Disney Mediterranean Cruise Guide

By: Author Kristi

If you have kids and are looking for a great way to see parts of Europe with them, you should consider taking a Disney Mediterranean Cruise. Disney Cruise Line knows how to cater to families who love to travel and have great itineraries to allow you to see many different destinations on one trip!

Disney Mediterranean Cruise Guide

7 Night Mediterranean Cruise from Barcelona

Disney Cruise Line has both 5 and 7 Night Mediterranean Cruises that take you on a voyage to several countries.

In my opinion, it is one of the best ways to see many different places in a week.

Disney Cruise to Mediterranean

We’ve taken the 7-Night Mediterranean Cruise from Barcelona and have to say that it was one of my family’s most favorite vacations ever. Here are the ports of call that we were able to experience:

Barcelona Spain

Barcelona, Spain

Your trip will start (and probably end) in Barcelona so you will want to make sure that you schedule some time here before (or after your stay) so you can fully take in this amazing city.

We usually spend 2-3 days in Barcelona when we go.

Barcelona Port

The Barcelona Cruise Port is one of the largest in the Mediterranean.

You will find that there are many ships coming into the Barcelona cruise ship port at the same time.

This can make debarkation a little chaotic if you don’t know what you are doing or where to go.

Many people book a Barcelona Cruise excursion ahead of time, but if you don’t, you won’t have a hard time finding things to do on your own.

Getting to the city of Barcelona from the Cruise port is about a 15-minute walk.

Taking a taxi is the easiest way to get to Barcelona from the cruise terminals, but it can be also the most expensive way as well.

Another option to get into the city is the Port Bus.

This is a bus service that goes back and forth between the Cruise Terminals at the Adossat Quay & Columbus Monument that only works whenever cruises are arriving to Barcelona.

A one-way ticket costs about 3€.

5 Top Things to See in Barcelona

  • La Rambla. These tree lined streets are like an open air market and pedestrian area. You can easily grab dinner, see street performers, and do a little shopping all in one stop.
  • Sagrada Familia. Probably one of the most beautiful cathedrals you will ever see. This magnificent church has been a work in progress since 1882. Designed by Antoni Gaudí, this Gothic Basilica is in the shape of a Latin cross and is filled with beautiful biblical imagery both inside & out.
  • Park Guell. Sitting high atop the city is a picturesque park designed by Antoni Gaudí. Plan for lots of walking up hill, but the view and the beautiful architecture will be well worth it!
  • Museu Picasso. This museum houses one of the most extensive collections of Picasso’s art. You will see the progression of his art from his youth, through his cubist period and beyond. If you can go on a Sunday do (it’s FREE on Sundays).
  • Columbus Monument. While not the most amazing of sites in Barcelona, Americans will find value in this statue of the man who is noted historically for his trip across the Atlantic to the Americas. The statue is located at the site where Columbus returned to Spain after his first voyage.

Naples (& Pompeii), Italy

On this cruise, you will spend a lot of time in Italy, but each port you stop at will be different.

While you will port in Naples and can spend time there, we chose to do an excursion through Disney Cruise Line that allowed us to visit both Pompeii and Sorrento.

Having visited Naples before, I have to say that my honest opinion is that the day is better spent visiting Pompeii and/or the Amalfi Coast.

Pompeii Disney Excursion

Our Disney Cruise excursion took us by bus to Pompeii where we had a guided tour then on to Sorrento where we visited a local farm where we had lunch and learned how to make Mozzarella.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

The excursion also allowed us our own time to explore Sorrento.

If you do choose to do Naples & Pompeii on your own, it is easily doable. It is about a 10-minute walk from the cruise port into Naples.

From there, you can see many of the major sites on your own and take the train to Pompeii or Herculaneum.

If you are visiting Pompeii with the kids, I think you should be prepared to see a lot of sexually explicit items in the market just outside of the Pompeii Archeological site. The vendors will be selling everything from calendars to posters featuring visuals of corpses in sexual poses.

Rome, Italy

Civitavechhia (Rome), Italy

When you travel to Rome on a Disney Cruise, you actually dock in Civitavecchia so you will need to find a way to get into the Rome city center.

Disney offers several cruise excursion options, and some buses and taxis will take you into Rome.

Trevi Fountain in Rome

We decided that we wanted someone to actually take us from places to place instead of relying on buses and walking so we did a semi private tour.

This was nice for us because we were able to go in with another family (so a total of 8 people) for a MUCH CHEAPER rate than any of the bigger tours (through Disney or elsewhere) were charging (I’m talking 50% less).

We had a van with a driver (who spoke good English) and were able to pretty much plan our day according to what we wanted to see.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

We were able to visit The Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Colosseum, Forum and the Vatican.

I would not have done it any other way!

If you are planning to see Rome on your own, you are going to want to make sure that you aren’t stuck standing in lines all day.

Buy whatever attraction tickets you can in advance. This can save you not only time but money!

Most of the places you visit in Rome will have an audio tour option. Typically, they are also in a separate line.

Opt out of the audio tour and use the FREE Rick Steve downloads instead. One of the best ones is for the Roman Forum.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Livorno (Florence, Pisa), Italy

When visiting Livorno, you will need to choose between visiting Florence and Pisa. You can do both, but in my opinion, it is not ideal.

This is because you don’t really get enough time in Florence and you don’t get to go inside the Uffizi which I think is an important museum to see.

Duomo in Florence

On our Disney Mediterranean Cruise to Livorno, we chose to spend the day in Florence on our own. There are guided tour options, but since everything is centrally located and we didn’t want to be on someone else’s schedule, we did it alone.

We began our day trip to Florence in the heart of Florence.

This is where you will find such important sites as Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral (Duomo), Giotto’s Bell Tower, Baptistery of St. John and Museo dell’Opera del Duomo.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

We stopped for lunch at a local restaurant before heading on to see the local squares and the Uffizi.

From the Uffizi balcony, you get a beautiful view of the Ponte Vecchio bridge.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Villefranche (Monaco & Monte Carlo / Nice), France

Located on the French Riviera, this region includes Monte Carlo, Cannes, and Nice.

We choose to go on our own cruise excursion from Villefranche to Nice, Monte Carlo and Monaco.

There are two ways to get from Villefranche to Nice: Train or Bus.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Bus Trip from Villefranche to Nice

If you choose to take the bus from Villefranche to Nice, it will take about 15 minutes.

Once the tender brings you inland, walk up the hill to the bus stop. You will take Bus 100. This is a popular thing to do, so expect that you might have to wait for more than once bus. Buses run every 15 mins or so.

You purchase bus fare on the bus. Make sure you have Euros.

On the return trip, the bus is even more full and can take quite some time to make the journey back. You may want to take the train.

Train Trip from Villefranche to Nice

Just a 10-minute walk from where the tender lands, the train is the fastest way to get to Nice from Villefranche if the trains are running.

Be sure to check to make sure that they are not on strike (as this is known to happen quite a bit in France).

You can purchase your ticket at the train station. It is about 2 Euro each way. You will get off at the Nice Ville station and walk the rest of the way into Old Town.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Once in Nice, take the Little Train Tour which takes you to see the most important landmarks as well as gets you to Monaco to see the Prince’s Palace at the top of Castle Hill.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

It takes all the planning out of your trip and because of the audio guide, you will learn as you go.

View of French Riviera

The views from atop Castle Hill are stunning.

There are plenty of places to sit and observe the beauty of this region of France!

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Going from Nice to Monte Carlo

The bus ride from Nice to Monte Carlo (Bus #100) is a wonderful way to see the scenery. At only 1.50€ each way, you are going to find this the cheapest way to get around.

Grand Prix Track in Monte Carlo

Here you will be able to see The Monaco Grand Prix .

You can almost picture the cars zooming through these narrow hilly and quite curvy roads. I have no idea how they do it!

Because it is so hilly, you might want to take a local bus to get from one end of the town to the other. Tickets cost 2€ and can be purchased from the driver. Tickets are good for 30 minutes.

