home?

Miss cruising? Stream these 13 movies and shows to get your cruise ship fix
Are you a hardcore cruising fan? We wouldn't blame you for being a bit down. The complete shutdown of cruising since March due to the coronavirus pandemic is keeping you away from your favorite floating hideaways, and it doesn't look like you'll be back at sea anytime soon.
That said, you're not completely cut off from your favorite ships — you still can see them in movies and in television shows.
Since streaming movies and television programming is pretty much all we're doing these days (and we're guessing that's the case for you, too), we've put together this list of some our favorite onscreen entertainment that includes at least a glimpse of a cherished cruise vessel.
For more TPG news delivered each morning to your inbox, sign up for our daily newsletter .
In some cases, these movies and shows are available on streaming services such as Hulu (if you're not a subscriber, get a free trial ), Amazon Prime , fuboTV , Sling TV and FandangoNow . Others can be found on YouTube, iTunes, or at Redbox kiosks.
"Mighty Cruise Ships"
Available on: Hulu , YouTube , Amazon Prime , Smithsonian Channel
You'll get much more than a glimpse of your favorite cruise ship with this series. Each of the 18 episodes, which originally aired in 2014, 2017 and 2019 on Canada's Discovery Channel, focus on a single cruise vessel in fabulously minute detail, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how they run. Among the vessels featured in the series are Celebrity Solstice, Carnival Vista, Royal Caribbean 's Symphony of the Seas and MSC Divina. The series also includes ships operated by Viking, Star Clippers, Azamara and Ponant.
"Mighty Ships"
Available on: FandangoNow , Hulu , YouTube , Amazon Prime , iTunes, fuboTV , Smithsonian Channel
"Mighty Cruise Ships" was a spinoff of this series, which began airing in 2008 on Canada's Discovery Channel and has completed 10 seasons. While it generally focuses on commercial and military vessels, from the container ship Emma Maersk to the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz, it also offers several wonderful episodes on cruise ships. Among the vessels profiled: Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas , Norwegian Breakaway, Wind Surf and MSC Meraviglia.
"Ocean Treks with Jeff Corwin"
Available on: ABC, Hulu , Ocean.com
Every episode of this 4-year-old travel series starring television personality Jeff Corwin will get you at least a peek at one the vessels under the Carnival Corp. umbrella of brands. The giant cruise company, which owns Carnival Cruise Line , Princess Cruises , Holland America and six other major lines, sponsors the series, which has been airing on Saturday mornings on ABC. It follows Corwin as he heads off ships in various port towns for a perfect day of adventure.
"The Voyager with Josh Garcia"
Available on: Hulu , Sling TV , fuboTV , Ocean.com
Like "Ocean Treks," this is a series sponsored by Carnival Corp. that's generously filled with cameos of the line's vessels and is all about things to do during port calls, but with less of a focus on adventure. The host, video journalist Josh Garcia, sets off from vessels for a day of off-the-beaten-path exploring. His goal: Meeting locals who can share their history, life stories and exotic foods. It originally aired on NBC from 2016 to 2019.
"Building the World's Most Luxurious Cruise Ship"
Available on: YouTube
This is can't-miss television for Regent Seven Seas Cruises fans. The two-part documentary chronicles the creation of the luxury line's Seven Seas Explorer, which was the most expensive luxury ship ever built at the time it debuted in 2016. Even today, only one ship -- Seven Seas Explorer's just-unveiled sister, Seven Seas Splendor -- rivals it in opulence. What we love about this documentary is the amazing behind-the-scenes access that Regent gave the filmmakers during the ship's construction. You see every little twist and turn in the making of a new icon of the seas.
"Jack and Jill"
Available on: FandangoNow , YouTube , Amazon Prime , Hulu , Google Play, iTunes, Vudu
Yes, we know: This is widely considered one of the all-time worst movies ever made. It only scored 3% on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer! But, if you're a Royal Caribbean fan jonesing for a glimpse of one of the line's giant Oasis Class-vessels, there's simply no better movie. We won't even bother going into the inane plot of this 2011 comedy, which stars Adam Sandler (playing both a male and female role). Just fast-forward to the shipboard scenes, which were shot on board Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas.
"Speed 2: Cruise Control"
Available on: FandangoNow , YouTube , Amazon Prime , Google Play, iTunes, Vudu
This 1997 action flick starring Sandra Bullock got almost as bad reviews as Jack and Jill (which is a pity, as the original "Speed" is a classic). Still, we mention it because it was filmed on one of the great luxury ships of the past 30 years: The vessel now known as Star Legend. Star Legend sails for Windstar Cruises these days, but it originally debuted as the last new ship for legendary (and long-defunct) luxury operator Royal Viking Line. Back then, it was called Royal Viking Queen. By the time the film was made, it had moved to the Seabourn fleet, sailing as Seabourn Legend.
"Like Father"
Available on: Netflix
Another giant Royal Caribbean ship, Harmony of the Seas, is the star of this somewhat predictable "dramedy" from 2018, which stars Kelsey Grammer, Kristen Bell and Seth Rogen. The plot twist here is that Bell's character, left at the altar, ends up on her honeymoon cruise with her estranged father (Grammer), with resulting drama and hijinks. Royal Caribbean lovers can make it a game of spotting all the cool Harmony of the Seas features, from the ship's nine-deck-high zip line to the Rising Tide Bar. Scenes also were shot at Royal Caribbean's private beach retreat in Haiti.
"Cruising With Jane McDonald"
Former cruise ship entertainer Jane McDonald highlights a different river or ocean cruise every episode on this British television series, which ran from 2017 to this year (a new host will soon be taking over the show). Recent episodes have featured a wide range of vessels, including Oceania Cruises' Marina, Silversea's Silver Shadow and Princess' Sun Princess.

