Lonestar is an American country music group currently consisting of Michael Britt, Richie McDonald, Keech Rainwater and Dean Sams who formed in 1992.

The original line up of LoneStar can be traced back to two Texan bands, Texassee and Canyon. However in 1992 Texasee became Lonestar and continued to record and perform under that pseudonym for the rest of their career, they signed to BNA records in 1995 and the debut album came shortly after. The self titled released performed very well for a new band on the US Country Charts, peaking just outside the top ten as well as opening at #69 on the US charts.

Their reputation grew through the 90's, with the following two albums charting higher on the Country charts helped by the band's successes on the singles charts. 'No News' topped the US and Canadian charts in 1996, 'Come Crying To Me' was another chart topper in the States and the 1999 releases 'Smile' and 'Amazed' topped both charts once again. The latter was re-released in 2000 and went on to top the US Billboard singles chart, the band's only number one to date.

After their commercial success in the late 90's, the boys following albums charted at #1, #2 and #3 respectively on the Country Charts and 'I'm Already There' reached #9 on the US album charts, their highest position to date. They also scored another Country number one with a greatest hits collection in 2003 released by BNA Records which now holds a platinum selling certificate in the USA. The band continued to release music after their 'golden decade' which wasn't as commercially successful yet was still hugely popular with the quartet's loyal fan base.

Live reviews

Lonestar originate from Nashville and they have been going since 1992; a staggering twenty- two years of country music. ‘Smile’, ‘Amazed’, ‘Come Cryin’ To Me’ and ‘What About Now’ are some of Lonestar’s earlier number one hits. Within a few seconds of ‘Amazed’, Michael Britt (lead guitarist) was sweep picking and tapping on his guitar, which gave this song an edge, as I was in the crowd watching them live; Keech Rainwater (drummer) was slowly trembling the cymbals of the drums. The notes Dean Sam (keyboard) was playing blended perfectly. Then Richie McDonald (lead vocals) walked forward and the crowd screamed, as he started singing with his smooth, mid tempo voice. Every song rendered with sincere emotion at this acoustic concert.

Later, during this concert, the four guys were still on stage, sitting down as if it was an impromptu music concert in your own living room and I was blow away by the sheer professionalism of how they deliver their sound. Cool. Melodic. Sensuous and of it’s time.

Even though their music is country it’s also soulful, which drew me in because of the lyrics and the audience had a personal connection with them, including me. I felt I was attending my own personal concert, as it felt that they interacted and engaged with me through a visual connection. Whilst all that my arms were swaying slowly from side to side. It was a memorable experience. Their performance is so magical! You have to be there, the atmosphere, ambience, overall sensation is one not to be missed.

I was excited to see the show it had been many years since I have seen Lonestar. It was an amazing show the songs were great but the guys were very interactive with the audience which I love. They posed for all of the people taking selfie’s in front of the stage. And they even completely halted the entire show in order to take group photos with a couple of people in wheelchairs.

What an amazing night in an intimate venue.

First time seeing Lonestar do a whole show. Only seen festival sets before.

Superb gig - Dean came out after to meet the fans who were waiting and signed.

I can thoroughly recommend seeing this band if you get the chance - we will certainly book again.

Would be ‘amazing’ if they could come and play C2C in London.

Lonestar - absolutely amazing in concert. The vocals are excellent and everything I expected. I was very impressed at how they interacted with the crowd. They played a wide variety of songs from their albums plus a bonus lil rock at the end. The venue was a small one but I think it made the concert all that much better because it seemed more personal.

Lonestar was awesome. They are one of my favorite bands. Hope to use their song Amazed as one of my wedding songs for a second marriage if that ever happens. Toon my boyfriend who isn't a country fan but he said it was better then he excepted. Awesome again and hope you come back to Wisconsin soon.

The show was everything I thought it would be .

With Richie McDonald singing all of his classic songs.

It was however hard to hear Richie's voice over the instrumental, as the mixer could have cut back their volumes to better balance vocal to instrumental.

They continue to sound good and are wonderful entertainers. Their interaction with the audience is appreciated as well. Love their songs.

Thank you for providing reasonably priced entertainment.

LONESTAR Brings Holiday Show 'Christmas & Hits' to Eisemann Center

The performance is set for December 12.

