Bye Bye, Brit: Inside the Final Show of Britney Spears' 4-Year Las Vegas Residency

After four years as the top act on one of the world's most famous streets, Britney Spears has wrapped her residency show on the legendary Las Vegas Strip

After four years as one of the top acts on one of the world’s most famous streets, Britney Spears has wrapped her residency show on the legendary Las Vegas Strip.

“It’s bittersweet,” she said on Instagram before the last performance.

The pop star initially launched her “Britney: Piece of Me” show at Planet Hollywood in December 2013. Originally slated for a two-year run, the pop extravaganza was extended for two more years after the show sold out time and time again.

In capping off her final show on New Year’s Eve , Spears did what she’s done for four years: She delivered her hits. For about 100 minutes, Spears was nonstop, dancing around the stage seductively when she wasn’t backstage for one of her many costume changes.

“It’s almost f—ing New Years! Who’s going to get naughty tonight,” she asked the audience full of diehard fans at 11 p.m., many of whom wore shirts bearing her face. Among the crowd was her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, accompanied by her 9-year-old daughter, Maddie. The “Womanizer” singer came out to “Work Bitch” in knee-high boots and a cleavage-baring black lingerie bodysuit. Later, in one of the highlights of the night, she showed off her midriff while riding an oversized guitar like a mechanical bull. As Spears has done since day one, she brought out a guest from the audience during “Freak Show.” She dressed the man, named Casey, in S&M gear and playfully forced him crawl on the ground while she lightly spanked him with a whip.

“Four years, who knew,” Spears said as she left the stage for the last time. However, there is a real possibility that Spears could be returning to the desert again. As her final show grew near, chatter in entertainment circles suggested that Spears would eventually sign on for another Las Vegas residency in the near future.

Spears’ show helped usher in a new era for Las Vegas in regards to residency acts. The city was once known as a place for older artists to live out their glory years. Thanks in part to Spears, Vegas reinvented itself as a place to see top younger artists, including Jennifer Lopez, Backstreet Boys, Bruno Mars, all of whom currently have residency shows. Lady Gaga announced that she, too, will begin a Vegas residency in late 2018.

Britney Jean Spears (born 2 December, 1981) - aka Britney Spears - is a recording artist and entertainer from Mississippi, US.

Britney Spears started performing at a very young age, by performing on stage productions and television shows. Then, in 1997, she was signed to Jive Records.

Spears was credited with leading the revival of teen pop in the late 1990s, she was said to be the most gifted teenage pop idol for many years. Her first album "Baby One More Time" became an international success, making her well known in the music industry. The album was released in 1999, followed by the album "Oops!... I Did It Again" in 2000. She had the best selling albums by a teenage solo artist at the time.

Britney did extremely well during her career and became a well known pop star, but in 2007 her personal life problems became public knowledge. During that year she released her fifth studio album called "Blackout", with such hits as "Gimme More" and "Piece of Me". Yet the same year Spears went into a drug rehabilitation facility for less than a day. The following night she shaved her head at a hair salon during her break down.

Spears admitted herself into other forms of treatment in the following weeks after her break down. The album "Blackout" went on to sell over three million copies.

In 2008, Britney went on her tour called "The Circus Starring Britney Spears", to promote her sixth album "Circus". The tour was one of the highest grossing global concert tours by 2009.

In March 2011, she released her seventh studio album called "Femme Fatale", which peaked at number one in the US, Canada and Australia. Its peak in the US tied Spears with Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson for the third most number ones achieved amongst female artists.

In 2012 she began to work on her eighth album called "Britney Jean", with the like of Will.i.am. The following year she featured as a vocalist on Miley Cyrus's song "SMS (Bangerz)".

Spears also renewed her contract with RCA and continues to record new music.

Live reviews

Britney Spears is a true performer; every aspect of her show is designed to entertain and delight her audience. She always has a varied set list that includes old favorites like 'Baby One More Time' and 'Oops' as well as new classics like 'Womanizer' and 'Perfume'.

The set(s) at a Britney Spears show are always over the top, and you can expect a lot of surprises. A single performance may include: rain, fire, smoke, moving set pieces and confetti.

For her Circus Tour (circa 2007), the audience was transported to a three-ring circus in every way! I loved the stunts and trapeze tricks!

Her Dream Within a Dream Tour (circa 2002) had eleborate set pieces and props, including a car!

The short-lived Onyx Hotel Tour was raunchy and sassy, much like the 22-year-old Britney at the time. It was cut short due to knee surgery.

Britney's Femme Fatale Tour (circa 2011) was action-packed, and ended with her literally flying across a screen of sparks wearing giant wings!

Her Piece of Me Tour (Vegas, 2013- ) is absolutely spectacular, with incredible sets, video, audio and TONS of surprises. It goes through five DIFFERENT phases, and ends in an epic dance number!

Britney Spears loves to perform and entertain. Every show also includes incredible dancers and absolutely stunning costumes. She often changes five or more times over the course of two hours ... each costume getting more and more elaborate as the show goes on. She will sparkle, enchant, and seduce the audience, depending o the song. Imagining what the costumes will be like is one of the fun parts of seeing her live - she always delivers and delights.

Finally, the Britney Army is the BEST group of fans a super star could ask for, and being surrounded by them at a live performance is awesome. We are kind, enthusiastic, and will dance the night away while singing along to our favorite Britney tune. Don't be afraid to say hello - we love meeting fellow Britney fans!

