To add to what Tecalli has said, it is almost certain that Gate 1 contracts out the on-ground arrangements to Vietnamese companies, and that those companies would provide a more authentic (and better value for money) experience if freed from the constraints of what is dictated by an overseas company.

Ah yes PLTWhitehall, you may have been happy about them, but as two extremely knowledgeable long term posters here have so rightfully pointed out; you are paying through the nose for your happiness.

And as they have also pointed out, Gate 1 do contract out their tours to local Vietnamese companies that would be extremely happy to organize an even better experience for you at a fraction of the cost you paid.

Jammy use the search facility at the top of the page if you want the real deal local agents. Anyone can buy a high street tour from their home town agent but you will not experience what the locals can offer in terms of cost and experience. Naturally there will be some fakes in the search so try to avoid posts that have poor english expression, small amount of posts, completely over the top praise, and things like a free bottle of water !

If things go wrong with a tour and the agent is back in your home town you can give them a whack around the ears when you get back, but they will not save your holiday. A local agent will be able to fix it on the spot.

Gate 1 cannot hope to give a better price or service for their tours compared to Vietnamese Agents, after all they only use the same agents on the ground in VN and whack on a commission which is passed on to the tourist. These pages are full of comparison stories that bear out the fact that a tour organised by a VN agent is far superior.

It is not unusual on TA to see a tout for an agent have his post removed and replaced by a first time poster with no shown profile almost immediately.

It's up to readers of this forum to make judgements about which practices are legitimate practices.