Eisemann Center Presents continues the 2023-2024 Season with the award-winning band Lonestar in Christmas & Hits on Tuesday, December 12 at 7:30 pm in the Hill Performance Hall.

Tickets go on sale to the public Friday, October 13 at www.eisemanncenter.com or 972.744.4650.

Lonestar has amassed sales in excess of 10 million albums since their national launch in 1995 and achieved 10 #1 country hits including “No News,” “Come Crying to Me,” “I'm Already There,” “What About Now,” and their crossover smash “Amazed” (which was also #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, the first record since 1983's “Islands in the Stream,” to top both charts). The band's awards include 1996 ACM “Top New Vocal Group,” 1999 ACM “Single of The Year” for “Amazed” (the song also won “Song of the Year”), 2001 CMA “Vocal Group of the Year” and 2002 ACM “Top Vocal Group.” With an average of 80 dates worldwide per year, they are celebrating over 25 years together. In early 2021, Lonestar, one of country music's most celebrated groups, announced the addition of Brownwood, Texas native, and multi-award-winning, singer/songwriter Drew Womack as the group's lead singer. Dean Sams, Michael Britt, and Keech Rainwater, the remaining three principals of the ACM, CMA, and Billboard award-winning group are looking forward to continuing the next chapter of the band as they continue to record and tour nationally. On the recently released TEN to 1 record, the award-winning band Lonestar— Dean Sams (keyboards, acoustic guitar, background vocals), Michael Britt (lead guitarist, background vocals), Keech Rainwater (drums) and Drew Womack (lead vocals, guitar)—are taking a fresh look at all 10 of their chart-topping country songs. This streak started in 1996 with the band's second single, “No News,” which describes a man left bereft (and confused) when his girlfriend suddenly disappears, and the following year's tender “Come Cryin' to Me” and “Everything's Changed.” The band's quadruple-platinum 1999 album Lonely Grill spawned four No. 1 hits (including the beloved global smash “Amazed”) and established Lonestar as music's preeminent pop-country band—a status they'd maintain through the 2000s and beyond, thanks to songs full of energy and creative lyrics (“What About Now” and “Mr. Mom”), along with heartfelt messages and soaring melodies (“I'm Already There”). The changes to “Amazed,” meanwhile, reflect the power ballad's status as an exclamation mark during concerts. “Since it's usually the biggest part or finale of the show, we've made it a little bit more bombastic,” Britt says. “We didn't want to change it so much as just to make it more epic.” TEN to 1 reflects the ways Lonestar's hits have evolved over the years during the band's rousing, high-energy concerts.

Tickets are $62-$72 and are available for purchase online at www.eisemanncenter.com or by calling the Eisemann Center Ticket Office at 972.744.4650 starting Friday, October 13. Group discounts are available for 10 or more persons. Lobby and Ticket Office hours are 10 am – 6 pm Monday through Saturday and during all public events.

Lonestar Re-Record No. 1 Hits for Upcoming ‘Ten to 1′ Album

Lonestar celebrated their 30th anniversary as a band in 2022, and this year, they're looking back on their record-breaking career with a new album full of reimagined hits. The new project, Ten to 1, will feature re-recordings of their 10 No. 1 hits.

It will be released on June 2.

The songs on this project include the group's debut 1996 hit, "No News," as well as "Come Cryin’ to Me" (1997),  "Everything’s Changed" (1998), "Amazed" (1999), "Smile" (1999), "What About Now" (2000), "Tell Her" (2000), "I’m Already There" (2001), "My Front Porch Looking In" (2003) and "Mr. Mom" (2004).

Lonestar will release a new version of 11-week No. 1 "Amazed" as the lead single from the re-issued collection on March 1.

The new recordings will feature the lead vocals of Drew Womack, who took over the role after longtime lead vocalist Richie McDonald's departure in 2021. McDonald left to join the group Frontmen of Country with Tim Rushlow and Larry Stewart, and Womack joined from Sons of the Desert.

Longtime band members Dean Sams, Keech Rainwater and Michael Britt will also be featured on the project.

"We’ve been doing this for a very long time, and we’ve been super blessed in our 30 plus years together to have 22 top 10 singles and then have 10 of those go No. 1," says Sams. "We’ve adapted our sound so much over the years through playing live, we’ve started approaching songs a little bit differently and so we just thought we should put a version of who we are today out there with all 10 of our No. 1s."