Britney Spears was and continues to be one of the biggest names in music of all time. She is the original pop princess, and watching her live is a once on a lifetime experience that is certainly not to be missed. Britney has a whole array of classics, the best of which are always performed at her shows. There isn’t a single person today who hasn’t heard of ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’, surely? Although Britney is not exactly known for her vocal skills, this barely matters when going to see her live. Her shows are a spectacular performance, with bright flashing lights and backing dancers galore. The costume changes are intense, with some outrageous outfits. And the set is incredible. For her Circus Tour, the entire stage was decorated like a circus with Britney as the ringleader: it was visually spectacular to behold. Classic hits such as ‘Toxic’, ‘Oops I Did it Again’, ‘Everytime’, ‘Circus’, ‘Womanizer’, ‘I’m a Slave 4 U’ and, of course ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’, were all performed and all received an incredible crowd reaction.

What can you really say about an icon like Britney Spears. The princess of pop has an imaginable amount of hits so her setlist could fill a show that lasted all night, yet she selects what she believes is her finest work and what will please her ever-loyal fan base the most. It is worth noting that Britney has not sung completely live in many years, this is just given fact so when you move past this and appreciate the experience that she gives to an audience, it becomes secondary.

The video interludes, the impressive dance routines, the light displays and the dazzling costumes all turn a Britney show from a simple gig into an experience. Then add into the equation mega-hits such as 'Gimme More', 'Piece of Me' and '...Baby One More Time' and you have a show that others will struggle to top.

Especially when it comes down the all out performance that is the finale of 'I Wanna Go' and 'Womanizer', the audience scream and sing in equal measure as this well trained pop star owns the stage in a way that only Britney can. A delight to watch and a master at work.

I love Britney Spears, so this may be a biased review, but I loved the show! From her first song, Work Bitch, to her last song, Till The World Ends, it was a great show. She changes outfits and scenes every couple songs, continuing to keep my attention for the whole show, even using a ring of fire for her performance of Circus. A couple of her most famous outfits we're on display in the entrance to the Axis theatre, which was fun.

I enjoyed hearing all of her songs and energy was great. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a great show in Las Vegas.

Goddess!!! What an incredible performer, she's still got it. I would forever see Britney live. I don't care if she has live vocals or not. She can dance her ass off and she looks amazing doing it! I am without words for the concert I went to last night.

I just went to go see Britney over the weekend. She was absolutely amazing! Definitely in my top 5 performers. She put on a very entertaining show and even performed with a surprise guest...Tinashe. Would totally recommend go seeing her!

Britney is lip-sync queen. This girl can´t sing and dance. I don´t know why she is famous.

But I am grateful, because I have seen it, and I think, who didn´t seen it, don´t believe it. It´s like watching DVD.

Novlina’s profile image

She didn’t really need to be there. Bad lip syncing. Awful dancing and generally pointless. I don’t understand how Britney is still relevant. She’s done well considering she has little talent

matt-buckeridge’s profile image

It was amazing. She keeps up with the dancers and looks great. The props on stage are so cool. I'm so glad I got to see her perform and can't wait to come back and watch the show again

Britney Spears Speaks Out About Whether or Not She'll Perform Again

"I'm having fun right now, I'm in a transition in my life, and I'm enjoying myself so, that's it," she said in a video.

britney spears

Ahead of her June 23 conservatorship hearing, Britney Spears is speaking out about if she'll ever grace the stage again.

"The [final] question is, am I ready to take the stage again? Am I gonna take the stage again? Will I ever take the stage again?" the singer said. "I have no idea. I'm having fun right now, I'm in a transition in my life, and I'm enjoying myself so, that's it."

Her caption read, "As @shaniatwain says best … LETS GO GIRLS !!!! It's time to answer more of your questions 🌸 💁🏼‍♀️🌹!!!!!! PS … I know it's WINE and DINE … I was antsy OK 😂🤷🏼‍♀️🤪 ???!!!"

Since the conclusion of her Piece of Me Las Vegas residency back in 2018, Spears has been laying low, out of the public view, and reportedly "taking time to be a normal person," per the BBC . She's also been navigating an ongoing legal battle concerning a decade-plus conservatorship enforced by her father, Jamie Spears, who, among a slew of other constraints, subjected Britney to "sealing procedures" that have restricted her from free and open communication with the public.

"Britney's conservatorship has attracted an unprecedented level of scrutiny from mainstream media and social media alike," according to a file reported in CBS News . "Far from being a conspiracy theory or a 'joke' as James reportedly told the media, in large part this scrutiny is a reasonable and even predictable result of James' aggressive use of the sealing procedure over the years to minimize the amount of meaningful information made available to the public."

Though Spears reassured many worried followers with another video on Instagram that she was nonetheless doing just fine under the circumstances of the conservatorship, sharing , "Yes, I'm totally fine—I'm extremely happy, I have a beautiful home, beautiful children," she reportedly also communicated to the court via her attorney, Samuel Ingham, that she is scared of her father and refuses to perform onstage while he remains part of the conservatorship.

A documentary about the events that led to Britney's conservatorship, Framing Britney Spears , released back in February, and a wave of support for the pop star from fans and fellow pop stars alike followed.

Her next conservatorship hearing will take place on June 23 in Los Angeles, during which she will address the court directly on the issue.

"The deal that her team put together has a huge base salary, and also gives her a percentage of ticket sales, merchandise and other things," the source said. "Britney has proven she can continuously sell out her shows after years in Vegas, and Britney’s team used that achievement as a bargaining tool for her new contract.”

Spears ended her hugely successful Piece of Me  residency at Planet Hollywood on New Year's Eve after a four-year run. However, in January, she announced that she was bringing her the   show  across North America and Europe. The tour ran from July 12 through Aug. 24.

