4 Days in Jordan: Efficient Itinerary for Short Stay

This short 4-day Jordan itinerary will guide you on how to see must-visit places like Amman, Petra, Wadi Rum, and the Dead Sea with very limited time. To make the most of this custom itinerary, consider practical tips such as getting a Jordan Pass to save on entry fees and choosing efficient transportation options like renting a car or taking a tour.

From exploring the historic Citadel in Amman to experiencing the magical landscapes of Wadi Rum, this article offers a detailed guide for maximizing your short yet unforgettable trip in Jordan. It ensures a smooth and memorable experience, making it accessible and enjoyable for all travelers.

Visa and Arrival

Most visitors require a visa on arrival when entering Jordan. The fee for a single-entry visa is 40 JD (about 56 USD) and you can get it in all the airports of Jordan.

If you are staying a minimum of 3 nights and 4 days in Jordan, it might be beneficial to buy the Jordan Pass before arrival which will waive your visa fee. The Jordan Pass can be used in over 40 attractions and museums including Petra. There are 3 packages offered with Jordan Pass providing different options. The cheapest package starts at 70 JD and offers 1-day entry to Petra, plus entry to an additional 40 sites and attractions.

If you staying only 4 days in Jordan and planning to go to Petra, it is cheaper to get the Jordan Pass instead of paying for the visa and entrance to Petra separately. Currently, a day entrance fee to Petra costs 50 JD. Together with the visa fee (40 JD), it will cost you 20 JD more compared to Jordan Pass.

Having a tea in Bedouin Camp in Wadi Rum

Transportation in Jordan

The cheapest option to get around Jordan is by public transportation. There are public buses called JETT leaving once or twice a day and connecting major cities in Jordan. However, if you are staying only 4 days in Jordan, using public transportation will limit you a lot and you won’t be able to see many things and make good use of your time. The best option in terms of efficiency is either renting a car or taking a tour.

Jordan is relatively safe for driving especially outside of the busy streets of Amman. To be able to rent a car you need to be a minimum of 25 years old and hold a valid driver’s license for at least a year. The rental price depends on the time of the year and the duration of the rental. During the low season, a 4-day car rental will cost you a minimum of 54 JD (77 USD). It is cheaper to pick up and return the rented car from the same location. In this 4-day itinerary, you will start and finish your trip in Amman, the capital of Jordan.

Petra to Wadi Rum Transportation

4 Days in Jordan Itinerary

Day 1: arrival in amman & petra.

All the main attractions in Amman are concentrated in the city center within walking distance.

Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) is located about 35 kilometers south of Amman. If you take a taxi, it will take about 35-50 minutes depending on the traffic to get to the city center and costs about 22 JD. If you are planning on renting a car for a short 4-day road trip in Jordan, you can rent one on arrival directly at the airport.

Start your day by exploring the historic Citadel, perched on a hill offering panoramic views of the city. Visit the Roman Theater, an ancient amphitheater dating back to the 2nd century, and then wander through the vibrant streets of downtown Amman, known for its bustling markets and traditional handicraft shops. Enjoy a delicious Jordanian meal at one of the local restaurants, and try local specialties like Mansaf or Falafel.

Amma Citadel

You can find more information on things to do in Amman on my dedicated post on how to spend one day in Amman .

In the late afternoon head towards Wadi Musa, where the ancient city of Petra is located. It will take you about 3 hours to arrive in Wadi Musa. If you arrive before 20:00 o’clock and check in to your hotel, you might have a chance to visit Petra by night. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday Petra gets illuminated by 1500 candles and turns into a real fairytale.

Day 2: Petra & Wadi Rum

If you want to enjoy Petra with fewer crowds and more comfortable temperatures, I highly recommend going to Petra very early in the morning. Petra is huge and it will require you to walk long distances to see all the main structures of this archeological site.

There are several hiking trails in Petra , with varying duration and requiring different fitness levels. Most visitors opt for the shortest and easiest hike via the Siq trail to the Treasury, but in my opinion, this is the most crowded hike and you will see only 1/10th of what Petra has to offer. You should at least get to the Monastery either via the Ad-Deir Trail or Back Door Entrance Trail . On these trails you will see most of the structures and buildings of Petra and of course the magnificent Monastery.

There are two main entrances to Petra: Entrance 1 : main entrance via the Visitor Center in Wadi Musa Entrance 2 : back door entrance from Little Petra

Petra Monastery

In the late afternoon after visiting Petra, head towards Wadi Rum Visitor Center. The ride will take about 2 hours depending on traffic.  More information for further reading: How to get from Petra to Wadi Rum

Rental cars are not allowed in the Wadi Rum Protected Area. You will have to leave your car at the Wadi Rum Visitor Center and take a 4×4 Jeep with a guide to your camp in the desert or take a tour.

Wadi Rum desert is the most beautiful during sunset and sunrise. Try to get there before the sunset and take a short tour to the best location near your accommodation to watch the sunset.

There are so many things to do in Wadi Rum , but if you are staying in Jordan for only 4 days, then you will not be able to see much. Nevertheless, you will still be able to get the first unforgettable impression of this moon-like landscape and hopefully return one day to explore it more.

Good to Know

  • Book your 4×4 tour in advance with your Wadi Rum camp.
  • Book your sunset camel ride in advance with local Beduins. Your camp manager can help with it.
  • Take warm clothes. It can get quite cold at night in the desert.

Jumping in Wadi Rum

Save time with an affordable tour featuring Petra, Wadi Rum, and Dead Sea. Check out this 3-Day Classic Tour with a perfect ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ rating.

Day 3: Wadi Rum & Dead Sea

Get ready for day 3 in Jordan, full of adventures. Be prepared to start your day very early before sunrise when it is still dark. Take a special camel tour to catch one of the most beautiful sunrises in your life. The caravan will be waiting for you at your campsite one hour before sunrise.

Enjoy a peaceful camel ride across the desert as the sun rises. The tour usually takes about 2 hours. So you will be back to your accommodation pretty early and still have the entire day ahead.

A group of camels Wadi Rum desert in sunrise

After having your breakfast and checking out, drive to the Dead Sea. If your flight the next day is not too early, you can stay overnight in one of the luxury resorts at the Dead Sea. It will take you about 4 hours to get there by car from Wadi Rum desert.

Most of the Dead Sea resorts have their own private beach and a shuttle to take you to the beach. After check-in, catch the last sunny hour and go floating on the dead sea.