"Most of these songs we’ve played for 25 years or so, and we know these songs like the back of our hand," Britt adds. "It was fun to be able to record songs that everybody knows and just put a different spin on them because we’ve changed them over time."

The group will also embark on their Ten to 1 tour in 2023, kicking off performances on Feb. 17 in Carlsbad, N.M., and running through Oct. 21 in Kissimmee, Fla. The band is set to headline the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville for the first time on March 3.

Lonestar's Ten to 1 Album Tracklist:

1. "No News" 2. "My Front Porch Looking In" 3. "Come Cryin' to Me" 4. "Amazed" 5. "Smile" 6. "What About Now" 7. "Tell Her" 8. "I’m Already There" 9. "Mr. Mom 10. "Everything’s Changed"

It’s a dream never fully dreamed come true for Electric Mud. The award-winning San Diego rock band, led by former U.S. Navy SEAL Marc Hansen, will perform as the opening act for the Rolling Stones’ May 7 Arizona concert at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, a suburb of Phoenix.

June 12, 2020

The announcement was made Thursday morning in a press release issued by the legendary English band’s New York representatives.

The concert at the 63,400-capacity Arizona stadium is one of 16 dates on the Stones’ 2024 North American Hackney Diamonds stadium tour. It opened Wednesday in Houston, concludes July 25 in Santa Clara, just outside San Francisco, and includes July 10 and 13 performances at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Nov. 21, 2023

“The biggest show we’ve ever done up until now was at San Diego’s House of Blues club,” Hansen told the Union-Tribune late last week. “This Arizona concert with the Stones came out of the blue.”

Out of the blue, perhaps. But not without some lobbying — and a fortuitous family connection — on the part of Electric Mud.

Three of the band’s four members — brothers Marc and Matty Hansen, and their cousin, bassist Matt Sorena — are the nephews of Patti Hansen and her husband, Rolling Stones guitarist and vocalist Keith Richards.

Marc Hansen credits Keith Richards for giving him his first guitar and first guitar lesson as a teenager, and for encouraging Electric Mud early on. The band was formed in Staten Island, N.Y. in 2008, then relocated to San Diego, after guitarist/singer Marc and his drummer brother Matty enlisted in the U.S. Navy and relocated to San Diego.

“I had sent our Aunt Patti an Electric Mud promotional package to give to the promoters of the Stones’ tour two years ago,” Hansen, 37, recalled.

“We hadn’t heard anything since then, so we all thought it was a shot in the dark. Then, just a few weeks ago, the promoters asked my aunt: ‘Hey, where are your nephews? We want them to open for the Stones.’ Then, they contacted us. They said Mick (Jagger) had a big hand in picking us — as he does with all the bands that open for the Stones — and told the promoters to give us a shot.”

The Hansen brothers and Sorena each released solo albums last year. But Electric Mud, whose fourth member is guitarist Colton Cori, has been largely inactive as a band since the COVID-19 pandemic began in early 2020.

Opening a stadium gig for the Stones is a singular reason to kick back into gear — and a potentially nerve-wracking one — since the opening acts at other dates on the Hackney Diamonds tour includes such established artists as Gary Clark, Jr., Widespread Panic, Tyler Childers and Lainey Wilson.

“I’d say we’re a lot more excited than nervous,” said Hansen, whose day job is as a civilian trainer for U.S. Navy SEALs. “We’ve never done anything this big, so there are a lot of extra details that go with it. I mean, we don’t even have a soundman!”

To get ready for their very big show in Arizona, Electric Mud will do some recordings sessions here this weekend. The band will then rehearse all of next week at a studio near the Pechanga Arena San Diego, a venue the Stones have performed in a number of times over the past half-century. Electric Mud’s goal is to hone a dozen or so of the band’s songs, then select the best six for their 30-minute opening set at State Farm Stadium.

If all goes according to plan, Electric Mud will do a free warm-up concert here in San Diego on May 5. (Updates will be posted on the band’s website at electricmudofficial.com/band .) Then, comes the May 6 drive with all their equipment to Arizona, and the big night on May 7.