Britney Spears says she’ll ‘probably never perform again’ after ‘trauma’

Singer says she was devastated she had no creative control over her music videos while involuntarily under conservatorship

Britney Spears fans hoping the pop star will perform live again, now she is free from an infamous conservatorship that governed her life for more than a decade, might not want to hold their breath.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, Spears declared herself “pretty traumatized” from her work onstage under the conservatorship and said she would “probably never perform again”, despite enjoying a career resurgence with her recent Elton John collaboration, Hold Me Closer .

The 40-year-old singer said she was devastated she had no creative control over her music videos while involuntarily under the conservatorship , which was overseen primarily by her father, Jamie Spears, from 2008 to 2021.

Spears also criticized photos former conservators took during performances and said she was uncomfortable with the number of dancers at her side throughout a four-year residency in Las Vegas.

“I’d rather … shoot photos of myself in studios over working with the most offensive people in my life,” Spears said. “I’m pretty traumatized for life and yes I’m pissed as fuck and no I probably won’t perform again just because I’m stubborn and I will make my point.”

Her post on Sunday concluded with the words: “Kiss my God damn motherfucking ass.”

The remarks were the first since her conservatorship ended in which Spears directly addressed whether she planned to resume live performance. She had previously discussed how she was probably through singing onstage.

Raised in Kentwood, Louisiana, about 90 miles north-west of New Orleans, Spears stormed to the top of the charts in the late 1990s and early 2000s with hits such as Oops! I Did It Again, Baby One More Time, Toxic and Gimme More.

But amid intense scrutiny of her personal relationships, she displayed erratic behavior in public and her father and his legal advisers placed her under a conservatorship that essentially prevented her from doing anything for herself.

Spears said the arrangement – among other things – limited her to drawing a weekly allowance of $2,000 during her Las Vegas residency, which earned more than $160m. She also couldn’t get married or manage her own birth control, she has said.

A judge terminated the conservatorship in November 2021, to the delight of fans who mounted the #FreeBritney movement online and sometimes in the streets.

Britney Spears 'grateful for each day' after conservatorship lifted – video

Spears has since married her long-term boyfriend, the actor Sam Asghari, and released the duet with Elton John. Hold Me Closer rocketed to the top of the streaming charts in more than 40 countries. A video was reportedly in the works. But Spears hasn’t performed live since a show in October 2018 for the US Grand Prix in Texas.

Her post Sunday also came after she made headlines with the release of a series of audio clips in which she discussed her estrangement from her two sons, aged 16 and 15, from a previous marriage.

One of the boys, Jayden, gave an interview to 60 Minutes Australia in which he said he didn’t attend his mother’s wedding because she “didn’t invite [the] whole family”.

Among those not invited were Jayden’s father, Kevin Federline, and his maternal grandfather, Jamie Spears.

Spears said of her sons: “Since they’ve been gone, I’ve honestly felt like a huge part of me has died.”

Spears returns in first concert tour in 5 years

Britney Spears comes to the Seattle area on April 9, bringing to the Tacoma Dome her "Circus" concert tour that started in New Orleans, in Spears' home state of Louisiana, back in March.

Share story

NEW ORLEANS — Dressed as a sexy ringmaster and directing a colorful cast that included jugglers, acrobats and martial arts dancers, Britney Spears delivered a tightly choreographed, if perfunctory performance, as she kicked off her first concert tour in five years on March 3.

The 27-year-old pop superstar’s “Circus” tour started in her home state of Louisiana at the New Orleans Arena, before a nearly sold-out crowd that cheered on their idol as she gyrated and slithered across the stage while singing some of her biggest hits, from the recent “Womanizer” to her first and now classic song, “Baby One More Time.”

The wild applause has been largely absent from Spears’ life since the last time she went on tour in 2004, as the singer endured a devastating downward spiral: Due largely to personal troubles, she went from one of pop music’s most profitable, in-demand entertainers to an out-of-control tabloid persona who seemed to be on a path to destruction.

But over the last year, that path has been reversed, as she’s embarked on a successful comeback that has seen her image, as well as her career, rehabilitated.

The “Circus” tour was another strong step in the right direction. Spears didn’t interact much with the crowd — the only thing she uttered to the audience was “Thank you, New Orleans” at the end of the nearly two-hour show — and appeared at times to be lip-syncing. But fans didn’t seem to care, screaming wildly at the first sight of Spears, who descended from the ceiling on hoops suspended by wires, wearing a short red and black ringmaster ensemble.

Spears started the show with the title track to her new CD, “Circus,” then went right into “Piece of Me,” which she performed largely from a cage, part of the elaborate, grandiose stage backdrops.

Acrobats twirled from suspended fabric as Spears sang and danced, showing off her toned body with flirty, seductive moves. She got frisky with two male dancers as she performed “Touch of My Hand” while sporting a blindfold.

When Spears slowed down the show for “Everytime,” the audience could be heard singing the lyrics — “every time I try to fly I fall, without my wings I feel so small” — along with her.

“We’re so happy she’s back,” said 16-year-old Justin Scarbrough of New Orleans, wearing a T-shirt he designed himself that bears Spears’ image and the words “I Support Britney Spears.”

In the past five years, Spears has gone through more tumult than many endure in a lifetime: She’s been married and divorced, had two kids, gone to rehab, gone through a custody battle, found herself briefly committed, and been so out of control that her father, Jamie Spears, was appointed by a court to oversee his daughters’ personal and professional affairs indefinitely.

