Glory April 2-9, 2023. Spring Break - What were we thinking?

tcmagnum

Cool Cruiser

Hello.  I’m going to try and do a ‘Live’ once we get on the ship.  We’ll see how that goes.  If I get behind, I will catch up once home.  But first, a long explanation of how we came to book this cruise and our plans for the cruise…

Back in August, several of us were at a wedding (where I officiated) and started talking to our cousin/her husband who was taking her 2 high schoolers and 2 of their friends on a spring break cruise on Carnival.  One thing led to another.  My sister and I decided to join them.  My daughter-in-law then wanted to go.  Then her mom.  Then a sister-in-law.  So, by the time we were ready to book, we had 2 rooms being booked.

My sister and I decided to go for it, and we booked an Ocean Suite .  We want to see if we think it’s worth it for a bigger room with a balcony.  The other three decided to book an Aft-View Extended Balcony .  They decided to have three in a room but with a bigger balcony.  My cousin and her group are in 2 inside cabins on the 2nd or 3rd deck.  Excited to see if we use our balcony a lot (with this being a spring break cruise, I have a feeling we will be).  And curious to see if we like the bigger balcony with regular size cabin.

None of us have been on Carnival in many years.  We are regular Celebrity cruisers.  But when this was first booked by my cousin, it was a spring break treat for the kids.  And now adults are tagging along.  So, we have much to learn/see.  Our goals:  We are very much looking forward to ordering the Chocolate Molten Cake in the MDR - we are even thinking of ordering it for appetizer and dessert a few nights.  We will be in the casino many nights.  We go to Vegas every year and enjoy many games.  Don't expect to win big but  would like to have fun.  Drink package...Lol.  Snorkeling and Scuba Diving.  Relaxing in the sun with a good book.  Just relaxing being away from work and cold weather.

The two cabins with balconies – everyone did the drink package .  My cousin also got the drink package since they had booked her alone in a room and her husband in the other room with all the kids.  Lol…My sister/cousin/sister-in-law/I just got off a Celebrity cruise with the drink package and most of us saw the benefit.  So, we are hoping we make good use of the drink package this trip.

The teenagers all have internet packages (you know how teenagers are).  I have the premium internet package (might need to be in touch with office).  My cousin also did the premium internet package.  I don’t think anyone did any internet.

Getting there :  All but one of us live in Kentucky (in Louisville or just south of there in a small town).  The other lives on the east coast of Florida.  We are all driving Saturday – Leaving around 7:00am.  Around a 10.5-hour drive (better than the 12.5 drive to Tampa in February).  The plan is to check into our hotels (one in Slidell and one in West Bank/Gretna).  Grab something to eat.  Not sure about hitting anything in the French Quarter.  It will depend on how grumpy we are after the long drive.

We all joined AARP and used gift card s to pay for our cruise/internet/drink packages.  Loved saving 10%.  And very easy to do.  I even have some left on a gift card and plan on spending it on the ship.

My sister and I have booked a snorkeling excursion for one day.  And I think everyone but 3 of the teenagers are joining us.  I don’t think we are ‘cool’ enough for the 18-year-olds.  Lol.  Then my sister and I have the ‘beginners scuba diving’ excursion.  We are very excited to do this.  We both have taken this class before but separately and years ago.  We both want to take the time to get fully certified and this is a good step to take.  The others have a private beach resort book (privately booked not through ship).  Jamaica, we have nothing planned. The excursions all looked to have a ton of driving involved and none of us wanted to spend our time on buses.  So, we might stay on the ship and enjoy the drink package.  Or walk around the port.  Who knows.  Most of us have been to Jamaica before, so not too worried about it.

When we checked in my sister/I was waitlisted for anytime dining .  But one of the perks to booking a suite is ‘preferred dining time’.  And overnight, we were moved from waitlist to confirmed anytime dining.  Very happy with that perk.

The five of us all got a check in time of 10;00/10;30, so we plan on getting to the port parking lot by 9:30.  Suites get preferred boarding and the other 3 bought the ‘Faster to the Fun’ pass, so they should be able to get on pretty close to us.  We don’t care if we get to stay in our rooms right away. But we do plan on trying to drop off our carry-on bags.  Then heading to bar for a drink or three.   My cousin and her group got a 10:30/11:00 check in time.   They will be meeting us on the ship once they are settled.

