Millington Travel to join Worldchoice

Independent Leicester-based travel agency Millington Travel is to join Worldchoice from rival consortium Elite Travel Group. The firm, which currently operates nine stores and will open a tenth before Christmas, will officially join The Travel Network Group owned consortium on October 1. Millington Travel, which was established in 1972, is owned by managing director Nigel Armitage and fellow director Nick Bland and has its head office in Leicester. It has been a member of Elite, which is now affiliated with the Advantage  Travel Partnership, for 30 years and employs 60 staff in both corporate and leisure roles. Armitage said: “Millington is embarking on a new phase in its development and we believe The Travel Network Group will be the perfect partner to support our growth. “It was apparent very early on that we are like-minded organisations and we will be a great fit both strategically and culturally. “With a focused growth strategy we felt we needed a partner who would give us access to great technology and marketing, and one who could bring fresh ideas and opportunities.” Gary Lewis, chief executive of The Travel Network Group, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Nigel and Nick and their team at Millington Travel to our Group.  “They have built a very strong and robust business in and around Leicestershire and believe there is the opportunity to take their expertise to other locations around the East Midlands.” Lewis said the addition of Millington boosts the group’s network in the Leicestershire & East Midlands area and claimed its addition will take total membership to 920. “We have real momentum in recruiting new members because our current members are talking so positively about us and how we are delivering for each of them.  “In the last 18 months we have attracted four major players to our group and our recruitment pipeline has never been so strong. “This demonstrates that independent travel businesses believe we have the right strategy, beliefs and team in place to help them further grow and develop,” Lewis added.

Our very own Phil Van Roose visits The Maldives for the first time

Whilst selling the Maldives for many years, based primarily on customer feedback, training sessions and so on, it was a great experience to be able to finally visit the place on an educational trip. After a 10 hour direct flight from Heathrow, arriving in the capital Male was pretty straight forward. With a minimum of fuss, we were soon ready for transfer to our first island by a spectacular sea-plane ride.

The Maldives are a chain of 26 coral atolls consisting of around 1200 islands. Of these, only 200 are inhabited and around 150 of these are holiday resorts. Each of these islands is a self contained resort ranging from natural, tropically simple and informal to sharp, contemporary luxury. Some are small enough to walk around in 10 minutes, others are larger with a range of facilities and several bars and  restaurants.

After visiting 11 islands in 5 days, you might think they would all blend into one another, but they are all very different from each other, which is difficult to appreciate until actually visited. There’s nothing quite like first hand experience to really understand and get to know a place. I feel I now have a wealth of knowledge about all the islands and can now enthusiastically recommend them. Have you visited The Maldives recently? Share your experience with us!
