Iron Maiden add extra date to The Future Past UK Tour

Another chance to see the heavy metal legends

Iron Maiden have added an extra concert to the The Future Past UK Tour in summer 2023.

The heavy metal legends will play a second concert at London’s The O2 on Saturday 8th July 2023 in addition to their previously announced show there on the Friday.

Iron Maiden’s UK & Ireland tour opens at Dublin 3Arena on Saturday 24th June 2023 and visits Glasgow OVO Hydro, Leeds First Direct Arena, Manchester AO Arena, Nottingham Motorpoint Arena and Birmingham Utilita Arena before concluding with the two concerts at London’s The O2.

Tickets to Iron Maiden’s UK dates are on sale from Planet Rock Tickets now!

The Future Past Tour will feature previously unperformed songs from the band’s 2021 album ‘Senjutsu’, rarely performed material from their seminal 1986 album ‘Somewhere in Time’, and classic tracks.

Iron Maiden bassist and founder Steve Harris said: “Following the release of our latest album, ‘Senjutsu’, we updated the current Legacy of the Beast Tour a little by opening the show with the first 3 songs from it, with the Japanese Palace stage set.

“As it doesn’t make a lot of sense to repeat this for a ‘Senjutsu’ album tour, we thought about other options, and we’ve decided to revisit Somewhere In Time as that tour didn’t feature in the various retrospective history tours we’ve played over the years. They were based on our 80’s concert videos and sadly we did not film that tour (blame the manager!!).

“We have had lots of requests from fans over the years for many tracks on it so we are now going to play them, plus of course a few others we know you will like! It will also be particularly satisfying to finally get to play some of the more epic tracks on Senjutsu, it's been a long wait!

“2023 is going to be an exciting time and we’re really looking forward to seeing everyone again in the UK, Ireland and around Europe.”

Iron maiden's mascot eddie through the years:, iron maiden - ‘running free’ (1980).

Eddie the Head made his first appearance on Iron Maiden's debut single 'Running Free' in February 1980. His creator, Portsmouth born artist Derek Riggs, obscured the face to build an enigmatic aura ahead of the release of their self-titled debut album two months later.

Iron Maiden - ‘Iron Maiden' (1980)

Iron Maiden - Eddie's proper horrorshow face was finally unveiled when 'Iron Maiden' hit the shelves in April 1980. The image is based on the original sketch Riggs drew in late 1979, however, with added hair to make Eddie look more metal.

Iron Maiden - ‘Sanctuary’ (1980)

In May 1980, Eddie stoked up some controversy through his depiction on the 'Sanctuary' single cover. Wielding a knife, Eddie stands proudly above the dead corpse of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Iron Maiden - 'Women In Uniform' (1980)

On Iron Maiden's third single 'Women In Uniform', Thatcher gets her own back on Eddie. Dressed in full army uniform and clutching a machine gun, the PM lies in wait for Eddie who's distracted by the attention of two ladies.

Iron Maiden - 'Killers' (1981)

Continuing the murderous theme, on Iron Maiden's second album, 'Killers', Eddie is holding a blood-smeared axe as his unfortunate victim claws at his chest. The block of flats in the background is based on where Riggs was living at the time.

Iron Maiden - 'Twilight Zone' (1981)

Released in March 1981, the 'Twilight Zone' single cover depicts the spirit of Eddie reaching out at a crying woman through a mirror. As the song's lyrics suggest ("She lays in bed at night and that is when I make my call. But when she stares at me, she can't see nothing at all. Because you see I can't take no shape or form. It's been three long years since I've been gone"), Eddie is actually the woman's former lover who is contacting her from purgatory.

Iron Maiden - 'Purgatory' (1981)

The memorable sleeve of June 1981's 'Purgatory' sees Lucifer's face melt away to reveal Eddie's face beneath. It was the start of a satanic chapter in Eddie's history.

Iron Maiden 'Maiden Japan' (1981)

The original cover of September 1981's 'Maiden Japan' live EP depicted Eddie clutching the decapitated head of the then frontman Paul Di'Anno. Maiden manager Rod Smallwood swiftly ordered a redraft when he saw it as the band were preparing to oust Di'Anno. Despite his best efforts, the EP was released with the original sleeve in South America.

Iron Maiden - 'The Number of the Beast' (1982)

The artwork for 'The Number of the Beast' was originally meant to be used on the 'Purgatory' cover eight months earlier, however, the band were so overawed that they asked Riggs to hold it back for their next album. An iconic image of Eddie holding Satan like a puppet and Satan clutching an even smaller Eddie, it was all too predictably condemned by staunch Christians in America.

Iron Maiden - 'Run To The Hills' (1982)

According to Derek Riggs, the artwork for the timeless anthem 'Run To The Hills' is based on the idea of a "power struggle in hell" between Eddie and Satan.

The album title track cover is the aftermath of Eddie and Satan's battle on 'Run To The Hills'. Eddie, of course, won and he's proudly clutching Lucifer's pathetic cranium.

Iron Maiden - 'Flight of Icarus' (1983)

A cheeky swipe at Led Zeppelin, on the 'Peace of Mind' lead single a winged Eddie has just torched Icarus with flamethrower. Derek Riggs has admitted that Icarus was deliberately based on Led Zep's iconic Swan Song logo.

Iron Maiden - 'Piece of Mind' (1983)

May 1983's 'Piece of Mind' saw Eddie undergo a dramatic transformation into a deranged, lobotomised mental patient complete with shackles, straightjacket and padded room. How the mighty have fallen, eh?

Iron Maiden - 'The Trooper' (1983)

A stark juxtaposition to the album, Maiden's timeless 1983 anthem 'The Trooper' aptly came with one of the most iconic realisations of Eddie ever. Wearing red military regalia, Eddie is an unstoppable British soldier who has charged through the opposition like a hot knife through butter. A truly iconic image.

