Dodge Journey Trim Levels Explained

You've made the decision that it's time to purchase a crossover SUV. You like the  Dodge Journey , but you're also not quite sure  which of the Dodge Journey trim levels you should choose . Fear not. Although the 2016 Dodge Journey is an excellent choice no matter which trim level you select, we've compiled this brief guide to help you decide.

2016 Canada Value Package or CVP

Seven-passenger seating is available as an option. The CVP isn't smaller than any of its brothers, but two rows of seats are the norm. If you're looking for two rows plus cargo room, this won't be a problem. If you're looking for three rows of seating for seven people, either pick the option or consider the SE Plus.

Journey SE Plus

The  Journey SE Plus  provides some upgrades in comfort as well as seating.  If you're looking to transport people on a regular basis, the vehicle can handle this well with its 2nd row 60/40 tilt 'n slide easy-entry seats and 3rd row 50/50 folding reclining seat system.  It's easy to get into the 3rd row and it can be done from both sides.

You also get amenities like a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, illuminated front cup holders to ensure your drink doesn't end up on the floorboard at night, and air conditioning with tri-zone temperature control so third-row passengers are comfortable too. Exterior heated mirrors, LED tail lamps, and deep-tint sunscreen glass also come standard. If your priority is passenger transport, the SE Plus deserves a look.

Dodge Journey SXT: Increased Power and Conveniences

Move over to the  Journey SXT  and the first thing you'll notice is a choice of engines. You can either have the 2.4-litre four-cylinder, or you can select the optional 3.6-litre V-6 with 283 horpower and a six-speed automatic transmission.

Fog lamps, automatic headlights, passenger assist handles, a security alarm, and a 115-volt power outlet are all standard. So are dual bright exhaust tips if you select the V-6, a trip computer with temperature and compass readout, sun visors with illuminated vanity mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and an interior observation mirror just in case your passengers might get a bit unruly. If you're looking for increased power and have children to transport, consider the Journey SXT.

The Crossroad FWD: Leather and Comfort at a Reasonable Price

Slide into the cabin of the Crossroad FWD and you'll immediately notice the upgrades. The seats are leather-faced, have Light Slate Grey accent stitching, and sport mesh inserts. You get a power 10-way driver's seat with four-way power lumbar adjust, Dodge's  Uconnect  system multimedia centre with 8.4-inch touchscreen and six speakers, and SiriusXM satellite radio with one-year subscription.

If you need more space, the Crossroad FWD also comes with Flip 'n Stow forward fold-flat front-passenger seat with in-seat storage. Throughout the compartment, Liquid Graphite accents can be seen.

Outside, your  Journey  has been upgraded to 19-inch Hyper Black aluminum wheels. Black headlamp and tail lamp surrounds. A body-colour fascia with Platinum Chrome insert, front and rear aimable LED lamps, and a gloss black grille are all standard equipment. It also comes with a suspension tailored for touring, meaning you and your passengers are cradled as you drive.

Journey Limited: The Word is Luxury

The 3.6-litre V-6 comes standard on the Limited, along with 19-inch aluminum wheels. It comes with a heated steering wheel and heated seats, remote start, quad halogen headlamps, and a rear window wiper-washer.

Both driver and front passenger have LED lamps, and three 12-volt outlets, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror with microphone, and a cargo net.

Options include a Trailer Tow Prep Group if you're looking to transport a trailer or small boat, a Navigation and Back-Up Camera Group if you're looking for additional safety, and a Rear Seat Video Group to keep passengers entertained on long trips. The Limited is for those who need cargo capacity, yet need space for passengers both young and old.

The Journey R/T, R/T Rallye, and Crossroad AWD: Built for Performance

Both the Journey R/T and the R/T Rallye share important characteristics: the V-6 is standard with the six-speed transmission, 19-inch aluminum wheels, and safety features including rear park assist.

But there are some cosmetic and mechanical differences. The R/T's suspension is a performance suspension, while the Rallye version is a high-performance suspension with no side roof rails and crossbars.

The Crossroad AWD

gives you all-wheel drive, keyless entry, remote start, rear park assist, and leather-faced seating. It has platinum chrome side roof rails, body-colour power heated exterior mirrors, and the 3.6-litre V-6 under the hood. If you're looking for top-level comfort combined with horsepower, the Limited should be your choice considering it has almost all the Journey's options as standard.

