5 Of Dodge's Best Easter Eggs And Where To Find Them

Dodge Challenger air catcher

In recent years, Easter eggs — hidden messages primarily found in games and movies — have moved beyond media and into the automotive universe. Automakers like GM, Volkswagen, and Tesla have all jumped on the Easter egg bandwagon.

But probably no other automaker embraces them as much as Stellantis, the parent company of Dodge, Jeep, and Ram, among others. In fact, it could be argued that Jeep, then under parent company Chrysler, started the Easter egg craze back in 1997 with a simple air vent shaped like a radiator grill on its Wrangler. The rest, as they say, is history.

In comments made to Dodge Garage, Dodge designer Mark Trostle said, "It's about attention to detail, thoughtfulness. Putting those things in the car's design makes it that much more special as customers and owners." So while these fun, whimsical touches might not make a vehicle perform or drive any differently, they certainly add volumes to its personality and are often a nod to its heritage.

2019+ Ram 1500 Pickup Truck

Ram's fifth-generation pickup truck launched in 2019 to great fanfare, even earning the title of MotorTrend's 2019 Truck of the Year. It was lauded for its comfortable ride, fresh but unmistakably Ram styling, and luxurious interior that put many luxury cars to shame, never mind its truck competitors. It's within that well-appointed interior where we find a couple of Easter eggs — inside the voluminous center console, in particular.

On the floor of the center console, toward the rear, there's a pictorial history of all iterations of Dodge/Ram pickup trucks embossed into a plastic flap designed to keep items from sliding forward in the cavernous storage space.

Raise the armrest — which doubles as a lid for the center console and is large enough to serve as a desk for Ram owners who work in the field — and another Easter egg reveals itself. Molded into the plastic underside is a collection of mathematical charts and tables that includes a protractor, ruler, SAE-to-metric conversion charts, and more. Reportedly, the math-heavy Easter egg was created to disguise a visible mark that occurs when the plastic piece is cast.

2015+ Dodge Challenger

Dodge's third-generation Challenger has been with us since 2008, which is hard to believe because a near-constant stream of higher and higher horsepower engines has kept it relevant. Cashing in on the tail end of the retro car craze — as did fellow pony cars Mustang and Camaro — the Challenger's styling is true to its early 1970s origins. Even more so following a mid-cycle refresh in 2015 that ushered in a couple of new Easter eggs hidden away in the throwback coupe.

The first surprise is right in front of the driver's eyes. We mean that literally because there's a small silhouette of a Challenger car in the lower corner of the windshield. The uber-horsepower SRT Demon version of the Challenger (which was banned by the NHRA ) has a similar silhouette, except it's kitted out with widebody fender flares and doing a huge tire-smoking burnout. Also, examining the underside of the center console lid reveals an old-timey Dodge Brothers logo.

Moving to the exterior, the already-slick "air catchers" that replace the inboard headlamps to feed fresh air to the engine are lined with an image of an SRT Hellcat, SRT Demon, or T/A insignia, depending on the model.

1997+ Jeep Wrangler

As a brand, Jeep has to be the reigning champ of Easter eggs. Some models, like the Renegade, have over 30 Easter eggs. Besides the typical Willys-style miniature Jeeps plastered all over the wheels, windshield, and shifter, here are a couple of lesser-known surprises.

The current Wrangler pays tribute to its history every time the vehicle is started, with "Since 1941" on the instrument panel display and a graphic of that model from 1941 morphing into a modern-day Wrangler. In the rear cargo area, Wrangler owners will find a message in the battlefield communication method from the early days of Jeeps: morse code. What does the code spell out? It reads "JK," the two-letter body code for the latest iteration of the long-running Wrangler.

The Wrangler's pickup truck sibling, the Gladiator , also keeps a few secrets. There's a pair of flip-flop sandals molded into the cowl area in front of the windshield as inspiration for your next trip to the beach. Also, a heart shape followed by the number 419 appears at the rear edge of the Gladiator's cargo bed. That's the telephone area code for Toledo, Ohio, where the Gladiator is built.

Finally, on almost all Jeeps, if you look carefully inside the headlights, you'll see the brand's iconic seven-bar grill peeking back at you.

2013+ Dodge Viper

Even though Dodge's rambunctious V-10-powered supercar was killed off after 2017, it still has some of the coolest Easter eggs. The final iteration of the Viper, the fifth-generation model, has a map of the Nurburgring race track in Germany imprinted at the bottom of the passenger-side door pull to commemorate the occasion when a 2010 Viper ACR logged an impressive lap time of 7:12.13 (seven minutes and 12.13 seconds).

Similarly, there's another race track etched into the bottom of the Viper's cupholder. This time, it is Laguna Seca in California, where another 2010 Dodge Viper ACR made a then-record lap of 1:33.944. For those not in the know, ACR is short for American Club Racer, the most track-oriented version of the V-10 supercar.

Finally, besides a simple redline on the Viper's tachometer to warn drivers that they're approaching the V-10's maximum operating RPM, there's a Stryker logo (a.k.a. Viper logo) in the center of the tachometer that changes from black to red when it's time to shift to a higher gear.

2021+ Ram TRX

According to Ram, its TRX muscle truck is the "quickest, fastest, and most powerful mass-produced truck in the world." Indeed, it may be all those things, but one thing it isn't is modest. The plastic trim surrounding the engine bay features a T-Rex dinosaur devouring a raptor — a not-so-subtle nudge at the superiority of the TRX over its Ford F-150-based competitor.

Inside the center console between the two front seats, another playful diagram is molded into the plastic floor of a storage cavity. It shows the size differential between a person, the Ram TRX truck, and an actual T-Rex dinosaur on a 1:60 scale. Like under the hood, there's also a diminutive raptor being chased by the massive T-Rex.