Iron Maiden - '2 Minutes to Midnight' (1984)

Smoking a cigar, clutching a machine gun and pointing directly at us mere mortals, Eddie looks defiant as an atomic bomb mushroom cloud erupts in the background.

Iron Maiden - 'Powerslave' (1984)

The visually striking, ancient Egyptian themed cover for Iron Maiden's fifth album in 1984 saw Eddie morph into a giant stone Pharoah. Humorously the entrance to the pyramid is via Eddie's crotch. The artwork inspired the extravagant, boundary pushing stage production on the sprawling World Slavery Tour of 1984/85.

Iron Maiden - 'Aces High' (1984)

The song tells the story of a British RAF pilot fighting against the German Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain in 1940 so Riggs duly re-enacted this with Eddie playing the song's protagonist.

Iron Maiden - 'Live After Death' (1985)

Recorded during Iron Maiden's colossal World Slavery Tour, in keeping with its title the Live After Death artwork sees a fiery Eddie heroically rise from his deathbed. Eddie is an amalgamation of his previous guises – he has the hair of his earliest incarnations but the cracked lobotomised skull and shackles (bound by an electrical current) of 'Peace of Mind' era.

Iron Maiden - 'Run To The Hills' (live) (1985)

Backed by a live version of their 1980 track 'Phantom of the Opera' (not to be confused with the soppy Andrew Lloyd Webber composition of six years later), the live single release of 'Run To The Hills' in 1985 depicts Eddie as the phantom taking off his mask while playing his metallic organ one-handed amidst a hilly landscape.

Iron Maiden 'Wasted Years' (1986)

The first tantalising glimpse of Eddie's new cyborg manifestation came via a computer screen reflection on September 1986's 'Wasted Years'.

Iron Maiden - 'Somewhere in Time' (1986)

The cyborg Eddie was revealed in all his glory for the very first time when 'Somewhere in Time' landed three weeks after 'Wasted Years'. Across the visually potent front and back cover there are dozens of references to the band's history and previous album/single sleeves. The band themselves even make an appearance!

Iron Maiden - 'Stranger in a Strange Land' (1986)

A delicious droid hybrid of Clint Eastwood in Man With No Name and Decker in Blade Runner, a suave Eddie looks cool as f*ck on the November 1986 single cover. Throw into the mix some Star Wars-esque creatures and yet more Maiden back referencing (the clock is at 2 Minutes To Midnight) and you're onto a winner.

Iron Maiden - 'Can I Play with Madness' (1988)

Just like the upcoming album 'Seventh Song of a Seventh Son', the artwork to the March 1988 single saw Riggs delve into more surreal realms. Eddie's decapitated, hovering head is part cyborg/part boiled egg while a corkscrew fist smashes through it clutching at the remnants of his brain.

Iron Maiden - 'Seventh Son of a Seventh Son' (1988)

An image that draws parallels with those great surrealists Rene Magritte and Salvador Dali, the bodiless, floating Eddie holding his innards (which entomb a baby Eddie) while his head burns directly contrasts to the still and serene polar landscape. Rod Smallwood's brief was to create something "surreal and bloody weird" – Riggs succeeded emphatically.

Iron Maiden 'The Evil That Men Do' (1988)

The surrealism was stepped up a notch on the August 1988 single with Eddie's head reduced to a cloud of smoke, his trademark teeth and robotic eyes. The mascot's mouth houses a tortured ghoul, snakes and battery volts escape from his skull and a grinning, lightning bolt winged demon sits atop clutching a contract.

Iron Maiden - 'The Clairvoyant' (1988)

Riggs has revealed that the three-headed, ultra surreal Eddie represents the past, present and the future.

Iron Maiden - 'Maiden England' (1989)

The legendary 1989 live video (recorded at Birmingham NEC a year earlier) came complete with a cover image of a leather-clad, long-haired Eddie flying over a crowd clutching a battered Union Jack flag in homage to The Trooper.

Iron Maiden - 'Holy Smoke'' (1990)

In keeping with the Televangelist bashing song, an enraged, everyday Eddie throws televisions broadcasting the money grabbing sermons into a billowing fire. Good effort, Eddie.

Iron Maiden - 'No Prayer for the Dying' (1990)

The first non-wraparound cover since 1983's 'Peace of Mind' sees Eddie emerging from a grave once again – this time clawing at an unfortunate undertaker's neck. Riggs completely abandoned the cyborg and lobotomy aspects of more recent Eddies and returned to the first incarnation.

Iron Maiden - 'Bring Your Daughter… to the Slaughter' (1990)

Iron Maiden's only chart-topping single came with two sleeves. One depicts Eddie clutching Jessica Rabbit outside The Paradise Club (named after the TV show Bruce was acting in) while the other sees him play the grim reaper in a graveyard.

Iron Maiden - 'Be Quick or Be Dead' (1992)

A song about a number of political scandals that erupted in the late eighties and early nineties, the cover sees Eddie strangle a cut-out of Robert Maxwell – the man at the centre of a huge banking scandal at the time.

Iron Maiden - 'Fear of the Dark' (1992)

Released in May 1992, Iron Maiden's ninth album was a landmark for Eddie as it was the first time he'd been penned by another artist. Derek Riggs' submissions were rejected in favour of Melvyn Grant's eerie painting of a half-tree/half-demon Eddie. In Mick Wall's 2004 Maiden biog, Rod Smallwood commented: "We wanted to upgrade Eddie for the 90s. We wanted to take him from the sort of comic-book horror creature and turn him into something… even more threatening."

Iron Maiden - 'A Real Live One' (1993)

Derek Riggs returned to the fray in style for the 1993 live album 'A Real Live One' where a fang-toothed Eddie bites through high voltage cable.

