The 15 best high school horror movies, from Scream to Jennifer’s Body

Getting through class can be murder

horror school trip

The high school experience is different for everyone. For some, it’s heaven on earth, a time to look back on fondly with a wistful smile. For others? A hellish experience that you’d rather leave in the past, thanks. Those four hormone-charged years are rife with teenage kicks, no matter where you are in the social rankings, making them the *perfect* backdrop for some of the best high school horror movies.

Some of cinema’s most scream-filled, blood-soaked scarefests take place on campus. It’s easy to see why. At a time when everyone’s going through a tonne of changes, the terror of being turned down for a date, or flunking tests, is nothing when you’ve got a killer on your hands. Or a monster. Or a supernatural force of evil. Or - well, you get the idea. That’s what makes high school a killer backdrop for the macabre; who knows what’s lurking down the corridors, hiding in the classrooms, or patiently waiting for you in the basement? Think you can handle that? Then read on for our rundown of the best high school horror movies.

15. Tragedy Girls (2017)

horror school trip

How many times have you said, “I would kill to have that many followers?” For the two high schoolers at the heart of Tragedy Girls, that sentiment is taken literally. McKayla and Sadie are a couple of teen bloggers desperate to score more followers. Their plan? Catch local serial killer Lowell Orson Lehmann. While their plan to trap him succeeds,  Lehmann doesn’t want to co-operate and help them with their mission for social media dominance, leaving them no choice – they hold him captive and continue the murder spree themselves.

That’s... one way to increase your follower count. This black comedy is firmly a product of our social media-obsessed times; a Heathers-inspired slasher that drips with blood and razor-sharp witticisms. No-one at school is safe, with exes, friends, and enemies all in the girls’ sights. Tragedy Girls doesn’t merely acknowledge existing horror tropes with a cheeky wink. It bludgeons them. Slices them. Hangs them.

14. Dance of the Dead (2008)

horror school trip

Bodies shuffling across the dancefloor, glazed expressions, a curious lack of direction… ah, who doesn’t love a good high school prom? The undead certainly dig ‘em in this 2008 zombie indie that’s since earned its cult stripes. Paying respect to the likes of splattergore daddy Return of the Living Dead, Dance of the Dead dishes out blood, guts, and chuckles with ingenuity and abandon when a small town finds itself overrun by a horde of flesh-eaters.

The outbreak riffs on zombie lore of old – a nuclear power plant leakage seeps into the ground – and nestles it firmly in the late ‘00s. These zombies are a curious mix of sprinters and amblers, themselves almost mirroring the different cliques that form the heart of the movie’s teen survivors. The gang who rally together to stop the zombies from reaching the prom are the kids who couldn’t score dates. It’s a sweet, funny, gory low-budget horror that packs in some unique, ahem, educational moments. Try keeping your dinner down after a vile living dead tryst in a high school bathroom, along with a frenetic graveyard escape sequence.

13. Prom Night (1980)

horror school trip

As a result of Halloween’s box office success, producers were eager to cash in on more holiday-themed slashers. And while the prom isn’t a national holiday, it’s a time of year firmly rooted in an annual tradition. Oh and boy oh boy, do slasher villains love themselves a recurring event to use for motivation! Some years after a young girl’s accidental death, a killer stalks the teenagers responsible. The anniversary of which just so happens to land on prom night.

Scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis – who, oddly enough, had to audition for the lead – stars as Kim, a calm, responsible high schooler at the center of a group of friends. What she doesn’t know is that they are the kids responsible for her younger sister’s death. Over the course of the movie, her pals are stalked and slashed all over school in a series of revenge killings. While Prom Night doesn’t pile on the gore, its tension builds nicely over the run time, making it have all the more impact when its cast of likeble teens are offed.

12. Jennifer’s Body (2009)

horror school trip

Hot on the heels of her Oscar win for penning the verbose Juno script, Diablo Cody followed it up with Jennifer’s Body. A caustic and savage 2009 horror, pinned down by Cody’s trademark hyper-stylized dialogue, and directed by the brilliant Karyn Kusama, it under-performed massively at the time of release. Rocking a poor Rotten Tomatoes score, it didn’t seem to land quite right. The intervening decade has been kind to this feminist high school horror, where it has since found a cult following. And quite rightly so.

Megan Fox delights as the beautiful popular girl Jennifer Check who is inseparable from her best pal, the nerdy Anita "Needy", played by Amanda Seyfried. Targeted by a bunch of drunken meatheads, Jennifer undergoes somewhat of a transformation when they sacrifice her to a demon. She doesn’t die. Instead, she’s resurrected, imbued with new power, a taste for teenage boy flesh, and a zero-tolerance policy for rapists and murderers.

11. The Faculty (1998)

horror school trip

Post-Scream, screenwriter Kevin Williamson turned his clever pen to another genre: science fiction. The Faculty is a loose remake of Invasion of the Bodysnatchers, and yet, manages to throw in its own twists to the lore along the way. A cast of then-up-and-comers sells the traditional teen movie tropes; good-looking bitch, dumb jock, quirky rebel, goth gay girl, and subverts them as they gang together in figuring out what the hell is happening to their teachers.

It starts as it means to go on by embracing one of Williamson’s signature moves - an unsettling opening sequence. The first ten or so minutes drip with blood and some creepy-as-hell performances from its A-list faculty cast that includes Carrie’s mom Piper Laurie, and the T-1000 himself Robert Patrick. Watch for a huge homage to The Thing's blood test scene.

10. The Craft (1996)

horror school trip

Skipping school. Shoplifting. Talking cheeky to bus drivers. When a group of teenage girls decides to dabble with a spot of witchcraft, what else can go wrong? Turns out, quite a lot. Part of the ‘90s teen horror explosion, The Craft tells the story of what happens when outsiders accrue great power. It’s a little like a superhero movie except without spandex. Nancy, Bonnie, and Rochelle, three teens whose high school experience isn’t exactly a blast, take up witchcraft as an after-school activity. The trio rope in new girl Sarah, making their coven complete, and begin experimenting.

High school can be hard enough without bullies nitpicking at you, so what do these girls do now they’re fully charged? They harness their skills to inflict revenge on anyone they feel like. It’s all fun and games until someone dies. There’s nothing more horrific than walking down the school corridor wondering if you’re about to have a spell cast on you by a disgruntled classmate, amirite?

9. Battle Royale (2000)

horror school trip

Oh, you think your high school experience was bad? You ain’t seen nothing yet. Coming up on its 20th anniversary, Battle Royale makes any playground shenanigans you were subjected to look positively delightful. Set in a future Japan, where the government is eager to wield greater control over its rebellious students, every year one class is picked in a lottery and whisked away for what they believe to be a school trip.