"Monster Ships"
Available on: FandangoNow , Hulu , YouTube, Amazon Prime , iTunes
Just in case "Mighty Ships" doesn't provide you with enough of a giant ship fix, the television world also offers the similarly named "Monster Ships" and, as its name suggests, the eight-part series from 2019 brings an up-close look at massive vessels of all kinds -- one per 42-minute episode. In addition to a gargantuan car carrier and a crazy-looking heavy lift vessel, the series (which aired on the Science Channel) includes two ships designed for cruising: Crown Princess and Royal Clipper.
"Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked"
Available on: FandangoNow , YouTube , Amazon Prime , iTunes, Google Play, Vudu, HBO Now
If you're even the least bit an "Alvin and the Chipmunks" fan, this is your cruise movie. The third installment of the live-action chipmunks series, which dates to 2011, is set on cruise giant Carnival's 3,646-passenger Carnival Dream. Or, at least, it is — until the chipmunks get blown away while flying a kite and end up on a deserted island. External shots and some interiors were filmed on the vessel. Some ship scenes, alas, were shot in a soundstage.
"Out to Sea"
Available on: FandangoNow , YouTube , Google Play, Vudu, Amazon Prime , HBO Now, Hulu
You can't go wrong with this Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau matchup, which involves the legendary comedic duo delivering their schtick as dance hosts on a cruise ship. Dating to 1997, it takes place on what's now the Marella Dream, a 1,132-passenger vessel in the fleet of British line Marella Cruises. Holland America fans will know this ship better as the old Westerdam (which was its name from 1988 to 2002). Just don't confuse it with the new Westerdam (Holland America likes to recycle names). It also sailed eight years for Costa Cruises.
"The Love Boat: Next Wave"
To make our list, a movie or television show had to feature a vessel still in service.
But we really can't do a story on cruise-related entertainment without at least mentioning "The Love Boat," which featured a Princess Cruises ship that's no longer in operation. While it doesn't offer a glimpse into a vessel you can book, this is, quite simply, the most iconic cruise ship show of all time. Indeed, many in the cruise industry credit the series, which ran from 1977 to 1987, for kicking off the great growth in cruising we've seen over the past four decades.
"The Love Boat" was set on the original Pacific Princess, which sailed for Princess from 1977 to 2002. But it was filmed not just on that ship, but also several others. If you want to see what all the fuss is about, you can find the show on MeTV stations on Sundays and on YouTube -- or buy the DVD box set of the first four seasons at Amazon.
Also, in 1988, the series was revived with a short-lived remake, "The Love Boat: Next Wave" — and it was filmed on the Sun Princess, which still sails. Unfortunately, it's not available on any major streaming platform. But, if you can find it, please sound off in the comments below and let us know where we can watch it, too.

Exclusive first preview of 9-1-1 season 7: 'I'm on a cruise ship, there was an explosion'
We last saw Angela Bassett's Athena and Peter Krause's Bobby headed out on a cruise. Now the Fox-turned-ABC drama has one going down.
ABC/ Youtube
"I can't believe we're doing this!"
Athena ( Angela Bassett ) and Bobby ( Peter Krause ) were quite excited to head out on their delayed honeymoon cruise in the 9-1-1 season 6 finale in May — but now, in a season 7 preview clip exclusive to EW, the middle of the ocean appears to be the last place you'd want to be.
"I'm on a cruise ship, there was an explosion," a passenger tells a 9-1-1 operator in the first peek at the upcoming season of the first-responder drama, which makes the move from Fox to ABC when it returns March 14.
It's not yet clear if this is the same cruise ship that Athena and Bobby headed out on, but it doesn't bode well that the show made a point to tell viewers that the couple didn't inform anyone about their last-minute trip. (Classic 9-1-1 mistake!)
This cruise ship disaster has been a long time coming, with showrunner Kristen Reidel teasing a honeymoon hazard way back at the end of season 5 .
"I mean, dinners don't go well on 9-1-1 . Proposals don't go well on 9-1-1 . So I would expect that yes, at some point next season, you will definitely see some portion of that vacation and it will be very 9-1-1, " she told EW in May 2022.
And Reidel wasn't alone in predicting a cruise mishap.
"Bobby feels like, 'Hey, maybe it's finally time for us to go on a honeymoon.' And he chooses to surprise Athena with an idea for a vacation — and what could possibly go wrong if they get on a cruise ship?" Krause told EW a few weeks prior to the season 5 finale .
It may have taken them a season longer than we'd expected, but it seems the high seas are finally set for high drama.

Concept Cars
From the Chevrolet XP-122, which led to the Corvette, to the 1997 Cell Craft G440 Flying Car that could be driven like a car or take off like a helicopter and fly above the traffic, concept cars have captured our imagination for close to a century.
Concept cars have played an important role in the evolution of our car culture. They allow manufacturers to experiment with new technologies, materials, designs, and powertrains without the constraints of current production requirements or regulations. By showcasing concept cars at auto shows and other public events, manufacturers can gauge the public's reaction to new designs, features, or technologies.
Though the creation of concept cars is more about exploring new possibilities, marketing, and influencing future designs than about direct sales, the impact of concept cars on the development of new cars can be significant. The concept car often makes bold overstated suggestions of future direction but not necessarily reality. Among the plethora of innovative and sometimes outlandish concept cars built by the Big Three American auto manufacturers, a few stand out for their particularly unusual features:
General Motors: The 1959 Cadillac Cyclone
The Cadillac Cyclone is one of the most unusual concept cars created by General Motors due to its futuristic design and technology. With its jet plane-inspired body, bubble-top canopy made of Plexiglas, and sliding cockpit doors, it looked like something straight out of a science fiction movie. Additionally, it was equipped with an early version of radar technology (in the form of twin "nose" cones) intended to warn drivers of obstacles ahead, showcasing GM's interest in pioneering safety features.
Ford: The 1957 Ford Nucleon
The Ford Nucleon, intended to go 10,000 miles between refueling, stands out as Ford's most unusual concept vehicle due to its proposed power source. This car was designed to be powered by a small nuclear reactor in the rear of the vehicle, a reflection of the atomic age's influence on American culture and technology during the late 1950s. The idea was that drivers would "refuel" their cars with uranium capsules instead of gasoline. Due to the obvious risks and technological limitations of nuclear power in vehicles, the Nucleon never went into production.
The creation of concept cars will continue to fuel our imaginations as long as cars are being produced. Keep in mind, sometimes it may take a while for concepts to come to fruition. Remember George Jetson’s smart watch he used to video call with his boss?

Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and NCL TV Channels (Full Listing)
There’s no one that goes on a cruise to sit around and watch TV, but sometimes it can be a great activity. After a day in the sun and humidity of the Caribbean, we’ll admit that we love nothing more than to chill out in a cool cabin, watching some television or Netflix .
We also know that we are not alone. That’s why we’ve rounded up the channel listings for two of the biggest cruise lines: Carnival and Royal Caribbean.
Below we have full details on the channel listings. One thing to keep in mind is that we’ve never seen the same channels twice on a cruise line. It seems to be that the offerings vary regularly and from ship to ship.
Therefore the channel listings below should give you an idea of what’s available, but could be different from what you see on your cruise.
What to Know About TV Channels on a Cruise
If you want the full run-down of what to expect from television on a cruise ship, then see our guide here . In general, however, you should set your expectations a little lower than what you might see on land.
Cruise ships typically have a couple of dozen channels, and most of those are related to the cruise itself. There are often channels for port shopping, a guide to what’s going on around the ship, safety channels and more.
Then there are typically channels that you won’t recognize showing everything from kids programming to movies. The number of well-known stations (e.g. ESPN, Travel Channel, Discovery, etc.) can usually be counted on one hand. Local broadcast channels such as ABC, CBS, or NBC aren’t available either.
To give you an idea of what to expect, here are the channel listings from a recent cruise for two major cruise lines: Carnival and Royal Caribbean.
Note: TV lineups seem to change slightly every time you sail. The channels available and the order may vary for your cruise.
Carnival Cruise TV Channel Listings
You can see that there aren’t a ton of channels on Carnival — just about two dozen. In fact, many of the biggest cable channels aren’t available at all, like ESPN. Don’t worry though, if there is a big game you want to watch, it will be shown somewhere on the ship — most likely the SKYBOX Sports Bar that’s on many ships or the casino.
As for the rest of the stations, you have things like Nickelodeon for the kids, Discovery, Travel Channel, and some additional cable channels. Much of the rest is a ton of cruise line-specific stations. Also, the channels start at 11 instead of 2, like you would see on land. Notably absent are any networks like ABC or NBC.
Here are all of Carnival’s TV channels from a recent cruise:
- Channel 11: Channel Guide
- Channel 13: Safety Information
- Channel 14: Cruise Life TV
- Channel 15: Cruise Live TV 2
- Channel 16: Carnival Adventures
- Chanel 17: Choose Shopping
- Channel 18: Choose Fun Ashore
- Channel 19: Ocean View
- Channel 20: Complimentary Movie 1
- Channel 21: Complimentary Movie 2

- Channel 31: What’s Happening (Audible)
- Channel 32: Map Channel
- Channel 33: Forward Camera View
- Channel 34: Lido Camera View
- Channel 35: Music Channel
Royal Caribbean Cruise TV Channel Listings
The TV channel lineup on Royal Caribbean is similar to Carnival in that the list is relatively short, along with a number of stations you won’t find anywhere and/or are related to the cruise.
One thing to note is that we find Royal Caribbean to offer more sports programming such as ESPN compared to Carnival. As well, it seems that during football season more games are fed into the cabin TV, allowing you to watch while at sea.
- Channel 1: Royal Entertainment
- Channel 2: Cruise Compass
- Channel 3: On the Map
- Channel 4: Peek-a-Boo TV (Kids 3 and under)
- Channel 5: Junior Cruisers
- Channel 6: Teens Stream
- Channel 7: Health and Safety Channel

- Channel 25: Music Videos
- Channel 26: Special Events/Music
- Channel 27: Music Only A
- Channel 28: Music Only B
- Channel 29: Music Only C
Note: We’ve noticed that channel listings change often on Royal Caribbean. We have been on cruises where ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN U, and SEC Network are all available, while they aren’t available on others.
Norwegian (NCL) Cruise Line TV Channel Listings
Like its rivals Royal Caribbean and Carnival, NCL has a lineup that’s a bit different than what you’d see on land.
As you can see, most channels are content for the cruise line and the ship. Meanwhile, MSNBC, Fox News, and CNBC are the only widely-known U.S. cable channels in the lineup.
The movie channels do show recent release movies 24 hours per day. Sports 24 features international sporting events from nightly NBA games to cricket matches in Australia.
- Channel 10: Safety Channel
- Channel 11: Ship Info
- Channel 12: Bridge Cam
- Channel 13: ShorEx/CruiseNext
- Channel 14: Feel Free
- Channel 15: Port Info Channel
- Channel 16: Activities Channel

- Channel 32: Special Feed
Bottom Line on TV on a Cruise
While no one goes on a cruise specifically for TV, you should still know that if you do want to relax and watch some of the tube, the options are somewhat limited.
Given the lack of channels, we suggest bringing your own device to allow you to watch any movies or TV. Most shops offer streaming if you get the premium Internet package. As well, Netflix and other services allow you to download shows beforehand to watch without a connection.

You have Fox but not MSNBC. No thanks
On Royal Caribbean: Only channel worth watching is TBS but it’s only in Spanish?? Ridiculous! Oceanview Channel would be nice (since our cabin doesn’t even have a window) but it’s not on the lineup. Oh well, guess I’ll just play my iPod/speaker in the room. :-/
Shame on you Carnival!! We are platinum with you and have always sang praises about Carnival but maybe not so much now. You are not going to miss out on casino or drink money just because you have 3 major networks tv in cabins Really Carnival we didn’t expect this from you!!!. None of the other lines have done this. Maybe time to look at Oceania, NCL RCCL,HAL,Celebirty????
Carnival dropped all the network channels for cabin TVs in January. They never said why, but many people believe it’s another cutback. They’ve had a lot of those recently, including the quality of the food in the MDR.
Sorry to tell you, but carnival has apparently dropped all network TV channels. No explanation was given.
That certainly seems to be the case from what we are hearing.
No network tv on royal. bummer!
I was recently on the Liberty and they didn’t have all of those channels in our rooms; the sports bars had local(?) channels and ESPN, but all of the feed from TBS, TNT and TCM were from the Spanish Latin American feed. Not that I’m complaining; I wasn’t there to watch TV the entire time, it jut made for a nice reprieve.
I enjoy watching some tv right before going to bed. I just wish the connections were better. The last cruise, the channels kept going in and out.
We didn’t have that issue, but our last cruise the remote barely worked. Had to press the channel button three times before it registered!