Of course, reading about the 2016  Dodge Journey  is only part of the puzzle.  Schedule a test drive today  and decide which trim level is right for you. As The Car Connection wrote, "… the Journey is a solid family pick, and one of the least-expensive ways to get a third-row seat.

  • Lows Uninspired styling, dismal driving dynamics, needs driver-assist tech.
  • Verdict Practical for families with a budget, but ultimately disappointing.

What's New for 2020?

Dodge cuts down the number of available trims on the Journey from three to just two for 2020: the SE Value and the Crossroad. The other notable cuts are the absence of all-wheel drive and the optional V-6 engine that were paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. The only powertrain available is now the antiquated 172-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder that is paired to a four-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. Buyers can look forward to the addition of standard rear park assist to all models as well as a standard sunroof for the Crossroad trim level. Dodge also streamlines the option-picking process with the introduction of the Popular Equipment Group which bundles many features together, depending on trim level. In the SE Value trim, the package gives you a six-way power-adjustable driver's seat, Uconnect with Voice Command and Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, three-zone climate control, security alarm, and a leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel. The Crossroad's Popular Equipment Group adds a universal garage door opener, remote start, heated front seats and steering wheel, navigation, and a six-speaker sound system with a subwoofer. Dodge has announced that the Journey will finally come to an end after the 2020 model year.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The price of the 2020 Dodge Journey starts at $25,170 and goes up to $30,090 depending on the trim and options.

With the absence of the V-6 and all-wheel drive for 2020, the rental-fleet-inspired SE Value version is our pick from the Journey lineup. With minimal options to choose from and minimal value added from the Popular Equipment Group at this level, we'd skip everything and stick with the bare-bones Journey.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The Journey SE and Crossroad trims come with an underpowered four-cylinder engine that's best avoided—except you can't, since the V-6 is no longer offered. The 172-hp engine is woefully underpowered and the four-speed automatic transmission that's reluctant to downshift further dulls its real-world performance.

There are not many three-row crossovers that are entertaining to drive, so their ride and handling are graded on a curve. Even so, the Journey's ponderous handling and unresponsive transmission leave it far from getting a good rating from us. It wallows in corners with lots of body roll and imprecise steering. The benefit of this softness, however, is a comfortable ride on the freeway.

2020 Dodge Journey rear

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The four-cylinder engine has the worst EPA ratings among competitors with similar powertrains, with 19 mpg in city driving and 25 mpg on the highway. By comparison, the 2019 Honda CR-V is rated at 26 city and 32 mpg on the highway, while the 2019 Toyota C-HR is rated at 27/31.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The Journey's interior is far from upscale, but its simple controls are user-friendly. Getting anyone to fit in the third row—even children—requires those in the second row to compromise their legroom. Cheap-feeling bits such as a plasticky shifter and hollow-sounding interior door-trim panels are especially egregious on the priciest version. Several luxury features including a power-adjustable passenger seat, cooled seats, and heated rear seats are notable in their absence from the options list.

Practicality is one of the few areas where the Journey shines: its interior is easily configurable and it has tons of cubby storage for odds and ends, even if its total cargo capacity isn't as large as some competitors. You can fold down the 50/50-split third row and the 60/40-split second row to expand the available cargo space, although the Journey offers the least amount of total cargo space of the vehicles in this class. In addition to the expected compartments in and around the console, there's also a generously sized bin under the front-passenger seat cushion, as well as two large underfloor compartments in the second row.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Although every model features an easy-to-use touchscreen, the system has fewer features than many other Dodge products. Likewise, the larger screen is responsive, but we wish Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability were offered here. There's also only a single USB port up front—not great for the device-happy spawn likely to inhabit the back seats.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Overall safety rating (nhtsa).

The Journey's lackluster safety report card reveals that it's not the best choice when it comes to sheltering your precious onboard cargo. Its crash-test results are not great, and—what's worse—it offers none of the advanced driver-assistance technology that is expected in other family haulers. The only available safety feature is rear parking sensors.

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Dodge's warranty coverage is average, and Journey buyers won't enjoy complimentary scheduled maintenance.