Iron Maiden - 'Fear of the Dark (live)' (1993)

Riggs transformed Eddie into Iron Maiden founding member and bass-wielding legend Steve Harris for the live single release, complete with trademark stage pose.

Iron Maiden - 'A Real Dead One' (1993)

On Iron Maiden's second live album in six months, Eddie plays a Radio Hell Disc Jockey. Sadly for Eddie, his chronic excess saliva condition hasn't shifted.

Iron Maiden - 'Hallowed Be Thy Name (live)' (1993)

With tensions high in Maiden, in 1993 Bruce Dickinson left the band to focus on his solo career. Two months later in a cheeky parting shot the cover of the live version of Maiden's 1982 anthem depicts a demonic Eddie impaling the departed frontman with a gargantuan spear.

Iron Maiden - 'Live at Donington' (1993)

Artist Mark Wilkinson (famed for his Marillion album covers) became only the third man to draw Eddie on Live at Donington.

Iron Maiden - 'The X Factor ' (1995)

Created by graphic artist Hugh Syme (noted for his work with Rush), the lobotomy Eddie was revived on this hard-hitting sleeve. Due to the graphic, gritty realism of the hideous torture Eddie suffered, the band were forced to issue a reversible sleeve for the October 1995 release containing a much tamer image.

Iron Maiden - 'Man on the Edge' (1995)

Released a month before The X Factor, Man on the Edge gave a stomach-turning glimpse of Hugh Syme's scalped and tortured Eddie.

Iron Maiden - 'Lord of the Flies' (1996)

Another macabre Syme creation, this time Eddie is transformed into a beleaguered monarch straped to a torture device and flanked by two giant flies.

Iron Maiden - 'Virus' (1996)

Iron Maiden's standalone single came with three separate covers and two Eddie incarnations. Derek Rigg's created an animated Eddie head on a circuit board but our pick is Syme's proper scary version which adorned CD1 and CD2. Awesome.

Iron Maiden - 'The Angel and the Gambler' (1998)

Released over four different formats, the single came with two versions of a bogey green Eddie. One of an Uncle Sam-esque Eddie standing outside a boat casino and the other depicts just the head and hand of a lobotomised Eddie that would eventually appear on the Ed Hunter sleeve.

Iron Maiden - 'Futureal' (1998)

Two Eddies were revived for the alternate 'Futureal' covers – the cyborg Eddie of 'Somewhere In Time' and a futuristic version of the Pharoah Eddie from 'Powerslave'.

Iron Maiden - 'Virtual XI ' (1998)

Maiden drafted in Melvyn Grant again for the artwork to their 1998 album – their second and final release with Blaze Bayley on vocals. An all-consuming demon like Eddie straight from the bowels of hell ominously reaches for a child wearing a virtual reality headset.

Iron Maiden - 'Ed Hunter' (1999)

An almost Incredible Hulk-esque Eddie graced the cover of the video game and accompanying greatest hits album from 1999.

Iron Maiden - 'Brave New World' (2000)

At the turn of the Millennium, in Derek Riggs' brilliant creation Eddie appeared as a menacing cloud of smoke above a space-age London skyline. Two years later the 'Rock in Rio' live record revived the cover but switched the landscape for the Brazilian city.

Iron Maiden - 'The Wicker Man' (2000)

Directly influenced by the cult horror film of the same name, Eddie was transformed into a living embodiment of The Wicker Man by artist Mark Wilkinson.

Iron Maiden - 'Out of the Silent Planet' (2000)

Keeping up their trait of issuing different sleeves, one depicts the current Brave New World Eddie and the other harks back to his eighties past.

Iron Maiden - 'BBC Archives' (2002)

The Derek Riggs artwork is based on a picture he created for Billboard Magazine of a giant Eddie smashing Capitol Records in Los Angeles to smithereens. For the archives boxset he switched it for Broadcasting House in London.

Iron Maiden - 'Beast over Hammersmith' (2002)

Adapted from a 1982 Derek Riggs tour poster, the live album sleeve features the traditional Eddie grinding a British flag into Planet Earth.

Iron Maiden - 'Best of the ‘B’ Sides' (2002)

An absolutely phenomenal Mark Wilkinson illustration of Eddie mooning from the front seat of a truck. Some editions feature the slogan 'Maiden Rule' across Eddie's buttocks while others are emblazoned with 'Up The Irons'.

Iron Maiden - 'Edward The Great' (2002)

Named after their legendary mascot, Iron Maiden's third compilation album from November 2002 boasts a very regal looking Eddie sitting on his rightful throne and flanked by fierce wolves. It is American illustrator Tom Adams' only realisation of Eddie.

Iron Maiden - 'Dance of Death' (2003)

Eddie plays the role of the grim reaper again on David Patchett's computer generated sleeve for the 2003 release. One of Iron Maiden's most poorly received album covers, it's reported that Patchett asked for his name to be removed from the credits as he was unhappy that an unfinished version was used.

Iron Maiden - 'Wildest Dreams' (2003)

The September 2003 single cover is a still from the computer animated video, which sees the six band members traverse a barren landscape in race cars before being swallowed by a giant Eddie.

Iron Maiden - 'Rainmaker' (2003)

The close up of Eddie's deliciously evil face in front of a bleak, rain-lashed background is another video still.

Iron Maiden - 'Death on the Road' (2005)

Having been a mortician slaying zombie in the past (see 1990's 'No Prayer for the Dying'), in a complete role reversal Eddie is depicted as an undertaker from the bowels of hell on 2005 live album/DVD 'Death on the Road'. The awesome cover was designed by Melvyn Grant.

Iron Maiden - 'The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg' (2006)

The undertaker Eddie is seen attacking or digging up the grave of the enigmatic subject of the song, Benjamin Breeg. Ahead of the song's release in August 2006, a temporary website was launched detailing the mystery figure's hazy biography – the band themselves, however, have remained tight-lipped about Benjamin's exact identity and story.