Cruise-ins: Car shows near you
Baseball may be the national pastime, but cruise-ins are Ohio’s obsession. From spring through fall, anybody and everybody — towns, museums, businesses, and even wineries — showcase vintage vehicles, and whether it’s a collectors’ show or informal cruise-in, Ohioans turn out in droves to relish the craftsmanship, chrome, and charisma of classic cars.
Since cruise-in season is underway in the Buckeye State, we’ve selected eight great events where the good times roll.
Arthritis Foundation Classic Auto Show & Cruise-In Dublin; July 5–7, 2018
The beauty of this suburban Columbus event is that it combines a top-notch visitor experience, a wide variety of cars, and an awesome location with green spaces and water features at Dublin’s Metro Center. Staged for more than 30 years and benefiting the Arthritis Foundation, it attracts some 1,100 cars from more than 20 states. “You’ll see a ton of cool cars in about 50 different classes based on brands, age, ownership, or unrestored originals,” says chairperson Kevin Gadd.
Performance Classic Car Show Delaware; July 21, 2018
Formerly called “Blast from the Past,” it showcases hundreds of cars, trucks, and motorcycles on Delaware’s main drag and has earned a reputation as one of Ohio’s best downtown automotive extravaganzas . “Delaware shuts down Sandusky Street just for the show, and every year, it gets between 12,000 and 15,000 people,” says chairperson Jeff Brashares. While car owners covet the classic’s 6-foot-tall “Best of” trophies, spectators appreciate its family-friendly environment and the numerous shops and restaurants that are open during the show.
Cambridge Classic Cruise In August 18, 2018
The biggest one-day event in downtown Cambridge brings thousands of visitors to Wheeling Avenue (a.k.a. the Historic National Road). “The festive atmosphere really sells this show,” says chairperson Brian Stillion. “It’s like a big block party.” Headquartered at the majestic Guernsey County Courthouse, the Cruise In includes cars, trucks, motorcycles, tractors, and even riding mowers. “If it rolls on wheels, we’ll take it,” Stillion says.
Cruisin’ by the Bay Sandusky September 7–8, 2018
Presented by the Remember Cruisin’ Car Club of Northern Ohio, this popular charity event assists local cancer patients, and Sandusky closes off Columbus Avenue and other streets for more than 500 hot rods and classic cars that roll in. “Downtown Sandusky is a hard-to-beat car show venue,” says club president Mike Willinger. “The parks have big trees and beautiful flower beds, and Columbus Avenue ends at Sandusky Bay.” Other perks include Sandusky’s lively restaurant scene, Jet Express ferry rides, and the Merry-Go-Round Museum.