  • Limited warranty covers 3 years or 36,000 miles
  • Powertrain warranty covers 5 years or 60,000 miles
  • No complimentary scheduled maintenance

2017 Dodge Journey: What's Changed

By Rick Popely

  • Most significant changes: GT replaces R/T model.
  • Price change: Base prices are $150 higher on all models. The destination charge is $100 higher at $1,095.
  • On sale: Early September
  • Which should you buy, 2016 or 2017? 2016

A new GT model replaces the R/T as the most-expensive version of the Dodge Journey , an SUV that offers the choices of seats for five or seven and front- or all-wheel drive.

The GT is equipped similarly to the R/T and comes with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine, performance suspension, leather seats, monochromatic exterior, 19-inch aluminum wheels and a six-speaker, 368-watt sound system. Base prices on the GT are $33,040 with front-wheel drive and $34,940 with all-wheel drive, $250 higher than last year’s R/T (all prices include destination).

Base prices also are up $250 on the SE, SXT and Crossroad models, which return with few changes. A 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine is standard on all but the GT trim, and the 3.6-liter V-6 is optional. Front-drive models with the 2.4-liter use a four-speed automatic transmission, and V-6 and all-wheel-drive models get a six-speed automatic. Three rows of seats are standard on all versions except the base SE, where seats for five are standard and the third row is optional.

As a midsize crossover, the Journey competes with a herd of five- and seven-passenger SUVs including the Honda CR-V and Pilot , Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport , Kia Sorento , Toyota Highlander and RAV4 , and others, all of which are based on newer designs. The Journey offers flexible seating, cargo arrangements, and the easy-to-use Uconnect infotainment system with an 8.4-inch touch-screen, and is reasonably priced. However, performance from both engines and the outdated four-speed automatic transmission leave much to be desired compared to its rivals.

R/T vs crossroad

Hi everyone I decided to take the journey after searching for a small 7 passenger.

I like the look of the crossroad with the black wheels and crome roof bar.

My question is what do I get more on the RT?

I'm in middle of ordering one but for some reason I see the RT is sill more expensive even after adding all features to the crossroad

Welcome to the forum. One post is enough.

Lol I didn't really by clicking 3 times it's happening 3 post. Then I couldn't remove it....... Sorry

As far as the "what do I get with the RT" question, check Dodges website and look at the differences between the models.

I'm looking on the Web site there isn't any different in can see. I guess the RT have something more. But maybe I'm ready to give it up for the look of the crossroad.....

What's the price difference? My 2014 R/T Rallye AWD retailed for $31,300 according to the window sticker (I bought it very lightly used and bought it when the dealer was having a sale on bunch of used SUVs). It has red stitched seats and steering wheel, 19" anthracite wheels, body color grille and door handles, R/T sport-tuned suspension, roof rails deleted. Some of these are unique to the Rallye appearance package, including the black headlight buckets.

I bought my Journey because it fit all my needs for an amazing price, and looked cool to boot with the Rallye package. If I was going to order one from the factory, though, I'd get the Crossroad and then look into having the grille blacked out and the chrome-ish trim on the front fascia blacked out as well (not sure if it is already... I just hate the chrome grille on non-Rallye and non-Blacktop Journeys, and the front trim on the Crossroad is awkward to me). I like its wheels the best, and I wish my R/T had the lower side rails and darker tail lights. I might look into adding them down the road.

You must not have looked very hard. From the Dodge website: DJ R/T standard equipment: Included Features ■3.6L V6 24-Valve VVT Engine ■Six-Speed AutoStick Automatic Transmission ■Up to 25 HWY MPG+ ■Unique Monochromatic Exterior Look with Premium 19-Inch Satin Carbon Aluminum Wheels ■Premium Perforated Black Leather Interior with Red Accent Stitching ■Heated Front Seats and a Heated Steering Wheel ■Premium 368-Watt Sound System with Subwoofer Crossroads standard equipment: Included Features ■2.4L I4 DOHC 16-Valve Dual VVT Engine ■Four-Speed AutoStick Automatic Transmission ■Up to 26 HWY MPG+ ■19-Inch Hyper Black Aluminum Wheels and 225/55R19 All-Season Touring Tires ■Leather-Trimmed Seats with Sport Mesh Inserts and Light Slate Gray Accent Stitching ■Black Leather-Wrapped Steering Wheel and Shift Knob ■Light Slate Gray Accent Stitching on the Center Console Armrest and Premium Door Panels ■Exclusive Liquid Graphite Accents on the IP, Gauge Cluster, Center Console, Door Pulls and Steering Wheel Click the little ! icon beside the model. Pretty simple.