Monte Carlo

One of the sights you will want to see is the Monte Carlo Casino.

If you are without children, you can go inside and check it out or take your chances and play the tables. Those with kids can go no further than the foot of the stairs.

If you are looking to do some shopping, Monaco has many upscale shops and stores. Be aware that those will be closed on Sundays.

Tip: As you know if you’ve traveled to France, bathrooms are hard to find. You can find bathrooms in train stations and you will find there are places like Burger King on Jean Medecin Avenue where you can buy a soda and use a clean bathroom for free.

Things to Know about Mediterranean Cruise Excursions

Local currency.

The currency in all ports of call on a Mediterranean cruise will be the Euro. There are 8 Euro Coins and 7 different Euro banknotes.

While you can charge everything to your room while on the ship, you will want to make sure you get plenty of Euros prior to your trip for your excursions.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

You can use the exchange services on the ship (as well as at most airports, ports of call ATMs, and European banks) BUT you will want to make sure you get the biggest bang for your buck.

European exchange rates vary and fluctuate. Find the best deal you can prior to your cruise and get more than you think you will need.

Also, whether you plan to withdrawal Euros from a Credit Card while in Europe or not, make sure you know your PIN code just in case.

We had no idea what our pin code was and it caused us an unneeded headache when we needed more Euros.

Be prepared to be up early. Disney Cruise Line excursions seem to get priority in leaving the ship.

In Villefranche, it can take up to one hour to leave the ship because you have to terry off the ship by small boats.

If you are doing a non-Disney or on your own excursion, plan accordingly.

We did both Disney and Non-Disney excursions on our Disney Mediterranean Cruise. I do suggest you do your homework.

Excursions will not wait for you, so be sure that you are on time!

You will pay more for Disney excursions than you will if you book private tours, but you are guaranteed that Disney won’t leave you if your excursion runs late (traffic is an issue in some ports of call).

We did both Disney and non-Disney and I’m glad we did!

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Language Barrier

You don’t need to speak Spanish, French or Italian.

We found that everyone we met spoke English, so it made communication very easy.

I was really hoping to use some of the Spanish I’ve mastered, but I hardly ever had the chance.

Dressing Appropriately for Rome

Dress Appropriately

If you plan on visiting houses of worship or other religious locations, you should make sure that your knees and shoulders are covered.

Wear comfortable shoes. For me, it was Skechers Go Walk Shoes. These are my go-to shoes and I swear by them. I did see others wearing them too!

The kids love their Keen Newport H2 Shoes. They are flexible, breathe and keep their toes covered.

Best part is that no one got blisters or complained about how uncomfortable their shoes were.

Packing List for a Disney Cruise

Pack Smart for Excursions

Create a Mediterranean Cruise packing list and make sure you think about things you might need when you leave the ship.

Bring a money belt or small purse that can be carried across the body.

My husband carried the money belt (you will need to carry Passports with you and this is the safest way).

Make copies of your passport to keep on the ship.

I carried a small Vera Bradley Hipster Purse that held my small incidentals like phone and sunglasses. We also had a backpack for souvenirs, hats, sunblock and such.

Italian Gelato

Be Prepared

Most of your lunches will be on your own. If you sit down in a restaurant, you will pay more than if you take it to go.

There is no tap water. If you want water, you will have to pay for it.

Bottled water is cheapest~ 1-2 euros at small convenience stores (located just about everywhere).

You’ll pay twice as much (same as a soda) in a restaurant.

They serve both sparkling and “water natural” which is regular bottled water, so know what you are ordering.

Gratuities are generally already included in your bill at sit down restaurants.

Bathrooms are not always free, clean or big. Those with small children (or bladders) will want to know where “toilets” can be found while out and about.

Keep small change with you in case they charge a fee.

Bring a stack of napkins to dry your hands because most do not have ANY paper towels for when you wash your hands.

Disney Mediterranean Cruise Guide

More about the Mediterranean ports:

  • If you plan on staying extra days in Europe prior or post cruise, be sure to get at least one converter for your electronics.
  • Trains are unpredictable. They will stop for no reason and can cause your trip to be off schedule.
  • Pickpockets will look just like you. Be wary of strangers and never ask one to take your picture. You might never see your camera again.
  • If you are handed a small card asking for money, don’t take the card. They will want it back… with some money.
  • Our go to book was Rick Steve’s Mediterranean Cruise Ports. I carried it with us to every stop we made and found it very informative!

Disney Dream Mediterranean Cruise

Disney Mediterranean Cruise Ship

  • The Mediterranean Cruise itself is just like any other cruise you would take with Disney. Same great staff, on board activities, accommodations and food.
  • Disney Characters will be dressed up in costumes based on port! Great photo opportunities.
  • There is one formal night (not all that formal, really) and a pirate night followed by fireworks.
  • They have movies in English and Spanish. Be sure to know which one you are going to (this information will be on your Disney Navigator! The theater is small, so get there early. Movies fill up fast, especially first-run movies. I’m talking, about people sitting on the stairs. Yes, it is that packed and they do not allow you to save seats.
  • Pack smart. Bring only what you need. Vary your luggage. We heard stories of airlines losing all luggage (those out of Heathrow were the worst), so make sure you have items like your camera, electronics, medications, and basic clothing in your carry-ons.
  • There are laundry rooms on the ship so you can wash your items as needed.
  • Disney Cruise Line provides shampoo, conditioner, and body wash along with body lotion in your stateroom bathrooms.
  • There will be a hairdryer in a desk drawer.
  • There are 2 FREE Disney Cruise Line postcards in the desk. Stamps can be found at post offices (and some convenience stores) at each port of call.

We had a fabulous time on our Disney Mediterranean Cruise! What questions do you have about sailing to Europe with Disney?

They don’t call it the Disney DREAM for nothin’…

disney dream cruise mediterranean

The Disney Dream was the third ship to join the ever-expanding Disney Cruise Line fleet. (Seriously… have you heard that the NEW Disney Destiny was just announced ??) The Disney Dream introduced a new class of ships to the line — the Dream Class, of course! And if it’s YOUR dream to sail on this magical ship, then we hope you’ll join us as we explore everything you and your traveling crew need to know about cruising on the Disney Dream!

Disney Dream Overview

The Disney Dream took its Maiden Voyage with passengers on January 26, 2011. The Disney Fantasy, which followed with its first sailing in 2012, is the sister ship to the Disney Dream.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

So, in both its size and structure (with 14 Decks and 1,250 Staterooms) and passenger capacity (a whopping 4,000!), it is similar to the Disney Fantasy. That said, each ship boasts some of their own distinguishing features.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

These start right in the ship’s Art deco-inspired Atrium, where a golden statue of Admiral Donald Duck himself welcomes you aboard!

Of course, among additional varied features, the ship’s itineraries differ as well…

Disney Dream Destinations

The Disney Dream primarily offers Bahamian cruises departing from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida .

disney dream cruise mediterranean

However, the summer of 2024 holds something very unique in store for passengers on the Dream, as the ship is destined for Europe following a Transatlantic voyage from Fort Lauderdale to Barcelona ! Sailings over the summer include Mediterranean (including the Greek Isles), British Isles, Western Europe, and Norwegian Fjords (with one sailing including Iceland) cruises.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

When the Dream returns stateside, she’ll depart again from Fort Lauderdale to offer Bahamian and Caribbean cruises, and select sailings will include a stop at Disney Cruise Line’s NEW island destination, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point (and, of course, Disney Cruise Line’s beloved Castaway Cay )!

Check out Disney Cruise Line’s itineraries for Summer 2025 here!

Disney dream entertainment.

Unique Disney Cruise Line entertainment kicks things off RIGHT AWAY as your cruise starts with a Sailing Away Deck Party!

disney dream cruise mediterranean

When I say “unique” that’s because the pals joining you in the entertainment throughout the voyage are none other than Disney characters!