Central Ohio Car Shows, Cruise-Ins, and Meet-Ups Recap of the 2022 Season
It's that time of the year when the weather turns cold, the cars are put away for the winter, and we impatiently sit and wait for the next car show season to start. Reminiscing about the season that just finished is a great way to pass some of the time.
Before we begin our journey back through 2022, I must state the usual disclaimer that the opinions expressed here are mine and mine alone. They reflect the events I attended and the cars I saw in 2022. If you disagree with anything I post, please feel to express them in the comments section. If you encountered something particularly good or bad during the past season, please post that in the comment section as well.
With that out of the way, let's begin the journey back through 2022.
Some Statistics:
- More than 6000 photos of your cars, trucks, and motorcycles were posted to carshowtalk.com in 2022.
- From March through November, carshowtalk.com listed 995 events in the Central Ohio area which includes Marion on the north, Springfield on the west, Chillicothe on the south, and Newark on the east as boundaries.
- August had the most events with 232. November had the least with 18.
- I personally traveled to 21 different locations to participate in a car event. Der Dutchman in Bellville and the Historic Clifton Mill were the two farthest. Both exceeded 50 miles.
- There were 116,175 visits to carshowtalk.com from March through October. The week of August 22-28 had the most visits with 4845 . It kind of goes along with August having the most events.
I want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for supporting carshowtalk.com in 2022. It was the best year yet for the website.
Favorite Cruise-Ins/Meet-ups:
- Der Dutchman Cruise-In - I doubt anyone will argue that the weekly cruise-in at the Der Dutchman Restaurant in Plain City, Ohio isn't the best cruise-in in all of Central Ohio. This year 5449 cars attended the cruise-in from May through September. The weekly average of 259 vehicles was an all-time record. Wayne and Luella Nisly along with the restaurant staff do a great job of making the cruise-in a fun and relaxing way to spend a Thursday evening during the summer.
- Columbus Cars and Coffee Arena District Meet - There's something about seeing hundreds of classic, exotic, and muscle cars lined up in front of Nationwide Arena. This turns out to be my favorite Columbus Cars and Coffee meet each season. I got so carried away this year that I took close to 300 photos - most of any event.
- Jax Wax Street Madness - I didn't go to the two meet-ups this year, however, those that did go reported that the "Street Madness" name is by far the best description for the event. It's crazy and loud! The event has gotten so big the fall/Halloween meet moved from the airport to National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio. How you feel about the event will likely depend on your age. If you're under 40, you'll love it. Over 40 and you'll probably never go to another one again.
- Goodguys After Hours at the Crown Plaza , Hilton, and Quaker Steak and Lube - No discussion of cruise-ins/meet-ups would be complete without mentioning the after-hours gathering at these three locations during Goodguys weekend. There's definitely a party atmosphere at the Crown Plaza. The Hilton is a little more subdued and Quaker Steak and lube is just plain madness.
Favorite NO Registration Fee Judged Shows:
- Rod Knockers Car Club - The club's monthly show at the Rural King in Marion, Ohio continues to be the king of this category. If there's decent weather on the first Saturday of the month from April through October, you can expect well over 100 cars in attendance The club presents around 30 awards each month that always represent a different theme. There are door prizes and 50/50 raffles and music from the 50s/60s along with classic rock. You owe yourself to attend at least one Rod Knockers show during the season. It will only cost you the gas to get to Marion and back.
- Cruisin' with the King in 2022 - Runner-up in this category is the monthly show hosted by the Mid Ohio Cruisers Car Club at the Burger King on Rt 31 in Marysville, Ohio. On a good Saturday, attendance will push the 100 mark. At the end of the show, awards are presented to the club's "Favorite" 15 cars, trucks, and motorcycles. There are door prizes and 50/50 raffles and music from the 50s and 60s. And if you're hungry, there's Burger King right there.
- Summer Jubilee Car Show - Kuhlwein's Farm Market & Deli and the Vienna Door Company sponsored a registration-free judged show this summer at Kuhlwein's Farm Market in Hilliard, Ohio. With assistance from the Empty Pockets Cruisers Car Club, the event attracted 117 cars. Twenty-four awards were presented at the end of the show. Live entertainment was provided by Madeline Rose and the Thorns. There were several food trucks on site. However, the big hit was the free bratwurst sandwiches given out by Lehnerts Meats. I'm told by reliable sources Kulwein's and the Vienna Door Company plan to sponsor more shows like this in 2023.
Favorite Registration Fee Judged Shows:
This was a tough category for me to pick this year. As I looked back over the year, there were a lot of good shows in this category.
- Goodguys Summit Racing Nationals - Obviously Goodguys has to be included at the top of this list. It is the largest and most prestigious show in the area. We are blessed to have an event like this to look forward to every year. Receiving an All-American Sunday Award with my Camaro made this year's event even more special.
- Empty Pockets Cruisers Trunk or Treat - This show makes my Favorite list year after year. It seems to bring out the Halloween spirit in everyone that attends. More folks dress up in costumes and decorate cars than any other Trunk or Treat show in the area. The volume of children trick or treating is also impressive. This year my 350-piece bag of candy was emptied in record-setting time.
- Vettes, Rods, and Classics - This is another show that ranks at the top of my list every year. The Capital City Corvette Club does a great job as a host. Creekside in Gahanna, Ohio is a cool venue for a car show. There are a lot of places to sit and eat. The club presents 80 plus awards. I like that the Corvettes and rods and classics are judged independently of each other and that each category has its own Best of Show winner. This year saw the return of the band Reelin' In The Years for live entertainment. The Capital City Corvette Club can chalk up another successful show with lots of great cars.
- Spring Fling All Corvette Show - After a two-year hiatus due to Covid, the Spring Fling All Corvette show returned to Quaker Steak and Lube in Columbus, Ohio this past May. Hosted by the Chosen Few Corvette Club, the show attracts Corvette owners and clubs from all over the country. This year the show registered more than 300 Corvettes and presented 130 awards. If you own a Corvette, this is a show you'll want to attend.
- Auto Smarts Radio/C-Town Cruisers - I would be remiss if I didn't mention Boots and Auto Smarts Radio Cruise and Ride and Big Dawg and the C-Town Cruisers. Those two groups were involved in 50 Central Ohio car events in 2022. Add in the new kid on the block, Frank Russell, and Crossroad Events, and you have over 60 shows hosted by those three groups. Having 60 additional shows to choose from each season is a massive bonus for our area. I'm told it's unique to Central Ohio.
Favorite Ten:
Each year I pick my 10 favorite cars, trucks, and motorcycles I saw during the season. I try to limit the picks from Goodguys since one could easily select all ten from there. This year my favorite 10 only includes one car from Goodguys. The rest were all from local shows and cruise-ins.
Without further ado, here are my ten favorites in no particular order.
The Unusual, Unique, and Odd:
Each year vehicles show up at shows and cruise-ins that some might describe as unusual or unique while others call them odd. Here are some of the vehicles in 2022 that fit those descriptions.
This year we lost a number of fellow Central Ohio cruisers. They will all be missed.
Cruisers of the Year:
- This year's Cruiser of the Year Award goes to Jeff Tolley. Jeff participated in more than 170 events this season. And I thought my 80 was pretty good.
- Runner-up Cruisers of the Year goes to Jeff Shankle and Dave O'Brien. Both attended just under 160 events. Jeff also receives Photographer of the Year. It wasn't even a contest.
Other Notables:
- Best Restrooms - Delaware Christian Church
- Best Hamburger - Tolles Car and Craft Show
- Best "Live" Entertainment - Vettes, Rods, & Classics
- Worst Weather - The thunderstorms that roared through Central Ohio on July 23rd
- Best Door Prize - The bottle of booze that was part of the grand prize basket at Richwood Bank's Coffee and Cars.
- Tallest Best of Show trophy - Still Electric Mods, Rods, & Classic Car Show and Auto Smarts Radio Westerville Moose Lodge Car Show

Final Thoughts on 2022:
I want to thank all those who shared photos and information from events I wasn't able to attend. A special thanks goes to regular contributors Jeff Shankle, Dale Pearce, and Dave Bratton. Their weekly contributions helped carshowtalk.com reach a whole new level this year.
I'm going to take a few months off. I'll be back in February with the first edition of Save the Dates for 2023. The weekly list of events will resume again in April.
I wish everyone a happy and safe Holiday Season. I'll be leaving for my winter home the day after Christmas.
I'm going to end the year with the final lines from Ohio State University's Alma Mater:
The seasons pass the years will roll Time and change will surely show How firm thy friendship...OHIO!
The same can be said about a season of car shows. The friendships we make and the experiences we share with each other will roll on long after the season ends.
This slideshow captures my favorite moments from 2022. Enjoy! I'll see everyone next year.