Sounds like the major differences are visual styling. The V6, 6 speed, and AWD have to be added if they're desired (and I definitely wanted them). R/T guarantees you the mechanical goodies, and gives you a sporty look. Crossroad is optional and gives a different unique look and feel.

A loaded crossroad is the same price as a loaded rt.

I looked at the Canadian dodge.ca web site and it shows in order of trim level the crossroad Awd having a higher starting price then the RT

I think it's more a styling preference at that point.

CrossRoad14,

I like the looks of the Crossroad, I think most buyers will take a step back and decide on appearance as the the R/T is similar in so many ways.

  • 3 weeks later...

I agree, I bought the cross road based on power options and appearance. Over the sxt or rt

dhh3

I think that the sunroof is only available on the R/T. My Crossroad interior seems to be a mix of the R/T and Limited.

For Canada, the sunroof is an available option ($1295) on all 2015 models except CVP/SE PLUS.

Car Compare

Using the Compare Cars tool on the CarBuzz website is both easy and convenient, allowing for a side-by-side comparison of each car’s price, performance, specs, and on-board technology, as well as vital information such as vehicle size and fuel economy. Why wade through lengthy brochures when you can easily weigh up the options online, here?

With our vehicle comparison tool, you can select 2 cars from various brands, models, or years to determine the best deals and ensure you get the most value for your money. Since the experts at CarBuzz have done all the hard work for you and compiled their findings in an easy-to-read manner, all that’s left for you to do is peruse our site to find the best car for your needs.

Comparing Newest Cars

The process of sorting through a shortlist of vehicles to compare can be daunting as there is so much data to find, decipher, and weigh up, especially within the broad automotive landscape in the USA. But, with this instrument, you can compare two cars, or even two models within the same range, to easily identify the elements that suit you best. Compare car prices, features, or compare specifications of similar cars quickly and easily to help make your purchasing decision a breeze. And, not only can you compare new cars, but if you’re looking at buying a used version, older models can be evaluated too.

How to Use the Compare Cars Tool

Here are the four easy steps to using our tool:

Step 1: Select the First Car: Select the make, model, and year of the first vehicle you would like to analyze from left-side drop-down menus.

Step 2: Select the Second Car: In the same way, pick the vehicle you want to weigh up against the first from the available list, and then click on the red ‘start comparison’ button.

Step 3: Compare: Scroll down the page and browse the relevant sections you want to pore over - an overview provides quick references to important characteristics such as gas mileage, seating capacity, and cargo volume. Key points, such as performance comparisons between cars, will be shown in neighboring blocks for easy reading.

How can I compare cars on Carbuzz?

Our website offers the most user-friendly comparison of specs for new cars on its site. Simply navigate to the ‘Car Comparisons’ link in the header menu, and you will be able to choose whichever vehicle you'd like to scrutinize.

Can I compare different car models?

Yes. You are able to not only select competing makes, but you can also stack up models within the same range - for example, you could highlight the Audi A5 Coupe and compare it to the Audi A5 Sportback, and see which car better suits your needs.

How do I compare car prices?

When you compare cars side-by-side, the MSRP of each vehicle is listed right at the top of the comparison table; you are also able to click on the link to the full review, where the dedicated pricing section explains costs, optional extras, and total outlay per vehicle.

Can I compare the features of each automobile?

Absolutely. There is a specific category that elaborates on what is available optionally and that which comes standard per trim level, broken down into infotainment, interior trim, comfort, and safety aids.

What Is the Difference Between a Dodge Journey SE and the Journey SXT?

There are many differences between the 2015 Dodge Journey SE and Journey SXT, including the price and various optional features. The Journey SE has a recommended price of $23,395, while the Journey SXT is slightly more expensive at $25,195 as of 2015.

Another difference between the two models is that the Journey SXT features satellite radio, in addition to the standard AM/FM radio, CD player and MP3 player found on both models.

While both models come standard with a 2.4-Liter I4 DOHC 16-Valve Dual VVT engine, the Journey SXT can come with the optional 3.6-Liter V6 24-Valve VVT engine. Other optional features available on the Journey SXT and not on the Journey SE include heated seats and touring suspension.