Iron Maiden - 'A Matter of Life and Death' (2006)

In keeping with the 2006 album's recurring theme of war and religion, Eddie is depicted as a skeletal soldier (just like on '2 Minutes to Midnight' and 'The Trooper') driving a tank through a desolate, war-torn landscape with his comrades.

Iron Maiden Eddie Logo

The striking Eddie skull and machine gun logo soon became a merchandise favourite.

Iron Maiden - 'Different World' (2006)

Like a deranged, malevolent Atlas, Eddie has the world in his claws once again. The cover is yet another video still.

Iron Maiden - 'Somewhere Back in Time' (2008)

The Derek Riggs designed cover for the 2008 early career retrospective sees two of his finest Eddie creations combine in style – the laser gun wielding futuristic cyborg Eddie erupts volcano-like out of the Pharaoh Eddie monument. Brilliant.

Iron Maiden - 'El Dorado' (2010)

Given away as a free download ahead of the release of Maiden's 15th album 'The Final Frontier', graphic artist Anthony Dry showcased Melvyn Grant's upcoming new extra-terrestrial Eddie in a retro comic book form.

Iron Maiden - 'The Final Frontier' (2010)

Just when we thought we'd seen every manifestation of Eddie, artist Melvyn Grant concocted this glorious alien-like beast. This version of Eddie was highly divisive amongst fans due to its stark difference to previous incarnations – some even speculated that it wasn't the mascot at all. Steve Harris described this Eddie as "possibly the most outrageous one to date". He could have a point!

Iron Maiden - 'Satellite 15... The Final Frontier' (2010)

The second Anthony Dry realisation continued the comic book theme but depicted Eddie's head as a huge glowing orb.

Iron Maiden - 'From Fear to Eternity' (2011)

The two-decade spanning greatest hits collection is adorned with a Melvyn Grant painting that features three different Eddies from the 1990 to 2010 era – the grim reaper Eddie (2003's 'Dance of Death'), the tank driving army skeleton Eddie (2006's 'A Matter Of Life and Death') and the burning wicker man from the Brave New World single.

Iron Maiden - 'En Vivo!' (2012)

The gargantuan head of Grant's alien Eddie looms ominously over Estadio Nacional in Santiago, Chile on the front of Maiden's killer live album from 2012.

Iron Maiden - 'Maiden England ’88' (2013)

The 2013 reissue of the classic Iron Maiden live video ditched the motorbike-straddling, leather-clad classic Eddie on the original cover in favour of The Trooper era Eddie jumping through the air on horseback.

Iron Maiden - 'The Book of Souls' (2015)

Eddie gets a Mayan makeover for the stunning Mark Wilkinson designed artwork on 2015's The Book Of Souls.

Iron Maiden - The Legacy of the Beast

The Satanic Eddie unleashed for the 2018 Legacy of the Beast tour.

Iron Maiden - Nights Of The Dead, Legacy Of The Beast: Live In Mexico City (2020)

Iron Maiden's November 2020 live album 'Nights Of The Dead, Legacy Of The Beast: Live In Mexico City' features a fearsome Eddie wearing a Day of the Dead death mask.

Eddie the Head in 'The Writing On The Wall'

The fearsome samurai incarnation of Eddie the Head in Iron Maiden's 2021 video for new song 'The Writing On The Wall' . Wow!

Iron Maiden - 'Senjutsu'

Iron Maiden once again drafted in the services of Mark Wilkinson to create the spectacular Samurai themed cover artwork for September 2021's 'Senjutsu', based on an idea by Steve Harris.

Iron Maiden - The Future Past Tour

In October 2022, Iron Maiden announced their new concert tour, The Future Past Tour. Featuring material from their 2021 record 'Senjutsu' and seminal 1986 album 'Somewhere in Time', the tour artwork duly featured a hybrid Eddie from both the album covers - part Samurai Eddie and part cyborg Eddie.

We know fans want to hear those epic cuts on ‘Senjutsu’ for the first time live and we think that by combining it with an iconic album like ‘Somewhere In Time’ it will make for another really special tour for fans old and new!

“Of course, for a new album tour in Europe and the UK we will go back largely to the relative intimacy of arenas and we know fans will be very happy about that too!”

In a four-star review of ‘Senjutsu’, NME wrote that the album was an “instant classic in Iron Maiden’s 41-year journey”.

“The powerhouse metal sound that’s earned them a religious following in every far-flung corner of the globe remains firm. But here, they take things further; ultimately letting imaginations run wild in an album that’s more confident and idea-packed than ever before.”

Bruce Dickinson also talked about the Legacy Of The Beast World Tour 2022: “I’m really excited about the new additions to the stage production and we can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve got planned. The whole band has really enjoyed the Legacy tour and now we just can’t wait to get back out on the road to play live, have fun and see everyone again.”

The tour manager of the band added: “Next summer we will finally get to play the huge European stadium and festival tour for Legacy of the Beast originally set for 2020. The new show will be even more spectacular so after our visit to Rock in Rio in early September 2022, we have decided to take it back to our fans in North America and Mexico too, playing in cities or venues we did not get to last time we toured in 2019. We are also adding some of the great cities of eastern Europe we were not initially visiting!

We’ll be making a couple of additions and changes to the production and setlist to include some songs from our new album Senjutsu and are making the 2022 version of Legacy of the Beast even more spectacular than the acclaimed original show. You can be sure that we will still be featuring all the “hits” and the key elements of the original tour like the Spitfire, Icarus, Hell, flamethrowers and pyro, and the rest. But we will shake it up a bit and Trooper Eddie will have serious competition in the new Senjutsu ‘world’ we are adding…”

The term “legendary” gets thrown around in music a lot, so let’s say “legendary” refers to a band whose feats of music are so outlandish that, when recounted, they appear to be the stuff of mythology. By that definition, the English heavy metal band Iron Maiden truly is legendary.