The packing has started.  We have a rule in our group:  You can bring as much luggage as you want, but you must be able to control/move your own bags.  Not much of an issue getting on the ship because the porters are right there.  But we do ‘self dis-embarkment’ at the end of the cruise and we do need to think about the amount of luggage at that time.  And I am the biggest over-packer of them all.  But this is my daughter-in-law’s first cruise, so she may pack more than me.  Lol…

I'll be getting on Glory the 16th.  Usually go in the spring and I've never been bothered by spring breakers.  Except for embarkation and debarkation, everyone usually pretty spread out around the ship.  In my 60's btw.

Have a great trip, good luck in the casino!

May the odds be ever in your favor!

I'm thinking this sounds like a fun cruise!

Sounds like a very fun time!  Will be following along!

Have a great time! We are on Glory May 14th! Looking forward to your review!

We'll be on Glory aug 13. Different ports.

We're also driving to NO from a distance. But we're staying in Hattiesburg ms and diving the last <2 hours morning of.

But we haven't decided what arrival time to try for.  Looking forward to your report, maybe it'll help us figure it out.

Have fun!! I’m following along. I’m sure we’ll have spring break cruises in our future as our kids get older. May the odds be in your favor!

Btw, if you happen to notice port arrival times for FTTF and if they're allowing early arrival for them, please let us know.  I purchased FTTF for my cruise. I expect to get a fairly early time by staying up late tonight for check-in, but who knows!

Aloha. Have a wonderful time. Enjoy!

Princess Cruises' Star Princess ship delayed, 9 sailings canceled

cruises april 2 9

Travelers will have to wait longer than planned to sail on Princess Cruises’ upcoming ship.

The delivery of Star Princess, which was set to debut next summer, will be pushed back by about two months. The cruise line said the delay was a “mutual” decision with shipbuilder Fincantieri.

“Following a comprehensive review of the remaining construction milestones, both parties have elected to adjust the ship's delivery date from July 29, 2025 to September 26, 2025, which will result in the cancellation of the nine inaugural sailings,” Princess said in a news release .

Guests whose cruises are impacted will be able to rebook on any Princess ship and, depending on which sailing they pick, receive future cruise and onboard credits. They will also be able to opt for a full refund of their fare instead.

“Despite our collective dedication and relentless pursuit to deliver the ship in late July, it has become evident that additional time is required to ensure the Star Princess is delivered to the highest standards expected by our guests,” Princess Cruises President John Padgett said in the release.

Your cruise was canceled: Now what?

The ship’s new inaugural itineraries will include 11 and seven-day Mediterranean cruises on Oct. 4 and 15, 2025, respectively. Those will be followed by a two-week transatlantic voyage to Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Oct. 22, 2025.

Those sailings will be available to book on April 30.

Star Princess will be the second in the line’s Sphere Class. Sister ship Sun Princess was also delayed ahead of its launch earlier this year, with Princess citing “additional technical work” needed at the shipyard.

pete-alonso-new-york-mets-usatsi.jpg

The Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers meet in a matinee on Friday for a key American League Central Division matchup in Detroit. The Royals (16-10), who are 13-8 against right-handed starters this season, are 7-6 in day games in 2024. The Tigers (14-11), who are 10-11 against righties, are 9-8 during the day. Detroit has had Kansas City's number of late, winning 10 of 13 games against the Royals a year ago.

The game is slated to begin at 1:10 p.m. ET from Comerica Park. Kansas City is batting .237 as a team this season, 18th best in MLB, while Detroit is hitting .221, 25th-best. Detroit is the -126 favorite on the money line (risk $126 to win $100) in the latest Royals vs. Tigers odds from SportsLine consensus, while the over/under for total runs scored is down to 7.5. Before making any Tigers vs. Royals picks, be sure to see the MLB predictions and betting advice from SportsLine's proven computer model .

The SportsLine Projection Model simulates every MLB game 10,000 times. It enters Week 5 of the 2024 MLB season on a profitable 110-85 run on top-rated MLB picks dating back to last season, and it has excelled on top-rated run-line picks during that span, going 19-7 (+737). Anybody following has seen huge returns.