When the TRX debuted in late-2020 , it dominated over Ford with a supercharged 6.2 liter HEMI V8 that produced 702 horsepower to the Raptor's measly 450 horsepower. Over the ensuing years, the Raptor bulked up on horsepower, culminating with the current Raptor R that makes 700 horsepower, just two horsepower shy of the TRX. Will this new parity put an end to the Easter egg digs at the Blue Oval brand? Somehow we doubt it.

Hidden Gems: Easter Eggs in Your Dodge

My buddy and fellow Dodge Garage contributor Josh Welton recently talked about how an enthusiast car needs to have authenticity. I agree with that, but I’ll go a step further…an enthusiast car has minutiae. Little things that make it stand out. Details that folks like you and I latch on to and recite when we’re telling people about our vehicles. We’re all guilty of it: “I have a such-and-such car with the so-and-so wheels in the yadda yadda color that was custom ordered by the brother of the owner of a dealership in West Nowhere, USA…it’s a One of One!”

But, what happens when car enthusiasts are the ones designing those vehicles from the start? You get minutiae actually engineered in. They call those details “Easter Eggs” – little hidden gems that give you a thrill when you find them. I wanted to find out more about Easter Eggs, so I went right to Mark Trostle, Head of Dodge and SRT ® Design. “It’s about attention to detail, thoughtfulness,” he tells me. “Putting those things in the car’s design make it that much more special as customers and owners.”

There’s a difference between good design and Easter Eggs. The parking stub holder in a sun visor is good design. A 100-year-old logo hidden under a door panel is an Easter Egg. We’re talking about things that make you smile, details that don’t make the vehicle drive better, but definitely make it a better vehicle.

Here are some of our favorite Dodge Easter Eggs:

A In the Gen 5 Viper, the passenger door handle features a small track map of the Nurburgring honoring our production car lap record there. B Also the GEN 5 Viper, under the cupholder between the seats, there is a track map of Laguna Seca.

If you own a Gen 5, I certainly hope you’ve seen the Easter Egg on your dash: a big Stryker logo that lights up and turns red when you head toward the V10’s rev limiter!

Trostle also points out, “The heat extractors in the hood are in a snakeskin pattern.  We used the same pattern in the taillights and grille”

The 2015 redesign was clearly aimed at the 1971 Challenger with the grille, tail lights, tic toc tach and even the shape of the dash and center console.  Those could be argued as “design cues” more than Easter Eggs, but lots of folks don’t realize the link

The new 2019 Ram 1500

There’s an embossed history of Ram pickups underneath the center console

Jeep ® has literally dozens of hidden Easter Eggs across their vehicle lineup

Grand Cherokees hide “Since 1941” and an original Willys Jeep in the headlights

Jeep Wrangler has a number of Willys Jeep references, including on the new JL shifter

Renegade features no less than 30 hidden Easter Eggs.  Some favorites:

Lights and panels shaped like military Jerry Cans

Inside the fuel filler is a nod to FCA’s Italian heritage; a small spider saying “Ciao, Baby!”

A Bigfoot embossed into the rear glass

Obviously, it’s no secret that in recent years, Dodge has spent a lot of effort to honor our past in current vehicles, but by paying homage to what got us here, we reach forward, leaping into the future with our own personality and style. Mark says, “It’s not just an Easter Egg for the fun of it, it’s thoughtfulness of the brand. Why not design it in?” That minutiae lends a brand authenticity and gives owners that certain something to grasp on to.

What is your favorite Easter Egg? Tell us about it in the comments below!

Hidden Features Inside Cars You’ve Probably Overlooked

dodge journey easter eggs

You probably spend a significant amount of time in your car , but how well do you really know it? Whatever make and model you drive, you can bet there’s a feature you’ve never discovered. Sometimes, that’s because it’s literally hidden (as in, you really have to search to find it), but in other cases, it’s something right in front of you.

From keeping you safe to helping you keep your car clean , these hidden features are worth shouting about.

Color Coding Under The Hood

dodge journey easter eggs

You don’t have to be a mechanic to know your way around a car engine . Many modern cars have color-coded engines to make it super simple to know what you should keep an eye on between services, such as the dipstick, oil cap, coolant, brake fluid and washer fluid. That way, you know you can pretty much leave all the black and gray stuff to the experts. Although the color-coded bits tend to be yellow or blue on many cars, some engines have red and green parts too.

Jeep’s Easter Eggs

Okay, this one is just for fun. Lots of car manufacturers hide “Easter Eggs” around their models — most of which serve no real purpose other than aesthetics. Vauxhall, Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai and Chrysler are some of the manufacturers that have put hidden messages in their models, which they don’t advertise. Jeep is especially well known for slipping well-hidden etchings into its vehicles.

Car and Driver found 30 Easter Eggs in the Jeep Renegade, several of which pay tribute to the company’s original iconic model, the 1945 Willys Jeep. If you drive a Jeep, take a close look and see if you can find an outline of this classic ride hiding somewhere.

Volkswagen’s Beetle Flower Vase

Perhaps in a nod to the car’s “flower power” heyday, for many years the Volkswagen Beetle came from the factory with a tiny, partially hidden flower vase, known as a “blumenvasen,” attached to its dashboard. If you weren’t a flower fan, it was a handy place to store pens, toothpicks, lipstick or anything else that could fit in the small space.

“Though we’re sad that the little flower vase is no longer available for the Beetle, it doesn’t mean that the iconic model doesn’t still retain elements of its past. Though the flower vase made way, extra storage has been made available with the Kaferfach glovebox, another nod to the past,” wrote  a Volkswagen dealership in Santa Monica when the vase was discontinued.