Both models also have different types of optional wheels, with the Journey SE coming with optional 17-Inch by 6.5-Inch aluminum wheels. Customers also have the option to purchase 19-Inch by 7-Inch aluminum wheels. However, the SE comes with optional painted aluminum 19-inch wheels, whereas the optional 19-inch wheels on the SXT are chrome clad aluminum instead of painted.

Another difference between the two is that only the Journey SE comes standard with manual foldaway power heated mirrors, while the SXT only features standard side mirrors.

Moscow Vs. St. Petersburg - which to chose?

10 Differences Between Moscow and Saint Petersburg

Published: May 17, 2014

I recently returned from a trip to Moscow, included as part of my study abroad program in St. Petersburg , and have been inspired to write a comparison of Russia’s two biggest cities! As a disclaimer, I have visited Moscow twice, for a total of 6 days and visited St. Petersburg 4 times, (and it is where I currently live) for a total of 6 months. Clearly, I have had more time to form an opinion of St. Petersburg, but I believe that from my experiences, along with input I’ve gathered from people who live, work, and study in both cities, I have managed to come to a balanced conclusion.

Many people opined that Moscow is flashier than Petersburg, and when it comes to going out on the town, I agree. For everyday street wear, though, I saw a big difference in women’s attire. In Moscow you are much more likely to see jeans, whereas in Petersburg skirts and tights are more common. Moscow women more frequently wear tennis shoes (including the high-heel version) and Petersburg women are almost always in heels – from the women walking into the ritzy bridal salon on Nevsky to the woman working behind the counter at the post office. In this respect, Petersburg is more posh to Moscow’s shock-and-awe glitz and trend following.

*In general, Russian women dress up much more than their American counterparts. Every occasion outside the home from grocery shopping to picking the kids up from school calls for a carefully crafted look from head to toe. Russians are not at all lazy dressers and most wouldn’t be caught dead in public in sweatpants or without makeup.

Architecture

This is a big factor that anyone would notice! Saint Petersburg is chock full of palaces, classical architecture, and pastel colors. While both cities are full of less-than-appealing Soviet concrete apartment blocks, Moscow features more Soviet architecture as focal points (such as the Seven Sisters). Both cities have many gorgeous cathedrals, but Moscow is more dominated by the “typical” onion-dome look. Saint Petersburg also does not have as much modern architecture as in Moscow, whose financial district is a chunk of glassy skyscrapers, the likes of which are not to be found in the Venice of the North. Moscow’s former mayor, Luzhkov, had a particular liking for modern architecture and from about 1990-2010, there was no solid policy on what to build where and developers ran wild, helping create the eclectic Moscow of today. St. Petersburg has always been more homogeneous and better preserved.

In a similar vein to architecture, city layout is different between the two cities. This one is pretty easy to spot with just a map. Moscow, as is common with medieval cities that used to be confined by city walls, is dominated by rings and, particularly in the center, by narrow, winding streets. Saint Petersburg, which was purposefully designed from scratch after the advent of civil engineering, has a more grid-like pattern, heavily incorporating the rivers and canals that Peter the Great intended his subjects to use as their primary mode of transportation. Moscow feels more open, and there are more vantage points to the city (mainly in the center), where in Petersburg it’s easy to feel slightly boxed in by the long rows of imperial facades. Moscow is more confusing for a newcomer, however, with the feeling of constantly moving in circles, while Petersburg has a simpler, more navigable layout.

Cleanliness

Petersburg is cleaner on the whole, with air currents circulate fresh air in from the sea, unlike in Moscow. Of course, there is definitely litter in both cities, but more trash can be seen on the street in Moscow which is also a bit dingier in parts.

A huge aspect that nearly everyone mentions when asked is that the pace of life in Moscow is faster. In Petersburg, people are less pushy and will stop and smell the roses, while in Moscow, everything is important and urgent and everyone walks at lightning speed. Probably the largest contributing factor to this is each city’s population size with Saint Petersburg at around 5 million and Moscow around 12. I can’t say that I experienced this much myself, in fact I think both cities moved very and equally fast, but for the frequency of this response I received I have to include it.