Dead Sea Jordan Panorama

Day 4: Amman Departure

Start your last day in Jordan by enjoying aromatic and spicy Arabic coffee or tea and a typical Arabic breakfast with hummus. If you have enough time before your flight, buy some souvenirs such as a Dead Sea mask or some yummy Dates. Head toward the airport to catch your flight.

4 days in Jordan is not enough to explore this beautiful country but it is enough to see the main highlights such as Amman, Petra, Wadi Rum, and the Dead Sea. This is only possible if you book everything in advance and plan carefully. Although it will be a fast-paced short trip, your stay in Jordan will be unforgettable and you will want to come back. Site Highlights

Petra - The Pink City

Petra, the capital of the Nabataean Arabs is one of the most renowned archaeological sites in the world that is located 240 km south of the capital Amman and 120 km north of the Red Sea town of Aqaba . Petra is also one among the wonders of the world and hence is the most valuable treasure and ultimate tourist spot in Jordan. There is no precise information when Petra was built but it is known that the city began to prosper as the capital of the Nabataean Empire from the 1st century BC that grew rich through trade in frankincense, myrrh, and spices

Wadi Rum – The Valley of the Moon

Wadi Rum is a valley that is cut into the sandstone and granite rock in southern Jordan 60 km to the east of Aqaba. It is the largest Wadi in Jordan. The term ‘Rum’ originates from an Aramaic root that means ‘high’ or ‘elevated’.

The Dead Sea

The Dead Sea is located in the Jordan Valley which is a part of the Great Rift Valley that runs from East Africa to Turkey. The Dead Sea is the remains of a giant inland lake named Lake Lisan which was 200 kilometers long and about 200 meters deeper than that of the current level of the Dead Sea. As the Lake Lisan contracted, Lake Tiberias and the Dead Sea were left behind which are at 408 meters below sea level (and is the lowest point on the earth).

The sea contains about 20% of salt which is eight times the level of the world’s oceans. And this concentration contributes to the amazing buoyancy of the water and is a legacy of years of evaporation. The only life forms available in the Dead Sea are the eleven species of bacteria. As the water is rich in minerals, including calcium, magnesium, bromine, iodine, and bitumen, it provides various healing properties that help in alleviating or easing allergies, skin rashes, bronchial irritations or glandular conditions. Tourists from all over the world come here to ease or cure their conditions at the medical treatment centers at the Dead Sea. And even people who feel stressed and bored can enjoy the high quality spas in the area. Due to the depth of this location the climate and quality of sunshine in the Dead Sea area is highly beneficial and the salts and mud of Dead are well known for their beneficial properties.

Jerash - Gerasa

One of the best preserved Roman era cities in the world, Jerash is located 40 kilometers towards north of Amman. Even today visitors can trace the chariot ruts on the Cardo! Besides that one can admire the mosaics laid contemporaneously to those found in Madaba as well as test the acoustics of the North and South Theatres. Jerash came into fame as one of the largest cities in the Decapolis Federation.

Al Karak Castle

Al Karak castle is an enormous Crusader castle that appears about 1000 meters above the Dead Sea valley and is a strategic link in the vital communication and protection system of castles that spread from Aqaba to Turkey. Karak was on the trading route between Egypt and Syria during the Biblical times which later the advantages of the location was recognized by the civilizations. Enjoy the sandwiched historical values of the castle.

An elevated ridge in Jordan, Mount Nebo is approximately 710 meters i.e. 2,330 feet above sea level. It is also mentioned in the Hebrew Bible as the place where Moses was granted a view of Promised Land. From the peak of Mount Nebo you can get a panoramic view of the Holy Land and one of the valleys of the River Jordan to the north. When the days are clear one can also view the West Bank city of Jericho as well as Jerusalem from the summit.

Take a 4×4 tour in tiny pickup trucks Mad Max style, scrambling through the desert sands between immense and unique rock formations. Stay the night in a Bedouin camp to sleep under the stars as a desert nomad (Learn More in “ How to Tour Wadi Rum and the Bedouin Camps of Jordan in 24 Hours ”)

Day 4: Return to Amman

Wake to the red rocks of the Wadi Rum desert set afire by the morning sunrise.  Take a taxi to Aqaba to take the 11 AM JETT bus back to Amman. Fly to your next country (in the Middle East) to keep your 10 days to live going….. (Learn more about getting from Wadi Rum to Amman in “ How to Tour Wadi Rum ”)

Jordan Itinerary | 5 days

If you have one additional day in the Middle East to spare, make your Jordan itinerary 5 days long (and a little more perfect) by adding in a visit to the Dead Sea or adding an extra day in Aqaba for diving and snorkeling in the Red Sea

Visiting the Dead Sea | Jordan Side

Though you could visit the Dead Sea from Israel, visiting in Jordan will be a much cheaper and simpler option. The 45 minute ride will cost 25-30 JD by taxi or Uber and 7 JD via JETT bus from the main JETT bus station

If you want a quick and convenient option, consider booking a day trip to the Dead Sea from Amman ( click here to check out details of the half day Dead Sea experience )

Experiencing the Red Sea

If you prefer a water experience with a little more life (literally), consider spending the extra day in Aqaba snorkeling, freediving, or SCUBA diving. The Red Sea is one of the top dive sites in the world and most of the underwater attractions are within snorkeling and freediving depth making it a rich aquatic experience for anyone. For this option, just show up and drop into a dive shop to see what tours are available (for the best optons and prices)

If you can’t decide which to do, check out this option for squeezing both the Dead Sea and the Red Sea into a single day , that 5th day on your itinerary.

A little motivation to travel Jordan…

DEPARTURES|SEASON ONE | Ep. 2

Where should you travel after jordan.

To fully “taste” the Middle East and its varied cultures, I believe a traveler should experience Lebanon, Israel, Egypt, and Turkey in addition to a Jordan itinerary of the country’s highlights.

Egypt | The Perfect 4 Days in Jordan (Itinerary)

Turkey is absolutely its own 10 day adventure, but Lebanon , Israel, and Egypt should absolutely be in the same trip as Jordan

jordan tour 4 days

For more info, see 10 Days to Live In the Middle East: Jordan, Lebanon, Israel, and Egypt

And absolutely put Turkey on your list for another adventure

Other Sights to Visit in Jordan

The red sea & diving.