“It will be the most awesome show we’ve ever done,” Hansen said. “And even if we never do anything else, we’ll have opened for the Stones, our favorite band and the greatest rock and roll band in the world. We will get on that stage and do the very best we can do. What really matters is that we crush that show.”

Your 48-hour tour guide of Moscow this winter!

lonestar band tour 2023

9 am – Visit the Red Square

Christmas market on Red Square

Christmas market on Red Square

The first thing that every tourist should do by default is visit the very heart of Moscow – it’s main and most beautiful (which ‘krasnaya’ actually meant in Old Russian) square!

There are several ways to explore it:

  • Take a selfie with Spasskaya Tower
  • Have a warm drink at the Christmas market (which lasts until mid-January)
  • Visit Lenin’s Mausoleum
  • Shop in the gorgeous adjacent GUM department store
  • Visit St. Basil’s Cathedral (and learn that it’s actually several churches under one roof).

11 am – It’s Kremlin time!

Inside the Moscow Kremlin

Inside the Moscow Kremlin

Entering the Kremlin is, actually, a bit of a quest, as it’s a presidential facility with no general access. You need to buy a ticket or, better still, book a guided tour. Inside the Kremlin’s walls, you will find ancient cathedrals, in which Russian tsars used to be crowned and buried, as well as explore the magnificent architecture of the Kremlin that reflects the rich history of the country. And, finally, you could also make a quick visit to the Moscow Kremlin Museums and admire artifacts from various Russian tsarist eras: carriages, thrones, crowns and the most incredible armory and jewelry.

For more information, visit the official website of the Kremlin . It’s open from 10 am to 5 pm (and it’s closed on Thursdays) in winter.

2 pm – Watch the changing of the Guard

The honor guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

The honor guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

A very spectacular (and free) thing to do is watch how the honor guard does their ceremonial change at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Eternal Flame, situated in Alexander Garden, right next to the Kremlin wall. Every hour, from 8 am to 8 pm, the 1st Company of the Kremlin (Presidential) Regiment performs this rather old and beautiful tradition. But, be warned, it's often overcrowded.

3 pm – Enjoy a green oasis just in the center

Florarium in Zaryadye

Florarium in Zaryadye

Just a few steps from the Red Square, you will find the fabulous Zaryadye park. Opened in 2017, it is designed by renowned American architect bureau ‘Diller Scofidio + Renfro’. You can walk among the very cozy botanical decorations and explore Russia’s climate zones, as each of them is represented in dedicated areas, complete with flora from those zones.

The floating bridge in Zaryadye Park

The floating bridge in Zaryadye Park

The park also has an underground museum, an “ice cave” and a 3D cinema, where you can take part in a virtual adventure – a flight over Moscow! However, the piece de resistance is a floating boomerang bridge over the Moskva River, one of the best places to take a selfie.

You can also grab a quick lunch or relax with a cup of coffee or tea in the park.

7 pm – Arrange a ballet night

The Bolshoi Theater

The Bolshoi Theater

Of course, the most fancy way to finish your day in Moscow would be to go to the ballet at the Bolshoi Theater (in a perfect world, to see ‘The Nutcracker’!). However, getting tickets to the Bolshoi is not an easy task and should be done well in advance of your visit.

But, don’t be upset if you don’t manage to get tickets to the Bolshoi. Moscow has dozens of other options to see a ballet (or opera). No less brilliant performances can be seen in the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theater or in The State Kremlin Palace (by the way, this is another way to get a quick glimpse inside the Kremlin!).

10:30 pm – Have a late dinner in a fancy restaurant

Dr Zhivago restaurant

Dr Zhivago restaurant

There are not so many other cities with such a big choice of restaurants in a range of tastes and styles. In 2021, the authoritative Michelin guide announced their pick of the best of Moscow’s restaurants. And here’s our guide to all the places with Russian cuisine for any budget. But, if you happen to be in the area of the Bolshoi or Nemirovich-Danchenko Theater, then ‘Dr. Zhivago’ would definitely be a nice option (and it’s open around the clock).

DAY 2

9 am – grab a moscow coffee.