Honda’s Magic Seats

Lots of economy cars are small, but many models have hidden load space. For instance, the Honda Civic and Jazz boast a “Magic Seat” system, which lets you fold up the back seat bases to increase load space. This lets you transport anything from beach chairs to a large potted plant, as demonstrated on the Meridian Honda website. The 2018 Honda Fit, shown here, made it possible to sit in the back seat and have maximum legroom, thanks to the Magic Seats in front folding down.

BMW’s Brake Drying

Car designers are constantly trying to find new ways to improve a car’s performance and safety. To improve braking performance in wet weather, BMW came up with the Brake Drying system , which is activated by the windshield wiper ‘s rain sensor. It moves the brake pads closer to the rotors to keep them dry and improve stopping power in wet weather conditions. You might not even realize your “bimmer” (yes, this is the correct nickname for a BMW automobile ) has such a nifty feature included.

Nissan’s Easy-Fill Tire Alert

Having the correct tire pressure improves your vehicle’s performance but it can also save you money on gas. Yet many drivers probably don’t even realize that their car is fitted with a tire pressure monitoring system, which has actually been a legal requirement on all cars since 2008.

Every manufacturer has its own system and Nissan’s Easy-Fill Tire Alert is particularly cool. You simply start adding air and when the tire reaches the ideal pressure, the vehicle’s horn goes off. And if you over-inflate a tire, the hazard lights will flash three times to let you know you need to release some air.

Neck Warmers

Heated seats are a well-known feature of lots of modern cars, but some manufacturers take their commitment to driver and passenger comfort even further. Several BMW models , such as the 4 Series Convertible, offer neck warmers, which are available with different heat settings and integrated, independently-controlled air outputs. Mercedes-Benz also offers neck-warming via its Airscarf system , which the company says is “designed to extend the so-called ‘convertible season’ beyond the summer months.”

Subaru’s Traffic Light Watcher

For the more impatient drivers out there, waiting for a traffic signal to change can feel like forever. But Subaru came up with a neat solution. The automaker’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology uses a small beeping sound to tell the driver when traffic starts moving again. It also automatically adjusts your speed to maintain a pre-selected distance between you and the car in front, and detects objects in front of the vehicle that you are likely to hit — a feature that more and more modern carmakers are starting to integrate.

Drowsiness Detection

Even if you take regular breaks and have a steady supply of coffee on the go, you can still struggle to keep your eyes open during a long drive. That’s fine if you’re a passenger, but a drowsy driver is a very dangerous person. Several car companies, including Nissan, Honda, Mercedes, Toyota and Volvo, have developed their own drowsiness detection systems to detect the onset of sleep. For instance, the Mercedes Attention Assist system vibrates the steering wheel when it senses the driver is swerving and guides the vehicle back into its lane.

A Secret Vacuum

Normally, vacuuming a car isn’t the most enjoyable chore. The electric cord isn’t long enough, and the style of the vacuum itself might not work for all those nooks and crannies where dust and debris accumulate. And how do you get between the seats? Well, the Honda Odyssey has tried to solve the problem with a hidden, built-in vacuum with a long-range hose. To empty the HondaVac, as it’s called, you simply press the button on the face of the vacuum, pull out the canister, pop the tabs holding the lid and remove the filter.

Fuel-Saving Frames

The materials a car is made of make a huge difference when it comes to energy efficiency — which should be just as much of a concern these days as fuel efficiency. One of the best ways to make a vehicle more energy efficient is to make it lighter. Because aluminum can be forged to be just as strong as some steel, but at a much lower weight, it’s often chosen by automakers today.

Ford’s 2015 line of pickup trucks are a good example, as they were 700 pounds lighter than the previous year’s F-Series models. According to Ford , its lighter F-150s were up to 29% more fuel-efficient than the models they replaced, depending on the engine variation.

A Hands-Free Trunk

Trying to open your trunk when you have your hands full of groceries or sports equipment is the definition of a first-world problem. To reduce the risk of you dropping everything or resorting to an awkward display in the parking lot, some cars automatically open the trunk when you wave your hand under a sensor or when they detect your smart key in your pocket. For example, the Hyundai Hands-Free Smart Trunk opens as soon as it senses that the driver fob is approaching.

A Handy Fuel-Tank Location Reminder

Most drivers have looked at the little fuel pump icon on their car’s gas gauge hundreds of times without even noticing the arrow that sticks out of it. As soon as you know what this handy icon means, it makes the whole gas station experience a lot easier. The direction the arrow is pointing is the side of the car where the gas cap is located. If you’re someone who rents a lot of cars, this is a godsend.

Road Condition Indicators

Although cars have come with engine malfunction warning lights and open-door indicators for years, a warning for dangerous driving conditions is a relatively new addition. It’s an important one, because fog, rain and ice can make roads too treacherous to drive on. The road condition indicator — which shows up as a road with a snowflake on it — is controlled by a temperature sensor located near the front bumper and warns the driver that the temperature outside is low enough for roads to freeze.

Computer Driving Assistance

When you buy or rent a car, it’s definitely worth taking the time to learn about the Computer Driving Assistance features it comes with. While some of them are automatically activated, others require an action from the driver. For instance, downhill assist is an option to automatically prevent a car from accelerating during a descent. Other features include sensors to detect pedestrians and other obstacles, and parking assistance.

Hidden Storage

Lots of cars have storage areas that are so well hidden, you could never discover them unless you knew where to look. For instance, the Dodge Journey has a hidden compartment under the passenger seat, two pockets with removable bins under the floor behind the front row and a storage compartment running the full width of the rear cargo floor. And the Land Rover Discovery has a storage area for hiding valuables behind a climate control panel. Who would think to look there?