Via Aqaba, after visiting Wadi Rum, consider the option of staying and experiencing the warm waters of the Red Sea for much cheaper than the price of Eilat in Israel.  Cheap, world-class SCUBA diving abounds in Aqaba with coral reefs and colorful fish.  If you dive, consider staying longer in Aqaba

The Dead Sea

The lowest point on earth filled with a sea so salty that you just can’t sink.  Though the Dead Sea is accessible via a day trip, the public beaches are less than great.  If the Dead Sea is on your bucketlist, consider staying in a resort on the Jordanian Dead Sea shore to get access to better beaches and facilities or see the sea from the Israeli side on a day trip, which has mch better public beaches.

A city north of Amman and known for Greco-Roman ruins

What to See (Prioritized…Just in case you’re running short on time)

  • Amman (briefly)
  • Optional: Red Sea
  • Optional: Dead Sea

What to Eat in Amman,  Jordan

Your Jordan itinerary is set, but what should you eat?  That is the important question.

jordan tour 4 days

In all of the Middle Eastern countries I’ve been in (Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait, Iraq…) the food experiences have been some of the most enjoyable and memorable.  To round out your visit to Jordan, be sure to taste all of these dishes and sweets before leaving.  Some (like Mansaf) are unique to Jordan while others (like Knafeh) are simply done with a flair, style, or presentation that other countries don’t do.  In any case, they’re all tasty, so enjoy.

Jordanian Dishes

  • Mansaf ( The National Dish of Jordan): A uni quely Jordanian dish of lamb cooked in and served with a yogurt sauce and on a bed of rice or Bulgar.  Al-Quds restaurant (Jeursalem restaurant in English) in Amman is the best and most convenient place to try this dish.
  • Kufta (Kabobs): Minced lamb, beef, or a combination with quintessentially Arab seasoning, wrapped around a steel rod and grilled over an open, wood fired flame.  If you’re any kind of carnivore, you’ll love this dish.  Served with fresh bread (“Khubiz” in Arabic) and veggies.  Cheap yet tasty…and addictive.
  • Hummus and Pita: Ubiquitous throughout the Middle East but still tasty in its homeland.  Each country and region does hummus with their own touch (e.g., more garlic, smoother, heavier on the olive oil) and varies their bread a bit, so this is worth trying wherever you go.  If you have a sensitive stomach, stay away from meat in Jordan and make Hummus and Pita bread your default.  Best tried at Hashem Restaurant . The restaurant is well priced, and is literally good enough for royalty (as the royal family has eaten there).
  • Kibbeh: A dish made of crushed bulgur, minced onions, and finely ground meat (lamb, beef, goat, or camel), shaped into footballs (American style) and fried.  Delicious and filling
  • Tabouleh: “Middle Eastern salad”.  A mixed of finely sliced vegetables, eaten by the spoonful or as lettuce wraps.
  • Falafel (Chick Pea or Fava Beans): Mashed and fried balls or patties of chickpeas, fava beans, or a combination of the two with some amazing spices.  Eaten solo or on a pita.  If you have a sensitive stomach and are avoiding meat, this is an excellent option.
  • Babaghanoush: Roasted eggplant which is then blended into a smooth, delicious treat.  Eaten solo or with pita.  Even if you’ve tried this at home, be sure to try it in Amman.  The art of roasting the eggplant so that the skin smokes the inner contents is something that eludes most non-Middle Eastern chefs, and makes a difference. Experience the real deal here.

Jordanian Desserts

jordan tour 4 days

  • Knafeh: A delicious “cheese pie” dessert.  Normally I’m good with the foodie stuff, but all I can say is that this stuff is addictive and difficult to describe.  Two layers of fine dough with a layer of cheese in between, incorporating pistachios, rose water, almonds, and other tasties along the way.  Try it early in your trip so you can enjoy the addiction throughout your trip.
  • Baklava : A notorious desert from the Middle East of layers of fine pastry dough drenched in a sugary syrup.  You’ve likely had good, authentic baklava at home.  The difference between Baklava at home and in Jordan is that it is everywhere in Jordan and relatively cheap, thus tempting you at every city block.

Local Drinks

  • Turkish coffee: Available for less than $1 USD every 10 feet.  If you haven’t tried it, try it at least once.

jordan tour 4 days

  • Turkish tea (with Mint): Delicious and likely served after every meal.  Turkish tea, like the coffee, is concentrated tea drenched in sugar and served with a sprig of mint – and is oddly delicious.  Give in to the diabetes risk and try it at least once.

With Petra, Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea, and the Red Sea being the main sights to see in Israel, tour providers serve all destinations, independently or on multi-day tours visiting them all.  As always, I advise to be a little adventurous and explore each place independently, embracing the adventure of travel – but anyway that gets you to these sights is the perfect option.

Amman to Petra Tours

Amman to wadi rum tours, amman to the dead sea tours, multi day & destination tours from amman, jordan tours from israel.

For travelers on the Israeli side of the border and interested in exploring Petra, or Wadi Rum from Tel Aviv or from Jerusalem , there are several great Jordan tours available to book in advance.

For backpackers and hostelers, Abraham’s Hostels in Tel Aviv and Abraham’s Hostels-Jerusalem offer great accommodation in conjunction with some great Jordan tours as well as tours to the West Bank, the Dead Sea (Israeli side), and the Red Sea (via Eilat).

If you want to quickly and easily see the best of Jordan from Israel, Abrahams Hostels offer a Tel Aviv to Petra tour, Jerusalem to Petra tour and mult-day tours from Tel Aviv including Wadi Rum and Petra .

As I’ve said before, I prefer not to do tours because the independent travel experience is more fulfilling , but all of the travelers I spoke with that went on the tours enjoyed them very much.  And any way that gets you traveling is a good way to travel.

Traveling Between Cities in Jordan

The JETT Bus will be your primary, cheapest, and most comfortable transportation option for getting around Jordan, with service between Amman, Petra, and Aqaba.

Shared taxis and shuttles are an additional, more costly option and will be the cheapest yet most comfortable mode of transportation into Wadi Rum from Amman and Petra.

Local buses will be the cheapest option for everything from getting to the airport, to Aqaba, to the “hitchhiking point” on the way to Wadi

Check our guides for Amman , Petra , and Wadi Rum for information on traveling between cities.

Getting around in Amman

Uberis your cheapest and most reliable option for getting around Amman, so have the app loaded on your phone.  When ordering rides, do the drivers a favor and select to pay with cash as money is generally tight for most Uber drivers in Amman.

Accommodation in Jordan

Jordan doesn’t have a very developed hostel scene, so though hostels are present plan on them being more comparable to shared budget hotels.  Costs throughout Jordan will be rather high, on par with expenses in Europe.  Check the guides for Amman , Petra , and Wadi Rum for accommodation recommendations in each destination.