But over the past year, Spears’ life and career has rebounded. Her “Circus” CD, released in December, has already sold more than a million copies, and she’s had two hits off the CD, the No. 1 “Womanizer” and the top five “Circus.”

The “Circus” tour, which takes Spears to 27 cities in the United States before heading to Europe in June, is the pop star’s biggest opportunity to connect with her still formidable fan base.

“That was awesome,” said 21-year-old Lauren Baudoin of Lafayette, La., after the show. Baudoin’s sister, 18-year-old Lindsey Baudoin, said she liked that there were entertainers between the songs.

“It kept going,” Lindsey Baudoin said. “It was nonstop.”

She’ll keep on dancin’ ( at home ) ’til the world ends.

Music is still Britney Spears’ “pride and joy,” but she won’t be hitting the road again anytime soon, a source tells Page Six.

“Britney has trauma from touring,” the insider tells us. “For so many years, she was handed grueling itineraries and made to perform — even before her conservatorship .”

The pop superstar’s “breaking point came in 2018,” according to the source, “when her Las Vegas residency was finally over but then her team decided to turn it into an international tour” with over 30 concerts across the US and Europe.

“She desperately needed a break after four years in Vegas and didn’t get one. And then they had the nerve to book a second Vegas residency right after,” our insider fumes.

Spears’ first Sin City outing, “Britney: Piece of Me,” grossed $137.7 million from 248 shows between 2013 and 2017.

However, the Grammy winner’s second residency, “Britney: Domination,” never made it to the stage , as her father, Jamie Spears, sent her to a mental health facility weeks before its scheduled 2019 launch date.

Two years later, Britney said in open court that her dad and managers “should be in jail” for playing “a huge role in punishing” her when she “said no” to performances.

A Los Angeles judge terminated the “Toxic” singer’s conservatorship in 2021, giving her control of her personal, medical and financial affairs for the first time in 13 years.

Since then, Britney has signed a $15 million deal for an upcoming memoir, married her longtime love , Sam Asghari, and released a duet with Elton John , “Hold Me Closer,” which became her first top 10 song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in nearly a decade.

“She still loves dancing and making music,” the source tells Page Six. “She has talked about recording again and has gotten plenty of offers, some of which she’s turned down , but it’s all about timing and picking the right projects. She’s savvy like that.”

The insider adds, “The beauty of Britney being free again is that she gets to call the shots for the first time in a very long time, and she’ll do it at her own pace.”

A rep for Britney did not respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

BRITNEY: PIECE OF ME DESCRIPTION

Oops! She did it again... and we are definitely not complaining.

Like Elvis Presley before her, Britney Spears has parlayed a Las Vegas show into a revitalized public image and career. And it's no surprise that Brit opens her show with the 2013 high-energy dance single "Work B*tch" considering that she is undoubtedly working it... and will continue to do so through February 2017.

With 14 dancers shaking their collective asses off, 24 songs (performed in part or full), plus high-end digital effects and a plethora of props (Giant tree! Wings! Levitating cage ball! Confetti!), Britney has resurrected the over-the-top pop star fans love and remember.

Ah yes, the fans. Don't expect a quietly respectful audience at this show. Hardcore fans will be singing and screaming along as Britney performs many of her hits, including "Oops!… I Did It Again," "…Baby One More Time," "Toxic," "Slave 4U" and "Circus" among many other favorites.

The Axis Theater is a massive, 4,500-seat showroom that was remodeled for "Britney: Pieces of Me" complete now with an extended catwalk-style stage that allows Britney and her dancers to get closer to the audience. VIP tables and booths have been placed around these for the über fans wanting the ultimate up-close experience and not to forget the general admission pit that is surrounded by the stage.... Britney can literally be at your fingertips.

Seats up close will offer amazing views of Britney's costumes, some which reference iconic looks from her performance history. Yes, a jewel encrusted bodysuit reminiscent of the "Toxic" video makes an appearance.

In one of the more visually stunning segments Britney performs "Everytime" suspended over the stage as a giant angel before revealing her sultry side in a black-strapped and feathered piece to perform "…Baby One More Time."

"Bad" Britney makes another appearance later, cracking a whip over a crawling audience member, which is usually a celebrity in attendance such as Mario Lopez, Lance Bass or Pauly D, during her performance of "Freakshow." Another inspired moment showcases a 20-foot jump off a tree during a jungle-themed, wet performance of "Toxic."

The show clocks in between 80 and 90 minutes depending on if you count the video montage lead-in and how long you and your fellow audience members dance in the aisle to final song "Till the World Ends."

Packed with exciting effects, signature dance moves, and extravagant sets, the only remaining question is, will you be a slave 4 Britney?

A Britney Spears Book Tour: No TV, No Podcasts, Lots of Instagram

The singer, who has not given a face-to-face interview since 2018, has avoided traditional public appearances for “The Woman in Me,” which is still finding audiences.

A young woman with blonde hair wearing a red dress appears in profile.

By Joe Coscarelli and Julia Jacobs

In the run-up to the release of his blockbuster autobiography earlier this year, Prince Harry sat down with “60 Minutes” — and “CBS Mornings,” “ABC News Live,” “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” and others. Paris Hilton did “The View” and spoke with the BBC. Kerry Washington appeared on NPR’s “Fresh Air” and “Good Morning America.” Arnold Schwarzenegger opted for Kelly Clarkson and Howard Stern.

But for Britney Spears, the endlessly sought after and speculated about pop star who released her memoir, “The Woman in Me,” this week, there was mostly Instagram.