Thank you so much for all the work you do. This is my go-to site for planning my car show weekends! We are blessed to have a very active car culture in Central Ohio. Have a safe Christmas season, and I anxiously await the first shows in 2023!
Thank you, Mark! I agree we have a very active car culture in Central Ohio. I know folks from other parts of the state might not agree but I think the Central Ohio car scene is the best in the state.
Kim, tremendous thanks once again. All of the info and pics were incredible again this year. Absolutely the best site in central Ohio and beyond.
Thank you, Marc. It's easy and fun to do something you love.
Kim Hawksworth, Jeff Shankle, Dale Pearce, and Dave Bratton... Thanks for all you do for car people! This website is the best around.
Information you provide on weekly car shows to pictures and captions after shows is the stuff, we car guys appreciate.
Wishing all a safe and happy Holidays, -Tom
Thanks, Tom! No question I have a great team of volunteers helping me. Stay safe and warm this winter. See you next spring.

Great site. will be waiting for next spring show listing. Hope you have a great warm winter and think of us as we brave the Ohio weather. Thank you so much for this site as it is my go to site.
Thanks, Glenn! After this past week, I'm looking forward to heading off to Florida. This winter might be a little different since half of New Smyrna beach ended up in the ocean thanks to hurricane Nicole.
I hope the storms have left for the winter . Enough damage already done. .
Wonderful Pictures! GREAT People! Thank You So MUCH!
Thank you, Michael. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Holiday season.
Nicely done, Kim! There are tons of people who appreciate the time and effort you put into this.
Thanks, Bryan! It was great to get to know you and Rick this year. Making new friends is the best thing about car shows.
I echo the rest Kim, thank you for this great resource and putting your own time and heart into it. I'm wishing the best in the holidays and off season. Looking forward to seeing you next year.
Thank you, Rick! Glad you find carshowtalk.com a great resource. That's always been the goal of the web site.

Thank you, Dale! You don't know how much I appreciated all your help this year. Enjoy the next few months without me hounding you about who got the best of show and how many cars registered.😎
Hope you and your family have a wonderful Holiday. Stay safe my friend. See you in 2023.
Kim another awesome job this year, you set the standard with your page. I have always referred to your listings but this year I had the privilege of getting to know you better and what a guy. I am blessed yet again to add you as a friend. The Old Goats, Love you buddy.
Thank you, Kenny! It was great to get to know you better this year along with many of the other Old Goats. One of the best parts of the car community is the folks you meet and the friends you make. Our love of cars is the bond that binds us together.
My friend, I hope you and your family have a great Holiday. Stay warm this winter. I look forward to seeing you again next May.
Great recap Kim! Even though I am no longer around to participate in the Ohio car scene, I still read your site every week just to see what's going on.
I hope you and the family have wonderful holidays and enjoy your time in Florida.
Hi Matt, Great to here you still follow the web site.
I meet of few other 6th ZL1 owners this summer. At the June Marysville Muscle meet-up there were three black ZL1s counting mine. What are the odds of that happening.
Hope all is going well with your new job. Hope you and Michelle have wonderful Holiday.
A big thank you to Kim and his helpful volunteers. I really enjoy this site and speaking with you at some of the shows. The central Ohio area is very fortunate to have someone like you to help promote our hobby and the beautiful cars and great people that attend these shows. I hope you and your family have a great holiday season and i look forward to next season.
Thanks, Mark! I enjoyed conversing with you at shows this year. Have a wonderful Holiday. Stay safe and warm and I'll see you in May.

Mom accused of leaving 2 young children home alone for days to go on cruise
The Houston woman was charged with abandoning a child with intent to return.
A Texas mother has been arrested after allegedly leaving her two young children home alone for days to go on a cruise, court records show.
Lakesha Williams, 29, of Houston, has been charged with abandoning a child with intent to return, a felony, according to a criminal complaint.
Neighbors at her high-rise apartment building reportedly saw Williams leave with luggage on April 4 but "never saw her return," according to the complaint.
A woman at the apartment complex reached out to law enforcement to request a wellness check because the neighbors were worried about the children's safety, according to the complaint.
Deputies conducted a welfare check on Tuesday, five days after Williams allegedly left, and found an 8-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl alone in the apartment, the complaint stated. The apartment was in "complete disarray," with trash and food strewn about and a "very potent smell of urine," the complaint stated.

The children reportedly told police that their mother left them on April 4 "to go on vacation on a cruise and they did not know when she would return," the complaint stated.
It did not appear that any adults had been supervising the children since then, according to the complaint. Williams allegedly used a video camera to watch and talk to the children during that time, and the boy had a phone he was using to text her, according to the complaint.
"These children were definitely left unattended for many days and put in serious harm's way," Keegan Childers, the chief prosecutor of the 209th District Court, told Houston ABC station KTRK .

Deputies tried contacting Williams to have her respond to the scene "but she was not cooperating and was switching up her story on her whereabouts," the complaint stated.
Williams was arrested on Thursday and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, online court records show. The records do not list any attorney information for her.