Weather in Jordan

Generally, the summer months of June to September in Amman, Jordan are quite hot (~87° – 90°), and in the rest of the country temperatures tend to be more extreme.  Outside of those months the weather fluctuates between pleasant and cool.  If you plan to be in Amman anytime from November to April, pack to stay warm as the deserts can get cool at night.

Curious what the weather in Amman is like right now?  Ask Google what is this week’s weather in Amman, Jordan?

Is Jordan Expensive?

Many travelers ask, “Is Jordan expensive?” The answer: Absolutely.  Jordan’s prices for basic services are comparable to or higher than those you’ll see in western Europe despite the fact that Jordan’s tourism scene isn’t nearly as developed or “comfy”, especially for backpackers.

Keep in mind that the majority of your expenses traveling and exploring will be for fees, for visas (see below), or entrance to sites.  For traveling Petra alone, the cost of entry is 50JD ($71 USD) for a single day entry (See more info on “ How to Travel to Petra Independently ”).

In the deserts of Wadi Rum , accommodation can be fairly cheap (10 JOD / $15 USD) but meals will run 10 JOD ($15 USD) per meal , in addition to tours.  Being in the desert, there aren’t any budget alternatives for the experience. (See more info on “ How to Wadi Rum and the Bedouin Camps of Jordan ”)

So, is Jordan expensive?  If you see the major sights, such as Petra and Wadi Rum, the experience will absolutely be expensive…and you shouldn’t leave without seeing those two sights, so plan on paying. Plan on a budget between $75 and $100 per day at least to be on the safe side.  If you are running on a tight budget be sure to calculate your expenses in advance, including accommodation, food, transportation, entrance fees, visa, and incidentals as your budget will disappear very quickly.

Jordan Visa Info

Single Entry visas to Jordan are available on arrival and valid for one month for 40 JOD (approximately $56 USD)

“The Jordanian Government has waived visa fees for all non-restricted nationalities coming through Jordanian tour operators whether travelling individually or in groups. The visa fee is waived on the condition that the traveler/travelers spend a minimum of two consecutive nights in Jordan.” (From the Jordanian Tourism Board )

Tips for Visiting Amman, Jordan

Get the jordan pass .

Getting the Jordan Pass was a mistake I made, missing out on quite a bit of savings.

What is the Jordan Pass?

The Jordan Pass is a 70JD pass that must be purchased at least 4 days before traveling and waives the 40JD Jordanian visa fee , allows free entrance to Petra (50JD), free entrance to Wadi Rum (5JD), and several other museums and archeological sites.

Staying Safe in Jordan

Petty crime and nonviolent crime are nearly unheard of in Amman and the larger cities of Jordan as the police force is quite vigilant but women should take care traveling through the city alone during the darker hours and onto side roads.

I advise female travelers to have a polite, candid discussion with their hotel and hostel staff in Amman(ensuring the staff member is an Amman local) to get the most up to date and information about traveling through Amman as a female.  Female staff at the better hostels (such as Nomad’s Hotel and Hostel, which I recommend) will be young, speak very good English, and be familiar with western culture enough to have a straightforward useful conversation about solo female travel in the city.  Specifically ask about recommendations for how to proceed (as a female traveler) going to the overnight Bedouin Camps in Wadi Rum, and try to pair up with another female traveler for the experience, if possible.

All US travelers should register with the US State Department’s STEP Program before traveling.  Being registered in this system, with your itinerary and contact information, will allow them to notify you in case of an emergency.

Additionally, check the US State Department’s Jordan Travel website for safety and security recommendations, paying attention to travel advisories for Jordan , and any regions to avoid.

Below the Surface: Things to Note in Jordan – An average Jordanian’s thoughts on Syrian Refugees

On the 45 minute Uber right from the airport into Amman, I had a great conversation with my driver.  From the situation of Islam in the region, to the economy in Jordan and the security situation, we chatted about everything.  The most interesting thing to come up though, was the war in Syria, the situation with the refugees, and the average Jordanian’s stance on the issue.  The conversation had me thinking about how we, in the West, react to our neighbors, what we believe our responsibilities are, and the timelines we think of in terms of foreign policy.  Regardless of your political beliefs, these are interesting points to consider not only when asking, “what is right” but also in asking, “how do we design the society we want the next generation to live in?”  The goal of this site isn’t to argue political beliefs.  One of the many goals of this site is to get you thinking about new perspectives on age old situations.  As best as I can remember it, here’s the paraphrasing from my driver.

“Yes, you’ll see a lot of Syrians here.  We see it as our responsibility to take care of them and look after them. After all, they’re our brothers and sisters.  If you look far enough back, then at some point our tribes connect, making them family…and it wouldn’t be right to turn our backs on family.  Before there were borders here, we likely shared the land too, which is another reason that we should help them.  We all have food to eat, which means its only right to share food.  We have the same goals in life, to live peacefully, so allowing them to live peacefully with us and keep them safe until they can return home.”

At this point, I asked whether there is a plan to grant citizenship, passports, or rights to stay to the refugees from war-torn countries.

“No, they have their homes. If we give them rights to Jordan [via Passports, citizenship] then bythat logic they won’t have rights to their homeland, in Syria.  We would be doing them and ourselves a disservice.  Our responsibility is onlyto keep them safe and share our food until they can return home.  At that point, it is their responsibility to rebuild their homeland.  We will look after them as family, but this is not their home.”

Granted, this is the perspective of a single Jordanian…but it was an interesting one.  I encourage you to seek out your own perspectives…and share them with me when you do.

Love the comment about a local's take on Syria. I found friendliness all over Jordan and feel that that is ingrained deep into their culture. Whether refugees or tourists, they really mean it when they say "welcome."

Petra was established over 2000 years ago along the old trade routes between Arabia, Egypt, and the Mediterranean Sea. As a hub for commerce, Petra became rich and influential in the region. Site Highlights

Petra (Pink City Of Petra)

The city of Petra, capital of the Nabataean Arabs, is one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world, it is Located 240 km south of the capital Amman and 120 km north of the red sea town of Aqaba, Petra the world wonder is undoubtedly Jordan s most valuable treasure and greatest tourist attraction, and it is visited by tourists from all over the world.

It is not known precisely when Petra was built, but the city began to prosper as the capital of the Nabataean Empire from the 1st century BC, which grew rich through trade in frankincense, myrrh, and spices.