To gin up excitement about one of the most anticipated celebrity memoirs of the year, there were prerelease excerpts in People magazine, but no face-to-face interviews, which Spears has avoided since 2018, when she was still in the conservatorship that strictly controlled her life and career. (In the book, Spears writes of mentioning the arrangement in a 2016 interview, only to have it edited out.)

Now legally cleared to do and say what she pleases, however, Spears has held back, essentially throwing out the playbook for promoting a celebrity tell-all. The singer and her team are instead letting the book do the talking, with its gossipy nuggets and condemnations of the 13-year conservatorship feeding a steady churn of press coverage and social media chatter.

Her reluctance to be interviewed, stemming in part from a distrust sowed by decades of insensitive coverage , does not seem to have affected early sales: The book reached No. 1 on Amazon’s best-seller list; complete sales data will not be available until next week. But the lack of any significant promotional or public appearances by Spears, 41, has been obvious to professionals in the worlds of publishing and public relations.

“This is completely out of the ordinary,” said Eleanor McManus, a former booking producer for CNN’s “Larry King Live” who now works as a crisis manager. McManus said she was watching TV on Monday morning to find out which shows would be teasing a conversation with Spears. “I was thinking, ‘Who got the first interview?’” she said, before realizing that the answer was “no one.”

“The only time you recommend not doing interviews is if you can’t control what the subject would say, or if what he or she would say would damage their brand,” she added.

But some experts suggest Spears’s robust social media following may be all she needs for a successful book launch. At a time when celebrity memoirs are booming, subjects may not need to engage with traditional media as they once did if they have a substantial audience of their own, said Madeleine Morel, an independent literary agent who represents ghostwriters.

“The whole thing is about the size of your platform,” Morel said. “Can you bring an audience to a book?”

Spears is indeed known for communicating these days almost exclusively through her free-associative and often cryptic social media posts. Her most significant commentary on “The Woman in Me” has come not in Vogue, with Oprah or even a cheeky appearance on “Saturday Night Live” but via social media, where she has shared messages about the book that were alternately grateful, scarred and conflicted to her more than 100 million followers across platforms.

It’s not like the traditional media was not interested. Spears said in a since-deleted voice message posted to Instagram last year that after her conservatorship was terminated in late 2021, she had been approached by all manner of outlets.

“I have offers to interviews with Oprah and so many people, lots and lots of money, but it’s insane,” she said. “I don’t want any of it.”

A representative for Spears declined to comment and the memoir’s publisher, Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, did not respond to requests for comment about their nontraditional strategy to secure promotion.

So far, Spears’s traditional media engagement has been limited to the excerpts in People magazine — including the bombshell that Spears had an abortion during her relationship with Justin Timberlake — accompanied by emailed quotes attributed to the singer and a cover photo, which captured Spears smiling on a beach in Tahiti, sourced to “Britney Brands” rather than a photographer for the magazine.

The publisher also helped to organize an international rerelease of the 2002 movie “Crossroads,” starring Spears. That rollout has featured interviews by its director, Tamra Davis, who has generated her own wave of news tidbits about Spears.

In Spears's own recent comments on the book, she has chided the media for focusing on her past, though the memoir is essentially a retelling of her life story.

“I don’t like the headlines I am reading … that’s exactly why I quit the business 4 years ago !!!,” she wrote on Instagram . “My motive for this book was not to harp on my past experiences which is what the press is doing and it’s dumb and silly !!! I have moved on since then !!!”

She went on to briefly deactivate her account, only to return soon after with a picture of a cake that said “See you in hell.” On the book’s release day, she shared a single promotional post reading: “My story. On my terms. At last.” (She later deleted the post from Instagram.)

Most celebrities with books to sell still combine more old-fashioned media appearances, like the “Today” show and the late-night circuit, with a dedicated social media strategy and newer, friendly outlets like the podcasts Armchair Expert and On Purpose With Jay Shetty , the lifecoach and influencer.

The actress Jada Pinkett Smith, who released a memoir this month, did all of the above, plus more. Her deluge of media appearances even became the subject of a joke on “S.N.L.”

“Sorry if I seem a little tired,” said the comedian Ego Nwodim, who played Pinkett Smith. “I’ve been on the ‘Today’ show 14 times in three days.”

The writer Neil Strauss, who has worked on books with Mötley Crüe, Marilyn Manson and Jenna Jameson, said that celebrities could run the risk of making themselves bigger than the book with overexposure. “Sometimes by talking about it, you can only hurt it,” he said, adding that Spears “seems like she has a lot of trauma around the media.”

In her memoir, Spears describes the press as having been unfairly focused on her body as a rising pop sensation and on her fitness as a mother during a series of public struggles in 2007 and 2008 that ultimately led to her father, James P. Spears, being granted control of her personal life and finances.

She wrote that she felt exploited in 2003, when her father and her management organized an interview with Diane Sawyer following her breakup with Timberlake. “It was completely humiliating,” Spears writes. “I wasn’t told what the questions would be ahead of time, and it turned out they were 100 percent embarrassing.”

Strauss, the celebrity collaborator, said, “She’s just analyzed and scrutinized beyond the level that any human should have to be.” Still, he acknowledged, echoing others in the industry, it was “highly unusual” for someone of Spears’s stature to do no interviews. Even Bob Dylan, a notorious media antagonist for most of his career, promoted his memoir in 2004.

Paul Bogaards, a veteran book publicist who has led campaigns for best-selling memoirs by Bill Clinton and Andre Agassi, said that the power of a celebrity speaking publicly about their book tends to be greater than the media mining it for a news story.