When they awake – they’re all drugged, see – they each have detonators around their necks. It’s all part of the Battle Royale, a premise which, to be honest, The Hunger Games absolutely stole. The object of the game? To survive. But only one will. Each class member receives a bag which may have a weapon in it. Blood-soaked and gruesome – not like Katniss’ PG-13 adventure – this is a terrific reminder that you should really behave in class.

8. Halloween: H20 (1998)

horror school trip

The post-Scream landscape changed the face of horror. Luckily, it didn’t change it too much. Michael Myers, the mask-wearing lunatic, still remained a frightful figure. Enough so to warrant a reboot. Halloween: H20 picks up from Haddonfield, relocating to a private California school where Laurie Strode – now going by the name Keri Tate – teaches and her son, John, attends. With most of the student body away on a trip, the school remains empty for the weekend leaving only a smattering of folks behind for Michael to stalk.

Scream scribe Kevin Williamson penned the story for this underrated reboot, that absolutely nails what made the original Halloween so creepy: set-pieces. Choosing to have Michael run rampant in a boarding school is a stroke of genius. Not only do we get corridors with billowing curtains, casting endless shadows, we get a bonkers sequence featuring a dumbwaiter in the school kitchen that is tense . Easily the best Halloween sequel (come at me!)

7. The Loved Ones (2009)

horror school trip

Ever felt bad after turning someone down for a date? That dreaded guilt, resting in your stomach, is a mere hint of the repercussions in store for Brent. The Loved Ones doesn’t dilly-dally with consequences – it dishes them out brutally. When he declines a date with a girl from school, she decides that instead of having an angry wank about it like a normal person, she’d quite like to take him hostage and torture him.

This Australian torture pic is the debut of filmmaker Sean Byrne, who never shies away from the abject terror he submits poor Brent to. Interestingly enough, the decision to make the killer the most unique character in the whole damn school brings a whole new level of tension to the proceedings. Just why is she so unhinged? Why the hell is her father her partner-in-crime? It’s certainly one thing to be sad about being turned down to prom, it’s quite another to drill a hole in the guy’s skull to teach him a lesson.

6. All Cheerleaders Die (2013)

horror school trip

No matter your own experiences with cheerleaders, no rallying youngster deserves the fate that befalls this crew. The movie opens as Maddy is filming a video diary of her friend Alexis, the head cheerleader, go about her day. Things proceed as expected until she attempts a particularly tricky move that kills her. If that wasn’t bad enough, the rest of the squad also perish when their car is driven off the road by the thuggish football team captain.

From that point onward, All Cheerleaders Die ventures down a number of unusual paths, twisting into a supernatural resurrection comedy that’s gory and gruesome. It shares more than a few flecks of DNA with the likes of Jennifer’s Body – in its attempts to seek retribution for its cheerleaders – and doesn’t stop with the surprises, right up to its final frame.

5. The Blackcoat’s Daughter (2015)

horror school trip

No doubt, in years to come, The Blackcoat’s Daughter will spring up on best horror movie lists. On the surface, it looks like it adheres to your standard slasher format: two girls all alone at a Catholic school over the weekend. Kat (Kiernan Shipka), an oddly-quiet freshman, is left under the watchful guise of senior Rose (Lucy Boynton), a senior desperate to sneak off to her boyfriend. So when’s the masked killer gonna arrive, right? Well, never. This isn’t a brash, over-the-top stalk n’ hack pic, but a slow-burn chiller.

Director Oz Perkins does a great job of making the most mundane school activities heavy with mood. Every scene lies thick with that creeping feeling something isn’t right (Lucy Boynton you just don’t know what. Might have something to do with the fact that the nuns in charge are actually Satanists.

4. Cherry Falls (2000)

horror school trip

Cherry Falls is hardly subtle. From its name, to its killer, to its derivative backstory. It doesn’t clamber to be original or clever, but that doesn’t matter a jot because it’s one of the best high school horror movies that will have you shrieking and laughing along with every deranged twist.

Brittany Murphy stars as a teenage girl whose sheriff dad (a hammier-than-gammon Michael Biehn) keeps a close eye on her. With good reason too: a masked killer begins offing high schoolers, and it soon transpires that those kids? All virgins. Before long, they are plotting gloriously-trashy parties (“Pop your cherry ball!”) in an attempt to stave off the killer, while the adults sweat bullets about having to deal with a town of teens banging each other silly.

3. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

horror school trip

There’s nothing worse than nodding off during English class, as your teacher (horror staple Lin Shaye, folks) drones on and on about Shakespeare… only to wake to the sight of your best friend’s corpse bumbling down the corridor in a bloodied body bag, is there? When A Nightmare on Elm Street burst onto the ‘80s slasher scene, its raspy-voiced villain Freddy Krueger brought this unique brand of torment to the high schoolers of Springwood.

Worse than any dreaded test or social faux-pas is a monster who’ll creep into your nightmares to kill you. Wes Craven's iconic slasher takes the one place on Earth you're meant to be safest – fast asleep – and twists it into a place to be feared by inventing a killer who attacks teenagers in their dreams. That’s certainly one way to make you stay awake and study.

2. Carrie (1976)

horror school trip

Imagine the worst prom night experience. Then add in a bucket of pig’s blood, a soul-destroying taunt from the entire school, and to cap it all off: a fiery blaze. That’s a mere drop in the bucket (ahem) for what poor Carrie White endures on what’s supposed to be the happiest night of her life. This classic DePalma horror embraces the real terror of being a teenage girl. On the cusp of womanhood, Carrie’s first period telegraphs the onset of another blessing: the power of telekinesis.

Arguably the finest Stephen King adaptation, Carrie remains a fraught, tense experience. Sure, while some of the music montages are a tad dated, one factor that DePalma meshes deep into the film’s marrow is the brutal, relentless torment that high school girls are subjected to. The big difference for Carrie is that she finally gets the upper, albeit bloody, hand.

1. Scream (1996)

horror school trip

Kevin Williamson wrote what was then titled Scary Movie after calling a buddy to keep him company while he was housesitting in the middle of nowhere. His pal obliged, and the pair quizzed one another on horror film trivia to keep the screenwriter alert. That's what inspired the first kernel for Wes Craven's post-modern scarefest.

Along with the disposable teens, typical horror tropes suffer the chop here too. Sure, one blonde might get slain, but another blonde knows better. The small group of Woodsboro high schoolers, stalked in the bathrooms, the football fields, the principal’s office, by a masked killer with a penchant for horror movies, find comfort in knowing how this will play out. Williamson's dialogue is the key to its meta-ramble, most of which is stolen from the voices of audiences, hoarse from years of shrieking at screens "Don't go into the basement!" Those same observations are placed in the mouths of its characters, who, like us know only too well the perils of being in a slasher film.

