The PortPort was constructed to export coffee, grown extensively in Karnataka and the Western Ghats regions due to its good soil and climatic conditions. The port is under India’s Ministry of Shipping and has been accorded with Navratna status by the Department of Public Enterprises. The port is governed by a Board of Trustees having the chairman and 12 trustees nominated from various fields.

Kudroli Gokarnath Temple

This temple was built for the Bilava community, who weren’t allowed to enter any temples back then. The temple has Lord Shiva as the deity and is famous for its beautifully designed interiors. The temple spans several acres and is a famous site for all pilgrims to offer their prayers daily. The temple takes roughly 13 minutes to reach via road and is about five km away from the city. 

St. Aloysius Chapel

It is a catholic church set on the lighthouse hill. The church has many wall paintings painted back in the 15 th century and is very serene. The church environment offers solace to all troubled minds. The view of the Arabian sea from the church’s campus is also a picturesque site. The church can be reached via road in about 16 minutes from the city. 

Kadri Manjunatha Temple

This temple is built in Vijaynagri style at the base of the Kadri hills. The temple is surrounded by caves that have paintings that can be dated back to prehistoric times. Buddhist pilgrims initially used the temple, but as Buddhism declined, the temple was renovated multiple times and came to become a Shiva temple. Many pilgrims visit this temple every day.