“Once they’re out there in the world talking about their book, it becomes a 24-7 coverage-palooza,” Bogaards said, adding that most publishers required contractual agreements about promotion. “You want them to be visible in a significant way,” he added. “It’s hard to defend taking on a multimillion dollar advance in the absence of those kinds of agreements.” (Published figures put the price tag for Spears’s memoir, which was announced last year, between $12.5 million and $15 million .)

Another major selling point for celebrity memoirs tends to be the subject’s own voice on the audiobook edition, but in this case, Spears has largely opted out as well. In a short introduction to the audiobook version of “The Woman in Me,” Spears said she had chosen to read only a short snippet of her 275-page book because the process of reliving its contents had been “heart-wrenching.” Apart from a minute and a half, the rest of the book’s five-plus hours is read by the actress Michelle Williams.

Spears’s most loyal fans see no issue in her letting the work speak for itself. For years, the mantra for many supporters has been “leave Britney alone,” especially after the singer upbraided fans earlier this year for calling the police with concerns about her well-being when she temporarily deactivated her Instagram account. She voiced her objections again last month when another emergency call was made in response to a video of her dancing with what appeared to be kitchen knives. (Spears said they were props.)

“A lot of the sentiment in the book are these instances where she was forced to do things against her will,” said Jordan Miller, the founder of the Spears fan site BreatheHeavy.com, which helped start the “Free Britney” campaign that brought more public attention to conservatorship.

“It’s cool that she’s going in the opposite direction of what the status quo is in terms of conventional promotion,” he added. “It’s like, ‘Here are my words, you can read these. Here are the photos that I want you to see. I’m going to have approval of all of this.’ In the context of everything that’s gone on, that is super refreshing.”

But a celebrity memoir with an eye-popping purchase price may need to reach more than just superfans in order to be seen as a phenomenon worth its investment, experts said.

“It’s going to be a major release, but I think that they could be doing more to make it a real moment that sticks around,” said Anthony Bozza, an author who has written books with Slash, Tracy Morgan and Artie Lange.

If not, he added, “You’re just going to be a blip in the cycle.”

Britney Spears’ Team Is ‘Trying to Get Her Excited’ About Music as She Says She’ll ‘Never Return’

  • By Tomás Mier

Rumors have been swirling about a musical comeback from Britney Spears in recent days, but in a new Instagram post Wednesday, the singer shut them down saying she’ll “never return to the industry.”

Minutes before her post, however, a source close to the Spears project-in-the-works tells Rolling Stone that the singer’s team was preparing new music to get the singer to return to the studio, but that she had not yet been “actively in recording.”

“Right now, management and A&R are trying to get her excited for the music,” the source says. “As of right now, she’s not actively in recording, but they’re getting [songs] done to present to her.

“Nothing is cemented or in stone,” the source adds.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Maria River Red (@britneyspears)

”The hype around this is that everyone wants her to make music again, but I don’t know if she’s there yet,” the source says, adding that both pop ballads and uptempo songs had been prepared to present to the singer.

In a fiery Instagram post Wednesday, Spears said much of the news surrounding new music “is trash,” and added that she had “written over 20 songs for other people” in the past two years, opting instead to ghostwrite.

“They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album … I will never return to the music industry !!!” she wrote. “When I write, I write for fun or I write for other people !!! For those of you who have read my book, there’s loads that you don’t know about me.”

Spears’ new post aligns with what she wrote in her memoir, The Woman in Me . “Pushing forward in my music career is not my focus at the moment,” she said. “It’s time for me not to be someone who other people want; it’s time to actually find myself.”

Though many Spears stans have shared their excitement about the prospect of new music in recent days, some told Rolling Stone last year they will respect whatever the singer chooses to do next.

“Any time there’s no clear-cut answer as to what’s going on with Britney, there’s a level of speculation,” said Jordan Miller, who runs fan site BreatheHeavy.com, in August following Spears’ split from husband Sam Asghari. “There’s an element of the unknown that makes Britney mysterious to everyone.”

Britney Spears Explains Why She ‘Probably’ Won’t Perform Again In Post Blasting Touring Conditions

She wasn't happy with a lot of things that happened.

britney spears on x-factor

Britney Spears currently has a hit alongside pop legend Elton John , but that doesn’t mean she’s excited about getting back on the road and performing. In fact, according to a new social media post, the singer is “probably” done performing entirely.

Spears made the admission during a larger social media post in which she discussed some of her frustrations with past tours and the people she was forced to work with.  The experience left her "pretty traumatized for life." You can read an excerpt below...

I’m pretty traumatized for life and yes I’m pissed as fuck and no I won’t probably perform again just because I’m stubborn and I will make my point

A lot of Spears' specific criticisms seem to come down to a lack of say in the decisions made when she performed. She was apparently unhappy with many of the dancers she was asked to perform with. She felt they were specifically chosen because they were smaller than her. In addition, she was apparently always frustrated about not having more of a say in the pictures taken and which ones were chosen for publicity. That's why she's so proactive in taking her own photos now. You can read the full Instagram post below…

A post shared by Channel 8 (@britneyspears) A photo posted by on

Britney Spears’ intentions to “probably” not perform again aren’t coming out of nowhere. The singer’s former manager, Larry Rudolph, said back in 2021 that she told him she wanted to retire, and many fans have wondered whether she’d ever do another full tour. The questions have gotten a little louder with the end of her conservatorship and now her hit with Elton John , but if Spears isn’t interested in performing again, then she’s not interested in performing again. The history of music is filled with a lot of singers and bands who continued to play music but rarely performed any of it in public.