Screen Rant

The 10 scariest horror movies set in schools, according to ranker.

Schools are as commonplace to horror as their iconic slasher villains, but which ones do film fans on Ranker consider the best of the best?

Anxiety, tension, terror... These are all the natural elements in the average teenager's school life, so it's no wonder that they are just as superb a setting for horror flicks. After all, the only thing worse than a failing grade is a public humiliation at the hands of cinema's meanest, least intelligent teenagers - or getting stabbed or eaten by a werewolf might be worse.

With so many of these to catch up on, the community on Ranker has voted on which school-focused horror films are the best in the genre. This year's Stranger Things season 4 has surely introduced many new fans back to teen terror, and there's no better place to scratch that itch than with the classics that inspire it.

Ginger Snaps (2000)

Stream on fubotv, peacock, & amc+.

Directed by John Fawcett and co-written with Karen Walton, the cult-classic teen thriller focuses on sisters Brigitte (Emily Perkins) and Ginger (Katharine Isabelle), the latter who is slowly going through a transformation after a werewolf attack.

Related: 10 Most Underrated Horror Films, According To Reddit

The gruesome school murders are sure to be what contributed to its deserving mention from Ranker, however, its themes are the standout element of the film. Ginger Snaps is incredibly effective at using the werewolf transformation to give messages about the view of teenage women having sex, puberty, and the distance it brings in family dynamics as they develop. Its niche is likely the cause for its low voter turnout, but that doesn't diminish its brilliance.

Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)

Stream on paramount+ & hoopla.

The iconic slasher survivor Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) returns with only the original two movies acknowledged in its canon. As the seventh movie in the massive Halloween franchise, it's unsurprising it would earn a spot on Ranker.

The main event doesn't happen until forty-five minutes of empty jump scares, but when they do, they move across the entire campus in a non-stop anxiety rush. Its low ranking could be due to the dull environments; many sequences take place inside a kitchen that could be in any building, and it misses the opportunity to use its classrooms. There are some great uses of claustrophobic corridors at least, and it's still an entertaining watch.

Urban Legend (1998)

Stream on hulu.

Although critically seen as a pastiche of Scream , Urban Legend (directed by Jamie Blanks) is still remembered. Starring Alicia Witt, Loretta Devine, and Jared Leto, the film centers on the drama of teens making unsurprisingly bad decisions.

The movie is far more charming nowadays for its 90s-era editing, cliches, and tone, and that's likely how it's gained enough popularity . However, most of its kills don't even take place in school, and its more famous moments involve the backseat of a car. There is a brilliantly shot chase sequence with Sasha Thomas (Tara Reid) who is chased from the recording room and to other areas of the school, but otherwise, it's a surprising choice to be featured among the classics.

The Craft (1996)

Stream on freevee.

This 1996 supernatural horror directed by Andrew Flemming is a cult hit and the inspiration for the 1998 TV series Charmed . The film stars Fairuza Balk, Robin Tunney, Rachel True, and Neve Campbell practicing witchcraft in school.

Related: 10 Best Teen Slasher Horror Movies, According To Ranker

Although the first half of The Craft is less horror and more comedy, it deserves its votes for the turn it takes once Nancy (Balk's character) becomes powerful and the repercussions of their abilities begin. Each leads to unsettling scenes, with a noteworthy one involving Skeet Ulrich using the same creepy acting that made him threatening as Scream's Billy Loomis.

Black Christmas (1974)

There are several underrated horror classics , and this 1974 film is one of them, despite being the first holiday-themed horror movie. Directed by Bob Clark, the film has little to do with Christmas and a lot to do with its sorority home of young women being harassed by a pervert's voice on the phone.

The lingering point-of-view shots of the killer stalking parts of the house, all without music other than the rare keys of a piano — everything raises the foreboding intensity driven by audience's imagination. The acting by each of its protagonists retains the immersion in every act, keeping the audience's breath in their throat as violent death throes mix in with the phone's crude threats. It's no wonder it earned a higher spot on Ranker's list, especially being so focused on the unfortunately real fears of phone pranks on sorority women.

The Faculty (1998)

Stream on hbo max.

Described as "hip and scary," this film is the epitome of the '90s. Robert Rodriguez of Spy Kids fame takes the director's chair, and screenplay writer Kevin Williamson will be recognized by any horror fan after his successes in Halloween and Scream . In fact, it features an ensemble of recognizable names including Elijah Wood, Jon Stewart, and Usher.

Related: Best Callbacks And References In The Cult Classic The Faculty

The movie plays off the alienation teachers make their students feel - the keyword being 'alien.' It's primarily about the conformity of school life, with several characters feeling like outcasts, wanting to be more than what they are, and being put into stereotyped groups. Already those are feelings that any fan who has finished their school life could have related to at some point, earning it votes even if it's considered as a B-movie that never took off. It isn't scary per-se, but it's easy to understand its value for fans.

Scream 2 (1997)

Stream on paramount+.

Unsurprisingly, Scream's popularity trumps Urban Legends in the eyes of horror fans. Neve Campbell once again gives a great performance as the tenacious Sidney Prescott fighting back against the killer.

While the original Scream holds the top spot over its sequel , Wes Craven's second nightmare takes the edge when it comes to surviving the college campus. Aside from its opening, every kill and chase in Scream 2 takes place at or near the campus. It is also still debated as one of the best among its fans, having the third-highest audience meter on Rotten Tomatoes and making it an unsurprising pick for school horror. It was an effective location for the murder spree with another satisfying victory for Prescott. Hopefully, she had the same luck surviving her student loans.

Final Destination (2000)

Stream on fubotv & hbo max.

The first installment of the largely popular Final Destination series spanning five movies, this one directed by James Wong.

A new film was released every three years, so it's easy to see how a Final Deatination film gained its spot. Unfortunately, it's also one of the weaker, more baffling entries from Ranker. Of all the deaths in the original, none of them take place in the high school, but rather use high school students and their poor decision-making as a vehicle for gory death. Final Destination 5 at least had the death in the school gym, but the original bears no significance outside of being an aspect of their characters.

Carrie (1976)

Stream on paramount+ & amazon prime video.

The first adaption to Stephen King's Carrie remains its most famous. Directed by Brian De Palma and starring Sissy Spacek, the movie centers around a high school tragedy after a series of pranks on a young woman with telekinetic powers.

Of course, the highlight is the prom scene, in which Carrie is finally pushed over the edge and several other students not involved in her bullying also pay the price. It holds up to this day, and out of every movie mentioned, it's the most heartbreaking, so much so that it put the movie higher than many others. The fame of the original book and the movie's legacy only makes it more of a popular vote and more tragic, watching Carrie suffer through her school life and knowing how it will all end.

A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984)

Stream on netflix & hbo max.