Select sailings also present Disney Cruise Line’s famous Pirate Night (complete with FIREWORKS at sea!). And don’t forget: your CREW is invited to don all the Pirate-y garb you can pack in yer suitcase, matey!

disney dream cruise mediterranean

When it comes to entertainment options, Disney Cruise Line is best known for its Broadway-style productions — presented in the Walt Disney Theatre — that tie in characters, beloved stories, and treasured music from the Disney films.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

The three shows that guests can enjoy on the Disney Dream are Beauty and the Beast , The Golden Mickeys, and Disney’s Believe.

Currently exclusive to the Disney Dream, Beauty and the Beast brings the “Tale As Old As Time” to you live on stage!

disney dream cruise mediterranean

In addition to seeing the characters and hearing the songs you already know and love from the animated film, this production also includes two new pieces written by Alan Menken and Tim Rice from the live-action film.

While Beauty and the Beast puts the focus on one Disney film, Disney’s Believe and The Golden Mickeys bring together oodles and oodles of Disney stories, characters, and signature songs!  In Disney’s Believe , which Disney shares is a “spellbinding musical about a workaholic father who reconnects with his daughter through a little Disney magic,” you’ll see familiar friends from Peter Pan, Aladdin, Cinderella, The Lion King , and The Princess and the Frog.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

The Golden Mickeys is “a dazzling tribute to the enchanting movies of Walt Disney” (and it includes a red carpet pre-show!). Featured Disney films include — but aren’t limited to — Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Mulan, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Toy Story 2.

P.S. You can pay a visit to Preludes before the show to pick up some popcorn (or perhaps a cocktail) to enjoy in the theatre!

Disney Dream Water Features

Passengers of all ages can make a BIG SPLASH on Deck 11 (and even a bit higher…) of the Disney Dream! Let’s start with that part that’s “a bit higher…”

We’re talking about the Aqua Duck , the water coaster that made its debut on the Dream!

disney dream cruise mediterranean

To ride, guests enter on Deck 12. From here? As the Disney Cruise Line website shares, you’ll take a 2-person raft on “a wet and wild journey up, down, around and off the side of the ship, through the Forward Funnel—on a daredevil 4-deck drop.”

Be aware, though, that there is a height requirement of 42 inches or taller to ride (and single riders must be at least 54 inches).

Water areas for all ages include Donald’s Pool on Deck 11, as well as a wading pool on Deck 12.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Specifically for the kiddos is Mickey’s Pool , and Nemo’s Reef in particular is a splash area for those 8 and under.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Mickeys Slide , however, can be enjoyed by passengers ages 4 to 14.

The Quiet Cove Pool is reserved for guests over 18 years of age only, as is the Satellite Falls wading pool, complete with a cooling rain curtain. In the same area, adult guests can enjoy a cocktail at the Currents pool bar (the Waves bar is another option), or step inside the Cove Café for a specialty coffee.

Disney Dream Staterooms

The Disney Dream offers four categories of staterooms: Inside, Oceanview, Verandah, and Concierge. Many of the rooms feature Disney’s innovative split bathroom which allows more guests in a cabin the chance to get ready at one time.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

While each category boasts amenities such as premium mattresses and linens, a 22″ LCD flat-screen TV, a refrigerator, and a surprising amount of storage space, there are many more details to explore among the varying categories, so we’ve dedicated a page to those options here .

Looking for ALL the Stateroom details for the Disney Dream? Click HERE!

Disney dream dining.

As with all the other ships in the fleet, the Disney Dream presents a wide array of options, starting with a Disney Cruise Line signature: Rotational Dining!

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Rotational Dining means that guests have the chance to enjoy dinner at ALL THREE of the ships main dining rooms, each with their own theme and specialty menus on select nights. The best part is that, as you move to a different restaurant each evening, so do your servers! They “rotate” right along with you so they can get to know your group’s dining preferences.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

The three Rotational Dining restaurants on the Disney Dream are Animator’s Palate, Enchanted Garden , and Royal Palace.

Animator’s Palate is an innovative restaurant where the show is drawings coming to life on screens all around you. Undersea Magic immerses diners in the world of  Finding Nemo .

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Dinner at the Royal Palace features French and continental cuisine in the opulence of the classic Disney fairytales Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

At Enchanted Garden, guests enjoy their meal as the restaurant changes as flowers bloom and the “sky” fades from day to night.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Be aware that Royal Palace and Enchanted Garden may also serve breakfast and lunch during a sailing, offering guests a full service option if they prefer not to dine buffet or quick service style.

A number of options are available throughout the day, as well. Cabanas hosts a massive buffet for both breakfast and lunch. Help yourself!

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Also on Deck 11, several Quick Service options serve classics like burgers, hot dogs, chicken strips and fries, pizza, and healthier fare like salads and sandwiches. These are all available at Flo’s Cafe , which is divided into three different stations: Luigi’s Pizza, Tow Mater’s Grill, and Fillmore’s Favorites.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

P.S. Don’t forget to follow up any and all of that with some soft-serve ice cream at Eye Scream Treats!

Additional treats — including scoops from a Gelato Bar —  are available for extra purchase at Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats , a charming spot themed to Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph .

disney dream cruise mediterranean

And did you know that ROOM SERVICE is available for breakfast or snacks 24 HOURS A DAY??  The vast majority of items are INCLUDED in the cruise price!

Disney Dream Adult Spaces

In addition to the Quiet Cove mentioned earlier, the Disney Dream offers more areas reserved just for grown-ups. These include the fine dining restaurant, Palo , which may be booked for dinner for an additional charge per adult.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Additionally, the famous Palo Brunch is available for booking during sea days! This option is incredibly popular, so advance booking through your Disney Cruise Line account is recommended.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Be aware, as well, that Palo does have a dress code. The Disney Cruise Line website states: “Formal or semi-formal attire is recommended. Also permitted is dress-casual attire with a polished look, such as dress pants, jeans in good condition, collared shirts, dressy tops and lifestyle shoes. For brunch at Palo and Palo Steakhouse, dress shorts are acceptable. Clothing such as T-shirts, swimwear and sports attire are not permitted.”

The Disney Dream is also home to Remy, another adults only option that adheres to a slightly more strict dress code than Palo: Jackets for men (or collared shirt for brunch) are required and no jeans, shorts, capri pants, sneakers, or open toed shoes.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

The cuisine is exceptional French fare and reservations are required.

By the way, before or after your special meal, you might stop at Meridian , a lounge overlooking the back of the ship!

Ready to relax with a drink, or maybe even do a little dancing? Adults can pay a visit to The District , featuring several lounges, each with their own distinct style and atmosphere. District Lounge , for instance, is a relaxing piano bar, while Evolution presents late-night entertainment like dancing, games, karaoke, and comedy shows.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Pink is a Wine and Champagne Bar, while Skyline Lounge immerses you in a “sleek sky bar” boasting views of some of the world’s most iconic skylines!

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Meanwhile, sports fans can catch a game at Pub 687.

Adults might also opt to participate in a Mixology Class or Beverage Tasting Seminar for an extra fee. Featured liqueur and cocktail options include — but aren’t limited to — rum, tequila and margaritas, whiskey, champagne tastings, and more!

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Advance booking is highly recommended for these fun and VERY popular opportunities!

The Senses Spa & Salon offers a wide array of services and treatments. (And the Rainforest Room provides an especially relaxing oasis!) Select experiences are available for pre-booking, and you can stop by Senses to inquire about prices for the Rainforest Room and other treatments during your cruise. And the Fitness Center offers workout machines and classes.

And though this is not limited to adults, keep in mind that if you’d like to get a jog or two in, Deck 4 hosts a walking track!

Disney Dream Kids Clubs and Experiences

But what about the kids? Oh, don’t you worry… there are specific areas on the ship dedicated to children, offering experiences tailored for ages from infants to teens!

The It’s a Small World Nursery is available for ages 6 months to 3 years old (save for the Transatlantic cruise, during which the nursery welcomes ages 1 to 3 years old).