The group has sold over 130 million albums worldwide with minimal support from the radio or mainstream media. Its music has gone silver, gold, and platinum over 600 times. It has won Grammys, Brit Awards, and countless other accolades. Iron Maiden played over 2,500 live shows, which are still regarded as some of the best out there.

Iron Maiden’s hard-hitting sound practically defined the genre of heavy metal and inspired bands like KISS, Metallica, and Avenged Sevenfold. Combine that with the band’s intelligent lyrics on topics like history, mythology, war, society, and literature, and it’s easy to understand why its appeal hasn’t faded.

Iron Maiden formed on Christmas Day of 1975. Bassist Steve Harris put together a short-lived original lineup, with only Harris and guitarist Dave Murray remaining in the band to the present day. By 1978, the rockers found vocalist Paul Di’Anno, whose raspy voice fit the group beautifully. Finding the right people occupied the group throughout the rest of the ’70s, and was a challenge for much of the band’s career, but it was by no means stagnant during this time.

Iron Maiden’s self-titled debut album dropped in 1980. It landed at number four on the UK Albums Chart and was lauded by journalists around the world. Iron Maiden included fan favorites like “Transylvania,” “Phantom of the Opera,” and “Running Free.” The group’s headline tour of the UK gained it devoted fans, as did its stints opening for Judas Priest and Kiss on tours. Its show at the Reading Festival in the UK 1980 drew 40,000 fans.

The band released Killers, its second studio album, in 1981. With better production and songs like “Murders in the Rue Morgue,” this album inspired decades of speed metal to come. Iron Maiden’s success launched a world tour that took it to the United States for the first time.

1981 saw the dismissal of Paul Di’Anno due to drug use and his replacement by Bruce Dickinson, who remains the lead singer today. Over the next ten years, the band’s eight subsequent albums like The Number of the Beast (1982), Piece of Mind (1983), and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (1988) are living testaments to the prolific creativity and work ethic of the group.

By the end of the ’80s, Iron Maiden was arguably the best metal band in history. Its live shows had progressed to unprecedented grandeur, with a 100,000-watt sound system and highly-innovative light shows. It toured with groups like Anthrax and headlined events like Roskilde Festival in Denmark.

Bruce Dickinson departed from the band on August 28, 1993, playing a final farewell concert to mark the occasion. It wasn’t until the turn of the millennium that he rejoined. The band’s next album, Brave New World, was a return-to-form with progressive elements and complex melodic work. Brave New World charted around the world and re-established Iron Maiden’s place at the top of the metal world.

The band continued releasing cutting-edge albums in the 2000s and 2010s, from 2002’s Rock in Rio to Senjutsu in 2021. The intervening decades have seen the band tour the globe extensively and take its infamous live shows to even greater heights. From stadiums to outdoor festivals and beyond, Iron Maiden is uniquely able to captivate tens of millions of fans, elevating its art to new levels while pushing the boundaries of what metal is and can be.

Catch the band in concert — it’s an experience you’ll never forget.

Live reviews

There is an intense debate that has split the Metal legions into two very vehement factions and that has lasted several decades now: Priest or Maiden? Some reasonable fans have managed to keep a level-headed, measured approach by saying both are great bands in their own right, blah blah blah... Fuck that. I like Judas Priest, they're pretty cool. But I'm a Maiden guy all the way. And over the last two nights I was reminded as to why.

The first night started auspiciously as I got into the venue a bit too late, but still not late enough to miss Bland Metal stalwarts Raven Age, a band so generic and faceless that makes you wonder why they are on so many big tours and festivals. Well, wonder no more: the guitarist is Steve Harris' son. Maiden have a habit of taking their offsprings' bands on the road with them, making the nepotism that's rampant in the Trump administration pale in comparison. They came, they played, and then went back to their hotel to play X-Box presumably.

After about 30 minutes, the ritual starts: UFO's Doctor, Doctor starts blaring on the PA and we know what's coming next: Maiden are about to come on. And sure enough, after Churchill's speech, they make the grandest entrance I've seen from any band. As a life-size spitfire replica hangs over them, they blaze into Aces High and the audients lose their collective and proverbial shit.

Over the course of the next 90 minutes or so, they play every major classic and some less obvious tracks, including some from the much-maligned Blaze Bailey era. The scenography is jaw-dropping: every song is illustrated by its own backdrop, and a lot of them feature cool props and theatrics that bring the songs to life and weave them into a coherent narrative in an exciting and clever way.

Now, because of my late arrival I wasn't able to secure a spot near the stage as I prefer, but the show is so huge and bombastic that it didn't matter much. Consequently the pictures in the following link are kind of shitty but they do give an accurate idea of the spectacle:

https://electriceyephoto.blogspot.com/2018/07/iron-maiden-accorhotels-arena-bercy.htm

Night two however was a different story. If the show was absolutely identical (save for the Bruce speeches that referenced the world cup and the Icarus icon that didn't work the first night) I managed to secure an early entry bracelet.

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/841/43250474861_8f380d36db_m.jpg

So I stood just a little left of center, second row in front of the stage.

Now the problem with the early entry is that I had a lot of time to kill so I used that time to re-read War and Peace. The ending still sucks.

That was the view of the venue when I entered:

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1787/42334569005_8cb868660e_c.jpg

And that was the view before Maiden:

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/844/43250593251_b1b5ecc646_c.jpg

Maybe it's because I was closer but Raven Age seems a little less annoying this time. The singer still looks like a total douche canoe, but the other guys were just kids having a blast and that made their performance somewhat endearing. I'm not going to buy their records anytime soon but I no longer wish them severe bodily harm.

https://electriceyephoto.blogspot.com/2018/07/the-raven-age-accorhotels-arena-bercy.html

I'll be 40 in less than two weeks (yikes) and I thought being up front at metal shows was behind me. Well, I guess not. I had a fucking blast, even with all the crazy hairy dudes sweating beer all over me. Maybe I secretly like it? God what a breakthrough!