What Is The Difference Between A Car Show And A Cruise-In?
Car gatherings are a fun pastime experience that is a hobby for many. You see many different kinds of people with varying tastes and preferences in vehicles. They’re a great place to socialize with other people who appreciate the beauty of cars. But often times, you see on a flyer or an announcement that a certain car gathering is called either a “car show” or “cruise-in.” Many people wonder if there’s a difference at all between the two.
So, what is the difference between a car show and a cruise-in? Car shows are more formal and commonly require a fee for everyone involved. There are usually prizes as well as vendors, food, music and swap-meets. Cruise-ins are a lot less formal and mostly entail a smaller group of people gathering at a park or parking lot for a few hours with no fee involved.
It’s very common and quite easy to get confused between car shows and cruise-ins, but they essentially have the same goal in that they let people show off their classic car and let people share a common appreciation for such beautiful machines. I have attended hundreds of car shows, had several of my classic cars in car shows and cruise-ins, and have helped organize several shows. There’s a lot more to them than just their names.
What You Do At Car Shows and Cruise-Ins
Car shows are an excellent way to show off your ride. They’re also a great way to look at some beautiful cars and admire/day dream if you don’t happen to have a classic car for yourself.
Car shows can end up having thousands of people attending them, all entailing men, women, young, and old people alike. There’s usually something for everyone to keep busy at a car show. A lot of car shows have swap-meets with more than just car parts and paraphernalia, but also clothes, jewelry, sunglasses, etc. With the live music you usually hear at car shows, you can take your mind back in time as you look at machines that make you feel like you’re somewhere thirty years ago.
Car shows will often have several food vendors for you to choose from if you find yourself getting hungry. There are also also lots of treats to eat to make yourself or the littles happy. A lot of car shows also have a voting poll, letting spectators vote on their favorite cars per category. A car show can last for several days and at the end of the car show, judges will announce the winners from spectators’ votes and/or do a raffle and give out sought-after prizes.
Though cruise-ins aren’t as formal and may not have as many amenities as car shows, you still have a chance for having a wonderful time. Sometimes all the organization of a car show can be a bit stressful, so many prefer the low-key feel of a cruise-in. Anyone can walk in and out of the area as they please and admire the beautiful cars people have brought to show off.
There is still a chance for judging and prizes, though the prizes may not be as big or expensive as those at a car show. Cruise-ins usually only last for a few hours, commonly in the morning or in the evening. It’s a great way for classic car owners to admire each others’ cars and network about where to get car parts, reliable auto shops, and who to talk to if they’re interested in buying/selling.
Which Cars Are Eligible For Car Shows and Cruise-Ins
Really any car that is potentially interesting to look at is eligible for a car show or cruise-in. There are no specific standards as to what is and is not eligible to bring to shows like these. Car shows, however, may put a stop to people bringing in their 2007 Ford Fusion (just as an example) or other standard cars you can see in any other parking lot.
Old cars, brand new cars, souped-up cars, anything that could potentially be exciting for viewers to see are great for car gatherings. Sometimes cruise-ins and car shows will be for a specific make and model, so be sure to visit the car gathering’s website or read their flyer to make sure.
For car shows, you’ll usually need to pay a fee, probably between $10-$30, to register your car. Car shows will often have registrants and spectators pay a fee to compensate the employees and all the work that was put into organizing the show.
What To Bring To A Car Show or Cruise-In
If you are someone who is bringing a car to display at a car show or a cruise-in, there are a few things you can bring to make your experience as well as the audience’s experience more pleasurable.
The first item on your list you should bring is some cleaning supplies for your car. You want to make your car nice and shiny for people who are looking at it, but you still need to drive your classic car from your house to the show which will usually get your car a little dirty. Bring some lint-free micro fiber towels as well as some wax and some Windex so you can do a few spot cleans once you get your car parked. It’s also nice to bring some tire shine to give your tires that brand-new look.
If you are bringing a car to display, it’s also a good idea to bring a camping chair to sit in, some cold drinks, and some photos or a photo album of your car’s rebuilding process if you have them. People love seeing the process of an old rust bucket being brought back to life.
If you are a spectator, there are still a few things you should plan on bringing. Always bring cash with you. A lot of car shows won’t accept credit cards or checks, so cash would be your best bet. Contact the show organizer to see exactly how much it will be when you arrive. Also bring some extra cash in case you want to buy a treat or a meal; sometimes vendors don’t have credit card machines either.
It’s also a good idea to bring a lot of water with you if you plan on walking around looking at cars. Car shows and cruise-ins are usually held in the summer so it gets really hot. Apply sunscreen as well because you will definitely get sunburned if you don’t. If possible, wear sunglasses and a hat and wear the appropriate clothing to keep you cool; in other words, don’t wear a sweater and jeans.
How To Organize Your Own Car Show or Cruise-In
If you wish to organize your own car show or cruise-in, there are a few easy steps you can take to meet your goal. A lot of the steps depend on how big your want your show to be and how much time and money you’re willing to invest.
Planning a cruise-in won’t be as time consuming as planning a car show. First, you’ll need to pick a day for the cruise-in. Pick a time of year that is weather appropriate. Also try to find a day where there aren’t a lot of other activities going on around town that could lessen your audience.
Once you pick a day, find other people to help you out with organizing it. Make some flyers and post them on Facebook and around town. You can even make a free website from places such as Wix so people have a place to go to for more information. Most of your time should be spent advertising the cruise-in so you have as many attendees as possible.
Planning a car show is a little more demanding than planning a cruise-in. Consider all the steps recommended for planning a cruise-in in addition to networking and finding vendors as well as sponsors to help fund the car show. Calculate the price you will need to charge to car registrants and from spectators.
Related Questions
Can you take a non-running car to a car show? All classic cars, whether they’re running or not, are eligible for car shows. Many people take their project cars, which they’re still in the middle of rebuilding, to car shows to show off their progress they’ve made. It’s mostly just a matter of how you plan to get your classic car there.
How did car shows and cruise-ins get started? Car shows and cruise-ins started becoming popular in the 1980’s. Around this time is when some older cars started becoming classics and people started recognizing that. Groups started gathering their cars and displaying them in small shows. The idea became bigger and bigger as time went on.

He wasn’t feeling the Kenergy.
Ryan Gosling revealed he almost didn’t perform his viral song “I’m Just Ken” at this year’s Oscars , but was persuaded to do so because of his daughters’ love for Barbie.
The Canadian actor, who starred alongside Margot Robbie in the summer hit film, initially told the Academy he wasn’t interested in the live performance because anything could happen.
“100 percent no,” Gosling said during his appearance Thursday night on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
“There’s a lot of ways that could go wrong.”
Gosling, 43, eventually agreed to put on the show, complete with backup dancers, musician Mark Ronson, and a surprise appearance by legendary “Guns N’ Roses” guitarist Slash.
The performance has garnered hundreds of millions of views on social media, Spotify and Apple Music.
Gosling earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the Greta Gerwig film.
The father of two later shared what his daughters thought when he brought them to the dress rehearsal for his now-viral performance.
“Dad’s Ken-ning again,” Gosling joked.
The Golden Globes winner shares the two girls with “The Place Beyond the Pines” co-star Eva Mendes.
Gosling brought his daughters, 7 and 9 years old, to set to watch him play the Mattel doll-inspired character to give them context for what their father had been up to.
“It was their interest in Barbie and their disinterest in Ken that sort of started all of this,” the Ken actor admitted.
“It’s really been a team effort, and they were on the film and they came to set when I filmed the number,” Gosling said. “It’s also been like a lot of this has been no context for them, it’s just a lot of fake tan stains around the house.”
He said his performance last month was his daughters’ first concert but admitted they know the choreography and songs better than he does.
Gosling, who is hosting Saturday Night Live for the third time on Saturday, says a previous appearance of his on the long-running sketch show made Gerwig offer him the role of Ken.
“Alex Moffet wrote this sketch called ‘A Guy Who Just Joined SOHO House’ and the first line was like ‘Sergeant Blackout reporting for booty.'” he recalled.
“Who would’ve thought that Greta Gerwig was watching that going, ‘That’s my Ken.’
“Thank you, Alex, you got me a job.”