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Be aware that the Disney Cruise Line website states that “Reservations can be made on a first-come, first-served basis during the open house on Embarkation Day or anytime throughout your cruise. Childcare at “it’s a small world” nursery! is available at an additional fee.” Disney also emphasizes that space is limited.

Meanwhile, Disney’s Oceaneer Club AND Disney’s Oceaneer Lab are available for children ages 3 to 10. The Oceaneer Lab specializes in learning while having FUN!

disney dream cruise mediterranean

The Oceaneer Club features activities such as character experiences, storytime, and play areas. (There are also specific guided activities for the littlest ones, ages 3 and 4.)

disney dream cruise mediterranean

On the Dream, the Oceaneer Club features the following playful spaces: Andy’s Room (that’s Andy from Toy Story ), the Disney Infinity Game Room, Pixie Hollow , and Star Wars : Millennium Falcon.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Keep in mind that Youth Activities counselors are present at all times in these spaces. Parents will want to know that spaces for your child can be pre-registered via your Disney Cruise Line account, and registration may also take place onboard the ship.

Tweens (ages 11 to 14) can gather at the Edge to hang out, watch movies, play games and make friends during group activities with fun Disney counselors and more. And you want to know something really cool? Edge is located in the ship’s Forward Funnel on Deck 13!

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Vibe offers cruisers ages 14 to 17 similar activities geared to their age group, or simply a place to chill. It even boasts its own sun deck on the Dream.

We’ve got one more thing to mention, though it’s not a club, per se. For an extra fee, your little Prince or Princess age 3 to 12 can get a makeover at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique .

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Disney Princess, knight, and sea captain-themed packages are available… and there’s an exclusive makeover for Pirate Party Nights!

But we’re STILL not done… because children ages 3-12 can partake in a special tea party with Disney characters. Children get gifts including a jewelry box, tiara, bracelet, necklace, a Cinderella doll, and autograph book. Alternatively they can opt for a package including a cinch bag, sword, shield, pins, Duffy plush, and autograph book. The Disney Cruise Line site will have pricing information available when you book via your Disney Cruise Line account in advance.

Disney Dream Activities

Still want MORE to do 😉 ? That’s good, because the Disney Dream has GOT MORE! D Lounge, for example, is the place to be for family fun with events like game shows and trivia, dance parties,  and more.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Catch a movie on the big screen at the Buena Vista Theatre ! You might choose to watch a Disney animated classic, or maybe a Star Wars or Marvel flick. You never know… your sailing just might feature a first-run Disney feature film at sea! “Funnel Vision” on the pool deck shows movies on the big screen, too.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

You can find basketball courts and ping-pong tables on Goofy’s Sports Deck. (My personal favorite option here? It’s 9-hole MINI GOLF!)

Want to explore all sorts of areas on the ship while SOLVING A MYSTERY, to boot? Then get ready to play Midship Detective Agency.  You and your fellow detectives will interact with “enchanted art” in locations all over the ship to gather clues and crack a case wide open! In fact, there are 3 cases to solve (including, but not limited to a MUPPETS-themed caper), so you can play several times — on your own or with your crew — if you like!

disney dream cruise mediterranean

And let’s not forget that throughout your cruise, you can meet, hug, get autographs from and pose for pictures with your favorite DISNEY PALS!

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Sailing with you are the Fab Five (that’s Mickey and the gang), Disney Princesses, friends from Frozen , and more! Be aware that, while all Character Greetings are included with your cruise, select Greeting times may require advance booking.

Seasonal Sailings

Depending on the time of year, you may find that a special seasonal cruise is in store! For instance, select sailings on the Dream offer a Marvel Day at Sea !

disney dream cruise mediterranean

And all ships in the fleet present Halloween on the High Seas in September and October, while Very Merrytime Cruises sail in November and December.

Disney Cruise Line Navigator App

Whew! As you can tell, there’s a LOT happening on the Disney Dream! To keep track of what’s happening when and where, be sure to download the free Disney Cruise Line Navigator app before your cruise.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

This is where you can easily find ALL of the activities mentioned throughout this post, book select experiences, check out menus for the ship’s dining locations, and MUCH more!

Disney Cruise Mediterranean 2023 – Where Do They Sail and How Much Do They Cost?

Sharing is caring!

A Mediterranean Cruise is a dream for many and now there is a chance to sail on one of the larger ships in the Disney Fleet for 2023.

The Disney Dream is sailing to the Mediterranean in 2023 for the first time.

After sailing from Miami on a Transatlantic Cruise, Disney Dream will reposition to Barcelona to start her Mediterranean itineraries from May 20, 2023.

The Dream will sail a variety of different Mediterranean cruises before repositioning to Southampton on 15 July 2023.

What Should a Disney Cruise First Timer Know Before they Sail?

Disney Mediterranean Cruise 2024

The Disney Cruises for Summer 2024 have not yet been released. It is highly likely that there will be Disney Mediterranean Cruises in 2024.

Which Disney ship will sail to the Mediterranean in 2024? No one can confirm anything until the sailings have been released, but my guess is that the Disney Dream will sail to Europe again in 2024.

7-night Disney Dream European cruise

We arrived at the Civitavecchia port via a private car that the hotel booked fo us, and it was the quickest and most seamless boarding experience. By 1:30pm, we were at the pool, watching the kiddos swim and drinking cocktails with friends. (A pro tip from one of our good friends: pack your swim gear in a tote bag and check everything else. Your room won’t be ready yet, so you can head straight to the pool. It’s the least busy it will be for the entire trip and after a couple of hours, your room will be ready with all of your luggage waiting for you outside the door.)

disney dream cruise mediterranean

We had lunch from Cabanas (the buffet) and ate it by the pool, checked out our room, and then got changed for the Muster Drill, Sail-A-Wave party and dinner.

On Disney cruises, you’re on a dining rotation. You get the early (6pm) or late (8pm) seating, and alternate restaurants each evening. You can opt out of your more formal dining to have a quick bite or room service instead, but no matter what, your table will be waiting for you. You also have the same server and assistant server each night. We had the early seating, and dined at all of the major restaurants. The menus were all very similar to previous cruises and was the beautifully-plated Disney fare we love. 🙂

You can also order whatever you want. You can pick from their 4-course menu, or if you’d like, order two appetizers, two entrees, etc. In a Disney Cruise Facebook group, a suggestion was to ask the server to ask the cooks if they’d mind making a family-style meal from their home country. They said they’ve had the best Indian food and curries of their lives this way, along with naan and rice. We haven’t tried this yet – I feel bad that we’d be inconveniencing them – but I’ve been curious about trying it.

Our favorite is Animator’s Palate, which they have on all of the ships we’ve seen (Dream, Wonder, and Magic). You draw a person on your placemat, and during the meal, they have a *show* in which all of animations come to life on large screens throughout the restaurant, dancing to the music, and added to famous Disney scenes.

On this particular cruise, we stopped in Naples, Mykonos, Santorini, and Chania, and we had planned excursions in Naples and Mykonos. The rest of the time we enjoying exploring the ports on our own and living our best cruise lives on the ship.

Excursion 1: Positano, Sorrento, and Pompeii

This was about a 10-hour excursion, which was definitely a long one for the kiddos, but so worth it. Also, in the middle, we were treated to an epic 4-course meal with wine pairings, overlooking the ocean.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Positano is one of my favorite places in the entire world, so of course, I couldn’t wait to show the girls. I only wish that we had more time there! We had the chance to get a chocolate croissant and coffee, put our feet in the ocean (it was so warm and lovely), and do a little bit of shopping. (Highly recommend Luisa Positano! Liv and I each got dresses from there and they’re so gorgeous and unique.) It was probably a good thing that we were on limited time, because I wanted to buy everything. 😉

After Positano, we were back on the bus for a longer stop in Sorrento. It was my first time in Sorrento and while it had the Positano feel, it was a bit more bustling, especially on the main street. We shopped and walked around, grabbed a gelato, and then met with our tour group for an Italian meal that I’ll never forget.