As I said the show was identical but so much more intense from the second row... Bruce was his usual funny self, addressing the crowd in French throughout, nailing every note and committed to bringing every song to life. The man is a force of nature and the best frontman in metal.

https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aH1HhTGCK98/W0BigZQo58I/AAAAAAAAbsk/uwVM1O27Yl8ysiSMsoo_GIxU0zDdLOFFgCLcBGAs/s1600/Iron%2BMaiden06072018_15.jpg

Dave Murray always looks friendly and affable (and possibly a little inebriated) and plays really well.

https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kGjodHU0WrI/W0BiwyReb6I/AAAAAAAAbwc/uOEWuYYmlIgm3Hh0G7SlvIX4CEJAh7k7ACLcBGAs/s1600/Iron%2BMaiden06072018_205.jpg

Adrian Smith, to me, is the one with the coolest leads.

https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-03NRFsyfJi8/W0Bixab9diI/AAAAAAAAbwo/zB6G7H2ZQAwLBCsmH4dW9VtiL3_JZSXFQCLcBGAs/s1600/Iron%2BMaiden06072018_208.jpg

I know people dislike The Prancer and I get it. I happen to enjoy the fun he brings to the show. Jannick dancing around like a ballerina and barely playing his guitar is still more rock and roll than your average metal band member frowning and trying to look all dark and evil.

https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WejIISchM9Y/W0BjNtFdYBI/AAAAAAAAb3I/ATRvzQH8aQ8kevfmTWfDA1jIbzCmWRcogCLcBGAs/s1600/Iron%2BMaiden06072018_301.jpg

Nicko was barely visible, for some reason they hid his drum kit behind some sort of camouflage so his head would pop out every once in a while (well, his nose mostly, as it now takes up three quarters of his face). He did mess up a few things here and there on both nights but he and the band recovered seemlessly.

https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FDteQj_08bs/W0Bj1r-PA-I/AAAAAAAAb_w/LDc6gtFW8MctKZ_XZHGWI__WES4TvqbUgCLcBGAs/s1600/Iron%2BMaiden06072018_99.jpg

And Steve Harris of course is his usual intense, quiet self. Mouthing every word while playing those galloping bass lines, anchoring the whole operation, even gently mocking Bruce when he begins to ramble on for too long.

https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qWxW25uIvsU/W0BjRV4xonI/AAAAAAAAb34/1burESWjaTEUZqgtvb9WpWwi2pjFrPHtwCLcBGAs/s1600/Iron%2BMaiden06072018_312.jpg

That was Maiden concert number eight for me and I don't know how they'll ever top that. But if they want to try I'll be there for sure. Up the Irons!

https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VdU3aNJ_w9M/W0Bimu5-EfI/AAAAAAAAbuE/VwRfeANcMbAFyoSfEf_w5dXxBLH8EY7igCLcBGAs/s1600/Iron%2BMaiden06072018_171.jpg

A shitload more pics in the link below. Some are quite badass, if I may say so myself, but even they don't do the show justice. It's to be seen to be believed, but mostly it's to be heard. Sure, they could have played other classics, other hits, more obscure stuff. But that's the problem with having such a vast repertoire. The show is perfect how it is. The sequencing, the pacing, the visuals, the song selection... This is the best Maiden show and this is the best metal show. Even if you're a casual you will be awe struck and if you're already a fan no doubt you will leave the venue even more of a die-hard than when you entered.

It's hard for me to review a band like IRON MAIDEN? I've seen them 10 times now (first being in 1983) and they have never ever put on anything less than a spectacular show!! Granted the stage sets have gotten bigger (disregarding the low point for metal in the 90's) and since the return of the "classic" line up they have become, outside America sadly, a stadium filling touring monster (60,000 Brazilians can't be wrong)!!

Maiden have over the years become a musical Behemoth and with each new album the songs are becoming more complex and longer pushing both themselves as musicians and at times there fans tolerance to the limits (Book of souls clocking in at 92 minutes).

It was great to see the generations of fans at the show in Mansfield Ma. and not just 50 year olds like myself as parents brought their children to see the "MAIDEN MACHINE" crush everything in it's path that night!!

One of the best things about MAIDEN is that they still have fun after all these years! And it comes thru in their performances without a doubt. The band is also not content to sit back and ride a "greatest hits" set with ample songs from their newer efforts mixed in with the classics.

If, you don't like Metal nothing I say will make you like IRON MAIDEN but, for me personally every time I see them I still revert back to that 16 year old kid in 1983 who was just blown away the first time I witness them live!!

So ya there it is. MAIDEN are at the top of their game almost 40 years(!) into their career and destroying bands half their age live (and on record IMO).

If your not a fan of Heavy Metal (which is fine) your view will not be swayed by anything I or anyone else says about them. If your a Metalhead you know. UP THE IRONS!!!!!

Iron Maiden was my first concert ever and the experience was so amazing I've been hooked ever since! Their set list for the O2 in London was based on their previous 'Seventh Tour Of A Seventh Tour' in '88, which featured heavily songs from their 7th album, 'Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son' but also many of their greatest hits and most famous songs to really engage the audience. They sounded absolutely incredible and there was so much energy from Iron Maiden which was impressive especially due to the age of the band and the members.