Conversation Mirror

In minivans and SUVs, a standard rearview mirror just doesn’t provide a good enough view of what’s going on in the backseat. The answer is a small, convex overhead “conversation mirror,” which is often designed to be pulled down from a compartment in the headliner. It helps drivers keep an eye on all their passengers without taking their eyes off the road ahead for more than a couple of seconds. The Kia Sedona, Hyundai Palisade and Toyota Highlander are several examples of family vehicles with this feature included.

Adaptable Ambient Interior Lighting

Many cars offer ambient interior lighting as a standard or optional feature. Depending on the model, this lights up the center console of the vehicle, as well as its door handles, cup holders, dash and footwells. Many high-end car makers even let customers choose the lighting color. While ambient lighting doesn’t improve vehicle safety, research has shown that it may increase a driver’s perception of safety.

One study, published in the journal Lighting Research and Technology in 2010, found that ambient lighting intensifies space perception, enhances the perceived quality of materials and design, helps drivers find controls and with their orientation in the car, and makes them feel safer while driving.

Hidden Umbrella

The trunk is the obvious place to store an umbrella — out of sight and out of the way. But when it starts raining, you want it to be within reach before you get out of the car. A couple of car manufacturers have given their drivers a neat solution to the umbrella storage problem. Both Škoda and Rolls Royce have a space in the door panel to ensure this rainy day essential is right at your disposal.

Enhanced Soundproofing

Bose doesn’t just make cutting-edge headphones. The tech giant also helps reduce noise in cars, thanks to its QuietComfort Road Noise Control (RNC). The movements and vibrations that create noise in a car are monitored by accelerometers mounted onto the vehicle, and the Bose RNC technology uses that information to send an acoustic cancellation signal into the cabin via the vehicle’s sound system. The bottom line? Less noise and a much more peaceful, enjoyable ride.

Dipping Rearview Mirror

If you didn’t know it was possible to tilt your car’s rearview mirror to reduce headlight glare, you’re not the only one. You simply use the tab below the mirror to move between “day” and “night” settings. This feature increases safety by stopping the driver from being dazzled by rear traffic. Some manufacturers, like Seat , make cars with auto-dimming rearview mirrors as standard.

Electronic Stability Control

You’ve probably seen the little icon of a skidding car somewhere in your vehicle but you might not have known what it signifies. Since 2011, all cars sold in the U.S. have been equipped with stability control , but many drivers are unaware when this feature is activated. When the electronic stability control on a car is activated, you’ll see the little skidding car somewhere on the dashboard. This feature engages the car’s brakes (on one or more wheels) to control a turn, and is an important safety system during sharp turns or when traction is lost in wet weather conditions.

Lane-Centering Sensors

To make highway travel safer — and more tolerable — many car manufacturers are adding self-driving features to their models. For instance, lane-departure warning (LDW) and lane-keep assistance systems (LKAS) rely on a camera mounted behind the windshield to read the lane lines ahead and ensure a vehicle stays in its lane while driving. LDW systems signal to the driver via an audible warning or vibration when they have to take corrective action. LKAS systems correct the driver’s steering to automatically keep the car in its lane.

These systems often have to be turned on via dashboard buttons, so be sure to read your manual to see if yours has them.

Takeout Hooks

Some of the best hidden features in cars are the simplest ones. Who doesn’t need a hook — or five? Look around the interior of your car, and you might just spot some handy places to hang your shopping or takeout bag. In SUVs, hooks are often found in the cargo area, but they can also be found near the headrests and above rear doors.

A Sophisticated Braking System

You’ve probably heard of the anti-lock braking system (ABS) that’s been standard for years, but most car owners don’t know how it works. Basically, when the system is activated, wheel speed sensors determine if one or more wheels might be about to lock up during braking. If they identify a lock-up, a series of hydraulic valves are activated to limit the braking on that wheel. ABS is triggered only in slippery conditions or when the driver slams on the brakes to prevent skidding and maintain steering control. In the U.S., ABS has been a requirement on all new cars built since Sept. 1, 2013.

Heads-Up Display

Even with advancements in car technology and dashboards, people still sometimes feel the need to take their eyes off the road. Whether it’s checking the speed you’re driving or even just to see what song’s playing in your car. Fortunately, there has been a particular advancement that can help you take your eyes off the road at least a little bit less. And that’s a heads-up display. Like in fighter jets, information relating to your vehicle is projected onto your windshield. That way you can look forward and stay appraised of the situation on the road while still finding out this important information.

Blind-Spot Monitors

How much does your heart rate increase whenever you change lanes? You can adjust your mirrors to get as much information as possible, but you’ll always have a blindspot that you can’t see without turning your head. And some driving instructors tell you to never do that. Well, these blind-spot monitors will hopefully remedy your worries. They use radar and other sensors in order to determine if there are any obstacles to your left or right or behind the vehicle. And if there are, it’ll flash a warning light. There might even be an audible warning if you turn on your turn signal.

Back Seat Reminders

How many stories have you heard of parents leaving their children in the back seat of a car for hours. Well, automakers have taken steps to try to stop this from ever happening again. If the car detects a rear door having been opened, either right before or right after starting the car, the system will make a chime or some flash on the dashboard when the car stops and is put in park. Something to remind the driver of what they left in the back seat. It might not even be a child, but food or drinks you just shouldn’t leave in the back for too long.

Smartphone Integration

People use their smart phones for just about everything nowadays. So integrating that technology into our vehicles seems like a no-brainer. Apple and Android have both developed applications for integrating phones with cars, called Apple CarPlay and Android Auto respectively. They allow you to connect your device to your vehicle and use certain features while still being safe while driving. Most notably, you can more easily take advantage of navigation tools. You can even look at your phone’s screen on your dashboard.