This is where we had the famous zucchini pasta, along with chicken, salad, bread, and a chocolate hazelnut mousse dessert.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

The meal was paired with sparkling wine, white wine, red wine, and a dessert wine. Pretty much everyone in our tour group snoozed for the entire ride to Pompeii.

Pompeii was SO cool. It was fascinating to see such a well-preserved ancient city, in addition to the various aspects of life in Pompeii, like the bakery, bathhouses, etc. By this point, the kids were pretty tired, but they rallied! We learned a lot during the guided tour, and from here, it was only 45 minutes back to the cruise ship.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Excursion 2: Super Paradise Beach Day in Mykonos

disney dream cruise mediterranean

This was our favorite excursion. Super Paradise Beach is a private beach club, with relaxing loungers, umbrellas, a full menu, and a peaceful beach with bright, turquoise waters. It’s also partially blocked from the intense winds that can affect Mykonos.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

We ended up being there for about 3 hours, which was the perfect amount of time. We all swam, the girls played in the sand and waves, and we proceeded to order half of the things on the menu.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

( My fave Vuori suit )

A sandwich was included with our excursion, but I’m petty sure our Greek friends would disown us if we ate a turkey sandwich in their homeland.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Before we left, they gave us a list of everything to order while we were in Greece. The Pilot wrote down everything phonetically so we’d be able to pronounce it, like, “Gotta lotta booty yo.” I think we made them proud; we tried almost everything they suggested between our time in Mykonos and Chania. The food was out of this world incredible. So fresh, vibrant, and delicious. I highly, highly recommend the pastitsio, which is like a spaghetti lasagna with cheesy foam on top.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

(We also had grilled octopus, salad, cooked garlicky greens, stuffed grape leaves, beef patties, and little doughnuts)

disney dream cruise mediterranean

In Santorini, we didn’t end up doing much. It’s where you can see the famous white buildings with the blue domes in Oia, but it was so hot, and the kids were melting. It’s kind of an unusual port, too. You take a smaller tender boat to the base of the port, where you take a cable car up the steep hill to the town of Fira (lots of shopping and restaurants). You can also walk up stairs to the top, but there are 400+, which may not be realistic for small children or those with mobility difficulties. Our plan was to take the cable car UP, but walk down the stairs at the end of the day.

The cable car line tends to be extremely long, without much shade. The line was easily 200+ when we got there and moving very slowly. The girls were wearing their neck fans and we were constantly pouring water on them, and they were too hot, so we ended up heading back.

If you’re stopping in Santorini in mid-June or July, I’d recommend booking an excursion with motor coach transfer so you don’t have to deal with the cable car line. Or bring lots of water + an umbrella, or brave the stairs!

disney dream cruise mediterranean

The owner also brought us shots of ouza with our bill, ice creams for everyone, and sent us back to the ship with a giant piece of baklava to-go.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

In Chania, we ended up exploring on our own, which was ideal. We followed a tour guide group into Old Town, which was lined with small shops, kiosks, restaurants, and a gorgeous view of the bay.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Disney Cruise Dream dining and activities

On the ship, we enjoyed all of the usual Disney cruise offerings: the live shows – Beauty and the Beast  was phenomenal – movies, character greetings, Bingo, gym, kid’s club, swimming, endless ice cream cones and Mickey bars, whiskey tastings, and all of the wonderful restaurants.

disney dream cruise mediterranean

The best part was that we traveled with friends. The girls had built-in buddies, and so did the adults 😉 It definitely makes the experience even more fun!

Literally have your santorini dress from Nuuly rented right now! I find that it gets better if you’re renting stuff that has a lot of comments, because I can look at height/weight/pictures and figure out how my body is going to fit in something better. Is there a kids club/babysitting on disney cruises? My in laws want to do an alaska cruise soon, and we will have a 2 year old. I do love disney and think it would be fun to do a disney cruise especially if there is childcare.

ahhh twins! i totally agree – i always lurk the comments and reviews and yes, they have amazing kids club!! the characters come and visit them and they always have fun things planned

Looks so amazing! We have a Disney cruise booked so I have a lot of questions. Does the ship feel crowded? Were you worried about covid spreading? Do the pools have lifeguards? Do you book excursions in advance or day-of? At dinner do you sit with strangers or just your family? Are most travelers on the ship American?

the ship didn’t feel crowded- we were on a larger ship and i don’t think it was at capacity no, we weren’t worried about covid spreading yes, the pools have lifeguards you can book excursions in advance via the app. i would check and see when your booking window begins! which one are you doing? at dinner, you sit with your own family most travelers on the ship are American but there were travelers from all over! you’ll love it 🙂

Thanks! We are doing the 7 day Mediterranean cruise on the Disney dream, Barcelona to Italy to France! Can’t wait!

You’ll have the best time- the Dream is amazing!

Do you remember the name / style of the white dress with blue and orange that you’re wearing on the balcony pic? I’d love to check it out on Nuuly to rent for an upcoming trip!

Disney Dream Mediterranean Cruise with Silver Anniversary at Sea

By dream maker.

In May 2023, I had the opportunity to experience the first ever sailing of the Disney Dream out of Barcelona and it was an experience that I will never forget and I hope to experience it again in the future! From start to finish, I was in awe of all of the incredible sites I was seeing, especially with how much ease I was doing so! I’d highly recommend this trip to anyone of any age whether you’re looking for a relaxing get away with beautiful scenery, or an adventurous vacation full of exciting excursions!

disney dream cruise mediterranean

About the Ports

The Leaning Tower of Pisa (Italy)

Select sailings visit different ports, but on this particular sailing, we ported in Toulan (France), Livorno (Italy) which provided close access to Florence and Pisa (Italy), Civitavecchia (Italy) with close access to Rome (Italy), Naples (Italy) with Pompeii nearby, and Palma de Mallorca (Spain). It also featured a sea day for the chance to experience all that the Disney Dream has to offer on board! We spent our days visiting popular monuments such as the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Colosseum, the Pompeii ruins, Vatican City, and more, with the comfort of returning back on board each night for the fun to continue with dining, entertainment, and activities! We had excursions planned for every port day and they offered us the chance to see so many incredible things. With each tour, we had educated and experienced tour guides to guide us, teach us, and talk about everything that we were seeing, which was extremely informative! Since these are popular tourist destinations, the queues we saw were quite lengthy, but with our tour guide, we were able to go right inside all of these destinations without waiting in any lines, which is one of the benefits of booking these experiences through Disney Cruise Line!

Let's Talk Dining

Like all Disney cruises, rotational dining is included for the opportunity to experience each of the three restaurants. On the Disney Dream, these include Royal Palace, Animator’s Palate, and Enchanted Garden. Each dining room has its own unique theme with exceptional menus every night. The serving team you have on your first night will be your servers every night for the entire duration of your cruise, which is something that makes the experience that little bit more magical as you get to really know the excellent staff Disney Cruise Line has on board! Our servers were always excited to hear about our day and quickly learned our taste preferences as they recommended to each of us our perfect meal! For quicker dining options, Cabanas is a buffet open for breakfast and lunch, and Flo’s V8 Cafe is a counter service open for early lunch, and dinner, both of which offer a large assortment of gourmet foods and are also included! For a quieter meal, there are also specialty dining options, such as Palo and Remy, which adults (ages 18+) can dine at for an additional fee. We dined at Palo for dinner on one night of this sailing, which is an Italian style restaurant that has exceptional food and an elegant atmosphere set in Venice. The food and service was excellent and was a perfect fit as we were sailing right along the coast of Italy! No matter where you choose to eat, you are sure to be pleased with every meal you have throughout your sailing!