The Freddy Kruger (Robert Englund) murder marathon was so influential that it reached this year's hit season of Stranger Things , staying fresh in the minds of audiences and likely helping it find its spot.

It's another Wes Craven classic that will be forever remembered. Its cast of school teens being used as revenge is pivotal to the plot that drives its string of murders, with its most remembered being the shower of blood that erupts after Glen (Johnny Depp) is suddenly sucked into his own bed. It's one of the few from Ranker's list that has such a memorable villain, and it clearly deserves its place.

50+ Best High School Horror Movies

High school is one big horror movie.

horror school trip

Is anything scarier than high school? Dealing with homework, grades, puberty, parents and (scariest of all) adolescent peers, high school is one big horror movie. It is actually so scary that dreaming about being back in high school is one of the most common nightmares in adults, even decades after they’ve graduated.

horror school trip

It’s no wonder that high school is a common setting for horror movies. It is an environment almost everyone is familiar with, there are plenty of reasons for the film’s characters to interact and it’s an excuse for producers to hire young actors to please the palate of a youth-obsessed culture. This list catalogs the best high school horror movies: films where high school plays a prominent role or at least one memorable scene takes place inside a school.

Table of Contents

High School Horror Movies

I was a teenage werewolf (1957).

horror school trip

A sci-fi horror movie about a troubled teenage boy, Tony (Michael Landon). When he seeks help from a hypnotherapist, Tony finds himself the subject of a twisted medical experiment. He is fed a serum that transforms him into a werewolf , which totally ruins his personal life. Despite being shot on a $150,000 budget, this film grossed over $2 million, not bad by 1950s standards.

Carrie (1976)

horror school trip

Carrie is a classic high school horror movie from the opening locker room scene to the characters’ obsession with the upcoming senior prom. Sissy Spacek stars as the title character, a shy and bullied girl with budding telekinetic powers. When she is the target of a cruel prank at prom, her rage fuels her powers and she literally burns her high school to the ground.

Halloween (1978)

horror school trip

While most of the action in the iconic slasher movie Halloween takes place in various homes the characters are babysitting at, there’s at least one scary scene set in a high school (see the image above). Fifteen years after inexplicably murdering his sister at age six, Michael Myers escapes from Smith’s Grove Sanitarium and returns to Haddonfield. He then stalks Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her friends on Halloween night.

Prom Night (1980)

horror school trip

This slasher movie also stars Jamie Lee Curtis as a high school student. As she and her friends prepare for prom, a killer in a ski mask stalks them. The killer’s identity probably has something to do with a cruel prank the gang pulled in middle school that resulted in a classmate’s death.

A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984)

horror school trip

This supernatural slasher movie sees a group of high school students being tormented by Freddy Krueger, a man with knives for fingers that they see in their dreams. After learning that dying in your dreams means dying in real life, Nancy (Heather Langenkamp) uses caffeine to stay awake, urging her boyfriend Glenn (Johnny Depp) not to fall asleep either. One memorable scene in Nightmare takes place at the local high school where Freddy briefly takes the form of a hall monitor.

Phenomena (1985)

horror school trip

This Dario Argento film follows an American girl, Jennifer (Jennifer Connelly) as she enters a Swiss boarding school. At the school, she hears of a serial killer on the loose and also discovers she has a psychic connection to insects. Jennifer tries to use her special powers to track down the killer before he dispatches with any more of her classmates.

Slaughter High (1986)

horror school trip

A slasher movie that sees eight former students show up for their high school reunion at their (now) abandoned high school. Years earlier the group played a prank on a socially isolated student that resulted in his disfigurement. Could this be the reason only eight people were invited the reunion? It sure seems like it when the attendees start dropping dead.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer (1992)

horror school trip

A comedy vampire movie about a valley girl cheerleader, Buffy (Kristy Swanson), who is told she is the “Chosen One”, a powerful slayer meant to hunt vampires. At first Buffy rejects her role, but eventually comes to embrace it. At her high school dance, it’s vampires vs the entire senior class. Hilary Swank, David Arquette and Ben Affleck (blink and you’ll miss it) make appearances.

Scream (1996)

horror school trip

A slasher movie about a killer wearing a Ghostface mask who torments and kills high school students in small town Woodsboro, California. After the first few murders, school is officially cancelled until further notice (cue the excellent use of Alice Cooper’s “School’s Out” in the score). The teens do what any other teens would do with school cancelled and throw a rager at an isolated home in the country.

The Craft (1996)

horror school trip

This teen horror movie follows Sarah (Robin Tunney) as she starts at a new Los Angeles high school. She meets a group of three misfit girls and the foursome bond over their interest in witchcraft, which Sarah has a special aptitude for. Forming a coven, the girls’ power grows while their friendship splinters.

Halloween: H20 (1998)

horror school trip

This slasher movie takes place at a private boarding school in California where Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) has started a new life as principal Keri Tate. Keri’s son John (Josh Hartnett) and his friends stay back from a field trip in order to take advantage of the empty campus. However, they are shocked when Michael Myers shows up in search of Laurie.

The Faculty (1998)

horror school trip

This sci-fi horror movie might be the quintessential high school horror movie. All the films on this list are about high school students, but The Faculty also takes place mostly at a high school. An eclectic group of students discover alien parasites are taking over their town and attempt to stop the invasion before it’s too late.

The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999)

horror school trip

This is a direct sequel to Carrie (1976), a movie that never needed a sequel . Rachel (Emily Bergl) is a high school student who is living with foster parents. Unbeknownst to her, she is secretly Carrie White’s half-sister. Rachel has telekinetic powers of her own, which she tries to repress as she deals with her emotions over the sudden death of her best friend (Mena Suvari) and the rapist (sic) football players at her school. Make no mistake, Carrie 2 is a bad movie. However, if you’re in the mood for a late 90s/early 00s formulaic horror movie, it can be a pretty fun watch. The high school students are so toxic the over-the-top death scenes at the end feel very satisfying.

Battle Royale (2000)

horror school trip

Battle Royale is the original version of the dystopian action thriller subgenre that utilizes a “battle royale” plot , later popularized in the U.S. by The Hunger Games franchise . In totalitarian Japan, a group of high school students are forced by the government to compete in a deadly game where only one of them will survive. Pandemonium ensues and some students show they are more willing than others to get ahead by murdering classmates.

Cherry Falls (2000)

The 15 Best School Horror Movies Set in High School or College

horror school trip

Horror movies can take place almost anywhere. In a graveyard? Lost in the woods? Out in deep space? Yeah, those are all great. But how about in a school where young folks just want to make it to graduation?

School brings out feelings of anxiety and dread in most students, but with these horror movies, those feelings turn to outright fear and terror.

There's an entire subgenre of flicks where going back to school can turn deadly, whether it's due to supernatural entities or deranged serial killers.