Adaptive Cruise Control

Cruise control lets you maintain speed more easily and its pretty useful when driving on the open road. But when you run into another car on the road, your cruise control speed may not be helpful anymore. Fortunately, newer vehicles have begun taking advantage of adaptive cruise control. That utilizes the sensors on the car to scan the road ahead and change the car’s speed automatically, based on what’s on the road. It’ll even slow down to stay a safe distance away from other vehicles. These systems can even work in stop-and-go traffic.

Seat Massagers

Long car trips can be really taxing for the driver. However, there are some cars that can make the experience a little more enjoyable. They have built-in massage features into the chairs. They help to loosen muscles and relax tension. The massage could even improve one’s circulation. Regardless, it definitely reduces the amount of stress you’ll be feeling while driving.

Heated Steering Wheel

Heated seats are good enough. But what about a heated steering wheel? If you need to scrape the ice off of your windshield before driving, your hands will likely get cold. And if you have to spend time digging out your car, they’ll probably feel numb. And that’s why a heated steering wheel has so much use. To turn on the steering wheel’s heating system, there’s a button on the dashboard. It’ll start to warm up your fingers in no time.

Fuel Door Ice Scraper

The Czech Republic has a varied landscape, but it can still get pretty cold there in the winter, leading to plenty of snow and frost. That’s why Skoda, a Czech car company, decided to include ice scrapers with each of their sold vehicles. They’re not particularly large, hidden in the fuel door, but they can get the job done in a pinch. Check your car for this addition if you live in the Czech Republic. Or if your car was made there. You might have a Skoda vehicle.

Jeep Easter Eggs

This one isn’t so much an advancement to help make your life easier, but it is an interesting thing that may happen to be on your car. Jeep tends to leave a lot of easter eggs on their cars on their newer models. Some include silhouettes of older Jeep models. They can be found on the body, tired, or even the bumper. The Jeep Renegade in particular even has a spider that says “Ciao Baby!” next to the gas cap.

Hyundai Puddle Lights

Have you ever wondered why some high-end cars have lights on underneath them? Well, they’re not just for show (although the color and lighting often appears pretty showy). As it turns out, these are puddle lights. They’re designed to illuminate the ground underneath you at night. That way, when you get out of the car you don’t accidentally step in a puddle. A minor thing, but helpful nonetheless. This is most notable in Hyundai’s Genesis line of cars.

Subaru Eyesight Assist

Subaru’s EyeSight Driver is the culmination of a lot of the different safety driving equipment discussed before. It monitors traffic around the car and your position within a lane. It can then alter the speed of the car or move the wheels depending on your location. This is how it optimizes cruise control and lane centering. It also includes a pre-collision braking feature.

BMW Ambient Air

Sometimes your car may just start to smell bad, so you get an air freshener. Well, BMW thought about that in advance. Their cars come with built-in air fresheners called Ambient Air. The scent cartridges are installed in the glove box and you can swap the scents or refill the system easily. It comes with eight different scents based on your personal preference.

Mercedes-Benz’s Pre-Safe Sound

The Pre-Safe sound is a feature in Mercedes-Benz cars that’s intended to protect your hearing during collisions. If the car detects an unavoidable collision, a special noise is played over the car’s sound system at 80 decibels. That, in turn, activates a reflex in your ears that will protect your eardrums from the sound of the collision. You might not get out of the accident unscathed, but at least your hearing won’t be affected.

Internal Trunk Release

This is actually a safety feature that’s been mandated in all cars made since 2001. You’ve probably seen it before, but just didn’t think much of it. And why would you? Most people don’t need to get out of their car from the trunk. This is the trunk release cable. Ordinarily it glows in the dark, but even in circumstances when you can’t see it, it shouldn’t be too hard to find. Just pull it towards the front of the car and the trunk will pop open.

Citroen’s Shopping Cart

Citroen’s car the Picasso has an interesting feature. And that’s that they come with a shopping cart, or, as the company calls it, a shopping trolley. It folds up to fit inside the trunk for easy storage. It wasn’t a particularly popular feature, as most people rarely find themselves in need of their own shopping cart, but it was still free. So there wasn’t much of a point in just discarding it.

Rolls-Royce’s Champagne Cooler

The Rolls-Royce Phantom has a bunch of hidden luxury features. But some of those have already been discussed. The interesting one here is the champagne cool. The Phantom actually has one in the backseat. Of course, it makes sense it’s in the back as opposed to the front seat. The driver shouldn’t be drinking alcohol anyway, so the drinks are for the passengers.

Mini Cooper’s Openometer

Have you every wondered how long you had been driving with the top down on your convertible? Well, even if you haven’t, Mini Cooper gave you a way to find out anyway. The Openometer in Mini Cooper Convertibles tracks how many miles you have driven with the top down. Not a necessity when it comes to driving, but an interesting feature nonetheless.

Automatic Hazard Lights

Hazard lights are incredibly important for drivers. They alert others on the road if you’re driving well below the speed limit or are otherwise stuck on the road. However, it can be easy to forget to turn them on in the first place. Some cars have hazard lights that turn on automatically when they detect damage to the vehicle, such as flat tires or engine problems. You won’t have to worry about pushing the button if it happens immediately. You just have to worry about getting out of the way.

Mercedes’ Drive Pilot

People are aware of Tesla’s autopilot system, but Mercedes has actually been working on one of their own. It’s called Drive Pilot and has already been implemented into some of their vehicles. While the goal is to create fully automatous cars, they aren’t quite all the way their yet. When you have Drive Pilot engaged, make sure to still keep your eyes on the road just in case.