Enchanted Garden

Entertainment

disney dream cruise mediterranean

The Sailing Away party was the perfect way to start our vacation as the cast sang and danced in celebration of sailing out of the port of Barcelona to start our Mediterranean adventure! On select nights, Broadway-quality shows were performed in the Walt Disney Theater! On this sailing there were three full productions: the Golden Mickeys, Beauty and the Beast and Disney’s Believe, which were each composed of exquisite talent from the singers, dancers, and actors! Along with these, some other performances included a juggling show, a ventriloquist comedian, and a magician! We also enjoyed listening to other live vocalists and musicians performing in various locations around the ship! In celebration of Disney Cruise Lines 25th anniversary there were two nights of fireworks with the first being the Shimmering Seas Light the Sky firework show to light the night sky as we watched from the upper deck! On pirate night, the Buccaneer Blast show was performed with fireworks going along with the popular tunes from Pirates of the Caribbean! Following the show, guests stayed on deck for the Club Pirate Dance Party to dance the night away while sailing through the Mediterranean sea!

What is there to do while on board?

Each day, check the Disney Cruise Line app for a complete schedule of everything that is going on throughout the ship so you can pick what you’d like to participate in! From family game shows, karaoke, trivia, art classes and more, there is always something exciting to do around the ship. You can even take a stroll through the numerous shops for Disney Cruise Line souvenirs and all of your Disney shopping needs! We were always entertained while we were on board! For the kids and teens on board, the kids clubs are always a great place to find something exciting to take part in! With Disney’s Oceaneer Club (3-12 years), Edge (11-14 years), and Vibe (14-17 years), kids and teens of all ages have the chance to meet new friends from around the world while participating in activities designed to fit their particular age groups interests!

Best European cruises: 6 ships that stand out across the pond

MSN has partnered with The Points Guy for our coverage of credit card products. MSN and The Points Guy may receive a commission from card issuers.

Prospective cruisers often ask me what the best Europe cruises are, but that question is difficult to answer because Europe is massive. It encompasses some 45 countries and includes such cruise regions as the Mediterranean, the Baltic and Northern Europe, the British Isles and the Canary Islands.

While cruisers are spoiled for choice in this part of the world, it can be difficult to know where to begin when researching voyages.

To help you out, I’ve narrowed down my favorites for the best cruises to Europe for different types of travelers, including families, couples and solo travelers.

Note: Pricing was accurate at the time of publication. Fares are subject to change without notice, and they do not include additional fees or port taxes.

Best European cruises for families: Disney Dream

Disney Cruise Line is great for kids; if you’re planning a cruise in Europe with kids, Disney Dream is a logical choice for best European cruise for families.

Character meet ‘n’ greets, awe-inspiring nighttime entertainment and fun dining experiences mean your kiddos will never be bored. The ship’s stellar kids clubs go above and beyond with a likeness of Andy’s room from “Toy Story” and a replica of the Millennium Falcon from “Star Wars” (with visits from R2-D2 and a squad of stormtroopers).

Disney Dream is not the line’s newest ship, meaning it’s a bit more manageable in terms of both size and price. It’s not the oldest, either, so families will find more things to do on board than on the line’s smallest vessels.

Ashore, Disney’s family-friendly excursions will take you to laze on the beach, explore museums and learn about history.

Disney Dream sails three- to 12-night cruises to Northern and Western Europe, the British Isles and the Mediterranean. Cruise fares start from $308 per person, per night, for a windowless inside cabin. You can visit ports like Belfast and Liverpool on cruises from Southampton; Florence and Rome (Civitavecchia) on Barcelona sailings; and Reykjavik, Copenhagen and Lisbon on open-jaw itineraries.

Best European cruises for couples: Viking Star

If you’re a couple seeking an upscale Mediterranean experience that offers real value and a chance to reconnect with your partner, look no further than Viking .

The line’s Viking Star sails various Mediterranean itineraries, and the European ports the ship visits offer plenty of opportunities for you to feel the love. Have a phenomenal lunch at a table for two in France, take a pizza-making class together in Italy, get a little giggly at a wine tasting in Greece, or run the casino tables together in Monaco.

Viking includes at least one free shore excursion per port in its fares. That means you can wander Europe’s romantic cobblestone streets hand in hand with your sweetie without paying a penny extra.

While fares aren’t the cheapest you’ll find, you’ll get a lot for your money. In addition to the tours, Viking includes Wi-Fi, specialty dining, and beer and wine with lunch and dinner in its prices.

Plus, all cabins on Viking’s ships have balconies, which is great if you want some fresh air but feel like keeping to yourself. Complimentary room service is available 24/7, so you can order dinner to your cabin for a relaxing alfresco dining experience for two.

Want even more ways to pamper yourselves together? Check out the phenomenal thermal suite in the ship’s spa , which offers sauna and steam rooms, tile loungers and aromatherapy rooms at no extra charge. Or, splurge on a couples massage, which will leave both of you feeling loose and refreshed.

Even better, Viking ships do not allow children on board. It’s a great excuse for you and your significant other to rekindle the romance without other passengers’ kids running around.

Viking’s Mediterranean sailings range from seven to 21 nights. Back-to-back itineraries are rarely the same as Viking Star circles the Med. The ship visits ports such as Barcelona, Spain; Marseille, France; Florence (Livorno), Rome (Civitavecchia), Sicily and Venice, Italy; Monte Carlo, Monaco; Dubrovnik, Croatia; Athens and Santorini, Greece; and Kusadasi, Turkey.

Fares start from $381 per person, per night, for a balcony stateroom.

Best European cruises for seniors: Seabourn Sojourn

If you’re a senior traveler who loves great food and excellent wine, one of the best luxury European cruises you can book is a Canary Islands cruise on Seabourn ‘s Seabourn Sojourn.

The small ship carries fewer than 500 passengers, and you won’t find raucous parties or tons of children. Instead, you’ll be met with stellar service, gourmet food, a room with a view (all cabins have at least a window) and relative peace and quiet. The long itineraries are ideal for wealthier passengers with lots of time to travel.

Seabourn Sojourn’s voyages to the Canaries span 10 to 28 days and visit the islands of La Palma, Gran Canaria and Madeira, as well as Lisbon, Portugal. Fares start from $434 per person, per night, for an ocean-view cabin. Extras like Wi-Fi, gratuities and alcohol (including the in-room mini-bar) are rolled into the fares.

Best for solo cruisers: Norwegian Epic

When Norwegian Epic debuted in 2010, it introduced Norwegian Cruise Line ‘s first cabins for solo travelers. Designed with single beds and a bit less square footage, these so-called studio cabins are clustered around an exclusive lounge reserved for solos. Special activities allow folks traveling alone to mingle and make new friends.

Since Norwegian Epic began sailing, nearly all of the line’s new ships — Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Getaway, Norwegian Escape, Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva — have been built with accommodations for one, which don’t charge occupants a single supplement . However, it’s Norwegian Epic that has a presence in the Western Mediterranean, offering solo cruisers a chance to explore Europe on a ship with staterooms just for them.

On board, passengers have plenty of choices for activities and dining. In addition to the usual cruise-ship offerings — pool games, dance parties, game shows, trivia and movie screenings — Epic offers many fun diversions, including an adults-only beach club at the back of the ship, spa treatments, a bowling alley and even gaming lessons (the latter three for a fee).

The vessel sails five- to 12-night voyages back and forth between Rome and Barcelona, calling on ports that include Naples, Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Marseille, Cannes and Florence (Livorno). At press time, last-minute fares started from $90 per person, per night, for a studio cabin for one.

Best European party cruises: Virgin Voyages’ Resilient Lady

If your Europe bucket list includes the Greek Isles, you don’t want to sail with children, and you enjoy a lively party atmosphere, you can’t go wrong with Virgin Voyages ‘ Resilient Lady. The third ship in the line’s fleet, Resilient Lady offers some of the best cruises to the Greek Islands.

Expect a casual vibe where passengers dress up like mermaids, crew dress up like drag queens, and performers look like real people. Toss in an onboard tattoo parlor, a food court ( it’s not a buffet ), free fitness classes and an app that lets you order Champagne to wherever you are on the ship, and you’ve got a product that has turned the cruise industry on its head.