Edmunds' Expert Review

Will Kaufman

  • Extra versatility provided by standard three-row seat
  • Low price for the segment
  • Lacks many modern safety and convenience features, even in top trims
  • Below-average fuel economy
  • Disappointing and outdated base engine and transmission
  • Handling and drivability lag behind competitors

Vehicle overview

The Dodge Journey could very well be the car that time forgot. It debuted back in 2009 and has been pretty much the same vehicle since. While this longevity is admirable and speaks to the inherent goodness of the Journey's design concept, there's no denying that it's behind the times in quite a few areas.

Cost to Drive Cost to drive estimates for the 2018 Dodge Journey SE 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 4A) and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of $3.49 per gallon for regular unleaded in North Dakota.

As in previous years, the 2018 version of the Journey has three rows and a low price, but it lacks quite a few of the safety features buyers might expect, even when fully optioned. Its base engine is a truly underwhelming four-cylinder paired to an outdated four-speed automatic, and the combo results in subpar fuel economy. A stronger V6 is available, but even so equipped the Journey can't keep up with other three-row SUVs.

It's not all bad news for the Journey. We like the ride quality, and the seats are comfortable all around. The 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system included on upper trims is also a solid system, although it sadly has not been upgraded to the latest version that includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration.

The Journey will get you where you're going, and will do so for less money than many competitors. But overall we think you'll be happier with vehicles such as the Kia Sorento, GMC Acadia or new Volkswagen Tiguan.

Edmunds' Expert Rating

Trim tested.

Each vehicle typically comes in multiple versions that are fundamentally similar. The ratings in this review are based on our first drive of the 2014 Dodge Journey SXT Plus (3.6L V6 | 6-speed automatic | AWD).

NOTE: Since this test was conducted, the current Dodge Journey has received some revisions, including an improved infotainment interface and standard third-row seating. Our findings remain broadly applicable to this year's Dodge Journey, however.

Acceleration

Drivability, seat comfort, ride comfort, noise & vibration, ease of use, getting in/getting out, which journey does edmunds recommend, 2018 dodge journey models.

All four Journey trims come standard with front-wheel drive and, excluding the GT, a 2.4-liter four-cylinder (173 hp, 166 lb-ft of torque) paired with a four-speed automatic. Opting for all-wheel drive (or the front-wheel-drive Journey GT) gets you a 3.6-liter V6 (283 hp, 260 lb-ft of torque) and a six-speed automatic transmission. The V6 is also available as a stand-alone option for the SXT and Journey trims.

Standard feature highlights for the Journey SE include 17-inch steel wheels, a height-adjustable driver seat, 60/40-split second-row seats (with slide and recline), dual-zone climate control, keyless ignition and entry, and a six-speaker sound system with a 4.3-inch touchscreen interface.

Options packages include the Connectivity package (Bluetooth, satellite radio, a USB port, voice commands and a leather-wrapped steering wheel), the Popular Equipment package (three-zone temperature control with rear-seat vents, a conversation mirror, overhead console storage, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel) and the Comfort/Convenience package (a power-adjustable driver seat).

Moving up to the SXT adds 17-inch alloy wheels and contents of the Connectivity and Popular Equipment packages. A Uconnect 8.4-inch touchscreen package gets you the desirable 8.4-inch touchscreen plus adds three-zone automatic climate control, aimable interior lamps, overhead console storage, rear parking sensors and a rearview camera. The SXT's Premium package adds satellite radio, a conversation mirror, leather-wrapped steering wheel and the power-adjustable driver seat.

The Dodge Journey Crossroad comes with 19-inch black-painted alloy wheels and the contents of the Uconnect 8.4-inch touchscreen package. Further options include leather upholstery, heated front seats, a rear-seat entertainment system, a premium six-speaker stereo system with subwoofer, navigation, a sunroof and the Driver Convenience package (a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and a universal garage door opener).

The range-topping GT trim gets 19-inch alloys, remote start, a security alarm, leather upholstery, heated front seats and steering wheel, and the premium stereo system. Additional options are largely the same as for the Crossroad, but a Trailer Tow Prep package, which adds a hitch and four-pin wiring connector, is also available.

Moscow or St. Petersburg – Which Russian City Is Better?

June 4, 2017 by Bino 7 Comments

As two of the most popular tourist destinations in Russia, most travelers who visit the world’s largest countries end up making their way to both Moscow and St. Petersburg. Both cities have a wealth of attractions, including palaces, churches as well as exciting culinary and nightlife scenes. But what if you find yourself able to visit only one – should you visit Moscow or St. Petersburg? Alternatively, if you have time for both, in which city do you spend more days?