Wadi Rum also known as The Valley of the Moon is a valley cut into the sandstone and granite rock in southern Jordan 60 km (37 mi) to the east of Aqaba; it is the largest wadi in Jordan. The name Rum most likely comes from an Aramaic root meaning high or elevated .To reflect its proper Arabic pronunciation, archaeologists transcribe it as Wadi Ramm .

  • The Dead Sea

Located in the Jordan Valley, part of the Great Rift Valley that runs from East Africa to Turkey, the Dead Sea is the remains of a giant inland lake. Lake Lisan was 200 kilometers long and approximately 200 meters deeper than the current level of the Dead Sea. As it contracted, it left Lake Tiberias and the Dead Sea, which at 408 meters below sea level is the lowest point on earth.

The salt content of the sea is 20%, eight times the level of the world s oceans. This concentration contributes to the amazing buoyancy of the water and is a legacy of years of evaporation. The only life forms left in the Dead Sea are eleven species of bacteria. The waters are rich in minerals, including calcium, magnesium, bromine, iodine, and bitumen. All these have healing properties that can alleviate or ease allergies, skin rashes, bronchial irritations or glandular conditions. Visitors come from all over the world to ease or cure their conditions at the medical treatment centers at the Dead Sea. Even those suffering only from ennui can enjoy the high-quality spas in the area. In addition, due the unique depth of its location, the climate and quality of sunshine in the Dead Sea area is beneficial. Dead Sea salts and mud are known worldwide for their healthful properties.

  • Jerash - Gerasa

Jerash is one of the best-preserved Roman-era cities in the world. Located only 40 kilometers north of Amman, visitors today can trace the chariot ruts on the Cardo, admire the mosaics which were laid contemporaneously to those found in Madaba, and test the acoustics of the North and South Theatres. Inhabited since Neolithic times, Jerash came of age when Pompey swept through the region in 63 BC Jerash became one of the largest cities in the Decapolis federation.

Al Karak Castle

The enormous Crusader castle of Karak looms about 1000 meters above the Dead Sea Valley, a strategic link in the vital communication and protection system of castles that spread from Aqaba to Turkey. Karak was on the trading route between Egypt and Syria during biblical times, and later civilizations also recognized the advantages of the location.

The castle has known happiness, but it has also known cruelty. Modern visitors will enjoy the spectacular views and the sandwiched layers of history.

Mount Nebo is an elevated ridge in Jordan, approximately 710 metres (2,330 ft) above sea level, mentioned in the Hebrew Bible as the place where Moses was granted a view of the Promised Land. The view from the summit provides a panorama of the Holy Land and, to the north, a more limited one of the valley of the River Jordan. The West Bank city of Jericho is usually visible from the summit, as is Jerusalem on a very clear day.

  • Ajloun Castle

Ajloun Castle is one of the greatest examples of Islamic Ayyubid military architecture. The first stage of construction began ca.1184 by General Izzidin Usama, nephew of Salahuddin AL Ayyoubi, who built it on a hill 1100 meters above sea level.

24 Hours Layover

The Perfect 4 Days In Jordan Itinerary

By: Author Catrina

Posted on Last updated: March 23, 2024

Categories JORDAN , MIDDLE EAST

If you’re looking to see the best of Jordan, including Petra, The Dead Sea, Wadi Rum, Amman and Aqaba in a short amount of time, follow this 4 days itinerary as there’s a lot to fit in!

Jordan is the ideal country for adventurous travellers to visit. It’s full of culture, history, and incredibly beautiful places to see such as The Dead Sea – famous for its healing properties, The Ancient City of Petra, and the stunning Wadi Rum desert with its unique rock formations and eerie landscape.

It’s honestly one of the most impressive countries I’ve ever been to – as someone who loves photography, Jordan is full of great photo spots , plus the people here are so friendly.

This detailed 4 day Jordan itinerary will help you maximise your short time in Jordan, and ensure you have a great time!

Things To Know Before You Visit Jordan

Let’s get the boring stuff out the way – here’s the important stuff to know before you head to Jordan:

When Is The Best Time To Visit Jordan?

The best time to visit Jordan is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). During these seasons, the weather is mild and comfortable for outdoor activities.

The winter months of December to February can also be a good time to visit as the winters in Jordan are mild.

If you visit during the summer months of June to August, it’s going to be very hot, humid and uncomfortable. Remember that Jordan is located in The Middle East and has a dry desert climate, so summer is best avoided.

Visa Requirements For Jordan

Jordan offers visa on arrival to citizens of most countries, however always check the specific visa requirements for your country beforehand to be sure!

The visa on arrival in Jordan is 40JD – however I recommend buying the Jordan Pass before you enter Jordan as then your visa fees are waived.

Plus with the Jordan Pass you get free entry into over 40 tourist attractions in Jordan – including Petra (which on it’s own would cost 50JD entry), so you definitely save a lot of money! The cheapest pass – The Jordan Wanderer (70JD) is fine.

Is Jordan Safe?

Jordan is not only one of the best countries to visit in The Middle East , but it is one of the safest.

Regardless, just as when you visit any country, you should take precautions. Look after your belongings as well as be aware of people trying to rip you off.

Remember that Jordan is a conservative Muslim country, and females should dress conservatively, covering their shoulders and knees to respect local culture and avoid any unwanted attention.

Best Way To Get Around Jordan

The best way to get around Jordan is to either hire a car yourself and visit independently, or hire a driver to take you round. Public transport around Jordan is very difficult and far too time consuming so you’ll want to avoid that.

Note if you want to hire a car yourself, you’ll need to be at least 25 years old and have held a valid drivers licence for at least one year.

Driving around Jordan is fairly easy as the roads are pretty good and not too busy. Apart from when you get to Amman. The traffic is insane in Amman and personally I wouldn’t want to drive there.

I have been to Jordan twice now, both times with my tour guide/driver (and now friend) called Mohamed who’s been running tours for almost 10 years now.

Personally, as I was only in Jordan for 4 days and the itinerary was pretty packed, I preferred someone else to do the driving so I could rest in between the sightseeing!  Jordan is a small country, but there is a lot of driving involved!

the siq Petra photography Jordan instagrammable places

If you’re looking for a guide I definitely recommend you book Mohamed to travel around Jordan if you don’t want to visit alone, you want to get a true local experience, or you just want someone else to do the driving.

I have recommended him to several friends and family members who all had great things to say about him once they did a trip with him. He’s professional, has a great sense of humour, has perfect English and drives safely.