Wild nights on board include raucous and sometimes raunchy theater shows, impromptu dance parties and Scarlet Night, a poolside bash reminiscent of a rave where everyone’s dressed in red. If that’s not enough, attend enough daily activities, and you might be invited to a secret nighttime tour of the crew bar, drinks included.

The ship offers a regular program of 7-, 10- and 14-night voyages, starting from $148 per person, per night, for an inside cabin. The itineraries involve a mix of ports in Greece, Montenegro, Croatia and Turkey, depending on the specific sailing you choose.

Best European cruises for ‘wow’ factor: Hurtigruten’s Richard With

Looking for a sailing that no other cruise line offers — one that will make everyone on TikTok and Instagram jealous? I’m putting my money on a line you’ve likely never heard of: Hurtigruten .

What began more than 130 years ago as a way for Norway’s residents to move themselves and cargo up and down the Norwegian coast continues today as both a means of transportation and a way for cruisers to experience the country’s culture.

On the cruise line’s Norwegian Coastal Express route, Hurtigruten’s Richard With ship calls on 34 ports in just seven days. Some are quick stops in the middle of the night while cargo is loaded and unloaded, but you technically could get off the ship in each port if you wanted to. That in itself makes this itinerary buzzworthy.

Still need convincing? These voyages also cross into the Arctic Circle and sail into Geirangerfjord (northbound from Bergen to Kirkenes) and Trollfjord (southbound from Kirkenes to Bergen), affording absolutely breathtaking views and, of course, bragging rights.

The two routes can be combined into longer 13-day sailings, meaning you’d sail round-trip from Bergen and see all the fjords. Seven-night northbound itineraries from Bergen to Kirkenes start at $331 per person, per night, for an inside cabin.

Bottom line

Ultimately, the best cruise to Europe is a bit subjective in that it depends where in Europe you’d like to go and what your travel style is. Be sure to weigh a combination of destination, price and onboard vibe when deciding which is best for you and your travel party.

Billed as the fastest slides at sea, these chutes offer thrill-seekers a heart-pumping 10-story freefall plunge.

The Kids Club on Holland America Line offers a fun supervised program for 13- to 17-year-old guests in an adult-free zone known as The Loft. The name is in the process of changing to High Score!, and you'll already find the updated concept on Oosterdam and Eurodam . The line's other ships will change over to the new venue throughout 2024. High Score! is a family game room that serves as a secret getaway for teens by day. In the evenings, entire families can come to play skeeball, board games and join in other activities.

For more energetic activities, join in the fun during indoor dodgeball and basketball games. Or, learn new dance moves from some of the dancers in the crew, then hit the dance floor for one of the competitions. At the "Rock the Boat Party," teenagers can dress up and party the night away with mocktails and new friends on the ship.

"Movies Under the Stars" is one of Princess' signature events. Guests can watch movies, sporting events and concerts while bundled up with cozy blankets on the pool deck outdoors. Teens will enjoy the complimentary snacks – not to mention the special movie nights designed with them in mind, such as "Scary Movie Night." You might even find teen makeovers and glitter tattoos some evenings on the ship.

The line's three newest ships – Discovery Princess , Enchanted Princess and Sky Princess – offer the most activities for teens, but all of the ships in the fleet host youth programs in partnership with Discovery, along with plenty of other family-friendly activities. These offerings include Discovery Family and Animal Planet shore excursions and onboard entertainment like "The Voice of the Ocean," a musical competition.

Parents will be able to keep track of their busy teens anywhere on the ship with the state-of-the-art Princess MedallionClass system. The quarter-size wearable medallion and accompanying app allow guests to personalize their itinerary and locate family members and friends on board.

When Sun Princess launches in February 2024, as the first vessel in the line's Sphere class, it will feature Park19. This top-deck family activity zone boasts many outdoor adventures, including Sea Breeze – the first Rollglider at sea. The ADA-accessible seated ride offers a hang-gliding experience with panoramic views of the ocean and ports of call. Families and teens can also check out the climbing obstacle course, cargo nets and lookout points. The ship also has a recreational court – which offers pingpong, shuffleboard, fitness classes and more – and a splash zone where you can cool off after all the outdoor activities.

Inside Sun Princess, tweens and teens will find two centers just for them: Neon Grove and The Underground. Both spaces offer cozy and colorful areas for young adults to hang out, socialize, and play video games on the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. They'll also find foosball, skeeball and air hockey on top of planned activities like movie nights, dance parties and scavenger hunts.

Adventures by Disney

Adventures by Disney offers river and expedition cruises for the whole family; the itineraries span many choices and experiences for tweens and teens with a focus on culture, history, gastronomy and adventure. The river cruises are operated in partnership with AmaWaterways, while the expedition cruises are a collaboration with luxury French cruise line Ponant.

If you're sailing on the Adventures by Disney Rhine River Cruise itinerary, for example, guests can choose between various exciting excursions. While you're docked in Strasbourg, France , for the day, teen-friendly options include a tour of the Black Forest, complete with a toboggan run and a visit to a woodworking museum. Another choice here is to visit Germany's Europa-Park, a one-of-a-kind theme park located between the Black Forest and the Vosges Mountains. In Melk, Austria, on the Danube itinerary, families can go for a bike ride along the Danube River, hike to the castle in Dürnstein or visit a family-run apricot farm.

Another great feature of these cruises is that teens can opt to have dinner and evening get-togethers with same-age cruisers, so they don't have to dine with their parents or younger siblings every night. Adventure Guides also curate special activities for teens like game shows and pool parties.

In destinations like Antarctica, the Adriatic and the Galápagos Islands , expert naturalists lead tours during these bucket list trips. You might even find a bit of Disney storytelling woven into the presentations by the Adventure Guides.

Keep in mind if you have younger kids as well as teens that children need to be 5 or older to sail on the river cruises. For the Galápagos Islands expedition cruises, the minimum age for Junior Adventurers is 7, and for expeditions to the polar regions, kids need to be 10 years of age or older.

Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival Celebration in Caribbean waters.

Carnival Celebration, which launched in November 2022, is the line's newest Excel-class ship. It features an expanded family and youth program, including its offerings for teens. The line also rolled out the new program fleetwide in spring 2023.

The Carnival Cruise Line teen programming at Circle "C" is for tweens ages 12 to 14, while Club O2 is for ages 15 to 17. In these venues you'll find entertainment like themed dance parties – and even a Carnival prom – as well as video games, movies and karaoke. Circle "C" stands for "Cruise, chill and connect," and that's what teens can do in this colorful, contemporary space with engaging counselors. New activities include anime drawing lessons and pop culture games at Circle "C." Older teens can foster new friendships while engaging in Japanese crafts and authentic tea ceremonies at Club O2.

Teens will appreciate Carnival's onboard water park, Waterworks, which includes a splash park and slides. Carnival Panorama even has the trampoline park Skyzone. Teenage passengers won't want to miss the first roller coaster at sea, BOLT, on Excel-class ships: Mardi Gras , Celebration and the upcoming Jubilee, scheduled to launch in December 2023.

For even more action, Vista-class ships feature Skyride. This two-lane, bike-like ride is suspended above the top deck of the ships and extends out over the ocean. More indoor fun can be found at Thrill Theater (on Horizon and Vista ), an immersive cinematic experience where you'll feel the seat rumble, the wind blow through your hair and even a spritz of water during the action-packed video.

Celebrity Cruises

This line's Teen Club features activities focused on kids 13 to 17. Some of the events offered for teens in the Camp at Sea program on Celebrity Cruises range from video game tournaments and sports competitions to culinary classes and silent disco parties. Teen cruisers can even book glass-blowing classes on Celebrity Solstice , Equinox and Eclipse . The offerings for young passengers are similar at either The Basement on Edge-series ships ( Edge , Apex , Beyond and Ascent, set to launch in November 2023) or at X Club on Solstice- and Millennium-class ships. Note, however, the line's three Galápagos expedition vessels do not have the teen venues. Families who need accessible accommodations, activities and programs will also find autism-friendly cruises on Celebrity.