Iron Maiden are famous for their breathtaking stage shows, and this show definitely did not disappoint. During the song, 'The Trooper' a towering Eddie appeared from under the stage dressed in the trooper's outfit, matching the outfit Bruce Dickinson had just changed into to perform this song. The authenticity and the detail of Eddie and the costumes were just outstanding and the crowds really reacted to all the pyrotechnics used throughout the show as well as reciting all of the lyrics to every single Iron Maiden song played. Everyone even shared a little giggle when Bruce tripped over while leaping across the steps at the back of the stage, recovering very smoothly by joining in with our laughter. The crowds had a huge age difference from what I saw but the reactions were all the same as they shared the common love for Iron Maiden. I truly believe the Iron Maiden are one of the best bands out there and the experience from their shows is like no other. Its an opportunity not to be missed.

Iron Maiden defy imagination. They are timeless is every sense of the word. After over forty years in existence, their reach continues to extend to all corners of the Earth. While most heavy metal bands from the 80’s have long since retired, or morphed into something completely unrecognizable, the guys who were responsible for classics like Piece of Mind, Powerslave, and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son are literally flying high on the momentum of a late career resurgence. The big news this weekend is about the reformation of Guns ‘N Roses. People are going to fork out thousands of dollars to see Axl Rose roll around in a wheelchair in the desert, while Slash tries to hide his hatred under a mane of curls. In the meantime, Bruce Dickinson will be piloting Iron Maiden’s personal 747 to another city. Ed Force One will be met, as it always is, by a sea of hysterical fans just trying to get a glimpse of the latest incarnation of the most iconic mascot in music. “The Book of Souls World Tour” isn’t a cash grab attempt by aging musicians. Instead, it’s just another opportunity for Iron Maiden to do what they have been doing for decades now; showcase some new material while celebrating their past. Laying waste to the planet, one arena at a time, is just a fortunate consequence of those actions. - See more at: http://ilistensoyoudonthaveto.com/2016/04/15/iron-maiden-pepsi-center-04-13-16/#sthash.gweeP1xK.dpuf

I've seen Iron Maiden four times prior to this show: 2007 'A Matter of Life and Death' tour (Earl's Court), 2011 'The Final Frontier' tour (O2 London), 2013 'Maiden England' tour (O2 London), and 2017 'Book of Souls' tour, and they just get better and better everytime. Last nights sold-out show at the O2 in London for the penultimate night of the 'Legacy of the Beast' tour was spectacular - when it opened with a life-sized moving WWII Spitfire you knew it was going to be something special! The production was next level; fantastic stage sets, larger-than-life Eddie's, fireworks, flames, lasers - even LAVA for goodness sake!

They may be at or around bus-pass and pension collecting age, but the six members of Iron Maiden perform on stage like men half their age. What their age really gives them is the experience and "seen it all" knowledge to put on a perfectly polished show with no hiccups or slip-ups (and nearly no fall-downs, eh Bruce!). This is a band and crew working at their absolute best and in perfect sync, and you need to see a show like this in a venue like the O2 arena just to appreciate the sheer scale of it.

Sadly, the tour comes to an end the following night, but if you ever get the chance, go see Iron Maiden perform - they really are one of the best live bands in the world.

This concert made me realise 3 things... One, why I stopped listening to them in 1984, two, how can this overblown choreographed pantomime still have an audience and three, at least half of the audience were my age and absolutely loved it. Why did they love it? God knows, or should I more accurately say, who the 'devil' knows (see what I did there) but judging by the amount of band t-shirts the merch guys do absolutely love it! The 'Eddie brand' has been stretched across every possible horror/supernatural/creature identity we know and IM are squeezing every last scare they can from it - I haven't seen 'axe' heroes posturing like this since the bad old days of 'hair metal'. Or wait a minute... am I the one that's wrong here... I just wasn't in on the joke. I was taking it too seriously. The other 17,000 or so people know it's stupid, generic, pompous heavy metal - that's the whole point. It's meant to be silly escapism. Of course, of course..... but that didn't stop it being absolute and utter garbage. If anyone ever suggests to me to go and see a band I last saw when I was 16 'it would be great - just like it used to be - well to use a rather apt phrase (one they didn't last night by the way) - RUN TO THE HILLS!!!

Iron Maiden is by far the band I have listened the most to and “been with” the longest since pre-teenager, and at least once a year, or more, I listen to every album – although some of the later albums takes some “approach” to get started. So, with that in mind:

I don't if I have outgrown their concerts - too much focus on stageshow and Bruce's theatrically – but I was a little bored. Sure, I couldn’t sit down in my seat when they played but nonetheless, a bit bored.

The stops after every song ruins the flow and energy, and the songs is basically performed as on the albums – and every other live tour. Give me some surprises, new interpretations – just some!

I would pay twice for less show and more music – just those fantastic musicians playing music, thanks!

The sound was OK in Royal that night, but needed a little clarity in the mid (especially) and high range. When given headroom in the solos, the guitars were fine. But besides knowing who played and how they played, I couldn’t by ear tell the difference from the strats and LP’s – that’s a good rule of thumb to me …

I still love Iron Maiden, sure, but I’m not sure that more concerts are on my list :-(

I had little expectations for the show beyond it being loud and energetic. They did not disappoint on my expectations. The show was fire, electric and theatrics. The Audience was heavily invested and sang along at every note, the enthusiasm was intense. My one issue with the show was with the sound from Bruce, lead Singer. I was unsure whether his voice was breaking or the mic was a problem because throughout the show, you could see him belting out his high notes but the mic did not pick it up or he was incapable of reaching the notes. age can do that to a person. I have a feeling it was all a technical issue, and it was that one problem which left me feeling that the show was not as good as it may have been in the past.

otherwise, I can say f you are a fan of Iron Maiden, you will enjoy the show, and if you are going to check out a loud, real loud band, then you will love it. Don't expect any lull n the music. it is loud and fast and thats what a great metal concert should be.

First of all, I'm a Maiden fan.

Despite that, it's sad to say the show wasn't good enough, at least for me due to two main reasons.