Here are the best school horror movies that take place in high schools and universities, which can be scarier than any graveyard.

15. Disturbing Behavior (1998)

horror school trip

Directed by David Nutter

Starring James Marsden, Katie Holmes, Nick Stahl

Horror, Mystery, Sci-Fi (1h 24m)

5.6 on IMDb — 33% on RT

Disturbing Behavior stars James Marsden, Katie Holmes, and Nick Stahl. It centers around a group of outcasts who discover something strange is happening with the "Blue Ribbons" at their school.

The Blue Ribbons are an elite group of preppy students who are basically perfect. They all participate in a special after-school program, which turns out to be more malicious than it first appears.

Inspired by the iconic 1975 thriller The Stepford Wives , Disturbing Behavior is a teen horror that makes a few missteps along the way. Even so, despite negative critical reception for its clichés, it's an acceptable watch.

14. The Craft (1996)

horror school trip

Directed by Andrew Fleming

Starring Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell

Drama, Fantasy, Horror (1h 41m)

6.4 on IMDb — 57% on RT

The Craft is amazing cult hit from the 90s that you probably haven't heard about but should definitely check out if you like teen horrors.

Set in a Los Angeles high school, it follows troubled teenager Sarah Bailey (played by Robin Tunney) who moves to LA to live with her father. Once there, she falls in with a group of outcast girls... only to discover that they're all witches.

Seeking freedom from their tormentors, the girls use their powers to get back at their bullies. But as their powers grow, they begin to take things too far—something that Sarah takes issue with.

horror school trip

13. Night of the Creeps (1986)

horror school trip

Directed by Fred Dekker

Starring Jason Lively, Tom Atkins, Jill Whitlow

Comedy, Horror, Sci-Fi (1h 28m)

6.7 on IMDb — 73% on RT

What happens when you cross Revenge of the Nerds with every B-movie trope ever? You get this cult classic from the director of The Monster Squad , another Halloween cult classic.

Much like that film, Night of the Creeps follows a misfit who saves the day against a horde of otherworldly creatures.

Fred Dekker's Night of the Creeps is a special treat for horror film fans, with nods and homages galore, including the fact that the main character is named Chris Romero (think George A. Romero) and his love interest is named Cynthia Cronenberg (think David Cronenberg).

Throw in a hardboiled detective, a slug-like alien, and a horde of zombies controlled by aliens, and you have a definitive frat horror B-movie.

horror school trip

12. Black Christmas (1974)

horror school trip

Directed by Bob Clark

Starring Olivia Hussey, Keir Dullea, Margot Kidder

Horror, Mystery, Thriller (1h 38m)

7.1 on IMDb — 72% on RT

No fan of horror movies can deny the impact of Black Christmas . Without it, we wouldn't have gotten the iconic classic Halloween four years later (which was originally titled The Night He Came Home ).

Indeed, Black Christmas stands the test of time and continues to be remembered as one of the first movies in the slasher genre that pushed boundaries and emerged as a feminist horror.

Bob Clark gave extra dimension to the sorority sisters instead of simply making them easy bait. And while Olivia Hussey's Jess may be flawed, it's easy to empathize and lean on her side.

Every blood splatter and moment of tension is earned, and Black Christmas ensures that college Christmases will never be the same.

horror school trip

11. The Loved Ones (2009)

horror school trip

Directed by Sean Byrne

Starring Xavier Samuel, Robin McLeavy, Jessica McNamee

Crime, Horror (1h 24m)

6.6 on IMDb — 98% on RT

Back in 2009, Australia gave us The Loved Ones , the underrated gem starring Xavier Samuel as Brent, a teenager who rejects the offer of Lola Stone (played by Robin McLeavy) to take her to the school dance.

Unfortunately, the burnout teen ends up being abducted by the in-denial Lola, who forces him into her most demented wishes.

The Loved Ones strikes a tricky balance in blending two opposing genres, resulting in a twisted and bittersweet horror romance. The wrath of Lola is one party you'll never forget for shocking reasons.

horror school trip

10. Happy Death Day (2017)

horror school trip

Directed by Christopher Landon

Starring Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Ruby Modine

Comedy, Horror, Mystery (1h 36m)

6.6 on IMDb — 71% on RT

Time loops can work extremely well in horror. After all, who would want to relive dread, terror, and death over and over again?

Happy Death Day roots its slasher premise in a time loop plot device, with college girl Tree Gelbman (played by Jessica Rothe) repeatedly stabbed to death on her birthday by a killer in a baby mask, only to wake up and relive the day again.

Fortunately, Tree is a clever girl who has the necessary wits to think through and overcome her absurd predicament. More importantly, Happy Death Day isn't just a bloodfest—it takes a black comedy approach that elevates the whole scenario to higher heights.

While comparisons to Groundhog Day and Scream are hard to deny, Happy Death Day goes for the perfect blend of laughter and splatter. It also teaches us to never use "In Da Club" as a morning alarm.

horror school trip

9. The Faculty (1998)

horror school trip

Directed by Robert Rodriguez

Starring Jordana Brewster, Clea DuVall, Laura Harris

Horror, Mystery, Sci-Fi (1h 44m)

6.6 on IMDb — 55% on RT

Being the genre hopper that he is, Robert Rodriguez struck in 1998 while the iron was hot, creating an unusually engaging mix of Scream and Invasion of the Body Snatchers when he gave us The Faculty .

The Faculty gathered the best teen stars of the time—Josh Hartnett, Elijah Wood, Jordana Brewster, Clea DuVall, and pre-superstar Usher Raymond—in this sci-fi horror filled with the high school drama, teenage angst, and emotional awakening that's typical in most coming-of-age movies.

But fear and paranoia are what really drive this film forward. Sure, it might be a little predictable, but The Faculty is a genuine tension-filled horror that more than deserves its cult status.

horror school trip

8. Veronica (2017)

horror school trip

Directed by Paco Plaza

Starring Sandra Escacena, Bruna González, Claudia Placer

Horror (1h 45m)

6.2 on IMDb — 88% on RT

Veronica is a 2017 Spanish horror film set in a high school. Fifteen years old and living in a working-class neighborhood, Verónica (played by Sandra Escacena) takes care of her family while her mom works at a bar.

Verónica, who attends a Catholic high school, is generally overworked and super stressed—so, on the day of a solar eclipse, she sneaks into the school's basement and performs a séance with her friends.

They use a Ouija board as the medium, and it really works. They end up summoning a demon and she gets possessed...

horror school trip

7. I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)

horror school trip

Directed by Jim Gillespie

Starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Anne Heche

Horror, Mystery (1h 41m)

5.8 on IMDb — 45% on RT

I Know What You Did Last Summer isn't just a well-known slasher flick, but one of the most iconic horror films of the 90s. It centers on a group of students on summer break who hit someone with their car.