Now, the model has set its sights on Tigers vs. Royals and just locked in its picks and MLB predictions. You can head to SportsLine now to see the model's picks . Here are several  MLB odds  and betting lines for Royals vs. Tigers:

  • Royals vs. Tigers money line: Kansas City +107, Detroit -126
  • Royals vs. Tigers over/under: 7.5 runs
  • Royals vs. Tigers run line: Detroit -1.5 (+188)
  • KC: The Royals have a plus-39 run differential through the first 26 games in 2024
  • DET: The Tigers have hit the money line in 68 of their last 135 games (+12.85 units)
  • Royals vs. Tigers picks: See picks at SportsLine

Why you should back the Tigers

Detroit is expected to send right-hander Reese Olson (0-3, 3.80 ERA) to the mound and he'll be backed by an offense that is heating up. Center fielder Matt Vierling helps power the Detroit offense. He is coming off a 2-for-4 effort with a triple in Wednesday's 7-5 loss at Tampa Bay. In 22 games this season, he is batting .273 with three doubles, one triple, one homer, four RBI and 10 runs scored. He played in 134 games last year for the Tigers and hit .261 with 21 doubles, five triples, 10 homers and 44 RBI. In 11 career games against Kansas City, he is hitting .275 with a double, triple, home run and nine RBI.

Left fielder Mark Canha has been solid at the plate for the Tigers. He has hits in seven of the past 10 games, and has a four-game hitting streak. In the series at Tampa Bay, he was 6-for-12 with a double, two homers and five RBI. For the season, Canha is hitting .259 with six doubles, five homers, 14 RBI and 12 runs scored. In 21 career games against the Royals, he is a .250 hitter with six doubles, one homer and seven RBI.  See which team to pick here .

Why you should back the Royals

Right-hander Seth Lugo (3-1, 2.03 ERA) will start for Kansas City. Lugo has gone at least six innings in four of five starts, including seven in a 2-0 win over the Chicago White Sox on April 15. In that game, he scattered four hits and one walk, while striking out four. He picked up an 11-2 win over Houston on April 10, pitching six innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts. He has faced the Tigers just once in his career, going 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA.

Catcher Salvador Perez has been on a roll, with hits in eight of the past 10 games, including a four-game hitting streak. In 24 games this season, he is batting .352 with four doubles, six homers, 23 RBI and 11 runs scored. He was 6-for-13 in the four-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays this past week. Perez has always hit Tigers pitching well. In 94 career games against Detroit, he is batting .269 with 18 doubles, one triple, 22 homers and 66 RBI. See which team to pick here .

How to make Royals vs. Tigers picks

SportsLine's model is leaning Over on the total, projecting 8.8 combined runs. It also says one side of the money line has all the value. You can only get the model's MLB picks at SportsLine .

So who wins Tigers vs. Royals, and which side of the money line should you back? Visit SportsLine now to see which side you need to jump on, all from the model that's 110-85 on top-rated MLB picks , and find out.

Moderate Republicans look to stave off challenges from the right at Utah party convention

SALT LAKE CITY — Moderate Republicans, who often have been successful with Utah voters, will look to stave off farther-right challengers at Saturday’s state GOP convention, which typically favors the most conservative contenders.

All eyes are on the crowded race to succeed U.S. Sen. Mitt Romney , the state’s best-known centrist Republican, who often made waves for opposing former President Donald Trump and other leaders of the party.

Delegates at the convention will select the party’s nominee, though there is no guarantee their pick will win the June primary and end up on the ballot in November.

The pool of nearly a dozen Republicans vying to replace Romney includes a congressman, a former state legislative leader and the lawyer son of Utah’s longest-serving U.S. senator. While some have sought to align themselves with farther-right figures such as Trump and Utah’s other senator, Mike Lee, others have distanced themselves in an effort to appeal to the widest swath of voters.

“This seat gets to be sort of a flashpoint between the two major factions of the party in the state,” Utah State University political scientist James Curry said. “On one hand you have the more moderate faction that Romney really embodied, not just here but nationwide, versus the more pro-Trump faction that often hasn’t been as successful with Utah voters when there’s been a viable moderate option.”

Among the top contenders are former state House Speaker Brad Wilson and U.S. Rep. John Curtis .

Wilson, 55, has endorsed Trump’s reelection bid and promises to be a “conservative fighter” on Capitol Hill.

Curtis, 63, who is seen as the more moderate of the two, has been compared to Romney for pushing back against hardliners in his party, particularly on climate change .

Wilson will likely appeal to convention delegates, who tend to be more conservative, while Curtis could have broader appeal among primary voters, Curry said.