I am not normally someone who ever books trips with a guide, but his prices are very reasonable and he gave me so many tips and local knowledge that I was so glad I used him.

Drop me a comment below or send me a message and I’ll pass his number onto you.

Day 1: Dead Sea

Arrive at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, pick up your rental car or your driver from here. and then head straight for the northern part of The Dead Sea!

It’s roughly an hours drive from the airport. The Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth so it is hot here!

The Jordanian side of The Dead Sea is quite different to the Israeli side. On the Israeli side, you’ll see the impressive salt islands and The Dead Sea tree , whereas on the Jordanian side of the Dead Sea you’ll experience the black mud on the beach – known for its therapeutic and healing qualities.

The Dead Sea photography in Jordan

There are several resorts here on the Jordanian side of The Dead Sea, such as the Crowne Plaza, Ramada and Marriott where you can buy a day pass and visit their Dead Sea beach for a few hours even if you aren’t staying overnight as a guest.

The day pass gives you access to float in the sea and use the facilities, including the Dead Sea mud.

The Dead Sea photography in Jordan

Make sure to cover yourself in it before heading into the water to make your skin super soft! Relax and have the unique experience of floating in the water as you soak up the views.

The Dead Sea photography in Jordan

The Dead Sea is extremely salty so it’s very important to always stay on your back and don’t splash when you’re in the water. The water will sting your eyes so much, it will be incredibly painful. I even wore sunglasses in the water to make sure I wouldn’t get any splashes in my eyes.

Don’t shave for a couple of days beforehand (ouch), and you’ll also want to be careful if you have any cuts – otherwise it will really sting in the water!

After your dip, have some lunch – which is included in the price of your day pass, and then when you’re ready to leave, drive south towards Wadi Musa, the town next to the Ancient City of Petra.

You’ll stay parallel to the eastern shore of The Dead Sea for a while, where you’ll be able to see more of the salt formations along the edge of the sea.

The Dead Sea photography in Jordan

It is easy enough to pull over when you wish if you want to stop for a close look or take a photograph.

The Dead Sea photography in Jordan

The drive to Wadi Musa is around 3 hours, and you’ll stay overnight at a hotel here ready to be up bright and early in the morning to visit Petra. Make sure to pick a hotel in a location where you can walk to the entrance of Petra.

Optional: Petra By Night

If day 1 of your trip coincides with a Monday, Wednesday or Thursday and you arrive at your hotel before 8pm that evening, you can get the chance to explore Petra at night in a really atmospheric and magical way!

Petra by Night involves the ancient city being lit up with over 1800 candles laid on the ground.

Petra By Night costs 17 JD (it’s not included in The Jordan Pass or the regular Petra entrance fee) and it runs from 8.30pm until 10.30pm.

Tickets for Petra By Night cannot be purchased online. You can buy them from the Visitor Centre, local tour companies or your hotel in Wadi Musa. It does get quite busy, so it’s a good idea to arrive early.

The walk starts from the Visitors Centre, and runs 1.2 kilometres to the Treasury. You are led by guides, but the path is quite bumpy and uneven, so be careful when you are walking as it is really dark and easy to trip up.

It’s a good idea to bring your own flashlight or use your phone torch so you can see better! Also bring a jacket or something as it does get a bit chilly in the evening.

When you reach The Treasury there are hundreds of candles on the ground, and The Treasury is lit up in different colours.

You sit amongst the candles as the bedouins tell you stories and play you their local music. It sounds quite romantic, but in reality there are hundreds of tourists here and it is getting more and more popular!

Petra by night photography in Jordan instagrammable places visiting tips

It can be really hard to get a good photo here, firstly because of the low level of light, and secondly because of all the other people.

To try and get a picture without other people in you can either be amongst the first to rush there, or stay until the end once people start to leave.

Personally I think the latter one is better as you have time to sort out your camera and composition whilst you’re still waiting for people to leave.

At the beginning it will be very rushed and you’ll only have a couple of seconds before other people come into your shot (and that’s only if you’re the first to arrive in!).

Day 2: Petra

Wake up early and explore Jordan’s most famous tourist attraction: Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Explore the city on foot, where you’ll first walk through the Siq – a narrow gorge that leads to the Treasury.

the siq Petra photography Jordan instagrammable places

The Treasury is probably the most famous photo spot in Jordan so the best tip for visiting Petra is to get here early to escape the crowds.

Petra opens at 6am – try to get here as close to that as you can! By 9am, the tour groups arrive and it is very busy. If you arrive early, you’ll be able to get photos without other people in, as well as avoid the midday heat!

the treasury from above Petra Jordan visiting tips

After exploring The Treasury you can visit the viewpoint from above, as well as walk to The Monastery, another really impressive site at Petra.

The Monastery is several kilometres walk from The Treasury, but it is equally stunning and the vibe there is much more laid back as there are less people.

the monastery petra photography in Jordan

Petra is big so you’ll be walking a lot, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes. Bring water with you, as well as some cash if you want to buy any souvenirs or food here.

the treasury instagrammable places Petra visiting tips

You’ll spend the majority of the day exploring Petra, then when you’re ready to leave, make the 1.5 hour drive to Wadi Rum, also known as Valley of the Moon.

Here at Wadi Rum you can have an unforgettable desert experience and camp overnight in a traditional Bedouin Wadi Rum desert camp .

Note that rental cars are not allowed in the Wadi Rum Protected Area. If you hired a rental car, you will need to leave it at the Wadi Rum Visitor Centre and then take a 4×4 Jeep with a guide to your desert camp.

instagrammable places in Jordan wadi rum sun city desert camp

There are several desert camps here, ranging from basic to luxurious. You can choose to stay in the bedouin tents, or in a more luxurious bubble tent like we did!

instagrammable places in Jordan wadi rum sun city desert camp

Make sure to enjoy the sunset, then you’ll have a traditional Jordanian bedouin dinner, where the food is cooked underground and it tastes so good.

instagrammable places in Jordan wadi rum sun city desert camp

Sit and chat with the locals, or sit outside your tent and admire the stars. It can get quite cold here in the night time so bring some warm clothes!

Day 3: Wadi Rum & Aqaba

Wake up early as sunrise is the best time to see the stunning desert landscape of Wadi Rum!

desert wadi rum Jordan

Go on a sunrise camel ride in the morning, then go a 4×4 jeep tour to explore Wadi Rum’s unique rock formations and desert landscapes. Spots such as Lawrence’s Spring, the rock bridges and the Red Sand Dunes are great for taking photos.

camel ride sunrise wadi rum Jordan

In the afternoon, drive 1.5 hours to Aqaba – a lovely seaside town located in the south of Jordan. Stroll down the promenade, visit the Aqaba Fort, and if you’ve got time, go for some snorkelling or diving in the Red Sea – Aqaba is famous for this!