During a recent trip to Russia, I had a similar problem deciding. My trip allowed me to visit both cities but I was not sure in the beginning whether I should stay for more days in Moscow or St. Petersburg. As such, the comparison I am going to do here applies both to those trying to allocate the number of days between the two cities as well as those who have enough time to visit only one,

As Russia’s capital, the city serves as the financial center of the country. The city is highly cosmopolitan. You will find a large number of people from all around Russia here and even people from the former Soviet republics. Moscow also has a noticeable expat population and you’ll find various types of eateries here from Japanese to French as well as Italian – the latter which local chefs do very well.

moscow kremlin

a view of the kremlin over the moskva river

While the city sits firmly in Europe and plenty of the surrounding architecture are certainly typical of the continent, Moscow can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming (and clogged), not to mention polluted due to the smoke coming out of the cars. There are plenty of highways circling the city to reach areas outside the central core. Moscow is definitely one of the great cities of the world.

  • Moscow is one of the world’s largest cities and you won’t get bored here. There are plenty of districts from which to explore. Personally, I love the area surrounding the Patriarshy Ponds filled with plenty of charming shops and hip restaurants.
  • If you decide to spend more time or devote your entire time in Russia to Moscow, you’ll be pleased that there are plenty of day trip and excursion opportunities from here. The towns around the golden ring, i.e. Suzdal, Vladimir, Sergiev Posad, etc are either a car or train ride away and can easily keep you preoccupied for a couple of days.
  • The city is not as touristy as St. Petersburg and that’s a good thing. I visited the Kolomenskoye Park for example, which houses a UNESCO World Heritage Site, without encountering the tour groups I typically see in St. Petersburg.
  • If the hipster culture interests you, you’ll be pleased that you have plenty of options in Moscow. The most prominent is Flacon , a short walk from Dmitrovskaya station.

DSC_2236

the izmailovo kremlin – one of the places you should include in your moscow trip

  • Overall, I found Moscow to be more expensive – both in terms of hotels, food as well as transport. The Russian capital is frequently ranked as one of the most expensive cities in the world. All it takes is a visit to the iconic GUM shopping mall to see the astronomical prices.
  • If you are visiting Moscow independently, you might find getting by via public transport a bit confusing. When taking the metro in particular, the signs are all in Cyrillic so it’s helpful to learn a bit of the alphabet in order to familiarize yourself with the names of the places. If any consolation, some of the stations are among the most beautiful subway stations in the world.
  • While both Moscow and St. Petersburg have less charming Soviet style buildings, you’ll find more in Moscow – being once the capital of the Soviet Union.
  • There are no shortage of sights in Moscow but many of them are scattered all around the city. Interesting places in the outskirts include: Kolomenskoye Park, the Izmailovo Kremlin, Novodevichy Convent and Flaocon. But these are at different directions from the center.

Where I stayed in Moscow: I found the InterContinental Tverskaya Moscow to be conveniently located. It’s within a short walk from at least 3 metro stations while the Red Square is just down the road. Service overall is fantastic compared to other Moscow hotels and vacation rental options and there are good deals to be had during weekends. You can also compare the best prices for hotels in Moscow HERE .

St. Petersburg

st. petersburg in russia

view of st. petersburg from st. isaac’s cathedral

Established some 300 years ago by Peter the Great, St. Petersburg probably ranks among the most visually appealing cities in Europe. Almost any building in the central core for example can be considered as a tourist attraction. The city is one of the great touristic cities in Europe – hosting plenty of daytrippers from cruises around the Baltics or Scandinavia.

difference between dodge journey sxt and crossroad

inside the church of spilled blood in st. petersburg

  • The city is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe with plenty of classical and baroque architecture. Peter the Great spared no expense in hiring the best architects from Western Europe when he established the city.
  • St. Petersburg is relatively cheaper than Moscow. Uber rides between most points within the city center don’t go beyond $5.
  • Many of the tourist attractions are concentrated within the center so it’s fairly easy to walk from one attraction to another or take a short cab ride.
  • The city derives a good part of its income in tourism and you’ll find plenty of signs in English and even in other foreign languages. While I was there, I saw many restaurants and shops displaying signs in Chinese.

difference between dodge journey sxt and crossroad

outside the hermitage

  • While you will find daytrip opportunities in the form of Petrograd as well as Catherine Palace, they’re significantly less than if you choose to base yourself in Moscow.
  • St. Petersburg can get quite touristy and you could find the crowds a bit maddening and you might even need to queue for a long time to enter. It’s possible to purchase tickets for some attractions online but others are available only on the spot.