Fob-Controlled Windows

Your car fob, or your keys, are obviously used to unlock your car. But what if you just want to pop open or close a window you for forgot to roll up? A lot of cars actually have something to take care of that. Hold the unlock button on your car fob for five seconds and it should roll up. It’s a feature that isn’t well-advertised, but it even works on some older vehicle models.

Fuel Cap Holder

When you take the cap off of your gas tank you often have no idea what to do with it. Some of them are attached to small cords so you can sort of let them hang, but others are completely unattached after you screw them off. Try looking a little more closely at your car’s fuel door next time you need to refill some gas. As it turns out, a lot of vehicles actually have gas cap holders built in. So, there’s no need to worry about where to place it after all.

Car Handles

This handles are very obvious in cars and everyone knows that they’re there. But do you know why they were put in cars in the first place? They’re not for steadying yourself in the car, they’re actually for handicapped and elderly people. They’re supposed to grip onto them to help them while getting in the car and stay safe while riding.

Smart Parallel-Parking

Parallel parking is one of the most difficult things to do while driving. It’s certainly the most difficult way to park. It’s not even a required part of some driving tests. Fortunately, some cars come with computer assistants to help when parallel parking. They sense the surroundings of the car to ensure you don’t hit anything while backing in. And that lets you park with much less difficulty than normal.

Tire Pressure Indicator

Ever seen this exclamation point inside of a U-shaped symbol? Well, if you haven’t before, and you’re not a car junkie, you probably don’t know what it means. But if you have seen it before, that means you’ve had low tire pressure. When this indicator comes up, it’d be in your best interest to get more air in your tires as soon as possible.

5 Hidden Features in Your Dodge Ram: Easter Eggs in Your Truck

by Jerry Ford | Last Updated October 20, 2022 | 4 min read

dodge ram trx

Have you had the privilege of scouring your truck for Dodge RAM Easter eggs? Finding a new one you weren’t aware of can be fascinating and potentially unknown to the rest of the RAM world.

These fun hidden gems are found throughout GM vehicles, from the Dodge Challenger to the Chrysler 300. However, RAM trucks seem to have the most creative Easter eggs. Let’s look at what we consider the best across different RAM and trim models.

What Is an Easter Egg?

dodge journey easter eggs

Historically, an Easter egg is a special hidden clue or addition a game developer or movie director leaves behind in their work for players and viewers to find. These can be fairly obvious, while some can be so subtle you almost wouldn’t notice them with the naked eye.

Many Easter eggs connect various movies or reference other films and games, almost in a roundabout way of paying homage to the classics. Alternatively, directors will drop Easter eggs referencing other films they’ve made.

For example, in Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark, there’s a scene where they’re in a cave surrounded by hieroglyphs. If you look closely, two of the graphics etched into one of the columns are that of Star Wars robots R2D2 and C3PO (George Lucas directed both of these films).

Automakers leave Easter eggs in a similar way, using these gems to reference classic versions of a particular model. Sometimes they reference someone who worked on the vehicle or helped design it. And sometimes, they mean nothing at all.

A classic automobile Easter egg is the hidden car features on the Challenger. Along the windshield’s edge, a car is hidden behind some of the black trim.

There are tons of these hidden jewels all over different makes and models. But today, we give you the top five Dodge RAM Easter eggs.

1. The History of RAM Pickups

This is one of our favorite Easter eggs of all time, specifically because of the nostalgia factor, which is what Easter eggs are all about. Do you own a 2019 Dodge RAM 1500?

If you do, you might want to look underneath the Dodge RAM center console lid. There’s an embossed history of the Dodge RAM – clear as day.

Starting from the left, there’s a clear string of photo etches, beginning with what is clearly the original 1st Generation RAM from 1981. The second is – you guessed it, the 2nd Generation RAM.

The etched work cycles through, showing the 3rd and 4th Generations. This gallery culminates with the truck you’d be sitting in if you were looking at this Easter egg in person – a 2019 5th Generation RAM.

2. Math Notes

We don’t know if Dodge expects RAM owners to be math nerds. We wonder if RAM owners actually do math problems inside their vehicles. We’re thinking probably those in construction or engineering.

This Easter egg pays homage to all the on-the-fly math wizards out there and provides a little assistance in the process. Open up the center console and look at the plastic underside; you’ll find many different math notes and conversions.

This Easter egg includes the Pythagorean Theorem, a square and compass with detailed angles and measurements, and a chart referencing different decimal conversions. You’ll have no excuse for measuring a cut wrong ever again if you own a 2019 Dodge RAM 1500.

3. The Ruler

The team who put together the 2019 RAM determined that owners would have a way to arrive at precise measurements. This secret tool proves to be incredibly useful in the 2019 RAM 1500.

The wide section of each rear-floor stowage compartment contains a 15-inch ruler molded into the plastic out of the outer edges. Could it be another tool for contractors?

We like to believe this one is geared toward the fishermen out there, ensuring anything you catch and keep is at least a citation size. This one is easy to miss and blends in perfectly with the hard plastic it’s molded into.

4. The Clever Girl

This Easter egg on the 2020 Dodge RAM TRX is one of the easiest to spot but still cool nonetheless. After popping the hood of this RAM model, one of the first things you notice is the massive airbox lid.

Pop this lid off, and what do you see staring you right in the face? The etched likeness of a T-Rex eating a Raptor.

5. Must Go Faster

Finally, we share with you the final Easter egg, another clever jab at Ford. Underneath the Dodge RAM center console of the 20202 RAM TRX, you’ll see an embossed picture of the giant T-Rex following closely behind the smaller Velociraptor, depicting the famous scene from Jurassic Park.