Panicked and afraid of the consequences, they dump the body. Later, when they return to school in the fall, they realize they're being hunted by someone who "knows what they did last summer."

horror school trip

6. Scary Movie (2000)

horror school trip

Directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans

Starring Jon Abrahams, Carmen Electra, Shannon Elizabeth

Comedy, Horror (1h 28m)

6.3 on IMDb — 51% on RT

Scary Movie is a comedic spoof on horror movies, which kicks off with 18-year-old student Drew Decker (played by Carmen Electra) receiving a threatening phone call before she's stabbed to death.

In the wake of her murder, a group of students—who are all based on characters from 90s horror movies Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer —team up to survive the serial killer that's stalking them.

The plot is basically a mash-up of the two films, with lots of absurd sequences thrown in that poke fun at the horror tropes and clichés that were so prominent pre-Y2K.

horror school trip

5. It Follows (2014)

horror school trip

Directed by David Robert Mitchell

Starring Maika Monroe, Keir Gilchrist, Olivia Luccardi

Horror, Mystery, Thriller (1h 40m)

6.8 on IMDb — 95% on RT

It Follows is genuinely one of the most terrifying horror films I've ever seen, all while being an excellent horror movie for people who hate horror movies. In it, teen girl Jay (played by Maika Monroe) goes on a date with her new boyfriend, only to have a terrifying sexual encounter.

When Jay wakes up from what seemed like a perfect date, she's tied to a chair in an abandoned warehouse. There, she sees a naked woman walking towards her from across the train tracks.

Her boyfriend tells her that the woman is some sort of demon who only moves at a walking pace but always knows where she is and will always pursue her until she catches up and kills her. The only way out? To pass the curse on to someone else—by having sex with them.

horror school trip

4. Suspiria (1977)

horror school trip

Directed by Dario Argento

Starring Jessica Harper, Stefania Casini, Flavio Bucci

Horror (1h 32m)

7.3 on IMDb — 94% on RT

For devoted horror fans, famed Italian director Dario Argento may as well be considered the Michelangelo of the genre. If you need evidence of that, just watch the bloody masterpiece that is Suspiria .

Set in a world-renowned ballet school, the film follows American ballet student Suzy Bannion (played by Jessica Harper) who enrolls only to uncover a dark conspiracy linked to the murder of its students.

Darkly beautiful in his direction, Argento builds up the suspense and pulls out the rug at our most vulnerable. Just as much praise goes to Jessica Harper and her expressions as she goes from genuine terror to upsetting submission in an unforgettable performance.

horror school trip

3. Jennifer's Body (2009)

horror school trip

Directed by Karyn Kusama

Starring Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried, Adam Brody

Comedy, Horror (1h 42m)

5.4 on IMDb — 46% on RT

Starring Megan Fox as the eponymous Jennifer and Amanda Seyfried as her average girl best friend Needy, Jennifer's Body is a bit of a cult classic now but that wasn't always the case.

One day, after a rock concert goes awry, Needy notices that Jennifer is acting strange. Like, throwing up weird black fluid and exhibiting overly aggressive behavior. Of course, Jennifer brushes it off.

When Needy learns that a flesh-eating demon is now possessing her best friend and needs to eat the flesh of her male classmates to survive, Needy does what she can to stop her.

horror school trip

2. Carrie (1976)

horror school trip

Directed by Brian De Palma

Starring Sissy Spacek, Piper Laurie, Amy Irving

Horror, Mystery (1h 38m)

7.4 on IMDb — 93% on RT

Carrie is one of the most famous horror movies out there. Even if you haven't seen it before, you've probably heard its name.

Based on a Stephen King novel of the same name, Carrie is about the titular Carrie White (played by Sissy Spacek): a telekinetic teenager who's bullied at school and terrorized by her abusive, religious mother.

When Carrie is invited to prom only to end up as the butt of a cruel joke, things take a turn as horrible supernatural events occur.

horror school trip

1. Scream (1996)

horror school trip

Directed by Wes Craven

Starring Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette

Horror, Mystery (1h 51m)

7.4 on IMDb — 81% on RT

What more can be said about Scream that hasn't been said already? It was the huge success that put Wes Craven back in the game, the self-aware satire that opened the floodgates of meta humor, and the trendsetter that unleashed a wave of teen-centered slashers.

But the greatest truth about Scream is this: despite diminishing returns with its sequels, the formula never fully wears off. The gimmick of anyone adopting the identity of Ghostface still works nearly 30 years later.

Thus, Ghostface's identity can be passed on and will live on for many generations. Scream 's legacy can never be spooked, and that's why it stands out—not just as one of the best horror movies involving school, but one of the most legendary horror films, period.

A School Trip from Hell - Horror Comedy 'Unhuman' Official Trailer

by Alex Billington May 9, 2022 Source: YouTube

Unhuman Trailer

"What is it with you shut-ins and these zombie fantasies?" Blumhouse + Paramount have revealed the main trailer for Unhuman , a horror comedy from Blumhouse Television that is coming to VOD next month. A new film from the filmmaker behind The Collector and The Collection , though this feels much different. A group of misfit high school students must band together to survive when their school bus crashes on a field trip. Relationships are tested once they realize they are being stalked by strange attackers. They must take down the murderous zombie-creatures… before they end up killing each other first. This stars Brianne Tju , Benjamin Wadsworth , Uriah Shelton , Ali Gallo , and Peter Giles . This definitely looks made-for-TV, with a limited budget and derivative ideas, even the "undead" after them aren't that scary. Worth skipping?

Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Marcus Dunstan's Unhuman , direct from YouTube :

Unhuman Poster

Eleven-year-old Onnoval does not find himself at ease with his schoolmates. He believes that when he fights with someone or gets very excited, he will turn into a werewolf and keeps it a secret with his school sweetheart, Liselore. Teased and taunted at school, Onnoval writes a horror story in which he takes revenge on his classmates who actually humiliated him. There is this particular incident where Onnoval's love poem gets hand picked by Gino, the main bully and is then torn apart in front of their classmates. So, writing the stories to avenge his insult, naturally becomes an escape route for Onnoval. But when Ferluci gets his hands on the story and the devil makes a deal of turning them to true, things start to get very real indeed. If Onnoval does not rewrite his story very soon, everything will go horribly wrong during a school trip to The Horror Park. But that means he must get his story back from Ferluci... Inspired by popular novels of the same title.

20 School Trip Horror Stories Shared By Teachers

Although school trips sound like a dream for kids, they’re usually an absolute nightmare for the teachers. They constantly have to make sure that no one loses their stuff, doesn’t touch or break what they shouldn’t, and most importantly doesn’t get lost or left behind. However, even despite the teachers’ best efforts, some school trips turn out to be complete disasters.