Where I stayed in St. Petersburg: I was pleasantly surprised by the Crowne Plaza Ligovsky . Some of the rooms are styled like a palace with engravings on the walls. Fresh juices were served during breakfast – something relatively unheard of for a 4 star hotel. Best of all, it is located just across Galeria, one of the biggest shopping malls in St. Petersburg. You can also check out some other hotels and compare the best prices HERE for St. Petersburg.

Where to go if you could choose only one city?

Both Moscow and St. Petersburg are great in their own ways. However, if your stay in Russia is very short and barring any other limitations, I would suggest going to St. Petersburg instead. My reasons are as follows: St. Petersburg is quicker to navigate. You can finish most of the main attractions within a couple of days by focusing on the city center and perhaps visiting the area north of the river. In contrast, Moscow is quite spread out. The city is so much more than the Kremlin and Red Square that it will take you more days to really see the city. It would be better to visit Moscow next time when you have more days to spare.

If you have enough time for both cities, where should you allocate more days?

On the other hand, if you have more time to visit both cities and are deciding where to allocate more days – I would suggest allocating more days for Moscow. Other than the extra time required to see the city outskirts, you could also use the extra days to arrange excursions to the cities in the Golden Ring. Also check out my suggested one week itinerary for Russia . Alternatively, you can also consider venturing to Russia’s third capital, the multicultural city of Kazan if you have time.

Tips for Russia

  • Know the Cyrillic alphabet  – the local alphabet is not difficult and is actually quite fun to learn especially after you learn how many words sound the same in both Russian and English! This will help greatly when you navigate metro stations and read shop signs.
  • Travel insurance – If you are going for a simple eating trip near your home country, travel insurance may not be needed but for Russia which is quite far and rather exotic, I decided to purchase one. I bought from  this provider which has a higher than average medical coverage and compensates you for things like accidents and lost items at a relatively cheap price.
  • Buy metro cards – Getting the metro cards in cities such as Moscow and St. Petersburg will save you lots when it comes to transport cost and is far more convenient than buying tickets on the spot. For places that are not covered by the metro, you can consider ride-sharing apps like UBER.

I have been to moscow and lived there for a while i only find out that in moscow people are so aggressive and not friendly at all. If you don’t kniw the Russian language then it means you would be in problems. People don’t like to help others. if you can’t find any address don’t ask any one they will not answer you.time is money for them they don’t waist time for you.

Thank you for all the helpful information. There are a lot of blogs comparing the two cities, but your info is really concise and practical.

I will plan to visit both but spend a bit more time in Moscow (if I can afford the hotels!!).

What time of year were you in Russia? I would like to go during the White Nights Festival in St. Petersburg.

St. Petersburg and Moscow: What’s The Difference?

New Project 1

August 12, 2020

Our two most popular locations in Russia are St. Petersburg and Moscow. Choosing between “the two capitals” can be tough as both are rich in culture and history. We’ve asked our SRAS staff, who have long been permanently based in these two cities to map out some of the differences between them in the videos below. They discuss the feel of each city and what sort of student is most likely to thrive in these locations, as well what programming is available.

A student’s choice of location and program is always deeply personal and based on the student’s individual goals and interests. If you are looking to study abroad in an SRAS location, please contact us to discuss how our programs can best serve you.

St. Petersburg: Tourism and Culture

April Djakoniya, SRAS’ Student Services Manager and St. Petersburg resident, discusses the laid-back and culture-rich atmosphere of St. Petersburg. A city with a strong tourist industry focused on Europe, St. Petersburg is great for students interested specifically in culture, museums, or looking for a strongly supportive environment in which to study Russia and the Russian language.

Moscow: Diversity, Economy, and Diplomacy

Josh Wilson, SRAS Assistant Director, discusses the metropolis of Moscow. Here you can sample all of Russia’s diversity in terms of ethnicity, religion, and culture, but also in terms of political and social movements. Moscow is great for students interested in politics and international relations. The connections and experiences that can be made in Moscow will serve you well in future professions.