Both already have collected enough signatures to qualify for the primary regardless of Saturday’s outcome, but the winner could leverage that to boost their campaign.

Republican Party nominations historically have had little bearing on who Utah voters choose to represent them, however.

Nominees for governor, Congress and other offices also will be selected Saturday.

How to Choose the Best River Cruises in 2024

Are you in search of an alternative to them that would allow you to travel the route in a new way without any difficulties? Are you one of those people who wants to do it all at a relaxed pace, all the while freshly visiting new places and cultures? River cruises may just exactly be the right choice for you. In this article, we will tell you everything you should know regarding the selection of the best river cruises for the luxuary coach holidays and also offer you some tips on how to upgrade your experience on the river. At the end of this article, you will be equipped with the tools for choosing the best river cruise.

Step 1: Select the Proper Location

The first place would be deciding which river cruise you want to be on. River cruises are available almost everywhere in the world, and some of the most widely used routes every year are navigated in Europe, Asia, and the USA. Explore the things that appeal to you and like the type of nature and culture that you want.

Step 2: Decide on the Duration and Price

The length of the river cruises is always different, it could only be for a couple of days to several weeks. Don’t limit yourself to a certain time frame, and organize your journey based on how many days you have available. For a person who wants to get a little bit of vacation, short cruises are recommended, and for someone who is aiming to enjoy the culture of the place and see every attraction, longer cruises are recommended.

Step 3: Pick the Best Cruise Company

Some cruise lines give a completely different experience than others. Some, in turn, can be undeniably of the high-end or personalized nature, whereas others aim at more budget-friendly tourists. Check different cruise organizations online and read reviews to pick the one that meets your requirements and price. Find cruise lines that offer neat and clean rooms, tasty food menus and diverse entertainment programs both when at sea and on land.

Step 4: Look for the Season

The travel season you take into account to go for a river cruise has a significant weight on your encounter. One of the seasons can offer different and new views and angles for more exploring. Take, for instance, springtime in Europe gives a great sight of blossoming landscapes, and in fall, the fall cruises come with beautiful colours and harvest festivals. Keep the climatic conditions and rainy or sunny activities of your destination in mind while planning your tour.

Step 5: Check the plan of the trip schedule

Ensure that the cruise itinerary you review carefully caters to what you want out of the cruise by including the sights and activities you desire to take part in. Consider the ports of call and the duration for which the ship will be in each port. Be aware of the time you have in each port to see the most. It is of paramount importance to consider the time factor so that the tour is not rushed through the different destinations.

Step 6: Learn about Offshore Expeditions

Of course, offshore journeys form an indispensable part of any river cruise excursion. Seek cruises that feature many different kinds of excursions, including escorted city tours, cultural outings, and various other activities to be enjoyed outdoors. Such a walk might greatly enhance your stay and enable you to discover the real masterpieces of the town from a totally different perspective.

Step 7: Search for special offers and deals.

If you are considering a cruise vacation, you should first cast your eye on special discounts and packages that most cruise companies offer. Try and spell out special offers for lodging, dining and tours. Additionally, booking in advance also makes it likely that you are able to purchase the best prices and seats.

Step 8: Pack Accordingly

When it comes to putting things into your suitcase for river cruising, it differs from other instances of travelling. You can not deny that you will be passing through varying climates and environments. So, make sure you have variable clothing and layers that you can put on.

Step 9: Take an Advantage of the Onboard Experience

River cruises are full of exclusivity, available amenities, and many fun things to experience. Take advantage of the great quality food and wonderful entertainment amenities offered to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. If you are looking for a cruise, the majority will offer cultural programs such as cooking classes or lectures that can flush you with the value of the places you are admiring.

Step 10: Set Your Next Journey.

After you’ve discovered the beauty and comfort of the river cruising, you could probably choose the topic of your next adventure. While the destination on your next river, regional, or even cruise type might change, you’ll be well-equipped for future trips.

River cruises provide a different way -they are peaceful and tranquil environments- for world exploration. By doing as detailed in this article, you will have a chance to choose the best river cruise in 2024 and will also enjoy it perfectly. Keep in mind that going for the exclusive coach holidays and shore excursion can add to the experience and make it even more gripping. After all planning, your cruise will leave a lasting memory of beautiful landmarks, amazing cultural activities, and moments of relaxation that you never thought would be possible.