1 dead, several injured after driver in stolen 18-wheeler crashes into TX DPS office in Brenham: DPS
Authorities confirmed the suspect drove into the office on purpose a day after he was denied a commercial driver license.
BRENHAM, Texas (KTRK) -- One person was dead, and several people were seriously injured after a disgruntled commercial trucker allegedly rammed a stolen 18-wheeler into the Texas Department of Public Safety's Brenham office on Friday.
Authorities confirmed the incident came a day after the suspect, 42-year-old Clenard Parker, was denied a renewal of his commercial driver's license.
According to Texas DPS - Southeast Texas Region officials, the vehicle intentionally ran into the Brenham DPS Office at about 10:41 a.m.
SkyEye captured images of extensive damage to the front of the office and the 18-wheeler.
"This is a sad day for DPS and for all the people that were involved," Texas DPS Sgt. Justin Ruiz said during an afternoon press conference Friday.
Ruiz said Washington County deputies were pursuing Parker as he was driving the stolen vehicle along Highway 290 when he took a hard right turn into the DPS office.
At the time, there were 14 people in the DPS office. Investigators said of those, eight people were evaluated on-site and did not require further treatment. Three people were transported via ground to local hospitals. Three others were transported via air ambulance to two separate hospitals. One of the three transported via air later died.
DPS officials said Parker is from Chappell Hill, and he allegedly stole the 18-wheeler from a gas station in that town. Investigators were seen around Parker's home late into the afternoon.
Records show Parker has a criminal history with charges of criminal trespass and arson in 1999 and 2002.
"Parker did come to the DPS Brenham office (Thursday) at approximately 3 or 4 p.m. - where he was denied his commercial driver's license," Diaz said.
Staff members reportedly told Parker he was not eligible to renew his license.
Investigators advised people to avoid the area as the investigation into the crash continued.

Driver in fatal Texas crash was using Ford’s auto driving system, officials say
Investigators say data from electric Mustang Mach E shows ‘Blue Cruise’ was in use when SUV struck a stopped car in San Antonio
The driver of a Ford electric SUV involved in a February fatal crash in Texas was using the company’s partially automated driving system before the wreck, federal investigators said on Thursday.
Data from the 2022 Mustang Mach E SUV showed that Ford’s “Blue Cruise” driver-assist system was in use ahead of the 24 February crash, according to a preliminary report released by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
The crash is one of two recent fatal wrecks involving Ford Mustang Mach Es that are under investigation by the NTSB and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which often send teams to investigate incidents involving automated technology.
The NTSB can only make recommendations, but NHTSA has the authority to take action, including seeking recalls for safety issues.
In both cases, the Mach Es hit vehicles stopped on freeways at night, and neither the driver nor the system were able to prevent the collisions. Ford says on its website that its driving systems do not replace human drivers, who have to be ready to take control at any time.
A company spokesperson would not comment on the NTSB report on Thursday, deferring to a previous statement saying that Ford is cooperating in the investigations.
The Texas crash occurred on Interstate 10 in San Antonio. The NTSB report says the Mach E struck the rear of a 1999 Honda CR-V that was stopped in the middle of three lanes around 9.50pm. The 56-year-old driver of the CR-V was killed.
Another driver who was able to avoid the CR-V told investigators that neither its tail nor hazard lights were working at the time.
The agency said it intends to issue safety recommendations to prevent similar crashes. It has said it opened the inquiry due to continued interest in advanced driver assistance systems and how vehicle operators interact with the new technology.
The other crash involving a Mach E killed two people around 3.20am on 3 March in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Philadelphia.
The Pennsylvania state police said on Thursday that a Mach E was in the left lane when it struck a stationary Hyundai Elantra that earlier had collided with a Toyota Prius.
The Mach E hit the Hyundai, pushing it into the rear of the Prius. During the crash, the driver of the Prius, who was outside his vehicle, also was struck and thrown into the southbound lanes, the release said.
A police spokesperson said a person from the Hyundai was also on the roadway and was hit. Both victims, males aged 21 and 20, were pronounced dead at the scene.
A police news release on the crash says a criminal investigation is under way and a charge of homicide by motor vehicle while driving under the influence is possible against the 23-year-old woman driving the Mach E.
Ford’s Blue Cruise system allows drivers to take their hands off the steering wheel while it handles steering, braking and acceleration on highways. The company says the system isn’t fully autonomous and it monitors drivers to make sure they pay attention to the road. It operates on 97% of controlled access highways in the US and Canada, Ford says.
There are no fully autonomous vehicles for sale to the public in the US. Last year, General Motors’ Cruise self-driving car unit recalled all 950 of its cars following an accident in which one of its vehicles struck and dragged a pedestrian in San Francisco.
Both NHTSA and the NTSB have investigated multiple previous crashes involving partially automated driving systems, most involving Tesla’s Autopilot.
Tesla recently settled a lawsuit over a 2018 crash that killed an Apple engineer. In that case, Tesla maintained that the driver had failed to stay alert and take over driving before the crash. The settlement may have provided a blueprint for others suing over Autopilot.
Other companies have also struggled with attempts to produce self-driving or partially autonomous cars. Apple canceled its decade-long, multibillion-dollar effort to build a self-driving electric car earlier this year, following numerous setbacks in the program.