Today we have prepared you a collection of school trip horror stories shared by teachers in this viral Reddit thread , and they will make you realize how underappreciated their profession is. Check out some of the best (or should I say worst?) ones in the gallery below!

Fifth grade field trip to a zoo. During a tour of the primate exhibits a notoriously ill-behaved student hurls a stick down into the gorilla habitat and lands near an adult gorilla. Without hesitation, the now angry gorilla arms himself with the same stick and sends it back like a tomahawk to the boy with terrifying velocity and wildly impressive precision. The stick shatters around the boys face and he goes down. Commotion insues. More gorillas make an appearance and begin to scream at the group of horrified children. Zoo staff start piling in out of the woodwork to see whats going on. The orangutans on the other side of the trail have now got wind of the situation and have begun mobilizing to assist their gorilla comrades. It’s a war on two fronts now. Gorilla and orangutans launch volleys of feces and student’s scatter. Througout the entire exibit all manner of primates begin their intimidating chatter and howling. An army of zoo staff has swarmed the primate exibits and manages to stop war of the planet of the apes.

30 minutes later, the zoo has indefinitely banned the school from returning and the boy is on the way to the hospital for 5 stitches in his chin.

In the kindergarten field trip, we had the parent of our most challenging student come along as a chaperone. Her group was her own son, and a very sweet, obident girl. Let’s call him Jim and the girl Shaunda.

Typically we teachers set up “base camp” while the parents take the groups of students through the park. We do a scavenger hunt, and the parents bring us their cards for a stamp as they go through each section.

The first time the zoo employee brought us Jim, he said that the boy was in the monkey exhibit trying to climb over the fences. Luckily he had on a school shirt, and Jim was brought right to us. We called his mother’s phone, and she didn’t answer. About 15 minutes later, the mom shows up and says “Jim, how did you get in front of us, we we’re walking together just a minute ago.” We teachers explained that in fact, Jim had been with us for a bit, and the zoo ranger had brought him over. No real responseonce from the mom. We asked her to turn on her phone.

They went off again.

The second time they brought us Jim, he had gotten into the fountain. It had taken several employees to chase him down as he ran and giggled. Same drill, we called Mom. No answer. Jim was sopping wet with gross fountain water. He did not seem too concerned. The mom did not show up for 45 minutes. Again she said, “Jim, how did you get in front of us, we we’re walking together just a minute ago.” This time I was watching Shaunda, the look on that little girl’s face said it all. Total amazement that an adult was lying.

They went off again to walk to the picnic area.

Yes. The third time the zoo brought back little Jim, it was with a police officer. Apparently, the zoo was watching the cameras, and the minute the mom was out of sight, she let go of Jim and basically ditched him. The mom got a citation for failure to maintain responsibility for her child and a 1 year ban from the zoo. The police officer accompanied her and Jim back to the buses and waited with them until it was time to leave. They did not participate in the picnic.

Shaunda had the best moral to the story. “No wonder he is so bad, his mama won’t even keep him safe when there is a tiger around.”.

He is now a very troubled 4th grader. He doesn’t get to go on field trips without 1 on 1 support from a school staff member.

Not a teacher but a chaperone on a 6th grade trip. And on the bus a pair of the more … um… developed students proceeded to have a rather extensive make out session.

So I went back there and plunked my Dad butt between them. They were not happy. The conversation about teen pregnancy avoidance was even more painful for them.

Former assistant teacher here, we were on a 6th grade field trip to the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. Cool place.

So – at the time one of the attractions was a sort of centripetal force machine that you can sit in and get swung around (poor explanation but imagine the Gravitron only smaller and faster with seats and no walls. I googled it but can’t find the ride, guessing it was swapped out for something else). Well, one dumbass kid thought it’d be funny to show off and see what happens when you undo your seat belt while riding.

Naturally, he got flung out of the machine at roughly half the speed of sound and broke his fall with nothing but his face. Glasses busted, massive concussion, totally wrecked. There was a whole investigation and the teacher in charge of that kid’s group had to actually defend himself from accusations that he could’ve somehow stopped that level of stupidity. Sadly I didn’t witness it but did hear the impact from one room over. Pretty interesting day.

We went skating, and one of the students fell, smacked her chin off the ice, and somehow got a skate blade to the face… she needed a bunch of stitches, and was able to stick her tongue through the hole in her face…

I went on a class trip as chaperone to a science center. I was in charge of a group of 8 boys. One of them goes missing, I ask the others where he went, and they don’t know either. He’s missing for about 10 minutes until a security guard from the center comes up to me with him. The guy asks “is he one of yours?”, and tells this kid to open his backpack when I say yes. Probably $200 worth of stolen stuff in there. He spent the rest of the trip right next to me

Kid punched a dolphin. Petting tank at SeaWorld. Kid just hauled off and punched a dolphin. School was banned.

Another time all the chaperones went to the beer tasting at Busch Gardens. That got a few people in trouble.

Another time we had a kid from Kenya with us. She was straight up out of Africa for only a few weeks. When it was time to leave Disney she got on the first bus she saw and ended up at Pleasure Island (Disney Springs now.)

Then there was the kid that destroyed TWO hotel rooms in Gainesville by flushing soap down the toilet.

Another kid (Disney again) roughed up a chipmunk (it was Chip or Dale.) Disney Security stopped our bus before we could leave and detained him. There is so much more.

Asked my students to be respectful of other pedestrians while on the trip, because some people want to enjoy the nature center by themselves, one kid saw a woman with her service dog and tried to pull on it because “mommy would let me have it” we had to leave because of that and he ruined the entire trip for everyone

Ok, so not a teacher, but: One time on a trip to the movies in 8th grade, one of the chaperones was my english teacher, who was deathly alergic to citrus. (I think we know where this is going) On the bus ride back to school, a kid takes an orange, peels it and throws it at her, HARD. Hard enough to the point where orange juice got all over her shirt. Not sure if it was revenge related or just being a [prick]. Anyway, she immediatly starts having an allergic reaction and we have to pull over on the side of the highway and wait for an ambulance. We go back to school and the day is over. The school sends out an email basically saying “please dont attempt to kill your teachers with allergic reactions” and that she will be fine. Although, we had a substitute for 4 days and the kid got expelled.

Our bus driver stopped on train tracks as a train was coming.

Our bus full of first graders was approaching train tracks as the lights flashed and the gate started to lower. Our driver decided not to stop at the tracks (like any bus should by law) and thought maybe she could beat the lowering arms? She realized she couldn’t and braked ON THE TRACK (the first of two). The gate arms slammed onto our bus, and a man stopped at a red light got out of his car to lift it off my side of the bus. I panicked from the front seat as the incoming train whistled, and the parent chaperones and I screamed at her to MOVE BACK. She kept saying “I can’t go in reverse.” She had no panic in her voice at all.