The Red Sea has really diverse marine life, such as turtles, dolphins, colourful fish and coral reef – plus the water is so clear!

In the evening, make the 4 hour drive from Aqaba back to Amman and check into your hotel for the night, ready for a day of exploring the capital city in the morning.

Day 4: Amman

Start your day in Amman by visiting the historic Citadel, located in the centre of Amman ontop of a hill.

Here you can explore ancient ruins – including the Temple of Hercules, the Byzantine Church and the Umayyyad Palace, as well as enjoy stunning panoramic views of the city.

amman citadel photography in Jordan

Then head to the Roman Theatre, another famous landmark in Amman.

All the main tourist attractions in Amman are in the centre of the city and within walking distance of each other.

Afterwards, explore the bustling streets of downtown Amman, known as Al-Balad, look around the markets, and enjoy some authentic Jordanian cuisine (try the Jordanian specialty mansaf if you haven’t already!) at a local restaurant before heading back to the airport.

And there we have it – the perfect 4 day itinerary for Jordan! Whilst there is so much more to Jordan, this is a great introduction to the country, and a way to see all the best bits in a short amount of time!

If you have more time in Jordan, be sure to check the the Baptism Site at the Jordan River, as well as Jerash and Wadi Mujib.

Jordan is such a stunning and unique country, and you’re sure to want to come back for more!

Our Clients & Testimonials

Jordan Horizons Tour Company is Awsome! "We want to let everyone know that this company's customer service is wonderful. We had booked a Tour to "Petra" during a cruise. Unfortunately due to Corona Virus closures our trip was cancelled at the last minute. We contacted JHT to let tell them of the cancellation and requested a refund. Working with Andrea and Mohamed made things move smoothly. Even though the company was overwhelmed with other cancellations we received a full refund in a timely manner. We will certainly use this company when we get our cruise rescheduled." Terry R., TripAdvsior
Excellent, honest company during virus crisis "for a private tour with guide to Petra. We were already in Dubai when USA requested citizens come home immediately or be quarantined in Europe. We were touring Middle East and ending in Amsterdam. Of course, plane tickets had to change and we returned home. JHT was so kind to return our deposit without our requesting. That is sign of excellent company. Andrea and staff helped us immensely plan our tour. Thanks again and we are planning for next year and definitely we will do a ditto of this years plan but with extra days! Thanks again and Inshallah next year!" MoghaniALABAMA, TripAdvsior.com
Holiday "We had an amazing trip! We felt relaxed a looked after. Thank you to our driver Romi Badarneh. He was not only a driver, he also took care of us, made us feel welcomed and happy. He did above and beyond to ensure that we are feeling comfortable. We would recommend to travel to Jordan with this company. Ask for Romi" Gitana, TripAdvisor.com
Wadi Rum-Petra-Amman-Dead sea "We were really excited with our choice to book the in land activities with Jordan Horizon Tours. We were a company from 5 friends from Greece and Romi the driver made our trip excellent. Romi made us feel safe through our road trip and he deserves special thanks. You have to choose him if you decide visit Jordan. His driving skills are great, we had interesting conversation through travelling and he find us exceptional traditional spots for shopping and to try Jordan traditional cuisine. Generally it is a high standard company and the can create your schedule as you wish. We met Wadi rum, Petra, Dead Sea and Amman in 3 days!!! Thank you very much! A must go experience!!" John (the_Locophysio), TripAdvsior.com
Perfect Tour "Thank you to Andrea at Classic Wadi Rum Tours for contracting Jordan Horizons Tour! Our border crossing from Eilat - Aqaba was very quick and easy with a guide. Our driver Faed was great - he took us to Wadi Rum, then Petra, then to Amman. Having a private driver/tour not only saved us time, but he got us quickly through checkpoints, ordered us food, bought us tickets, and connected us with local tour guides (in Wadi Rum & Petra). Kimd Ahlgren, Tripadvisor.com
Wonderful experience "Excellent arrangement of the trip, very professional and kind driver, high quality of the local guide in Petra (speaking surprisingly good Italian!) and of the lunch (delicious!). Absolutely wonderful jeep tour of the Wadi Rum with an amazing guide. Last but not least, great customer care from the booking via email to the absolutely wonderful before and after our trip, always careful and supportive. We will surely ask JHT to organise the trip. Highly recommended!!" Claudia R, TripAdvsior.com
Excellent experience! Would recommend to everyone. "Jordan Horizons set the bar high from the start. Their professionalism is unmatched. Andrea helped us to organize a custom tour for our short stay in Jordan (4 days) at the last minute because our cruise ended up getting cancelled. Hisham (our driver) met us at the airport and took care of us very well for our entire stay. He was super friendly and informative, provided us with water, coffee and tea throughout our journey. He took excellent photos of us, and pointed out views/monuments throughout our trip which helped us capture our valuable memories. Mymapstoexplore, TripAdvisor.com
Petra and Wadi Rum Private Tour from Aqaba Port "This was a day we looked forward to and the company, guide, and drivers did not let us down. We were a party of 4 and had planned a day to see both Petra and Wadi Rum. Making reservations online was very easy and the company was very responsive to all of my questions prior to scheduling the day long tour. We were met right as the instructions said at the port and met our driver Youssef who drove us to Petra. He was very good about telling us about his country and things we saw along the way. Mary L., TripAdvisor.com
Blown away by the hospitality and kindness of Jordanians "This trip has been very unique and exceeded our expectations in different ways. From vast landscapes to a narrow siqs, from beautiful sunsets to a beautiful night skies, from deep valleys to high mountains and from cities to a local Bedouin camps, everything was mesmerising. Both Hisham and Suleiman are our friends now and we are happy to have come across these two beautiful souls. Inshallah we will meet soon again." Ronald D., favthemes.com

Korn Ferry Tour

Jordan Spieth attends Korn Ferry Tour event, reflects on early days as pro

Change Text Size

Jordan Spieth attended a Korn Ferry Tour event as a fan Wednesday. Yes, that Jordan Spieth.