Winter festivities mood in Moscow

Winter festivities mood in Moscow

Moscow is definitely a coffee city! You can find coffee shops on every corner and they all offer a huge range of drinks. Try a ‘raf’ coffee, a sweet, creamy drink that was created in Russia, or dare to pick one of the very unusual offers, like cheese coffee or a Soviet candy style one (check out our coffee guide here ).

10 am – Take a river cruise

Winter boating along the Moskva River

Winter boating along the Moskva River

Another exciting way to explore Moscow is to observe it from the water. Boats cruise along the Moskva River all year round. Most begin their route from the Hotel Ukraine, one of Stalin's ‘Seven Sister’ skyscrapers, and will bring you back to the same spot after passing the medieval Novodevichy Convent, Moscow State University and Luzhniki Stadium, the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour and giant monument to Peter the Great and many other sightseeings.

It’s always at optimum temperature inside the boat, which also has huge panoramic windows. Select boats also offer a full dining experience, so it is also a nice place to have breakfast or lunch.

If you are not a water person, then discover other, unusual sides of Moscow – pick one of the activities we’ve prepared for you here !

1 pm – Visit ‘Russia’ Expo and taste a bunch of Russian regional cuisines

Russia Expo at VDNKh

Russia Expo at VDNKh

Until April 2024, the Soviet-era VDNKh exhibition park is hosting the huge ‘Russia’ expo, with tons of activities and expositions devoted to Russia, its culture, science and nature. Check out our special guide on what to do there!

An entire ‘House of Russian Cuisine’ has been opened at the expo. You will find 15 food stands with flagship dishes from Kamchatka, Siberia, Karelia and other regions of Russia. Imagine trying a range of cuisines and dishes in one place without even having to travel anywhere, be it Altai pelmeni, Tula kalach or Caucasian pies! A perfect place to grab some lunch.

The VDNKh exhibition park is a great place to visit, in general! Its pavilions are the perfect example of Stalinit Empire style architecture and you can almost feel as if you’ve traveled back in time! You will also find several interesting museums in the park – devoted to space exploration, Russian history and even a ‘Special Purpose Garage’, which showcases the various vehicles used by the country’s leaders.

'Sun of Moscow' wheel

'Sun of Moscow' wheel

And, finally, you can ride Europe's tallest panoramic wheel – ‘Sun of Moscow’ – that will give you panoramic views of the city – from a height of 140 meters!

5 pm – Ice skate with view & mulled wine

Ice skating rink on Red Square (GUM department store on the background)

Ice skating rink on Red Square (GUM department store on the background)

Ice skating is one of the most popular and affordable activities in Moscow. There are several great ice skating rinks in picturesque locations that are open all winter long. One of the biggest rinks in Europe is also at the aforementioned VDNKh or you can visit the one in Gorky Park, another very popular Moscow spot, or the small, but fancy rink – right on Red Square!

All the parks offer ice skate rental, so the only things you need are warm clothes, a charged phone to record your memories and a good mood!  Moscow also gets dark at 4:30 pm in winter and hundreds of lights are switched on, turning the city into a giant fairy tale!

A mulled wine with a view

A mulled wine with a view

And, if you are not a sports person, we’ve picked several other unusual activities that you could do in Moscow instead. For example, did you know that there is an entire district of dacha (countryside) houses, just 10 minutes from the center, surrounded by giant new highrises? How about taking a stroll there and feeling the early Soviet atmosphere?

8 pm – Warm up & laugh out loud

After all these outdoor activities, what could be better than a warm cozy bar with a hot drink and nice company? Moscow is a city full of entertainment for all tastes. So, if you know the Russian language or want to practice it, go to a theater or catch a stand-up comedy show. Moscow even has comedy shows in English, where you can hear both Russians speaking fluent English or foreigners (including Brits and Americans) who live in Russia speaking in broken or heavily-accented Russian (Check their show dates on the ‘ Moscow English Comedy ’ Telegram channel)!

11 pm – Finish by partying the night away!

Propaganda club in Moscow

Propaganda club in Moscow

Moscow never sleeps, as you might have heard. Which means there are plenty of bars and nightclubs where you can have a drink (or two or three; be sure to check out how Russians make Black Russian and White Russian cocktails) and chat with incredibly different people. Have fun and don’t miss your flight (or miss it and stay longer in the best city in the world!)!

That's it! See you soon in Moscow