First, the sound was HORRIBLE, I couldn't hear the guitar solos, the bass and drums were cluttered, anyway, the sound in a whole was awful.

Second, even though I understand they are working the last album, they can't leave out the setlist timeless classics such, RUN TO THE HILLS, RUNNING FREE, ACES HIGH, TWO MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT just to name a few.

At last, I paid 90 dollars for my ticket ( HORRIBLE SEAT BTW ), in the day of the show they were selling the same ticket for 29 bucks, not fair, nonetheless, Iron Maiden will be in my heart forever.

Here it is the setlist:

If Eternity Should Fail

Speed of Light

Children of the Damned

Death or Glory

The Red and the Black

The Trooper

The Great Unknown

The Book of Souls

Fear of the Dark

Iron Maiden

The Number of the Beast

Blood Brothers

Wasted Years

Well, it was genuinely fantastic. I saw Maiden about 10 years ago and am not the most massive fan so am familiar with their old stuff, not so much the new. Given that a lot of the 80s bands are showing their age now, I wasn't expecting to be blown away. How wrong I was. Right off the bat, power, energy, blam! Straight into Aces High complete with a full size Spitfire swinging about overhead. Talk about an opening statement. This tour seems to be a greatest hits kind of thing rather than an extension of the Book of Souls Tour. All the bangers were in there, apart from Wasted Years which is a personal favourite. Eddie of course made an entrance during The Trooper. Every band member seemed to be having the time of their life and the most important factor, Bruce's voice, was right on point. Only criticism was that the show was a bit short at just under 2 hours but it flew by. Best show I've seen for a long time. Get a ticket if you can!

Iron Maiden Plan Beastly North American Tour for Fall 2022

By Kory Grow

On the heels of their 17th album, Senjutsu , Iron Maiden will return to North America next fall for another leg of their ongoing Legacy of the Beast World Tour. The band originally kicked off the trek, which featured sets consisting mostly of fan favorites, in 2019 but paused when the world went into Covid-19-related lockdowns. When the group returns, it will add songs from Senjutsu to the set.

The general ticket on-sale begins on Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. local time on Ticktmaster.com . A fan club presale will launch on Dec. 7, and one for Ticketmaster’s Verified Fans platform will begin the next day; both begin at 10 a.m. local time. Trivium will open all dates from El Paso to Spokane, while Within Temptation will open from Sioux Falls to Tampa. See tickets here .

“We’re really looking forward to our return to North America so we can bring the Legacy of the Beast show to places we didn’t get to in 2019 and to other cities we’ve not played for many years,” Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson said in a statement. “I’m really excited about the new additions and changes to the stage production, and we can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve got planned. The whole band has really enjoyed the Legacy Tour and now we just can’t wait to get back out on the road to play live, have fun and see everyone again!”

Earlier this year, Dickinson revealed to Rolling Stone that he had contracted Covid despite being double-vaccinated, and he encouraged his fans to get the shot. “It is a personal choice,” he said. “Personally, I think people are just very badly advised if they don’t go and get themselves double jabbed as quickly as possible, not for the reasons of going into concerts, but for their own health.”

Iron Maiden Unveil 2022 North American Tour Dates

Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden performing live.

Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden – Story by Anne Erickson, photo by Ken Settle

Iron Maiden’s fall 2022 North American tour has the band performing in many cities they haven’t visited in decades

Bruce Dickinson and Iron Maiden will make their way to North America next year, as the band has announced a lengthy roster of fall 2022 tour dates. The new round of stops has the legendary metal group hitting cities they haven’t been to for years, making this an even hotter ticket for Maiden fans.

The tour, dubbed the “Legacy of the Beast” tour, will feature the band performing new songs off their latest studio album, “Senjutsu,” as well as material spanning their career. “Senjutsu” was released in September of this year and debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart in the U.S., marking the band’s highest showing ever. Read Audio Ink Radio’s track-by-track review of the new Iron Maiden album here.

“Next summer we will finally get to play the huge European stadium tour for The Legacy Of The Beast,” Iron Maiden manager Rod Smallwood said in a statement, “and the new show will be even more spectacular so after our visit to Rock in Rio early September 2022 we decided to take it back to our fans in North America too, but in cities or venues we didn’t play in 2019, including some we haven’t visited in many years like El Paso, Spokane, Sioux Falls, Columbus, Hamilton, Ottawa and Greensboro.”

He continued, “We’ll be making a couple of additions and changes to the production and setlist to include some songs from our new album Senjutsu and are making the 2022 version of Legacy of the Beast even more spectacular than the acclaimed original show.” Smallwood also said the band “will be featuring all the ‘hits’ and the key elements of the original tour like the Spitfire, Icarus, Hell, flamethrowers and pyro and the rest – but we will shake it up a bit and Trooper Eddie will have serious competition in the new ‘Senjutsu’ ‘world’ we are adding.”

Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson says he’s thrilled to be returning to the states, commenting, “We’re really looking forward to our return to North America so we can bring ‘The Legacy of the Beast’ show to places we didn’t get to in 2019 and to other cities we’ve not played for many years. I’m really excited about the new additions and changes to the stage production and we can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve got planned. The whole band has really enjoyed the Legacy Tour and now we just can’t wait get back out on the road to play live, have fun and see everyone again!”

For support, Iron Maiden has tapped modern metal band Trivium to open on all shows between the Sept. 11 El Paso tour opener and Spokane show on Sept. 30. Following the latter gig, Within Temptation will open for the rest of the October dates. View the full roster of Iron Maiden 2022 tour dates below.

Tickets for the tour go on sale to the general public beginning at 10 a.m. local time Friday, Dec. 10. Fans may also sign up for first access to tickets with Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan platform from now through 10 p.m. on Dec. 5. For more information, visit Iron Maiden’s website .