Behind the T-Rex is Dr. Ian Malcolm, urging the much smaller Raptor that they “must go faster.” RAM certainly doesn’t take it easy on Ford with the 2020 TRX.

Find Your Easter Eggs

Now that you have a better idea of the best Dodge RAM Easter eggs, go forth and see how many of your own you can find. One thing is for sure – you’ll never look at the nooks and crannies of another car or truck the same again.

Is anybody aware of some so called "easter eggs" in the software of the car? Does some one know if the navigation display can be used to see "inside" information of the car. Grtz, 1.8SXT First Edition

I'm told that you have to hit the horn 5 times quickly, then 3 times for approx 3 seconds each time while tuned to AM 660 at 20 minutes after 4PM GST. Then you will see a surprise. Or I could be making this all up.

I tried this. It works! It causes neighbors and police to show up.

4:20 huh? :jok:

if you hold the Trip button in while turning the car on (but not starting it) the gauges will do a full sweep and then incremental sweep, helps calibrate the gauges. it also spits off some info in the trip display but i've yet to figure out what that information is.

My OBDII scanner won't work on Callie O'Malley. It just says that there's a data link failure. I don't know if OBDII will work on the O7 models or not.

I guess this would be a "hidden" feature as it didn't show up till I got my new phone... Now when the U-Connect/Bluetooth connects with my phone, the phones battery power is displayed. It didn't show this feature with my old phone connected!

do u guys mean hazard lights? i mean rear fog lights... really?

Works on mine-I don't have EVIC either and as far as I know US/Canadian models are identical with regards to electronics with the exception of DRLs.

Wow thanks to everyone for all this info...i didnt know i could self check these things. :wow::smileup::smiley_thumbs_up::wavey::Racing:

dodge journey easter eggs

I have had it for over a year and haven't found anything cute yet!

I think its only on the 2015 year models, I don't know why they started it then, but they did.

dodge journey easter eggs

The only Easter eggs I've seen so far are the Challenger silhouette in the windshield and the Dodge Brothers logo on the inside of center console lid. In terms of surprises though, one surprise I like is that if you have it set to turn the headlamps on with the windshield wipers, the interior lights will stay on the brightest setting instead of dimming if it's light out. Even on my 2013 Charger, this doesn't happen (the interior lights go on their nighttime, dimmed setting, making them hard to see during the daytime). Nothing major, but a nice improvement.

dodge journey easter eggs

Here is one in the center storage console and of course the windshield one so that is two of them!! Anyone else find any??????

I see in your signature that the car came in today, CONGRATS.

I think there's a thread on this somewhere else...? Still love the easter eggs, straight outta the Jeep book of fun stuff!

Thanks guys!!! I'm a very happy dude-much happier than Taz!:surprise: Whahahahaha sorry dude had to poke you at least once!!

Couldn't get a good picture of them, but I love that the front and rear side lights (Amber in front, red in rear) project a pattern on the ground. Very cool!!!! Sent from AutoGuide.com Free App

You mean these? I think they are cool too! I think there has got to be more eggs!

Tire Automotive tire Yellow Rim Light

Yep, that's them! Pic turned out great! Sent from AutoGuide.com Free App

Welcome-keep searching!

Do you have a pic of the puddle lights from the doors?

I am getting my windshield replaced with a Mopar windshield this weekend from safelite. I want to some how retain the little challenger by the vin and told them that. Does dodge make these windshields or is it hit and miss.

dodge journey easter eggs

Speaking of easter eggs, The new renegades are full of them! A cool feature tbh. I don't own a '15 but the only easter eggs I am aware of are the "Dodge Brothers" within the interior console and the Challenger icon on the front windshield. Would be interesting if there were a few more hidden!

Ram 1500 center console lid

Challenger SRT windshield logo

Jeep bigfoot Easter egg

2015 Dodge Viper tachometer

2021+ Ram TRX

yellow Ram TRX truck

These Are the 8 Coolest Automotive Easter Eggs on New Cars Today

jonathon_klein

Though new cars seem more alike with each passing year, automakers are still finding ways to add a bit of quirk to these almost predetermined designs. Look closely and you'll come across these Easter eggs of varying shapes, sizes, and locations—not stuffed with candy, but the hopes and dreams of everyone who wants to see a bit of personality endure in the future.

Ahead of Easter this weekend, we’ve compiled a list of our eight favorite automotive Easter eggs found in from everything from Koenigseggs to minivans. Designer whimsy is most definitely not dead.

8. Koenigsegg’s Flying Ghost

message-editor%2F1555713501908-webp.net-resizeimage31.jpg

When Koenigsegg moved to its current headquarters in Angleholm, Sweden, the company took over a disused Swedish Air Force base that was once home of the Swedish Fighter Jet Squadron No. 1, which had a flying ghost as its insignia. To pay tribute to this rich history, each Koenigsegg hypercar that leaves the factory comes with a Flying Ghost emblazoned across its engine bay.

7. Chrysler Pacifica Hiding Its Caravan History

message-editor%2F1555712864937-ch017_053pfh1kqcq351663g7a1e6lsqq8r3s.jpg

The Pacifica is, for all intents and purposes, the fourth generation of the Dodge Caravan. We know it says Chrysler on the badge, but trust us, it’s a Caravan and Chrysler cheekily cops to it too. On a rubber mat that sits below the infotainment system, Chrysler's designers added a 3D rendering of the four generations of Caravan the company has produced, starting with the O.G. 1984 model and ending with the current Pacifica. See, we told you.