Thankfully the train came on the second track. I can’t remember if she actually backed up or not; I was absolutely traumatized and spent the beginning of the trip on the phone with transportation. They sent us another driver for the way home, and our original driver sat awkwardly in the front seat. We take the same trip every year, and every year I cringe when we cross the tracks.

Obligatory “not a teacher but” story.

I went to a water park in 3rd grade, and I remember after our class got changed into our bathing suits, we noticed a kid was missing, and so were all of the teachers. Then we looked out at the area where the slides were, and witnessed this kid sprinting, butt naked, dropping logs as he went with 3 teachers and a lifeguard trailing him.

They caught him, shut down half of the park for an hour and called his mom to come get him, and to this day I can’t figure out why he did it.

A girl on a BETA club trip thought it would be funny to put “bomb on board” in the window of the bus. The interstate was shut down, the bus was pulled over and SWAT team raided the bus. The bomb squad was called in to sweep the bus even though the girl admitted it was a hoax. She didn’t go to jail somehow, she was also a popular cheerleader and didn’t get any disciplinary action from the school.

I took three classes of 6th graders (age 11-12) to visit the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. We’d come from about an hour and a half away – the kids & other teachers on buses, but since I was hugely pregnant I was allowed to drive my own car. It had been raining, but I arrived a bit ahead of the bus, so when the kids got off I was there to lead them to the museum.

As I began walking towards the kids getting off the buses I noticed a lot of papers on the sidewalk…and suddenly realized that they were an assortment of extremely graphic pictures. I stopped to try to gather them up before the kids got an unexpected and completely inappropriate sex ed lesson. We’d already had a BIG TALK about being MATURE when viewing classical art (e.g. nude statues, omg) but we were not prepared for the most lurid p**n LA had to offer.

Unfortunately the rain had plastered the papers to the sidewalk, and the sight of the very pregnant teacher scrambling on hands and knees on Wiltshire Blvd sent the chaperones and teachers rushing to my aid…with 100 kids right after them, no matter how urgently I tried to wave them back.

It was…memorable.

One of my students thought it would be cute to sit in a baby swing. She got stuck. The NYPD had to be called. They cut her out of the baby swing in front the whole grade, who naturally swarmed the area to watch. She was “Snapchat famous” for a weekend

Obligatory not a teacher, but when my econ class went to NYC for a field trip, one of my classmates tried to buy weed off a guy in an alleyway. Turned out to be an undercover cop. We were the honors class. He was a cool kid. I was walking to school in freezing weather one day and he offered me a ride.

Don’t remember what happened to him after that. I know he didn’t graduate with us that year.

I had a child have a massive asthma attack after a visit to a farm and a cotton gin. I ended up giving her mouth to mouth on the side of the road and praying for an ambulance. She was fine after a couple breathing treatments and some steroids, thank goodness. This was before cell phones were common and we had to use the call box on the side of the highway. 10/10 would not repeat!

Group trip to take a tour of a college campus. We had a young man jump out of a bus window while it was going down the highway! His long term girlfriend had broken up with him a few days before, and he later explained that he didn’t see the point of going on the college visit anymore because he didn’t want to go to the same college as her, or even apply to the same ones. Denied up and down that it was a suicide attempt.

His friends circled the wagons and supported his story, and the story/rumors died quickly. He got some gnarly road rash, but avoided being hit by any cars.

I always got the impression that it was, in fact, a suicide attempt. If he didn’t want to go on the tour, why go at all? Why board the bus? He could have stayed at school.

This was several years ago. He is fine!

[Top 10] High School Horror Anime

High School Horror Anime

High School is a scary time for all of us: acne, grades, worrying about what your peers think about you and to be fair I could probably go on forever. However, I assume none of us had a high school experience like some of these anime characters have. So whether you are procrastinating on doing some homework or looking for something to watch while you're skipping school, here’s a great list of eerie education at it’s finest.

10) School Days

horror school trip

What at first sounds like a just a story of a love triangle, School Days is yet another anime that isn’t what it seems at first glance. The story starts with Makoto Itou, a school boy who notices pretty girl Kotonoha at school one day, immediately smitten. Friend and classmate Sekai takes notice of his attraction for Kotonoha and promises to help him get them together, for a price. This anime is filled with lies, deceit, sexual abuse and perhaps go as far as murder, what sounds like a modern day Shakespearean tragedy this story will keep you on your toes the deeper it gets.

9) School-Live!

horror school trip

It is the job of the School Living club at Megurigaoka High School to make school life the best for its students, but things are not always as they seem. We soon learn that these adorable girls have a much bigger problem at hands, a zombie apocalypse. Poor Yuki Takeya is unable to perceive what is going on around them as she acts blissfully unaware of the zombies, how will these girls make it out alive if one of their club members can’t even comprehend the horrors at hand?

8) Ookami Kakushi

horror school trip

After moving to a new village with his father and sister, Hiroshi Kuzumi soon realizes the odd traditions that have been kept alive by local villagers. After winning the affection of a new classmate of his, and finding out many of his other classmates have mysteriously died he grows suspicious. All he’s told by his aloof classmate Nemuru is to “stay away from the old part of the village.”

7) high school of the dead.

horror school trip

In a zombie ridden town, Highschool of the Dead focuses on a group of highschoolers and their companions as a zombie outbreak starts to affect their school, and ultimately the world. The unique group goes on a quest to hopefully find their family members, beat the zombies with their impressive combat and hopefully stay safe. We watch as this unlikely group of heroes navigate the undead world around them and try their best to make it out unscathed.

6) Hell Teacher Nube

horror school trip

A fun, loving teacher who wants nothing more to protect his students and keep his secret hidden. What is his secret? Under his glove he has a monster hand and he is a trained exorcist that is ready to defeat any ghosts or demons that come near his students. A More lighthearted horror than some of the other entries on this list, Hell Teacher Nube  deals with all kinds of supernatural entities but has enough of a humor value to give you a warm fuzzy feeling by the end of it.

5) From The New World

horror school trip

After noticing he can see and talk to her he decides to help her find out the truth of how she died, because she cannot remember. He begins a Paranormal Club at the school to help dive deep into her past and give her the peace she so desperately searches for.

horror school trip

Kouichi Sakakibara just transferred to a new school. This new school sort of has a gloomy aura surrounding it, but what's even weirder is the girl with the eye patch that everybody ignores, even the teacher. Other students tell him not to befriend her but he does and suddenly his life is changed, as he feels he must get to the bottom of what's going on behind the scenes in class 3-3. Will him and his new friend be able to break the curse plaguing their classmates, or are they destined to meet the same fate?