Since the much publicized end of her conservatorship, Spears has primarily used social media to communicate with fans. Some of the posts have been updates and musings about her daily life, while others have focused on calling out those she feels wronged her during the period in which she wasn't allowed to speak freely. Her parents and sometimes sister have been the most common targets , but she has also been open more recently about some of the parenting struggles she has had, as well as issues with her ex-husband Kevin Federline .

Britney Spears is, of course, most famous for singing, but she's also done acting and put in plenty of media appearances. She was a judge on the US version of X-Factor alongside Simon Cowell . It's unclear whether the pop legend is also going to avoid those opportunities, but if she does, she should know many of her fans will be ready to watch if she ever changes her mind.

Will Britney Spears Ever Tour Again? (Her Biggest Tour Made Over $130 Million)

If Britney Spears returned to touring, fans would be thrilled, and she'd stand to make many millions.

When Britney Spears first released her hit single ' Hit Me Baby One More Time ', she instantly stole the hearts of many around the world. Almost overnight, she became an instant pop success, being dubbed the 'princess of pop' within the music industry. Since her initial rise to fame, she went on to achieve great success, with four number-one singles on the US Billboard Hot 100 and six number-one albums on the Billboard 200 . Her huge success has allowed the Baby One More Time singer to tour around the world, jumping around the globe like whack-a-mole to perform for millions of fans.

However, Britney has also undergone years of hardship due to the conservatorship that her father imposed on her. While it was mostly shielded from the public eye, fans began to sense that something was wrong as time passed, with more and more clues being left in Britney's trail. Despite enduring such hardship behind the scenes, Britney powered on, touring around the world for her adoring fans. Given what we know now, will the singer ever tour again?

Britney's Biggest Tour Made $131.8 Million

Since her rise to fame, Britney Spears has embarked on a total of ten tours, as well as having her own Las Vegas residency. While they were all largely successful in their own right, which tour actually made her the most money?

Out of all of her tours, it turns out that Britney's Circus tour grossed the most revenue. In total, the tour grossed $131.8 million , and it was deemed a huge commercial success. It was so successful in fact, that it became one of the highest-grossing tours of the decade.

The tour began in March 2009, and ended in November the same year, spanning a total of 97 shows overall in support of her sixth studio album, Circus . The tour visited North America, Europe, and Australia, with 1.5 million attendees in total. Her sixth album was dubbed as her 'comeback' album, after a turbulent yet commercially successful period during her ' Blackout ' era.

While it was her seventh world tour, it is safe to say that it was certainly a raging success. Her second most successful tour was her 'Dream Within a Dream' tour, which took place between 2001 and 2002, visiting both North America and Asia. The tour grossed a total of $80,580,000 US dollars across a total of 69 shows, wowing both audiences and the public.

How Does Britney Feel About Returning To Touring?

While Britney Spears has become well-known for being a born performer, it turns out brewing negative sentiments have been plaguing the singer for years. Despite having a long string of successful tours under her belt, the singer revealed in 2021 how she really feels about touring.

Opening up to Instagram , the Gimmie More singer revealed that she found her first three years on tour 'were great', hinting that it was a period of her touring life that she somewhat enjoyed. However, after years on the road, it seems that the impact of constant touring has finally taken its toll.

In the same post, Britney continued by stating how much she 'hated' her old, laborious touring schedule, telling fans that she thinks 'she doesn't even want to do it again'. Yikes.

“I know I’m not playing in huge arenas with my loud band anymore but I will be honest and say life on the road is hard !!! After those three tours and the pace I was going … I don’t think I ever want to do it again !!! I hated it !!! ”

Between 1999 and 2018, Britney headlined a total of ten tours, including her very own Las Vegas residency in 2013. So, while it seems the much-loved singer thoroughly enjoyed touring throughout the debut of her career, it seems the heavy and intense touring schedule has now taken its toll on her.

Will Britney Spears Ever Tour Again?

Britney's last tour took place over four years ago in 2018, sparking hope for fans that she may one day take the reins and get back into performing once again. However, rewinding to 2020, Britney revealed her real feelings in regard to touring, with the news coming as a huge disappointment to some fans.

While some were disappointed, others were generally more understanding, armed with the knowledge that the Piece Of Me singer was going through a hard time.

In official court documents, Britney had described that she had 'no desire to perform' and felt strongly against it at the time. This probably comes as no surprise, due to the strenuous amount of touring that she has done over the span of her career, in addition to dealing with financial stressors in relation to her conservatorship.

After undergoing a long and hard battle with her conservatorship, as well as expressing her negative sentiments toward her touring schedule, it has yet to be seen whether the singer is even considering jumping back onto the stage at all.

Britney Spears Resorts World Las Vegas

Everyone knows Resorts World loves Britney after they famously displayed their love for the pop star in glowing LED lights. But will there be another Britney Spears Resorts World Las Vegas residency?

Planet Hollywood was home to the Piece of me Show, which started six years after Britney’s split with her ex-husband Kevin Federline, the father of her kids.

After escaping her troubles of the last few years, there are many rumors flying about as to whether or not the queen of pop is coming back to Las Vegas, creating a buzz around the singer.

But is it true?

Does Britney Love Resorts World?

Will there be a Britney Spears Resorts World Las Vegas Residency

The truth is, at the moment, no one knows if Spears will ever come back to Vegas – but if she did, she would fill the arena night after night. And rumor has it, Britney badly wants to be performing in Sin City again.

In fact, she had one of the most financially successful residencies that Las Vegas has ever seen – selling almost a million tickets for her Piece of Me residency at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino.

Resorts World Las Vegas has expressed on multiple occasions their desire to bring back Britney’s residency, and this time at the Resorts World Complex.