Spieth made an appearance at the Veritex Bank Championship in his home Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, visiting with friends who competed in the pro-am at Texas Rangers Golf Club. Spieth’s buddies played nine holes with Matt McCarty and nine holes with Jamie Lovemark (Spieth’s close friend Richie Sapp, a groomsman in Spieth’s wedding, is the event’s tournament director).

Spieth, a three-time major champion, spent a brief period on the Korn Ferry Tour in his formative years, and he’s keenly aware of the game’s fine line between glory and the grind. Wednesday offered a chance to remember those days, and to reminisce on the vast depth in professional golf.

“These guys, they’re grinding,” Spieth said Wednesday. “They’re sometimes playing seven, eight weeks in a row … and all of a sudden they go on a run and they’re Scotite Scheffler. It’s where it all comes from.”

(This depth was further exemplified Thursday, when 24-year-old Frankie Capan III carded an opening-round 58 at Texas Rangers Golf Club, which wasn’t even the Korn Ferry Tour’s low round of the year. Cristobal Del Solar shot an opening-round 57 at the Astara Golf Championship presented by Mastercard in February.)

Spieth’s magical 2013 season included back-to-back top-10 finishes at the Korn Ferry Tour's The Panama Championship (T7) and Astara Golf Championship presented by Mastercard (T4). He then faced a decision point: continue on the Korn Ferry Tour, or head to the PGA TOUR’s Puerto Rico Open, into which he had received a sponsor exemption.

Spieth headed to Puerto Rico and finished second to earn a spot in the Valspar Championship, where he finished seventh to earn Special Temporary Membership on TOUR. The rest was history – he won the John Deere Classic later that summer to activate full membership, represented the United States in the Presidents Cup that fall and proceeded to global golf superstardom.

That year included a stint on the Korn Ferry Tour, which resonates to this day. (So much so, that he intended to track the competition as it unfolded at Texas Rangers GC.)

“Since I’m off this week, it will be fun (after) seeing this place, meeting the couple guys, looking this week on the app and seeing how they’re doing," Spieth said Wednesday. "Hearing a couple of the stories … Matt (McCarty), I know he was close last year and he’s doing pretty well this year so far, kind of right on the bubble.”

The top 30 on the season-ending Korn Ferry Tour Points List will earn 2025 PGA TOUR membership, joining Spieth at the game’s highest level. He’ll know what it took to get there.

PGA TOUR Digital's Bret Clein contributed to this report.

Jordan spieth, will zalatoris highlight field for pga tour's 2024 cj cup byron nelson, share this article.

The PGA Tour is heading back to Texas.

The CJ Cup Byron Nelson is set to begin next week at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, outside of Dallas. The tournament, formerly sponsored by AT&T, is the third of four stops in the Lone Star State for the Tour in 2024, with the final being the Charles Schwab Challenge in May.

The title sponsor is new but golf fans should know this is the same tournament that was established in 1940 and not the continuation of the CJ Cup event that was previously staged in South Korea, Las Vegas and South Carolina. CJ has simply taken over title sponsorship of the long-running Byron Nelson event.

Dallas residents Jordan Spieth, Tom Kim and Will Zalatoris will be in the field, as will defending champion Jason Day, who shot 9-under 63 on Sunday a year ago to claim his first title in more than five years. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who was in the field last year, is not this year as he and wife Meredith await the birth of their first child.

Here’s a look at the full field for the 2024 CJ Cup Byson Nelson, which will have a field of 156, a total purse of $9.5 million and a first-place-prize of $1.71 million:

2024 NFL Draft: Florida State QB Jordan Travis expects Day 2 interest, could be Giants, Jets, Patriots target

Travis stands out as a post-round 1 option under center.

getty-travis-jordan-florida-state.jpg

A historic number of quarterbacks could be first-round picks in the 2024 NFL Draft , and if not for a senior-season injury, Florida State's Jordan Travis may have been part of the conversation , according to CBS Sports college football analyst Emory Hunt.

"He would've been able to take advantage of the College Football Playoffs like C.J. Stroud did (in 2023)," Hunt said, "the postseason all-star game circuit like Spencer Rattler has, and would've subsequently found himself" as a Day 1 target behind more celebrated prospects like Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye and J.J. McCarthy.

Now, two days before the start of the draft, Travis' camp at least anticipates a potential Day 2 selection. A source close to the situation tells CBS Sports the quarterback is preparing to hear his name called in the Rounds 3-5 range, with the hope of landing "in the right place where he can compete for the starting job once healthy."

The 23-year-old Travis, who was nearly a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2023, met with the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets for top-30 visits. But a slew of others are also believed to be logical landing spots, including the Atlanta Falcons , New England Patriots , New Orleans Saints , Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers . Several of those clubs have been strongly linked to first-round quarterback prospects, but some of them will inevitably be forced to address the position later in the draft.

On the field, Travis is nearing the end of rehabilitation from a leg fracture suffered in November of last year. He went 21-3 in his final two seasons at Florida State, throwing 44 touchdowns and just five interceptions. NFL Media's scouting report of the quarterback suggests teams could have concerns about his size (6-1, 200) and decision-making but should value his leadership, off-script athleticism and track record of improvement.

Taylor Swift Supports Travis Kelce's Chiefs After Draft, Approves Pick!

Sonny vaccaro says caitlin clark deserved michael jordan-esque nike deal, sonny vaccaro on caitlin clark's nike pact ... she deserved a jordan-esque deal.

Sonny Vaccaro says he believes Caitlin Clark could have gotten a much better deal from Nike -- telling TMZ Sports he's sure the former Iowa superstar could've inked a pact similar to the one Michael Jordan got back in the day.

The shoe industry legend, of course, knows all about the deal MJ received -- he was the one who helped negotiate it. And, when he heard Clark only received $28 million over eight years to be with Phil Knight 's co., he was surprised it wasn't more.

Vaccaro tells us she could've landed a contract that not only gave her more annual money -- but also allowed her to take a cut of every Clark-branded item sold ... just like Jordan got with his initial Swoosh agreement in 1984.

"She should have gotten a piece of everything," the 84-year-old said, "just like Michael Jordan."

Vaccaro believes there were plenty of people to blame -- everyone from Clark's reps ... to other shoe companies who dropped out of the race and allowed Nike to come in with what appeared to be on its face a company-friendly contract.

"I'm saying to you," he said, "they messed up. They should have held on to the last drop."

Clark, though, doesn't seem too disappointed ... $28 mil, after all, is a ton of coin -- especially considering she's only set to make $76,000 from her WNBA contract this season.

And, hey, she gets her own signature Nike shoe ... which we're sure she's thrilled about.