6. Aston Martin DB11 Taillight Emblem

message-editor%2F1555713127973-webp.net-resizeimage27.jpg

Have you looked at the tail end of an Aston Martin DB11 lately? If you haven’t, try staring at the one above. Notice how the lithe LED taillights curve up and around the edges. Look familiar? They actually frame the entire rear end with a larger outline of Aston Martin’s trademark wing emblem. With the marque’s badge at the center of the car, the taillights extend Aston’s wings in far grander fashion.

5. Volvo XC90 Spider Bin

message-editor%2F1555713750386-spider.jpg

Before the latest Volvo XC90 debuted in 2014, Volvo’s Vice President of Vehicle Line 90 Dennis Noeblius saw the bland design of the third-seat cubby hatches and wanted to liven things up. Good thing he had the power to change up the injection molded plastics. As the third-seats were designed for children, the VP made the call to include a tiny, happy spider that would be engraved on the underside of the cubby hatches. Don't worry kids, Spindel is your friend.

4. Jaguar E-Pace Jaguar and Cub

message-editor%2F1555712651190-jaguar-e-pace-cub-graphic.jpg

Jaguars have always been big, meaty, luxurious automobiles. But with the addition of Jaguar’s E-Pace to its ever-growing lineup, the company’s designers wanted to add a bit of fun and celebrate the pint-sized crossover’s birth. There are two jaguars—the animals, not the cars—cut into the windshield surround. One is a full-grown jaguar, the other a cub representing the E-Pace’s size and newness. Very Lion King , Jaguar.

3. Tesla Model X Holiday Show

message-editor%2F1555713368339-webp.net-resizeimage30.jpg

King of the automaker Memes, Sultan of delivering weird updates no one ever asked for, and Grand Poobah of skirting SEC laws and regulations Elon Musk is at his very heart, a showman. As such, his company’s Teslas are riddled with little Easter eggs, including a reference to Space Balls when activating Ludicrous Mode. However, the Model X ’s "Holiday Show" is easily the wildest. Activated with a code, the Model X starts up a crazy light show synced up to Trans-Siberian Orchestra's famous rendition of "Carol of the Bells" while the Falcon doors move up and down. If only Elon put as much thought into Tesla’s production line...

2. Bugatti’s Grille

Though many believe that Bugatti ’s traditional horseshoe grille was designed because of founder Ettore Bugatti’s love of horses—the man went so far as to build the Molsheim factory gate high enough to allow his entry on horseback. But it actually comes from Ettore’s father Carlo, a designer himself who worked with nature and used an egg-shaped oval in many of his designs, referring to it as a "perfect" shape. The grille was on the first Bugatti and continues on the Chirons of today to honor Ettore’s father.

1. Jeep Has Too Many to Count

Jeep could compete with Marvel with the number of Easter eggs hidden throughout the company’s vehicles, making the company an easy pick for number one. Here are just a small number tucked away on Jeeps: An outline of a Willys Jeep painted on the Wrangler wheels, the trademark Jeep grille punched into the Renegade’s headlight design, a Willys Jeep cut into the windshield surround, “Since 1941” etched into many of Jeep’s steering wheels, rubber mats with 3D rendered Moab trails, “Ciao Baby” in the plastic surround on the Renegade’s fuel filler neck, the Toledo area code imprinted on the bed liner of the new Jeep Gladiator for the Toledo Plant where it’s built, and a Yeti cut into the rear heating element on the Renegade.

The Hidden Easter Eggs Most Dodge Viper Owners Missed

we’re going to show you two hidden easter eggs inside the Dodge Viper, arguably the most famous and coveted Dodge muscle car of the modern era.

Easter eggs in cars come in all shapes and forms. These are little telltale signs that are usually hidden from plain sight, meaning drivers have to do some digging to find them. Some easter eggs tell the history of a carmaker in snippets, while others are just fun little extras that designers enjoyed putting in. Tesla, for instance, probably has the most hidden easter eggs of any car company in their vehicles—and more are coming out every update patch.

Dodge is another company that revels in their fun little secrets. We’ve made an entire article on easter eggs found in Dodge cars . For instance, the newer Dodge Challengers have a silhouette of the car etched into the windshield. The Challenger SRT Demon has a graphic that pays homage to its Guinness World Record, as well as hidden SRT logos in the hood vents.

The list goes on. But here, we’re going to show you two hidden easter eggs inside the Dodge Viper, arguably the most famous and coveted Dodge muscle car of the modern era. These are secrets that most drivers probably missed, and they might not make sense to some people (especially the first one), until you know the history behind them. That’s what makes easter eggs so fun, and even more fun to find!

Hidden Race Track Outlines

Starting with the fifth-generation Viper, two easter eggs were embedded into the car itself. These come in the forms of two famous racetracks that the Viper has a history with: the Nurburgring Nordschleife track in Germany and the Laguna Seca in California.

The famous Nurburgring track is etched into the plastic on the door pull above the window switch. At the track, the 2010 Viper ACR tracked a stellar time of 7:12:13. The second tattoo of the Laguna Seca track is etched in the cupholder over the transmission tunnel. At the Monterey, California track, the 2010 Dodge Viper ACR set a lap record of 1:33.944.

Also, the rubber floor mats of the fifth-gen Viper come with the same etched maps, but with the lap times of 7:12:1 and 1:33 etched into the respective maps.

Stryker Logo Color Change

The other cool Dodge Viper easter egg that people might’ve missed is in the dashboard. Everyone hates speed limiters, and none more than Dodge, it would seem. The Viper has a rev limiter that prevents drivers from harming their engines, but you might be surprised when you hit it.

Once a driver hits the rev limiter, the Stryker symbol (aka the Viper symbol) that’s etched in black in the background of the gauge cluster lights up red! This is a cool way to turn a negative aspect into a positive one, though it might have the adverse effect of instigating drivers to try to reach that limit. Don't say that we didn't warn you!