While there is no confirmed new residency for the singer in Vegas, the superstar headline is thought to have been in the discussion last year about finally coming back to the Vegas Stage.

The pop icon has vacationed at Resorts World Las Vegas on multiple occasions, with the resort famously projecting “Resorts World Loves Britney” on a 100,000-square-foot screen for her second visit.

And it’s not just the resort who Love Britney Spears – Britney loves them back. The pop star, her boyfriend Sam Asghari (now husband), and notably her agent took a weekend trip to Resorts World and stayed in their very own “palace” – complete with an entertainment room, private backyard, private pool, three bedrooms, and its own game room.

The superstar headliner and her fiancé Sam Asghari even thanked Resorts World Vegas in an Instagram on Britney’s page with the caption :

“Devil in disguise !!! Nights in Vegas , Thank you, Cade and @resortsworldlv, for inviting me 🥹 !!!! Or wait … did I invite myself ??? Either way, thanks for showing me such a good time !!!” in between a playful video and other photos from around the resort.

With the Resort and Britney Spears having a good relationship and the famous singer always having such a good time at the resort with “Devil in Disguise” fiancé Sam Asghari – who she met in 2016 while making a music video – is it finally time the Las Vegas Strip got their biggest star back?

Past Las Vegas Residency

Britney Spears’ Vegas Residency

Britney Spears’ Vegas Residency was one of the best the world has ever seen and one of Vegas’ most successful shows, with fans from all over the world taking weekend trips into the city just to see their favorite star.

The Piece of Me Show ran between 2013 and 2017, performing almost every night for four years solid. She has since spoken about how difficult she found the routine and nightly performances – but the “Hit Me, Baby, One More Time” singer has expressed how much she enjoyed the fan interaction, hinting it is something she might like to do again.

Resorts World Theatre

Resort World Theatre seating chart

Stars like Celine Dion , Carrie Underwood, and Katy Perry have all headlined Resorts World’s Theatre – often considered Sin City’s best modern theatre – making it a stage ready for great female artists like the Pop Princess herself!

How much does it cost to see Britney Spears in Las Vegas?

When Spears was at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino for the first time, tickets to see the singer started at $150, with the best seats selling for over $200. If Britney Spears were to come back and perform in Resorts World, tickets are expected to be more or less the same as the first time.

Is Britney Spears still appearing in Las Vegas?

Currently, Britney Spears is no longer performing in Las Vegas, although she lives locally and is often seen in and around the Las Vegas Strip. There are rumors that Spears could be in talks with Resorts World about a potential residency after her recent trip.

Did Britney Spears "blow off" Madonna's world tour invite?

Los Angeles, California - Did Britney Spears back out of Madonna 's invitation to join the latter's Celebration tour ?

On Wednesday, Life & Style claimed that the 42-year-old Womanizer singer turned down Madonna's request to join her on stage for the Vogue artist's current concert run .

Yet there isn't anything "toxic" going on between the singers, as an insider dished that Madonna "understands" why Britney opted out of the invite.

"It's hard to be mad with Britney after all she's been through," the source said, possibly alluding to the Circus performer's divorce from Sam Ashgari and her controversial 13-year conservatorship .

The insider added that Madonna saw the "potential" for significant press coverage if the singer recreated their iconic VMAs kiss , but it's reportedly "not the end of the world if it doesn't happen."

The Take A Bow crooner has been very supportive of Britney and was among the few stars at Britney and Sam 's private nuptials in 2022.

Still, the Scream & Shout singer continues to worry fans with her cryptic posts and odd behavior .

In a copy of the memoir obtained by Billboard , after describing her abortion experience, Spears added that she still has love for her ex-boyfriend, who she began dating in 1999 until their split in 2002. “After that, I was messed up for a while, especially because I still love Justin so much,” she writes. “It was insane how much I loved him, and for me, it was unfortunate.”

In the earlier excerpt published by People , Spears said that the pregnancy was a “surprise,” even thought she always “expected” to start a family with Timberlake. “But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young,” she wrote, adding, “To this day, it’s one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life.”

Justin Timberlake Reportedly Fearful Britney Spears Fans Will Hound His Tour

The former *N Sync member doesn't think he'll be able to avoid the backlash.

By Andrew Roberts - April 7, 2024 06:22 pm EDT

Justin Timberlake is set to launch his first U.S. tour in half a decade later in April, but he reportedly is more worried about dealing with Britney Spears ' fans on the road. According to InTouch Weekly , Timberlake is still feeling the effects of Spears' revelations in her memoir, including labeling him a "cheater" and that he convinced her to get an abortion after Spears became pregnant.

"Justin's already faced a big backlash on social media and a blow to the nice guy reputation he's always tried to nurture," a source tells the outlet. "Now he's going to put himself out there for public scrutiny, and he's really worried this tour could turn into a disaster!"

Timberlake reportedly wants the situation to "just go away," but it doesn't seem that way. His latest single titled "Selfish" led to Spears' fans driving a 13-year-old song from the singer of the same name.

Spears even apologized for some of the claims about Timberlake in her memoir, but soon retracted that after Timberlake made comments during a New York performance in February. "I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize to absolutely fucking nobody," Timberlake said during the one-night show.

"Someone told me someone was talking shit about me on the streets !!! Do you want to bring it to the court or will you go home crying to your mom like you did last time ??? I'm not sorry !!!," Spears wrote after the video of Timberlake went viral.

"Britney's revelations boxed Justin into a corner," the source tells InTouch. "He's really afraid he's going to be hounded by her fans on this tour."