When it comes to pampering, Celebrity's spas offer spa menus for 13- to 17-year-olds. Teens can book facials that are designed for young sensitive skin or have express pedicures and manicures. When you're ready to relax, schedule a two-by-two massage, where parents and kids can have a side-by-side treatment.

Celebrity also offers family-focused excursions that highlight cultural attractions, wildlife sightings and adventure. Some of these tours include seeing gentoo, king and Magellanic penguins in the Falkland Islands; taking an aerial tram through the treetop canopies of a rainforest in Costa Rica ; and going on a small culinary or sightseeing group excursion in Europe and other destinations around the world. On Caribbean sailings – especially when school is out for summer or on holidays – Celebrity has additional family-friendly shore excursions on its five- and seven-night sailings.

Cunard Line

Cunard Line offers programs and activities for passengers ages 13 to 17 years old in its Teen Zone. This dedicated space is a place for teens to hang out with cruisers their own age and play video and team games, table tennis, and more. On the first day of the cruise, you'll find an activity program for young guests delivered to the stateroom so your teens can plan out their vacation experience, which may include entertaining theme days, deck sports, quizzes and dancing at the disco.

Teens on Cunard Line can participate in the activities around the ship, hit the pool for a dip, practice their putting or try their hand at croquet. If you're sailing on Queen Mary 2, those interested in science, wildlife and the solar system can watch up to four 3D films a day (on sea days) in the largest planetarium at sea.

Port of Call Port of Call (Arrival, Departure)

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Barcelona is a charming, cosmopolitan port on the shores of the Mediterranean sea. This prosperous and bilingual (Spanish and Catalan) metropolis measures up to a city such as Madrid: its museums, theaters, art galleries and nightlife area of an impressive high standard. Besides that, this art and design centre has a lot of interesting sights to offer to its visitors. The best place to watch people go by, to stroll or simply relax, is 'Las Ramblas', a pedestrian street with dozens of outdoor cafes. Here, you’ll find flower-stands, book kiosks and small market stalls where they sell birds and small animals. You’ll also find an endlessly fascinating flowing receptacle of pageant-jugglers, singers, dancers, puppeteers, sidewalk artists, living statues and assorted oddballs on parade. Nearby is 'Plaça Real', with plenty of bars and restaurants, and 'Palau Guell', built by the Catalan architectural genius Antoni Gaudi in his undulating art-nouveau style. After having seen these sights, stroll the narrow winding streets of the 'Barri Gotic', the medieval Gothic quarter full of interesting tapas bars and cafes. Check out Picasso’s old hangout, 'Els Quatre Gats', which has been renovated without losing its bohemian charm. Or head for the old Barceloneta section on the waterfront. This working-class area, which was always slightly rundown and scruffy-looking, is now packed with paella restaurants. The new beach area, which runs from Barceloneta to the Olympic village, is much cleaner than the old beach area. Although some people believe that it has been cleaned up considerably, it might be a wise idea to stay out of the water. Fortunately, the beach itself is already a feast for the eyes (and ears), with its huge and roaring waves.

Livorno is situated along the coast of the Ligurian Sea, is one of Italy’s most important ports, both as a commercial and touristic port of call, an industrial centre of national importance and, among all of the Tuscan cities, it is generally considered the youngest, even though its territory holds historical testimonies of remote times that have survived the mass bombings of the Second War World. The city, developed from the end of the XVI century upon request of the Medici family, is famous for being the birthplace of prestigious personalities such as Amedeo Modigliani, Pietro Mascagni and Carlo Azeglio Ciampi. In the past, until the first years of the 20th century it was also a tourist destination of international importance for the presence of important seaside and thermal establishments, that give the city its the name of Montecatini-on-the-sea. Livorno, which at the end of the XIX century counted around 100,000 inhabitants and was the 11th most populated city in Italy and the 2nd in Tuscany, in the last decades has had a notable decline in the number of inhabitants and now is the 3rd most populated city in Tuscany after Florence and Prato.

Rome/Civitavecchia

disney dream cruise mediterranean

Located about 80 kilometers northwest of Rome, the Port of Civitavecchia is the port of Rome and a busy ferry and cargo port serving Italy and southern Europe. Lying on Italy’s eastern shores on the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Port of Civitavecchia has excellent direct connections to Rome. It is an important cruise and ferry port with regular passage to Sardinia, Malta, Sicily, Tunis, and Barcelona. Fishing is of secondary importance to the Port of Civitavecchia. In addition to ocean-going traffic, the Port of Civitavecchia also contains a thermoelectric center and metallurgical works. In 2006, over 51 thousand people called the Port of Civitavecchia home. The Port of Civitavecchia was built on an earlier Etruscan settlement. Emperor Trajan founded the Port of Civitavecchia in the early 2nd Century, calling it Centumcellae. Today, Trajan’s Port is preserved within today’s Port of Civitavecchia. A busy growing town during the late Roman era, the Port of Civitavecchia was attacked by Vandals and then destroyed by the Saracens in 828 AD. Residents escaped to the nearby Allumiere Mountains where Pope Leo IV built a walled town in 854. Eventually, the people returned to Civitavecchia (the name means “old city”). At the end of the 15th Century, the Port of Civitavecchia was under frequent attack by pirates. The naval arsenal was constructed in 1508. Pope Paul III commissioned the building of the keep, which was designed by Donato Bramante and then finished by Michelangelo in 1537, to protect the Port of Civitavecchia from the pirate attacks. In 1696, Civitavecchia became a free port under Pope Innocent XII. Because it was Rome’s main port, the French occupied the Port of Civitavecchia in 1849. The Port of Civitavecchia was linked to Rome by the Rome and Civitavecchia Rail Road in 1859. When the Port of Civitavecchia became part of the Kingdom of Italy in 1870, it was one of the Papal State’s most strongly-fortified towns when Papal troops welcomed General Nino Bixio on behalf of the Italian unification forces into the Port of Civitavecchia fortress. World War II brought destruction to as much as three-quarters of the Port of Civitavecchia. Reconstruction enlarged the Port of Civitavecchia beyond its pre-war area. The Autorita Portuale Civitavecchia (Port of Rome) is responsible for managing and operating the Port of Civitavecchia as well as the ports of Fiumicino and Gaeta. The modern Port of Civitavecchia is at the center of rail, road, and air networks that link it with central Italy and the world. The Port of Civitavecchia has capacity to handle about 11 million tons of cargo per year and over 1.5 million passengers. Cargoes include forest products, cereals, iron and steel, chemicals, automobiles, containers, and liquid bulk. In 2007, the Port of Civitavecchia welcomed 856 cruise vessels carrying 1.6 million passengers, and the total number of passengers using ferries and cruise vessels was 3.8 million. In 2007, the Port of Civitavecchia handled a total of 7.7 million tons of cargo. This total included 1.5 million tons of liquid bulk, 1.7 million tons of solid bulk, 4.6 million tons of packages, and 31.1 thousand TEUs of containerized cargo. The Port of Civitavecchia contains 28 berths of a total 5.6 thousand meters in length with alongside depths from 6 to 18 meters. Port properties include five warehouses containing 36 thousand square meters for handling and storing cargoes. The intermodal terminal includes seven thousand square meters of storage space and 12.5 thousand square meters for loading/unloading rail cars and parking. The Port of Civitavecchia is one of the busiest ferry ports in the world. Just 80 kilometers northwest of Rome, it is the main tourist destination for people traveling to the Eternal City. It is also a central port for ferries carrying passengers to more local destinations. The ferry terminal offers a complete line of amenities. Different ferry companies offer services to the various destinations. Moby Lines handles crossings to Olbia, Sardinia. Corsica Sardinia Ferries runs services to Golfo Aranci. Grimaldi Ferries carries passengers to Barcelona and Tunis, and Grand Navi Veloci operates a route to Tunis. Ferrovie dello Stato operates a combined rail-ferry service to Golfo Aranci.
